Ground Central Coffee Company in other cities:
Ground Central is a rare Oasis. I think it is a great place to meet someone in a venue which doesnt look, feel and act like your standard fare, cookie cutter, chain coffee shop. It has a great deal of old style charm with a comfortable reading room in the back, complete with library of books and comfortable chairs and seating. There are also smaller tables in the front to provide a good amount of comfortable seating and a hip and modern looking decor and oozing charm and ambiance. I enjoyed my mocha coffee, which was quite rich. Other small muffins and scones are also available.
As a “pseudo coffee drinker,” I really enjoyed my latte here. The baristas don’t put lids on the coffee so you can see the cute latte hearts and save plastic. The milk foam was not too airy or too dense and the coffee tasted good. We noticed what looked like a nifty additional water filtration system. The environment is nice and there is seating. The staff were nice and really tried to spell our names correctly on the coffee cups. There are many snack options.
Ground Central is one of the best cafes Ive been to anywhere. The design of the bar is unique and interesting, the coffee is outstanding and the service was great and full of fun. The staff here all appear to enjoy their work and have fun being a part of their customers days.
I’ve been to this Midtown East location a few times but on my last visit the staff was incredibly rude and outlandishly disrespectful. I was shocked, so were other customers. There’s a cafe grumpy and a blue bottle coffee a few blocks south, I’d rather go to any of those. The coffee isn’t good enough and the bathrooms not clean enough to deal with the crazy staff here!
I got a flat white and an iced latte. Their coffee is worth the money. I wont say its super exceptional, but its not an average coffee either. I would give them the honor of one of the best coffee places in new york. But the sizs of their small hot cup was very small. Other coffee places has bigger sizes.Their interior stands out among any other coffee shops. Its a dark themed place with comfortable sofas and lots and LOTS of books. A lot of people come here to hangout, talk or do their work.
This is a really cute little coffee shop in Midtown. The vibe here is a cross between Central perk and friends, and a bar. They even serve alcohol here as well. Towards the back of the restaurant, there’s a cute little seating area with lots of little couches and tables among a dark library setting.
Go here everyday to get my coffee but today the lady looked at me uncertainly as she gave me this sad grey looking piece of loaf cake, the new loaf behind that was brown and sitting just behind this one, this piece was obviously some display piece that had been sitting there for days, you know when bread forms that hard crusty horrible layer on the outside, that is whay I paid $4 nearly $5 for. If food isnt good to sell, dont sell it to people. Ill make my way to starbucks across the st from now on.
This is by far the best coffee spot I have ever been to!It is a nice, cozy spot right in the heart of Manhattan. It almost feels like a speakeasy; vibrant and upbeat in the front with a quiet, peaceful space inside for some reading and getting work done. One could hang out for hours. The best part about this coffee location is their manager, Irene and star Barista, Fitz. They are so warm and welcoming. They even tend to recognize and greet regular customers although their faces are covered with masks!Despite being so busy serving guests, Irene and Fitz put in so much dedication and passion in every cup of coffee without rushing. They even makes it a point at add her crafty personal touch of latte art; so enchanting! They are always open to feedback and ideas to goes above and beyond to satisfy every customers request. It is very commendable and heart touching, I highly recommend this coffee spot!
Rustic/cozy styled cafe with space to bring your laptop. Coffee is mediocre (mass market) and service is ok. If you’re in midtown, this is probably the best it gets in terms of “sit down and work with a coffee” that isn’t Starbucks. If you just want a good coffee, there are better spots in midtown.
Efficient service (11am on a Tuesday), though the attitude was a bit... strange. Good-quality drip coffee, made well, not too strong. I love the back room with its wall of books. [Side note: the word is “prosecco”, a term referring to a sparkling wine from Italy, not the Liore (France). Guessing that they meant “Loire”, which is a wine region west of Paris, as the menu also lists “Sancerre” and “Muscadet”, both of which are white wines specifically from the Loire Valley wine region of France.]
Coffee was good but I’m giving it three stars for a couple of reasons: music is a little too loud which makes it seem more like a bar than a café and the female barista was talking so loud ruining the atmosphere of the coffee shop.Venture inside and there’s a good nook for hanging out or chatting but I found it too dark for reading a book. But working with laptop is fine. There’s wifi.
