Im a 1st time fur mama & the place is wonderful! I was put at ease by the staff & the cleanliness. My baby had her first vaccines & a tear to her little paw looked at. They have free treats for the babies & plenty of hand sanitizer for us parents. Ask for senior/fixed income adjustments on your bill... every little bit helps @Harlem Animal Hospital. I recommend highly 👌🏽 👏🏽 👍🏽 💯 😀 🙌🏽
I first brought my cat in to get a check-up and because she was always throwing up. After doing tests on my cat, the vet put my cat on medication for an issue with her stomach, the vet also told me I would also have to do some dental work, but first I would have to put my cat on medication and come back in one month.I came back after a month and had a different vet. What the first vet failed to tell me, is that I would have to come back within five hours of the cat taking the medication for the blood test to work. So my visit was a waste of time, but they were nice enough to not charge me. I was also not told during the first visit that the cat would be on medication for life. The other issue is that even though the cat has been on medication for months, she is still throwing up.There have been two different occasions when I have called the vets to get a refill on the medication and when I called back again to see if it was ready, I found out my refill was never processed.I have called the vets up twice over the last couple of months to find out when I need to get the cats dental work done and let them know that my cat is still being sick and no one has got back to me. They also dont respond to emails. Most of the front desk girls are unprofessional, they look miserable, and act like you are bothering them when you ask a question. (There was one older lady behind the desk that was very nice and vet techs were also really nice).I am now looking to take my cat somewhere else since this vet has proven to be incompetent. I feel I have wasted my time and money at this vet and regret ever going.
Update 5/14/21: I am updating my review from 1 star to 5 stars. After leaving my review, Dr. Kiani reached out to me to discuss my concerns and worked with me to resolve it. I am happy to know that they do value their relationships with their clients and I no longer have to look elsewhere for care for my dogs. They do really care for the animals and are honest about their approach.Posted 5/12/21: My dogs have been patients at Harlem Animal Hospital since 2017 and I have taken all my dogs there since. I chose Harlem Animal Hospital because of the quality of their service, reliability, and genuine care of my pups. However, recently during COVID, when everyone was getting pets, the reliability and care has diminished considerably and it seems that they have no time to accommodate all their patients. If you call for an appointment now, you are told by a very cold and extremely uncaring front desk team that they are overbooked for the next 3 months and there is nothing they can do. The last time I called I was told that there was a meeting going on and they couldnt even take my call which was during normal business hours. Perhaps they should look for additional doctors or not have taken on so many clients that they can no longer provide the personalized service they once offered. Unfortunately I am forced to look elsewhere for the care of my pets.
Not sure why people are complaining of long waits; every where you go there is. This place takes the time to answer your questions, understand why youre there; physical of your pet or because they are sick. I have gone to others and the care here is exceptional. One on one with doctors caring and understanding. Will continue to have them care for my luna girl
When we moved to NYC, we chose the Harlem Animal Hospital to take care of our dog’s veterinary needs. Naturally, we also decided to use their services to file the international travel certificate when the time came for us to move back to Brazil.Trying to be conservative in order to avoid any problems, I scheduled two consultations with the only person responsible for international certificates emission.I’ve never been so disrespected in my life! She did not show up for the first one, and another vet administered the required vaccines to my pet but I could not clarify the questions I had about the international process. On the second time, 9 days before our flight, and after driving 2 hours from long island to the hospital - the vet again did not show up.I told her on the phone that this was the second time I was trying to reach her and that I thought she was being disrespectful. She responded that it was my problem and that she could just not come at all - as if she was making me a huge favor, showing up for her appointments.I will now do my dog’s documentation at the University Animal Hospital.I wish Dr. K, understood that we were not there waiting for her because we wanted to, we trusted the Harlem Animal Hospital help us in something that was sensitive and very important to us.As I learned that she is the vet responsible for the whole clinic, I would not recommend anyone to trust their pets to people who just could not care less about it.
An unpleasant reason to stop in, handled with care, consideration, and professionalism. They abide by the oath to do the best for creatures . . Respect.I work in the veterinary industry. We have to be graceful with all animals . . Those that have guardians are lucky, those who are strays have angels. This team did good.
Great drs friendly staff; they explain in detail don’t try to nickel n dime you. Have been going to them for about a year n half very pleased with the care n service of my fur babies!!! Even adopted a stray cat that was dropped off to them! Will recommend honesty great people and service ❤️
I have loved this veterinary clinic for 6 years. Dr Kiani saved Monty-cat when he had a complicated UTI, semi-blockage, and I am grateful for the excellent surgical and post-op care he received 3.5 years ago. Ms Marion in reception has always been kind, even if occasionally harried; the junior receptionists have been a rotating crew, some nice and about 70% are sullen. The vets are knowledgeable, and theres one vet tech (i wish I remembered her name-- its a virtue...) who is an angel.Covid has been rough on businesses, and the changing protocols; and I had an especially rough experience last Monday (late Sept 2021- had an appt, was there 4 hours, a few communication snafus, then they gave me meds for the cat but not enough for the course, charged my card the wrong way-- care credit gives you 6 months interest free to pay a big bill, dont put it through as a normal MC charge). Anyway, many new staff and Im glad the practice is growing; one bad day but the whole of my experience is why they drop only a bit, and down to 4 stars.
I no longer see the nice young girl at the front on Sundays! Every other receptionist are very rude and don’t know how to talk/deal with the client in a nice way! This place is very unprofessional when it comes to the doctors as well. Dr Colon in general can sometimes come off very rude while speaking to me and aggressive with my pet! I DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!
Called about new puppy and they refused to give any prices over the phone for services— not even an ball park estimate. And she seemed shocked and dismissive of the incredulity of such “policies”. Dog parents should have some idea what they are walking into. I found this very suspect, unprofessional and potentially very unsafe for a delicate puppy. Especially in the name of safety and health. My pup now goes to the Humane Society.
