The food was great and would be a 5 star but I thought it was a little pricey. We spent almost $70 for a bottled water, bottled ice tea, pt. lobster bisque (perfect flavor and consistency), pt. clam chowder (so fresh and yummy), 1 crab cake (great crisp and flavor), and the sea bass platter (fish tasted great). The platter had 1 ear of corn, 5 red potatoes and a roll with butter. I will 100% be back for the lobster bisque and crab cake. Very casual atmosphere that Id feel comfortable bringing a full family. I recommend.
I saw this place on a website as part of Buffalos fish fry trail, which surprised me because I lived and went to school close to this place. I passed by it many times over the years and yet, I never went in. Last week, I went in for the first time. It was Friday, and I was in the mood for fish fry, so I came here after work with my dad and his girlfriend. Two things came to my attention when I walked in: the line of people, and the menu. I had to wait 10 to 15 minutes before I could place an order and I had to wait a half hour before the food was done. As for the menu, in my opinion, it was a seafood lovers dream. You could order your meal fried, broiled, blackened etc. I was torn between my original plan to order the fried haddock and the blackened salmon, but in the end, I ordered the fried haddock dinner. The wait was worth it, because the fish was crispy yet light, the French fries were cooked to perfection, and the tartar sauce was heavenly. I totally recommend this place for all seafood lovers, fish fry lovers and anyone who loves Buffalo.
Overall a good take out meal. I had ordered some fresh fish to take home. I spent 25 years in Seattle...we know from fresh. Haddock was awesome, trout had been in ice so the eyes looked good. I purchased a generous pound of crappies. I asked them to hold all in the cooler til I left. I took the crappies out today, and dang it; Pike. Ill give it a go, but not happy about it. SQUISHY and breaking down.
I called ahead and ordered takeout on a Friday evening. I decided to get the Seafood platter which consists of fried haddock fish, scallops, shrimp, along with fries coleslaw and a dinner roll. I also ordered a side of onion rings. The food was really good and was not greasy. When I picked up my order it was piping hot! Tip: Crack open the togo container so your fried food doesnt sweat and get soggy. The only thing I didnt like is that there was no ketchup for the fries and they only give you one tarter sauce for the huge piece of fish. Otherwise food was spot on deliciousThe employees are professional. The restaurant/market is clean and fresh. The function of of the restaurant, as well as the market is seamless and well put together. They are a bit expensive though, but the quality cant be beat.
If you order online or by phone the wait is much longer than going there to order in person, then wait in the car to the marker vibrates and rings to call you. I has the oysters a second time and would have like them cooked a little more as compared to what I got the first time, still good but ... 4 stars cause relatively not cheap for not hitting it perfectly.
This place is eat-in or take out (raw or cooked). We ordered 6 lobster dinners and a scallops dinner which were terrific. The meals were ready on-time, the lobsters were fresh and cooked perfectly, the sides were good too. It may seem like a long way to go for fresh seafood but it is well worth the trip.
My grandma and I went for lunch here today; weve been to Hayes several times and always have a good experience. There are lots of options to choose from, along with some yummy-sounding specials. It can be a little pricey depending on what you get, but the seafood is always top notch and our order comes out fairly quickly. We usually go around 11:30, before they get really busy. The restaurant is always clean and the staff are always pleasant.
My father and I went to eat there this weekend, and boy it was good! We went crazy with the shellfish: oysters on the half shell, raw clams, steamed mussels, snow crab legs, and clam chowder. Everything was really fresh and tasty. Good, casual atmosphere. This is a must for anyone who loves good seafood and who happens to be in the greater Buffalo area.
Everything is always good. Except for the lobster roll. It was smaller than every place I have been and it has a lot of big pieces of celery. It is supposed to have very little celery and cut very small. Just for a hint of flavor. Also the lobster was not very tender. I think I Was frozen at one point. It was disappointing.
The lady was very rude. I wanted to add 3 extra calamari about a minute after I ordered my food, and the lady cooking said pain in the ass out loud, referring to me adding the 3 extra calamari. Terrible service, I paid her money for her (awful) services and in return she says Im a pain in the ass. Id recommend the Hills Corner Store just down the road. Theyre super friendly and the food is absolutely amazing.
Horrible fish sole....it wasnt even cooked...it was soft and greasy...I wouldnt even give it a star but I had to just to give it a review....the place is out dated...the worst $120 dollars I spent...the whole family threw away our fish dinner plates....you better off going to red lobster and get a real fish that is cooked all the way....we done told everyone in Clarence that this place should not be in Clarence no more time for better quality food in our community
The seafood here is the best! They serve whats in season and you can buy what they have fresh to go. Its the only place I get my salmon from. When I eat here I usually get crab, but we have tried other things when they have them like mahi mahi, the fish fry, and the clams. My parents also swear the oysters are the best, but I havent tried them yet myself.
Terrible experience and food!!!!!!! We decided to try it for my birthday and I wish we hadnt!!!!! This place is setup like a cafeteria. No one waits on you. you do everything yourself. Of course they take your money first. Then the agony or should I say pain begins. You take your beverages and a buzzer, go to your table and wait for the buzzer to go off. No one checks on you . When your buzzer lights up red you go and pick up your food, which is served on paper plates and a tray. REALLY???? If you need any condiments you have to get up and retrieve them from a cart or from another table. The food was very bland. 😥. Save your money!!!! Believe it or not, Red Lobster is much better for food and service!!!!For a party of two, the bill was $65.00. That included one beer and no dessert. What a rip-off!!!!!!
The haddock dinner was bland with no taste. The blackened catfish was fantastic.. I asked the manager why website prices were considerably less than actual menu prices.. I was advised that the website menu wasnt theirs and was from a restaurant of the same name !! Then why was it on their website ?? Probably wont be going back...
Very disappointed....used to like this place, but received poor customer service tonight. Trying hard to support our local restaurants in this currently challenging situation - called to place dinner order for tonight and was told all their phone orders were done ~ wed have to come into the restaurant in person to place an order if we wanted (this was at 5:00). Receptionist was very rude ~ wont be back, sadly
Not your average Seafood restaurant. Hayes is a fish market first that also cooks/fries its seafood for either sit down or takeout. If you choose to sit down, you need to order off the chalkboard first, find a table and get buzzed when your order is up for pickup.Food is good, service is minimal - except when buying the fresh seafood then its very good!
It was my wife and I first time out there I thought your food was very good and I thought also youre better than Red Lobster will be back again shortly thank you.I went back for the second time and I had the seafood platter which was out of this world fantastic going to make this my regular plates from now on thank you for being so fresh seafood

