Groove in other cities:
This would be a great spot if there weren’t so many hassles. 2 drink minimum which was ok until a waiter came up to our table after about 30 minutes to let us know we couldn’t sit without reservations. As we attempted to leave we were forced to buy another drink to satisfy the minimum, which ended up leading to other problems. Why would I pay for drinks if I can’t even sit. Honestly regret coming and spending my money here.
On Saturdays, this place has AMAZING live music, the Kyle Lacy band. No cover, but a 2 drink minimum. It was PACKED, but we had no trouble getting in once a few people left which was ~2 min wait outside. Had a blast and will definitely be coming back upon my next visit to NY! 🎶🎉✨
Good music, but overpriced drinks with light pours. The bartender was cold and unwelcoming, and they automatically apply a 20% gratuity by default. I typically tip more than that for good service, but the opaque pricing felt manipulative and slimy. Im not anxious to return.
The space is way too small and tight.... Everyone was bumping into each other and 6 times for the night we had to get up and allow others to pass by even while we were in the middle of dinner. I ordered salmon with asparagus and no asparagus came and I also ordered mash potatoes instead I got fries... Lol ... This place is not a good spot if youre trying to enjoy yourself especially during COVID
Like I said many times “What brings me back to a business is good customer service and hospitality.”So we walked into the Groove for dinner and drinks. After we found a table. We waited a few minutes to look at the menu before flagging down a busy waiter. He said he would be right back. We waited 15 minutes and he never came back. We were hungry and wanted to buy drinks. We were patient, waited a few more minutes and no one came. It was now 20 minutes later. So we flagged down a waitress. She was very kind and happy to help us with our order. She gave us good customer service and hospitality. Actually it was two different waitresses who gave us great service. I gave the second waitress a big tip. I wish I got her name but she was tall. And the short waitress was great to. Thank you for the great service. We had good time! ☺️
Hate to do this for an establishment going through a lot during the pandemic. I have been here many times whether its Groove or previous establishments.Date- April 13th Wed.Good - Bouncer at the front 5 stars.Host - Black male, 5 stars.Waiter - 4 Stars$$ - reasonable. NO COVER charge.Band - Base, Lead guitar, drums and Black female singer ( How will I know- Whitney) are 5 stars. Big up to the band who did a 90 minute set with out a break.Bad - Horrible sound system. Distortion all night.Sound engineering - No stars.Asian looking female singer may be 3 stars. Her mic wasnt working or she is just not good.Worst - Black male singer. Who was trying to do it too much and pitchy all night. We had videos of the band. I watched it again. Its horrible. I am not trying to be Simon Cowell here. I love good sound. I have a better sound system at home. I go to many places where they have local bands. Just walk down the block to Cafe Wha to listen their sound balance. These are easy fix. I will be back. Hopefully better next time.
Drinks for 15$ were really bad. Instead of Paloma’s grapefruit I’ve got cranberry juice. They didn’t have space inside so We were seating outside by the open window, listening live music and they said they need to close the window 5 mins after we set down, but it was the only reason we stopped by. So we said that. Nobody tried to solve that. Just left us outside like some random table. Never gonna come back.
Nice little surprise. Work around this area and wanted a grab to eat. Was tired of the same places and wanted a lunch special. Checked online and said it was closed, but was open for lunch. 15 dollar entree and a choice of beer or wine.food was amazing chicken sandwich worth the money. They have live music, outdoor sitting and a big area to sit with friends so give it a shot
Security asked me for my ID and vaccination card THREE TIMES. If they thought I was younger than 21, why didnt they just threaten to call the cops?!? Instead of making me wait 15 minutes just to be able to join my friends. I am actually 21, and this was massively annoying to deal with.Additionally, as I was leaving, I had to pay 5 dollars. I was in a party of 7. I had ordered a Cornona and my friends had ordered their own drinks but security said I had to pay $5 dollars just to leave, despite the fact that I was leaving earlier than my friends. There was one server (Im sorry I didnt catch his name) who made the night okay. Otherwise, go somewhere else if you and your friends are looking for fun or even a bathroom.
This is where my Fathers Day started. My son manages here; this was a gift from him(lord knows his mother and I needed a date night. Thx son!) The Groove and Cafe Wha? are owned by the same people, which makes for a great combo. The sidewalk seating reminded us of St. Martin, one of my favorite islands, and the food was superb! There was also great live entertainment, which rounded out the experience perfectly! A short walk down the block to the Cafe for the James Brown review made for a night of dinner and entertainment I thought were long gone. Heres a taste of what they offer...
