I absolutely cannot even begin to say enough great things about the staff at Guardian - we were referred to them by our regular vet when they discovered a tumor that was bleeding on our beloved dog’s spleen. The staff literally ran as fast as they could out to my car and carried my dog into the hospital immediately - they are caring and compassionate, communicate extremely well and helped me stay calm during one of the toughest moments of my life. Our dog is like our baby and they took the best care of him, they saved his life! 10/10 highly recommend! Cannot thank them enough for everything they did for us!
The staff was so great. Having a kitten that wasnt acting right was a bit nerve racking and everyone that we dealt with were wonderful. It was nice that the doctor didnt push expensive procedures. It was nice being given options and not necessarily rush into expensive tests that could have stressed our kitten out. I know that not all situations have can have a wait and see approach, but it was nice to be given the option in our situation. While we hope we dont have to come back for emergency care, knowing that theres a place with such awesome staff like this is very reassuring.
Although pricy, Guardian saved my dogs life. They diagnosed what was originally thought to be heart failure and found it to be treatable IBD and ulcer. With appropriate meds, he is on his way to recovery. The nurses were exceptionally kind and caring to him, making me feel comfortable he was in the right place.
Guardian Vet is a well organized, very efficient place to go when you need.. Everyone was helpful though very busy, and friendly. Dr. Berg took his time to answer all of my questions. He has a great manner. Unfortunately I went there and my dog was diagnosed with cancer. But coming from New York City this vet was a welcome experience. Very calm and large facility. I would definitely recommend. The only downside is that its very expensive and they make you pay upfront I suppose just in case you stiff them. But I would happily pay to know that my pet was taken care of
The entire staff was first class. Dr. S. Ursitti was compassionate and direct about my dogs condition. She explained everything in a way my husband and I were easily able to understand, including our options for treatment and Fords chance of survival. I cant thank her and the entire staff enough for the professional and kind way they handled our situation and the honest and direct way the staff and Dr. Ursitti did their jobs.
I drove a little over an hour to come here for the first time today for a consult to see if my dog required surgery. Dr. Hart examined my dog, looked at his records and x rays and determined that my dog did not need surgery at this time. He took his time with my dog and I, and thoroughly explained everything he saw and what my options were. He was so honest and kind, and I instantly had trust in him. He made me feel like my dog was in good hands. I couldn’t have asked for a better visit! I will definitely be back for future check ups and needs here! Thank you guys!!
Really phenomenal job with my 13 yr old border collie. He was super weak and had internal bleeding from a softball-sized growth on his spleen, and they were able to do emergency surgery to remove it and clean everything up. One week later and hes practically bouncing off the walls hes got so much energy. Now hes just upset we wont let him out to play (for atleast the next couple weeks until the incision heals). Absolutely unbelievable turnaround for him... so incredibly thankful to Dr. Runge and everyone there for everything theyve done, super professional and thorough work all around, and showed my dog nothing but love his entire stay. Literally every single person I interacted with at this place was lovely. Would highly highly recommend! ❤️❤️❤️😊🐶
My dog was having trouble walking, and was not able to bear weight on one leg. We decided to take him into Guardian Urgent Care to see what was going on, as his regular vet was not open. After getting to Guardian, we were told to wait in the car for a while, and not long after we’re taken to a room for evaluation. They took our dog to the back while we waited in the room. The doctor came in about 15 minutes later, stating that more tests would need to be done to further evaluate the injury. She stated it was a neurological condition and suggested he stay overnight because she wanted him to see a neurologist as well as an orthopedist. They then quoted us for $6000 upfront, with no guarantees that they would be able to figure the issue out.We decided to wait it out to see our vet in the morning, but were forced to sign a waiver stating that we had declined care from Guardian. They charged us $200 for their “evaluation” and sent us on our way.The next day we took our dog to his regular vet, after a brief evaluation, a little walking and some feeling of his leg by the doctor, they determined he had sprained his knee.Guardian is clearly a for profit establishment, it is rather disturbing that they were suggesting us spending $6000 upfront, as well as putting our dog under to have multiple tests done before even suggesting it could be something less severe. The other option given of course was to put the dog down due to his quality of life, clearly anyone with a heart would not have made such an impulsive decision, so the fact that it was even suggested was rather odd.Just be careful, obviously there are pretty clear cut instances, like a break or accident that need immediate attention. But for anyone looking for real help, stick with your normal vet.
Wonderful appreciation of my dogs condition. Traveled from out of state because I was unable to make an appointment for my dog locally. The team here realized the significance of her diagnosis and made arrangements for an appointment as soon as possible. The ophthalmology department took great care of our dog and helped her get to a point of comfort as soon as possible due to her condition. Would highly recommend Dr Tofflemire!
We brought our fur baby there in 11/19 as an emergency visit suggested by our vet. They diagnosed him with what they believed was poisoning. My vet did not like this diagnosis from the start. I tried so hard to like this facility. The ER doc was so nice. He was not getting better and he needed to be seen again. I put in multiple calls over and over with never a call back. My vet did also. Finally, I had to back to get more meds and I was able to talk to a critical Dr. He believed our dog was misdiagnosed and said he should come back. My vet finally got a hold of someone the next day (Monday) that doc said to come back tues or wed to be reevaluated. I called Tues and no appts available and the person that could squeeze me in I had to leave a message. No call back. I called Wed and Friday morning. Still couldnt get me in. Well, my dog passed Friday afternoon (yesterday). I called to speak to a supervisor but she was in a meeting and would call me back. Still nothing. The lack of communication is totally unprofessional. My vet was livid.
If you can wait to take your puppy to a regular vet please do. We took my puppy in for an emergency evaluation because he was having trouble walking. We were there for almost 3 hours before they finally took him in. We were okay with the wait because we thought they would help but they could not even properly diagnose him. He waited in pain and was taken to the back after hours of waiting. They called us in to talk about what had happen and the doctor was very rude to us and insinuated that we hurt him somehow. We kept telling her that we were not sure what had happened but he was not able to walk. She kept scolding us for a while when we had done nothing wrong. She made my 16 yr old sister almost cry and my mom and I very upset. The doctor said that our puppy had leg pain and possibly a broken leg but would need us to pay over 1000 for X-rays. We asked if there was anything he could take for the pain and they said no.A nice nurse gave us the option of taking him to another vet to get more affordable services and we really appreciate her. They then charged us 200 dollars for a misdiagnosis. We took him to another vet for X-rays the next day. They told us he did not need any X-rays and that the actual reason he was unable to walk was because he had an abscess not a broken leg. They were able to diagnose him in less that 10 minutes after properly checking him and drained his abscess. They also cleaned him, gave him fluid injections and prescribed him pain medication and antibiotics. They charged us 200 for all these services and my puppy feels a lot better now.I will never be back to a place like this. We feel very upset about how the doctor spoke to us and her misdiagnosis. We would like to thank the nurses as they were nothing but kind. If it’s not a desperate emergency I would just stick with a regular vet.
Everyone was really nice and helpful, you guys got my cat back right away when I thought he was blocked and started assessing him immediately, when he wasnt blocked my concerns were heard and we came up with a treatment plan for him. Overall, a really positive experience. How quickly my cat was assessed from the moment I called to when I walked in the door, Serena was lovely and immediately took him to the back to get checked out and brought me to a room to wait for him.
The staff and veterinarian were absolutely amazing. Very knowledgeable and kind. They helped me to calm my nerves and understand what is going on with my dog. They helped me to plan for potential next steps in treatment and made me feel like my furbaby was in good hands. My only issue was that they were very far from me and it was stressful to drive an hour there and an hour back home during an emergency but that is only based on my specific location.
Dr. Berg and Melinda were extremely helpful and knowledgeable. They helped with a lot of confusing things I have been going through with my cat Leo. They provided a good plan moving forward and made me feel comfortable and at ease during a very difficult time. Providing a clear plan and answering all my questions in a way to help me understand. Not suggesting invasive procedures that the doctor didnt feel necessary. Compassionate and helpful with administering medications. I would recommend seeing Dr, Berg and his staff for anyone with an animal that needs ongoing treatment.
Guardian is a wonderful facility. They were so accommodating to us especially since we traveled over 2 hours to get there. All the staff have been kind caring and considerate of our needs. Dr Hart is amazing and talked us through all of our options and really did make us and our cat feel like he had our best interest at heart!
I’m so thankful that this place exists and that I’m able to write this review right now. My dog injured his neck and was prescribed a few different meds and put on crate rest. After five days he wasn’t improving, so we took him to Guardian.Dr. Jessica Eich evaluated him and sent him in for an MRI which showed a ruptured disk. He was immediately brought into surgery where he was given a ventral slot to correct the problem. We were given an update immediately after the surgery and every morning for the three days he needed to stay there to recuperate; we even got a pic and a video of his progress, which was great to see. He’s back home with us tonight, he’s looking really good, and his mobility has returned. Thank you so much to everyone at Guardian.
I was never given the chance to speak to an actual vet about my dogs symptoms or condition. However, they were quick to demand payment (higher than even the original maximum estimate) of $3400 dollars before we received any diagnosis or would allow us to see our dog who they kept in the facility for 9 hours to perform a CT scan. After days of waiting for a call back we were informed that our dog had cancer. When I asked if I could simply speak to the oncologist for recommendations on pain management they insisted I come back in for another visit so they could perform an additional exam. I’ll never recommend or return with my other pets.
Amazing experience.Everyone was so helpful and informative about my pets health. Came here for a second opinion because another vet pretty much advised that my dog had kidney disease and wanted to do all this additional testing, when this was not the case. Guardian took the time to throughly read through my dogs blood and urine results and explained from soup to nuts what all of this meant and how we can handle going forward. THANK YOU!!!!!
