Green Mountain offers seamless changes from traditional ConEd power sources to green local energy. I feel good knowing my energy comes from sustainable sources and the price difference is frankly negligible. Switching to Green Mountain was easy and I have nothing but respect for their mission 👍
The services are good but when its a time to refund they said NO. I spoke to one of the agent online before discontinuing the services and she said it will be automatically credited to the account after the final bill payment. I said okay and when the services were dsicontinued and spoke to another agent they said its not possible. I mean what the hack! You should have told me earlier. It was not said while enrollment neither before discontinuing the services.Careless agent with no professionalism, no honesty.
I have had many companies knock on my door, talking about how their service its so great and just want me to sign up cause my bill is too high. It is truly annoying. But I felt a lot better when making the decision to switch to Green Mountain because the representative didnt pressure me to do anything. They explain what it is all about and how I could be receiving natural energy without paying a cent extra. Also I felt at ease because they were in a location a lot of people know about (i.e Best Buy).Great business strategy, great representation of company, great service to people. Thanks!
Im pretty happy with everything about Green Mountain Energy. My only criticism is that I need to call them every three months to renew my Gas supply in order to maintain a competitive price point, otherwise the costs skyrocket. Its not that critical of an issue; I would just prefer to not need to worry about it and always have the cost be at a competitive price point. Regardless, I consider the minor inconvenience worth it to offset carbon emissions.
As a current Senior Sales Agent at Green Mountain Energy, it is disappointing to see such bad reviews. Here are two points I want to make VERY public before I say anything else:1. Green Mountain Energy (at least in NY) has not gone door-to-door for quite some time. So if we’ve come “knocking at your door”, it probably wasn’t us.2. If an agent from Green Mountain Energy promises you savings...she/he should be fired. My team, including myself, are always upfront and honest about our products. Green Mountain Energy is NOT here to save you money. In fact...our rate per kilowatt hour (kWh) is typically about 1 cent higher than the default supplier. Check with the agent signing you up because our rates vary from utility-to-utility, but we tend to be about a penny higher per kWh.The reason that our customers pay a premium for 100% pollution-free energy is because each household that signs up with us helps offset over 13,000 lbs of CO2 from going into the air EVERY YEAR they are with us. By choosing Green Mountain Energy on your electric bill, you are exercising your right to tell your utility company where you want your money to go. Renewables vs coal, oil, natural gases, fossil fuels, etc. By “voting with your dollar”, you can reduce your carbon footprint all while supporting local farm markets, street fairs, festivals, storefronts, and much more. Take 1 and a half minutes out of your day to talk to an agent out in the field. You might be pleasantly surprised with our information if you’re someone who’s looking to support a “greener” lifestyle.
Very dodgy company. Was convinced to sign up by a salesman at Best Buy - given the pitch that it was saving the environment etc. Salesman did not explain that it was a minimum contract of 12 months and that there is a very large early cancellation fee. Terms & Conditions state you can cancel within three days without penalties & that they will not set up as your supplier within those three days. So I called them the next day and the customer service rep agreed to cancel my service. She told me I would still get emails saying the service was being signed up but to ignore them as theyre automated. Realizing I needed proof I had cancelled within three days to avoid fees I asked her for them to send me an email confirming the service is cancelled. At this point she became very tetchy and said that they would send an email in three days. Finding this dubious I called Con Ed and was told theyd already signed me up. I asked Con Ed to cancel and put a block on my account. Sent Green Mountain several emails asking for confirmation and never got it (theyve ignored all requests for anything in writing). Im pretty sure if I hadnt called Con Ed I would be paying a large fee now. Avoid dealing with this company. Also if you read the 5 star reviews on this company a lot of them are from employees. So even the low rating they have here is largely inflated. (Also unethical. Youre not supposed to rate the services of company you work at. Unfortunately even if you report this reviews to Google Maps they dont seem to remove them, so I guess this rating inflation will persist.)
They owe me a refund for 25 dollars a month for the past five years!!! They charged me 800 this month on my con Edison bill.- do not be scammed. I just realized I’ve been charged an extra 25 dollars a month my con Ed bill for the past five years. My bill was 800 this month. If they don’t refund me for the entire five years I am calling the public service commission on them. I will go the public service commission- scam artists I spoke to Green Mountain energy today after having the service for almost 6 years I got $200 refunded to me I plan on taking serious action
I signed up last August, 2017. When speaking to a customer service rep at my electric company I found out I was paying about $25.00 a month more than if I had never chosen Green Mountain. When signing up I was told I might not save money and it could cost a bit more or less per month, but I was willing to pay in the neighborhood of $5.00 more to support renewable power sources. That’s what the salesman assured me it might cost. I just got an EV, and my town is planning on becoming a municipal supplier, so I canceled this account. You harm the transition to renewables by lying about the cost of your plan.
