Bed was very comfortable, breakfast was not the best we’ve had other B&Bs could use improvement. Mo the manager was very. Helpful and showed us maps and Waze around New York City. Would stay here again. We stayed in the captains sweet large room with the living room and private bathroom. The house is right on the water you can see where ships passing and get a great view of Ellis Island and New York City. Easy access from the ferry to New York City. Would definitely stay here again. 10/10 recommendation
Good value for money.· I liked everything very much: both the location, near the metro, and the cafe, where delicious food, are relatively inexpensive. The rooms are cozy, clean. The staff is excellent, polite, pleasant. With children it was convenient, four in one room, it was not crowded. Quiet, no one bothered. The shared shower and toilet are reasonably clean. There was no queue. The room is warm. Good quality at an affordable price.
Very, very hospitable place. I would highly recommend it for anyone staying in NYC, especially as a tourist. if your from out of town and have never been to NYC, it is good to know that native new yorkers usually are NOT nice to ANYONE, let alone a tourist. So your likely to get treated like your a nobody, or heavily schemed upon, possibly even conned. And you maybe start enough to see it and not proceed, but its better off to avoid situations like that all together. You can do that by slipped the hotel chains and booking at a place like this, trust me, its a cold world out there, stay warm in this warm, cozy place that is so hospitable it will warm your heart.
This place has its own special New York charm! The view from this place is amazing straight across from the harbor! It is easy accesible within walking distance to the bus stop which will connect you with the Free daily Staten Island Ferry, Mr. Mohammad is an amazing, helpful, cordial, gentle and friendly person who is ready to give you tips so you can get out more out of your trip. It is a very quiet, safe and comfy place that I would gladly come back to again and again !
I stayed for 4 nights and this place was great.. Please keep in mind how much you are paying for the room a night. This place is very affordable and for the price it is perfect. Its clean and the host Moe is very nice. He makes you feel welcomed there like its your home too. I would definitely recommend this place to friends and family. If your in the big Apple and need a clean affordable room for the night this is the place to stay.
Harbor House is a home away from home for us. Travelling to NYC with 3 kids for the first time can be quite daunting, exciting and a little scary because we are from a small town in Virginia. But Mos friendliness and generous, thoughtful hospitality made us feel like we were going to see a friend in the city. We were 5 and he accommodated us so well to make us feel welcome and comfortable. This place is an undiscovered treasure that I am so glad we discovered! The views are spectacular and the Pizza joint around the corner cant be beat. Thank you, Mo.Youve made our first trip to the city even more unforgettable!
My wife and I spent 5 nights here in late April, 2015. We loved it! It is a Victorian-style home with modernized bathrooms. It was clean and pleasant, and offered a continental breakfast. Our room had a close-up view of the Narrows and shipping traffic, with the Manhattan skyline in the background. We found it easy to bus to the (free) ferry terminal to get to the big city. Staten Island is much more laid back than the city and there are many small shops and restaurants within easy walking distance (or bus) of Harbor House. The best thing about the experience, however, was Mo, the manager, who seems to wear many hats and still gives excellent personal attention to the travelers.
Do NOT even think about it, or it’s better to say if you are not used to bed and breakfast places don’t try this one as your first experience. I checked in and although I had payed $125 I checked out in an hour. I had to find another place to stay for the night. It was the worst experience I have had and I travel frequently. The only good part was the owner, he was a nice man. If you don’t mind old amenities, single bathroom that you will share with 3 other rooms, no iron, hairdryer and coffee maker in your room, while you have payed a price similar to Holiday Inn, then go for it.
Absolutely the best hotel Ive ever stayed at. the manager, Moe, is the nicest guy youll ever meet, he really deserves all the kudos he can get. Im definitely staying here from now on. its cozy, simple, and has a phenomenal view of Manhattan. Theres a convenience store and a Dunkin Donuts within a mile radius of the property, the rooms are never too cold or too hot, and once again, Moe is the MAN. This place is probably the last nice place to stay that doesnt charge an arm and a leg per night.
I stayed here back in December 2015. I had made it to NY from MI and the hotel i had chose to stay at was closed. I called here and the guy was wonderful! He told us to head this way and when we arrived he would let us in. I was so thankful. He was very nice and the room was clean and reminded me of an 60s bedroom! (i adore old homes theres so much character) Thank you for letting my 2015 trip to NY by providing a lovely place to stay!
Came across the Harbor House after struggling to find an affordable place to stay while in Staten Island, and so glad we did! Moe was immediately welcoming and a friendly face to see after such a long travel. We stayed in the Manhattan room, overlooking the Varrazzano and Manhattan. Moe takes care of this place like its his own home, he is conversational, but keeps to himself as well. The room was cozy, a great room to be in if youre traveling alone or for couples. As someone who is unfamiliar with the surrounding areas, I felt very comfortable walking around the area alone while my boyfriend was working during the day. We would definitely stay here again next time we visit.
