Good food and fhappy hour ($8-10 drinks, $16 for two appetizers, etc.) This was my first time attending this restaurant reading good reviews. Upon being seated at the bar, the bartender (Agustin?) completely ignored me and my partner. He seemed agitated that we sat down and tossed napkins at us. He did not greet my partner and I, not even a simple hello. This was bizarre because the rest of the staff seemed extremely pleasant. Not sure if we will return after this experience, which sucks because its a cute bar and the drinks are good.
Great vibe and great staff. The cocktails are amazing and the food is definitely worth the price. Its our favorite happy hour spot in the area too for both food and drinks. Always happy to come by! The Mardi Gras special was a fun time as well! Always happy to come back
Servers are great, drinks are good. I ordered the chicken potpie, I ended up sending it back after 2 bites. It tasted like frozen vegetables with chicken broth with a small puff pastry placed on top. It needed seasoning it lacked flavor. The burger and fries were decent. The atmosphere is nice for an after work meet up for drinks.
Staff was really nice. They have an electronic form at the door to fill out for covid that you scan with your phone when you come in. Small place inside, outdoor seating as well. Inside there are clear walls up between each table and I felt safe.We each got drinks that we felt were okay, but the thai cauliflower app and pasta entrees were interesting and tasty!
Great place. They were too nice to me. I got a bunch of New Orleans stuff on Mardi Gras to go and complained about the gumbo, which looked watery. They gave me some more and a price break. When I got home it turned out the gumbo was really delicious, as were the beignets and other Mardi Gras stuff I ordered. Really good food. Hit the spot and my wife was thrilled we had found a place with Mardi Gras food. .
I have legitimately mixed feelings about this place. And Ill lay out why...I mean, that IS the point of this whole thing, right? So here goes: Ive been here twice and quite frankly theres nothing that truly stands out here from the menu. This is yet another restaurant in NYC that doesnt offer anything so out of the ordinary that it would stand out when put up against other establishments. Its basic and above average Americana based foods with the possible exceptions being their pesto Mac n Cheese and their pretty good Fried Chicken sandwich. But heres the thing that I have to criticize and its because I am a stickler for a couple of things when I go out dining, especially on the weekends: when you advertise Bottomless Brunch I better be getting exactly that. Now, lets get one thing straight, I understand how the restaurant business works and thats less a boast than a statement on how you can easily go on your computer and research the logistics of what it costs on a daily basis to run certain operations in the food industry. So with that being said I know restaurants dont want to necessarily overdo it when it comes to how much liquor they give away, but Ive been to comedy clubs and some of the smallest and least known restaurants in the city who offer Bottomless Brunch and thats exactly what they give you. Not so at Handcraft. In the 2 and a half hours a group of friends and I were here we were all served an average of 4 times with each pour being about 3-4 ounces in what seemed to be 12oz cups. So essentially, I couldve just ordered individual drinks and had more of my moneys worth rather than spend an extra $20 for the bottomless option and then another (on average) $15 for one of their ho-hum brunch options (I ordered the skillet which was basically chopped up potatoes and sausage bits with overcooked sunny side eggs). Now, for anyone reading this review please do not think that what Im saying is that when I go out to brunch I need ALL the alcohol in the world but restaurants who do not give you what is fair when it comes to bottomless need to stop advertising that as an option if they literally cant deliver. And when our check was dropped off at the table and we had all lobbied complaints to one another about how our cups had been empty for a little too long I had asked the waitress if she would be kind enough to give us one more pour. She said, No and I dont necessarily begrudge her for that but heres the thing: give the group one more pour because you know you werent filling up our glasses all that often and also it was relatively empty for a Saturday afternoon during prime brunch time...but not one more refill? I get why not (you dont want to get customers in the habit of getting one more pour if their time is up) but at the same time it wasnt like we were taking away any alcohol from the row of empty tables next to us.
This was a good find for brunch. Generous portions for the 2 dishes we picked: French toast stack and Handcraft plate. They were both very tasty too, especially the French toast and the deep fried potato tots with the French toast stack.Service was fast and pleasant. They nicely also gave us an expresso shot. Music was loud but able to hold a conversation without needing to shout.Update: Downgrading because theyve changed the menu for the worse, dishes not as good as before.
