I hired him to tune a piano I purchased that had been neglected for years. He got everything open, repaired the function of about half a dozen keys, showed me the key cleaning points to look out for, and was both super knowledgeable about the piano and incredibly polite in conversation. Since it was so out of tune, Ill be calling him again when I need to be re-tuned in ~6 months!

I basically have a new piano now! I have a Story & Clark piano made around 1972. It had been years since it had been tuned, and as Ilan pointed out, needed some work, which reviewed with me. After I agreed to have him do the work, he removed the hammers and such and brought the unit to his shop to recondition everything so that the action was much improved (some keys wouldnt return as quickly), as well as the sound, by reconditioning the felts. He finished by tuning it this afternoon, adjusting the keys, etc. Sounds and plays great! He was professional, responsive, etc. The cost of the reconditioning wasnt cheap, but I feel it was money well spent. Ill definitely be having him back to re-tune once everything settles.

Couldnt be happier with Ilan and would recommend him to anyone!We were given a free piano in 2014. A $95 tuning turned into a $900 complete refurbish; the piano hadnt been maintained in decades and was in need of major repairs, hammers were either stuck or missing and keys were sticking. Ilan told us exactly what our options were and explained clearly and precisely that it would take regular, consistent tuning to get this up to pitch and hold the tuning.Today was visit number 11 in total, for what is now a regularly scheduled annual tuning. Looking at the records this morning with my son Andrew, weve been up to pitch since the 5th tuning and have been holding steady since.

We purchased a used piano in North Carolina before moving it up to New York where it lived in a storage unit for 3 months before settling into our home. In 2 hours, Ilan made repairs and tuned our piano so I can finally enjoy playing music again without the wincing at the sound lolThanks for the high quality work!

Don’t be fooled by Ilan’s discounted piano tuning offer.As a recording artist, Grammy nominated producer, and someone who’s has had my Yamaha U5 tuned regularly for the last 25 years, I am heartbroken and beyond frustrated by the poor decision made by Ilan to detune my instrument.Unfortunately I was not home and Ilan took it upon himself to detuned by a quarter step since he noticed the overall pitch had sagged since last tuning. Never had a worse tuning. What a mess. Will revise this review if Ilan corrects this mistake.Yamaha U5s are known to be one of the most consistent pianos and relatively straightforward to tune. It is a highly unorthodox choice to choose to detune this piano for the tuners own convenience. He should have known better than to do this to such a lovely instrument.Repeated attempts to contact Ilan and he is unresponsive. I will need to find a professional to come and fix the tuning mess that has been made. Most likely will need to have multiple tunings to undo Ilan’s catastrophe.

I had my piano tuned by this individual today. Like most people I work during the week and so asked my 87-year-old mom to handle the visit. Although Mr. Hahn quoted $95 over the phone (and we hired him on that basis), when he arrived at the house he told my mom that we could have the $95 tuning, or a better tuning (?) for $140. My mom, wanting to do the right thing and not really understanding Mr. Hahns explanation of the difference between the two services, opted for the better tuning. I have not yet had opportunity to play the piano and so cannot comment on whether the tuning was competent or to concert pitch. I am more than angry, however, first, about this individuals failure to mention the more expensive option over the phone, and second, about his decision to con a senior citizen just to make a few extra bucks. If the tuning turns out to be acceptable, the only consequence to Mr. Hahn (other than this review) will be that we will never use him again. If the tuning is not up to snuff, I intend to report him to the state and local consumer fraud agencies and Better Business Bureau. Either way, a disappointing and sad experience with one of the local businesses we are constantly asked to support.
