Hair of the Dog in other cities:
Worst experience ever! I was rejected for water even though I ordered for drinks, i was dehydrated, that was inhumane!! I’ve never been treated like this ever! Worst bar! I strongly recommend not to go here! Worst bartenders! Especially a girl I don’t remember the name of, she was black haired with a black mole on her cheek!
This spot is a classic. Their deals dont make economic sense, so I wonder how they stay in business sometimes but dont get too beat up about it. Very college-esque. Grab a drink and meet some minors! We always go here to celebrate promotions to take us back to our intern roots.
Was here yesterday - guy at the bar was harassing me and my friends in front of the security guard. We repeatedly asked him to go away, after he touches my friend inappropriately, and he would not leave us alone. We then asked the security guard to kick him out because we felt unsafe and the security guard REFUSED…. So many things absolutely disgusting about this. This bar, and that security guard, witnessed assault and did NOTHING.
The slushy drink was over priced, and the buffalo wings was all wrong twice. They need to hire a new cook! The waitress helpful with calming my nerves cause all I ordered was wings & fries with a slushy lemonaid drink which was short of alcohol. I had to order a extra shot. HIRE a NEW COOK! Not coming back here & dont recommend this place!
Security who worked this past Saturday in the day time was horrible!! Been here a few times before without issue, but this time the security wanted to give me a hard time. Not sure if he was having a bad day and taking it out on guests. He was rude and would not allow me in with shorts on....even though I came a few weeks ago with shorts on. Additionally, there were several people inside with shorts on, and I kind of wonder if it was because of my skin color that I wasnt allowed in with shorts ????
New York City comprises 5 boroughs sitting where the Hudson River meets the Atlantic Ocean. At its core is Manhattan, a densely populated borough that’s among the world’s major commercial, financial and cultural centers. Its iconic sites include skyscrapers such as the Empire State Building and sprawling Central Park. Broadway theater is staged in neon-lit Times Square.
Quite literally one of the most TRASH places I’ve ever been. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME UNLESS YOU ENJOY SUFFERING.wish I could erase my memory of knowing this place. Security out front is trash, rude, heartless, and need to be fired immediately. Again, if I wasn’t clear enough in this review, the PLACE IS ABSOLUTE GARBAGE. Don’t waste your money here.
Hair of the Dog is a great place to meet for drinks and cocktails, however, the manager discriminates against males and priorities females. The manager denied entrance to males despite the venue being empty with a small crowd less than the allowed limit allowed by government. The manager seems to forget that the males are the ones paying for the females drinks. This venue discriminates against males and as someone whose been living in nyc for 10 years. I advice against anyone entering this venue and as my first amendment am suggesting a boycott for discrimination against the manger. This is our time to speak up and cancel businesses and individuals who think they are above the constitution and law.
Pretty fun spot on a Thursday night. Good music, good crowd, did not expect to have that much fun. Theres a line, but goes quick on Thursday nights. Dont bring anything to carry with you, no place to leave it, so umbrellas or bags/jackets are better to leave in the car. Drinks are normal price for the area. It was packed, but fun.
I didnt get to try the food. I went on a Friday night and it was packed... really packed. I guess its a good thing for business but when ur trying to dance and enjoy the music u have to expect to get bumped and do everything to try and avoid getting a drink spilled on you by people passing by or trying to dance! The bartenders were nice tho
I came here and was told if I’m not fully vaccinated I cannot come in. They were not checking vaccination cards so they don’t know of everyone is vaccinated. Regardless wearing a mask suffices which I was willing to do. Do not recommend going if you are not “fully vaccinated”
This place reminds me of an old, college town bar. Very old looking, alternative rock music mix, and a patrons of various ages. Its a nice place to go with coworkers after work or catch up with your squad of friends. And not to mention their happy hour is pretty nice, and is until 8pm!The staff is a little eh. They didnt communicate much with me while I was there compared to other bars, but the crowd of people are always fun and entertaining people.
Came on a Monday, it was nice. The day after was a disaster.....There was a girl bartender. She didnt feel like serving us. I asked about recommended local beer and she just served me with apple cider! She decided to close our bill without even asking us and for the grand finale - SHE WAS PUTTING HER MUDDY FEET ON THE ICE SERVED TO THE CUSTOMERS! So many bars around, skip this one. Really disappointing.