My cat passed away at home in the middle of the night. My vet referred me to Guardian... thank goodness... They were so caring while still maintaining professionalism. When we went to pick up the ashes my heart was so full of love. The package I received , the paw prints , hand written card from the staff , a helpful guide on how to live without your pet and seeds to plant in honor of my cat. I was blown away made the whole awful experience so nmuch easier for my whole family. Thank you Guardian
About a year and a half ago, I had brought my 11 y.o Rhodesian Ridgeback, Maya, in to be seen due to her large belly and refusing food (She was a food monster). Still during COVID and being an emergency clinic, there was a wait time. A tech came out to speak to me quickly and take Maya. Maya didnt want to go without me, so I was allowed to walk to the door to get her into the building. Some time later, the veterinarian came out to speak to me and gave me the worst news any pet owner wants to hear. Fluid build up inside the abdomen due to having a tumor rupture overnight. (She was 100% the day before). It was best to take Maya out of suffering rather than have a surgery that would only prolong her life for so long. They had drained a lot of fluid out of her abdomen but when we got to see her again, she radiated joy and happiness one last time before getting comfortable on the blankets and saying goodbye.I cannot recall the veterinarian we had but she spoke very confidently and was compassionate knowing this was a delicate situation. Everyone we encountered during and after the appointment was very sincere and caring. Complimented Maya on her well behavior and was thorough with what they were going to do to figure out what was wrong with her. I will always go to Guardian for future pets, which I hopefully will never need but great knowing they are there. Thank you to you all for all that you do every day for our pets! :]
Where do I start. If you need a specialist emergency group this is the place to go. The staff was nice a professional they make you feel at home. I was in the middle of a work shift and took our dog in right away. They even allowed me leave to go to work while the diagnosed and boarded my dog for over 6 hour until we were able to pick him up after work at 10 oclock, they are also open 24 hours. The best thing was they didnt ask for a payment until we picked up our beloved animal six hours later I have four dogs and Incase of an emergency I will definitely be go back to them👍👍
We are so fortunate to have Guardian Vet Specialists. The emergency docs, the surgeon (Dr. Rung) & the ICU support staff were phenomenal! My 7yr old had emergency surgery to remove his spleen and a large tumor, three years later hes happy & healthy. In January my other dog tore his ACL & Meniscus, Dr. Rung repaired his knee & 8 weeks later hes happy & walking normally.
When your dog is sick and you dont know why it is the worst feeling in the world. I called every animal hospital in my area and they all turned me away, I drove an hour to guardian veterinary and Im so glad I did. They were courteous, kind, and hospitable towards both me and my dog and provided the prompt and life-saving surgery that my best friend needed, I cant recommend them highly enough
TL/DR Guardian Veterinary Specialists in Brewster NY is an attractive and well-equipped facility. One professional, Dr. Kendra Daniels, was aggressive and cruel ruined the experience for us. The rest of the staff is comprised of skilled, well educated, mostly compassionate professionals. Improvement is needed in communications with clients. While our initial contact with the facility made us feel like our dog would be getting the best possible care, interactions went horribly downhill. Our first encounter was with the front desk staff, several emergency nurses, and Dr. Emanouil Petkov, who was skilled and compassionate, and gave us a frank yet hopeful understanding of the prognosis for our very sick dog, whom he admitted into emergency services. The diligence and empathetic work of the emergency room nurses left us feeling that our dogs care was in good hands. There were several points during the evening when someone would tell us that they or someone else would be with us in a moment or in a few minutes and then left us for long periods with no update, sometimes as long as a half hour. This accelerated our anxiety greatly, but we still had a very positive feeling that even if our dog didnt recover, that still she would be receiving excellent care.We received conflicting advice from several different people about how to get an update on our dogs status. None of the suggestions worked particularly well. There were also several times when someone would leave us in a room with a promise to send someone else right in or to be right back themselves. This usually led to a 20 to 40 minute wait with no idea what is happening or what comes next and when. When an animal you love is potentially dying in the next room, this can be hard to take. Guardian needs to improve its client communications.Guardian seems to be quite committed to the idea that a pet that cannot be cured should be put down. I understand that a lot of people believe this way, but not everyone. It would be nice if Guardian could be more accepting of people who have reservations about rushing to euthanasia. In particular, one of the Emergency doctors, Dr. Kendra Daniels was, in our opinion, quite unnecessarily cruel, aggressive, confrontational and condemnatory making a difficult time into a hellish nightmare. Dr. Daniels should be offered training in how to be kind to people who are suffering even if their values differ from her own. It is not her mandate to make pet owners do what she believes is the right thing, and instead she should learn to respect that people get to decide the fate of their pets. A person like this should not be in a public-facing role.
The people at Guardian Veterinary Specialists are worth the almost hundred mile drive. Both when I worked there and after I left, the excellence of the level of care has never wavered. I have had some of the best specialists in the country/world save my animals multiple times, and the compassion of the emergency is not to be compared. Even though I dont know how much longer I have with Chili, I am armed with everything I need to be confident in whatever decision I make. Thats always been my experience and thats why I make the drive. I cant underscore the importance of how knowing youre doing the right thing medically helps soften the traumatic impact when you potentially have to make a terrifying decision.
Brought my geriatric diabetic dog here for an emergency. They were kind and transparent and the wait for him to be seen was not very long in the middle of the night. The 3 star rating is because I am taken aback by the treatment cost. The clinic charged 2132,41 dollars for care provided between 1am and approx. 8am the same day, when my dog passed away. I will update this review with a picture of the itemized bill once I receive it.
Helped us with our beloved dog during a very difficult time… Our hearts were touched by the Care, Compassion, Professionalism & Expertise that Guardian gave…. We are bringing our Beloved Baby home because of them… Thank you in all that you do ❤️ Animal Care & Compassion to Families
We truly had an incredible experience at Guardian. Everything was organized, in depth, compassionate and thorough. Facility is clean, bright and happy. They were able to get us in quickly. Addressed all our concerns. Made us feel comfortable. Heard us out, didnt shoo anything aside. As dog parents who were told theres an incredible likelihood our 4 year old dog might have a brain tumor you can imagine we were in absolute shambles. We were treated with such kindness and care. Dr. Josephs assistant (I wish I knew her name, brown hair) is an absolute rockstar. She was beyond caring and approachable. She made time for all our questions, she knew all the details. Often at doctors offices you can tell theyre on a schedule. Both Dr. Joseph and his assistant gave us all the time we needed to feel heard and understand whats going on. I could tell they showed our boy love while he was with them too. Hes very shy and he went with them easily. Not to mention its obvious that Dr. Joseph is sharp, educated and experienced. I knew right away he was going to take amazing care of our boy.
My chihuahua recently went in for an echocardiogram and I have to tell everyone how amazing Dr. Goodwin and his assistants are, especially Malik. Everything from greeting us in the waiting room to the actual scan was a top notch, 5 star experience. Dr. Goodwin is warm, friendly and knowledgeable! He made both me and my dog feel at ease in what is an otherwise stressful situation, and with a chihuahua that is not easy to do! I highly recommend Dr. Goodwin should your fur baby need a Cardiologist! The entire staff at Guardian has been so friendly and helpful I am glad I chose them for my dog’s health journey.
We have been thrilled with your care of our Gary after his emergency spinal surgery. Every member of your team is amazing and we are deeply grateful to the very special folks in your physical therapy department. Guardian cared for our dog like he was a member of their own family.
GuardianI have mixed feelings about the services we received from Guardian. The positives: they truly seem to care about the health and well being of their patients and the families that come along with them. More often than not, the owners are forgotten about in the ER veterinary field. This is not the case with Guardian. I was able to text with a patient advocate, receive picture updates and call whenever I wanted. Truly important to me is to know my dog is happy when I leave her somewhere without me.The negatives: I was told by Dr. Silano who preformed the surgery on Sunday(day of surgery) that my pup could go home the next day if she was eating. On Monday, Dr. Sunshine told me Zora would not be going home regardless if she was eating or not, and that he should not have been making those recommendations because he was not board certified. As such, he shouldn’t be giving me a timeline by which my dog can go home. He was qualified enough to preform the surgery, but not qualified enough to provide aftercare directions? I’m not sure about you, but this doesn’t sit well with me. I was ready to sign an AMA refusing medical advice when they decided to send her home. Based on other reviews, they probably wanted more $ to keep her another night.Zora went to Guardian with all of her teeth and she left missing 2 front teeth. I’m still not entirely sure what happened there. But they claim it was like that when she arrived. Maybe take pictures of your pets before dropping them off? There seems to be a lot of miss communication amongst the staff. I asked for an estimate of the surgery that needed to be preformed and it wasn’t provided until after it was said and done. Not that $ would have determined if my dog had the life saving surgery she needed. But it’s always nice to inform customers of the cost before doing the procedure.
This place had staff who were very friendly and helpful. The process was easy and this place helped put our mind at ease when our regular vet was closed on the weekend and we needed to help our sick puppy. The friendliness of the staff was great and making our puppy feel safe was a priority of theirs.
Im sad to say I only discovered this place in my cats last few days. The staff and facilities here were amazing. They did their best to make my beloved babys final moments comfortable. Everyone was incredibly caring and kind. Every single person I interacted with there went out of their way to care for my cat and I, especially Dr Daniels & in particular Amy, who spent more time with us than Ive ever had anyone at any veterinary facility do so. If I ever bring myself to have another kitty, the only place itll be going, despite the 40 minute drive, is here.Thank you to the staff at Guardian for your kindness and compassion.
We were very impressed with the prompt same day surgery. Everyone was very professional and caring. The fact that we were able to have endoscopic removal of over 20 hair ties from our cat and avoid traditional surgery was worth the extra expense. Thank you Dr. Berg. Same day surgery
This was our first visit to Guardian and must say the overall experience was stellar. From the moment you enter, the staff was extremely welcoming and hospitable. Our little precious gigi had an appointment with the highly regarded vet neurologist Dr. Gibson who showed our family great compassion when taking the time to thoroughly guide us through all the concerns and questions we had regarding our dogs neurological state. She demonstrated extensive knowledge and made us feel completely at ease with which option would be best in terms of medication and testing for our beloved gigi. Thank you so much Dr Gibson and to and your incredible team.
Care was excellent. We walked in with our dog who had suddenly lost the ability to stand. From the person at the door who welcomed us and realized our need for care was urgent, to the Triage nurse, to the doctor who examined her and explained the situation, everyone was kind, helpful and validated our concerns. We were able to have x-rays and bloodwork that same day.
Kind, compassionate staff. My pets condition and options for treatment thoroughly explained. Taking the time to explain treatment options and procedures necessary for my dogs illness. They helped me find hope when my pets cancer diagnosis seemed bleak and hopeless. And probably most important to me is the obvious love they have for their 4 legged patients.