HandCraft makes some of the best cocktails in the neighborhood. As the name implies, they dont just sloppily toss ingredients into a glass, they take care with it, and it shows. Plus they brand their ice cubes with their logo which doesnt effect how tasty the drink is, but is cool because Im easily amused. If youre looking for something other than cocktails, they have a pretty great beer list with a few gems on it. The bartenders are super friendly too, so take care of them (and all bartenders for that matter).
[Brunch Review] I tried this place out of the blue and it was actually great! So glad I went there instead of one of the usual spots. They have a bottomless deal that’s $19.95 + price of an entree for 2 hours of unlimited mimosas, bellinis, and select draft beer. I had a breakfast sandwich with bacon, egg, and cheese with French toast as the bread—it was great! I didn’t think of it until after, but it would’ve been even better with some syrup. I’ll definitely ask for that next time. Food was good, servers could’ve been a little more attentive with the drinks, but overall a positive experience! Oh and the music was a bit loud but you kind of get used to it. Definitely will come back!
The game has changed, literally, with Handcrafts very own GAME CHANGER burger. They assembled it with Bison/wild boar, duck confit, Brie, cherry chutney within a brioche bun and it simply exudes elegance and excess at the same time. Im a fan of this and their chicken sandwich, an equally decadent bite youve got to try. As theyre known for cocktails, those too are off-the-charts amazing. The space is sophisticated with a homely twist with brick wall adorning all the walls. Service is attentive, friendly, and not intrusive. A definite place Id return to time and time again for a burger and a beer!
Fantastic place for cocktails! The pork nuggets I had here were not that great though - I understand pork can be very chewy, but the way it was cooked was not that great - felt very rubbery and the the taste was just not right. But again I went here the first time and the cocktails definitely present a good case to visit here again!
My friend and I were just looking for a place to grab a burger and chat. This is a nice place for a date or just to have drinks. They have a reasonably priced menu as well as happy hour. I had a $10 margarita that was much stronger than I had expected it to be. Thats a PLUS.They have music playing and I believe it was two, or maybe 3, big screen TVs for sports. They also had a live DJ later in the evening. I believe it was around 8pm when he began his set. The music this particular night was a mix of hip-hop, mainly older. (Beyoncé, Weeknd, DJ Kool, Usher etc)I think the waitress said hes only there Thursday thru Saturday. They also offer outside seating, as well as reservations. The outside seated is covered so you dont have to worry about the rain or weather elements. The burger I ordered was cooked fresh, comes with a small side salad. Fries or tater tots are an extra $3, not pricey at all. Burger was fairly large, $15 for the handmade burger. My friend and I both ordered the burger with a side of fries. She had two glasses of wine and I had two margaritas which were $10 a piece for happy hour. The bill was only $78 (tip not included)We finished with 2 shots of premium tequila which was $19, but we paid that at the bar as we wanted a shot to finish off our visit.Overall it was a good experience. Definitely recommended.
Entered almost empty establishment today 7/24, sit at the bar…First thing the bar tender says to us “normally we don’t serve at the bar but okay”Me: “ummm what does that mean”Bar tender “it’s fine”Me: So Sorry, do u need us to move or what are u saying ?(Still empty establishment, only other people were a group standing at said bar)Bar tender: it’s fine !Me: *** Crickets*** …. Gets up and takes money elsewhere !I am so very confused on 1. The customer service, no simple hello, welcome was exchanged 2. What do you mean you don’t serve patrons at your bar with bar stools setup to sit down ???With the amount of bars/restaurants available around this area and as I’m a local, very disappointing. I’m baffled by what just happened and unfortunately it’s clear you have an employee who really couldn’t care less about making you money after a pandemic …. Whoops ….…..Cheers from the bar next door !!!
This is a cool place! My wife and I had stopped by a few times just for some wine. It has a good crowd and all the folks that work there are super nice, especially Inga & Sherwin. The other day we decided to have lunch there, and I spotted my fave sando, the French Dip, on the menu so had to try it. The verdict? Awesome! perfectly charred yet still soft bread, generous amounts of thin sliced meat and an incredible creamy horseradish spread. The jus was a perfect complement too. Well definitely be back again during our visit here!
This place is called Handcraft Cocktails giving an illusion of good drinks. It’s more like “never made cocktails” before. They failed at the quintessential cocktail.. The Old Fashioned. Seems they forgot the sweetener and used some cheap liquor. Was also over charged from the menu price. This was mid day with almost no one inside so there was no rush to mess this up. Didn’t bother to complain..paid and left to just about any other bar in the city, which are all capable of making an old fashioned.