A place to rage for sure. Its fun, and drinks arent too badly priced! Consistently on the sweeter side though, so it probably evens out. DJ likes to cut into songs a lot, which is kind of annoying. But its a good mix, and its always lively. Definitely younger crowd, but always a good time.
Awesome bar to hit up to watch the NFL on Sunday. Great food and half off beer for the entire day. You literally cant beat that. I order buffalo chicken sliders with truffle fries. Decent size portions and the service was fast. It was busy and there was music playing in the background but overall and very good experience. I would definitely recommend a stop next time Im in the NYC.
Came here on a late weekday night with friends as it was one of the few places open in the area at such an hour. Good service, good beer. Honestly all Im asking for at a bar. Thank you to the bartender who, at my request, stopped serving my drunk boyfriend anymore beer (though he was not happy about it).
Excellent place for just a out anything. Great music...great aura. Great staff...Rick the bartender and Sophia the waitress are friendly...great personalities and make you feel like your friends not customers. I reccomend this establishment to anyone looking for a laid back and unpretentious change from the stigma that is Manhattan. The drink specials are awesome...even for the penny counters who trying to stay afloat but at the same time not losing their social life. The food is delicious...a stuffed burger and some onion rings are simply yo drool for. I cant say enough about The Dog try it yourself and you will understand.
Ive been here quite a few times and I usually have a great time. The drinks are reasonably priced and the atmosphere is good. However I arrived one night with my friend and I was let inside. My friend goes to the bathroom. I then found a place to stand while I contemplated what drink I would get for a few minutes. Next thing I know the bouncer comes up to me and says we need to talk outside. I ask why and he claims this is how it works . (Whatever that means). I make it outside and I again ask why I was removed from the bar. The bouncer claims that the manager said to give me a few minutes and if I didnt buy a drink to kick me out.(I go here alot and Ive never been forced out for this reason or any reason to be fair.) I didnt argue I just said I felt disrespected to be kicked out with and calmly walked away. Now without an explanation Im left to assume that as a man of color my presence was somehow threatening or suspicious. I hope management will see this and change my mind. Otherwise I am truly disappointed to see this behavior at one of my favorite venues.
It really depends what day of the week you go here, and what season. Its always pretty popular on a Thurs/Fri/Sat. Happy hour specials are great! Typical bar food is good too. Its not fun when its crowded though, and bar service suffers when its packed. Fun place to start off, a staple of the area.
Service was horrible, waitress/bartender seemed super angry, not sure why it wasn’t very busy, bad attitude, coming in from the outside huffing and puffing. Been here before but not sure if I’ll come backFriday (1:20pm ish). Could’ve just been a bad day but in the service industry you leave that when you enter the work place
And just your run-of-the-mill average bar nothing to write home about. They have other sister bars that are slightly better then this one. Been there several times never really felt like I enjoyed myself. Usually Im with a friend at forces me to go there. But its a bar on the way home
Establishment is nice, bartenders great; bouncers incorrectly removed myself from the location for an incorrect assumption with no proof. Did not want to take the time to calmly discuss, and escalated a situation that was non-existent. They were not a very professional duo.
I was there with an old friend and glad google picked up my location. Or i would not find this place again. They have excellent beer specials on a tuesday and dont kow if these are daily. Great friendly staff and great beer selection. Place is well light and has this old school feel to it but to my surprise a relatively younger crowd. No hipster.. but melo college crowd.. Although i was about 2x older than most, i didn;t feel out of place. Will be back!
Great place to meet with a few friends, especially if its before the evening bar rush. The drink specials here are crazy. No really, it makes no sense that the drinks can be so cheap... until you see how many people show up to buy them. It tends to get louder as the evening goes on, but this is a great place to start your night. The onion rings are phenomenal, and you cant argue with a $3 draft thats better than Coors Light. Check out their menus to see the daily drink specials, and there may be an additional special or two if you are a Foursquare user.
What ever you do dont go here if you doing party event because you are limited to what drinks you can get and you are ignored most the time when your man expires in few hrs. Only reason Im giving it 2 stars is there was a cool bartender on the other side and he was helping all the costumers nor ignoring them.
Felt just like a college frat party, but with the added bonus of large, intimating, and grumpy security guards standing every 3 feet around the perimeter. Armed with heavy duty flashlights, theyll be sure to blind you if youre standing in the way of the innocent bus boy foraging his way through the crowd in a vain attempt to clean up broken glass that a fellow bro throw across the room. They have good specials though. And in case you missed them, theyre written on large white posters plastered all over the walls. Kind of look like a 2nd grader stumbled into the bar and was hired to write the signs.