Amazing staff, and the best doctors!! My dogs case was complex and no other facility could provide me with a diagnosis or treatment plan. Dont waste your time going any where else! This hospital has a neurologist Doctor Berg who was amazing! He was able to provide a plan when no other doctor could and possibly saved benjamins life. Rebecca , was wonderful. She gave my dog Benjamin lots of love which was very comforting to me during this stressful time . A big thank you to this wonderful team !!
My dog has a terminal illness and the staff at Guardian has been great. They have assisted me over the phone, doctors have called me back in a short amount of time, the doctors have been straightforward about my dogs situation, and the support staff has been a pleasure to work with. The Dr. called me after 8 pm at night, immediately after receiving my dogs lab results.
I had an unusual event, bat encounter with a not fully vaccinated puppy. After calling several places, bat and wildlife services included. Guardian (Brewster) was the most helpful in caring for my puppy and my questions. I originally spoke with Linda, nightshift, around midnight. She was professional, kind, and followed my lead with humor - making the situation much more relaxed. I mean I had a bat in a container... Linda had to get back to me with a little research which she did immediately. I ended up bringing my puppy and bat in the next morning. My puppy was examined, all good, and she was determined to be old enough for the rabies vaccine. Unfortunately, the bat did not have such a good outcome. The Health Department requires the bat be tested for rabies. Guardian was able to take the bat and have it shipped for testing - those details I will not go into, but a shoutout to Wildlife Remedies for answering my call and questions. Thank you Guardian for all your help. It is comforting to know you are there in an emergency.
It was Monday, the 4th of July & one of the stitches on my dogs torso, from a recent tumor removal surgery had separated & was bleeding. I was naturally very concerned. After calling & emailing photos, they recommended I bring her in, rather than wait till Tuesday, to see my Vet. It took my husband & myself slightly over 30mins to get to their Brewster facility. We were taken into a room when we got there & immediately taken care of. Darla, our Old English Bulldog, received excellent care. She needed lab work, since it appeared she was developing a secondary infection, one of my fears. We were given a full spectrum antibiotic, as well as a mild sedative, to take home; since she is quite the active 12yr old gal. We were there, I guess an hour & left reassured, with out now tee shirt wearing Darla. We found everyone there to be professional and caring. We HIGHLY recommend their services & would not hesitate to go there again.
My cat Samantha, was a recipient of a blood transfusion which gave us 6 more months to love on her. That would not have been possible without to Blood Bank team at Guardian. As a way of paying it forward, my cat Humphrey, is a blood donor. Love being able to give back in such a meaningful way.
The nicest staff! The front office staff was so kind and understanding and even apologized for the wait. I came in as an ER patient, so I was expecting a really long wait, but it only ended up being 45 minutes since they were able to squeeze me into a regular consult. Once in the exam room, both Dr. Tofflemire and Rebecca put me at ease right away letting me know my cat would be fine. From the moment I walked in, everyone was just very kind.
I took my dog here all the way from Rhode Island because it was the soonest I could get in and my parents live close by.They were very welcoming and educated me on my options and my dogs condition. I would recommend this facility to anyone in need. He was seen by the neurologist dr Gibson and she took the time to explain all options to me regarding conservative tx and surgery route.I plan to drive 2 hours again for a follow up.I also appreciated how they took him out of the room to preform tests as I wouldn’t have wanted to see my dog in pain. Thank you for your help.
Very courteous, took time to explain in detail the situation and allowed me to ask questions, I didnt feel rushed. They followed up with an email to my primary vet, sent RX in in a timely manner. Follow up email with summery of visit so Im sure I didnt miss any information when I was there. With such a serious diagnosis, Im always afraid that I may miss something that was said during the visit, but I have it in writing.
I brought my senior cat Trax here last Friday in the middle of the night to be euthanized. She was very old and it was her time. The entire time staff is caring and compassionate. Ive never had to do this before the staff explained what was going to happen. When it came time they brought us to a room that looked like a living-room at your home. This was very comforting for us. They allowed us as much time as we needed before and after. We decided to have Trax cremated. I picked her up today. It brought tears to our eyes with everything that came. It really felt like a final gift to us it was beautiful. Thanks guys
Our 8 month old puppy arrived in critical condition after an infection from being neutered. His primary vet ignored the signs, but when we arrived at Guardian every person from the front desk, to the Vet Tech, to the doctor, to the surgeons all listened to our concerns and treated our puppy like it was their own. We almost lost our puppy because of his infection but Guardian his life! The communication was seamless and so easy because the team texts you! You don’t need to wait on hold for minutes on end at Guardian. We loved receiving pictures of our puppy to update us. Additionally, the surgeon and criticalist answered every single question and addressed all concerns. We truly knew he was in the best hands and we were constantly reassured of that by his progress, updates, and changes that were made to his meds when needed. We cant thank your entire team enough! You saved our pups life! Rebecca welcomed us and calmed us down upon arrival. She took care of our puppy when he was extremely uncomfortable and cared for him like it was her own dog. Sara communicated with our surgeons, which caught an infection to adjust his meds. She gave our puppy love and care when he really needed it. Dr. Atica observed him closely and brought our dog back to his old self. She ran all tests to make sure everything was normal. Dr. Atica was very patient and through when explaining her new treatment plan. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Our English Bulldog, Churchill, died under a simple test procedure conducted by Dr. Joseph. On June 28th, 2022, Churchill, was scheduled for a MRI at Guardian at 10am to determine the source of his sporadic jaw pain. His visit was not an emergency and the jaw pain was controllable with medication. At Churchill’s arrival, all of his vitals were taken. An evaluation was done and it was determined that there was no indication of any risk or problems for the simple procedure (MRI).The procedure was conducted ( 4 hrs later , why???) by neurologist, Dr. Richard Joseph. After the intubation was done Dr. Joseph called us to say that Churchill was not doing well. His heart had stopped. They are trying to resuscitate him.(But the report our vet received yesterday indicates that Churchill stopped breathing after being anesthetized).Several minutes later he came out and said Churchill was dead. Just like that. No explanation. No reason. Just like that. Then they rolled his body into the comfort room.It was not a surgery or complicated procedure, … just a simple scan of his jaw…And that was it. We went home without Churchill. There were no calls. No explanation. No sorry from Guardian or Dr. Joseph. After shock from the devastation settled we requested that Dr. Joseph call us with an explanation. It did not happen.A patient died under his care and he didn’t have the courtesy to call us.We called and called, finally he called us back saying “ we don’t know what happened.”It’s been ten days since Churchill’s passed away and we still have not received the medical report regarding what happened on the day of the procedure even though the report has been requested on numerous occasions. We called almost every day and asked for a review board and a face to face meeting with a Dr. Joseph and his medical team to explain to us what happened with Churchill. So far it did not happen.Shame.He killed our dog!!!They overdosed him.A healthy dog went into their care and died.Be very careful about trusting your beloved pet to Guardian’s care.
Every single member of staff I interacted with - and Im a big interactor - were friendly, professional and helpful. As I said to one of them, it was like I had found Vet Heaven. And what a BIG place yet the service felt intimate. It was a LONG drive for me and my constantly howling cat but well worth it!
Dr Burchman is the best! He cares so much for the dogs and cats and he is very thorough with his examinations. The vet technicians and front desk staff are awesome! Ive highly recommended for years and will continue to! The caring of Dr Burchman and staff. Sabrina Alvarez is so caring and she answers all questions. Love this place! 😀 👍
I feel blessed knowing I brought Rocco to Guardian Hospital. From the moment of our first appointment.Dr Runge took care of Rocco , what an amazing human being , compassionate, knowledgeable and caring would be an understatementDr Runge and everyone of his staff made this experience with Rocco’s surgery less stressful 💜I trusted him and all I can say is that was the best decisionI thank everyone at Guardian 💜 specially Dr RUNGE, Michael T, Elizabeth and Matt , what a wonderful crew Keep making the difference for all of our fur babies because they are also a Huge part of our lives. THANK YOU 🙏🏻
I’m so grateful that my dog has one of the best Veterinarians @ the Armory Cat and Dog Hospital every time I’ve have had to pay a visit with a problem they have nail it right away. My brother feels very thankful with Dr. Burchman he diagnosed my brothers dog with kidney failure. She was at a advanced stage and had to be put to sleep. The waiting for and appointment is something that doesn’t make me so happy but if it’s not serious that you can wait ok but they always have had accommodations for extreme emergencies like they one my brother experience.
Dr. Goodwin and his team are so amazing. They take their time with you, make sure there are no unanswered questions and are just so incredibly kind. This is my first dog to have heart issues and am relieved that she can get such consistent care to monitor her condition. I live in Newtown, CT where we have Newtown Veterinary Specialists but coming to Guardian is well worth the trip! Highly recommend Dr. Goodwin for any cardiological health issues.
We brought our young Irish terrier in after noticing she was scratching at and favoring her left ear. The dr. was attentive, listened to the info we provided, completed a comprehensive exam, and followed up with medications. There was a clear explanation of how and when to give the meds.We were very very pleased with her care. The only reason for a 4 was that we waited 2 hours to be seen. I really didnt mind the wait bc I understand there may have been other patients with more urgent needs. It just would be nice to send someone in to check on you periodically while waiting. I would definitely come again and recommend to others.
I gave an 4 star instead of a 5 only because I was very disappointed in the fact that I made the appt. specifically with Dr. Berg, whom my vet recommended, and I got Dr. Gibson. I liked Dr. Gibson, but the point is that I made the appt. with Dr. Berg and should have gotten him. I also wasnt told about the change until I got there. I really appreciated the cleanliness and efficiency - I didnt wait long at all and the bathroom and waiting rooms were spotless. Its a gorgeous facility and I would definitely go there again and would recommend them.
Staff and specialists are courteous, knowledgeable, efficient, multiple questions are never rushed nor is your time with the vets or during telephone conversations with either staff or specialists. Our family has had continued vet appointments with many different offices through the years. GVS is the whole package. The expertise and true caring of everyone we come in contact with at GVS offers our family and beloved furry family members feel that we are well cared for each time we visit.