Pre-pancetta, this place had a bomb happy hour with a great selection of food and drinks that would satisfy any twenty-something. However, for the prices, the cocktails are lacking a bit (Although not terrible/not reminding you of over-poured gin and tonics in plastic cups...)...Yet, the staff is very friendly and you can catch great Jazz performances or watch the Super Bowl here without breaking the bank! Very convenient to get to as well. A tight venue once its packed but never a bad time. Go. Impress your friends.Bonus... Some of thee freshest mozzarella sticks Ive ever had *stares in puzzlement*
The bouncer wouldn’t let me on because of my vaccination card- I’m from the UK. Man’s really tried to explain that I had the wrong ID for a triple Vaccer and insisted on going through my phone. As a text 21 year old the whole thing made me feel unbelievably uncomfortable and the bouncer who had never been to the uk insisting he knew better about the NHS was just stupid
The place had great vibes and the music was good. The placement of the stage made it hard to see the performers and for them to interact with people sitting inside. The wait staff all used an electronic system that allowed them to go to any table and get orders. This idea was good for getting drinks but we asked four different employees for waters for the whole table over the course of 30 minutes before finally getting them. The food was a little pricey for what you got.
One word...Fantastic.The black soul experience was unforgettable. This band will play at my fictional future wedding (if I have any say so lol). From the introduction groove to set the mood to the band leaders crowd work, this show makes for a great date night or even just a casual drinks and live music night. If you enjoy soulful classics, top Michael Jackson hits, One of the best Prince impressions Ive seen in all of my years, and a some pretty tasty drinks, Groove makes for a great summer night.Ill be back to enjoy more live music.
First of all who even promoted this Don guy as a manager. He is horrible at his job. I’ve been here a few times and I see how miserable his employees are. I observed his interactions with his employees and I see how he does not put in his part when it gets busy and stands there waiting for a reason to yell at them. I feel so sorry for his employees. I will not continue supporting a business where the management is cruel and harsh to their employees.
Definately not coming back. The band was great but could hardly hear them because we didn’t sit in front of them and the sound system was terrible. Our waitress took probably around 20-30 minutes to get us a check after she was asked three times for it. She was also asked for a straw two times and she never brought it. Tito hot chocolate ($16) was served in a paper coffee cup. Terrible service
Ive never left a review for any place before but I truly feel like I have to with this one. I stopped by the Groove during happy hr by myself to have a drink and to take a call outside where the live music wasn’t as loud and I was told by the bouncer and an employee that they don’t sit people who are by themselves. This felt extremely disrespectful and is a very stupid policy. So much for customer service.
The place looked nice with the band and everything. But I don’t know if it was too crowded or what but the service was awful. Our order took around 35min to arrive. After this time we never got napkins or silverware or even water for the table. When the food arrived it took them around 7 min to realize we had nothing to eat with. They tried to compensate with a round of drinks but our dinner was already ruined. Im sorry first time i post something like this but needed to be honest.
Love The Groove! My husband and I went many times to hear our fave funk musicians. My husband passed away a year and a half ago so I ventured out last night solo from Staten Is because The Push and Pull band were playing and I missed them last time they played in Bklyn. It seems its a problem being seated if youre a partay of ONE. Resy online wont allow a solo to make a reservation and when I arrived I pretty much had to beg to be seated. Once inside, it felt like the same comfy atmosphere I was used to. So thanks( I think), The Groove for letting me enjoy some Funk and have a delicious burger, fries and Fat Tires.BTW a previous Reviewer had the same issue being a solo visitor. Please rethink your policy...