Had so much fun here watching sports.. there were a few games on lots of large screen tvs.. the prices on the pitchers during happy hour were excellent and large portions on the bar food! Was nice amount of people and love the neighborhood. young artsy trendy lower east side manhattan
Hair of the dog is an absolute terrible experience from start to finish. You wait 30 mins outside the establishment in the freezing cold and then get denied with a real id, just because of the amount of college kids that go to the bar. Fake ID’s get accepted but not those who are actually over 21. Terrible establishment with rude bouncers and even ruder management, I would never recommend going here.
Be warned if youre visiting from out of state. Nothing is open till noon! Of course the name us out there, but it made me want to check it out.So glad we did bc it looks like it would be awesome at night. We were there right when they opened since we were waiting waiting to check in at our hotel around the corner. I feel horrible bc I forgot the waitresses name, but she was awesome! So much fun to talk to and tell her who we are and where from. She was telling us how different stars will come in and likes to hangout. It didnt take long for the place to start getting packed after it opened. We laughed bc the drinks anywhere we went were small to us. Were us to Texas sized portions and their drinks are the size our our shot glasses here. Lol and coke at every place is pepsi I swear!Great food, fun place, great staff! Felt very welcomed and accepted when most were giving me weird looks bc I wasnt dressed warm that day.Check it out for sure!
Drink specials are amazing! I tend to go on tuesdays after 8pm when drinks are $4 (You call it). I have only tried their Wings and Buffalo Chicken Quesadilla = both were on point!!Kick back play a game of beer pong and/or watch a game on one of the many flat screens located all over the place. Will go on a weekend soon and share that experience as well.
Do not support this bar. They are incredibly racist and rude to their black patrons even in the face of their far and few between employees of color.A friend and I attended this establishment last night/this morning as per someones recommendation. At first site and upon entry, the place was packed and the atmosphere had vibes. We immediately thought we were in for an amazing time. We then went to the bar toward the right of the entrance to order a few drinks. The bartender serving us, Isabella, was incredibly and immediately surly. Any question my friend asked - may it have been to order a drink or asking for clarification about ingredients in a drink - was responded back with a great deal of annoyance. I then asked, are you having a long night and Isabella responded yes. I stated that I can tell.My friend then ordered another shot from Isabella and was told no. We were trying to understand why but she (the bartender) and the other bartender working closely by/with her refused to answer us or even acknowledge our questions. After many instances of being ignored I was sternly told that I had to wait my turn. After waiting and waiting and waiting, I asked if it was my turn yet. I was answered with disgust and yet more rudeness. I asked for the manager.I was directed to John Ford, one of the managers for Hair of the Dog. It was clear at the initial point of the conversation that John was not going to assist us or reprimand his employees. He immediately sided with them stating that we were rude to the employees and accused us of being drunk (we wish we were!).Another patron bumped into me and I turned and said that she can say excuse me. She stated that she did and I simply said, ok, I didnt hear you and resumed my conversation with the bouncer. The owner, who was standing nearby and witnessed the exchange, looked me straight in my face and said that I had in fact pushed this woman (not the other way around) and me and my friend had to leave the bar. I was shocked and hurt that he would blatantly lie. I admit to calling him a racist XXXX before being proceeded out of the bar by a bouncer and another manager.Thank you to the bouncer who did his job properly and managed the situation professionally. You are appreciated. For everyone else, you should be ashamed of yourself. There is an apparent issue with discrimination against a subset of your customers, dishonesty and a blatant level of unprofessionalism that need to be addressed in the now. I as well as my friend have been jaded by this experience and would never visit this establishment again. For anyone who claims to care about human rights and would actually like to be served with a level of decency (if you are a black person), I would recommend you do the same.