Despite being an established patient of this clinic, and having had several visits over the past year, we have had incredible difficulty in speaking to a vet or vet tech over the phone for emergencies. The final straw: when we were camping last week and ran into a pet emergency, we rang the vet office to ask a question about whether or not we could use a medication from our first aid kit on our dog in order to prevent infection until we could get home and have her checked out. However the clinic refused to offer any assistance and stated that they could only help us if we bring the dog into the clinic....we were well over two hundred miles away!! As an established patient of this clinic, I thought this was poor practice.I had to call around to find another vet willing to help us over the phone.Update: Dr. Colón reached out to us over the phone to apologize, which I appreciate, and told me she has spoken to her staff to ensure this will not happen again.I appreciate her efforts to reach out, and have updated my review to add a star. While I am disappointed that it took a Google review to have her reach out to me, despite repeated requests I made with the front office to have her call me before, I hope this means we can repair our relationship moving forward.
I gave this 5 stars. I called on a Wednesday very distress (crying) about my dog experiencing lots of pain in his month. His teeth is rotten and needs to be extract. The front desk lady ( Jessica) was very empathetic. I told her that I called other hospital and no one would take him. She then said to me, come in on Friday morning for an emergency appointment. I arrived Friday morning and had a bit of a wait which I understand. After about 40mins my fur baby was taken to see Dr. Colon. The visit took about 3hr. I received a call stating my dog is ready. I was given meds and Dr. Colon suggested dental surgery that cost $3,000. I can not afford it after paying $495 for the visit which includes blood work, exam, and med.Overall the staff was very professional, had lots of knowledge and had lot of empathy. I think this matter more than anything. I just wish this place was more affordable.
Amazing! I took my pup for his routine shots & a check up. At my previous vet, this type of visit was around $400. I paid less than $150 here, and the service was so much better! The techs, receptionists & vet were all so kind and welcoming. My pup hates the vet, but they did everything in their power to make him comfortable. Im happy to say I found my new vet office and Ill be a customer here for as long as possible. Definitely check this place out.
My father is a Veterinarian in the Midwest, and I grew up working at his practice. So I have high standards. Dr. Kiani is the only vet I’ve ever met who I trust completely and totally with my animals. This practice is her baby, and she runs it extremely well! The staff are all true animal lovers! They brought us through the terminal illness and loss of a companion, and frankly...I don’t know how we would have done it without them. The entire staff was wonderful throughout. And again when we brought the new member of our family in a couple months later. The quality of veterinary care here is hands down the best in the city.
Not sure how they have so many good reviews. I have experienced only mixed communication, no communication, and a super stressed vibe such as credit card machine not working and wouldnt let me leave because their machine wasnt working! Had to call twice to get records sent to groomer, told other adoption agency my pet never had heartworm test when I have the records that he did. On hold for 15 minutes to talk to someone. My appointments have always been running late and there is no communication about pricing. I get prompts that vaccinations are due that are not due. Overall confusing and stressful for new pet owner. Will find a vet with a more pleasant experience
Overpriced, doesnt fill important prescriptions on time, they dont respond to emails unless its about billing. I also have to add that the vet (theres multiple so im sure not all of them) missed something really crtical on my pet that i caught later which i ended up going to the ER for. That was the only reason ill never go back there. I need a vet that thorough and catches things before they become pathologic.
Could not be happier with my experience at Harlem Animal Hospital. From booking the appointment to the visit itself, everyone clearly cares about their job & their love for animals was apparent the moment I walked in the door. The staff know their four-legged patients by name & Dr. Barnes narrated her exam step-by-step, telling me what her observations indicated. Both Dr. Barnes & Leandra, the vet tech, handled my cat with care & kindness — at the end, even tucking some treats in her carrier as “snacks for the road.” I know my pet is in good hands with them. Highly recommended.
We boarded our French Bulldog for a total of 9 days which cost us $450. We had imagined that this place would take good care of our dog. Unfortunately, we received our puppy in poorer health after 9 days of boarding. While we do not know the specifics of what they have done over 9 days, our puppy came home overzealous, had less appetite, and with two injuries on her back legs. The items we shared with Harlem Animal Hospital were extremely filthy when we got them back. All her toys were in extremely poor condition. All the toys were excreting dark brown water while we hand-washed them. The inside of her airtight food container was extremely greasy. This tells me that the boarding facilitys air conditioning is somewhat mismanaged or stored the food in warm/hot condition. We never saw our airtight food container turn this greasy. We also shared quite a bit of food just in case something happened. We received about 15% of the food back which tells us that they did not follow our instruction of feeding our puppy slightly over 1/2 cup.Our puppy also seems to have developed some level of anxiety during her mealtime. She used to love her food but now she seems to have lost appetite. I have to stand next to her and pet her for her to finish her meal. I have never witnessed this behavior before boarding her. I suspect some degree of foul play during her mealtime, thus traumatizing my puppy. Our puppy also had two injuries upon picking her up. One leg had an injury which seemed like a bite mark. Another leg had rashes that looked like an allergic reaction. We noticed the injuries on our puppys legs as we were driving back home right after picking her up. Our puppy never showed any of these symptoms under our care. We called the Harlem Animal Hospital immediately but was met with hostility and victim-blaming. When we asked for details of what was done, Harlem Animal Hospital representative only told us that our puppy was completely fine under their care insinuating that we caused these injuries within ten minutes of retrieving our puppy. They asked us to bring her back but did not offer any level of compensation. They were going to charge us additional vet visits for the two injuries she received under their care. After some discussion, the representative ended up reaching out to their medical director. This resulted in receiving future free care for the injuries. We are scheduled to visit them this evening(a day after we retrieved our dog). For the record, they asked us to come in the day of. Unfortunately, we were not able to visit since we were both working from home that day and needed to join in a meeting. I will update this review after the visit. The vet visits were also never adequate and left feeling disdained. We felt that our puppy was treated well and looked after on our very first visit with Dr. Barnes. However, the next couple of vet visits were not pleasant. One instance stands out when they did not have the past paperwork in order which caused a mild confusion in our puppys vaccination process.Harlem Animal Hospital is disorganized. From my experience, I felt that they lack standardized training for their front desk reps. While all the reps were kind, they are not trained adequately to deal with highly stressful situations. This location also lacks proper usage of scheduling software.Needless to say, we would avoid this place for boarding at all costs. Please dont board your dog in this poorly managed boarding facility. We do recommend Dr. Barnes who seems to care for her patients as well as Dr. Colón who seems to be very knowledgeable. At Harlem Animal Hospital, most employees talents are overshadowed by the lack of organization causing mayhem for the team and inadequate care for your pets.