My friend and I came here last night, we just wanted some drinks. We tried the frozen peach bellini & it was super tasty. We also ordered pretzel bites but we forgot to actually eat them. The place was nice, they had a live band performing & overall it was a good experience:)
Me and my friends went to this place last night, first time going there. We asked the waitress if they had happy hour, even though the menu said only until Thursday. Waitress said they did have happy hour. The food we ordered was good, however the drinks were terrible. My friend ordered piña colada and was totally green translucent drink, more like pineapple juice with alcohol. My sangria was watery and no fruit. These people definitely don’t know how to make cocktails. TI’m writing a bad review because we got charged full price for the drinks ($14-15 each) even though we asked before ordering if they had happy hour. The waitress said she couldn’t do anything about it. I asked her to please speak to the manager, but at the end she just came with bad tasting kamikazee shots to compensate for the huge difference in price. We felt totally robbed and lied to. Not coming back, not worth it. Terrible service, I asked for water twice and the waitress never brought water. Ahh but she wanted $35 tip! Thieves
Great place to have good food, great drink & listen to some incredible performers!Every night !Thank you Julian and everyone that works at the Groove. You all made us feel welcome ♥️The blacksoul experienceAll I can say is....Amazing!They Will have you up on your feet dancing and singing!Definitely a mustYou wont regret it!
The artist I play for, The Soulstress, has a residency here so the Groove is very special to me. They treat us like family and they will do the same for you.Starting with the ambiance, if youre looking for a relaxing place to eat and drink, the mid day to early evening hours are perfect for you. There is plenty of seating plus bar seats. If you are looking for live bands, then the evening hours will be your time. Including our band, this is one of the best places to hear real music in the city. (There can be a cover charge for bands - typically $10)The menu has the perfect balance of snacks and actual meals for whatever mood youre in. Paired with a fully stocked bar and you have all the perfect ingredients for an amazing evening. Personally I feel like the prices are fair so take it easy, lol.Simply put, add the Groove to your list of Must See locations and you wont regret it.
I went on a Saturday night at around 12 am. The man at the door said it ended at 2:30 but the website indicated that it closed at 4 am. The cover for the night was 10 dollars. Thankfully my best friend knew one of the waitresses so we were seated. It wouldn’t be as great of an experience if we had to stand the whole time we were there. The music and the band for the night was amazing ! Definitely an incredible experience. The band announced that they were going to play the last song of the night which the time was at 1 am. We only got to enjoy for an hour. The man in the front should’ve been more specific but thankfully the wonderful music for an hour made up for it. After one the band stopped performing. So just be mindful of the timing you go so that you get a full experience of the place. I suggest taking a cab, Uber, or lyft to the place because parking is terrible around that area.
Same great little spot, management has changed during the pandemic, Unfortunately the manager Don isnt the friendliest, organized and he is very sarcastic. I arrived at 7:30pm to secure a table for 1 for a 9pm show. He told me to come back at 8:30pm, when I returned I was then offered a table around the corner in a dark area off the street away from the live music. I told him I would wait for any table that would open at least near the music so I could see or hear the artist playing, all the waiters were so nice and professional and continually checked on me while I waited standing on the corner. After 20 minutes there was a table that opened, I was told it was a first come first served basis, so I walked over to the available table and no one else was waiting. I then overheard from directly behind me, the manager Don tell a female waitress that I had to get up because there was a group who made reservations after she herself said I could sit there. She cleaned the table and everything for me while I was sitting there. After he told me I couldnt make a reservation. Confusing. I then walked back to the corner and waited for another 10 minutes. Don then comes to me and says he has a table available. I finally get seated. And I asked if he was sure I could stay there, he said rudely Only until I change my mind, I sat down and waited for the waiter. Sheesh.
My husband and I popped in here on the last day of our visit and we loved it.Really good vibe and the staff were professional and attentive. Ashley was serving us and she was wonderful. My husband said his mojito was the best hes had! Will definitely visit again on our next trip.
Ritmosis is an amazing Afro-cuban band. Groove is a village milestone! Their happy hour prices are great, be careful though. There is a 7 PM cut off, and the prices differ drastically. Clean, great place to hang out. The only recommendation is to the owner: INVEST IN BETTER CHAIRS. They are so old and raggedy. Other than that, this is one of my favorite spots EVER.
