Heckscher Park in other cities:
Scenic town park complete with walking trails around the pond, playgrounds, plenty of benches and a baseball field. There’s also a really nice 911 memorial close to the Main Street entrance. There’s a small parking lot and ample street parking. Beware of the aggressive geese and their poop everywhere though.
I work from home and need to get in some exercise now and then. This is my go to spot to walk around and get some steps in. The spring flower boom decorations are always nice with the diverse collection of tulips set to make way for some beautiful day lilies. I especially like the kid playground as well for days you need to get your kids out and about to run out that excess energy...though for us it often proves futile. These kids have bountiful energy..
Beautiful park to walk, push a stroller, watch the kiddies playing on an adventurous playground or pavillion covered sandbox. Plenty of benches around the lake to just sit and enjoy the beauty; Relax and observe the ducks, fish and turtles! Picnic tables are available, too. Gorgeous flowers blooming in the spring. The Heckscher Art Museum is on the property, too.
Love this park! Peaceful walking around the lake. Good for a morning run but sometimes you need to watch out for geese poop. Nice and safe for kids to play on the playground with gate locks easy to use. Baseball field and Tennis Court. The downside is that theres no Basketball court. During the Summer and Fall, Fairs and Shows are held. Overall its a great park.
Great place to walk off your great meal from any of the wonderful local restaurants. All the water features are beautiful. The water fowl and coy are a joy to watch. You can also find turtles sun bathing on occasion. The paths make for easy stroller walking, jogging and benches are nicely placed for relaxation and observation. It is often said that the best things in life are free. This park does not fall short. Great for a morning stroll, an afternoon pick me up or an evening conversation. The plants and fountains are great Photo props.I like the childrens playground. The gates require height to open, making it safe for toddlers not to open. There is room to run for all the children of all ages and gym equipment to play on and climb. There is a sand pit and swings of course. This is a fun place for the family and friends. There are loads of free events in the park for all to enjoy. The tulip festival in early May was a hit. Tried my first fried Oreo there and it was a delight. Our son painted and we learned about other local businesses with activities for our little one. I am grateful for this nice retreat right near the heart of Huntington Village.
Its always a great place to visit with the family. Theres free shows, theres a museum, a large fun park for the kids to play in, large field to play sports and run and walking around the large pond checking out the wildlife is always great. Make sure to bring ice cream money, the truck literally lives there, lol. Oh and its quite romantic to stroll around during the evening for lovers.
We went today 9-23-18 for a small free event, face painting, live music, kids had a blast. Beautiful area to walk around, streams, nice size pond with fountains, lots of ducks. Large willow treess, Heckscher Museum of art, hugh playground very clean and maintained and nice bathrooms. Worth going to for peace and relaxing or keeping the kids busy for a hour or 2 no problem A+
Very nice park with plenty of free parking..We where there for the art festival. Walk around the lake to find about 30 turtles sunning themselves on the little island about 10 offshore. The geese are fully acclimated to people. One was sitting on three eggs. Other than the many geese land mines, a very relaxing and inviting park.
This is such a fun place to take kids. Fenced play area with gate. Ducks on the pond. Older couples strolling and younger families playing. Large feild for kites or sports. Separate areas for toddlers and swings. Baby swings and handicap swing too. Lots of benches and a shaded pavilion and heated bathrooms.
An amazing park to go to. Beautiful pond to walk around and plenty of open space as well. The park is nice especially if you have kids. Its well maintained and its always great to see the ducks, geese and turtles in the pond. Well worth the trip if you want some peace and quiet for a change.
Quaint park. The water features are lovely .Its a good place for a date.Lots of dog walking here so would not recommend if you dont like dogs.Large fields for sports and a nice little playground for the small humans.Bathrooms are large and maintained.Beware the geese and swans can get aggressive at certain times of the year, and are very loud. Watch your step during spring and fall or youll get a shoe full of natures fertilizer.
Pretty. Quite. Calming. Good for all aged. They have a museum which is open to walk in and its free of cost. Donations are welcomed. It has some good collections from random times. Pets are allowed. Parkings are easy to find outside as well as inside in the parking lots. Has lots of food shop in nearby too.
Very beautiful park with lots of room, but two things I didn’t like that there is was no information about dogs allowed or not.. It took for me the time to come and read the sign instead of just already see this information online.. But I’m fixing it and attaching the picture for everyone to see it.. The other thing that the pond are great with lots of turtles and fish but the shore has some garbage that needs to be cleaned. Hope that this information helps.
Great park with a large playground, swings and play area for young kids plus a gorgeous fish pond with large trees and benches dotted around it and a full walkway. The pond is fully stocked with turtles, some HUGE fish (see my image) and geese and ducks. You can buy feed to feed them and watch them swarm around the waters where you stand (even the fish and turtles will come to try to get some food). Right on the same grounds is the Heckscher Art Museum featuring some of August Heckschers own personal collection of priceless art plus a rotation of exhibits throughout the year. The park is beautiful and just outside of the Huntington main strip where you can find great restaurants, shops and of some great ice cream. All in all a great way to spend a day with friends and family.
