Gyu-Kaku Japanese BBQ in other cities:
So far this is now my favorite location. Missed happy hour but the drinks was worth every penny. I love the dining area at this location too. The prices seemed to have went up since I last went, especially for the sets so if you want to try it, go during happy hr and get the happy hour set or pay by the plate to try this and that. My favorite meat is the hanami beef. Cooks fast and tasty amazing. I also recommend getting the broccoli and roasting it directly on the grill (towards the end of the meal when the flame is lowered or cook it on the edge.) So good. Need to come back asap.
We were walk in guests. No reservations but the front attendee accommodated us but did nicely notified us that there is a reservation about an hour and a half later. We gladly took the free slot knowing we could finish our dinner within that time.We got the meat lovers set. And that’s all that you see in the pictures with this review. Except the extra order of hot sake on the side. This smaller size option was enough for me plus a few shots for me lady.We were left to cook for ourselves but I believe if you ask for assistance they could help you with cooking too. They did change the grill pretty often. The food portions was perfect for the two of us with a little left over to have it in to go boxes.Although there was a scheduled reservation after us, we were not rushed at all during our meal.
I was here this past Saturday around 6 p.m. with a reservation. The staff are robotic in telling you that you have 90 minutes for your meal. This location was not close to full or busy at all so it seemed liked overkill to keep reminding us of the time. Our waitress Jennifer rushed us throughout the meal. She came by multiple times within the first few minutes asking us what we wanted to order. This was before we even had our drink order in and it was a real turn off. The food was good though I wish there was some flexibility with the appetizers on the multi course meals. After Jennifer repeatedly came by she basically disappeared once our food started to come out. I sat with an empty drink glass and a request for more napkins finally came at the end of the meal. It was also awkward when it came time to pay that Jennifer stood over me while I had to input her tip on the mobile register she had. She promptly left without saying a word to us since I gave her 18% tip. The wait staff needs some serious retraining and how to deal with paying customers.
I went there last night with my wife and friend for dinner. First of all the place is a bit shabby inside. When you get inside youll notice that the seating areas are all old cracked vinyl and dirty. My shirt kept sticking to the back of the booth. When we got there we had reservations but they couldnt find our reservations because they did not know how to work their equipment. Finally we got a table and as I was walking back I noticed that most of the place has dirty floor boards, scuffed walls, and just overall looked worn and shabby. I also noticed a B health rating when I went inside from the health department so it looks like they should be doing better! If you plan to come here bring lots of money because its very expensive for what you get. Also during the entire dinner process we got lots of plates of foods and the employees kept coming over and grabbing my tongs and throwing meat on the grill. I wish I didnt have to use the tongs that the employees were grabbing to use as my own food service. All in all it was a complicated and expensive experience. Also dont buy the regular sake. Its practically water!
I love interactive restaurants where you get to cook at the table and have been wanting to try this restaurant for a while, but they’re always SO busy. Walked in at 5:05pm and was told we could be seated, but had to give the table back by 6:30pm. The overall experience was fun and tasty - I highly recommend it. As it was my first time dining here, the waiter explained the menu in detail offering suggestions, which I greatly appreciated. After placing our order, our drinks and food arrived very quickly and there was a steady flow of meats that followed. The restaurant has high ceilings and the atmosphere was relaxed with moderate lighting. My only complaint was a couple of pieces of meat were too fatty to eat, but otherwise the quality seemed good. Will definitely return if I can get a reservation or visit during an off time again.
We had a blast here. We didnt have a reservation but we were seated quickly. We started with drinks I had a mango drink. It was really good but no alcohol was in it definitely needed more lol. We ordered the meat lovers serves two people. And a side of beef Ramen. The food and sides were delicious. We had smores I end up burning mine but it was cool to do over the fire
Perfect date night or night out with friends/celebrations. What I love about the cook your own food as you eat idea is that it takes so much longer to finish and extends your night out. Convential eateries have you waiting forever and then by the time the food comes you scarf everything down and well now its time to go.Also the beef cuts were incredible. Super easy to cook. However we did not like the pork belly option. It was too fatty and burned super quick stinking up the entire place! Please warn patrons they should lower the heat before cooking any pork since it has too cook for longer.Miso soup was delicious and the prices were reasonable. $85 for 2 for a 2 hour bbq feast was a great value. Would definetly come back with a large group it would be very fun!
The food was great but the waitress never gave back our change (it was more than $5 and no it wasn’t the tip). She just completely disappeared for a good five minutes and when I tried to call her, she just looked at me and quickly walked away. I’m not sure if it was a misunderstanding or what. But I won’t be returning because of this.