Anytime someone needs an EC, ophthalmologist veterinarian or cardio Veterinarian , I always recommend them to guardian in Brewster. Always had great experience with friendly staff. Dont trust my pets with my people but glad to have guardian here ! Communication & friendliness
I took my 9 month old puppy with a heart murmur to Dr. Goodwin DVM. Dr. Goodwin is the type of veterinarian who absolutely loves what he does and sings through the echocardiogram while showing you what is going on on the ultrasound. We will be getting the catheter surgery for my puppy for patent ductus arteriosis in her heart in December and I couldnt have more confidence in Dr. Goodwin.Guardian is a modern and friendly atmosphere with excellent service. 10/10 recommend.
I was very impressed by the facility and staff at Guardian Veterinary Specialists in Brewster, NY. I brought Pete, my Beagle Mix, to Guardian last night, April 30, 2022. Staff was always responsive and helpful. A written summary of our visit was provided. Thank you, Guardian.
I am so relieved to have this wonderful facility of wonderful people so close to our home. We needed help late at night and I cannot express enough how much the care, professionalism and kindness of the entire staff is appreciated. As I told them, hopefully we never need them again but it was a true pleasure meeting everyone. What a dedicated and caring group of people. Thank you so very much.
My dog has been receiving physical therapy for 9 months. He has arthritis in his right front elbow. His therapy has been designed especially for him. His physical therapist Lisa takes great care of him and me as well. She updates me with every visit and always asks how he has been doing. I highly recommend physical therapy at Guardian Vet.Lisa BradyLisa always takes great care of Rooney. She is patient and he has come such a long way. Therapy has made a difference for my dogs life. Flexibility and making my dogs life better.
This is an excellent, state of the art Veternary practice, open 24/7 for emergencies, as well as, regular veternary visits. We brought our cat there for a special MRI, and we werent rushed nor was the visit. Fortunately all is well with our cats health. Pocket will continue to see the regular veternarary doctor there, because everyone was so thorough.
Dr. Berg and the staff fit me in when my cat Jibboo needed an ultrasound asap. I could not be more thankful to them. I will certainly return if anything were to happen again. They were so nice to me and were very helpful. They were able to fit Jibboo in for an appointment.
Could not have picked a better place for my cat Miso to go. She needed to have emergency surgery to remove something in her stomach causing a blockage. From Liz at the front desk in the ER to the surgeon keeping us updated throughout her stay we couldn’t have been happier with our experience. Liz was polite & welcoming from the moment we walked in the door & throughout the whole day. Miso’s surgeon Dr. Hart was absolutely incredible. He walked us through the whole procedure before starting & calmed our nerves. Miso’s nurse audrey was amazing throughout the day speaking to me & updating me on how she was doing. I highly would recommend this place. Thank you guardian team for taking care of my girl!- Miso & Jennifer 🤍
I cant say enough about how amazing our experience was with Guardian. Our 17 week old Vizsla was suddenly a VERY sick puppy. We took Sage to a different ER vet who worked on her aggressively but did not have a cardiologist available -Guardian did. The two ER vets worked together seamlessly and arranged for her to transfer safely. Sage was quickly treated by the cardiologist, handled by the critical care specialist at GVS and by some miracle was released the next day. Both doctors called me personally with regular updates. They were kind, compassionate and very patient They explained her condition along the way and stayed on the phone with me as long as i needed to answer my questions. There is no doubt in my mind that Guardian helped save my puppys life. Our family is truly grateful.
I can not say enough about this facility concerning the treatment of our beloved Benzi and the the kindness and compassion from the staff. We by-passed other facilities and drove over an hour to get the best care in an emergency. Because of Guardian, Benzi will have the advantage of living a longer life.
Stay away stay away stay away!!!! My dog almost went blind under Dr. Tofflemires care whom btw is absolutely impossible to speak with. I rolled the dice with him bc I read good reviews about him, but it seems to be that he picks and chooses which dogs he’ll care about and mine was not one. He doesn’t give you the time of day and only cares about money. If he didn’t, he would’ve taken his time to properly diagnose my pup. He was hands down the worst decision and I am kicking myself for ever trusting my pup in his care. Our appts were a fortune but the time provided was 10 minutes. DO NOT come here and waste your time. Thank the lord I found another specialist that saved my baby’s eyes. Please trust me and stay away from here!Oh and the techs and front desk people, super rude. They don’t care about you, they care more about getting lunch or texting. And I assure you I am in the system. I just wasn’t stupid enough to use my name to only have them annoy me and not fix the issue. I’m not the first person with these issues, they didn’t fix it then and they won’t now.Btw: notice how it’s only the poor reviews they “can’t find in the system”. It irritates me how much they truly take zero responsibility.
I first would like to thank everyone starting with Dr. Berg, MRI specialist, neurologist, nursing staff and the front desk receptionist. I was referred to them by a Dr that discovered my dog had no feeling in her back legs. She was referred to them as an emergency case. When we arrived they took emmie right away and discovered she had a ruptured disc. She was taken into surgery immediately. Dr. Berg call and told me she did well. Unfortunately 5 days later she developed milo mialgia, which is a disease that attacks the spinal cord. Emmie became paralyzed from her neck down. This day was the hardest day of my life. A decision no one ever wants to make. I had to put her down. I would recommend this hospital 100% to anyone who needs the best of care for their animal. Their professionalism, understanding, and most of all Making sure your ok is above and beyond any experience I have ever had. Thank you all for the love you gave emmie and the support through all this you gave me and my family during this most difficult time.
Extremely expensive but you dont get what you pay for. Very little communication, and each doctor you do speak with gives you different opinions of what to do and they dont seem to be together on course of treatment. The worst tho is the moment you are discharged dont bother calling them about any medicine or questions, they dont care cause they dont get paid to talk to you, they just send you too voicemail over and over and you dont ever hear back from them unless you beg the receptionist. They also forgot to send my pet home with a medication that I was charged for and it took constant calling for them to refund for it. Quick to take money, not honest when they make a mistake or have enough decency to return.--------------------------------Definitely in the system under this name unless you spelled it wrong. But it seems you like to say that to just diminish bad reviews.-------------------------------Wow. First you magically couldnt find my records to try to discredit my review now you just say I was lying? Very professional. First off, I very much understand the cost of vet care. I worked 5+ years for a vet. The service and care you gave my pet was less then professional and sub par to say the least. I paid my bill, this wasnt about money I said you dont get what you pay for because the service was horrible and I expected more from the best specialists and support staff and expensive diagnostic equipment as you said.. It took almost 48hour for my pet, who as you said was in serious condition possibly internally bleeding, to get x-rays and ultrasound (ultrasound was 24hrs). Could have went to our local 24/7 emergency clinic and have had X-rays and ultrasound done same day, even my regular vet could have had the X-rays done same day. Plus two different doctors said two totally different results. One said pancreas was enlarged. other said no, it was normal, there was just blood in her urinary tract. I asked if my pet was eating and was told she was eating well. I knew she was a picky eater so that didnt seem right. She had lost 15lbs while in your facility, granted she was sick but why lie and say she was eating? Even the tech when we picked her up said she wasnt. One dr. said she could go home with zero platelets and be perfectly fine (they do it with human babies he said) for us to pick her up next day, other recommend that was dangerous and wanted to keep her for extra days. Solid treatment plan? You forgot medicine. You never sent my pets full records with any treatment plan to my vet. And when my vet called multiple times to speak with the specialist, he couldnt get threw. Why have the treatment plan be to follow up with my vet Instead of having me come back for a follow up with the specialist. Plus I took many calls so I could get more medication. Never sent my vet her results/labs/records/treatment plan etc. I had to call 20+ times and beg the receptionist to get threw. So yes you have logs, but it took many calls to get that. I was only refunded for the missing medicine after calling over 3 times about it for over a week. You only offered once to have her come back for another emergency visit when I called to ask a question about side effects of the medications she was prescribed and yes I refuse because at that point I knew I made a mistake ever bring her to Gaurdian in the first place.
My 7 year old cat Madison was falsely diagnosed with FATE - a swiftly devastating terminal illness for cats - by a local veterinarian because she started limping. I was referred to Guardian, who got Maddy in to see Dr. Goodwin the cardiologist in less than 2 weeks. Everyone was friendly and responsive to my questions pre-appointment. When I brought her in, the process was smooth and my cat was at ease lying on the table with Dr. G, who has an amazing bedside manner with cats. Turns out Madison does not have heart disease at all and likely experienced trauma from an injury inside the house by our other cat. Dr. Goodwin is incredibly knowledgeable, amazing with worried pet parents, patient, and set the record straight. The quote I was given by Guardian matched my bill so there were no surprises and Madison is hopefully well on her way to recovery. Shes already starting to use her leg again and were monitoring her for 4 weeks for anything unusual. I felt so betrayed and heartbroken to learn that the initial fatal diagnosis was false and my family was put through so much suffering as was Madison with that false diagnosis. Madison has a healthy heart and any potential reason why she was limping when I rushed her to the local vet is totally treatable. Thank you Dr. Goodwin and the entire staff at Guardian. You saved my little girl when she was given a death sentence and helped my family heal after such a terrible false diagnosis. I will be returning should I ever need Dr. Goodwin or a specialist in-house again. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
Very professional, very informative and explained everything in an easy to understand way. Felt very comfortable and respected. The doctor was highly skilled and educated about the procedure and topic discussed. Professionalism and Respect were very high at this office
BEFORE YOU DONATE… read this. I had a five year old Norwegian Forest cat. He was beautiful. He got his bladder blocked on several occasions but this time was different. We brought him in and hoped to get his bladder unblocked. Dr.Tessa was flat out cruel. The cost was 6K to unblock him. I did not have it and her tone changed. She proceeded to tell me to call someone or surrender my cat. I asked what that process would be and I was told … I would get no information, not if my cat lived or died or if he would be a test cat. Aka pin cushion . In the meantime my cat was in pain struggling to stay alive. Tessa, the vet told me I could go elsewhere for about 3k. Again, the cat was in emergency situation. It was stressful getting him there without his bladder rupturing . I asked if I could spread the payment over couple months. NO. Okay, nothing was gonna help to put a catheter in my cat. I was a mess, my cat Noah was my baby. I loved him but it did not matter.I see they advertise they will help those in need on costs. Donate etc…. But zero was done. Instead , I was belittled, embarrassed, treated like dirt as she, Dr. Tessa lashed out how angry she was that I could not financially save my cat. I deserved no answers if surrendered which caused me to make the unfathomable choice to put him down. Dr. Tessa made the decision for me. I was not worthy to know anything if I surrendered him and that “ maybe” he would get to go home with staff….. but certainly not me who brushed and cared for him daily. She gave him his death shots only to stand up and walk out without even saying she was sorry for my loss. Oath to do good if you have enough money. Otherwise you get your fur-baby tossed in a box. Donate to a shelter instead because I have to ask where do donations go to offset cost for animals in need? Heartless, cruel, inhumane is just the start of my thoughts on this place. Talk about greed, $778. And a dead cat. Not to even try to unblock him is savage to me.***I see what you wrote back.NO, you did not offer to put cathedra in my cat to drain some urine so I could go to another vet. You said that was 6K to do. Plus bloodwork, plus hospital stay. You knew I was devastated for my cat. You were cold, rude, and should find another line of work..