DONT DO IT!! I was told my bill would be about $5 a month more having them as my supply company, and it was great for the environment. Ok fine. I’ve been with them over 3 years and hadn’t paid much attention until my bills were getting unusually high. I contact coned and they ask me if I’m aware of how high my charges are from Green Mountain. She goes over the numbers with me and I’m shocked. I call up Green Mountain and cancel. I think everything is fine until I get my Feb bill. February. You know, the month when you use like almost no electricity? My bill is almost $160, higher than any month in summer!! I call them and basically find out that since after 3 months of me signing up my “trial period” or whatever ended and now my rate is VARIABLE. I.e. we charge you whatever we feel like. Read that again. So my coned bill this month is $80 and my Green mountain surcharge is $76!! I have literally been throwing money away with this company for 3 years but now that I cancelled they just magically increased my “VARIABLE” rate up to whatever they felt like to squeeze the last of my money out of me. I feel like an idiot for every trusting this company and can’t believe I can say how relieved I am to just being a coned customer. BUYER BEWARE. Oh and I also never once received any paperwork, contract or otherwise stating these things. Just some college kid on a street corner with a clipboard probably unknowingly lying to me. F this company.
So far so good! Glad to have met Seth Clayton outside of the health food store so he could tell me about how I could be part of the green community. Communication from Green Mountain in reference to my future bills, and how my decision makes a huge impact on the earth is very rewarding. I have been suggesting this program to my friends and family.
Very deceptive signing up Practices.A representative at a local store got us to sign up about 2 years ago. NOT ONE TIME did she mention I was signing up for a 3 month contract. BUT if you dont call to continue the contract, the rates go up and you are Month to Month. Our rates actually DOUBLED. When I called, I asked why didnt Green mountain notify me I wasnt on contract. We dont do that sir. So now I have paid DOUBLE in Electric in gas for about 2 years. No email, no call and no letter. Great customer service....
I have been a member of Green Mountain Energy for over a year and it has been some of the worst billing services I have ever dealt with. We will go months on months (6 months) without getting billed then slapped with a random huge bill (hundreds and hundreds of dollars). I have tried asking ConEd (who provides the electricity to us through Green Mountain) and they said it is totally up to when Green Mountain bills us. It is absurd to me that any vendor would bill randomly and then expect someone to pay the months worth of services right away. Very unprofessional and overall very hard to deal with.
Complete SCAM. I signed on to a pricing agreement for 4.9 cents a kilowatt. I was led to believe by the sales guy that my electric bill to go down by about 2/3. After getting my first bill, I found out this 4.9 cents was only the electricity supply, it did not include the delivery or supply charge that I was led to believe were included. It actually made my bill go up by about $20 from what it would have been because the previous bill cost per kilowatt was 3.9 cents. I called to cancel but I am stuck enrolled in this until the end of the next billing cycle. It is a complete scam!
I give no star if I could. Stay away from this company. I just cancelled their service. I met a salesperson in the Music festival last August and was told the 12 months fixed rate is $0.074 per KWH, so signed the contract but I didnt read the contract very carefully, and I didnt pay attention on my PPL electric bill because I set up for auto pay. A year past, I logged in to PPL online account to shop for another supplier, what a surprise !! When I check my paying history and billing. Green Mountain Energy raise the prices 4 times during a year, from $0.074 per KWH to $0.15 per KWH. Ive been paying double payment for 6 months. now I am setting up a price raise alert on my account. My bad, didnt read their contract very careful. I was tricked by the salesman to believe that I signed a year contract. It was a month by month contract. Enclosed a paragraph from their contract below, how greed !You’ll receive a variable supply price of $0.07400 per kWh. We will determine the variable supply price in our discretion based on many different factors, which may include competitive prices, industry charges we are responsible for, applicable state and local taxes, profit margins, or other business conditions, and you’ll see it listed on your monthly bill. Your variable supply price may change monthly, but no matter what, we will not increase your variable price in any given month by more than 30% from the prior month’s supply price.
I have been a Green Mountain Energy customer for a while and just renewed when I was at the Phila Flower Show. The agent was really nice and I got a nice thank you gift. It is great they support such a fantastic event. I even learned they donate solar panels to non profits like the PA Horticultural Society. They make it so easy for me to support 100% renewable energy at a very affordable cost.
Do not fall for this. I’m guilty of not reviewing my bill and setting up autopay.I was approached 2 years ago and was told switching is good for the environment and will save money. Well, apparently there is a fixed rate for 3 months and then it’s variable. I’ve been billed an extra $2400 over 2 years by using this service. When I called to complain i was told “it’s doesn’t matter what our sales people say and it’s not a scam because it’s written in the contract...” a contract they rush through via an iPad while you’re shopping at a Best Buy.When you attempt to cancel you’re informed it can take an additional 2 months for it to remove from your bill.Terrible sales approach. Terrible company.
Have used them for a little under year .The rates were as promised and the change in our electricity bill from before we switched was negligible at worst. Price becomes variable after a year when I plan to call in and get it fixed again or price check with other green energy providers. Just be sure to read what youre signing up for and you should be fine
Enrollment was easy. I know, however, that Green Mountain Energys business consists only of buying RECs, which is not as effective as buying renewable energy directly. I only switched to GME because at least Im not purchasing fossil fuel energy. When another option comes along that is not too expensive and allows me to purchase renewable energy directly, I plan to leave Green Mountain.