Ugh 😩, I absolutely love the franchise however the workers not so much, I wish I had proof of the absolute terrible service. I went to the city and flushing location.HOWEVER!!!!!!!:This one was different I the waitress never showed up til we ASKED for her and she was standing there like she “hated hated” her job LITERALLY the only time she cared was when it came to the tipping. FOOD IS LITERALLY THE ONLY REASON I LOVE THIS PLACE
Service was great, the wait staff was really on top of everything. If you want to order alcohol go between 4-6, all drinks are half off and absolutely delicious. They have a lot of fruity cocktails and slushies as well as drafts and wines if thats more your thing. About 5$ a drink if you go then and even cheaper for the beers. You can pick a bbq package from the menu (fixed price) and each says how many people it would feed and which dishes are included. We had 4 people and the package was enough to fill us all (adults) even though we hadnt eaten all day. They do have many dishes to choose from their side menu if you want to add those to your meat set. They have chicken, pork, and beef all various cuts and marinades. Make sure to call ahead! They require reservations.
O.M.G. our food was fantastic. We eat lots of Japanaese and sushi, but first time for BBQ. We ordered a couple of appetizers and loved the takiyaki (octopus balls) and the spicy tofu was wonderful. We picked our own meats and veggies and everything was good. Best veggies were asparagus and spinach instead of broccoli, but meats were all great. The green tea dessert was delicious. We didnt have a reservatiin..reservation... were told it would be 45-50 minutes, but we could have appetizers in the bar. Wed barely decided what to ordercwhen they were able to seat us!!!We will definitely be trying the Atlanta location.
My favorite Gyukaku experience thus far after a disastrous experience at the Cooper Union location (only gave us one set of sauce for three people and the servers basically ignored us). I have gone to the Times Square location and the Cooper Union location in the past, but this one was most memorable in a positive way.We made a reservation for Saturday afternoon in mid October. Upon coming in, they had your temperature checked and asked us to fill out our contact info (for contact tracing purposes). I really loved the interior decorating as there was so much natural light coming in. We were served right away and we ordered a variety of appetizers, drinks, and the HH bbq course combo. They gave each of us utensils and our own sauce set (yay no sharing this time). The waiter was very attentive and came up to several times refilling our water, and asking if everything was okay (major redemption from the Cooper Union location). The meats with the BBQ were marinated really well and was delicious with the various sauces they provided. The appetizers were also really tasty and flavorful. At one point I had to dive into the rice as some of the dishes did get a little too salty. The drinks, which happened to be during HH prices as well, were an added touch to the experience (we each ordered two drinks each). They definitely did not skimp out on the alcohol as it did make us feel chipper (or maybe because we are lightweights). If you are in the mood for some Japanese bbq, I definitely recommend coming here. What makes this different from Korean BBQ is definitely the marinate, and Japanese tends to be more sweeter and flavorful than Korean BBQ.Note: It is best if you make a reservation ahead of time. Happy Hour normally happens from afternoon to 6pm everyday.
We got the meat lovers menu, which was enough for two people to eat. The sizes and the portions were good but the quality wasnt the best. The cost (we think) was a little bit on the expensive side but nothing too bad.Overall, pretty OK place for first experience with yakiniku but if you already tried, maybe skip this one.
The staff are very friendly. Didnt make a reservation but got seated very fast. Didnt take any pictures of the food because bro and I got so hungry and we ate the food. We ordered the meat lover plus additional ramen. The meat lover had enough meat for the two of us. The ramen was just so so because it was not their main food choice. Overall experience was good and had full stomach after.
The food is excellent. Happy hour is great and only at the bar in the front. Staff members lie about happy hour indicating it throughout the whole restaurant, we found that out at the table drink are double the amount. It difficult to understand staff. Female Management is not understanding to customers with reservations and did not leave a good impression after wait at the bar for 30 minutes in spend $80 at the bar. In spend $100 @ the table for two people. Poor Management in Customer relations.
We ate here 5 time in a row happy hour its good . But some restaurants need to improved servise at host station. I have visited all locations in New York my favorites are. Cooper plaza and the queen . The one on Florida if you ever travel there its super small but still they have great service . The menu its kind of different but hey you got options, follow me for more USA and I ternatuonal reviews. Amarican.asian.and more foodie and places I travel the world for you.
I love this Japanese BBQ chain store, This location is great. The servers are nice, friendly, and attentive to your needs. The food is great, its moderately affordable, lunch specials range from $10.95 to about $15 (before tax and tip) for a single person from opening until 3pm. And they have happy hour running for most of the day. Its a great place to go to with friends to barbecue together and the group food options usually have smores as a dessert 😋.
This is not my first time at Gyukaku, if youre not familiar with this type of BBQ, please read into it before you go. Tonights dining experience was very nice. We briefly waited for out table and our server was very nice. The food is always good. We went for the Valentines Day special. Of course, you can still order more BBQ add ons if youre still hungry. I suggest that if you do not order an appetizer(s), then go for it. Otherwise, its a lot of food. The cocktails were pretty straight forward. I wasnt expecting anything spectacular but they were enjoyable.I enjoyed the thin slices of beef paired with the sauces on the table.Theres this garlic chicken thigh that I think is fantastic. Especially if you dont want to just load up on beef. Watch out for slices of meat with a lot of fat. It can flare up, which usually isnt an issue. I try to brush it on the grill two or three times before setting it off center. My only complaint is small. The side salad had a bit too much dressing but lets be honest, who is going to a BBQ place to enjoy a salad? 10/10.