For the first time in my life, I suffered intolerance outside of my country. I have been living for 3 years in New York. This Friday, July 27, 2019 I was invited to attend a friends birthday at the bar Hair of the Dog, in the East Village. We were all together, drinking beer, laughing, dancing, just having a good time.Suddenly a security guy approaches me. “Come with me,” I ask, “why ? Is something wrong? - Come with me if you dont want trouble . I go, of course, ready to clear up any misunderstanding. “You are Brazilian, right! Get out. We dont want a thief here. We dont want to accuse you of anything, but we dont want you here either. Go home. If not, we ll remove you. ”Im shocked. Im a legal resident, my Visa is approved , I work, I pay my taxes ... outside, on the sidewalk I try to talk to the police. Im ready to collaborate, please search me if you need. I didn’t take anything “ Police answers me , Its their right to remove you from private property. I ask if there is anything I can do, after all they removed me because they accused me of a crime because of my nationality. I wanted to press charges against the bar. The police simply says, we ll not take your report, go home. So, I was removed from the bar because I am Brazilian, and the police couldn’t care less. Welcome to 2019 US of A!I thought about taking this to a lawyer, but, I didnt make any videos. I have no proof but my word.I ask for all who are against intolerance, to share this post, and don’t come here. And maybe review hair of the Dog with that in mind. Maybe this might come to someones attention who can do something about it.
I tried to get in thus establishment. Wasnt allowed in because my jeans had a rips in it. It was raining waiting in line and the bouncer looked at me multiple times and didnt say anything to me until i was soaked and got to the door. Was turned away and while i waited for my uber he allowed a guy with sweatpants in. Never again, dont bring your business to this establishment!
If you want to get drunk and watch football on Sundays and not have to file a missing persons report for Ben Franklin and his twins, then this is a great spot. You know who the crowd is, you know how packed its gonna be - but itll probably be a good time with cheap drinks and a lot of TVs.
Good music, atmosphere and drinks are normal price (these days). Service was hit or miss. One bartender wouldnt even look at us when taking our order but the other was friendly. They stop making certain drinks, in this case a Bloody Mary after a certain hour which was disappointing but I guess they want to keep to simple drinks when it gets busy
Manager working on friday night the 26th into saturday was a real dick. At first didnt want to let me in because i had ripped jeans but made me pay him $40 to let me in. I opened a bar tab with my 2 friends and then went out for a smoke. After my smoke the manager didnt want to let me re-enter saying that no ripped jeans allowed. I explained to him that i had a bar tab open and to let me get my card. He said i would have to come back another time. So i was left on the street without my card and with my friends i side having a good time. I will never come back here again. Terrible customer service. This guy the fat greasy one is bad for business.
I went to this bar with a couple of friends for my birthday on 6/1. First thing I noticed was the music was extremely loud causing me to have to scream in order for my friends to hear me. About a half hour after being there my throat was hurting already from having to speak so loud and i had a headache. Second issue was my friends and i ordered a nachos appetizer and stuffed burgers as an entree. All the food came at the same time. I believe an appetizer is suppose to come before the food, so of course my friends and i began eating our entree and didnt eat much of the appetizer. Third issue was the burgers were dry, hard and bland. I was really disappointed. I sent the burger back and asked for the burger to be taken off the bill. It was taken off at the end but not with out a fight from the waitress. My friends burgers were nasty too but they decided to just eat it. Our waitress was very rude to me. I do not remember her name, maybe Hailey? But she had her hair in a ponytail. I asked to speak with a manager, first she lied and said there was no manager in the building then she said the manager was too busy behind the bar making drinks to speak with me. Part of a managers duties is to speak with customers who have issues with the service. Management never came to speak with me. I was very dissatisfied with my experience at this bar and would NEVER go there again or recommend this place to ANY of my friends.
I was there with a group of friends. We were dancing and having fun when we were suddenly accosted by three men who yelled racial slurs and then violently attacked us. The security staff were present and witnessed the situation unfolding the entire time. Not only did they not intervene to prevent the attack, but they physically assaulted my friends and dragged us out onto the street, without intercepting the assailants. My friends suffered cuts and bruises, and emotional trauma. We were victims to a racially motivated violent attack within this venue, and then were brutally assaulted by the bouncers. The bouncers are basically goons in uniforms, and it seems, racist as well. Please do not patronize this place!
I went in and ordered a beer and the women was immediately snippy with me. I got my beer then asked for my credit card back after she swiped it and she laughed and called the security guard. The guard told me to leave and take my drink with me. What bar allows it’s customers to leave with their drinks? And kicks you out just for asking for your card back?
One of the bigger bro-bars youll find on the Lower East Side. The beer selection is decent, but this is the loudest sports-bar in the neighborhood. With drink specials geared towards a binge-drinking clientele, its no wonder that this bar is owned by the same people as Off the Wagon in the Village or Jakes Dillema on the UWS.