We signed up at the Carnegie Science Center, and the switch-over was really seamless and hassle-free. Our first bill shows the change to Green Mountain Energy, with an increase in per kWh cost, but very worthwhile, considering the positive green impact. Green Mountain Energy also send out periodic email communications to help the customer understand why them.
If I could post a zero star review I would. For anybody who is considering using this company as an energy supply company - dont walk, RUN away! Because of a billing error on their end (or Con-eds billing error, they keep blaming each other) I am being charged an additional $475! They have done absolutely nothing to remedy this! When they said they can provide the invoices showing that they sent them to Con-ed on time and that the mistake is Con-edisons mistake, I waited for weeks upon weeks for these mythical invoices which were never sent. All-in-all - Criminal energy supply company. Im being punished for trying to do good by the environment. STAY AWAY FROM GREEN MOUNTAIN ENERGY!
Im anxious to see my first bill due in early February. In the past my electric bills have been 25% usage and 75% delivery. GME has promised to eliminate all electricity delivery charges from National Grid. We, my neighbors and me, are waiting for the results and, if true, they all plan to sign on.
I signed up for Green Mountain Energy a little over two years ago, and have stayed a happy customer. Even now that my electric bill is not in my control, my roommate was sure to sign us up. I’ve read through some of these reviews about rate issues and I simply don’t know how some of the claims are possible. There’s clearly a misunderstanding or mistake, or a difference due to location. I’ve been happy with my rates, and now my roommate and I take advantage of the fixed rate option. It’s great to budget abd help the planet all at once.
This company is run like a scam. When rates kept increasing faster and steeper then normal, I reached out the Green Mountain to inform them I was not longer interested in their services. They gave me the run-around, making a process which should have been speedy, very frustrating and time consuming. I would not recommend engaging in this company. My experience lead me to question how ‘green’ the company actually is....feel free to google the background of the company and who the owners are.
Id give negative stars if I could. I will tell everyone I ever meet to beware of your horrible company, forever attempting to tarnish the most likely terrible name you have due to you unethical practices.I hope everyone in green mountain energy gets laid off.Through your poor and business/recruitment practices, through your lies you tell to get uneducated consumers to sign up for your services, I was charged an EXCESSIVE amount for power.I hope you all lose your jobs and learn what its like to struggle with irrationally high charges.I was approached in a movie theater, promising that you were a subsidiary of CON ED and that my bills wouldnt fluctuate.Since signing up for your services I have been upcharged 200% on monthly bills.
Scam! There is no transparency on your bill will be calculated just know you will get an inflated bill immediately. And if you need to cancel their contract says that if want you can you can cancel within 3 days of signing the contract but they take their own sweet time to respond any such request. The moment you sign a 1 pager they send you a whole big legal document in email for as an acceptance to entire contract with tons of clauses you never saw before. Run if you se them!!
Im really glad I switched over to GME! I have experienced no disruption to my service, no change in my utility costs, and it makes me feel so much better knowing that my energy is coming from a cleaner source. If you havent already, I highly suggest switching to GME! It will cost you nothing and youll be helping to save the planet.
Very dishonest company that will run your rate up as soon as they can. I was told that I would save money through Green Mountain Energy, as many others were told. When I just recently looked at my bill, I noticed that their rate was more than TWICE the rate in cents/KWH than BGEs standard rate. When I called to ask about the rate increase, I was told that it was because I was on a variable rate program, but I have been charged the same ridiculously high rate for more than half a year. Do not sign up with this company thinking that you will be benefiting the earth or your monthly bill. You are only helping the people at Green Mountain Energy to make more money.
I would give them 0 stars. They charged me $450 extra!!! And to cancel they up your bill even though they tell you in advance that there is no fee for cancellation. How did my bill go from $450 to $650 in less than a monthSo frustrating. Their explanation “oh well if you call us we lower your bill” so i have to call you to lower my bill as oppose to trusting that you are taking care of your loyal customers. Disgrace
Do not fall for this. My roommate and I were going to the movies, stopped by a very kind lady saying to go green and you can sign up for free with con Ed. We thought eh why not? We wanna be greener....Bad move. They don’t mention that you have to cancel within 3 if you don’t want it to be on your account. After our movie I looked up reviews and saw others (like myself now) speaking on how much of a rip off this is. I then thought you know what, let me cancel it, I’ll research more and decide if we wanna switch back. I sent two emails, but I knew they probably wouldn’t get back to me in the 3 day period (almost 5 days later and they still haven’t). So I called. It took me a full hour of calling 5 different numbers they had and being on hold to finally speak with someone. When I asked to cancel she tried to talk me out of it but I again stated we joined on a whim, and would like to do more research, then if we feel, we’d switch back. She gave me a cancelled code (mind you I had to ask her to read it back because she said it so fast I couldn’t understand her, literally almost like she didn’t want me to hear it), and I asked for a confirmation email stating it was cancelled and she said “I gave you a code, that’s all you need” I’m like okay. Two days later, I get an email from con ed saying we switched the green mountain even though I canceled, at least thought I did. Called Con Ed and they said it was still pending on my account and was going to take effect in a few weeks. That’s the other thing they don’t mention, even if you ‘cancel’ it’ll still go through, luckily the man I spoke to from con Ed was very nice and was able to remove it from my account for me. Long story short, don’t fall for these people saying “here’s a free $5 gift card!!! Join us!!” Without doing your research first. (And to be honest, the only reason I stopped for her in the first place was because I thought she was checking our tickets lol) If something seems to good to be true, it most likely is. Would’ve gave it a chance if it wasn’t for the terrible customer service and making it impossible to cancel or speak to anyone. Wish I could give 0 stars.