The place is really poorly maintained. The host is overly nice to the clients, pathetically begging for good reviews, instead of actually managing and maintaining the facility.I heard the host Moe charge a family twice the amount of the actually price ($79 according to google for that night); theyd been loyal customers who were attending a funeral and he was charging them $129 for the night! How disgusting to exploit his guests like this.Laundry ListMy room was serviced one time in seven days.I took the trash down to the breakfast area, myself after it sat in my room with food in it for two days. There wasnt any hand soap in the shared bathroom throughout the entire stay. There was a man sleeping in front of my door at 6 am one morningThe numbers are written on the doors with sharpies (hahaha - literally with sharpie).Avoid this place. There are much nicer places that are actually maintained.
One of best values for lodging in NYC. Great location on the water. Local cafes, delis, wine shops, Dunkin, bodegas, etc. Close hop to the Staten Island ferry by bus, train, Uber or walking. Moe is a gracious host. Ask for the Verrazano room with private bath, views of Harbor and City lights. This is an eclectic place to stay and get more of a local experience. Most guests are European I understand from Moe. Skip the big chains and stay here.
A wonderful stay with a perfect view of New York Bay and Manhattan. Moe is a most excellent host who makes you feel at home immediately. It is in a good location for amenities and transport. 5 mins walk to a bus stop on Bay St, and 15 mins walk to Clifton station. Also 30 mins walk to Fort Tompkins, Fort Wadsworth, and another great view of the bay and waterside New York. The rooms are clean and spacious, with air-conditioning, central heating and a shared bathroom on each floor. Please note: this accommodation will not suit those who have trouble climbing stairs. I would say this is the best value accommodation around.
Nice BnB with a fantastic view over to New Jersey, Manhattan and Brooklyn. Friendly owner, good breakfest, really nice guests (we had luck). But still space for some improvement, especially in the small room I had on the 3rd floor. Renovation and some detail upgrades for the future would be really good and could turn this place into a true gem. 😉Anyway highly recommended to anyone who wishes to enjoy a quieter and nicer place on a stay in NYC than the common Hotels or Inns... 🙂
Thank god I didnt book this B& B. The only thing to commend this place is its location which has a spectacular view of the narrow waters separating Staten Island and Brooklyn and the Verrazzano bridge. If a breathtaking waterfront view and a not-too-expensive room close to the ferry are all you care about, this is the place. However, from what I read in the reviews by past guests, the amenities of this place are old and terrible. The rooms dont even have A/C. Why pick this place when I can find enormously better accommodations at even lower prices on Airbnb? Im glad I chose to Airbnb ( which is a tad more complicated than booking a regular hotel room).
This is a beautiful spot overlooking the Hudson River. We had a room that looked out to the Manhatten sky line across the river, and to the lit up Verrazano Bridge at night! We ate breakfast on the front porch and watched a cruise ship sail past. View is stunning. Our room was extremely clean which is what I cared about the most. It was a quiet location to relax and even take a stroll at night. The house is in a very safe area. Naushad, the owner was extremely accommodating offering to get other items for breakfast if we had a specific diet, and even offered to drop us off at the free ferry that goes from Staten Island to Manhattan. Overall, I am so glad we stayed here and we will definitely be back.
If I could give no stars OR NEGATIVE STARS I would.. this one star is super generous and only because of yelp . First, i will start by saying, my Fiance and I didnt even get a chance to stay here, so this review is only based on the horrible customer service. We accidentally double booked our weekend, as we were both trying to surprise each other. So he calls to see if he can change the date or cancel the room. The nasty manager tells him no, we cant change the date and if we want to cancel they will STILL charge us for both nights. So, rather than have him lose the money we decide to keep the plans and go. Fast forward a few hours and we call ahead to let them know we are on our way ( as this is customary for a B&B). The nasty manager tells us, well he decided re book our room with someone else, and switch our reservation to the following weekend. No call, no email or anything... mind you we are in the car, in route to this place!! At this point, my Fiance is now seething mad! Next weekend wont work for us, how dare you tell us NO, then change it on your own to the weekend that you see fit?!?!?!? Then, the rude manager proceeds to tell us that hes doing us a favor because he didnt have to move it, he could have just kept our money.. UMM EXCUSE ME!!! The nerve of this place! First off this place looks like an absolute DUMP, it needs to be renovated, new bedding and a good hazmat suit to give it a scrub down!! The ONLY reasons we were even entertaining this place was because the Victorian house was sold out and the the views The Harbor House provides. Oh but it gets better...so as we are having this back and forth over the phone..nasty manager starts to raise his voice at me. I tell him , as calmly as possible, not to raise his voice as I am a woman, and im not disrespecting you. This JERK tells me if you dont like it have your husband call me and hangs up the phone!!! So not only did he TAKE OUR MONEY, give away our room and then re book us for the following weekend WITHOUT our consent, he adds insult to injury by disrespecting me over the phone and hanging up on me!! I have NEVER been so disrespected and treated so disgustingly by any establishment or company and its insane that there is no one to report his behavior!! Not only did he tell us he re booked our room and made the money back, but refused to give us our money back. I get it, all places have policies about changes and cancellations, but the way we were treated is unacceptable!!!! I will advise EVERYONE to stay away from this place by all accounts. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME MONEY ON THIS PLACE.
This place is a port in a storm, with a nice view of the harbor. The front desk, janitor, Moh, showed himself to be nasty, unwelcoming, rude, apparently doesn’t care how he presents himself, and has no business working in hospitality. The world would be a better place if he was not dealing with the public. His general demeanor was disgusting and insulting. Where did they find this guy?

