Was eating omakase around the corner and couldnt miss an opportunity to get some Harbs cakes. I always wanted to try their signature Mille crepes with all the fruit in the layers, and also ordered the berry berry cake. Its definitely best to eat them right away, but since I was going to dinner, I didnt get to eat them until hours later, so it wasnt as fresh but still very yummy! They were kind enough to put a Ice pack in there to keep it cold for awhile longer. Will def come back and try the other cakes! Just wish they didnt close so early, at 6pm.
One of the more bizarre experiences I’ve had in NYC. My boyfriend and I went to grab two teas while we waited for a table at Sadelles. We told the girl we wanted to enjoy the coffee there. The total comes about $18.50 (expensive already) and we tip. Halfway through our coffees, one of the employees comes up to us and tells us that the girl at the register mischarged us, and we owe them $.50 because it’s more expensive to dine in. I work in a restaurant and any normal establishment would just eat the cost at that point. I asked her if I could just give her the 50 cents and she said no. From what we understand, they were just gonna charge the card in the system. We finish up and leave, and the girl CHASES US OUT OF THE SHOP for $.50. In the restaurant I work at (and any other place I have like pizza shops or froyo ) we would never do this over 50 cents granted it was the employees mistake. So bizarre and such poor hospitality. Will not be coming back
I have been loving their food for many many years, both here and in Japan, but as many people have also pointed out, when they get busy (which is most of the time) they tend to forget about requests and orders. Take out order is taking forever and when you call people to confirm what’s going on they simply ignore you. Again, food is really good but they need to hire more people.
Good dessert and tea but the restrooms are just filthy and unsure if there were routing cleanups planned from the shop at all! We were there for about 1 hour plus and it was super dirty when we first went in and nothing has been cleaned for the time we were there. I can’t imagine with the amount of people visiting and dining in, this is an acceptable experience to them
Weirdest experience. We ordered two drinks to sit down and have at the restaurant. The place was empty. Midway through they tell us they accidentally charged us to go pricing and not for sit down which is 50 more cents. Keep in mind this was a 20 dollar order and we left a tip. They tell us we need to pay right away, we have 50 cents in our pocket but they won’t accept it saying they need to run out card again. Over 50 cents for a sit down fee. Horrible hospitality and just bizarre. Lost a customer for life also the drinks weren’t that good.
Can you order more strawberry cakes on weekends?? If you can’t, you can limit the number of cakes a customer can purchase. It does not make any sense to have all strawberry cakes and other cakes sold out at 3:30pm when you close at 8pm!!!!! I can be a loyal customer but I don’t like you guys anymore!!!!!!!!
I went there alone and was told to wait for 20-30mins for a seat, which was fine. But waited for a much longer time for a seat and apparently they let the others behind me in first. I was too hungry to stay there, so ended up with getting something quickly and leaving. Definitely will think twice before I try the place again.
Cant love it more! I normally dont like sweets, cakes, and bubble tea. But I need some sugar, HARBS is the place. Nice collection of tea, awesome toast, and cake. Also, the best service you can have. For tea, I highly recommend fruit cocktail. For cakes, they are all good, but if you see strawberry ones, please try a slice! HARBS only makes those cakes when strawberries are delicious. Also, the potato in a salad ( comes with a sandwich ) is the soul of the whole salad, try it and you wont regret it.
Love this place, the Crepe cake is always a must for the table. This last trip we have the Lemon Pasta which was so light and great, BLT Sandwich is superb too.The staff is efficient and friendly. Although this location is in the busy Soho District, the service was great and our waiters were very attentive. The place is clean and well maintained.Love that this location have a bar and just table seating.
Harbs is a cute Asian bakery that is quite chic. Cakes are uber sweet and very pretty. They make a very short espresso shot so be aware. The cakes are pricy but then again quality usually is. I think this place is worth a visit. Please follow @joannasable on instagram for more food and travel fun.
Service was really nice. But we don’t like the cakes , and coffee latte and tea . Cakes are full of bananas ( Mille crepe) . All you can taste is cream and bananas .. we don’t like this . Coffee latte for 8$ before tax was just awful. First of all it was not latte it was just americano with milk . For 8 dollars you expect at least regular good latte . Special tea for 9$ with Apple and ginger was nothing special and really cheap quality. And they serve cakes with some horrible foil and it make cake really messy , look at the picture . So , we will not go back . Lady M cake is much better, trust me.