The manager Jay of this establishments is completely unprofessional. My group and I made reservations for 9:30 pm and arrived a little before 9pm. We were told by the staff at the door to wait by the velvet ropes and we would be taken care of. There was a group in front of us standing on the line and after waiting for approximately 10 minutes we were told by a friend of ours to speak to the manager in which we proceeded to do. We politely explained that we made reservations and were waiting for service and he told us in a rude manner that we didnt have reservations anymore. We explained that we were told to wait by the velvet ropes and he said you never told me anything, sorry your reservations were up at 8:45. Instead of trying to help resolve the situation he dismissed us and was arrogant. After already spending a 10 dollar cover charge to get in, which equalled to 30 dollars for all 3 of us he treated us like crap. In addition when explaining this to our friend he stood by and heckled us stating oh yeah everything they say is true it is all my fault in a sarcastic manner. Again being rude and unprofessional. He also stated people just want to feel special. Treating paying customers in this manner is very rude, demeaning, and unprofessional. It leaves a bad impression and does not make me want to come back. I love the Groove and The Black Soul Experience band and have never had any experiences like this. I will never set foot in this place again and I would advise the same. Management should learn to treat their customers with respect and not overbook.
Passing by one night w SO and the manager happened to be outside and greeted us in. What a great decision that was. Great talent, reasonable drink prices, and the fries were sooo good! We stayed all night and had a great time. As others mentioned, it is a small space and things get crowded and LOUD! All in a good way.
We were there to see the Kennedy administration and the band was awesome!!! I gave 5 stars for the band. Hands down. The only downside was our waitress, Vanessa! She was the rudest waitress Ive ever met. She was not nice in the beginning. She asked for our order, etc. We ordered fish tacos and 2 glasses of white wine. We didnt really know what happened after that. She came back & asked what we want and we said were ok. I asked her for the check & she came back with the bill. She took a while to give me my credit card and bill because at some point, I just want to leave. She gave it to us and she literally came back and asked us to get up and leave because the table was reserved. So rude!!! Never met a waitress so rude. She shouldnt wait on paying customers if youre that rude. Please take a lesson on customer service, girl. You made our Grove experience not a pleasant one!!!
I visited here on a Friday night at around 11:30pm. It was very crowded when I walked in and the live band was already in action. The band was wonderful. This isnt a intimate spot. If you are looking for great live R&B/Soul music definitely stop by. Drinks can be pretty pricey depending on the time that you go.
This place was pretty awesome, I must say. Went on a triple date with my bf, my dad his gf nd my aunt and her bf. We ended up here by accident for brunch. But it worked out perfect. The place was empty. We arrived around 2 pm. Someone sweet helped up immediately. They had a $15 special, with tons of different meals to go with a beer or wine. I heard they usually have a live band but that must be a little later in the night. The drinks were nice. I had a chardonnay and that was the first time, it was a little dry but good. I would definitely recommend thia to a clique of friends or for a birthday celebration.
The club itself was very loud as it is expected. The room however was very tight being put 1 foot from the stage and in such an awkward position gave you a kink in your neck. I expected a little better position for a 10 dollar cover. The music was good and got better with the drinks :). I would recommend the place as long as you just ensure that you get there early to get a good seat.
I absolutely love The Groove. I have been coming here for many years. The Groove is like a magnet that keeps drawing you back. Two of my favorite groups are The Black Soul Experience & LiNards.Although I will say, all of the performers are great bringing their own flavor of funk, R&B & soul. The staff are friendly & the service is great.I highly recommend this place.
Geraldine... let me tell you. She was nothing short of amazing. First of all, there was a girl who waited on us and quit after 30 seconds(I promise it wasn’t anything I said) it was awkward from the start until Geraldine took over and saved the day ! She was funny, smart, and she exemplified customer service. Thank you Geraldine!!! If and when you come here, ask for her. Live R&B music, great food, and good service.
Saw this amazing band tonight! Linard was hilarious and all the male singers and musicians on stage were so talented. They sung all my fave old Skool RnB and Motown with a few funk hits. The food was good oh I loved the chocolate cake wow and the sound was perfect. Owner and security were lovely. It is free during the week. Paid on weekends. Nice crowd on a Thursday. Club isn’t a small like the others. I shall def be back!