The hospital and doctors must be very good, but they need to hire more people to answer the phone. After 3 calls I gave up trying to schedule an appointment with a cardiologist, I couldnt talk to anyone, just on hold listening the automatic music. The first call after 17 minutes on hold the call was disconnected.the second attempt, I was on hold for 5 minutes and the second call they put me on hold for 3 minutes and I couldnt get through to anyone.I cant even imagine if someone calls withan emergency, they never answer the phone.Im disappointed about this, just hire more receptionist or someone more responsible, I could be wrong but I think it’s impossible for someone to be busy for more than 26 minutes at a front desk where their job is to serve people.
Facility was clean and welcoming. Staff were all friendly and on point. Very knowledgeable and compassionate. I was very happy with the care Enzo received and I would recommend family and friends to your facility. Thank you, Enzos Dad - Jonathan. You were very comprehensive in explaining the plan for finding out what was causing Enzos issue. All of the options were laid out from best to worst case scenarios. I appreciated that along with all of the staffs positive attitudes to take care of Enzo..
We are so lucky that a place like Guardian exists! Following 100% safe Covid rules - you call upon arrival and a vet tech will come and spend quite a bit of time with you in finding out what the issue is with your pet. In our case, our dog was in quite bad shape, stopped eating and losing a lot of weight rapidly. Dr. Petkov came in and was absolutely wonderful with our boxer. ( in the past he would have to be tranquilized before a vet would even come near him) Dr. Petkov was like a dog whisperer and told our dog they would be friends and walked off with him and had a physical, blood, ultrasound and x- ray all without any anesthesia! He was spot on with his diagnosis and how to treat him and then had us work with Dr.Palma for further evaluation and treatment. He too was absolutely amazing! We had an endoscopy done and placed our dog on prednisone. We really thought we had to put him down but now with this little tablet our dog is back to wagging his tail, eating and going for long walks. Dr. Palma is fantastic with getting back to you, answering any questions and spends quite a bit of time in explaining treatment and proper protocol to follow. It’s a great feeling to know that they are there 24 hours 7 days a week. There are all types of specialty vets on site and I feel that my pet is in the absolute best care. THANK YOU GUARDIAN!
This facility is phenomenal its open 24/7 365 days a year offering great veterinarian services to your pets give them a try and you two will like them thank you to Dr Berg and the rest of the highly trained staff of guardian veterinarian services and Chloes new found friend Michelle.
They told me that they would take in a stray cat over the phone. Drove over state lines to be told that they were full and couldnt take her in. Gave two stars only bc I dont know enough about them there to say theyre good or bad but was very disappointed that this baby couldnt be helped when promised otherwise.
I had the most distressing experience with the cancer division, 11/2020. I sent an email to the administration about it and actually got no response which goes to show how much they actually care. To start, I had a difficult time connecting with the department when my beloved dog was diagnosed with cancer - many crossed wires due to poor communication process. Finally after several weeks of go arounds, I received a text with an appt for consultation. Then the day before, after I cancelled half my work day for the appt, I was informed the long awaited appt was cancelled because. they did not have the needed test reports (why didnt they have that before making appt?) After escalating and requesting discussion with supervisor, I was connected to Dr. P who is the head of the division who was so completely disrespectful, unprofessional and downright cruel, incessantly speaking over me (micro-agressive) while I tried to explain my situation, until I was driven into a hysterical fit. This man, IMO is a monster and should be placed on a leave of absence until he gets his head on straight. And in the meantime I am watching my beautiful dog melt away with anal gland carcinoma that may have been treated successfully with the immuno-therapy trials they do there. Deplorable, deplorable, deplorable!!!!!
We were so pleased with our visit. While curbside appointments were occurring, a technician and the vet called me to learn more about our pup and update me. Everyone was kind, and even though busy, did not appear to be rushing. Communication during and after visit was superb. We were not visiting for an emergency, we were referred here by our primary vet for an eye exam for our dog. Dr. Tofflemire and his team were incredible! The front desk and technicians were also lovely.
Staff and facility are amazing. Honest and great care for my dog, and very flexible. My dog was having anxiety, so the staff altered the way he was being treated to accommodate us. I also appreciated the experimental procedures. I felt that Guardian went above and beyond to make sure my dog was being cared for to the greatest extent.
My dog had a wonderful experience at Guardian. Dr. Hart is an amazing and caring orthopedic surgeon. My greyhound broke his right front leg in August 2020 when he tripped on our indoor stairs. We took him to a different vet hospital in CT who charged an obscene amount of money for what ended up a failed surgery. We visited Dr. Hart on the recommendation of our greyhound adoption group. He spent an hour on the phone going over our options and we decided to give surgery one more try. Within two weeks, our dog was walking on the leg and thereafter had a successful plate removal. My sweet and loving greyhound now has a healed, well-functioning leg and I cried when I got the final word. Furthermore, the entire staff at Guardian is great (a special shout-out to Rebecca W who cared for my dog after surgery and Liz at the front desk who was also so kind and helpful). Finally, the price was reasonable. Five stars :)
Our experience was positive on every level. The staff was pleasant, caring and very professional. Our surgeon was very thorough in explaining the procedure and aftercare. From beginning to end we were completely satisfied and confident. The level of professionalism and personalized care given our dog and us was top shelf.
I was left this number from our regular vet since they were not available this weekend while our cat was sick. We were seen Friday at our usual place and was told one diagnosis but when our cat wasnt improving and showing more distress, Im glad that Guardian was there to help us on Saturday - especially them being available 24/7. Im very glad I listened to my gut and brought him over to the emergency clinic.the staff was kind and courteous, extremely understanding, and so helpful. The vet techs were gentle with our cat, and the doctor along with the front desk were great with communication. Im so sorry I cant recall everyones names since it was a very distressing evening, but Im so very grateful for giving us a more correct diagnosis and really helping our cat without being dismissive like our vet can sometimes be since this is a reoccurring issue.
Everyone was extremely helpful, kind and responsive when we arrived. Were grateful for the care our puppy received. Guardian is a large state-of-the-art facility that offers emergency 24/7 365 days - If you live upstate anywhere within a 1-2hr range and have an emergency with your pet, this is where I would go. You can tell everyone really cares and respects the animals that come in to their care. We’re grateful to have been seen by them. (And we’ve learned the hard way and are going to get pet insurance now - emergency care is not cheap!)
ABSOLUTELY AVOID THIS PLACE!My vet recommended I bring my beloved Bernese Mountain dog Jessie in to have a CT scan done as a mass was discovered in a chest X-ray. She saw Dr. Berg, who indicated likely cancer. We were charged $3,100 for the procedure. A coordinator called back 2 days later to let us know the results were inconclusive. She wasnt able to answer our questions so we asked to speak with the doctor. We left 4 MESSAGES - and after 10 days my primary vet had to call to finally understand the findings and subsequent recommendation.Guardian sent me a quote ranging between $8,200-$11,000 and the coordinator had no idea what it was for. Needless to say, I found the care to be terrible. Never received a return phone call from the doctor. Shockingly that doctor turned out to be the CEO at Guardian.I subsequently took Jessie to Newtown Vet Specialists. She received excellent care there and we were able to provide her with a very high quality life for 4 months after her diagnosis. Thank goodness we had an alternative to Guardian! GUARDIAN IS UNRESPONSIVE, OUTRAGEOUSLY EXPENSIVE, AND UNCARING.
DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE IF YOU CARE ABOUT YOUR ANIMAL!!!! I went there for my dog because he was having seizures and not only did they overcharge me for the medication that they were giving him but they also held my dog hostage until the amount (which was different then the estimate) was paid. All they cared about was getting money out of me and were extremely rude during the entire two week process. When I expressed my concerns they did not care at all, and did nothing about any of the things I brought to their attention. In all of the chaos I must say there are a few great people in there, but overall I would give this place zero stars if I could. Stay away!!
The whole process with Guardian has been easy so far, including scheduling, getting in contact, and the appointment itself. I was kept well informed and was given a thorough rundown by the vet. The staff was also so kind and calm and I know my cat is being taken care of with them.
We had a very positive experience with Guardian. We went to Guardian because Dr. Berg and Dr. Joseph had treated Charlie our cat for a brain tumor in 2015. Charlie had his second successful brain surgery with Dr. Berg on 11/30/21. We are grateful to Dr. Berg and Dr. Joseph for giving Charlie the best treatment possible. He is doing very well in his recovery so far. We used the emergency hospital at Guardian in early November 2021 when Charlie had a seizure. We had a good experience with the ER part of Guardian. Everyone we have dealt with at Guardian was kind, compassionate and professional. We appreciated being able to come into Guardian with Charlie despite the ongoing pandemic. It was reassuring to be able to see that Charlie was treated with kindness and compassion. I appreciated being able to call and get updates on Charlies condition. One of his nurses even sent me a photo of Charlie to reassure me that he was OK.
I am extremely happy with my experiences at Guardian. I had 2 dogs sick at the same time. One with breast cancer and one with Addisons Disease. Both of my pups are doing well at this point. To me it is the best gift anyone could have given me. There are two things that stand out. The vet who did the intake when Bella Maria came in via emergency, told me that when her dog is sick, she forgets all of her medical training. This made me feel so much better about being so scared. And when I brought Lulu Belle for her first chemo and ultrasound, I told the nurse/tech that Lulu is afraid to be picked up. The nurse/tech came back out after taking Lulu Belle to the back to let me know that she was doing really well. She was not afraid and not shaking. This made me feel so much better leaving her. Every time that I have come to Guardian, everyone has respected my wish to not put anything on my dogs necks. I use only harnesses. They are never pulled by their necks. This is very important to me. I tell everyone who asks about my dogs, that Guardian has essentially saved their lives!