Great Lattes, fast service, rude baristas. The back area of indoor seating is almost like a personal library, with comfy sofas, and book shelves, it is dimly lit and quiet. In fact, you can sit there and listen to the obnoxious baristas making rude comments/smack talking customers. I came here about 6 times before I figured out there was a card for frequent customers...no one ever mentioned it. The other good barista is the one who aggressively taps to the tip screen and says “ do this first!” Plenty of other coffee shops with nice employees and better customer service. Pro Tip: Find another coffee shop!
Always looking for a spot to post up to work since WFH over the year. If youre looking for the same, the wifi is very poor its unfeasible to work and especially not worth the exchange for over priced coffee / bad food. Its also very dark, limited outlets and the people arent friendly. Not to mention the music is obnoxious and loud. Im unsure the vibe they are trying to cultivate.
One of my favorite coffee places to go. It has a mix of cozy/modern vibes because of the warm lights and a nice, cozy library-vibe study area in the back. However, the music does get a bit loud and they play a lot of hip-hop music which I love - it just can get a little loud when you’re trying to study. The area in the back is also pretty full; I’ve never had a chance to study in that area. Overall though one of my favorite cafe places to go to.
I came here to have a nice coffee while reading. I thought the environment would be good for that since there is a room in the back with cozy seating, relaxing lighting, and shelves full of books. However, one of the employees was sooo loud the entire time and had absolutely no filter, which seems more appropriate for a casual bar setting, not a coffee shop. No matter where I sat in the coffee shop, I could hear everything she said, including all of her personal business. Just dont come here and expect to be able to focus easily on anything. Also, they told me all the food on the menu, except the food on display, was sold out.. On a positive note, the drink I ordered was delicious!😊
Great place to stop for coffee! Great location near the subway. Fun atmosphere with little back nook that we loved. We loved their lattes and found the prices to be very reasonable. Coffee had great taste and the drinks were perfectly sweet and smooth. After our first visit we ended up coming every day we were visiting! Only complaint was from our kids who werent fans of the bitter/dark chocolate used for hot cocoa.
Very nice place considering the location. I was visiting and trying to find a coffee shop that wasnt Starbucks. This place felt like a speakeasy for coffee—super cozy, dimly lit, a lounge/study in the back with Victorian decor. Ive never been to Harvard but it seems like this place would exist there. I had the cold brew which was fine in the way that coffee is just coffee regardless of where you get it or how much it costs.
Great coffee shop with plenty of seating. Has a neat library-esque room in the back perfect for long conversations. The front of the place can get a bit loud with the music, so may not be the best place to get work done, though many are on their laptops. Cold brew is nice and strong.
You can always tell the quality of coffee by the coffee aroma entering a cafe. Ground Central has that aroma. If coffee is not your thing they have a nice selection of tea and wine. Yup wine and good wine too. Delicious pastries are available and everyone behind the counter is friendly. They always have good music playing on their vintage stereo, a Mcintosh receiver and what looks like Klipsch. The lounge in the back is cozy with plenty of seats.
I love this place! Its a nice cozy but chic vibe with a dark, library-esque seating area in the back and a more social seating area in the front. The drinks and pastries are also very good. Great spot in midtown that feels more downtown than office esque. The music does get quite loud.
Awesome coffee shop in midtown east. The couches in the back are great place to escape work for a while. The place does get busy around lunch time and right before work, but the staff are real pros and can knock your order out pretty quick. A very nice selection of fresh pastries and sandwiches too
Honestly the best coffee shop not just in midtown but in the whole NYC. I’ve been there only couple of times but they already knew my name , my drink and made me feel very special . And Yulia made me the best oat latte I’ve ever triedWill be coming back every day from now on , maybe even twice a day !
Great coffee, but who likes to have their credit/debit card ripped out of their hand when you go to pay and have it aggressively flipped back to you? Just so the employee can go back to crossing their arms and leaning back to the counter? Better service and way better coffee in the area.
Disappointing.. I walked several blocks to get here to find the place hot and the air stale with a hit of old cleaners. The Airconditioner could not have been on and after walking in the Summer heat this was not welcoming for a hot cup of coffee... I walked all the way back thinking maybe it was different back there... but no! I came here years ago and thought this was the best coffee shop I’d visited. Bummer... it wasn’t today it was 2 weeks ago that I stopped by. I’ll give it another try next time I’m in the city. It was a hot day when I came.