I am vegetarian and asked the waitress if they have any vegetarian options as the menu was limited to one salad. The waitress confirmed they could do a Mac n cheese without the bacon. Which I ordered. I could not finish the meal so boxed it and got it home only to find bacon in my meal. This is absolutely horrible. I have never eaten meat in my life and now I was subject to this. I cant believe a restaurant that charges the prices it does cant even take care of a small dietary requirement. Absolutely unbelievable and disgusting.
Service was very slow, but likely because it was brunch. However, we had a horrible server. He was not at all pleasant and never came back after bringing our food. Walked past us about 20x, but never stopped. We had to flag down someone else to eventually pay our check.
We booked a reservation and when we got there the host told us that they made us a makeshift table at the end and it was the only table without a heater. We then asked if there is a table with a heater that will be empty soon and he told us quite rudely that someone was ahead of us in line. It makes no sense for me that a place would advertise that they have heaters and then not honor their reservation system. It was also quite frustrating how rude the host was about it. We ended up leaving and going to another place because it was definitely not worth being cold for a place with such bad service.
Exceptional service! We had Sadie and she not only helped us with all our happy hour menu questions but also gave us great insight on what beaches to visit as we’re visiting. Ended the meal with a free shot and we left with a list of coffee shops and place for karaoke 👍🏼
This place was okay and the food was very good. I did not like the fact that I asked for a Top Shelf Long Island Iced Tea and the waitress came back to advise me the drink would be $30... Who specifically orders a Top Shelf drink and needs to be reminded of the increased cost, especially in manhattan!?!?!? -1 star. The waitress attitude was just awful... She acted annoyed when my wife asked her questions about the menu, I understand we came in an hour before the kitchen was to close and were probably your last table of the night BUT a patron is a patron! -2 stars!
We popped in for a cocktail and we all loved what we received. The pricing was in line with many other places in Manhattan but the drinks were very tasty and I would love to go back again. We arrived after 11pm on a Saturday near July 4th, very easy to get a table and the place was only 50% full. I suspect that many other evenings the place is full.
We had dinner, a party of nine, and the service was great. Small menu, nice variety, but many of the choices didnt appeal to a few of us because of one or two of the ingredients. (It seemed like an attempt to make the food gourmet or fancy, rather than a simple entrée.) Nice sized portions, priced were typical for NYC, $16 and up. Gratuity of 20% was automatically added to check.
A neat little location to go in the late evening. A cool venue with nice dim lighting, great selection of music, and a cool hip crowd. Some draft beer selection, but the draw obviosuly is some cool handcrafted cocktails. Unique selection of delicious elixers along with your standard mixtures. Served over a nice block of ice that doesnt cause your drink to be watered down. Friendly helpful staff that made great recommendations. I was there after the kitchen was closed so didnt get a chance to try the food unfortunately.
This is not a Bottomless Brunch. They wil watch closely how much your drinking and will ensure that they don’t lose money. Bottomless up to profits sake. I would recommend one of the other great bottomless brunch places in the area. Food is good but a little pricey. However,
So....Tineke and I dropped in for dinner and got a lot more than were expected! Handsome knowledgeable waiter...Oscar. Devin is amazing! The food is absolutely delicious! You must try the foods here! We are going back for brunch.... yes you heard me brunch... on Sunday.... cant wait! Brunch by the way is Saturdays and Sundays! Bon appetit!
Terrible service! So I made a reservation for today Saturday at 4:15pm and they call me to say that the kitchen will be closing at 4pm??? This happened while I was on my way there. Seriously? What kind of service is that? If you do not have availability for tables than DON’T say you have tables available for that time. I never experienced this.
In addition to the craft cocktails and wide variety of beers, this restaurants serves some delicious food. The first time I sat at the bar and ate the Truffle Tots and the Pulled Pork Sliders. The next time I sat at a table and ordered the Louisiana Gumbo and the Wild Game Meatloaf. Everything was excellent. I recommend making reservations on their website for a proper table though because it gets very busy sometimes.
It was on june, 26th my husband , my son and I had dinner that. it was after U2 concert and nothing was opened in the region. I was hungry and tired. Finally we went there and had the perfect end of the night. My son lives in another country and my husband and I in Maine. That was a quick family meeting that ended very well. Food great, cocktails wonderful and the right amount of people at almost midnight. The service was amazing too.