We spent 5 thousand dollars, money we dont have, under the impression they would try to save our pet. What it feels like they did is rack up a bill as much as possible, treat him for his anemia and not even give us a confirmed diagnosis. They said that he may respond well to injections, and that it could help him, but the moment we said we were out of money, everything stopped. They dont care about animals, they will rack up your bill as high as it can be until you say youve spent all your savings and maxed out your cards, then kick you to the curb. They could have offered us something, but that would require not taking all of your money.Maybe if youre rich, this is a great place, but for regular people, Im heartbroken.
My wife and I took our dog today to Guardian at the recommendation of our vet. Our dog is 11.5 years old and has developed facial paralysis issues on the right side of his face. Our appointment was for 11:30 am and we were promptly taken into a consultation room where our dog was taken to check his vitals. A vet tech then came in and took his history. We then waited until 12:30pm for the vet to see us. Our dog was not returned to us during this wait. When the vet finally did come in, he seemed smug and acted as if he really wasn’t interested in speaking with us. He did say that he examined our dog, and that there were many possibilities for the cause of the paralysis, ranging from a sinus infection to a tumor or nerve injury. He suggested that an MRI (which would require putting our 11.5 year old dog under anesthesia) was necessary to get to the bottom of the issue. He spent a total of seven minutes with us and during that period, he looked at his watch three times. I guess we were boring him. After he left the room, the vet tech came back in and presented us with an MRI estimate of $3800 - $5100. When we stated that we could not afford this, the vet tech hit us with a seemingly very practiced response about getting some Health Care credit card that had 24 months free financing. When we told her that we were not interested in this card, she left the room so that we could talk it over.As my wife and I discussed this, we wondered why they wouldn’t try treating him with antibiotics if an infection could be the cause. This would seem to be the simplest first course of action. When the vet tech came back in, we asked her this. Ten minutes later, we were leaving with a 14 day supply of antibiotics (which cost $166). The vet never came back in to speak to us about our question regarding antibiotics.Regardless of the outcome with the antibiotics, we will not be going back to Guardian. We will not use any doctor that doesn’t look for the easiest, least invasive, and least expensive option during the first consultation.
Guardian did a great job explaining what our puppy needed, what our options were, and what we could expect moving forward. The staff was friendly and able to answer all of our questions. Dr. Tofflemyers thorough explanation of what was wrong, the procedure, and what to expect over the next two weeks really put our minds at ease and gave us full confidence in Guardian.
My sweet baby boy passed during the night and allowed me to bring him in… they were so kind and allowed me the time I needed to process what had happened because I was distraught. I’ve never experienced this level of care with my previous dogs and it truly made this difficult situation better. I will forever be grateful for the kindness they showed me. Thank you Brendan and Linda for you help.
This place would get a 0 STAR. WORST vet clinic I have ever been too. They will steal your money and have no sympathy for you or your pet. Do not come here, they charge $180 fee JUST to see your dog. No tests nothing. $500 for an x ray. The estimate was $10,000 for Blatter stone surgery for a small dog. This place will hold your dog in a cage barking until you pay the fee. Absolute horrid experience.
MY DOG DIED BECAUSE OF THE CARELESSNESS AND NEGLIGENCE OF THIS PLACE! and I wish I could give them negative stars as a rating.!!! The pain I have endured as a result of Aces premature death has been indescribable and unbearable. I would hate for someone else to go through what I have experienced. Our pets are our babies, our best friends, our sources of unconditional love and when we bring our babies to vets, we hope and trust that they will provide the best care. Unfortunately this has not been the case for my sweet Yorkie Ace...I brought Ace in through the ED for neck pain on 12/17. He was originally prescribed Gabapentin for pain and Carprofen an anti-inflammatory. I took Ace off of the Carprofen on 12/22 because he was lethargic and the pain subsided temporarily. I suspected he had arthritis. On 12/24 we returned to the ED because the pain seemed to have returned. We were sent away and told to come back on 12/26 but this time Ace was prescribed Dexamethasone- A STEROID. There was a two day washout period of no meds and after doing my own research, i learned from MY OWN RESEARCH that an appropriate washout period for dog going from anti-inflammatories to steroids SHOULD BE 5-7 days otherwise the effects could be fatal. We returned for a visit on 12/26 and Aces health began to decline rapidly. On 1/9 I begged the doctor to please take Ace off of the steroids. Ace was now immobile, urinated constantly, developed sores on his now large/swollen protruding belly, extremely lethargic, stiff muscles, and the doctor said he gained 4lbs in 2 weeks. At NO POINT WAS Aces blood drawn, an ultrasound done to inspect the cause of his extremely large/bloated belly. I was told to stop giving him so much water, we cut the steroid regimen in half and to come back in two weeks. We returned to the Emergency Dept the next day because Ace was throwing up all day and lost a significant amount of weight. The ED Dr. told me Ace was dying. He was throwing up blood and the vomiting caused rupturing of his spine. Ace was paralyzed from the neck down and had a fever of 107 and was was in respiratory distress. Ace could no longer breathe on his own. The doctor told me that if I leave, Ace would most likely pass overnight and there was no hope. I stayed with my baby in the hospital until he took his very last breath. Letting go of him was by far one of the most difficult things Ive ever gone through and the drive home seemed to have last hours. After waiting a week, I called the hospital for his ashes only to find out they had them for at least day but Were so busy they forgot to call me Imagine picking up your ashes to get a call THE NEXT DAY, from Guardians receptionist saying, We have Aces ashes here... I froze, then panicked and asked her then whose ashes did I just pick up yesterday??? She asked me if I called them and how I got the ashes? She became flustered and hung up the phone on me... I checked the labels on the bag, urn and contacted the crematorium to make sure I had the right ashes. Imagine how traumatizing that is after everything else that happened. After Ace passed, I tried to figure out what happened. I suspect the two day washout period coupled with the administration of steroids caused IATROGENIC CUSHINGS DISEASE. So much could and should have been done to prevent my dogs passing. We were there the day before he died and nothing was done. Pet parents- be weary, ask questions, do your own research and if something doesnt seem right, trust your gut! Dont go through what I went through. Find a place who cares about your pet and communicates with you.
Excellent specialists! We brought our Frenchie who has a hermevertibrae to see Dr Berg and he took time to speak to us, reviewed his case, took vitals and did not even charge us. He said there was no reason to do imaging and since he was not worsening sent us home to do bed rest and remain on Gabapentin. Really an excédent neurologist/neurosurgeon and person! Would highly recommend.
Brought our dog nova to this place on Tuesday. They held her until 8PM to do some tests and sent her home with seizure medication. We have yet to hear back regarding the test results. We have called multiple times regarding what is actually wrong with our dog and have been told we will get a call back. We understand it is a very busy facility but 4 days with no answer is ridiculous. The care she received from the vet techs was wonderful but not getting any answers back for days really is unprofessional and unacceptable. We would like to know what is wrong with our dog.
Our pets recovery is currently a work in progress, but I cannot say enough positive things about The Guardian, Dr. Tofflemire, his assistant Jordan, and all the other staff that we have encountered. Each and every one has been professional, patient, and kind! I am grateful for their one day at a time approach, the level of information and communication during decision making, the enthusiasm toward out pets recovery, and the genuine love and kindness they have shown Levi. We live 2 hours away from the hospital, but can rest assured that he is receiving the best of care ;-)
This place felt like they treated my cat like a human patient at a human hospital. They’re about as legit as they come and their staff is knowledgeable. If there’s a long wait it’s likely because they’re dealing with some gnarly patients inside.I took my cat here on short notice with some fairly serious symptoms and it honestly made me feel better that she was in knowledgeable hands. Thank you in particular to Dr. Toro who was quite willing to talk in detail with regards to symptoms and treatment.Edit 1 month post-treatment: Guardian has done an amazing job with continuing the quality of care through follow-ups. These folks clearly take a technical approach to their care and consider all the details. I‘ve heard of human hospital experiences with less compassion and seriousness than Guardian. So glad I am able to feel confident in my cat’s prognosis.
Our 2nd time bringing one of our animals to Guardian for emergencies since 2020. Last time we had to wait in the car, but this time being in the waiting room and seeing how busy they are, wow, were especially appreciative. The entire staff has been welcoming, understanding, and compassionate with both the people and the animals who came to their facility today. Thanks
One of the scariest and most stressful experiences was when my toy poodle fractured his leg. Guardian was a gift, from the Emergency Care that got him stable to the rapid response in setting up his surgery. Susie immediately recognized the urgency of the situation, and Mike was so patient, calm, and communicative throughout the whole ordeal, including staying in close touch after he left the hospital. I am so grateful to the entire team for taking such good care of our fur baby. Even though the facility is 90 minutes away from us, Id return again and again for this high quality of care. Thank you!
GO ELSEWHERE - THEY ARE LIARSI could not remove the 5 stars from my previous review. I would put a 0 if I could. I brought my cat Scout (male) , not female like they keep saying. The surgical tech scheduled us with Dr. Heart/Hart on May 11th. Dr. Harts office calls us anfld tells me thats not true. Well, after the May 11th appt scheduled, I called another facility I had an appt for May 19th and canceled. Dr. Heart/Harts office called to tell us thats not true. The appt we have is for June 19th. Well, what am I supposed to do now. Scout is dragging himself on the floor with a knee cap out of the socket. How the hell can I wait until June 19th when my cat is suffering so badly. Dr. HEART/HART cant do emergency surgery? IF Dr. HEART/HART WAS DRAGGING HIMSELF ON THE FLOOR FOR THE SAME REASONS, HE WOULD NOT WAIT TWO MONTHS (FROM MID APRIL) TO HAVE SURGERY.I GUESS DR. HEART/HART IS UNABLE TO PERFORM EMERGENCY SURGERIES, THEN WHO THE HELL NEEDS HIM?THANK YOU TO THE SURGICAL TECH AND DR HEART/HART BY MAKING THIS SITUATION SO MUCH WORSE, RATHER THAN BETTER. NOW I HAVE TO START ALL OVER AGAIN AND TRY TO GET SCOUT IN TO SEE AN ORTHOPEDIC SURGEON. A WASTE. PATHETIC! ITS AN ER VET HOSPITAL. HELLO!