I went there, for the first time, to meet with a friend. What a hidden gem! Adventure to the back and youll feel like youve entered a charming living room, furnished with couches and lounge chairs for comfort. Great for studying or meeting up with friends. The noise level was surpsingly moderate...was able to carry on my conversation with ease.
I love this place! I love this place! I love this place! The ambiance is literally writing heaven. I can literally spend hours here and not get tired of it. It can get crowded at lunch time and right around 5 or 6pm. However it is worth the wait! There are comfy couches, ottomans, and chairs. And books galore! Plus they have good, strong coffee too.
Nice mix of cozy and industrial design aesthetics. Has warm touches like tucked away lounge area in the back with bookshelves but also an efficient main floor that has become the norm in the city, particularly near high flow areas. My favorite individual touch here is definitely the generous and rather unique lounge. It has a private feel compared to the front half and is the perfect spot to have a conversation or read a good book. All the seats Ive been in are comfortable, which in this city is rare! There are even love seats to cozy up with your significant other.I discovered this through the Cups app and you can use code yyskl to have $10 to spend here with no other obligation, which I appreciated. My tip with the app is to make sure the item you want is listed the same way. Its even local (Brooklyn) made from what I could tell.
Been here a handful of times and was super stoked to have found a coffee spot that isn’t Starbucks, however, the past few times I’ve stopped in they have not been open at the scheduled opening time. I have a small window of time in the morning and have been completely disappointed that GC has not been open at the scheduled time of 6:30, this morning I was let in at 6:45, if you open later- say it on your schedule. Last week there were 3 people waiting for the GC to open and this week it was myself and another patron. When I entered I ordered first but was served second, and was served a scalding hot latte that was burnt and sour tasting. The workers were also extremely unfriendly and my good mornings were met with stone cold faces. I get it- I’m unfortunately a morning person and have worked many years in service jobs and typically roll my eyes at customer posts like this however I do know these get read and hope these issues work themselves out.
Its got a really nice vibe. Its a great place to hang out and do some computer work, or have a chat with some friends. The back room is filled with couches and chairs which are comfortable. It has a nice ambiance, and its rather easy to settle in and forget where you are while youre ensconced in your work.
I went here about 2 days ago. I ordered the cappuccino. It was great. My only issue is the fact that the management (I hope she is the manager) is VERY RUDE. When i ordered this Russian or German woman was rude to me and my coworker while we ordered. Her attitude is very poor and she shouldnt act that since she is representing the company. I can only imagine how she treats her employees. Wont be going back because of that.
I am somewhat of a regular of the establishment so obviously I love it. Although their prices are somewhat high, they run many promotions and this establishment is a local chain (not like Starbucks or Dunkin Donuts) so you know you are supporting local businesses. There are many specialty coffees and teas as well (you dont have to like coffee to enjoy this place!).In addition, they have a loyalty card scheme in which for every $50 you spend on beverages you receive $5 in Ground Central money. Thus in practice you are receiving a 10% discount as a member, although they dont give free or discounted refills. Also, there is usually a long line in the early afternoon during the workweek, as many people work in this area, so arrive before or after the early afternoon rush. There is wireless Internet access here and it is pretty fast (at least 10 megabits/second while downloading and 5 megabits/second while uploading, but that is in the evening). There are some power sockets in the front but I didnt see any in the back.If you have time on your hands, there is a great lounge in the back with a lot of books to read. Popular hangout/meetup spot as well.A somewhat pricey but laid-back alternative to the large chain coffee shops.Drinks are worth every penny! Too bad I have only had the regular hot/iced coffees but next time I am here Ill try a new drink.
I wanted a good coffee and tea house with a library in it, and Ground Central Coffee did not disappoint. The employee who took my order was energetic and answered all my questions about the teas. The lighting, layout, furniture, and color scheme are all perfect for chatting with a friend or getting some work done, and the library is wheelchair accessible.
Cool hidden coffeeshop on the east side. It was super busy at 3 PM on Friday but was able to snag two seats. If you go all the way to the back there are sofa and big comfy chairs. Id go back to do some afternoon work, reading or peoplewatching! Got an ice tea and it was great.
Ground Central Coffee is a new coffee shop in the midtown east area of Manhattan. They have a cheerful, hipstery vibe about them. The coffee shop itself is quite large, plenty of seating up at the front, along the wall, and the back of the shop which is setup like cozy library. The coffee is nice and strong, pastries are good but on the pricier side which include croissants and muffins. This shop should have a rewards card for frequent customers like many of its competitors in the area.
