Ken and Marianne are amazingly friendly owners who make it a point to have you feel at home when eating here. Their food is incredible and the prices are very fair. Rarely do I need to wait for a table and they are very attentive to your needs. Amazing restaurant in downtown Riverhead. I would highly recommend to anyone looking for some Chinese/Japanese fusion to go see Ken and Marianne!
We discovered this hidden gem a few weeks ago. What a pleasant surprise to find delicious and fresh sushi at affordablenon-Hamptons pricing in a beautiful setting with plenty of parking. Not to mention the fabulous family who own and operate Haiku!! Can’t wait to return!!!🍣🍱
I have dined in a lot of times in the past, and service is amazing, food is amazing. However, I decided to do takeout (this was my first takeout so I didn’t know what to expect) and the service that I got was not how I expected it to be. Maybe it was a bad day, oh well. I picked up my bag from the counter and this guy starts yelling at me saying “flap” or “flat”. Either way, I couldn’t hear so I assumed he said flap and I looked at the flap and he starts shaking his head and he gives me THE tone, you know the tone where your mom yells at you when you’ve done something bad. I’m stunned to say the least and then all the workers and two seated parties start looking at me because of his loud voice. I feel that we were both in the wrong but instead of saying one word to me, he could have said “you need to keep it flat” and not throw a fit. Thus, I won’t be returning even though the food is so good but the service.. not so good. When it comes to rating a restaurant, service comes first. So sad because this was one of the two places in Riverhead I love to eat at.
Omg this place is amazing! Very busy too! We got the sushi and sashimi for two and a rainbow roll and a few extra pieces of sashimi and sushi! I highly recommend definitely be patient as they take time to perfect each roll! Super friendly staff I cant wait to go back!!
Having had a disappointing experience elsewhere last night, we were a bit weary of trying another restaurant, but were craving some sushi and were excited to find Haiku with so many positive reviews. We went tonight and had a wonderful experience. The fish was fresh and delicious and the roll menu is huge and full of novel combinations! The ambiance inside is relaxing and calm, would be perfect for a date night. The owners are very sweet and its ready to see why so many people keep coming back! I would highly recommend Haiku.
I went here for lunch and although it was blazing hot outside, there was no A.C. on at all inside. Why stay and not just leave you ask? Well I went all the way put of my way and was hankering for sushi and had limited time in which to eat. If I had more time, I would have left and went somewhere else.I was greeted by my waitress who was not very engaging and had to wait until I got my food for water. Which normally i wouldnt pick at, but I was dying of heat with lack of A.C. There was no sign or explanation as to why there was no A.C. either. The only saving grace was the sushi itself. The gentleman that served it was the only smile I got since walking in. Although the food was good and the decor was nice, the service and atmosphere was poor. I wouldnt travel out of my way to come back here again.
Cozy place, Good Food, Friendly Owners!Family Owned and operated, had the Volcano Roll, Udon & Tempura. Well prepared and served in a timely fashion! very caring as well (we had allergies in our family) and the Owner went above and beyond to make sure our meals were safe to eat... So grateful🙏Would visit again, when out East!
Went for the lunch special, which was a great deal. About $10 for miso soup, and two rolls. Everything was pretty good. The resturant itself isnt too big, but its nicely decorated and very clean.Note it shares a building with Taco Bout It next door. Theres clear signing to find the correct entrance. Haiku is on Main Street side, but parking is in the back of the building
The husband and wife were okay the first time. I had concerns about staying at the restaurant late and the wife told me to Calm the HELL down. This made me very uncomfortable to be cursed at by a server. The next time in the husband and wife were fighting and he began to push her. This made me and my family uncomfortable. The last time and the final time I came back with my family . We decided to do eat there but were hesitant to come back. We order sushi but the raw tuna was so warm it tasted like it was sitting out for a long time. No your wife was out of line . I am not an overwhelming person. I just wanted to make sure my family and I were not keeping you all to late.i wont be coming back.