2022-05-12Very spacious room, full of natural light, 3rd fl, corner. The view of the New York harbor was unique, especially at night. So was Verrazzano Bridge. Right across is the Alice Austen museum & Park. A simple continental breakfast was available every morning. Good enough to start the day. The manager was very pleasant and patient. He did take my luggage up & down to the 3rd fl., for which I am thankful. This is not a hotel. No personal detailed service is advertised & should not be expected.

2022-06-22Positive: Location. Excellent view. Easy access to inside amenities/room. Mo was a fabulous host. Nice size room. Safe. Comfortable. Fair pricing. Negative: Bedrooms need some updating- even if just linens and wall decor (furniture and tvs to follow). Dated, from decades ago.

2021-11-19The view of New York Harbor is phenomenal! The rooms could really use a fresh coat of paint. The carpet in my room had stuff all over it and really needed a good vacuuming. The bed is rock hard. I wouldnt call this a bed and breakfast because it is a continental breakfast. All in all it was a nice place to stay away from the crowd of Manhattan. Nice to take the ferry in and know there is a quiet place to sleep after a long day in the city. The price is right and I would come and stay again.

2021-12-05Loved staying here back in October. The view out front is to die for and totally worth the stay whether you travel around or just stay to hang out in the house. You can walk along the harbor and go to Ralphs Italian Ice around the corner. Management was very nice and accommodating. Plan to stay here on my next visit to NYC

2021-09-20I loved everything about this bed and breakfast! My boyfriend was beyond nervous about driving his car from Georgia to New York for our visit. Staying in Manhattan would have been difficult to find affordable and safe parking. Staten Island and the Harbor House Bed and Breakfast was the solution. We had peace of mind being able to see our car secure at night and when we woke up. And it was free! The owner greeted me with helpful advice and a tour through the surprisingly large home. The two door system and personal room keys added to my feeling of security and comfort as a guest. We had a private bathroom and a fridge in our room that we got to enjoy to ourselves. And when we looked out of our window we got to see the beautiful Manhattan skyline and hear the sounds of the waves hitting the shore. It was about a ten minute Lyft ride to the Staten Island Ferry which is also free and follows a convenient schedule going back and forth to Manhattan. The breakfast served at the Harbor House featured fresh bagels, fruit, cereal, yogurt, coffee, juices, etc. I was more than pleased but if nothing there sparks your interest there is an amazing local bagel shop right around the corner. Lastly, when I announced my surprise engagement to the owner I felt like I was telling a friend. I was touched by the congratulations and happy wishes that were extended to us. We will definitely be back!

2021-09-01Positive: The location was awesome. Great view of Manhattan skyline. Negative: Would have preferred not having bunk beds but you get what get when you book at the last moment. Overal a great place. Will book again in the near future.

2018-06-18Moe is absolutely wonderful and a great host. He is present when needed and you call him if he is not on site if needed as well. He does not impeded or intrude on your privacy but is nice and approachable if you have questions about the area or just to chat. He was very accommodating and even upgraded our roomWith as many rooms as there are, all the guests were respectful and mindful in terms of noise level and there was never an issue with hearing people in other rooms while in mine. The price is very affordable and there are a handful of restaurants and delis near by that you can easily walk to. The view itself is gorgeous and literally a breath of fresh air. I was concerned about it being too far away from manhattan but with a free ferry that runs 24/7 nearby it was not a problem at all and of course unbeatable for the cost! The rooms are not up to date and modern but I actually enjoyed that more as I felt a sense of warmth and feeling at home. I was concerned sharing bathrooms was going to be irritating which is why I wanted to avoid a bed and breakfast or hostile type place but there was never a problem there either. I would definitely come to stay here again if I visited, the place has got charm! Thank you Moe for having us, we had a wonderful time.