Ive been going to this Hospital for 4 yrs and i will say this, they dont try and cheat you for more money they try to give you the best possible price outcome. I recently put my dog to sleep she lived to be 14yrs old and they treated my dog with so much respect. It did cost me $473 for everything (emergency check up, pts, the cremation with the ashes) none the less it was a nice pass for my pup. I miss her dearly. I will still keep going to this Hospital great place to be good vibes
From the very first moment I walked in, I knew my pet was going to be in good hands. The staff is warm and friendly. The whole office is spotless and not a spec of hair floating around. I am highly allergic to cats and dogs and usually will have an allergy attack visiting vet offices. The rooms and surgical suite are also very spotless. The kennels where the animals are maintained are also very clean and although the animals are in a state of healing they all are looked after very well. Dr. Kiani is very sweet but very straight forward. She is compassionate and cares very deeply for her patients as well as her practice. The girls in front are very friendly also maintain a sense of calm even if there is something to be alarmed about. The vet techs are also very caring and gentle with handling the animals along with their families. Everyone is very professional and I will definitely be moving forward and switching my pets care here moving forward. A big thank you to all of you for caring for La Luna in her time of need!
My wife and I had our first visit today with our almost 4 month old Bella (BostonTerrier). Before this visit we went to another veterinarian that was not as professional and we wasn’t even able to go into the facility. I am so happy that we researched this veterinarian because it was wonderful experience. Not only is it close to our home but they are very professional and took the extra mile to answer any questions we might’ve had . Bella has found her vet. We highly recommend Harlem animal hospital. Thank you from Anneline & Glenn Buckner!! 😊😊😊
Called for a second opinion on a giardia case in my dog, was told they couldn’t see him until December and refused to quote me their price for a particular medication for no apparent reason, and the phone manner of the person was just unbelievably short like I was somehow asking something ridiculous. I will be going elsewhere now and in the future.
I love this hospital! Im a student living in NYC so it can be very difficult for me to make sure that my pet is healthy and gets the best treatment at a reasonable price. At Harlem Animal Hospital, they always try to stick to a budget that I work out with them unless absolutely necessary and I trust them to know that they wont deem something necessary that isnt! Theyre extremely nice and loving towards your pet! Would highly recommend!
The staff is just amazing. They are very courteous and knowledgeable. My cat is extremely aggressive.I thought that no one would be able to remove his dreaded fur which covered a large portion of his body. However, the staff at Harlem animal hospital knew exactly what tactics to use to subdue him to get him groomed and perform a full physical. These guys are really great.
Had a bad experience at another Vet & ended up coming here instead. Dr. Sanabria is an amazing veterinarian and definitely cares about the animals she treats. She took the time to call me and explain exactly what my dogs blood work meant. She also responded very quickly when I had an emergency with my dog. I will be bringing my other dog to see her as well. Highly recommend!
BEST ANIMAL HOSPITAL IN NYC!The entire staff is amazing they have taken such great care of our puppy for the last year.Dr. Barnes is the kindest vet! She truly cares for her furry patients. She is efficient and we always trust her with our baby boy Rumi. Our entire family is so grateful to Dr. Barnes and the staff for being so on top of everything when a couple of months our baby had an accident and broke his leg.She went above and beyond and gave the best advice and our baby boy is healed and running around like he never even had a broken leg.Thank you all :)hugs from us and Rumi
Had an amazing time bringing our dog here today! The place was very clean and the front desk girls were very nice. We had an awful experience at Manhattan Veterinary Group, so we’re so glad we found the right place for us! The technician (Linda maybe?) was so caring and Dr. Colon even more so. They took the time with our dog, did a through examination, and answered all of our questions intelligently and with a smile. We will be bringing our dog here going forward!
I love this animal hospital! The staff is really nice and the doctor is great. They dont surprise you with bills, they will tell you straight up what your options are for your pet and which avenues are best to take, as a pet parent you get to make the best choice without the hassle and guilt trip some other vets make you go through. My kitty had to stay here for a few days and granted he wasnt happy to be away from home, he was still well taken care of at this facility. I like that the doctor and staff is available when you need them and are willing to work with you. Definitely recommend this place to any pet owner.
Ive brought my cat here for the last year and half, for everything from exams/vaccines to her spay procedure. I have loved Harlem Animal Hospital -- Marion, Dr. Barnes and Dr. Sanabria have all been amazing and have taken such good care of my cat. Now, I brought my puppy Rey in last Sunday and we saw Dr. Yusef who was not very personable and really didnt give us any information unless we flat out asked. My puppy was coughing and throwing up the next day so of course I called to see if I should bring her in thinking it was a reaction to the vaccines (DAPP and Bordetella) however I never received a call back. I had to call 4 different times the next morning over the course of 3 hours to finally receive a call back with a technician who told me that my dog is probably sick from the weather or coughing from the heat in my apartment. Now my puppy is still coughing and threw up again today and I will be taking her to another vet because Im so annoyed with this entire sitation and the lack of unprofessionalism and care.EDIT:I ended up seeing Dr. Kiani who assured me Rey was just having a reaction to the Bordetella vaccine. She also gave me alot more information on puppies in general and what to look out for in the future. The visit 100 percent put me at ease and was what Im normally used to. Thanks again Dr. Kiani!