Update - owner was apologetic and promptly investigated and followed up on the issues outlined below.Original review:Staff is not aware of allergens!I went to ground central with a friend, who ordered and oatmeal cookie. He has a life-threatening peanut allergy, and asked the barista if there were any peanuts in the cookie, they said no.A few minutes later, he felt some slight symptoms and went back to the staff to verify. All 3 staff members confirmed they were absolutely sure there were no traces of peanuts. We left the store, and within 20 min, he was in the middle of a severe allergic reaction.Given how many people there are with peanut allergies, it is shocking to me that the staff here are unaware of the presence of peanuts in the food they serve.Another note is that they serve a very limited coffee menu (no espresso drinks) within 30 min of closing.
Great little coffee shop in midtown with a nice laid back ambience. Make sure to grab a seat in the back on the couch or a fluffy chair.Good for relaxing, meeting friends, or having a coffee date.I tried the Chai Tea Latte and it was very delicious :)I would definitely return!
Been going here since it first opened, beautiful coffee shop with awesome coffee and pastries but my one and only gripe is as of recently the music has changed and is super loud and mainstream pop focused. Not really fitting for the dark classic decor and super distracting at points. So when and if that changes I may give them back that last star but for now its 4.
We went for a quick bite and coffee with our 3 year old. Sweet barista acknowledged her and gave her a tiny muffin for her baby doll. The raspberry jelly doughnuts are amazing. We went back for more and we went there again the next day. This was our first time to visits NYC and this is the kind of place we were looking for!
Very good coffee! For example, they dont have small, medium and large cappuccino, they have only one size with right proportion of espresso and milk, that makes a good taste! If you need large cappuccino, you get latte, which is its actual name, but in Starbucks they still call it Grande Cappuccino...
Great little coffee shop in midtown east. Providing Columbe coffee the baristas here offer up great coffee drinks and fresh pastries. A few tables but you can easily sit here and relax with a cup of brew. Convenient to the main grand central terminal hub. Nice stop for your morning cup or afternoon break.
A cozy little spot in Midtown with nice sandwiches and juices with pricing thats not bad for the neighborhood. Its got some comfy seating in the back of youre lucky enough to nab a spot. Like a lot of coffee chains in Manhattan the clientele is hipper than thou (with a two-Apple-device minimum), but thats unavoidable and not that big of a deal. What is a big deal for me is the music. Its loud and obnoxious, mostly millennial muzak. If I could Id give this place a 3.5 for that.
This is an ideal coffee shop if you want to get some work done or grab a coffee with someone. The back of the shop is stylized as a library room where you can focus on getting some heads down work done. The front is the set up as a standard coffee shop setting and is a good setting to meet up with someone.
If you want to come to a cavernous coffee shops in the middle of already opressive mid-town, you found your spot. The back is actually cozy but, the music they have is just loud enough to kill the reading vibe.Granted, its a cafe not a study room BUT! If your decore adn vube are setup as such, at least keep the music at a considerate volume. I honestly dont know how people can work or study in this spot.
If youre looking for a new option to get your caffeine fix in Midtown East - this is the place to go.With friendly baristas and a welcoming atmosphere - this is the perfect place to escape from the office for 20 minutes. Not only do they have a great coffee offering - they serve beer & wine at night in the cozy lounge in the back.A+ new coffee location in the neighborhood!
Ground Central is a fine discovery for students and professionals who are looking for a quiet intimate cafe in this busy neighborhood, the setting somewhat between Starbucks and a library. We arrived quite late, an hour before closing on Thursday. The staff was exceptionally friendly and patient, waiting while my friend and I browsed the menu for a considerable amount of time unintentionally testing the baristas patience. The barista was not in any way displeased and once we order the drinks- chamomile and earl grey tea, they were ready within seconds. We grabbed our drinks and went straight to the back room where a couch, lounge and accent chairs, and tables were scattered throughout. The room, dimly lit, was smaller than it looks in the pictures, but thankfully there were 2 open seats for us. Note a ramp is available for the disabled to wheel into the room. This is a great place to chill and have an intimate one-on-one conversation for hours which we did until the barista came sweeping the floor near us. We were so immersed in our conversation we did not notice we were the only ones left in the room. On our way out, the barista politely said they closed 20 minutes ago. TOO nice!