Food is good, nothing special. The service is SLOW!!!! Where is the manager..? Maybe sleeping in the back..?? Waited 25 mins for a coffee and a slice of pie. Maybe in Japan they are not in a rush and this is normal for them... well this is NYC, so slow is not good. The waitress when I checked why it was taking so long was actually surprised I asked...! Not worth it, sorry.
Weve been at the counter for five minutes and no one has taken our order, the three clerks pretended not want to see us. We were going to order strawberry cake, and while we were standing at the counter and being ignored, the customer in the back heard that we were going to order strawberry cake and told the clerk to change their cake to strawberry cake. The clerk responded immediately (however deliberately ignoring us before) and immediately told us that the strawberry cake was gone. The store manager (in black clothes) appeared and ignored the question we wanted to ask. Sucks
I am giving one star only because I cannot give negative five stars. We paid for the cake, waited for half a hour, and was told that the cake was sold out! The staff didn’t even show apologies for wasting the customer’s time. They just kept saying that they don’t have the cake. Will never visit this place. 🥶😤
Beautiful interiors at the W Broadway location. First and only time there I got a slice of lemon cake to go (March 2021). Staff was not friendly in the least, very stiff, and very little eye contact. While the cake was in a beautiful package and looked very nice, which could also explain the prices - felt like i paid extra for an elaborate box and bag. But the cake itself lacked all flavor. I didn’t taste like lemon. It didn’t taste like anything. There was cream. Super bland. I see there are some rave reviews, perhaps I ordered the wrong thing. Maybe bland is just part of their style of cake.
The cakes were good as usual and the vibe was great. However, the server was not patient nor professional enough to know the difference of the drinks they provide. We ordered Sencha and Matcha Genmai. When one of our drink was brought to our table, they just said ‘’green tea’’. As we tried to verify which one was it, the person responded in an inpatient manner with the same answer. It is true that both Sencha and Matcha Genmai can be categorized as green tea, but Sencha does not equal to green tea, nor does Matcha.
I came here after missing Mont Blanc desserts in Japan and Harbs did not disappoint. Relaxing atmosphere with high ceilings, friendly staff, high quality desserts and a wide variety of teas. If you love chestnut, you MUST try a slice of their Marron cake. ありがとうございました!
Great place for afternoon tea or a light bite after shopping in soho. The fruit crepes cake is stuffed with all the fresh ingredients and I feel satisfied without overwhelming sweetness. It’s amazing and rare find in Soho. Additionally, I have to mention the restrooms which I never mention it in restaurant reviews, it is super clean and have all the high techs that I thought I was in Japan.
Not saying I was amazed, but overall a descent dessert shop to go.Ordered Mille Crepe and Pear Feuille; they taste very refreshing at first few bites, but if you think about it there’s really nothing very outstanding with them. However, due to the environment and a good price, still a 4-star to me and I’ll probably stop by once in a while.A “worth stopping by” 4-star.
Three of us arrived at 1:45 pm and waited about 15 minutes to sit down. We ordered three teas, two pastas and one sandwich. The air conditioning was broken (uncomfortable and horrible circumstances for COVID) so we started to get antsy after about an hour when our food still had not arrived. One hour and 40 minutes later, our food arrived. It took another 45 minutes to order cake and get our check, on which nothing was comped. $125 plus tip, plus three hours later, we will absolutely never return to this location. While a restaurant is certainly not obligated to comp anything on a check, it is customary to do so when there are truly out of the ordinary and disappointing circumstances.
Come here from time to time to buy some cakes I love, and I buy every birthday cake from here. They are really tasty, and the cream and fruits are soooo fresh! I think they are the best in NYC and perhaps in the whole America. And please, make the Peach Cake again!!!!!!!! :((( I really want to taste that again.
Really liked the food and cake and the setting itself. But they were so slow. Went in a little before 2pm on a Friday. Seated right away. Took a while for a server to check if I was ready to order. Food and coffee came out quick at about 2:05. But then my cake took more than 50 mins. Idk if the server who asked if I was ready for my cake forgot or what but no cake. But then later a server did see I was looking bored and asked which cake I ordered. But then still no cake. I got the attention of a 3rd server and then my cake came by about 6 mins later. Also paid with my card and they took forever to bring it back. I ended up leaving after like 3:45. A couple that came in and sat down maybe 30 mins after me left before I did.