I love this Gyu-Kaku branch. More bigger than their other branch in Flushing. I love how the tables are arranged. If you want to see the city view, you can request to be seated by the window. Not only that... if you have someone special to bring on a date.. I recommend asking for the window seat tables :) You can choose to be seated facing the city view while cooking/eating your favorite dishes ^_^Their ambiance is okay, cleanliness of the venue is good. Service crew memebers are nice and accommodating. They have one common restroom which is also clean and pretty big for 1 person (no changing table for babies, but can fit 2-3 persons... if you have kids that need help to go to the bathroom). The food is really good. We ordered the fried Squid Cartilage (also known as Calamari), Avocado Salad + Chicken (you can add Chicken or Tuna. The chicken is a little spicy), Chili Shrimp Shumai (We asked for just the mild Spicy Shumai...-but theres no hint of that mild spiciness, so order the regular one), Bistro Hangar Steak, Shrimp Garlic, Sukiyaki Bibimbap (This was one of the dishes in the happy hour choices). The Bibimbap that I ordered is... more of rice with just a little beef on it.For our dessert, we had the Chocolate Lava Cake with Green Tea Ice Cream on the side and their Yakimochi Ice Cream - a must try! (both desserts are really good and are well presented especially the mochi Ice Cream with different flavors inside).I will definetly come back and recommend this place to my family and friends.
Meat eaters can’t go wrong at Gyu-Kaku. The lunch menu was perfect and the 3 meat selection was almost too much. The hanger steak was amazing. Overall fun to cook your own food and share different entrees. They were out of the sweet soy sauce which was so disappointing because it’s amazing to dip your meat in for added flavor. The other sauce options (ponzu and a hot/spicy) are fine but the soy is the star. Their salad dressing is also fantastic.I recommend booking on Opentable early if you are trying to make an evening dinner. The stairs are steep to walk up but their is an elevator in the adjoining building.
Not exactly their fault but the combo of poor entrance way design and limited space plus the fact that this is an in demand lunch spot in mid town make for a chaotic entry way / waiting -for-your-table experience. They also sat us awkwardly because the tables for parties our size were taken. The table grills are small and should be rectangular instead of small circles to maximize surface area for cooking. They seem to have a lot of minor but annoying design flaws. They also do this annoying thing where you have to order the meats in pre set mixed orders and are not allowed to do add ons... weird. That being said, the service was very good wait staff was excellent really...and the food was great. Our party had a really good time.
I’d give this place six stars if I could! Beyond a doubt some of the best food I’ve had in NYC! My fiancé and I stopped in at around 4pm somewhat out of the blue after seeing this place in the suggestions for nearby restaurants online, and luckily there wasn’t too much of a wait at that time, so we were seated immediately- which I don’t think I’d count on, considering they asked us if we had a reservation, and had mentioned they’d need to be sure we’d finished by 6pm since the dinner rush was largely reserved! The restaurant was on the second floor, and the steps was a little steep, though I do believe they have an elevator. The aisles was decently sized, enough that someone with a mobility aid like a walker or wheel chair could certainly get through, even if in some spots it may be tight. Looking through the menu, it was hard to choose, as so many of the options sounded absolutely delicious, but ultimately we went with the Meat Lover’s, which I believe was around $65 for what they advertised as a meal for two, but certainly gave us more than enough to eat and bring home. The staff gives you instructions on how long to properly cook the foods you’ve ordered, and instructions is written on the packet for chop sticks as well! The drink menu was surprisingly expansive, all things considered, and the house sake was fantastic; not so alcoholic that it felt like straight up rubbing alcohol like some inexpensive sakes do, but it definitely had a burn to it, and the flavor went fantastically well with the unique and tasty seasonings on the meats we’d ordered. My fiancé got some sort of mango based mix drink, which he reported was great. All in all, a ton of seriously yummy food for the price, good drinks, a fun atmosphere, and just all around a wonderful time. I’ll certainly be back!
Great Ambiance. We had the harami in secret pot which was delicious. The staff helps but we have to cook our own food. The Kobe meat was great as well. Japanese sake goes well with the meat. They have packages for group of people. We had the one for 6 people. It covered different meats - pork belly, Beef, shrimp and more. The quantity was satisfactory. They have some good dessert options. We went with the smores. Overall its a great experience
How did I not know of this place the entire time I lived in NYC!!??!! HOW!??!It took coming back here traveling for business to experience this place. It’s an experience! The food is amazing! Perfectly portioned meal size. We shared the Gyu-Kaku for 2 and it was very well flavored.I will definitely be coming back!Thank you!!!
Stopped by for a late night bite around 11pm and discovered it was happy hour as well! I was able to get an appetizer and saki for $13!!! Would love to go back to try the BBQ!The spicy tuna volcano consists of a fried rectangular cubes of rice topped with marinated tuna. Its only lightly spicy.