I had dinner here tonight with my friend. Our server didn’t know the menu and what came with the food. We asked for sauce with our order and it didn’t come with the food. Then we asked the server again. Nothing. We asked the manager he said he would find out. He never even came back to the table. Then they added 2 drinks to our bill that we didn’t even have.... It was terrible service and the food was mediocre. Very disappointing
Have read other reviews about the man bun manager so clearly Im not the only one with a terrible experience.I was sat at the bar, waiting for the music to start (which by the way was incredibly good!), when I heard and saw this manager shouting at all the bar staff, telling them not to serve the band any more drinks (I had seen two people get served a glass of wine and bottle of water, not exactly a piss up!). Extremely awkward watching this as a customer, the staff were visibly embarrassed. He kept pacing around the venue nervously, every few minutes coming back to scream more at the waiters. I felt so sorry for them as theyd done nothing wrong. He came to stand near me so I asked if he was the manager, he very aggressively said he was. I told him it wasnt great to speak to his staff in the manner he did in front of customers or otherwise and wow, did I get abused for my comment!! He started yelling and pointing his finger at me, aggressively asking if Id ever ran a bar, calling me honey in a patronising manner, telling me to mind my own business.. I was absolutely revolted that an individual like him could be in charge of anything, let alone in a customer service position! Do the owners of the venue not care what sort of people they hire to run their business? I stayed for the music (and just to annoy him) but spent $0 after that.Ive seen a few complaints about this same manager and Im not surprised. Staff asked me to write a review so that something could be done - I hope they all find other jobs sooner rather than later and leave this ape (sorry, thats an insult to apes) to run the bar without any staff.Would never return which is a shame as the music was fab!
1) The wine list is not clearly identified with property name and year. You only pick a cheap varietal wine (grape type) which is unseen in any restaurant. It was changed since the last time I went to Groove in Nov. 2020.2) The alcohol pricing increased to minimum 14$ for both low quality wine or cocktail. We understand the impact of COVID-19 but the clients were also touched financially by the pandemic.3) At the end of an average service, our waitress forced a 20% tip directly (kindly pre-charged on my credit card) while we were only a table of 2. It feels unfair and pushy.4) When we enquired about this practice, Shana (waitress with glasses) ironically said its usual. Being a regular client since 2018 and a douzain visits to the establishment, I know its a total lie.5) Overall, the place was a Gem and became a tourist trap despite the quality of the musical program. Based on points #1 to #4, I will probably never be back.
This place is a joke. To start, this isnt my first bad experience with Groove. The first time happened a year ago and resulted in a quick exit (even after paying the cover charge). The most recent incident occurred after a family member brought us here to check out a band he knew. To be honest, the band was absolutely rockin for a Wednesday night. The issue was the fact that the owner or manager (whatever title he wants to call himself) had an issue with the band taking a break. The band had literally been playing for 3 hours and when they announced a break, the manager came out and openly told the band that if they took a break it would kill the mood and that their night would be over... fast forward only an hour more and the band came to an end (after being forced to continue). Not :30 seconds after the band said goodnight, the manager shoved his way through my party, aggressively telling us to move out of his way. We honestly could not believe how unprofessional this person was! Well it gets better... after openly calling the manager out for how rude he was and moving away from his area, he ended up coming back around to tell us to learn some manors before instructing his bouncer to kick us out (mind you 4/8 of us were over 50 yrs old). Ultimately we decided to remove ourselves from the situation. The bouncer was very cool/understanding and was only doing his job. I will never return to this establishment and will instead take my business westward to where the real Jazz music is played. Beware of the Man Bun manager.
I went to see my friend preform. Had the worst experience. After getting into the bar I ordered drinks took forever to get them. After getting them the club manger informed my friends and I that if we werent drinking we had to get out. All while we had drinks in our hands. After the performance the proceeded to throw out the tables of the people that had showed up to watch the show. This is the worst bar/concert venue Ive ever been to. If you have a choice dont go
The Black Soul Experience is the best show ever!!! My husband and I come to this spot every Labor Day weekend for the pre-parkway show!! And Antwon and Tracey have never disappointed us! Not only is it a live show but the duo are very engaging and always get the crowd hype. Its a great mix of funk, soul, r&b, and reggae dancehall. They always get the crowd ready for the Parkway the next day with a Palance set!! Its small yet quaint, but after the first song everybody is family and we all groove together. Dont pass this spot up, Friday and Sunday nights are a true lituation!
Loved every night I choose to come to this place when I’m feeling live jazz. Super convenient location with a great vibe, great lineups and MCs and good Old-Fashioneds. The place is very intimate and can get pretty crowded. You’re literally sitting on top of your neighbors so that’s the only minus.