Same owners as Croton Reservoir Tavern which is another great place. Had to check this out after my great experience there. Handcraft is killer. Unique cocktails and menu with a really cool ambience. The neighborhood is loaded with sports bars and dives so its nice to finally be able to class it up a bit in Kips Bay.
We were a party of 9 guys before a concert at the Gramercy Theater. Handcraft was so gracious. We were short on time, could only order apps and some drinks before having to take off. Im sure they wouldve appreciated (and almost certainly anticipated) our ordering 9 entrees on top of the apps, but they were cool with our ordering just the apps. Super friendly waitstaff, and well run. And, the apps we ordered were great. Nachos (the tots version was especially good), deviled eggs (delish), Bavarian pretzels, Burrata (legit), the wings, and the artichoke dip. It was all really tasty. Also, really liked the lighting in the place and general vibe. Super cool spot, and much more sizable than I imagined from the photos online. Thanks so much, guys!
Was really excited to try Handcraft. Brought my mom from out of town to try it on a beautiful Friday night. We asked to sit outside and were told it was first-come first-serve. So we waited. And waited. And watched a table pay the bill and excitedly made our way to the table... only to be told someone else had been waiting for it inside. I totally get it, but we were waiting next to the table! They need to have a waitlist for outside tables instead of first-come first-serve to avoid this situation. After waiting a half hour, my mom and I left hungry and disappointed. Maybe I’ll give them another try one day, but that situation and their unapologetic response made me a little less excited.
It felt like a bro bar had confusingly decided that it was going to become a cocktail bar.Walking in, I was hit with the smell of cleaning chemicals. The staffs dress and general vibe was that of a bro bar. Some classic cocktails had been heavily altered. The cocktail menu was taken away after the first order, which again was a sign that this wasnt really a cocktail bar. We cant have been there to explore the creations; we must just be there to keep drinking the regular choice. The veggie burger was bland and was served with fries despite the menu saying it would have garden salad. This was corrected once I informed them, with a vibe of oh yeah, I guess you have a point. The laissez faire attitude extended to allergies too. I mentioned when ordering a cocktail that I dont normally have much sugar, then the waitress asked if it was OK that there was egg white. What does that have to do with anything? Am I just the allergy person, allergic to every potential harm? The bar would appeal to someone at the moment; I see the main issue as mismatched expectations. Maybe bros wanting to dabble in the world of cocktails.
Last week, we had the opportunity to check out this hidden gem in NYC. We have to say, the truffle fried burrata and the steak mac & cheese stole the show! The mac and cheese was absolutely delicious and seriously unique. The Burrata was so good that we ordered two! You get a lot of food for the price, crazy good atmosphere and CHEESY service. Highly recommend this place and we will be back to check out what they have to offer for brunch! #NYCsporkful
Ive been eating and drinking at HandCraft for a couple of years since stumbling upon it via restaurant genie. Alex is a genius mixologist and the seasonal menu is always brimming with unique, flavorful options.Every experience has been met with great hospitality and friendly staff. The only room for improvement would be to bring back the game changer handheld - please?
One of nycs best old fashioneds. Great cocktails (and youll pay Midtown prices for them, which is a slight win), but you HAVE to get the fried burrata. As a bonus, the roasted oysters reminded me of something I enjoying in Miyajima, Japan, just without the smoky coal flavor - delicious, tender and not chewy at all, and fantastically seasoned.
HandCraft Kitchen & Cocktails gets pretty packed on weekends so I would recommend making a reservation on HandCraft Kitchen & Cocktails . I made a 10AM reservation for 2 people a week in advance from when I wanted to go and I had no issues.HandCraft Kitchen & Cocktails
Overall terrible experience. Before being seated asked the manager if at 8pm the football game on ESPN could be put on a tv. Manager said sure no problem and sat my party at a table by a tv. Ordered food and beverages. Waitress said they were out of plates but she would try to find some if we really wanted plates for our appetizers. 745pm rolls around, I ask her if she would be able to put ESPN on, she said sure thing. 759pm, still no ESPN so I ask again, she says its no longer possible to put it on because someone wanted to watch the other game. Cmon! Im ok with a no from the manager 45 minutes earlier, happy to take my eyes and wallet elsewhere, no lack of options. Why tell me its possible and then once Ive had food (wrong item I add, waitress apologized but didnt resolve the issue) and its kickoff time renege? Never again.