My sister made ressos via open table for a Mothers Day lunch and somehow we scored the private room in the back. The seating was a bit weird, as in you were sitting pretty close to the ground on these weird seats, but it wasnt uncomfortable - just different. Ive been to the Gyu Kaku in the East Village for dinner but I think my experience in the Midtown East one was a lot better (this might have also been due to the private room - made us feel like VIPs).For our party of six, we ordered two sets. I cant remember exactly which two but we had a ton of food including salad, miso soup, bibimbap, fried rice, shrimp, chicken, various cuts of beef, it was just A LOT. It was a little bit of everything, which was nice because we got to try a lot of things. Everyone was stuffed. It was a little bit too much food (since we also ordered some dumplings and calamari to start with), but we were still able to finish everything.Tip - they have a great happy hour menu. Its half off drinks and certain food items. My favorite is the spicy tuna volcano.
I’ve lived in Japan for 20+ years and was always a big fan of GyuKaku in Mukogaoka-Yuen. The selections are a bit different but the experience is very similar. The service at this resturant is good and was worth the trip to here (the other store near Times Square is nigh impossible to get a table during lunch time).I have a rating system when it comes to tipping and the staff here passed with flying colors (except 1). Although one person forgot to bring the soup and salad, I saw another person check my table and reminded the person that forgot. I never had to ask for anything and they did the drink refills and checkins at a good pace. Definitely 4/5 stars for the service alone.
Our whole evening was marred by being seated next to a 10 year old birthday party with about a dozen kids whose parents couldn’t care less how much noise they made. Annoyed that our hostess seated us there just because we went there with my son and daughter. It was so loud we couldn’t even finish our dinner it and had to rush out. When we complained about noise they offered to move us to the bar - which doesn’t work when you have a three year old! Won’t be going there again.
Great BBQ restaurant. Come here for the happy hour for half priced drinks and great prices for BBQ meats. You will have to BBQ your own food but thats the fun part. They have sets or a la carte but the sets are a better deal. The Fuji set is most economical but the Kobe set offers the premium meats. Each set comes complete with a soups, salads, rice, meats, seafood, and smores for dessert. Highly recommend this one.
Fun experience for a group. We went as a group of 6. We ordered one of the pre-selected options for a group of our size. Lots of food, and everything was great. My only downside that took away a star was the table was not large enough for our group and we were pretty squished in. It also felt like we needed to be constantly eating because food kept coming out fast, and there was limited room for any plates.
The two ladies there were rude. When me and my girlfriend got there no one was at the front desk so we had to wait. When she finally arrived we started talking for about 5 seconds until someone called and she told me to hold while having an entire conversation on the phone. She could’ve answered the phone and told that person to hold for a moment. Then she said ok im going to seat you just stay here and leaves. Another woman came to sit me and long story short we were standing infront for a while. The waiter however, whose name is “boat” was very nice and attentive to our table. I give him 5/5 stars.👍🏼
First time here. Hannah was my server. She was cool and patient. If you download the app you get free dessert before you leave plus $10 off your NEXT purchase of $30. I didn’t get any photos of the food we cooked or s’mores only video. So these are a few screenshots. The garlic shrimp was amazingggg as well as the seasoned meat that came with the $55 deal for 2 people. Four stars only because I wish the drinks were a bit more strong.
My husband is Japanese and is familiar with Yakiniku but this was my first time and, wow!! Super delicious and enjoyable! Even a Japanese was content with the food and service. We got the Chefs Favorite, which was enough food for two hungry adults. Rafael, our server, was so wonderful and helpful. We cant wait to come back!! (Just make sure to make a reservation!)
Beware they are ripping of tourists! Here is an attachment of the $120 set menu we ordered and the initial $194 bill which they tried to destroy when i asked them to explain and brought a corrected one. They apologized and said the system does that which bring more questions, do they rip everyone who doesnt check, because of their system? Everything aside, thry di not do anything to show they were really sorry??
The food was amazing, but grossly expensive. Yes, individually, the meats dont seem to cost a lot until you realize that you arent getting THAT much meat each serving. So as you order multiple to fill yourself up, the tab goes up very very fast. That being said, the meats were very tender and succulent. Cooking them medium-rare yields the best flavor. However, at the $50 per person that my friend and I ended up spending, Ill have to pass on future visits.
Been going here for many years, it has been great. The entire chain delivered great food but this one was also really good. It turns out recently, I have came 6 times since the pandemic, their quality has dropped. The staff is okay, if you ask for recommendations they will not tell you which one is better but instead the most expensive option. Still pretty good staff though. They stopped caring too much about the restaurant as well. If you ask them a question on the phone they dont pay attention to your question and give a wrong answer sometimes. Also, the beef sukiyaki rice bowl comes ready and other things that the waiters did infront of you. In the past they used to make it infront of you and they still do at other locations but not here. The most recent time we came, I made a reservation for 8:15 and they called me to change it (even though they confirmed before) to 9:15. Keep in mind that the kitchen closes 9:30 (I didnt know they closed at that time, when we called to ask what time the kitchen closes they said 10:30. It turned out that was when the establishment closed altogether and they didnt really think about what I asked them). After sitting down and seeing the menu, it was already 9:30 and we had to order everything at once. Considering that we will definitely order more stuff later, it isnt right to feel rushed to order everything together. When we sat down and ordered appetizers first, we were looking to order the meats when the waitress came to inform us the kitchen was closing and we had to order everything then. We got up and left and went to eat elsewhere that night. Still, the food is good but I recommend going to another location. Times Square location is my favorite after what used to be this one. In the future I hope it returns to the old service and quality it used to be. Since the appetizers were already ordered, the manager (very nice lady) told us for the inconvenience we could take those appetizers to go, free of charge. That is a considerate move my the manager and I appreciate that, so we left a normal tip and left. Please fix the restaurant! It used to be so good.