Very fancy but super bad service. Went with my wife and sat on the bar, they kept ignoring us for 5-10 min until we asked for service and place our order. After 10 min we switch to a table and again they ignored us and the order never came. We finally decided to walk away with a very bad taste. Definitely if you don’t look Asian keep away of this place because you will not be important for them and will be ignored.
SO SLOW...and they dont allow 2 people sharing a piece of cake....you must order one item per customer, which in my opinion, forcing customers to spend is the worst way to do business. Definitely not a place to enjoy and not a place we would come back. And nothing special about cakes here either....and VERY SLOW SERVICE FOR PRE-MADE CAKE!!
We were a group of four on Saturday, so the wait was obviously there. It wasnt long though, and we were seated at the back. The table wasnt large enough for what we ordered, but we made it work.We ordered a pasta and four slices of cake: fruit mille crepe, pear mille-feuille, green tea red bean, and the cheesecake. The fruit crepe cake really did live up to its name, as I loved the light and airiness of every single bite. I also thoroughly enjoyed the cheesecake, but all of the slices of cake tasted amazing. All four flavors were great though. We also had their tea, which was pricey but also it was free refills so the value wasnt too bad. HARBS is a wonderful dessert place and I would definitely return.
Waited more than 20 min for one piece of cake to-go and people who were behind me in the line got theirs first. When I asked why they said they missed my order and told me the cake I ordered became unavailable and made me pay one dollar more for a cake that was available and more expensive. They werent sorry at all.
Look, what can we say -- as we pulled up to Harbs on a Revel??? This place has helped get us and out kids through the pandemic! The lunch sets -- complete with drink (I get ice coffee), awesome sandwich or pasts and dessert -- was (still is) something to live for on particular difficult, been-stuffed-in-our-NYC-apartment-for-too-too-freakin-long weekend afternoons! We love the pasta, we love the coffee, the cakes and, especially, the amazing hospitality and top-notch service! Thanks---Arigato Gozaimasu!!!
Best Asian style cake Ive ever had but Im just not a fan of this type of food. The chocolate cake was the perfect balance of light and fluffy with a hint of chocolate that underwhelmed me. Compared to American style cakes they simply lack the flavor (read: sugar) that I have come to expect. If you like Asian style cakes you will probably love this establishment and will gladly pay $10 a slice but for me it didnt do the trick.
I LOVE those negative reviewers complaining about HARBS cakes higher-than-what-the-traffic-will-bear prices. Well, you KNEW what you were gonna be paying for a slice of whatever looked good to you before sitting down, why the whining after the fact??? You probably need to work on your decision-making skills or stop hanging around with your well-to-do friends who are MUCH more comfortable eating at sophisticated establishments like HARBS.
One of my favorite dessert in NYCThey got japanese style cake, compare to American style, Japanese style will be less sweet.I love to come here for lunch special. You got to choose main dish from either sandwich or pasta, with refillable tea or coffee. And daily cake. Very worth it!
I have the good fortune to live In the building where this excellent new Japanese Cake and Food restaurant makes its home. Their Teas are delicious and ample, 2 cups per serving. Their cakes are unsurpassed for sweet scrumptiousness and the most outstanding food preparation on their menu for me was the heavenly STEAK SANDWICH. with wonderful country crusty bread and grilled onions and other tasty garnishments. Wow! my mouth is watering just thinking about it.
HARBS is a Japanese cafe / bakery serving up sweet and savory eats in SoHo.the space is super large is open, airy and warm. super clean design aesthetic: brightly lit, organized modern cafe has seating options that stretch from the front to back. the cakes and pies are displayed artfully in glass refrigerated displays. the vibe is very relaxed and uncluttered. as soon as you walk in, you’re greeted by a showcase of beautifully baked sweet eats. the right side of the space has desserts on display, order counter, and coffee bar. the rest of the space is dedicated to the cafe-style seating.the dessert options are pretty amazing. the portions are big and shareable. the cakes and pies are light, air, fluffy, and pleasing to the eye.current fave is the Irish cream cheesecake. the blend of flavors was quite delightful. you get the whisky flavor and smooth cream touch without overpowering it overpowering the actual cheesecake. the cheesecake is fairly silky and light— definitely isn’t super-dense or thick. definitely it dates that sugartooth desire without being too sweet.cake and pie slices range in price from $9-$11—a bit steep—but the desserts here are more of an indulgence than an everyday habit.i’ve only done takeout at this location. it was cool that they have packed my dessert purchases with a cooling gel packets so the sweet eats don’t get warm and mushy. it’s a nice touch especially as the temperatures go up in the summer.the coffee is just okay. specifically the iced coffee is pretty meh. maybe the other caffeinated options are better but I was not impressed by the iced coffee at HARBS. it tasted fairly burnt and acidic.drops mic cuz i am leading the sweet life