Signed up with my girlfriend a year ago and we have loved it ever since. It’s nice to know that we are getting our electricity from renewable resources and we are not really paying that much more. The bill was a little confusing at first (makes it seem like you’re paying a lot more per month). But after talking to a representative, I learned that it’s about the same as what I was paying with just con-Ed. But when you read into it, GME really only took up 1/3 of the bill and the rest was delivery fees from Con Ed. It was confusing at first because it appeared to be a new charge, but now that I know it’s pretty much the same cost and I’m doing something to help the environment I feel good about it. I recommend the company, despite some of the bad reviews. Be a good consumer and learn the details about your plan and what your bill will look like, so you’re not shocked.
There really should be a zero star option for reviews. I called Green Mountain Energy to cancel my service with them over 4 months ago and I just noticed that they are still charging me on my ConEd bill. This company is highly unethical in their business practices, and I am reporting them to the Public Service Commission.
I was approached at a Whiskey festival in February. The associate was very helpful and informative, able to take care of everything from his iPad, and was very upfront about the switch, even mentioning that on average it may be $10 more expensive per month, but the energy sourcing is 100% renewable. We joked about how its a bit strange to be at a whiskey festival as an energy provider and that hes taking advantage of the inebriated, but he had a good sense of humor. Now 2 months in my bill is indeed higher, but not by $10 (just under), and thats probably also in part to staying home every day due to COVID-19.Good experience switching and so far.
EDIT: Upping my rating as, with the help of the folks that responded here, I was able to get my cancellation processed. Ill maintain that I shouldnt have had to jump through hoops to get this sorted out, but the problem is resolved.Dont be fooled.I signed up with this company, being under the impression that if I wanted to I could cancel without penalty within three days as stated in my contract. I did some research, and decided that I would cancel. As instructed in the contract, I sent a letter to the PO box listed. As a precaution, I added tracking to the letter, and Im glad I did because the letter is now being returned to sender because, according to the USPS, the company is no longer at the cancellation address they listed on my contract and they left no forwarding address.Ive now been reaching out to them for a week trying to get something in writing that they will still honor my cancellation. I have received no response.
I would give them 0 stars if I could! I have been wondering why my bill has been astronomical as of late and have even unplugged so many things thinking it was the reason...NOPE they are charging me over DOUBLE the price MetEd charges. .13kwh compared to .06kwh! I tired emailing them with my account number and no responses at all! 4 years I have been dealing with this horrible company being overcharged. Honestly stick to metEd to buy through instead of them they are thieves and scam artists.
Signed up at a coffee festival and was told my bill would only go up $8 a month which seemed reasonable. I monitored my bill the first few months and everything seemed normal, until I got a bill last month that was three times more than what I normally pay. Called up and canceled immediately, DO NOT LISTEN TO THESE PEOPLE. They’ll literally say anything to get you to hand over your account info and continue running their scam.
I find it awesome that theres a profit-based company using consumer choice to drive the industry toward change. So awesome, that Ive been a customer and employee for years. Consumers have a choice to pay a little bit more to go 100% pollution-free for their electricity. If you have the choice, then isnt it also your responsibility? I see a few negative reviews, but I think those customers missed a key piece of information: The answer to not being subject to rate volatility as a GME customer is very simply to call up GMEs customer service and request a fixed rate. If you do so, youll get the benefit of a fixed rate (which your utility company cant provide) as well as neutralizing your carbon footprint for your energy usage, avoiding tons of CO2 emissions every year. Theres nothing better you can do for the environment than this.
I started using Green Mountain Energy a few years ago since I am an early-adopter in using clean-energy sources for my homes electricity. Every year I receive a solar check and a wind check simply by using energy created by these natural resources. I am hoping that more of my friends and family would consider switching their energy needs through a renewable energy company such as Green Mountain Energy. We must all make important decisions to help save the future of our planetl
They approached me at my local Walmart telling me how much I can save. They said I needed to change service then and there, and there was no documentation/brochures/contract details for me to look over.As other reviews have stated, this is a scam. They want to convince you into changing on the spot by saying its cheaper, but you will get roped into a year contract, with heavy early termination fees.I knew the moment they wanted me to switch on the spot that it was predatory and sketchy.I cannot in good faith recommend this company given it is scammy, and would not advise doing business with them. I would also pay heed to what others wrote that they have their employees write reviews here.