The Harlem animal hospital is so unpleasant and unprofessional. I had a appointment that I was never called for and my dogs and cat needed there appointment. I called to see how this could be resolved and I was met with a Nasty employee and I was told that there was nothingThey could do and I ask to speak with someone in charge I was told there was no one in charge this place is a joke
Dr. Kiani and her staff, especially Marion, are the best there is. Ive been going to her since she opened. I had been to numerous vets since Mookie had a special personality. One vet said I had a vicious Frenchie, the other took him away to do tests (he wasnt happy) but not with Dr. Kiani. She understood that Mookie was quirky and she loved him for it. All of the procedures were done with me in the room which, made both Mookie and me more comfortable. Even when we moved from Harlem to the Upper West Side, around the corner from a well known practice, we continue to go to HAH. You never let go of a good vet.Marion, is a rockstar at the front desk. She is caring and knows what each dog and owner needs. She double checks everything and makes sure that each pet and owner is met with a smile..Ive read reviews that complain about a wait time, I cherish it. I know that Dr. Kiani is giving the pet before me what they need and she will do the same with Mookie. She takes her time and is solely concentrated on the animal she is with. I would wait all day to have Dr. Kiani look at my boy.A couple of weeks ago we saw, via X-rays, that my Mookie had aggressive liver and stomach cancer. Dr. Kiani and Dr. Colon were supportive and proactive. We decided to put let him go with dignity and grace and Dr. Kiani and Marion made a really sad moment bare able.I am forever grateful for the love and care that Dr. Kiani and her staff gave my beautifully quirky French Bulldog Mookie. I cant wait to bring our new puppy to see her.
Based on my first visit Dr. Kiani is a great vet. She is very caring and compassionate to animals and humans. She also explains thing very nicely and I asked many questions. She answered them all and more than once and she had no problem. Dr. Kiani does not nickle and dime you! All her staff was very pleasant and professional. The technician was even comforting my cat while holding him. Choosing the right vet can be hard. You want to know is the vet good, do they care and are the going to charge you a lot. She is a good vet, she cares and she is very fair in her prices. She is my new vet and can not be more happy I found her.
If you love your animal -DONT BRING THEM HERE! Theres no communication between staff and doctors! They are hospital? Really them why couldnt they treat my dog? They refer me someplace else! Doctors dont call you back when you request it. Theyre always saying we are busy. Theyll misdiagnosis your animal. For ex: doctor knew my dog was in the hospital, her tech call me to confirm appointment for shots for the next day? They are too expense. Do go there!! They are horrible!
We had never tried this place because when we initially moved the city, there was one closer that got better reviews. However, when our dog died unexpectantly at home, they were the only ones open and they were AMAZING! The receptionist and the vet tech were very kind and compassionate and allowed us as much as we needed to say goodbye to our sweet Lizzie. We are very thankful! This will now be our permanent veterinarian.
I went in with a very sick cat, and what made it less burdensome was the excellent staff; The level of professionalism yet warm and personal interaction made a terrible situation tolerable. They made the necessary tests, and examination with firm but loving hands, to minimize the amount of trauma my cat would have to endure. And finally on top of all that, realizing I am an elderly retired ex-Navy man, instead of charging me the the full ticketed price of exam, and blood work, they found a way to lessen the charge substantially, without me even asking. The compassion came through loud and clear.Thankful for them.
We love Dr. Colon, shes very nice saddly the service of the staff, in general, is terrible.I have two dogs. Back in Dec19-Jan20, I had to take them both for urinary issues and due vaccines. I paid for Rocos bill, including the meds, at front. After 3 weeks, many phone calls, in-person visits, deling with rude staff and forced double payment, I was abel to get the medicine and test results I paid for and my doggie needed. Total disregard for the well being of Roco. Money hungry. After a few more calls and proof that they dont know what they are doing, I was able to get a refund for the double payment they forced me to do for not checking the writing on the bottle nor listening to me. But somehting that should have taken a couple of days took me about 3 weeks. Now, 3 months later Im dealing with Vakitas test. I dropped off the sample and paid for the test on Jan 7th, today April 13th, still no attempt from Harlem Animal Hospital to deliver what was purchased. Again lack of concern for my dog. I called and explaing that I needed a refund for services not-rendered and I was told that they paid the lab to test the sample so I wont be seen the money. GREAT BUISNESS PRACTICE! I sent an email explaingn and Im waiting for a response. Otherwise, I will call my credit card and dispute the charge.
Everyone was very helpful and friendly. They made what could have been a stressful experience enjoyable. No long wait but they took time to explain to me what was happening with my puppy. The office was neat, clean and smelled good which is a huge plus! They made me and my puppy feel comfortable and welcomed. Dr. Kiani was absolutely amazing! Shes funny and caring, Im so happy shes in the neighborhood and i will definitely be recommending her to other pet owners. The technician Kelsey who also works the front desk was great as well, down to earth, friendly and seems to actually love her job (something thats hard to find) Im glad i found them!
Dr. Kiani is amazing, personable, and detail-oriented. She is up-to-date with the technology and takes photos to share things that she finds during her examinations or during surgery. She explains options, discusses various approaches to pet care, and is an all-around amazing veterinarian. I love bringing my cat to her.