The service and food was amazing! The mint tea was delicious and so flavorful it was just amazing! The bruschetta was out of this world, if you do not enjoy tomatoes then it is extremely convenient because they come in the side, the bread with garlic is outstanding and wether or not you choose to add tomatoes it is OUTRAGEOUSLY delicious! The restaurant is outdone and just gorgeous and the design is breath taking! The cake is also delicious and BEAUTIFULLY STUNNING, the chefs pay very close attention to detail and a must visit restaurant in New York!
Disappointed at the service. If you only care about the cake and someone safely bring the cake to the table, this review is not for you.I have been a regular at the other two Harbs spots in the city for the past three years. The cakes are great, and the service has been mediocre but ok. However, when we went to this new spot on a Friday afternoon, there were two staff working there and we were not even greeted. One of them was serving customers, the other saw us and continued arranging the cakes. After 5 minutes wait, she was done with the cakes and paid attention to us. This is definitely not Japanese client servicing standard -- Harbs does advertise its Japanese origin.Every time I come to Harbs, I order at least one drink and one cake, sometimes two. This was the first time I only wanted to introduce their amazing cakes to my friend but not felt wanting a piece for myself. When we ordered only one cake, the waitress told us in cold voice that we each had to order. Well, I understand some cafés have such rule, especially at busy and popular places. But the place was 90% empty at that moment (only two other tables were taken). Moreover, there was no expression like sorry, but you both need to order... or you can order a coffee if you dont want to eat.... Its just You each have to order if you want to sit down and poker face. I was surprised and asked Sorry? She couldnt be bothered to answer me again but just looked at me.I recognize the waitress used to work at their Chelsea spot. I am not sure if the new spot is under different management and they provide a-hole-on-the-wall style service. It was quite disappointing.
I loved coming to harbs w my friends whenever I’m in soho, but my experience today was just so disappointing! The food was great as usual and I loved how the desserts were not too sweet, however, it felt like the ventilation was not working at all and there was no air conditioning indoors the entire time. Note that there has been a heat wave warning throughout nyc, and sitting indoors without ac or any ventilation is beyond unbearable. I felt sick less than half an hour sitting inside, and then it started to get uncomfortable for me to even sit in there. By the end of the stay I almost felt like throwing up so I had to leave for some fresh air. Imagine eating anything in that environment! It was just disgusting. And then I remembered them not having any heater working during the winter and I had to eat cakes shivering. This is just how the place functions! They never have any proper temperature/air flow mechanisms working to begin with! I’ll think twice about coming back here ever again. And if I could I’d def file a complaint.
Out of all the HARBS I’ve been to in NYC (there are three), this one might be my favorite. It offers all of the delicious and wonderful cakes from the original locations, like the fruity signature mille crepe to the decadent seasonal chocolate custard cake in an open and lively atmosphere. The brightly lit interior lets you see how beautiful these rather large cakes are, and you can have a nice pot of tea or cup of coffee on the side. They also do sandwiches and salads there if anyone wants a full tea party lunch! I would definitely recommend this location for larger groups and people with strollers as there is a larger seating area, but it is also comfortable for people coming alone if they want to have a seat at the bar!
First of all, the service speed is really slow. There are not many shop assistants. I feel that they are very leisurely and the service is not very skilled.Secondly, this store has a policy of at least 1 order per person, which I don’t quite understand. He didnt know how many cakes were sold in the store? He couldnt pick the one he wanted. I think this 1 order per person policy is unreasonable at all. Finally, the cakes and drinks are pretty average. I ordered yogurt lemon, crepes and orange mint, none of them are recommended.Combining the service and strange policy of this store, I will not come to the store for the second time. I even hope that everyone will not use it for the first time not to escape the heat.

