This was my neighborhood gym, and I think you get a lot for your money. The fitness room is open 24/7 and is decent, though it gets super crowded at peak hours. They have a range of classes to take included in your membership. I loved that they have a pool, and the aqua exercise classes were a lot of fun for those looking for non-impact exercise. Yoga classes were ok, but pretty crowded and lacked the personal attention that I look for in a yoga class (I dont want to do a pose wrong and pull something!).
The worst hotel I ever intended, dirty bathroom, and musty, smelly, room and it room was cold and when I ask to clean or change the room or fix the air conditioner or turn on the heater the customer service doesnt help us at all and they dont have any sense or respect to their customers even after I told them to extend my reservation. so I decided to move out to another hotel.
The entire second floor reeked of something extremely foul the second floor is also the only place with a mens bathroom so good luck using the toilet of shower in this hotel. The womans bathroom is pretty nice though located on the third floor. Upon entering we also noticed the curtains being broken on one side and the beds felt like they were made of plastic.
PLEASE DO NOT STAY HERE!!!! I’m not sure what these rooms were use for pre-hostel/hotel but the beds are basically air mattresses. The beds are so bad my neck is stiff and swollen from staying not even a few hours in the room. The advertised free parking is street parking, rooms are dusty, shared bathroom is a communal bathroom which was dirty upon arrival and according to the log hasn’t been cleaned in a MONTH.
This youth hostel is ok!! Well you really get what youve paid for!!! It is pretty cold in the room so Id advice that you bring some blankets so you dont get cold (if you go there during the winter)! The staff is very nice and very helpful and it is only two blocks away from the subway line! You get a free breakfast when you book there but AVOID it! The staffof the restaurant is very mean and they will treat you like a dog (even worse!).
This place is wonderful! It has great hours(note that it is NOT open 24-7 as stated in anther post. However, the hours are still good.) The place is frequently repainted and machines are replaced often. There are more than enough lockers for everyone. Just stay away in the evening if you dont like having all the treadmills taken. It is PERFECT in the summertime for runners who cant wake up in the morning and who cannot work out at night.(since it is too hot outside) The AC is ALWAYS on!
The best place if you need to walk to the Brooklyn convention center. Post office only a block to the right when facing outside. However, after 3 days my back was not happy...the mattresses are a little too thin. No elevator. Great private room. Honestly the HI New York hostel in upper midtown blows this away on price and non-exercise amenities. Like i said, if you have a normal body and you need to walk to the Brooklyn convention center this is it!! One star less than the max for not having an elevator after all I am a disabled veteran and I was on the 6th floor or whatever.
I wish I could give you a 0 star. On May 12, worst experience ever. My room was freezing, there was no heat at all (they didnt turn on the heat) until 3:30 AM I couldnt sleep like that,so I ask the reception to fit it, but they couldnt fit it, they changed my room without any apologize. However the room still cold and no heat
We were really disappointed with our visit. The showers were separate, there was no shower and toilet in the rooms, and there was no shower on our floor for men, so we had to go up and want to shower. The showers were really dirty and the mattresses were not suitable for sleeping. Not recommending at all, bad value for payment
The YMCA is not bad accommodations at all if your on a budget, what more could you ask for; walking distance to the subway that takes you right back into Manhattan, the actual YMCA is across the street from the police station (safety), and your a few blocks away from Williamsburg Brooklyn, the hippest, up-and-coming area in all of NYC. Walk down Lorimer Street to Bedford Avenue and check out Mugs Alehouse while your in the area, its a cozy craft beer bar, that has more of a pub atmosphere and really good food. The YMCA as I mentioned is not glamorous, it has a gym, locker room kind of feel, but with beds. No Problem! Now with all that money you saved, Eat, Drink, & Be Merry in the City** DisclaimerWhen traveling, always use your own bedding when staying in motels, low-end hotels, or inexpensive rooms.
I learned on to swim at this ymca many years back when I was a child. The swim teachers were really good with children. The summer camp is really fun and engaging for children as well. They take the kids on trips every two weeks. On a regular day they take them to parks around greenpoint or to the pool in the YMCA. Overall it was a great experience to have a child.
We went to check out the swimming pool last weekend. On the phone nobody told us Sunday was family only day which meant the pool was being used mainly by small children and we would not be allowed to swim at all. It way way too small for it anyway. Such a waste of time..
We had a triple room and for the week over Christmas and New Years the price could not be beat. And I also knew I wasnt here at the Hilton. But it was by far the worst thing Ive ever booked and Ive stayed in many cheap hostels. The YMCA has a sauna, which we didnt know was in the room. When we opened the door to our room for the first time, an unbelievable warmth came towards us because the heating controller was defective. The heater couldnt be turned down and it was so hot you couldnt even touch it. After the caretaker did not get the problem under control for three consecutive days, we gave it up for lack of his competence and slept with the window open. Then came the next problem, there is a police station directly opposite and you were woken up at least twice a night by the siren of the police car with the window open. But we didnt care, because we were so exhausted by our busy daily program in NYC that we slept like rocks despite the adverse circumstances. The decor of the room was also very spartan. A double bed and a single bed, two bedside tables, a clothes rail, a television and air conditioning were the complete inventory. The bathroom was across the hall and functional.Breakfast was included in a diner one block away. The bacon and egg sandwich was delicious the first four days, but from day five we got a little bit sick. There was also coffee, tea or hot chocolate. All in all, I would book it again for this price because everything else in NYC is much more expensive. So if you are a little painless, are out with friends and get by with little comfort, it is useful.
Air conditioner out of work sometimes, no stable hot water in shower room, so I check out before the schedule day, but YMCA didnt refund as they promised.wont never consider this hotel ever. The air conditioner is sometimes broken, the hot water in the bathroom is not hot enough, and the sanitation is not good, so I cant stand it and check out early, but YMCA did not have the refund as they promised at the counter, even if I contacted later, I would not respond. Dont consider this hotel anymore.
Inexpensive but staff is very rude.Reported that the toilet paper was out and they ignored it with an Aha, although two employees behind the reception were obviously bored and were playing with their smartphones. After 12 hours I went to the reception again with a different line-up and the paper was immediately refilled. There is only one shared mens bathroom on one floor. Inside was a dead cockroach. Not so bad, but still relevant to many: there is no kitchen, no microwave and no refrigerator and WiFi is only available on the bottom floor. All in all I dont recommend this hostel, especially because of the staff.
, Passable ➖ Shared bathroom: One shower only for all male guests. The 2nd broken! Always full and uncomfortable. The hallways stank like hell. WIFI was ok!➕ Breakfast at the nearby restaurant. Loved it (scrambled eggs, bacon, bread & coffee), room was clean & bed comfy.