My friend made a reservation yesterday, and the girl who picked up the phone asked what is her last name. She repeated over five times and even spelled her last name. The girl was like Yu (her last name)? Yu Yu?, first name Yu last name Yu Yu? which sounds super impolite to us.The service during our dinner was fine, however, the food we ordered (80+ dollars combo) seems pretty average (the salad and the soup).. especially the Smore, I would be certain to say that this is the most speechless dessert I ever had..The meats were pretty good, maybe should not try the combo meal.
I can hardly understand why you keep telling us we only have 90 minutes. For at least 4 times during our dinner. And refused to provide a bigger table for 6 people because “the 90 minutes is started”. Are we having BBQ or taking an exam here. This is the fourth and also the worst GyuKaku I’ve been to. Train your employees please.
Love eating at this place. Been there more times than I can count and its always incredible. That harami pot steak was something else. Food is so good from the apps to the rice to of course, the meats! Love the experience of cooking your food and eating it right off the grill. Everything is quick to cook so youll be cooking while your eating. I usually go with a large group and we always designate like 2 cooks per grill and eat family style.Happy hour deals are great from alcohol and even some food, mon-thurs after 9:30pm. They also got an early happy hour before 6pm on some days. Desserts are also delicious and the smores are a must to complete the experience. Prices are very fair and very worth it.The last time I went I had some bad service but it was the only time so not upset about it. If you havent tried it, do yourself the favor. Also, great date spot, ask for window seating when making reservations. Which I always recommend. Also if you a group of like 8 or more, they have s private room you can request where you take your shoes off and sit on elevated floor/bench style tables.
Food good as always. Went for lunch and it was pretty busy. Got our orders in quick but the waitress didnt come check on us till the very end. We wanted to order multiple drinks but by the end of the meal we didnt feel like ordering second rounds as we just wanted to go at that point. Most other times the service is better so it was likely just an off day for them.
Very disappointed, pat was disrespectful and didn’t care for our party of 4. Did not want to sit us because it was near closing time and I also called and didn’t mention they were about to close. Weren’t very nice. Made fun of us because we were Italian, Will never ever will be returning back to this location. I verbally told her I will not be coming back and she responded “ that’s ok” with an attitude. Ok well I fill definitely will not be returning. What a shame!!
A very special lunch! You sit around a fire and grill your own stuff at your table. An interesting way of having lunch. For 10 to 20 USD you get a combination of soup, salad and meat or veggies. The latter you prepare yourself. Delicious. And entertaining.Very professional, quick service. Nice, bright atmosphere. Not expensive.Dont forget the Smores dessert!
I came to NYC for 4 days and came here the 4th day before heading out. Made reservations for 3 and was 35 minutes late because we werent familiar with the area and got lost. As soon as the hostess got to us, mind you, they were not busy Sunday at 1:35, she said itll be a minute. She returns and says okay, but Ill need you finnished and gone in an hour for another reservation. We just said okay...besides the rude hostess this place was the most amazing place with the greatest staff! Plus we made it for Happy hour! We ordered tons of different meats and the variety veggies, smores at the end and alot of drinks! Rainfall drink was the favorite the green tea something was 😫 strong but gross! I didnt see any young kids there, but I brought my son, 9 and he had an amazing time cooking! The waitress had no problem as all explaining anything to us! It also has an awesome view! Just advice, make your reservation, ask for a window seat, its a booth that seats 4. The sun was in my eyes until 3:00. So anytime after 3 at a window and itll still be happy hour! We stayed for 3 hours eating, drinking and ordering more food! LOL clean, great food, good waitress, clean bathrooms and great dine and experience!
Avoid at any cost. They have slipped their quality enormously. Meat was impossible to chew. We had to send away one of the dishes and spit out half of the others. Bibimbap do not have any vegetables in it anymore. Service was ok but the worst was sitting and hostess. So rude! I have been a customer of Gyu-Kaku for years now and I must say will have to limit my dining here. This location is literally NEVER AGAIN thanks to hostess Cho. Will go to 44th street from now on only if I have to.
Food experience was great. Very interesting actually. You buy the foods and cook it yourself on a grill in the middle of the table. Only reason I gave it 4 stars was because my food stuck to the grill and frustrated me lol. The drinks were good and the restaurant is great for social distancing.