Highly recommend them! My dog broke his leg during the pandemic and I was not near my usual vet. Most vets refused to accept new patients because of the pandemic and other animal hospitals I called said I would have to wait a week or more before he could have surgery. Guardian veterinary specialists saw us right away and my dog had a successful surgery the next morning. Dr. Hart was great! He took the time to explain everything that was done very clearly and always followed up when I had questions. My dog is fully healed and I am very grateful for the staff especially after hearing many people who’s experience with their dog following the same surgery elsewhere was not positive.
I took my dog here for emergent concern that she may have a small bowel obstruction. The emergency vet did nothing but admit her to the hospital, planning on two days, with no diagnosis, no workup, and then gave attitude when asked why the bill was already for two days of hospitalozation despite no workup having been done. When I asked if they could just draw her blood and take the x-ray or US and let us take her home (she was still drinking water and stable), they refused and said she was too sick so they couldnt release her to me. Sadly, she ultimately had a terrible GI cancer and there was nothing that could be done, and ultimately she was released to me 12 hours later, sticking me with a bill for an admission I didnt want.Even though a big deposit had already been paid online, they spent almost an hour making sure the bill was sorted while we waited outside, eager to take our beloved dying dog home to visit with her family. Just to be clear this wasnt because of any issue with payment, I was waiting to hand them my credit card, they literally took an hour just to figure out what the charges were and couldnt release her until that was completed. In addition, when I discussed with the internist in the morning (who, to be fair, was quite kind) we discussed that due to her poor prognosis, we would be arranging to have her put to sleep that evening or the following morning with her home vet. When they finally released her to us, they attempted to give and charge us for 3-4 medications that were never discussed and not necessary.Also- be careful letting them put you on hold. Twice I was forgotten about and after ten minutes on hold and had to call back and didnt need to be out on hold, meaning that someone had been available but they just forgot someone was on hold.As a medical professional myself, I am very displeased with how all of this was handled, particularly the emergency vet. The internist however, should be commended for his kindness and ability to clearly explain the diagnosis and prognosis on the phone. Sadly, that one redeeming vet is not enough for me to ever consider recommending this place or ever returning.
Woke up this morning one of my very special senior cats was not himself. Sick stomach, tired and just off. My great vet was filled today but recommended this place. This same cat was bought here a few years ago with a great experience back then. The staff is very friendly and timely on the phone and in person. I know my boy was in great hands. He is having kidney issues and got him comfortable so I can bring to my regular vet in the morning. I would highly recommend these find people for an emergency.
I love Dr. Tofflemire and his staff - they are always so kind. Due to curbside, I havent had interaction with many other people, and I cant wait until we are able to be back in the building - my Logan gets so nervous at the vet. Rebeccas compassion towards Logan does help.
My dog Bruno was struck suddenly with GDV, aka, dog Bloat. Guardian and the amazing work of Dr. Runge saved his life. Most dogs die from GDV is not operated on within hours of symptoms. I am thankful for the staff and their concerns and professional support. Bruno even had his own attendant!
After a $3500 bill for a two night stay and countless tests and procedures only to find out after throwing up and having diarrhea through the night. They gave our 8 year old corgi Billie, a multitude of medications that didnt seen to do anything. Then we come to find out Billie has a large wound under her leg that wasnt there when we brought her. After calling the guardian they ensured us to just clean it and now our dog Billie is constantly panting and in severe pain and we have to take her to another veterinary clinic and hope there are no more serious issues. Will never return to Guardian again.
I am very pleased with Kelseys treatment and progress. She had a hemalaminectomy in late July 2021 that was performed by Dr. Gibson. Dr. Gibson explained the surgery to me and went over the options available. Kelsey started physical therapy a few weeks later with Dr. Whitlow and the rehab team. Her progress and recovery have been remarkable. She is back to her former self! the personal care and interest in Kelseys progress is gratifying.
Unfortunately I had to put my 13 year old lab to sleep yesterday 5/7/21, the staff was so nice and caring and made us feel at home. The setting was like we were in our own living room filled with pictures, couches and dog pillows. We got to spend time with my boy Jake before and after the procedure. My heart is broken not being able to go home with my buddy. I just want to say to the staff, the love and compassion you showed my family and I made this difficult process a bit more easy, and that means a lot.
We took our dog here referred by our vet. Spent about 8K. You will only speak to Dr Berg to sell you on the tests and never hear from him again. Every time you call them for anything it’s a 30-60min hold because they are “slammed.” They don’t know what they prescribed your dog and can’t be bothered to look before they tell you a new prescription. They are too busy to care. I’ve never been robbed but this is probably a similar feeling. Take your dog somewhere else if they have neurological problems.
My dog has received the most courteous and professional care as a patient in the Rehabilitation department. We had an initial complementary neurological eval with Dr. Eich the neurologist prior to beginning therapy. Dr. Eich was very kind and friendly and thorough and listened and answered my many questions. I never felt rushed or talked down to!!The rehab department is awesome and we attend weekly. Dr. Whitlow is also very personable and super knowledgable and skilled at her profession. The staff including Samantha and Lisa are wonderful and I really feel my dog is in the best hands and they truly care about her and improving her quality of life as best possible. She has a degenerative spine condition which in incurable but it is possible to slow the progression with physical therapy and I know I am in the best place!!! I am very pleased and happy my dog is in their care😀
This is nothing but a MONEY HUNGRY HORRIBLE PLACE. No concern at all for my dogs welfare. In fact when i explained to the woman reviewing my estimate. For a potentialy deadly piometric infection. I explainedi was on a limited incom SSD. And asked to set up some affordable payement. She reluctantly turned toe and said sorry the price is the price. But you can take out a GO FUND ME PAGE. I looked at her in astonishment and said. Thats usually something that is tragic like a home fire, someone with cancer.. she turned to me and said im sorry then. Then i said i want my dog back she said you need to pay $180 to get your dog back. Horrible horible experience..
We were so distraught on Christmas Day when our 7 yr old dachshund, Nathan, was dragging his back legs. We went to Oradell but they couldn’t help us and sent us to Guardian animal hospital. I took the ride up there and they saw us right away. Dr Berg took the time to explain what was going on and what needed to be done. They called everyday as promised to give me update after his MRI and his surgery. He couldn’t walk at all when we brought him in and now , 4 days later he is using his back legs. I was so pleased with the staff, the doctors and all the nurses that worked so hard to help my Nathan get better. Thank you guys so much!!
I brought my Japanese chin that is 12 1/2 years old, which had multiple health issues I also addressed that my dog was blind so they would go gentle with the dog and they put more emphasis on my dogs eyes than what they initially did with her underlying condition. My dog was held in a cage for almost 4 1/2 hours while the tech was doing estimates with other potential customers. At this point I had asked if I can go inside and be with my dog and I still had to wait for the tech to come out doing estimates finally I got my dog and some random person brought it to me didn’t tell me the diagnosis of the dog or condition or anything just give me a bag of medication and sent me on my way. They gave me medication for seven days using it twice a day on the dog the medication didn’t last three days I had nothing left in a spray bottle to spray on my dog I called them up the next day they were supposed to get back to me and they never did no follow up no nothing zilch nothing period…
Wow. Wow. Wow. Is all I can say. They are quick and professional here. From calling to coming in to keeping me up to date they are amazing. I called them they gave me directions on the phone and i walked in and they were quick to get my dog in to help. They came out kept me updated. Gave me an estimate of what they were doing and prognosis. I came in for an emergency for my dog. They made me feel at ease. I will save their number and use them in the future. A+ to the staff and triage team!
On September 1, I brought my 6 year old cat to Guardian for a neurology consultation. Out of the blue, Leo was lethargic, unsteady on his feet and walking in circles. Blood work, urine sample and x-rays at my vet’s office revealed nothing. I’ve always relied on Animal Medical center in NYC for illnesses which don’t seem routine, but my vet mentioned Guardian, and given the difficulty with traffic and parking at AMC, I decided to try them. It turned out to be a real mistake. Dr. Gibson met with me after examining Leo and told me they should do an MRI, which they did that day. Dr. Gibson said there was a mass on his brain and recommended brain surgery. The surgery was performed the next day, and that night Dr. Gibson called me and told me that she removed a large mass from Leo’s skull and she believed it was an infection. They did a biopsy and a culture and Leo recovered from the surgery nicely. I saw him the next day and brought him home a few days later. Dr. Gibson told me she would be away for 5 days, but I got a report every morning he was in the hospital from one of the neurologists. They sent him home with 2 antibiotics and a painkiller. Leo was very difficult with taking pills, but my neighbor and I managed, with help from a pill popper. Over a week passed, with no report on the culture or biopsy. Finally, on September 14, Dr. Gibson called to tell me that biopsy showed malignant lymphoma, not an infection at all. She saw Leo a week later to remove stitches and asked me about radiation and chemo, which I declined. She told me to bring Leo in 3 months later for a check up. Leo died on October 15. He got worse every day and I had to see the life go out of this wonderful, caring, funny little guy! I emailed Guardian general email address, which at times is the best way to reach them, rather than stay on hold for long periods of time to leave a message. I advised them and asked that they advise neurology department. A week went by without any call or acknowledgment. I emailed again and asked if they had passed along my message. No response. My vet sent me the most heartfelt written condolence note and I was very surprised not to get any sort of acknowledgment from Guardian. I then sent an email asking questions as to Leo’s care and diagnosis. I received an email from the head vet in Emergency Services (?), who told me she spoke with Dr. Gibson, who advised her she was thorough, offered me info re consultation with Oncology Department, and followed up. I then asked further questions and got no reply for over a week. By now, I am frustrated and angry. I got a very nasty reply. Still no note. I believe Guardian rushes you into surgery without taking the entire animal into consideration, not just the obvious immediate issue. I believe Leo had cancer in other organs. I would not have done the surgery had I known this beforehand. But that’s on me. I should have gotten a second opinion. But that doesn’t excuse the lack of communication and response to questions and certainly not the lack of any sort of response to Leo’s passing. Nothing would have prevented Leo dying, but it didn’t have to be this way. NEVER AGAIN. Go to AMC. Always get a second opinion. There’s a reason these doctors are in Brewster and not Manhattan.
