Anytime you have to go through family court, its never an easy process. I was referred to Richard Gunger Law Firm from one of my friends, who was dealing with a similar situation. He told me that if I hired Mr. Ginger, that Id have nothing to worry about.I went for a consultation with Mr. Gunger. Im usually a pretty good judge of character, and within 10-15 minutes of meeting him, and taking my friends advice, I decided to hire Gunger Law Firm to represent me during a difficult time.Throughout the process, Richard and Patrice (who is pretty great herself) were super informative. Mr Gunger took my case within a two day notice. He and his team were very prompt about returning phone calls and answering any questions I had. When it came time for our court appearance he was a extremely prepared and was respectful yet assertive with the Judge and other Court personnel! I was very impressed with his ability to change the dynamic of the court room quickly in my favor. The Judge was very welcoming and listened intently to what Richard was saying and even thanked him when he concluded arguing my case. I ended up with an extremely favorably resolution and carefully adhered to Richards advice from day one. Im so glad that I did! I finally resolved my divorce and custody case and I cannot tell you how pleased I am that I hired Mr Gunger in this matter. I originally began with another local Attorney who was not very aggressive and did not have a decent bed side manner. I decided to switch attorneys and my former attorney actually recommended Richard. Right away Richard and I clicked as he made me feel very welcome and was extremely outgoing. The minute I walked into court with him I could tell that he was very well respected by court personnel and the judge. While we were finishing the custody part of my divorce, the judge seemed to already have his mind made up , but after Richard made a very persuasive argument on my behalf, the judge actually ruled in my favor on parenting/visitation issues. Even the Attorney for the Child that disagreed with my previous lawyers position spoke after Richard on my behalf and said that she was convinced that Richards arguments were in my childrens best interest. If you want an attorney that will fight for you in a compassionate yet aggressive manner Richard is your man. Finally, he never tried to mislead me or simply tell me what I wanted to hear to just get my money. He was extremely down to earth and explained my rights without guaranteeing any one specific result. I did however obtained the best result and would without hesitation recommend calling Richard if youre in need of an awesome lawyer who is friendly, honest and reasonably priced based upon his many years of experience.
You know you are in capable hands from the first consultation. Richard took a tremendous amount of time from the initial consultation to numerous meetings in his office to explain the ins and outs of my case. He never talked down to me or to my family members and was super down tho earth. Ive dealt with several Lawyers while I was an Officer in the Navy and Richard would be an excellent JAG Attorney. I asked him if he would consider doing some research on an issue for a friend of mine still in the Military and bill me separately. He completed the research within a week and I asked him to send me a separate bill. Richard did not send a bill and simply said to tell my friend thank him for his service to our Country. Richard recently handled a civil matter for me that ended up going to Court as the offer to settle was not acceptable to me. He took a great deal of time for me to completely understand the offer and highly recommended that I turn it down. Not sure what to do Richard suggested that we litigate the case. He told me to be patient and was extremely confident that we could receive a better result with a trial. Thank goodness I listened to him. Although the trial calendar was put out two months, Richard took time to review how a trial works and reviewed with me what the other lawyer might ask me. He was impressive in Court and after waiting a couple of weeks for the Judges decision I am so grateful to Richard for taking his advise. I hired Mr Gunger to handle a case that I thought was honestly unwinnable. He indicated to me at my free consultation that he would research the law at no cost and would get back to me in approximately 3 weeks. After about 2 weeks I received a call from his secretary indicating that I needed another appointment to speak with him. Mr Gunger advised me that he had found a case similar to mine and suggested that we start a lawsuit. He didnt guarantee me any particular result but was very positive although I continued to doubt my case from day one. A lot of it was he said she said. When it was time to go to Court Mr Gunger called 2 witnesses and was totally prepared on all of my facts after he asked me to do a diary of them. After waiting a month for a decision from the court I was shocked to see that we had won the case. Mr Gunger obtained a judgment for me and is working on collecting my money free of charge. I could not be more happy on how well my case was prepared from start to finish. He is all business and won my case when I never thought I had a chance. I was very fortunate to find the Gunger Law Firm on such short notice. I was arriving in NY and needed to find a lawyer with less than 2 days before my custody hearing. What an excellent Attorney that helped me greatly. I retained this firm for a criminal matter and I was facing jail time. Mr Gunger spent months on my case with numerous court appearances. He would not take the two offers made on my case as they would have resulted in me doing jail time and losing my job. Ultimately I plead to a reduced charge and only had to do community service. He literally saved me my job and my family. His legal fee was worth every last cent. I offered to pay him more money as I know the case took months to settle. He refused to accept any additional money from me and reminded me that he quoted me a flat fee during the initial consultation. Most honest lawyer Ive ever dealt with!!!! A+++++++++

Simply put. If you are looking for a friend this is the lawyer to retain. If you are looking for a lawyer go elsewhere. Mr Gunger is friendly but I was very displeased with how my litigation case was handled. My case took 2 years to complete due to Mr Gunger cancelling on me 4 times. Twice he was sick twice he had a family emergency. My paperwork was mishandled and missing at time of testimony and he asked on two seperate occasions for more money. Very little guidance in regards to law and case handling. Spent $$$ on a lesson learned.

Paid Gunger $3500 for a small criminal case (misdemeanors). 4 months of not showing in court he stopped returning calls. The judge was angry at me. He made me look like an idiot. All he did for the $3500 was send a fax the day of court as notice he wouldnt be there. I had to hire ANOTHER lawyer. The next lawyer to help me with this case had nothing good to say about gunger either. Dont use him.

He was absolutely the worst attorney Ive ever had the misfortune of meeting. I met with him and all he wanted to do was sit there and rave about how wonderful an attorney he was but as it turned out he was anything but. I paid for him to handle a matter for my daughter and he continuously adjourned court and tried to overcharge us. I took a day off so that I could attend court with my daughter and at the very last minute, the morning of court, he had his secretary call to tell me that he had an emergency. It seemed that anytime I called the office he was never there. I was told that he was sick or had an emergency or 1 million other excuses as to why I could never get him on the phone. It was absolutely ridiculous. I found his behavior to be extremely unprofessional and realized that he could care less about the issues that my daughter had. He wanted to take her money and do as little work as possible. As far as Im concerned I wouldnt refer him to my worst enemy. I normally dont leave reviews because I cant be bothered but in this case, I felt that the public needed to be aware that they were not going to get what you pay for. Not by a long shot! If I could leave zero stars I would. Horrible!

2022-01-13Richard is not only an amazing lawyer but he goes above and beyond for his client. Richard was not in the office and he still worked from home to meet my request and my concerns for court. Not only does Richard do so much but his Secretary Patrice does so much for me. They go above and beyond for the clients. I would recommend Richard for anyone that needs a lawyer. 2022-03-16Richard is very personable to work with and is extremely patient and easy to work with. He is kind and explains everything to me in layman’s terms. Him and his Paralegal Patrice have done an outstanding job on my case. My stress level has gone way down.
