Looking at the website for their current hours of operation, I read a few of the negative reviews for Greenbush Computer Fare, and I just couldn’t keep silent! I will soon be making a trip over from Berkshire County to have my older HP laptop, which was not purchased there, either repaired or traded in, if possible. My husband and I, as well as friends, have had many very positive experiences with this business when we lived in New York. I made a huge mistake not long ago entrusting my desktop and laptop computers for cleaning and upgrades to a computer repairman in Berkshire County who was able to access our PayPal account and made several unauthorized payments to himself, in addition to what we had already paid him for his mediocre service. Fortunately, PayPal returned every cent, but after that, I won’t trust anyone else now to work on our devices except Greenbush Computer Fare. We have purchased computers, printers, and have had repairs done in the past — all at very reasonable and fair prices. You can’t find a more honest and reliable business than Greenbush Computer Fare!
I won’t even give this business a single star. I have previously had service done here and been satisfied. I brought my computer in the first week of June. It would power up but then shut off. After 3+ weeks I called and they told me it was done. There were some dirty connections, once cleaned computer worked fine. Had the computer home 2 days and it started doing the same thing. I called. The owner said bring it back in. After 2+ weeks calling to check in nothing had been done and the tech was never there to talk to. I was told by the owner the tech had a newborn and was unable to make it to all his shifts. When I expressed that him having a newborn wasn’t really the customers problem. I said obviously I have children I understand how hard that can be but this is business. That is when it went all wrong. The owner proceeded to tell me how unreasonable I was. Asking me if I really wanted the techs wife to lose her job. I told him I would just come and get my computer and would really appreciate a refund as my computer is still not fixed. He said that absolutely was not going to happen. So I said I will take my computer elsewhere. At which he responded that was unfair to the next tech who got it. I didn’t understand that. Nevertheless, the conversation ended with him blowing me off. I had an uneasy feeling and decided I would take the loss and just go get the computer. When I showed up I requested my computer and said thank you, have a nice day and good luck with your business. He proceeded to tell me he had done well for 20 years. I, annoyed said I will be leaving a review of their service as I walked out the door. He proceeded to come from behind the counter and follow me into the parking lot. Unsure of this mans behavior I walked to the other side of my vehicle. He proceeded to stand at the drivers side of my car telling me he knew my type. I am used to getting what I want. I said this is really unprofessional and if paying for a service expecting it to be done is that then I guess I am guilty. He proceeded to scream at me as I was trying to get in my car. He told me good luck in finding someone to fix the computer that his business was the only one. Obviously I made a snarky remark that If that is the case then we are all in trouble. He walked in the building then turned around and flung the door open coming back out and said and if you leave a review you better be accurate because I respond to them.I left and went 6 miles up the road to Nassau Computer Repairs. The owner Lloyd was professional, kind. He opened my computer up to find the RAM was missing. He had the computer diagnosed in 15 minutes.I called the Computer Fare to ask about the RAM. The owner said he had no idea, he would have the tech call me. I insisted I receive a call by the next day at 5 o’clock or I would report it as a theft. He laughed and said I was an idiot and the police will do nothing.Even if I am out the money I paid him and my RAM is never given back I don’t want anyone else to have this experience.Sorry for the length and probably bad grammar. Just wanted to be accurate.*** I do believe I was pretty accurate and omitted nothing. I did state I requested a refund, which I requested over the phone. I also included that annoyed I made the comment about the review. Also, I did state that I was going to pick the computer up but would first speak with my husband to see what he would like to do. “ showing up unannounced” is a bit dramatic. As for Lloyd he was provided with all of the computers records and an explanation of all repairs. Claiming user abuse is the dumbest thing I have ever heard especially coming from a computer shop owner who doesn’t know enough about computers apparently to work on them himself. Suggesting the tech had suspected a mother board failure is a total fabrication. It was diagnosed as being dusty. The owner can respond all he wants to me. I have nothing to lose or gain from this review or the owners response. Reviews are to make people aware of your experiences. This was my experience and I say consumer beware.
I wanted to eliminate my GPU as the problem while troubleshooting my PC. I called ahead and asked how much they would charge to simply put my GPU into one of their machines and tell me if it is working. The gentleman on the phone said they would charge for a quarter-hour of labor which sounded fair, so I said would be there shortly. I was there within 30 mins of calling and about 45 mins before they closed. I dont believe there were any customers there besides myself (If you want to get technical, Im not actually a customer since I decided against using them) and there were at least two employees that I know of (one was engaged on the phone).Long story short - they wanted me to leave it overnight for them to look at.To be fair, when I called I never specifically asked if they could do it while I wait, but common sense should imply Im not going to drop it off, wait a day, and go back a second time for what would have been 5-10 mins worth of work. Of course if they had swamped I would have been more understanding... but that definitely did not appear to be the case.As a potential customer, I was disappointed to say the least. I dont think my time or money or possibly repeat business meant anything to them. I wont be going back.
I gave them two stars because they actually fixed my laptop, but it was a painful process. When I brought my laptop in, I had a hard time communicating to the guy at the register what I wanted. I knew it was a simple fix and usually fix these issues myself, but it takes a while. I figured a place like this has the tools they need to fix a simple problem at least in a day or two. The guy kept saying ridiculous things that could be wrong that I just knew werent the case. I called the next day because I felt uneasy and again told the guy what I wanted. I also asked him to upgrade it to a rush service. He said theyd call later that afternoon, but they didnt. It took them six days to get it back to me on a rush order and it was the problem I had suggested from the beginning. The guys working in the back were nice and knowledgeable but the guys at the front desk have no idea what they are talking about.
Sold my mom an iPad first generation for $149. Unfortunately I didnt do research on a good price and have since found out how ridiculously they ripped us off. Cant use it and will never get anything close to that money back. Called to see if they would negotiate taking it back for $100 and I would still lose $49. Nope! Rude staff. HIGHLY HIGHLY DO NOT RECOMMEND!!!
I work out of my home in Colonie, and needed emergency help with my laptop. The computer repair store in Colonie wanted $110 upfront, and couldnt get to it for 2 days. I called EG Computer Fare. Rob said to come on over and he would see what he could do. 15 minutes after I arrived they had my lap top fixed and for much less then the Colonie store wanted. It was worth the 10 minute drive!

