Not fancy, food comes up from the basement kitchen in aluminum takeout containers. But the eggs were cooked as I liked. The potato’s were great and it’s all vegetarian the all the time special is $6.50 (pictured, eggs, home fries and toast plus coffee or tea). Cheap for Manhattan. Hot chocolate comes unsweetened which is good for me because it’s usually way to sweet for me. Sugar in the raw is available. I’m coming back.
I was traveling through the area as a tourist and I was hungry. This place has very sweet staff and lots of delicious and healthy options. They also have organic homemade cookies that are kind of healthy and taste amazing. I definitely recommend this quaint little cafe. Especially for vegans
We thought it was fine but we’re not amazed with it for dinner. The kale salad was totally fine but not great. My son got the crusted seitan plate which said it came with mashed potatoes but it was a mashed sweet potato which didn’t really go with the other food. I think it is a food fast food vegan place but for dinner not as impressive. Our friends really like the fake eggs so also maybe better for breakfast. We found it fine but not amazing.
Old school ovolacto vegetarian and vegan food. Simple and very inexpensive. I reduced 1 star because all of the service ware is disposable. I realize it may be hard for them to wash plates as it is very small, but not my favorite. If the food was more expensive it would have been a 3 or 4 if they had reusable serviceware. Good stop for a simple breakfast/lunch.
I’m a little bit addicted. The mushroom burger and the cheddar burger are so delicious. They have gluten free buns or bread available (not sure it’s 100% vegan). The muffins are gluten free and vegan, as well as the oat flour cookies. The smoothies are delicious. The guy who’s usually there is really nice. He’s always so friendly and helpful, that’s how customer service should be everywhere! It’s really difficult not to go here every time I’m in the UES!
They should -Absolutely change the name of this store .I walked in to order a cup of coffee guess what, it tastes like it’s 12 hours old or more. The inside the store is pretty shady dark, and the front door needs to be fixed .Coffee should taste and smell like coffee no matter what time of the day or night. No one was sitting outside obviously it’s not worth it..Please understand that food business is though and we need honest and professional people. Also you get a B GRADE !!A veteran in food industry..
Nice little place offering vegan meals! My boyfriend and I were pleased with our meals, as they were both very tasty. That being said, we did feel it being a little pricey as everything totaled to $36 (including 1 donut and 1 small smart water).Despite this I think I would return because the sandwich I had there was one of the best vegan ones I have had!
Inhouse Host-Justin, alone, is worth the trip. Very polite, very professional and very considerate when it comes to above and beyond service one comes to expect frequenting a grub hub. There at Green Bean they sure do a lot with little. Please support them as they look to expand. The food is already with a taste, I highly recommend the Portobello Burger with chipotle mayo and avocado slices (delish) and usually I present some snapshots but some things are just too good to postpone the bite further. See you guys at Green Bean soon, and cant wait till to see the next level.
The most nourishing breakfast I have found on the upper east side. And their lunch looks amazing too. If your looking for organic balanced meals, look no further. The staff was very sweet too. The space is definitely tight but I didn’t care. So grateful to have found this place.
Although NYC has juice and smoothie spots on almost every corner, its actually surprisingly hard to find a really good spot. Ive tried just about all the ones in the UES and found Green Bean Café to be the best, and after finding out their smoothies were good, I decided to try their food and have not been disappointed yet. Overall, the smoothies here are so good that I could exclusively go here for my smoothie fix for as long as I live in the UES, the food is healthy, well-priced, and feels home-cooked, and, on top of that, the staff are always friendly and welcoming. Everything about this place gives me warm, home-y vibes—a rarity in NYC.
My Family just got done eating here for breakfast and it was fantastic. Great variety of options for vegans and most importantly, very friendly staff! I would highly recommend this cafe to anyone looking for a vegan cafe option that is relaxing yet delicious. Next time im in NYC I will be back.
Best on the go breakfast deal in the city! Try the breakfast wrap. I did the tofu wrap under $6- whole wheat wrap filled with lots of tofu, some bell peppers, vegan cheese, and potatoes. There’s another wrap with scrambled eggs. The staff is super friendly and they offer a lot of lunch choices and vegan desserts.
Cute and cozy with friendly staff, but in need of some management training. I got a friendly greeting and then sat waiting for a menu. I got up to get one, then sat and waited for my order to be taken. Apparently they serve a lot of regulars who know the system. As today is the coldest day of the year, I really wanted some soup, but there was none on the menu. Halfway through my meal I saw a customer with some soup; she told me the soup is written on a mirror that is not visible from the dining area (is it a secret)? The food was reasonably priced, fresh and healthy, but rather bland. Also, everything is served with disposable containers and utensils. Id expect a vegan restaurant to be a bit more eco-conscious. Now that I know the system, I might try it again if Im in the neighborhood. Id give it 2.5 stars.