Seriously delicious coffee, with the best chocolate chip cookies. Located in a really corporate area with a hipster vibe. The barristas there actually know about coffee, and Ive gotten latte art on numerous occasions so its a nice touch. In an area with a bunch of good cafés like Grumpys I think they are the best.
Double espresso came out wonderful. And servers were great. In the back they have a comfy yet classy lounge that complimented the experience nicley. However, the music playing was classic Red Hot Chili Peppers which is always a crowd pleaser. Ovreally grest spot. I even left a tip for them.
It was a four before, now it’s a solid three: cappuccinos and macchiatos both have just steamed milk, no foam. The change is due to the baristas - one slightly newer one, who does not care, the other is the old one, but now more often happens to attempt to make the foam (previously mainly manned the cashier spot).Otherwise, espresso is decent, of the Northern Italian variety.
I found this coffee shop up the road the morning after I stayed at the Pod 51 hotel. It has a great vibe, the coffee was great the morning I had it, and I loved the library room to sit down and do some reading and figure out the logistics of the rest of my day in New York!
I was in the city and had some work come up and this was the perfect place to sit down plug up and get it done. They dimmed the lights which was a awesome touch there are outlets everywhere and a table for you sit down with your laptop. There is also a lounge with couches and comfy seats also outfitted with with outlets all over the room. I did purchase a iced green tea they dont sweeten it upon request they direct you to the station with the cream and sugar but I could not find the simple sugar. I asked mutiple times where was it located and where they said it was it wasnt there but they didnt even attempt to come and assist me they just ignored me. I settled for some honey which didnt dissolve well in the iced tea. I also ordered a walnut banana bread which was pretty hard.
Terrible service and not safe for women alone with children. Mysogonistic atmosphere with male barristas throwing predator vibe over ladies. The owner was not really interested in hearing me about how the male barista had behaved inappropriately and gotten into my personal space. After the incident we attempted to stay and finish drink, when the same male barrista gathered with his co-workers and spoke about the incident right by my table. SKIP THIS PLACE. one of the female bartenders actually made a negative shaming comments about my son when I tried to defend myself. DO NOT BRING A CHILD HERE. Terrible blaring mysogynistc rap music.
I come to this place for the writing atmosphere. The back lounge area is dark enough to allow you to focus but just bright enough to keep you alert. The food and beverages are good the major con is that they have a serious fly problem. Every time Ive been here I find myself always swatting flies.
Well since i work here i really cant comment ...can i?..lol...all i know is that before working here...thats all i wanted to do...and now that i work here and have been for the past four years, its made me the fast efficient mam i am today...love my boss love everyone here...we are family and treat all our customers like so.Thanks guys.P.s. if u have some free time in ur day..or in a rush for a bussiness meeting..feel free to stop in..were looking forward to you. :)
Horribly rude counter staff. While we waited on line to order the woman working there asked our legally blind coworker to get up from the table and order something or leave. She got up and joined us on line and the same woman than accused her of cutting in line and wouldnt take her order. SKIP THIS PLACE.

2022-05-15This place makes delicious coffee and has super chill vibes. I had the espresso to go. But I did see they had the cosiest library style room on the back where you could sit and enjoy your coffee. Highly recommend you check it out.

2022-06-25Got latte and cold brew , both with oat milk.Latte was ok.I would not recommend cold brew here . Cold brew tasted super sour and harsh, and somehow the oat milk is curdled in my cold brew.Plus Poor service!!!Personally, I wouldn’t go back there ever again!

2022-06-16I ordered a chai hot a latte with almond milk, 30℅ drip coffee and kids temperature, and the chocolate croissant. It was better than Starbucks. I highly recommend it. The atmosphere was excellent, with dimmed lights and r&b music and a nice hang-out place.

2022-02-17Big space with seating compared to most coffeeshops in the city. Really cute and cozy space in the back. However, the music is really loud for a place to work so would recommend bringing noise cancelling headphones

2021-04-26Their espresso was super rich, reminiscent of chocolate. We went before hitting up MOMA, great way to start the day and it wasn’t crowded at all. Their back room is super cute with all the books, but I wish they had an outdoor setup!

2022-04-21Service was reprehensible.Extremely disappointed, my husband was looking for a great cup of coffee with a muffin this morning, read about ground central. The female server - Oleg F??? Mumbled pound enough that she can’t take this today . I asked her what was wrong, she then never gave me my muffin and coffee was cold for $4.9! Stay away when she is there, she doesn’t want customers