The most terrible bar in New York. Bravely and irresponsible staff and even more - tactless manager. When I sat at the table with friends came waiter (with Asian eyes) and asked us that it was necessary to order each food of us, We told her that we were not hungry and we could just drink, but she still demanded that we all have personalized food. We had no other way and we ordered food. But in the meantime we realized that no one was eating in the bar and she only asked us to eat food. When the waiter brought the food I asked hem why I should eat the rubbish food when everybody was drinking only a drinks in the bar. I asked her to answer and when she understood that I was talking seriously she start to crying with the manager And she was lieng with a manager. But the most important thing is that the manager turned out to be the most insulting and irresponsible, low-class person. I do not know if anyone is interested in my post but I only want to say that; People, be careful in this bar !!!
Hated it. They tried to swindle myself and my s/o to paying gratuity for our party of 2 and another totally separate party of 4 (so to pay a gratuity for 6 people). The waitresses (who were awful to deal with when we first sat down) and manager (at least I assumed he was, I didnt get to find out his title) were totally unhelpful in solving the situation and made it very difficult for us to pay our share of what we had to drink (since we didnt eat there). Instead of just accepting what the case was, they argued relentlessly and then the manager (?) himself insulted my significant other & passed his behavior off as being professional. You dont have to be in a professional area of work or what have you, to know that his behavior was far from professional. The band that played however was great, so its such a shame to have such poor service but with such good acts. Wont be returning.
Dont go if you are Alien (tourist, unknown in the community)! They prefer non-alien customers even if you are spending as crazy. They ruined my New York vacation moving me from my table where I was enjoying the show, because staff get instructions from the manager to move us. Explanation was, sorry you have to move to another table because my manager told me to do that. There was no reservation for the table. We didnt ask to sit there, member of the staff show us the way and sit us there. We move, and we will never come back.Im suggesting you to think twice before you go there!BTW, they charged me 10$ per person on the entrance without explanation why, and of course I didnt get receipt for that ...
Ron and the Grooves were absolutely incredible to work with. Ron was flexible with our budget and song list, and was always very responsive. He would text/email with us or our coordinator immediately. We provided our recommended song list to the band a few weeks before the wedding, and he followed up with any questions. The whole process was seamless and very easy.During the wedding itself, a member of the band (Jessica Parke) sang during our ceremony and helped make it an unforgettable day. She learned songs for the event, and sang them beautifully. For the reception, the Grooves kept the atmosphere lively and energetic. I have never heard another band sing a rendition of Selenas Bidid Bidi Bom Bom so well.Ron and the Grooves helped make our wedding day to be a memory that we wont ever forget.
Im writing while at the Groove bar also. Ive been here with Kennedy Administration and Black Soul Experience, in two different days. This is my second. I am from Brazil. This bar has very gentle waiters and waitresses that often ask how you are doing.Plus, here you will see people of all types: romantic couples at the corner, dancey people at the stage, conversational groups grooving and talking at the same time...this place truly has soul, especially the bands who play here.I put my faith in this place even though I am from another country entirely!!
If you are looking for good funk, rnb or soul music live, Groove is a must! They have bands every night and really cant tell whos better. From simple cover bands to original artists you will unlikely find anything not to like about their music. Drink offers are decent and food menu is pretty much bar food oriented, but really delicious. Daily happy hour here! The only thing I didnt like is that place is pretty small and tends to get crowded fast. If youre ok with that, theres no reason not to give Groove a chance. Sometimes they will charge to enter, but price range is around $5.
Im almost scared to write a good review because this is a NYC gem I hold near and dear to my heart. The music, service, food, and drink quality has NEVER failed me. I was introduced to a Japanese jazz band at Groove. The floor space/standing room gets a little cramped on popular nights, but if you REALLY know how to cut a rug, you can make it work! I go back again and again!
Im having a BALL! Yes Im writing ths review while Im still in the Groove. BlackSoul Experience is must see! Soulful, energetic, true entertainers. A great crowd that represented the NYC blended culture. The Groove provided an intimate atmosphere and The BlackSoul Experience gave just that -a soulful experience!! Oh, the food was good and affordable.
I went to the Groove for the first time last night and had the pleasure to experience a band called The Kennedy Administration. Mmmm mmm mmm... the trumpet player is absolutely amazing and she can scat with the best of them. Her voice is woooo, Trombone player was absolutely stunning and you could feel it in your veins. Keyboard player is sensational! The electric guitar player makes that thing sing. Lord have mercy the base player and drummer and amazing lead singer! They sang a meddley of familiar songs like lets stay together and others that the bands flavor enhanced. Tonight was the first time this group played together and they are ones to watch. Yes, they will be back next Wednesday!! The Groove gets everyone in the groove, trust me!