Let me start off by saying: if you dont try the Green Bean Cafe—youre missing out.1) I love this place.2) The food is organic, and the drinks (smoothies, lemon juice, almond milk, health juices) are spectacular.3) The prices are (unbelievably) reasonable ranging from $4.75 to $8.75 for dinner/lunch. Any other organic place Ive been to here in NYC has been at least double that.4) The staff is welcoming and helpful. The owner often is there and will welcome you with a smile.5) No credit card minimum (from what I can tell) which is convenient since I rarely have cash on me.Im not a vegetarian or vegan, but this place is great because I can hardly tell the meat is fake in many of the dishes. The Cattle Ranch is practically a burrito, and if you gave it to a friend who didnt know the wrap is vegetarian, they would most likely ask for another two or three. The vegan vegetable grill sandwich has eggplant, bell pepper, zucchini, etc., and I may have dreamed about it at night. The organic Tofu Vegetable stew, Spicy avocado wrap, Vegan sesame nugget, and the many other dishes they have are all excellent and worth trying. Many people come here for the smoothies and juices. I generally only get food, but the few times Ive had their drinks, I leave satisfied. Anyone, Ive taken here, also loves the place. Therefore, stop in. Its casual, and a great place to become a regular.
Weird service and bad coffee. You ask if they have drip coffee available and they say yes. But then after you pay, they say they need to brew it so you have to wait. Then they say they don’t take credit card for small purchases (understandable), but then they change your $20 bill in nickels and singles because they are “out of quarters and large bills”. After waiting, I was really hoping to be able say the coffee tasted good, but it didn’t. At least it wasn’t quite the worst I’ve ever had.
I used to come all the time, it had been awhile and I was excited to have a nice smoothie.I had 3 loyalty cards because I would sometimes forget to bring it. The clerk told me they cant combine them. That I need to fill up one card and theyre very strict about it.I got the smoothie and it tasted super crappy (passive aggression?) and was much, much smaller than I expected. I get fancy smoothies from FreeFoods in Midtown, and they blow my mind. I literally threw this one (and 10$) away. Better that than suffer through it.
When i saw this listing had vegan options i was so excited! Unfortunately, my experience was terrible. The woman who initially took down my order for delivery (although friendly) misinformed me of their options. She did not place my order correctly. I had ordered a vegan cheddar burger and sweet potato fires. When my order arrived it was the Portobello mushroom burger and the fries were home fries. When i called (this is where the experience went horrible) i spoke with a gentleman who was very rude and tried to rush me off the phone. I tried to explain that i was not informed you did not have sweet potato fries and i had known initially i would not have ordered the potatoes. He kept insisting they did not have sweet potato fries. After several attempts to have him understand id just like a reimbursement for the potatoes he proceeded to tell me to come in and drop them off. I asked if the delivery guy could come and pick it up and he said no he was on break. If i wanted a refund i had to come in myself and get it. I have never experienced a business asking me to come in for a reimbursement when the error was made on their end. The burger was good honestly but their customer service needs major improvement. I am highly disappointed. I WILL NOT BE ORDERING AGAIN.
Im a health freak so when I stumbled upon this gem I was super excited! This place is really tiny but they have really delicious food, smoothies and juices. The service was really good! The blonde girl behind the counter (didnt catch her name) made the santa barbara juice for me which was super good!!! She was super friendly and gave me great service. Really great place! Check it out.
Excellent food. I’m also vegan and this is one of the only places that’s vegan around my home. I moved here from the Bronx and needed vegan restaurants, this place was open so I decided to walk in and I found out they have a lot of good food. The Bronx needs a place like this.
Foods are fine, but when one of the stuff members were rude to Grubhub delivery guy and that really hurt me. It was almost 100° hot outside, that delivery guy was waiting inside like a normal customer to pick up. But these stuff members told him to outside and wait there. Omg That poot guy looked so sad walked out. And he came back about 15 mins later. That same guy said in a rude way MAN, U dont see that we are busy, we will let you know when its ready, now go out and wait. Those employees are disgusting people and i hate this place and not come anymore.
Pros-Great smoothiesBreakfast scramble wrap is amazingPortobello mushroom burger is greatCozy atmosphereGood variety on the menuBreakfast special (vegan option available)Cashiers helped bring over utensils and clean up tableCons-Slightly tight seating arrangement if you have more than 2 people (but didnt mind much!)Some of the fried dinner plates are a little greasy
Sub par vegan treats. I ordered a breakfast wrap and really expected it to be cooked fresh in the case but it was pre made.I also ordered a shot of wheatgrass and was disappointed that the works [ cayenne pepper, ginger and a slice of orange] werent included with the shot. And when i asked for the ginger she told me a dollar extra and i said its not a lot of ginger you would be adding to a 1 oz wheatgrass shot and she goes its cause its organic. ARe you effin kidding me .... i have brought several pieces of organic ginger for less than a dollar.I will never come back here. The prices are expensive and the service was sub-par.
Do not support this business. This happened several months ago; a man who works here was taking photos of me - a young woman in her 20s - while I was bending down locking my bike to the bike rack outside this place. I confronted him and he walked away from me. I took photos of him as he walked away. I then went inside and told the one of the owners what he had done. The owner LIED TO MY FACE and said that he didnt know who it was and told me to check other places around the area. I went on a wild goose chase trying to find where this man worked based off of what the owner said. Ive since seen the man who was taking photos of me working here on several occasions. Dont give money to an establishment that allows its male workers to violate women WHILE AT WORK. RIGHT OUTSIDE OF THE STORE.
I was excited to try this place since it is right around the corner from my apartment. The service was terrible, the man who works there was just so apathetic and rude. The Large is a normal size and it is way too expensive. Sad to say I wont be going back. Bad service and expensive, not a good combo