Just recently signed up at The Philadelphia Flower show, havent received a bill using Green Mountain yet, but was pleased there was no pressure to sign up and like that my electric and gas will be coming from cleaner sources.Unlike the many companies that have knocked on my door Green Mountain didn’t act like they were representing the Major gas and electric companies in my area such as PECO and Pa gas Co.
The representative was immensely knowledgeable about how the company works, the sources of energy, the rates and how they lower annually. Something cool: the methane gas they provide is tapped from landfills! I’m very pleased with the transparency of Green Mountain Energy, and look forward to them helping me with my footprint.
Biggest rip off ever. The bill was over 70 percent more during the summer months alone. I maintain a paperless environment and automatic withdrawal. Hence I didn’t realize I was being ripped off. I wrote several emails and NO response. The company is a scam. I will report it to the agencies and better business bureau if I am not refunded ASAP, again, DO NOT join this service. It is a rip off, scam and they lie to you. ALSO CUSTOMER SERVICE IS HORRIFIC CAUSE NO INE HAS CONTACTED ME. Advise please!!!! And ASAP
I was told by a salesman in a best buy that signing up for this company would in the long run help me conserve energy. What the salesman DID NOT tell me was it was a 12 month contract of an extra $22 on my con edison account. THIS IS A SCAM. ABSOLUTLY AVOID AT ALL COSTS. I am happy that I took an extra look at my Con Ed Bill this month or else I wouldnt have noticed.
Be really careful with this company. They’ll try to convince you that you’ll have a modest increase in your bill, but give it a few months and you’ll see why they’ve received so many 1 star ratings. You’ll probably even see them at a local farmers market, they’ll convince you that it’s a good move and that you’re saving the planet. The guy I met even said there’s no risk and I can cancel anytime without a fee (this was a lie).If you’re reading this and just signed up and are freaking out with these reviews, you have recourse. You have 3 business days to cancel before they have you by the balls. In addition to cancelling with GME, make sure to call Con Ed to have them blocked.Felt so dumb signing up without Googling.
What a scam! They spoke to me at Best Buy, and for a few months it went great, the prices were somewhat similar but I figured I was doing something good. Then without notice, prices spiked up and ended up costing me way more than when I did not use them!!!So I called customer service and guess what? Not only were they not able to help me but they actually said MY RATE WOULD GO UP MORE starting this month and in order to cancel it would take 1 to 2 billing cycles!!!!! So I’m stuck with them and will literally lose money for nothing.Horrible company, do not fall into it. I would never recommend this company to anyone.
HORRIBLE, I was PROMISED by their reps who allured me in at the farmers market that IT WOULD HELP my family TO SAVE MONEY, NOT to be CHARGED MORE! Its INSANE i just checked and saw we were charged $150 more each month! this is a SCAM!!!!!! STAY AWAY from this Robbery. Green Mountain, please immediately return us our money!! We are a low income family who didnt know we would be scammed like that, & were barely able to pay our bills & had to cut the food away from our kids who go hungry bec we tried to keep up with electricity bills which were automatic and this company increased their bill into twice higher without any notifications!!! Its a lie, we had to borrow money to keep up with our electricity bills and could not even afford to buy food to our 4 kids! I sent you an email now to your feedback email, so immediately cancel our service and return us the money you stole from us without our permission to increase rates/prices without even any notifications! we were told by your reps at the market we would never be charged more without notifications & if we do, we can always have that canceled! cancel and refund us the money we ended up paying more!!! This is the money taken away from our kids food, who we could not afford to buy a piece of cheese or fruit or fresh veggies! & u took these amounts away from us! what a SHAME & DISGRACE to steal from needy families like us! by alluring us in with COMPLETE LIES!
The choice was simple, support power generated by naturally occurring wind or continue to destroy the earth. Switching to Green Mountain Energy is just one of the small steps you can take to reduce your carbon footprint. It saves you money and there is no difference in how you manage your electric bill payments. Smart for the planet, smart for your wallet.
Scam alert! I signed up for this service from the Park Slope Greenmarket in Brooklyn. Was told I would be paying on average 10% more in electricity in support of green energy initiatives. Seemed like a good cause so I signed up. Just found out from my local energy provider ConEd, that ConEd is charging .06 per KW vs Green Mountain, who was charging 15.9 cents. Thats 250%, not 10%!!When I called Green Mountain to inquire, they said the service jumped up after 3 months. No one ever told me that would happen. And even at the lower rate it was still .11 to start vs Con Ed @ .06. Close to double the price to start, not 10% even during the first 3 months.People scamming in the name of Green initiatives is like stealing from widows and orphans. Shame on them.
Just reviewed my monthly bills on ConEd website and realized that this company was charging me $25 to $45 more then ConEd rates! Just to give you an idea my bill for one bedroom apartment with no laundry, dishwasher or AC unit in winter would cost me $150 a month! That’s basically just for the lights, TV and computer. I’ve used them for the past 6 years, so that’s tons of money!