My diabetic pup developed cataracts about 2 months ago. In diabetic dogs, they can go blind in as little as 2 days but more likely from 2 weeks to 2 months from initial diagnosis. I called all ophthalmologists within a 100 mile radius from my home. All of them were booked out months from the time of my call. I asked all of them to put me on the waiting list in case of a cancelation. Guardian was to first to call with a cancelation.Dr. Kyle Tofflemire has been amazing. He walked me through all the possible risks of the surgery. He was very patient with me and very clear. He spoke to me in a way I could understand him. We are more than 1 month past surgery, and I could not be happier with the doctor, all of the staff, and most importantly n the success of the surgery. I highly recommend Dr. Tofflemire and Guardian..
The staff was very nice and accommodating. It took a long time but it was very busy. I was there for an emergency on Christmas day and it was packed with people. Weird, but not anything the practice can control. Im so glad you were open on Christmas day as my dog ate something and had a bad allergic reaction.
I took my cat to Guardian when he stopped walking and had difficulty with balance at the recommendation of our local animal hospital to see a neurologist, so I brought him in for a consultation. The front desk staff was friendly. The veterinary technician we saw was knowledgeable, making sure she got all the details about my cats ongoing issue, and I could tell she really cares about the families and animals she sees at the practice. The Neurologist, Dr. Gibson, was beyond excellent as well- she is obviously very experienced in the field and made me feel at ease when I went in fearing the worst for my poor little cat. We left there with hope. We will be continuing his tests and necessary treatment there. I never felt that my beloved cat was just another number. I cant say enough good things about my experience at Guardian.
Very busy and beautiful place. VERY expensive. I was told after I took my pet there that this is where people from the city come up for emergencies, so I now understand the inflation. If you truly believe your pet will not make it through the night, & you have the capability to drop a minimum of $1-3,000, then yes. You should come here. If this matter is urgent, but not emergent & your pet can wait until the following day when their usual vet office is open, then please do just that. The estimate they gave me was so outrageous, I waited until the next day and the normal vet bell was only $647 compared to Guardian’s $2000. I have no doubt this is a very wonderful place that can save your pets lives. But IF possible, try and get medical attention before your vet closes at 6pm…
I was happy to see that the doctors and staff really do care about our animals. They took everything into account when recommending treatment. They understand most people don’t have a pile of cash waiting around for us to use at our disposal. We came up with a good plan with all factors in mind. I am happy I found them!
How unprofessional that after writing the review I wrote about my experience, a lie has been posted as a response to my review. I was never offered for this procedure to be done the next day after Dr. Sirois cancelled our procedure. And I cannot believe that it was written that it was not an emergency after waiting for this procedure a week after we saw another Dr. Which told us this procedure was indeed necessary. I am not arguing the procedure or price, as I approved it and was expecting for it to be done to find out if my dog had cancer or a fungal infection as we were told by your doctors and our primary doctor. How dare you say you offered an appointment the next day. Your facility is even more disgusting and unprofessional than I thought. Absolutely horrible! Please dont take your pet there if you want professionalism and honesty.
First time visiting. My dog has dry eye and I met with Dr. Kyle Tofflemire. I was impressed with how he communicated with me and did not quickly jump to a surgical solution. He took his time and was extremely friendlyHis staff were all warm and friendly and super nice to my fur baby.I would highly recommend!
USED TO BE GREAT. Last night and this morning I had the absolute WORST experience with the vet tech staff at GVS. They are RUDE, unprofessional!!! Front desk is great and helpful. Doctor was ok but clearly overwhelmed as the vet techs seem to be incompetent and complacent. Fees were ridiculous. NO ONE came from the back to assist me with understanding what the treatment is for my pet or what to expect when I get home. In fact, the receptionist saw were waiting for over 30 min after we were told our pet was ready to leave; so she went to get our pet for us because she even knew that no tech would bring her out.Additionally, they used to work directly with pet insurance companies. They only now work with one directly, with out notice to past clients.DO NOT GO HERE. GO SOMEWHERE ELSE.
My dog has a severely contagious disease that they knew about but didn’t tell us. Instead they just pushed us out the door with meds (that didn’t help) and gave me a pretty bill. Because her symptoms where getting worse that night I dropped her off the next morning at my local vet to get testing done…only to get a frantic call in the afternoon saying my dog has a contagious disease and the entire office has to be shut down and disinfected, only hoping the other dogs there didn’t cross contaminate. My vet told me Guardian had this contagious disease in their notes but still never brought it up to us.
They have saved several of my dogs and Dr. Berg, Dr. Runge and the team work tirelessly to save and care for their patients. The vet techs are tops and really care, and go so far out of their way to not only help your pet, but also to reassure the owners that everything is being done to assure the best outcome. Amazing facility and stFf!
I had the best experience . The entire staff was incredibly friendly , professional and caring .I went to 2 other neurologist before choosing guardian and Dr.Joseph to take care of my 2.8 lb dog . They were incredibly fair in pricing . I cant say enough good things about this hospital . I am incredibly picky when it comes to the care of my beloved dogs .. Thanka again to the amazing and kind staff for taking amazing care of my baby!Jodie

2022-08-30Literally saved our dogs life. We were so pleased with the outcome of our dogs emergency surgery. The staff was thorough, helpful and kind. I was away on vacation when my dog was brought in, but they were very reassuring and made me feel like she was in the best of hands. They made it a point to call me right before and right after the surgery to keep me updated (knowing I was away and couldn’t be there). We will continue to come to Guardian for all of our dog’s health needs. Our Ruby girl is so happy to be back to herself again! Thank you, Guardian!!!

2022-07-05Had to bring our cat in on a Sunday over the holiday weekend which was nerve-racking enough, but the entire staff was beyond patient and empathetic. I truly appreciated the care we received. Communication was constant and the entire staff was extremely professional. They were patient and kind with any questions or concerns we had. While we had to wait a few hours, the care our cat received was top notch. She is doing better already and I will always go here for emergency care.

2022-07-11Our dog has been to most of the specialists in NYC, none of any treatment works. Guardian neurology and internal medicine department provides us with the best treatment and results. Her neurology has visibly been improved and she is doing much better.

2022-03-05First off I want to say by looking at the other reviews I agree it’s expensive. People have to understand this is a hospital and these are emergency visits. We had a very sick kitten who first developed vestibular disease. Then a few days later he started to have seizures at only 13 months old. We brought him to Guardian and they helped us immensely. We couldn’t figure out what was going on with him. We had to visit guardian 4 times in one month because he kept getting sick. Dr.Burke was honest us with and explained that sometimes it can be very difficult to diagnose animals especially when their are problems with the brain. We spent thousands of dollars on our kitten and every dollar was worth it. We were able to spend another 8 months with Chewy. I wanted to say thank you. I understand not everybody had a positive experience here but I would still 100% recommend for you to bring your animal here.

2022-09-13My little dog Leo sustained a spinal cord injury while playing with my lab, and was unable to walk. Dr Toro was the ER doctor the day we brought him in. She was exceedingly kind to us. The entire staff was very nice and very competent. Dr. Gibson the neurologist who assessed Leo, ordered an MRI, and thankfully he did not need surgery. Dr Gibson prescribed rest and meds, and two weeks later Leo is starting to walk a little, and is making a good recovery! I want to thank the entire staff at Guardian, including Becca, the vet tech who took very good care of my little Leo.Theresa Flora

2022-01-15Dr. Jason Berg exceeded ALL of my expectations! I found his name several months ago when my male cat became very ill with neurological issues. I never had the chance to schedule a visit because he passed away. There were only 2 emergency/ specialty hospitals (outside of AMC) I was interested in,- Guardian and Cornell (has proximity yet Dr. Bergs background, demeanor, facility, experience and the special treatment we feel that he delivers is well worth traveling for! Over the yrs, we have taken pets to local emergency animal hospitals in our vicinity, that have only 2 and 3 stars, many of which have long wait times, people are frazzled. The treatment that the doctor and staff provided that are most Important were the warm encounter with our kitty, and the doctors articulate communication so that we felt that we thoroughly understood her situation before we left the premises. Some veterinarians are intelligent but they dont like to communicate with the family members (primarily humans) so I sought out a vet who possessed intelligence and warmth (someone who doesnt mind communicating with humans! I need someone who is tactile and can articulate! Im demonstrative and all of the pets Ive had are sweet because Ive imparted nothing but love, which is why she exuded sweetness. All of our pets have had different personalities, but the commonality they share is love. I appreciate the warmth and love the doctor and staff give our pets! I will drive for miles to receive that and they likely wont fear the hospital too much!

2021-12-31Everyone from front desk to vet techs to docs and surgeons are excellent advocates and communicators to help let parents understand and take appropriate action steps to care for the sick pet. We left our dog for 5 days for a spine surgery and had no doubt he was being loved in addition to his medical need addressed. We were also grateful our estimates were itemized and also our total came in under the estimate for both diagnostics and surgery. We drove hours to and from this place because we heard it was the best for challenging neurological issues and we cant agree more. Our puppy seems cured and on his way to a full and active life!

2022-05-05Exactly how an emergency room should operate! You saw Bruce immediately and treated him. The staff worked together seamlessly. They will be there when your loved one needs help. I saw about a dozens animals with different situations come in and they took them in and did their best.Bruce may not have outwardly appreciated his cone, but our family thanks you so much taking care of him today!

2022-03-24I cant say enough about the superior care my dog received in the oncology department yesterday. This practice is the absolute best. The level of medical expertise & personal care was amazing. Dr. Impellizeri & Michele rose way above my expectations.

2022-01-24I absolutely loved my visit today! All of the staff + Dr Dan made my dogs feel so special. There was a lot of time taken just to get to know them, understand their medical history, as well as their odd quirks. The staff and Dr Dan went above and beyond to make my nervous pups feel at ease. I am so happy i have a local vet I can trust! The time you took to love and get to know my dogs was so special for all of us.