This place is a joke!... I came here for my bday party .... invited tons of people and i was turned away at the door bc i had ripped jeans. Two things.... Ive showed up here with ripped means before and they never ever told me that it wasnt allowed, second it was Halloween weekend, so everyone is wearing crazy costumes and they want to turn me away at the door, obviously the owner doesnt care bc he doesnt address anyones issues but dont go here! Its NYC! There are a million places to go
Ehhhhhhhhh. Came here on st patty’s day and left after 10 minutes. This place was absolutely packed. We only came because we were going to meet up with someone otherwise I wouldn’t want to step foot in here. The music was ok but you couldn’t move at all. Wouldn’t really recommend
If you want a swanky cosmo-tini with an organic mediterranean lime twist and a dash of pretension you have come to the wrong place!!At hair of the dog you get exactly what it says on the tin. One look in the window and you know what your getting. Busy bar, loads of space to move around, cool clientele, friendly staff and great prices.pretty much a perfect neighbourhood bar. Lost count at how many screens there are but it looks perfect to watch any sporting event. Cant wait to be back when football starts!!!

2022-06-25I dont like to jump to the conclusion that a place is racist but my god I have to say this place fits the bill. They just happened to continuously say all the groups of South Asian kids were too drunk while everyone else was okay. I will be the first to point out when my friends are too lit to get in somewhere, but they objectively were not in the wrong in this instance and this place seemed to conveniently only be calling us out. I will never be coming here again nor will I recommend this place to anyone else. You can easily find somewhere better to go with people who are not racist.

2022-03-28My husband and I stopped by here the other evening to watch a little March Madness. The bar itself is fine, noisy, nothing to write home about—but he and I both watched in amazement as the bouncer (heavyset bearded guy) flat out harassed a group of younger women outside. As a woman I felt really uncomfortable watching this interaction, which seemed sexual in nature and really intended to humiliate them. We left shortly after and I can say I’ll never go there again—and if any of the women who were part of this group bring a claim against the bar for allowing this guy to work for them I’ll be happy to be a witness for them.

2022-04-05I just watched a YouTube video that this bar was featured in and was very upset by how the bartender treated the people in the video. They were asked to leave and weren’t being disrespectful in any way and she was super rude for no reason.Completely unprofessional.

2022-05-27Every night, Scott Lee is missing his ex-girl friend Gemma. She taught how to dance, where to step, whom to love. As time goes by, the wrinkle gets deeper, the memory of her gets clearer.

2022-06-28The place itself is okay. However, the security teams is extremely rude and racist.. got kicked out for recording few videos on my phone with the flash light on. Like what!? There were so many other people that was taking videos with their phone and not a single one got kicked because let me guess they’re white? Idk or is it because I’m a brown person? Never again!

2019-11-11Just my luck I visited on the kick off of Football Sunday so everyone was extremely happy and ready to give off the season. We started with a few shots of baileys and then moved on to some wings. Definitely s great spot to visit. But don’t forget your IDs! Your ID is scanned st the door and I felt pretty safe at 12:30 in the afternoon with security scanning my ID. Atleast they know who’s who’s In case any craziness happens after all the drinks. Great hang out spot!

2022-02-18The worst bar we have ever went,I brought some of my friends there and the bouncer was so mean and rude , this white guy with the beard, i dont have his name was a spastically round and assholl, he gave us a heard time outside ,about us smoking around him sowe went far away from him so we wouldnt bother him and that wasnt even by the door, we were by the the road next to the fence ,and when we were going inside he was standing by the entrance and very physical not letting us in ,to a two girls, that was all on camera and all of my friends left because of him, very mad because of his behavior !! thats not okay to act like that with girls and that was second time when the bouncers were so mean!! first time for Halloween night I was there ,the bouncer was kicking us out ,when we already ordered the Uber and just waiting inside because it was freezing outside!! we told him that our car is literally 3 minutes away and there were still a lot of people inside, he was very mean and told us to leave and wait outside, and that is not his problem ,I had twisted such a bad experience with this please the bartenders are awesome but the bouncers are very rude and unprofessional!!!

2018-09-06Went for lunch and it wasnt busy; there wasnt a waitress so we had to order at the bar but it was easily done. Happy hour was great as well as the food. I had a grilled cheese with some veggies and my friend annihilated some buffalo wings.Would go again.