I have had a great experience with this vet. Dr. Kiani regularly sees my 7 year old male boxer mix. The staff are friendly and helpful. Dr. Kiani is knowledgeable and clearly loves animals and caring for them. Very caring and hard working. The place is nice but can get very busy because Dr. Kiani is in demand. I recommend calling ahead and making an appointment and get your dog in there for regular visits. Dr. Kiani spotted some things in my dog before I did. Great for preventative care but this place does it all, including surgery so I trust it more. Such a great spot for your dog in Harlem. You wont be disappointed!!
I made an appointment for my 10 year old shih tzu whos belly tumors were spreading & I knew we had to take care of it ASAP. (We had left two vets at this point because they were just awful people.) Im a dog walker & I know you have to REALLY love animals to do this for a living. Cant tell you how glad I found Harlem Animal Hospital. Dr. Sanabria is so patient, talks to you about your options, & just genuinely loves her furry patients, even when theyre being testy :) She got our pup tested quickly & we had her surgery done a few weeks after, which was done by Dr. Kiani, also fantastic. My little gal is fully recovered, cancer-free, her silly/sassy old self again. Completely trust them & am never going to another vet. Believe the reviews, theyre the real deal.
Dr. Kiani is one of the most caring veterinarians I have ever had the good fortune to meet. She has a great bedside manner and -- beyond knowing every furry patient by name -- she is an extremely knowledgeable doctor, who not only took the time to thoroughly examine my cat but also explained what was happening with her in a way that I could understand. Her staff are always professional and strive to make me and my cat feel comfortable whenever we visit. I cant recommend Dr. Kiani and her practice enough. Five stars!
I went to Harlem Animal Hospital when I lived in New York about 2.5 years ago. I raved about them when they went to extraordinary measures to help my poor cat through several health issues. From crystals in her urine, a suspected chicken allergy that turned out to be ringworm, they were nothing but caring, compassionate and understanding, especially since she wasnt the best tempered cat through this process. Even when boarding her, they would accomodate her anti-social attitude and timid nature and let her out to stretch her legs at times when the hospital was quiet, so she wouldnt get scared. Two and a half years later, Im STILL trying to find a vet like Dr. Kiani and her staff. Seriously, I cant thank them enough for the care they gave to my cat and to my well-being knowing she was being well-taken care of.
I had a such a great experience a month ago when I needed a international health certificate to have my mom take my dog to Europe. I had to get everything ready within days before a flight. It worked good and all paperwork received from this clinic was approved at jfk airport and my yorkie was good to fly.Everyone was so friendly.
Great vet, but have never waited less than 45mins with an appointment, sometimes as lone as an hour and 15 mins. People arriving later with ostensibly non-urgent pets seem to go ahead of you. I live next door, surely theres a system where Im called 5mins before theyre ready so Im not filling up the tiny waiting room, distressing my animals, and wasting my own time.
My pup Lyla had a serious injury and needed emergency help and follow up. I cant stress this enough - this is the most skilled and professional staff you can ever ask for. They had a very rare injury to deal with in surgery and they absolutely did a fantastic job. I cant imagine risking going to another vet. This practice is the real deal.
Dr. Kiani and her staff always friendly and extremely helpful. My cat had an injury on its paw and they signed me in after working hours instead sending somewhere else. They kept my cat over night in clinic, because I had to go to work. I looked to another reviews, before decided to write my own. Yes, sometimes, it takes time, before you get in, but they always explain why: surgery or patients, that need to be first, because of theirs conditions. I am a student with part time work, I cant afford Vet in my area, but I could afford Harlem Vet. Clinic. They are very straight forward with prices even over the phone. And if my cat would be dead to be cremated, I always would pass my appointment to anyone could be saved. My sister is Vet back in Europe, unfortunately I have learnt, how to share my room with street cats!:) Dr. Kiani got me from the first visit, because she said, she is having emergency with injured street cat, I would need to wait. My first thought was, that sounds like my sister and finally I have found real, dedicated Vet. Many thanks!
Dr Kiani is the all time best vet ever!! Youll feel her genuine concern for all her babies! I seeps out of her, she just cant help herself! Its awesome to see!LOL any animal she encounters become her babies! She will explain everything until you understand completely! Youll never take your pet anywhere else after experiencing her TLC for all your pets needs!
Ive really tried to like this vet - who is just around the corner. But twice now Ive been disappointed. The first time, I took my cat in to board overnight and they insisted on doing a check up and charging me for it. I made the mistake of mentioning that he is a very picky eater and before you know it I was talked into doing blood tests that showed nothing and was blown away at how much it all cost me. CRAZY expensive.Anyway, I figure - OK - my fault for letting them talk me into the blood tests. So today I wake up and my cat is really not well. I call and am told that there is no appointment and I dont know what to tell you. No support, no caring, just blank bland, I dont care attitude. So thats it. Time to find a vet that doesnt gauge you and does care.
Dr. Kiani and her staff are outstanding. Dr, Kiani is compassionate and clearly puts the comfort and care of your pet first performing a thorough exam and so focused on finding the route of every health issue, explaining matters in understandable terms. Harlem Animal Hospital is reasonably priced, always spotless with all state of the art equipment all offered over the most extensive hours, which is very hard to come by. Dr. Kiani has cared for my pets and those of my family members and friends with difficult cases on so many occasions all with the best care. I couldnt be more pleased. She, her team and the Harlem Animal Hospital are a treasure and a blessing to the pets of NYC.