GEM IN RIVERHEADHaiku is absolutely the best sushi on the North Fork and probably the South Fork of Long Island. AND their Chinese food is very good too.I have friends who tell me it’s better than the sushi restaurants they frequent in Manhattan. I have eaten there at least twice a month for the last several years ( not during the winter because we are in Florida ) and the food is consistently very good. And the owners, Ken and Maryanne are just terrific restauranteurs. They love their customers and treat themLike extended family. There’s always a smile at Haiku. I don’t know what I would do without that place. I look forward to going there every singleTime!!!!!
We come out to the east End every summer, and Haiku is our go-to Sushi spot. Living in Nassau County, there are so many choices for Japanese food, but our favorite is always Haiku. Their Rock Shrimp is unmatched anywhere, and they have such a unique selection of rolls that are delectable. We have brought many friends that never thought they would like Sushi, and they love all the cooked and sushi entrees. Very nice owners that make you feel welcome, a hidden treasure.
Food was okay. Atmosphere so-so. One of the food items I ordered wasnt available, and was asked if there was something else I wanted.. I said no thank you. She proceeded to come to my table two additional times asking me to order something in replacement. One time I was getting up to use the restroom and she comes over and says dont go to the bathroom yet, are you sure theres nothing else we can substitute. A little intrusive. If I want something Ill let you know. No need to continually ask.
Since the pandemic, sadly a lot of restaurants around me have been going down hill with both service and quality. I eat sushi a few times a week and been dying to find a new spot that wont disappoint. After reading the reviews, I decided to give Haiku a shot and *chef kiss* .. rolls are soo delicious and fresh! 100% my new go to spot.
Im pretty sure this is where I ate as youre on E Main right. The sushi is excellent! Ive actually been to Japan twice so I really do know quality sushi when I eat it and I know when its not quality. I love the sushi here. Its really good quality. Im going to be going back time and time again. I really loved the eel (Unakyu) sushi.
CALL IN THE SANITATION SQUAD. The place was dirty as ever. Hard to give it a chance and eat there. You can bypass many things during a pandemic but the level of filth at this place was outrageous. Dont gamble with your health. When they take cleanliness more seriously in the seating area, I would like to return and try their sushi rolls.
Went for a friends birthday after a day at the vineyards. The food wasn’t bad and was rather good but the owners wife was hella annoying. She was rude to me and singled me out in the group. She was a typical Roslyn mom that didn’t want to work and hardly cared to but only does because her husband owns the restaurant. We were the only table outside on the side of the restaurant far away from any other customers. We ordered sake bombs to celebrate our friends birthday but the wife of the owner ( our terrible rude waitress ) would not allow us to do a typical sake bomb and made us pour in the sake. Weird. Just want to say that if you go you should LEAVE if your waitress is the owners wife. I AM NOT JOKING. she’s horrid.
The rock shrimp and calamari were the best Ive ever had in my life! We had the UFO, Volcano, baby and many more and all were delicious! I had mongolian beef and it was so sweet and savory! The food was awesome! I would have taken photos, but it was so tasty and we all ate it too quickly! The owners Mary-Ann and Ken Loo were super nice and took great care of us.
We go here sometimes on sundays pretty close to when they close. Its the same waitress everytime. She has the best attitude and always makes us feel welcome. We always feel a little guilty considering how late we come in. We really appreciate that alone. The sushi is consistently delicious. There sweet potato roll you can tell are always freshly made. I also really enjoyed the vegetable tempura. Sometimes I struggle with finding any variety when it comes to sushi being a vegetarian. There are plenty for my to choose from which goes a long way. Even the desserts they have here are a hit. The mochi is good and the fried ice cream is even better. They are within walking distance from the aquarium. They have a very beautiful fish tank in the restaurant that is beautiful. I find myself watching it pretty often as our meal goes on.Its just a place I can rely on for having a friendly atmosphere and wonderful food. There prices are also very reasonable. Its never to loud you can easily have a conversation. There is a huge parking lot conveniently behind the restaurant if you cant snag a spot in the front. Definitely worth a trip.