2022-05-09Could not be happier! I lost my long-time tech earlier this year, and had been stymied trying to find someone(s) anywhere nearly as good within any kind of reasonable driving distance. Rob and Dave did a terrific job with the secondary PC I brought to them a couple of months ago and I have gone back with my main PC I rely on for work daily. I need people who will work with me personally and are dedicated to quality work, and they surely are coming through for me.

2021-08-04The absolute best! After checking out the laptop inventory at Target and Best Buy, I was so happy to find this place! The prices are the best in the area and the owner was super knowledgeable. Will definitely be coming back for any other computer needs!

2021-07-10I normally can fix any computer no matter what the issue but the new windows feature update gave me the blue screen of death. Under normal circumstances you could just insert the recovery disc and fix the problem, not with this feature update! The recovery mode did not work and my personal data had to be backed up on a separate drive and my boot drive was formatted and a new clean install of windows 10pro was applied. You guys know me, I dont waste my time with inferior products or services, So if you run into this problem, call Rob to have a fix in 48hrs or less.

2019-01-05I have been doing business with these guys for at least 15 years. I have never been disappointed in service provided, speed of service or price charged. But over the past Christmas vacation period I had the need to get my computer fixed. I was unable to get signed into the internet. They gave me a easy fix quickly and costing less than imagined. I took the computer in on a Thursday late in the day. I was advised mid afternoon on Friday the job was completed. I was amazed at the quick turnaround. Needless to say I was impressed once again. Clearly, they get my 5 star rating again!

2018-07-30Valued service, happy that this business is in our community. Greenbush Computer Fare has always provided me with an excellent solution, whether it be a business or personal need. Over the years I have purchased equipment, from computers to cables....I have brought in machines that have become unusable(in my mind), and they have resurrected them so I need not look any further for new equipment. My knowledge base is definitely not the inner workings of a computer. At Greenbush Computer Fare....they do not hold that against me! Once I explain my predicament, I get a calm and effective set of suggestions I can choose from. Bottom line, I walk into Greenbush Computer Fare and they are happy to see me. I know how important that is to a customer. It is just the way things should be.

2018-07-14Over the years, and as recently as 30 days ago, I have purchased new and used computers from GCF. Dave is always ready to meet my computing needs, and the techs are quite competent. I had a computer infected with malware for which my knowledge was no match. They fixed it at a reasonable cost. I have never had a bad experience here. Dave will not steer you wrong, and he is honest with his evaluations of problems. His answer might not be what I wanted to hear, but it is honest.I think the negative reviews posted here are probably from people with an ax to grind, or with just enough computer knowledge to make them dangerous. It might be the case of You cant handle the truth. Sometimes, computers just cannot be fixed, or the fix is expensive making repair an undesirable alternative. So, five stars is what they deserve. You will always be treated fairly at Greenbush Computer Fare. (Plus, they have some great deals on used components and peripherals.)