Although their heart is in the right place, this hospital is too small for the large audience they support. 1) The reception area is too small and when you have more than 3 pet owners everyone now has to pick a corner or else where to stand, I would encourage investing in larger commercial space in the area and providing more chairs or a coffee table for people to sit on. 2) Voicemail, dont bother. I asked others clients while waiting and most of agree they never ever get a call back even in an emergency. Please remove voicemail if no ever checks them. 3) Expect to wait more than 30 minutes to be see someone and you may have to remind the front desk youre still waiting. 4) You leave a message with the receptionist to have the doctor contact for an update who may not get back to you until 1 or more days later and by that time the situation with your pet becomes dire.Again, for them to continue they need a larger space and hire additional staff.
So, I came to this location because of these stellar reviews. But the reviews are NOT the experience I had at ALL. My dog developed a lump on her face so I made an appt and brought her in. The staff was friendly enough and they took me at my appt time. When Dr. Colon came in to examine my pup, she was stumped. She said she had never seen a growth on a dogs cheek before and ruled out a tooth abscess. I would have thought without an X ray that as a precaution, she should have been put on antibiotics in case it WAS an abscess. But she said the best she could do was sedate her and do an aspiration (a 5 hour in house ordeal) or wait and see. I opted to wait and see as my dog is a senior dog and sedation felt unnecessary for a 30 second aspiration. A week went by and then overnight the lump doubled in size so I called the vet and the tech on the phone said the DR. would call me back at the end of the day. The tech called back instead and said the Dr. recommended the sedated aspiration and we would have to drop my dog off at 9a the next day and then pick her up after 5 hours. (for a 30 second procedure) I had more questions that the tech couldnt answer and the DR never did call ME, so I figured I would show up at 9a the next day for the appt for the aspiration and ask the DR. my questions then. Oh, and the estimate was over $700 for an aspiration. The next morning I had questions and suggestions for the DR so I arrived 10 mins before my appt at 8:50am. I wasnt seen until 9:40. When Dr. Colon came in the room, she seemed annoyed that I had questions about the procedure. Then I asked about alternatives to the procedure such as why dont we try antibiotics first in case it IS an abscess, or how about trying the aspirate while my dog was awake & she replied rudely you seem to know what you want so Ill do whatever you want but not the aspiration while the dog is awake, I have no experience doing that. Ummm, this lady is like 60. NO experience with that? Then she said I needed to sign a release saying if she messed it up I couldnt sue her. Then she said I needed to make up my mind about what to do, that she had other patients and said I was LATE and basically wasting her time! I said, I was here 10 mins BEFORE my appt, YOU were late, YOU made me wait 40 mins! Because the receptionist said they were waiting for HER to arrive which is why I was waiting until 9:40! So I asked her one last time what she thought we should do and she rudely says, “it doesn’t matter what I think apparently!” And I thought WTH! I am supposed to feel COMFORTABLE leaving my pup here for 5 hours and I cant even have a comforting chat with the doctor, then the tech I spoke to the night before heard us talking and chimed in I answered all your questions last night, I dont know why you have MORE, plus you hung up on me lady! I said, what? I did NOT Hang up on you! I have NO idea what you are talking about! And I DID have more questions, just not for a tech that didnt know anything, but for the DR. Honestly, I could have 100 questions about a $700 procedure and ALL my questions should be happily and nicely ANSWERED. My dog is like my child! There was ZERO bedside manner or customer service and for the tech to chime in and accuse me of something I didnt do was RUDE, and then the DR rushing me out, asks me, are we doing this or not? I said ABSOLUTELY NOT, and I left! NO WAY was I going to leave my pup with these rude people. Sure enough within 2 hours I took her to another office on the west side who did proper blood work, gave her antibiotics, and a FULL exam by an amazing vet of only 33 yrs old, who answered ALL my questions, AND heres the kicker, DID THE ASPIRATION of her lump WITHOUT sedation and WITH NO PROBLEM! Took a whole 30 seconds and it went great! AND, all of that for HALF the price, DOUBLE the customer service, TRIPLE the bedside manner, and quadruple the competence, friendliness, and cleanliness. I would NOT recommend Harlem Animal Hospital. Not Dr. Colon.
Dr.Kiani and all staff are very dedicated, loving, supporting and caring! My two cats Kysia and Kysiukas in very good hands. Specially Kysia; she is a cat with strong and wild character and doesnt like other strangers animals around. But Doctor Kiani does some magic, probably she could find her way even with a wild Lion! :) I could not believe, that Kysia was a friendly and well behaved cat before and after surgery. A hospital so clean and tidy, I guess, she even couldt smell any of other patients. Special thanks for making me and my pets comfortable and happy. I wish, I could find a family doctor to myself just like Dr.Kiani! By the way, I live in Riverdale, but my local Veterinary clinic was too expensive and not even very welcomed. I paid over there for 3 hour check up almost the same price Dr. Kiani clinic charged me for the surgery. I really wish them all the best and long lasting abundance and prosperity! Many many thanks!
This place is amazing the Drs are well rounded and very compassionate Ive taken all my animals here. I recently had an issue with my cat and since they didnt have the ultrasound at this location I had to go elsewhere but Dr. Sanabria called me a few hours later and made sure my cat was doing well and that if I needed him to be treated for anything I can bring him back she is genuinely an amazing person. I couldnt thank her enough!! From Lucas 😺and Emely
My visit to Harlem Animal Hospital was the best experience I had in a while. The facility was modern, clean, comfortable and esthetically beautiful. The staff was very professional, knowledgeable, friendly and really cared and loved animals. The veterinarian and owner, Dr. Giovanna Kiani, was very knowledgable, friendly and practiced very efficient medicine without trying to push unnecessary products and procedures. My pooch, Buster, is usually timid when we visit the veterinarian but Dr. Kianis pet loving and caring demeanor was sensed by Buster and he was his normal happy self during the entire visit. His experience at Harlem Animal Hospital was so great because every time we walk by the hospital, Buster always tugs towards the hospital in order to pay a visit and have his dog biscuit!!!I am so happy that Buster and I found a caring, knowledgable veterinarian that we both can trust.