Scam! Deceptive charging more money for the same electricity. How do you know for sure What type of Electricity you are getting? Can you see it? We shouldnt have to pay at all since it is easily sourced from underground. Nikola Tesla the real Tesla created a coil that was able to provide free electricity to a small town in Colorado in the early 1900s. Was that clean or dirty? No difference. So dont waste your money on money changers that swindle customers!
Questionable to fraudulent business practices. My wife encountered a sales person from Green Mountain at a KMART kiosk just outside of Baltimore, MD at the end of July this year. Apparently Green Mountain is a new energy middleman in our area, and they are aggressively courting customers at various retail locations. They pitched her and asked for information, including our BGE (Baltimore Gas & Electric) account number. She didnt have the BGE info (and wasnt comfortable signing up for something without talking to me), but asked the sales person to send us more information. She gave him my email address and our physical mailing address. We immediately looked into the company (I mean, who doesnt want renewable/more green energy at an affordable price?), and decided against it once we read a multitude of negative reviews.Green Mountain attempted to contact me via phone and email for a few weeks after this, but I ignored them since we had decided to not pursue the switch to their service. About a month after my wifes encounter with the Green Mountain sales person at KMART, I received a letter in the mail from them congratulating me on officially becoming a customer. At this point I had never spoken to anyone at Green Mountain, nor had I signed up for any service through their website or otherwise. I called our current provider, BGE, and they informed me that Green Mountain had indeed submitted paperwork to have my service cancelled at BGE and shifted to them. Using my home address and phone number, Green Mountain submitted the paperwork, and apparently this is fairly standard had I given consent. Since I hadnt, I immediately called Green Mountain to find out how this happened. The customer service agent agreed this should never have happened and processed my cancellation immediately...but with a caveat: It would probably take a billing cycle before we were switched back to BGE, which means they would at least get one service months worth of money from me before I get switched back. This is all still recent, and Im exploring my options. Either way, do NOT give their sales people any of your personal information, and Id advise against this company in general based on the experience I had.
Its been surprisingly difficult to stay with Green Mountain Energy, simply because ConEdison has farmed my account out to two different energy suppliers, or ESCOs—one a sketchy hydroelectric operation, and one a different renewable energy company. Apparently, ConEd can do this on a whim if they so choose.I recently re-joined Green Mountain, and at the time I signed up I was told the price is actually competitive with what I had been paying CleanChoice™—the other renewable energy company I was with. The transition was painless, and Id prefer knowing my electricity is coming from a renewable source.
UPDATE to this...alll you have to do is call Con Ed and theyll remove the company from your profile. Much easier than jumping through hoops. Rookie error on my side.I was signed up for this as I had something similar in the UK and then thought twice about it and asked for my account not to be set up. The sales person buzzed through the terms without much clarification. Two requests and phone calls to the service center have gone unanswered.I really dont want this service now that I understand it better and only wish that someone would respond to my emails or take my call.
Lying sales woman. Deceitful practices. I was approached in Walmart Clifton Park and offered a reduced energy bill. I was given a device to sign up. I asked the woman if Im agreeing to service, she stated No. This is to see if you qualify. I then get a letter from Nat Grid explaining that I am now with Green Mountain Co. and to call them if I dont want this service. The person was a dark haired heavy set woman. I hate being approached with amazing offers then lied to. I was in fact signing up for a new company. I hate these practices by Green Mountain. Do not sign up.
I was walking on a beautiful sunny day in Prospect Park and came upon a Green Mountain kiosk and decided to see what it was all about. Getting away from fossil fuels is important and paying a wee bit more is worth it. As time goes by and more people switch Im sure the price will drop too. A win win!!
Are you currently googling Green Mountain Energy because youre at a beer/wine/coffee/other local festival and they have a table with salespeople telling you that you can make a difference for the environment and save money on your electricity bill? STOP HERE! Green Mountain Energy targeted young Baltimore residents with false promises of bills that would be comparable to what were currently paying with some months being cheaper and some months being slightly more expensive, but all the while showing electric companies that we prefer renewable resources. After months of comparing our electric cost to Baltimore Gas and Electric Company in $/kWh, we realize weve made a grave mistake. The cost is often close to DOUBLE what BGE charges per kWh! If Im going to help the environment in the future, it will be in a way that doesnt line another CEOs pockets.
Signed me up without my permission!!! Salesrep signed someone of my family up whose name isnt even the primary account holder w/ PECO account (I AM!!!!). They never received my consent even after I told the salerep that we were not interested in signing up! The salesrep proceeded to pressure my family member into signing up and acted as if I had never told him no. When I confronted him about being signed up he acted as if he didnt know who I was.P.S. Fire your sales rep, who was at the Phoenix Festival on Dec 7, 2019. Terribly unprofessional and very poor salesmanship. No means no. Fix this immediately.
Green Mountain Energy is an informative and worthwhile service. They help you to understand the division of energy sources in the U.S. and allow you to make an informed decision to switch to renewable, zero-carbon energy. We love the work they are doing and the education they are providing!