Stolen my money!!Failed to deliver order. And the young girl at the front was seriously unhelpful in solving this issue for me.Post Mates delivery guy called to say he was outside of my hotel. Wasnt there. Didnt call me back - and his number was private. So I walked to the restaurant. Nooraan was there, who seriously needs to work on her customer service skills, and evidently be trained properly by this place.Continuously saying: weve done our bit, and given the food to the driver, and not attempting to find a solution, does NOT help!!!And dont keep answering the phone when youre in the middle of (meant to be resolving a situation) - it is incredibly rude.To the Manager on shift when I arrived- thank you so much for not having the balls to come and see me and help me. And to the other manager who never called me back with my details I left, well done. They have refused to give me a refund. For food I never received!!How on earth do you give my food to a delivery guy, who YOU or I cannot contact!?That doesnt make sense. Then outright refuse to refund me. Youve literally stolen my money from me.
The best Gyu-Kaku experience ever! All servers and staff were fantastic ! I complained sometimes for bad service at Gyu-Kaoru but today is one of the best service I ever had, based on my Gyu-Kaku experience of the last 10 years ! My server Sangi was great but all servers who helped me was beyond my expectation. I believe current manger must be doing a good job to make this place happy for customers and for staff !!!
I personally like places where you can cook your meal at your table. The meats are served cut up into well seasoned small pieces hus making it easier to eat without a knife. The wait staff was great. All of the employees I ran into had face masks which was great to see. Even though guidelines regarding use of facemasks because of COVID-19 were reduced, I felt comfortable dining at this restaurant, knowing that the staff are taking extra precautions. In summary, my wife and I had a great dining experience and would eat there again.
The food was soooo tasty! The only reason why I deducted a star was because for certain meat, they gave some pieces that weren’t whole. They were shredded and stringy with little to no meat on it. Hard to cook since they were so thin and small, so why even add it to our plate? All In all, the experience was great, and the s’mores at the end are a pleasant touch after working the grill. Just wish some of our pieces were cut better.
The staff seemed to be all over the place and didn’t really know what they were doing. I went yesterday with 2 other friends and decided on the lunch combo, which comes with miso soup, salad, and white rice. One of my friends and I decided on upgrading to garlic fried rice, which is $3 extra. Our raw meat comes in after the soup and salad along with only 1 bowl of white rice and no garlic fried rice. The garlic fried rice didn’t come in for almost half an hour and we even told one of the servers that we didn’t get the garlic fried rice (our server only came once to check up on us the entire time we were there so we had to tell someone else). Last time I checked, everyone sitting at a particular table ordering food should be getting their food at the same time. Or has it been that long in the pandemic that these staff have forgotten how to run a restaurant? Cherry on top: our bill came out to be $10 more than it should have been and we told one of the servers that the bill looked more expensive than it should be. She was rambling on about the tip and being pushy about it when a portion of our order was missing for most of the time and they were trying to steal money right in front of our faces. Would give one star, but the Kalbi chuck rib was delicious.TL;DR Paid extra for garlic fried rice that came in 30 mins late for no reason even after telling them we didn’t receive the portions. Bill was confusing to read and came up to be $10 more than it should’ve been.
I will forever come here!! I love their drinks and obviously food. If you get there for happy hour you wont regret it prices are great. My experience eating here is never disappointing staff are always on top of making sure your ok, if you want more drinks, if there are any issues with your grill or order they immediately attend to you up from when you get seated all the way until you finish they make sure your visit is all you want it to be. I recommend coming here with a love one or a family cause your gonna want to try and eat everything!!! If you go solo cheers my friend the food is well worth it quality of meat is outstanding. You wont regret it.
This place was amazing and I only went for drinks and appetizers during happy hour. Food is excellent! Their wings, spring rolls, and chicken salad were all top notch. I have been thinking about returning there after having a great first visit. This location was very crowded during rush hour and the bar situation was very tight, but I heard it was because they are renovation another location. I will be going back to try their BBQ.
Great experience! Got all vegetarian options and there were no issues. The experience and process of cooking everything as the meal progressed made the whole social aspect of the meal new and enjoyable. The food I got was great, too, and there are tons of choices and combinations for any dinner to construct their perfect experience. It can be expensive, (however not necessarily by NYC standards), and there are happy hour prices that make it more affordable. Also, the tea is complementary like many traditional Japanese restaurants.
Tried to book at weekend but was so busy we waited until Monday so if inclined book up early. The waiting staff were excellent taking time to chat and clearly explained how to get the most from the dining experience and what a great experience it was. Food quality and quantity was great as we opted for the $75 dollar combo meal which would easily feed 3 people. Beer prices also reasonable at $20 for a pitcher. Recommended
So we visited the two branches of this place, the one at 44th street was so good with fantastic experience from the amazing waiter named Em. This place has more of an average customer experience where you are too rushed, the waiters are not attentive and the quality of food is not as great. If you don’t like this branch, give the other branch a shot, you won’t regret it.