The vet is very good and got experience at the aspca hospital but is ridiculously expensive ( even charges you if your pet pees on the table)...she does not care if you are unemployed, recent cancer survivor and desperately love your pet and want to treat him. Shes very business savvy and im sure owes tons for vet school but please have a heart. I had to beg, cry and she gave me a paltry 10 percent discount. My vet upstate is half the price. Shes only for the harlem yuppies and wealthy. Btw the aspca hosp is not discounted nor associated w the aspca. Its Bergh hospital. When i leave this world im setting up a foundation for women with breast and ovarian cancer survivors who can not afford treatment .for their beloved pets
So far, a great visit. A long wait but its a Sunday and Easter and Ive got nothing else to do. Came in with an emergency (outcome of a scuffle in the park) and theyre being very helpful and supportive. Our pet has never been scared to come back or pass by on the street. Ive since moved away but we miss this office.
My 4.5 month old puppy was very sick, vomiting, diarrhea and refusing to eat. I called HAH as it was nearby and still open on a Sunday. They scheduled us to come in right away! Dr. Kiani was very busy seeing multiple patients, but when she saw us, she was very informative and thorough. Our pup ended up staying overnight and Dr. Kiani chose the more conservative treatment plan. It all worked out and we are very pleased with Dr. Kiani. I am giving 4 stars instead of 5 b/c it was a very long wait to get xrays and a final verdict (we were there for 2.5 hrs). Also, I called twice the next day for an update and it would have been nice to have someone on the staff call me back. It seems that in an effort to help every animal, the staff is too overworked. All in all, we will be going here from now on.
I purchased this visit in groupon for examination and 1 vaccine (rabies) trying to save money I got the bad experience : I though I would lose my dog life ! My dog 10 years old, this doctor was too aggressive to sale new vaccine. I start to have some concern for the health of my dog, I dont want to give vac that he might not need, so I call ASPCA to confirm when was the last time they vac my dog, after knowing my dog have 5 years with no vac, I agreed to this new doctor proceed with rabies vac and the other new vac. 15 minute later in the desk about to pay for the other vac, was already injected to my dog. my dog pass out, we run back to the inside. This doctor start injecting things. So sad ! This doctor didnt told me this new vac cause this reaction, didnt asked me if my dog is allergic of vac, didnt prevent me my dog could be allergic to this new vac, my dog was vomiting all afternoon even when we arrived home 1 hour later my dog have diarrhea . So disappointed.
This place is trash. I had an emergency and headed there since they advertise that they open at 8am. Got there at 830, there where no doctors. At around 9 a technician came to tell me that the gurgling sounds coming from his chest area where hunger pains. The doctor strolled in at about 940. After a 2 minute assessment I was slapped with a $785 bill, just to make an assesment. Since I was unable to pay it I called aspca. Without any treatment, I was then made to pay $240 for pain meds and a catheter. Unprofessional with bad bedside manner. DO NOT TAKE YOUR LOVED ONES HERE!!!
Dr. Kiani is a shady and dishonest person who alters and manipulates medical records to cover up for her own inadequacies and Incompetence. DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET TO HER. Also the person dr. Kiani has answering the phones when pet owners call in, named Flavia is very unprofessional, nasty, and downrite rude and classless.
Just call in and you will understand right away what other users are saying about this place. They are unprofessional and come up with any excuses to cover up their lack of skills / professionalism. They dont call back, they email back 3 days later, and when you confront them with their inability to do such a simple thing as to find an appropriate appointment they just say (after 3days) that their booking system is broken ...These pity excuses are a red flag for me.
All they care about is money. 😩 Whatever happened to really caring for an animal no matter how much the cost you will lose out? Smh they dont even honor discrepancies of something so minor. Also, I get why phoen receptionists are so shady over the phone. It s because you wouldnt want to see them in the light. #shade
They are nice and kind I love this place but it is really expensive can’t lie but my dog was sick they said she had cancer and diabetes automatically that broke my heart they tried to help her but she was too weak so they said if they can put her to sleep so my parents decided it was best for her instead of going through all the pain so they put her to sleep and I appreciate that they tried to help her
Doctor Colon and her staff truly understand that our companions are not just pets but family. The wait time was fair and the fees were reasonable as well. I will be using this facility as Hewie primary care for as long as I have companions in my care, or me in there’s. Hewie is a three year old Shiba Inu who can be difficult to deal with and has sensitive areas he doesn’t like touched. The staff knew how to handle him and he trusted them with his safety. Truly remarkable teamwork!
From the first moment I came to this practice, I was amazed by the passion and dedication of the doctors and the thoroughness of their exams. The doctors will explain what they’re doing as they’re doing it and even let you look into your pet’s ear through the ear viewing tool which is something I had never experienced with other vets! It really helps you, as the pet parent, feel in the loop with what’s going on during the exam. Putting your fur babies on medication can be scary but I felt confident doing so with my pets because I know the doctors did all the appropriate testing to ensure their safety. I know the wait can be long but I think that’s going to be an issue at any vet clinic (I would regularly wait 1.5 - 2.5 hours with my previous vet so this wait is nothing in comparison). The reviews here are kinda mixed but I can assure you that the vets at Harlem Animal Hospital will care for your pet more than anywhere else and, at the end of the day, isn’t that the only thing that matters?
Absolute WORST experience EVER!!! To begin with it’s not clean in there at all! I picked my dog up after boarding and he had pee all over him. They don’t clean in between appts. And during COVID times, not okay. But they’re so close to my house unfortunately I decided to keep going. The main doctor is so beyond unprofessional telling me I’m aggressive I’m rude and then ask me tells me she’s getting me confused with someone else. As a black girl woman to cut me off and yell at me saying these nasty things to the point I’m crying at work. Completely unacceptable, don’t spend your money here with them. There’s better vets in Harlem!!!!