2018-11-09Greenpoint is such a lovely place to stay when you are on a lean budget like in my case. The interior is super cool, clean and well-maintained. The personnel i met upon my arrival are very warm, welcoming and customer-friendly too.I booked for a private room on the 3rd floor and its just so good for the price. However, I didnt like the fact that I have to go way down to 2nd floor in order to use restroom or bath.Theres an indoor swimming pool which has a lifeguard on standby - always-always. There are also locker rooms where belongings are kept before before heading to swim.

2018-09-23The area that it was located wasn’t bad, very close to all the stores and not bothered by being across from the police station. The pros were, it was rather cheap the cons were the most of the employees there were unfriendly except for the overnight guy and two of the housekeepers everyone else looked like they hated their job or hated ppl. The bathroom was shared with the whole floor and it was dirty, the door to the room was a hassle to get it as well, overall it was an ok stay for someone who’s in a rush to get a place to stay.

2017-12-19Bedbugs ??????? Good location, good price, and was part of the YMCA, but I must give them the absolute lowest rating all around because I had what appeared to be strong indication of bedbugs ( got bitten up and saw bugs) in my room (#302) and there totally bizarre denial that anything was wrong with my room. Asked for full refund and was offered no refund at all. Talked with Emma Isles and she said they would do my laundry and treat the room as a precaution while I scratched my bites which she saw and said they havent had bugs for over 4 years. Really????? Looks like people have had problems with bedbugs before here but as concerns come up the responses stay the same.Stay away or take your chances?

2017-06-01Me and my friend slept well on the beds and they were kind of comfortable to lay on. The shared bathroom was the worst part of the stay. It was uncomfortable and the bathrooms made all the hallways smell of urine. The mens bathroom should have a sliding door that locks when your in the shower like the girls bathroom does and not a little curtain. It was a good place if you were just staying for a couple days. Not something you want to be at for a week. The free breakfast was only a $2.50 voucher for eggs or $2.50 off your meal. We were looking forward to getting whatever we wanted but it turned out otherwise.

2019-03-26Save your money, don’t stay here. I felt like I was in a jail cell. Rooms had a harsh white light. And it was small and claustrophobic. The view is a police precinct. It was was also unbearably hot at times because the heater cannot he controlled from the guest room. Bathrooms and showers are shared and their one floor down if you’re on the 3rd floor. Never staying here again.

2020-07-29Some of the staff seem to think youre there for them not the workout. Staring at your behind when youre stretching. Trying to pick you up. Theres a reason I dont talk to some of them and they seem to get the idea Im a shy?one? Other than that the gym is good and never to crovded. Takes long time for changes to go through..like moving some of the equipment (ex further from the mirror so you can get the barbell out without worrying hitting it). I get it..its a hostel with a gym but still..if you get a good suggestion..