There was an hour wait. But the dining experience was terrific, the staff was cool, helpful and attentive. The menu was full of options, but I left still feeling hungry and smelling like fire and smoke so dont eat here and go somewhere nice after. This is perfect for just hanging out with friends or family. The drinks are really strong and delicious, try the mango.
As a first responder I’ve ordered the garlic noodle with garlic shrimp and received chicken. I do not eat meat and this could have caused some real damage. Irresponsible is an understandment but then I had to go and pick up the correct order. Smh mind you I ordered this via seamless
Poor service. Not very attentive and by the time the 1.5 hours was up, we didn’t even get to order all the food and weren’t hungry anymore from waiting. Also saw the front desk girl say no to a black couple that walked in without a reservation, but shortly took a group of 4 without a reservation (that weren’t black). Wouldn’t recommend this particular location.
Ive been to this location a few times and while its in need of a refresh, the quality remains the same. Good food, a fun atmosphere, and pleasant staff from the host to the bus people. Its fun in groups, or just as a pair, but often really busy. Try to pick a time when its not packed for your first experience. Itll give you something to keep in mind when you come back when its really busy and youve got a wait in front of you.
This is a great place to bring friends or family to bond while cooking your own food. They have various happy hours so always check to see if it is when you go. During the lunch rush, its safe to make reservations so you dont have to wait. Service is very friendly. The area is also well ventilated so your clothes dont smell like BBQ when you go home. They have a reward app that you can download to accumulate points from your receipt that gives you free food or $25 off the next bill depending on the number of points you are redeeming.
We went here to celebrate a birthday with a group of people. The food was not bad quality wise, but considering the price it was not (good) enough. The idea of the restaurant is to cook your own meat which means its brought out to the table raw. The meat is not marinated or anything. The waited came only once to take the drinks order. Another person of our group had to ask for a spoon multiple times. Considering the price not worth the money unfortunately.
I love Gyu-Kaku but the one in Times Square has a lot more food/drink options to choose from. There happy hour is for a long period of time and its half off both food and drinks. You can still bbq your own meats and its still worth it to check out with friends or more for a variety of great meat/bbq selections. The staff is very welcoming as well with there Japanese 🇯🇵
My husband brought me here on a date! The place was perfect from the time we walked in the door..until we walked out! Our server was excellent and so was everyone else! The drinks were amazing and so was the food. Its a must for happy hour as well. The food was so good we had to take it home bc we couldnt eat it all. The experience was PERFECTION!Happy Customer..👍🏽👍🏽We had the $65 prix-fixe
Excellent service, great prices, happy hour food menu with large portions (also happy hour drinks), great for families, couples, or friends. So much fun grilling our own food - I look forward to going there again. The employees review with you how long to cook each item so you dont make errors. They also frequently change the grill so the food doesnt stick and it doesnt get smoky from the cooking because the smoke is sucked below the tables
We went without a reservation and they accommodated us. They have private rooms for groups but mostly tables for 4-6 people. All parties must be present before seating. This location was on the end floor so you need to climb stairs. Quick service and extensive menu. Only 2 beer choices available. They change the grill often. Cool environment. Kids love it.
I love this spot! Literally is the perfect spot with a lovely view of the city for happy hour for a small group of friends or even alone. The food is amazing and the service is very accommodating! This is a staple for a Go-To Happy hour spot for great drinks and filling food!**Fun fact: get a spot in the open bar section (drinks half off all nite) opposed to the reserved seating if youre just going for drinks and a quick bite to eat... thank me later!😏✌
Servings are a good size and its all delicious! Bear in mind, itll take some time to get done depending on the size of your party because youre cooking everything on the grill which isnt too big, but it allows for time to socialize. Servers are attentive, despite getting quite busy. Reservations definitely recommended!
The food is always delicious but a little pricy. The service is usually pretty good but sometimes when the restaurant is very busy they are swamped and the wait could be over an hour. If you sit by the bar all drink specials are half off. They do have a great lunch special that is approximately $20/pp for a filling bbq lunch.
Today was my first time here. Mysister-in-law had a small party for my birthday and it was great. The people are friendly and the food and drinks are great. The prices are very reasonable and the happy hour prices are even better on food and drinks. Overall it was a wonderful experience. I will definitely go back.
A few years ago, this place was great. Today, they dont keep up with the competition in this city. The food is absolutely mediocre. Everything was brought together without any thought given to how people actually consume this type of a full course meal. One of us had hair in her food. The place is not very esthetically pleasing. Wide and open windows (which are part of the attraction in this place) were dirty. The entrance looks like its not put together. Some of the personal is somewhat rude and definitely not diplomatic. Such a surprisingly bad experience in a place that used to be nice and the most recent reviews from other people are positive. Not going back.
Service was terrible, food was great, but some meat came out with too much fat. They do not seem to have much of a care, the female staff mostly. Not the receptionist though, everyone in the back, servers and even manager didnt care too much if what was going on at tables.