2021-11-05Nice bar with good food options at decent prices. They also have a nice ambience and have outdoor seating as well. Happy hour is 4-7 everyday. The arugula beet salad was so good my friend had it twice. I had the fried chicken sandwich and it was also pretty good and came with a leaf salad. They also serve margarita in a large pitcher for groups.

2022-03-01THIS PLACE IS AMAZING FOR HAPPY HOUR !!!!!!!! We got a margarita pitcher, the Chicken and Biscuit Sliders, the Hand-cut fries, the Bang Bang cauliflower and the Mac and Cheese. Not only was everything so yummy and a good portion, but it was all for a great price !! I went with my friends for my birthday on 2/15/2022 and our wonderful waitress, Gabi, absolutely made our night !! She was super kind and attentive to our table and even helped my friends surprise me with a tasty dessert that had a huge sparkler candle on it. Everyone else was super kind and they followed COVID protocol. Would highly recommend !!!

2022-04-10The food is good but the service is slow. I also paid 6 extra bucks for truffle tots and the portion I was served was embarrassing. My friend ordered the same thing and got a good portion so I asked for more and they were just regular tots, chef seems lazy… It’s the principal!! I added photos for reference.

2021-08-17Yum! Nice little bar/resturant. Pretty good drink prices. Yummy food - the nachos were great and came out super quickly. Also we liked the chicken sandwich and fries but it was almost too put together and reminded me of a McDonald’s chicken sandwich… maybe I’m going crazy. Also they had one of the drinks we ordered incorrectly entered in their system so our bill was more than it should have been, but they fixed it for us.

2022-04-04My friend and I came in here after dinner just to get dessert, and goodness gracious it did not disappoint. The portion sizes are huge and the desserts themselves are very fresh. I can’t wait to go back and try some of their main courses!

2021-08-15I came to have brunch here the food was nothing to rave about. I got the biscuits they were decent. The best brunch drink to stick to were the mimosas everything else tasted horrible. The bartender was super nice and fast. I definitely got my moneys worth for the unlimited as my glass was never empty.

2022-02-08My husband and I went to Handcraft last night for their Mardi Gras inspired menu additions. I had the roast beef and debris po boy and it was to die for. The bread was absolute perfection. James (the manager) said the bread was actually from New Orleans! I wanted to write a review begging them to keep the po boy on the menu after Mardi Gras is over. I would come back again and again for it. The beignets were also delightful. As a side mention our bartender Oscar was fantastic. The guy never stops moving. Hes so hard working and yet very friendly at the same time. Love this place! Go there now and try the po boy. You wont be disappointed.

2021-11-26We went on thanksgiving night and to say we had a wonderful time would be an understatement! James and the staff were amazing! Food was fantastic and under priced, in my opinion. Would 100 percent return and recommend.

2022-07-01I’m disappointed because I thought management would just settle my discrepancy with knowing their customers, reviews and word of mouth are their bread and butter. But that’s not the case here. We came here today at 1pm to start happy hour which we learned didn’t start until 4pm. Fine. I decided to get the lunch special which included 3 martinis for $15+cost of whichever lunch special entree I decided on. I asked my server if I could do margaritas instead. “No.” Okay fine, I’ll take an espresso martini. Second martini, I asked for a gin martini instead. “No. Only classic martinis are included.” Okay, I’ll take a second espresso martini then. Rest of the night goes on, I had to get three espresso martinis. At the end of our time there I checked our bill and we are charged $45 for my 3 espresso martinis…which should have been $16 per the lunch special. I raised this error to the new server (shift change) who brought it to the attention of the female manager. The female manager came over to our table to tell us that her server Sergio, who has been there for 6 years is not lying.. alluding that we must be the in the wrong and not have understood. We explained how the conversation went with Sergio about changing the type of martini from espresso to gin… at which point the manager still wasn’t budging and claiming she believed her server over us. So I said fine…$30 is going to make you get a poor Google review and non repeat customers. Her response was that I was threatening her. I told her it wasn’t a threat… I’m going to write a review. The managers remedy to all of this was that still, “Sergio wasn’t wrong”… she would take off one martini and one beer and give us “shots” aka pineapple shooters to fix the discrepancy. Ultimately an $8 difference had she taken off the $30 difference deal. our final bill. Had she done this, I wouldn’t have left this review and I would be a repeat customer. Now I’m leaving a review, I won’t be returning, and anyone who suggests this place or wants to go here… I’ll have to say it’s not worth it. To go somewhere else. So I implore you to do the same if you don’t want to be a customer who is told they are wrong. NYC restaurants are getting way too confident with their lack of customer service thinking this won’t eventually affect them.