2021-11-10Ive always had wonderful experiences with my cats at this practice. The staff at Harlem Animal Hospital are very personable and truly care for each and every animal that comes in the door. The doctors are warm, attentive, and do their best to give you and your pets a good experience. The technicians are organized and kind. The receptionists are also very helpful on the phone when trying to schedule my appointments. Ive experienced wait times, but for the care provided, I dont mind. The prices are reasonable, the care impeccable, and overall a great place to bring your pets.

2022-05-19Mr. Lucky loves his new vet. They called us in after they got a cancellation opening. We arrived on time for our appointment and brought all records that were needed. There was only one more person in the waiting area, and we were greeted by the vets technicians after 15min of wait. I was allowed to accompany Mr. Lucky to his room and also to the Dr. Kiani’s computer to see the specimens of bacteria in his ears. I highly recommend her as one of the best vets in the uptown area.

2022-04-26This is an amazing place. I think they understand the incongruous truth that pets are family members, ones who deserve all the love and care possible. I have a dog and a cat, and both have been receiving care from Harlem Animal Hospital since they day we moved into the neighborhood. Though having a pet can be heart-breaking, the vets here do everything in their power to help every animal who passes through the door.

2022-09-12I really wanted to support this clinic in our neighborhood, but unfortunately - after 2 years - I need to move to a new vet for my dog. It is impossible to get a hold of staff when calling.

2021-11-10We have been taking our pup, Chico, to Dr. Kiani since we rescued him from the Brooklyn streets the better part of 10yrs ago. Dr. Kiani and her staff have always been helpful and kind. She and her Veterinarian colleagues have helped us navigate several medical issues over the years and Chico has benefitted from their care. I would highly recommend Harlem Animal Hospital to anyone with pets.

2021-10-19I waited a full hour for my appointment. This was not a last minute thing either; I scheduled over a month in advance. My cat is very nervous and doesnt do well with new situations and he was terrified for an hour. I missed an extra hour of work. The front desk people were very nice but that doesnt really help me when I waited a full hour for the vet to decide to show up to work.

2021-11-08Never again. Not only did I have to wait 2 months for an appointment, but I was waiting over an hour in the waiting room before anyone would see my dog. Unacceptable! I understand this is a small facility and there might only be one doctor or whatever. But don’t schedule me for 3p when you can’t see me until 4:30p. Definitely looking for another vet after this experience.

2021-11-11Our dog has been going to Harlem Animal Hospital for 5 years since he was a puppy. Dr. Kianni is a great vet, always taking the time to explain treatments and provide a longer term outlook for our pets issues. Her staff has grown over the years and have always been pleasant to deal with. Harlem Animal Hospital is a gem for Harlem, providing not only normal vet services but also surgical services including teeth scaling that other vets dont. I would recommend bringing your pet to Harlem Animal Hospital.

2021-11-16I love Harlem Animal Hospital. In addition to years of regular care, vaccinations, etc., Ive gone through two veterinary emergencies with them, and both Dr. Kiani and Dr. Colón are incredibly knowledgeable, insightful, thoughtful, and sympathetic. I am continually impressed with both the depth of their expertise and their deep compassion. Marion and Ashley at the front desk have been continually kind, friendly, and helpful, and the team of techs are fantastic. When they say theyll call you back, they always do...I should add that this is a VERY BUSY practice. They do their best to help you when you dont have an appointment, but they tend to be booked solid for weeks out...as a customer, the quality of service you get is greatly improved by being on time to your appointments, calling ahead of time with any questions, and being understanding when there simply arent enough hours in the day...

2021-12-22I very rarely write reviews, but I have mixed feelings about Harlem Animal Hospital. As a small business owner of a grooming business, I strive to give outstanding and quality service. I was very grateful that Marion (receptionist) was able to squeeze my poodle mix I adopted not long ago in for an appointment. He has been suffering with some GI issues, it was causing him some on and off vomiting and diarrhea. We arrived at the Vet for a 6:30pm appointment, had a long wait time. I was fine with that because I was just grateful we were going to be seen. Blood was taken and test were ran. I was told by Dr. Colon Possible inflammation of the bowl. The only way to be sure was to perform a sonogram.Second visit, 10am appointment to drop Pax off for his sonogram. We arrived on time, still a wait not as long as the first visit. At 5:28pm I received a call from Dr. Colon. She informed me my dogs small intestineswere inflamed. She recommended More Testing. This would include a urinalysis and More blood work. I want everybody reading this review to understand I love all of my dogs as much as I love my daughter. I would do anything in my reach to make sure they are cared for. I gave Dr. Colon the go ahead for the uranalysis. I did not want to run blood work again when I just did it. we both agreed it might be worth a shot to change his food and see if this would help him. So the final plan was Dr. Colon was gonna perform the urinalysis and she was going to give him some sample food. We would run blood work at a later date. I go to pick up my dog, pay a bill of 746.46 dollars and this is were they loose me. A Tech comes out ask me if I spoke with the Vet, basically going over the same things that Dr. Colon and I went over on the phone. She was very nice. She brings Pax out and while Im putting on his coat Dr. Colon comes out and said Im sorry, I did not charge you for the food. This could be me in my feelings. CHARGE ME! I HAVE BEEN CHARGED A TOTAL OF 1,055.96 DOLLARS IN 2 VISIT. MY DOGS ISSUE HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED! NOW YOUR CHARGING ME 20.00 SOME ODD DOLLARS FOR SAMPLE FOOD. REALLY! IT DIDT SIT WITH ME WELL. Thats just me! I cant say the service is horrible, but it is costly!