This use to be my hot spot, I had return here to see how it was now and I must say I was disappointed, the service was crappy, the bartender took forever to get us our drink even though we were right next to her, she act like as if we werent even there, and the tables and chairs felt like as if they were about to fall part, we were scared to even sit cause the seating were so loose and swaying side to side. I use to love this place and at one time it had great bartenders but now it just a regular pub to me, they still have live band but the atmosphere is not there anymore, great bar tending no longer exist in this place. Such a shame.
It was an excellent experience as the intention was to go to Cafe Wha where I had been couple of times, however being labour day Cafe Wha was closed and discovered this place with awesome music on the Monday. Not sure about other days. Excellent service warm and friendly staff and great happy hours.

2022-05-08We went on a Saturday around 6pm. Street parking after 6 is free so that was a bonus! The place is small but quaint enough as it got busier closer to 7. Food and drinks were delicious. I had the chicken Alfredo and mango martini. The do include 20% gratuity in the check. Drinks were about $14-16 on average. Bill for 2 entrees and 4 drinks was about $150. Classic new York prices! The 2 bands they had were very nice as well. Only 2 single bathrooms down the narrow stairs. Our servers were friendly and attentive as well. The card you at the door.

2022-04-10The place might be small but don’t let that fool. I was there like 2 weeks ago. The band was great! Great ambiance and vibe. Servers are nice. Since it gets so crowded due to the small place, you might have to make a line to get in even if you people inside already with a table. Just in case, probably obvious but you have to keep consuming in order to keep a table. In overall a great fun place, definitely coming back.

2022-02-21I cant believe I spent so many years in NYC and never heard about Groove. My first experience was with Ricky Stein on set and it was almost magical. The food was great and the drinks were just the kind youd want while listening to some awesome live music. 10/10 would visit and recommend. they offer live music 7 nights a week, who says no to that?!

2022-05-15The Groove was groovy as usual! We stopped by during happy hour for a couple of drinks and to chill. Since we arrived around 5 pm the place wasnt packed yet. It gets packed after 6-6:30 pm when people start coming in for the show which usually starts at 7:00 pm. While there we listened to an upcoming artist who was very good. The bartender was very accommodating. Great atmosphere!

2022-03-09I loved the place, is really nice. Tables are really close one to other so if you are looking for privacy, maybe this is not the place, even though I noticed there were couples having fun. I went with my sister on a Friday almost at 7pm and there was available tables, however two hours later there was a huge line outside to get in. To order food and drinks, they hold your credit card until you ask for the bill and pay (my sister is from Canada and I am from Argentina, and this was really new for us, and therefore uncomfortable), the service was OK but could be better..

2022-03-23Purchased tickets ahead of time online.Got to the show late, but still got a nice table right up front. Staff was nice, and stage and sound were also up to par.

2022-02-27The Kyle Lacy band was the bomb! The big e was amazing and even though the standing room only felt like a mosh pit, we still loved it. No cover but a two drink minimum worked better than a $25 cover charge too. The crowd was super friendly and the drinks were good.

2022-06-04I decided to take in some live music on Friday especially since I knew this i was my weekend to work at the hospital. I made a reservation.travelled there from the North Bronx. I got there and was waiting and waiting to be seated . Another woman was doing the same as others was being seated. Finally she asked what the issue was.it turns out they have a policy that if you are alone you have to stand at the bar even if you have a reservation. Who would have thought especially since I went in the fall by myself and was seated .Moral of the story: if traveling solo don’t waste your time or at least know before go you will be standing.

2022-02-21Pros :Great place if you enjoy live music, and the time to go is on Fridays for Antwon and the Black Soul experience. They play R&B jams and the band is talented. The food is reasonably priced and the portions are average.Cons: Place is very small and be ready to sit next to a complete stranger, so forget about sitting next to your date. Drinks can also be weak and not a place you go to if you want engaging conversation with your date, unless you go with 4 people and rearrange your own seating.Still, not a bad place, but definitely would not go on any day other than frisky Friday to make it worth while.Average spent :$110 for 2 mains, 2 drinks, and an appetizer