Whats not to like about knowing the energy we use in our household comes from renewable resources? True it costs a little more, but I can afford it. The difference is less than a cup of Wawa coffee a day. Also, customer service is top notch. The folks at GME all seem like good people.
F.Y.I. to any potential customers or reviewers, if you dont like the rate of your bill or think its too high, call customer service and ask for their best possible rate. The customer service rep. I talked to was super helpful when I called, and the company actually sent me a $30 check as a little reimbursement. Plus its 100% renewable energy!
I just encountered two Green Mountain Energy salespersons with a sales stand in a public place. The salespersons had very little knowledge about the Green Mountain product they were selling, power generation, alternative energy systems, and how the present utility infrastructure works. I have an advantage as I am a trained mechanical engineer who has experience and training in the energy industry, but Green Mountain Energy, you should consider providing more training and development for your staff. You may need to breakdown and hire engineers to work on and/or support you sales team. I know the compensation for engineering staff is much more but you get what you pay for and the Green Mountain Energy name will gain much more credibility. Good luck.
I’ve been a customer for almost a year and Green mountain has been great! I feel good about helping the planet and since I called to get a fixed rate, the bill has stayed within my budget (full disclosure, I do work for GME, but no one asked me to write this, and I really do feel this way)
How do I cancel this service?? Reading the bad reviews, just signed up at a music festival. Literally 2 hours ago. Tje piece of paper we were handed doesnt have any information other than we have 3 days to cancelWhat does that mean? We were told there is no contract. Please post anyone with contact info. Already had a bad experience with another of these companies. Should have read reviews first
Heres what you need to know:1. Switching to a green energy provider is one of the most impactful things you can do to combat climate change and air pollution .2. Green Mountains standards are high--no greenwashing.3. Its absurdly easy. Really, theres no excuse. Do it.
I would give ZERO stars if it was allowed! I chose NOT to enroll, and the representative assured me the my signature represented my declination of the offer- and was to also show his manager that I had been contacted successfully and was to be taken off the solicitation list- however my bill STILL shows this company as my supplier, and my rate is at an absolutely ridiculous 8.20cents/kwh!!!! Meanwhile PPL is a .0443cents/kwh!!! This is robbery and FRAUD!
NYC here - They gave me a promotional rate for three months, and within that time I could decide if I wanted to keep it or not, and I had to call to keep it cheap! And I did! Many of the bad reviewers here didn’t seem to ask what they were signing up for. It’s great to have the option to get wind power at my apartment, and I’ll stick with it as long as I’m stuck with Con-Ed!!!
Buyer beware I guess...probably paid twice as much as I should have for almost 2 years. The market is opaque enough that they can get away with it. You CAN and should compare rates but the fact that a rate that is double the city (NYC) average can exist for 2 years tells you a thing or 2 about the state of competition. Regulators, how about capping it at say 150% of the top 5 lowest rates? I mean, 200% is ridiculous. You got me Green Mountain, hope you saved some trees with my money.
Yes, thank you. I get daily emails from you that keep me current with my energy usage and balance. Since I dont pay large sums of money at this given time knowing when my balance is low is crucial to me. I make payments quickly and prevent energy cut offs. Thank you again.
I recently called Green Mountain Energy to see if I could reduce my costs, given the realities of life in the time of COVID-19. The person who assisted me found a way for me to significantly reduce my costs, so I can save money and continue to do some environmental good.
In Pittsburgh i met a sales person and told her sure she could send me info on their company. She took my info and when she asked for my street address i confirmed again that she was just sending me info on rates and what not. A few weeks passed and I was signed up for their service!! It was much more expensive than what I was paying through Duquesne light company and they literally lied to me and signed me up without consent. DO NOT pursue service with this company. They are expensive and I am reporting them to the PUC.
OK, so the prices werent great at first. But the last time I saw the G.M. staff at the farmers market, they told me I could ask for the lowest fixed rate, which is half of what I used to pay. So Im happy now. Also, this is renewable energy, folks! We need to support it! These people were pioneers in supplying renewable energy to this area. :-)
I am all for green energy but cannot seem to find a way to get a yard sign that says: Green Mountain Energy 100% wind power with a phone number. You people act as though the battle against climate change is over and we won. You know who else is like that? Donald Trump declaring victory over Covid-19. Send me a freakin yard sign.
Despicable. Its just so convenient to go, in the span of 2 months, charge 8 cents and change per kwh to almost 16. Almost double. With no transparency or notifications. If youre considering please read their reviews.I hope we can collectively bring their ratings down so people are more aware of this scam job.
I believe that I have saved money in Electrical and Gas Services with Orange and Rockland by partnering with Green Mountain Energy. I believe that Orange and Rockland has also made changes in the services they provide and better equipment to enhance the savings earned.
They have people in the street baiting you in their service saying that it is good for the environment and that your charges stay the same. Reality is by the time I started paying attention in my coned bill, i had forked out hundreds of dollars to them OVER what the similar service would cost at Coned. Stay away....