Nice and clean but pricey. Also upon entering, was never addressed by staff on how the place operates!..ie, approach available cashier at counter, order and pay for your food, then pick a table, take a seat and food will be delivered!!...would have been nice for a first time patron!!
I didn’t buy it but it was brought to me and I always thought that place sound good however not happy with the fish fry I’ve definitely had better at other places it’s not Christian it looks just like a light go I don’t even know if they fry it so I honestly wouldn’t pay for one with my own money other than that it was decent enough

2022-06-17I was pleasantly surprised! Seemed very casual upon entry (you order at the counter, food is brought to you) but the food spoke volumes! Wide selection of seafood, tasty complimentary sides, good drink pairings. I was a little overwhelmed and wasnt sure what I wanted so I asked for recommendations. Employee helped me narrow it to the Icelandic Wolfish, which was a fabulous choice! Cooked and seasoned amazingly well, the natural buttery taste was like none-other! The catfish was also very good! I look forward to visiting again!

2022-06-24Great fish, scallops, and shrimp. We went when it was quiet and had a great meal. Sides were plentiful and quality was good. Fair price for the amount of food we got. For in land seafood we were impressed!

2019-07-13I have been eating at hayes for years. I have never had a bad meal there. Fish is the freshest in buffalo, you walk in and there is no fish smell even though their market is steps away from where you enter. Some of the specialty fish is a little expensive, but you need to remember this is high quality fresh fish. They also have breaded and broiled haddock fish fries for a fantastic price. Fries also great. Looking to crab, clams, mussels, tuna, chicken fingers, soups, steaks, or salads? Yep they have all that too. Just look to buy some fish at the fish market and cook it your self? They have a wide selection and they tell you where every shipment comes from. I dont know anywhere else in buffalo that can do that. You dont know good fish until have ate at Hayes, its worth the drive from anywhere in buffalo.

2022-03-25The best fish in Buffalo. Nothing else to say. Maybe you can look for different atmospheres or drinks but if you want the best fish you come here.