They only have happy hour drinks but not happy hour food. The manager was rude with my friend who came last and she didnt allow him to get a drink for the happy hour price when he walked in the restaurant. With that attitude Im not going back to spend my money there. They just lost 3 customers for that nasty attitude due to a $5 drink. Its a SHAME. Honestly all the Asian people from the staff were lovely and attentive.
This place is awesome! If you can come during happy hour they offer $5 specials for most of their food and beverage menu. We received $5 grill items, cocktails and even got a bottle of sake for half price. A party of four is ideal at a place like this. The same thing goes for dim sum. You need at least four people to be able to try everything you’ll likely be interested in. My partner and I have also been to the Dallas and Houston locations. They are equally good.
The cook your own format can be a long experience if the servers are not on the ball. Weve had good visits and others not so. Overall the food is great and this place is a real find. The downside is the bar which is not much more than a hallway and makes the wait for a table uncomfortable at best.
Can’t say much about the food. I tried to get a table but wasn’t willing to stick around for the 2 hour wait. What I did experience was a neck snapping tumble down their staircase.A host/worker came to check on me crumbled on the floor but didn’t seem concerned enough to say anything.I left and went to urgent care to care for my concussion. We noted that the restaurant has cameras, so I’m confident this was all recorded and can be confirmed and reviewed to ensure better safety precautions for future customers. Please be safe and watch your step when entering and leaving this establishment.

2022-06-27Was immediately seated on a random Sunday. We ordered the preset Meat Variety combo for 3 people which turned out to be more than 3 girls needed but it tasted wonderful. Great service and deliciously marinated meats. I wished that there was more veggies that came with it.

2022-03-28Easy to make reservation, their combo menus were great (lots of variety), serving the giant mug draft beer is big plus, also S’mores for dessert (part of the combo) were great as well! 4 of us ate so much and had so much fun. Great for big group!

2022-06-20Initial: Had my Father’s Day dinner here and to be honest it was an amazing experience, especially for my first time for this type of cuisine where customer cook their food.Accessibility: At the time of arrival we had to go up couple flight of stairs but it didn’t bother me. I think it was something about the main building the restaurant is connected to was closed since the escalator/elevator was there. I parked at a garage nearby, I don’t even bother looking for parking in Manhattan.Food: Me and the Fiancee ordered the Waygu Dinner which is for two. That course could feed like 3+ people or maybe my stomach shrunk because I got full really quick. My fiancee family ordered a different menu type which I didn’t get much pictures of. The Waygu steak was deliciously rich and juicy. I forgot what it’s called but it’s the only sushi they have that had the meat on it, me and the fiancee loved that. Toward the end of the course we thought it was over and we still had more incoming. I have absolutely no complaints about the dishes and I even gave my daughter some of that fried rice which she loved.Drinks: I ordered a drink similar to Pina Colada, which was really good just not as strong but I wasn’t looking to get tipsy so it worked out just right.Service: Our server Hira who can be seen in one of the photos took care of us really well. He broke down how to cook each item and corrected any mistakes I did when cooking, also helped cut some of the meat up. Made the experience worth it!Closing: Wished I visited this location sooner but since I was brought here for Fathers Day, made the trip worth it especially when I hate traveling to Manhattan. Also if you can’t finish your food since I believe it was a lot, you can cook the rest and take it home. I’m actually consuming it now at work for lunch. Love this place and I’ll be visiting again quite soon with the boys.Note: I didn’t take pictures of everything, still way more stuff that came with the Waygu Course on top the Chocolate Lava Cake with Ice Cream that’s included.

2022-04-22Lunch special - per person choose 2 or 3 BBQ items, combo with miso soup, salad and rice (you can upgrade your rice - we have one garlic friend rice and another one sukiyaki bibimbap) also order add-on side dishes. All meats are flavored and seasoned, too salty and heavy for me. Serving portion per individual is big, easily to get you quite full. Come visit during lunch special period if you are craving for BBQ with favorable price.

2022-05-12Overall: super yummy Japanese bbq meats! Went there on a Thursday evening with a few friends and was seated immediately (beware of busier nights and weekends and plan accordingly). Food is always so good! Meat lovers for two comes with a good amount of food for a decent price. Must try the kalbi and sirloin steak topped with a bowl of rice.Price: $$, decent for what you orderService: the staff is accommodating and the server I had was super attentive and gave us a free s’more!Love this place and would come again!

2022-06-22The tower was underwhelming but the appetizers we got were good. They can make the mango cocktail into a virgin drink so that was good. They were quick with the food and smores were given at the end but overall, just an ok meal.

2021-11-06This is one of the finest Japanese BBQ in the city. The ingredients are always fresh and well marinated. My favorite is their draft beer specially Kirin which comes in mega mug. The servers are polite and super fast. We have been going to this restaurant for 6 years now. Highly recommended and we definitely will be back soon.

2022-03-06First time going to this Japanese BBQ restaurant. Great experience and a welcoming staff. Your orders come in quick and it was fun cooking the meat on the grill. At the end you also get s’mores which was nice. They have so much items on the menu from meats to drinks. Overall I would go there again with any size party group.