These people came knocking on my door. Nice enough and just doing their job-that part I understand however, if I say I’m not interested DO NOT say someone will just be back next week. At that point it’s harassment and I will be filing a complaint with the PSC if someone comes back to my house!
Complete and total ripoff! I, like so many others, was initially lured in by the “renewable energy” pitch. Unfortunately, that “renewable energy” ends up costing double what we were paying with peco. An 1100 sq ft condo with $400+ for electric is beyond absurd. Needless to say, we’ve switched providers.
Long story short: JPC&L rate : 9.7 c/kwh. Other renewable: 8.89 c/kwh. Green Mt rate : 16.4 c/kwh.Details:State: NJ,Provider: JPC&LStandard rate (Basic Generation Service) - 9.7c / kwh.Rate from other pretty common renewable energy company supplier with 12 months locked rate : 8.89 c / kwhYet another 100% renewable company, 12 months fixed rate: 9.29 c / kwhRate from GreenMountain: 16.4 c / kwhThere’s absolutely 0 reasons to go with Green Mt as there already are numerous renewable energy alternative providers. You just are paying double for the same.
They should spend LESS time reading everything and either mail or email the customer the rules. 1/2 hr on the phone is a total waste of my time and the 2nd person you speak to cannot even answers questions so they have to redirect you back and STARY ALL OVER AGAIN!!! :(

2022-07-21Green mountain energy is a scam company. they will over charge you for energy. follow you from address to address secretly, siphoning off hundreds of dollars hidden in your energy bill. they prey on people who want to do the right thing, but they needlessly complicate your bills and will do it for years. I canceled my account with them, and 3 years later i’m getting hit with $800 bills for past energy use. Con-ed point their finger at Green Mountain, and Green Mountain points right back at con-ed, and you will be stuck with the bill or lose your power.

2022-07-13I work from home - someone let sales reps into our building and they must have walked to every apartment because they kept knocking on my door (I was on a work call that I had to excuse myself because they wouldnt stop knocking). The moment I opened the door they started talking and when I got a pause I told them I was at work and had to go back to a call, they asked what time I finished work (5pm) and then asked what time it was now (2pm), and they asked if I could come back, and I said I wasnt interested, and they kept trying to talk to me while people were waiting for me on a call.In the end I had to close the door on them. Our building also has a told of elderly tenants, and she also wasnt wearing a mask.Awful awful company.

2022-06-01DO NOT TOUCH THEIR IPAD OR GIVE THEM YOUR ADDRESS. The sales person I met lied to my face and told me I was not signing up and then the next day I was signed up AND MY CHEAPER COMPANY CONTRACT WAS CANCELLED. Their sales practices are disgusting and you should not trust them.

2022-06-01A lady lied to me and said she was just getting my information to send me more information without signing me up and then she signed me up for their service at a higher rate than my current. I cannot go back to my old energy company at the rate i was locked into anymore. Don’t talk to the sales people they will lie to your face.

2022-02-09My bill before green mountain was typically low because I work all day. I am only home at night. Since signing up with them it’s been ridiculous. When I signed they said the bill would be no more than $5-$10 dollars. Bold face lie. It jump over $100 when you see them run! I just canceled and if they hit me with any fees there will be issues because I asked if there were any. Don’t sign up.

2022-04-08This is a scam! They keep saying “they can’t find my account” when I call trying to cancel my account. This is ridiculous - can someone please put me in contact with someone in the New York area to cancel my account

2021-12-07After going through the ridiculous process of documenting an obvious case of someone setting up a fraudulent account with my info, after 7 weeks of dealing with folks not paid enough to care, I finally got a letter from Green Mountains Collections department with a canned apology for the inconvenience and a promise that they had notified their collection agency of the fraud AND delete the negative reporting. 17 days later the same collection agency AGAIN submitted the fraudulent $400 collection to the credit reporting bureaus. Followed up with Green Mountains collection agency who claims they have never been notified by Green Mountain to remove the fraudulent account. ***FOLLOW UP*** since the token auto response on this...On December 1st after fighting my way through the initial phone pawns with no buy in, getting connected to a supervisor and instantly having the call dropped, I went through it all again and sat on hold for 20 minutes to get to a supervisor (Latoya, EID 09112508 who assured me she would get back to me within 24 hours with a resolution.....Of course she did not. So after 24 hours I went through all the nonsense again for 20-25 minutes and got to another person supposedly in the credit/collection department (Erik EID 09114056) who assured me someone would follow up with me, you guessed it, within 24 hours. That was 5 days ago and no one from Green Mountain cares enough to follow up and apparently their initial employee screening includes competency in lying.

2021-09-12An awful lecturing company! My bill went up $45 a month because of them and they said it would only go up $5 a month. It doubled my bill in nyc. Rip off scam beware do not sign up. 2022-02-08This company shut my power off last month when it was 24 degrees outside. Then, within less than 30 days (today), they did it again with zero notice!!! Horrible company and I am switching soon!