Came to order to take out around 7pm they told us 45min on Monday night! Came back exactly in 45 minutes, Order took almost 1,5 hour. Every time we will ask her how long, she would say “I don’t know “ , “I have a lot of orders”. We ate at 930pm. Very unprofessional!!!! Never coming back! Update... when we came back home one roll was missing we called she said u want money back I said no. Went back. When we finally set down for dinnerWe found out she gave us totally wrong rolls. I never called back and I’m never coming back there
Easily my favorite spot in Riverhead, the staff remembers you when you come back, they know what you want, and after the new decor the place looks beautiful. The food only seems to get better as the portions were fairly sized for the price and it doesnt get any better than fresh sushi. The old fashioned Japanese ambiance is my absolute favorite as they dont try and overdue it to make it look like a lounge, its a restaurant and it delivers what it promises with the right volume of music and an attentive staff.
FANTASTIC AUTHENTIC JAPANESE CUISINE!!!Whether you are looking to grab a quick sushi lunch with colleagues or an authentic japanese dinner with the whole family, look no further! My colleagues and I love the convenience, friendly staff and particularly the very gracious and gentlemanly owner! From sushi rolls to perfectly crispy vegetable or shrimp tempura, every dish is courteously served with great and very appropriate pride! Having lived in Asia for several years, I seek out restaurants that duplicate the authentic flavors of asian cooking, particularly the subtleties of great Japanese cuisine. Haiku has it!
This food is legit! I lived in Westhampton Beach for three years and never knew about this place, thank you Haiku Sushi for separating yourselves from mediocre establishments in the area. Everything tasted authentic, my only regret is that I didnt find this place sooner.
My wife and I love sushi and sashimi and, we found this place while driving by Main Street, Riverhead. The reviews were good and I got a good recommendation out on the golf course [yes I play golf in January on Long Island and, clearly others do too]; so we went. Not disappointed, but for the fact that they only serve beer and wine for spirits. But the food was fresh and very good! My wife loved the shumai; said: Its the best Ive ever had! And she has traveled the world looking for good shumai.Weve been back twice and will probably be back again before the week is out.
Been here a few times, never crowded or had to wait, ordered the lunch Bento box $13,it was ok,HUGE DISSATISFACTION WITH THE GINGER DRESSING NOT GINGER AT ALL,THEY JUST DUMPED MAYONNAISE on my salad which was just lettuce.Eww it was awful, picked out the lettuce the best i could, and emptied the dish for the picture ,when i asked what kind of dressing this was i was told Ginger....um no way..i asked is this MAYONNAISE and was told a little,.......ummm No ...it was MAYONNAISE.Really grossChicken came out cold, service is really slow, only one guy, well its not crowded..Ok food, because there is never a wait to be seatedIts ok dont mind coming here, waiter is very nice.

2022-01-21I had an amazing experience today at Haiku. I’ve recently started eating raw/cooked sushi and I must say that it was amazing. Maryann, the owner was so sweet and helpful by making recommendations of her own about her favorite rolls and I must say they are all fabulous! Everything was so fresh and well made. Being a local and having this place near me is definitely a plus! Also many recommend them for their sushi!!!

2022-03-21What does a farm cow and Haiku Sushi have in common? They’re both outstanding in their field. The food was excellent, portion sizes were healthy, and there was plenty of variety. Mary Anne, one of the owners, gave us personalized service by name and also offered her recommendations on what to order. The atmosphere is pretty authentic for a village sushi house, with vaulted timber ceiling beams and small lanterns and candles. I travel for work and get a wide variety of sushi all over the country. Haiku has some of the best around, and the prices are reasonable. Top notch!

2022-04-04Yum!! Just tried out Haiku for the first time tonight April 3rd, and it was delicious. Was undecided on what to order, and our fabulous waitress (whose name I wish I asked for) recommended us appetizers and rolls that were awesome! We enjoyed every bite. Definitely wanted dessert but was just too full! Haiku has a cute and cozy dining room, great service, fresh and delicious food... cant really go wrong here. I will be back!

2021-08-02So wonderful! We were going to dine outdoors because we had our dog with us. It was raining so we just decided on take out. It did NOT disappoint. Ken was so nice and the food was incredible. Highly recommend the sushi and sashimi for 2. And if you think you need more food then that, you are probably wrong. It is SO much food (and so fresh and yummy). We also got another roll and the rock shrimp which were really really good but we could not finish everything it was so filling. Thank you Haiku we will be back!!!