2022-08-18100% Organic ingredients. They used apple concentrates for my smoothie and made it a bit sweeter than I normally would appreciate but definitely healthy choice for breakfast. Later they explained to me about alternative options to use almond milk. They were willing to make another one at no additional cost and I said its okay. Great manner and service. I will visit here more often.

2022-03-23I ordered food from Green Bean Cafe for the first time about two months ago, and Ive been addicted ever since. I probably get lunch from Green Bean 2-3 times a week now — and Im not even a vegetarian (though my vegan uncle also loves it now)! Im a particular fan of their cheddar burger and blueberry muffin. While I usually get their food delivered, I have enjoyed sitting in the cafe on occasion, especially since it has strong wifi for customers to use.

2022-06-15A gem of a neighborhood, organic café! Owner Ryan and Manager Justin have fostered a warm and welcoming environment in this charming little spot. The new addition to the team, Andrea, lends her own ray of sunshine. The service is always extremely attentive and respectful. And, oh yes, the food. . .its delicious! As are the smoothies and juices! We especially love the Organic Tempeh BLT and the Sweet Barbara Green. We make a point of coming by every day for a relaxing and satisfying break.

2022-05-11Absolutely amazing service, great prices ($6’.50 for a tofu scramble, home fries, and a tea or coffee!?!?-all day every day), small intimate vibe. Really can’t say enough positive things about the experience. Check it out, you won’t be disappointed.

2021-06-11Had quick vegan brunch. My egg sandwiches came with salad on a side. Taste good and a little bit pricey.