2022-05-29Great cake selection. Got the mille crepes, which was very delicious, not too sweet, which I appreciate. Also, the iced coffee was decent. It has a lot of space inside.1 star deducted because the table was sticky.

2022-07-03Ok pieces of cake in terms of flavor, texture and overall quality. Wouldnt say it was good value for money as Ive had better cake for considerably less cost. Not sure I would return

2021-10-04A Japanese cafe. Everything is a little bit pricey but cakes and teas are great. The interior is very unique. Its like a cold lab. Thats why I prefer the Chelsea branch.

2022-04-10Careful! The high price point doesn’t always reflect the actual quality!Ordered a whole tiramisu cake ($110) for a birthday & was shown the cake bare when picked up. The message was added on behind the scenes, boxed up & then handed to me. Later when I opened the cake I saw the saddest, shoddiest, almost hilarious “happy birthday” scribbled on a tiny piece of chocolate placed in the center.Imagine presenting this to someone on their birthday with a straight face? I was mortified!

2022-02-27Harbs SoHo is not the first Harbs location, but its the most spacious. Its a Japanese cafe specializes a variety of Japanese cake. They also offer savory items and lunch sets. The menu is not cheap, but the quality of food and service is good.

2022-05-11Always a fan of HARBS’ fruit Mille crepes. This is something you couldn’t find in other bakeries. However, I’m underwhelmed by this recent piece. The strawberries in it tasted weird and other fruits‘ flavors are not coming through.Get it together HARBS!

2021-12-27The cake is good! The fruit is fresh! But the staffs are not friendly and we waited 40mins for two piece of cakes. Earl grey tea and cafe au lait are both mediocre. My friend and I weren’t happy about the overall experience even the cake is quite good.

2021-11-23Best millecrepe I ever had. But today 11/23/2021 the staff at checkout is TERRIBLE!!! Unfriendly, unhelpful, no smile and no greeting at all. The cake is good, but it almost melt and not that good when I bring it home, it is because the staff didn’t put ice bag in it(I do get the ice bag when I shop here last time). The cakes are good as usual, just bad service while the service used to be very good.

2022-01-26On a chilly afternoon, done with shopping we stepped in for hot tea and what we hoped would be delicious deserts. The person behind the counted after giving out vaccine card a look over said nothing and actually turned his back on us. With only a few people in the shop and we had no difficulty sitting ourselves. We waited for a waiter to bring us menus but no one came over. A person behind the counter was busy talking on the phone, two others were busy doing something and paid no attention to us. We waited for a while, and then waited some more, then my wife remained at the table and I went to see the desert. The display was mostly empty. There was half a dozen different cakes, no more. Finally a waiter came to our table. She was wearing a white lab coat and a double if not a triple mask, making it impossible to understand what she was saying. It made us think that at any moment someone will hit an emergency button, the place will be sealed from outside and we will be ushered into decontamination shower. We ordered a slice of strawberry and a slice of banana cake and a pot of tea. When out order arrived everything was showed onto the table with no attempt to properly place the silverware or to properly arrange a tea pot and cups. The cakes were wrapped in tin foil that the waiter didnt bother to remove. When I tried to pour tea into my wife’s cup I noticed that it was dirty inside. The cakes had a taste and a texture of a mildly flavored drywall speckle. A couple of bites was more than either of us could swallow. My wife and I agreed that we had better tea, better deserts, and by far better service at roadside snack shacks. As were leaving, we noticed a Mexican bar next door where wonderfully friendly and attentive people served us delicious margaritas and chips with spicy salsa that helped us to get rid of nasty aftertaste left by the cakes and the service.

2021-12-28This is too gross at current time… found a hair on the slice of queen cake and tried to call few times to let them know but no one picked up the phone… seriously check if you following the nyc restaurant health protocol??