Excellent park for kids. Very big playground with plenty of options for young and older kids. Regularly held events, live music in summer, festivals. Photo is from the Fall Festival, where a fair comes to the park. There’s usually a truck selling ice cream. Very near town center for an after park meal. Pond with many ducks and geese. Safe and welcoming.
It’s been a great place to take my daughter now my granddaughters just love this park fun safe quaint environmentI also go there to take a nice walk and wind during the middle of a very busy hectic schedule I sneak off and take a half hour break also fall festival is held at Heckscher Park which is a family favorite I’ve often a vendor at fall festival doing my psychic readings
Lovely community park with a wonderful art museum at its center. The park has a lake and the ducks and turtles are a delight for children of all ages. There is also a playground and tennis court. I think they had bocci areas at one time..I happen to love the beautiful flowers in spring, summer, fall...and trees. The town, in the last few years, is doing a great job in making it a little gem.
Went to the street fair with the family. Had a nice time visiting the vendors and listening to the music at the Chapin Sound Stage . Its a nice park in the heart of Huntington , L.I. , with many events during the year . Local restaurants serve most any cuisine youd want , and theres plenty of stores to shop in mixed to satisfy most anyone. .
Took my family to the park after a great breakfast in Huntington Village. Heckscher park was clean, has a great playground for kids and was in a very pretty setting. Highly recommend this park!HOWEVER, the Terror Ducks terrorized my son, walking after him with their terrifying death duck waddle. Their flat bills, lined with razor sharp intent can psychologically harm small children. Careful that their adorably webbed feet dont claw your kids with their poison toes. (I heard about the toes from a guy who knows a guy.)
A small park in the middle of Huntington Village. There is a nice pond with fountains, and its a common place for the locals to relax during evenings. There is a well-maintained path loop around the park, and there are many parking lots available on the western edge of the park.
I loved this place I was a small little park. They have a baseball field and they have playgrounds for children. They also have little paths to walk around at near the lake. The lake has ducks as well. They also have little spots you can lay on to maybe have a picnic date. They also have a gazebo made out of stone it appears.
Hecksher Park in Huntington (not Hecksher State Park in E.Islip) is an oasis on the east end of Huntington, located on the corner of Prime Avenue and Route 25A. Central to the park is its beautiful pond, surrounded by a walkway and cozy seating areas. It has an amazing array of water fowl, turtles and fountains. The Hecksher Museum of Art is located on the Prime Avenue border of the park. It is a beautiful Beaux-Arts building, with its original 120 painting collection (now greatly expanded) donated to the town along with the building by Philanthropist August Hecksher in 1920. In the center of the park is the amazing Harry Chapin Rainbow Stage where many concerts, dance companies and theater groups perform. The stage fronts on a natural amphitheater. All you need is to bring chairs or a blanket. The stage is the home of the Huntington Arts Councils Summer Arts Festival, now in its 59th year! Check their website for the performance schedule. Ever Wednesday night in July I proudly perform with the Huntington Community Band at 8pm. The band just celebrated its 75th anniversary! It has a wonderful playground for the kiddies along with ball fields and tennis courts. Last January it changed its policy and now allows dogs. Its a wonderful place to take your pet for a walk (please pick up the poop). There is a beautiful, poignant memorial to the victims of 9/11 which you should see. A perfect place for a lovely afternoon before heading into town for happy hour at one of our many excellent restaurants.
Quiet, clean little park in the heart of Huntington. They recently installed some benches along the pond, which is a great improvement. Great playground for young kids, a local art museum, and in the summer an outdoor performance series makes this spot a true gem. Parking is limited nearby, so if you want to go to one of the concerts be sure to plan in advance to get early (and bring your own seating/blankets!). Several festivals happen throughout the year -- highly recommend the fall festival!
Nice park to walk around, always fun to watch the turtles and fish swim up to meet you at the waters edge. Older, bigger kids (or adults) sometimes on the playground equipment, so you have to carefully watch the real kids to make sure they dont get hurt, and at least get a turn on the equipment.
Awesome little neighborhood park. Its so tranquil there and I love enjoying the turtles and birds that call this place home. They do lots of shows theyre all summer long. I have yet to go to one because I keep forgetting.Wish I remember to go there more often. You can walk from the town and thats a extra benefit.
Pretty well kept up. They have some nice landscaping with a pond at the center and some arches here and there. There was a nice clean looking swing set and jungle guy type equipment for the kids. There are numerous signs proclaimong dont feed the water fowel. That to me is sad.The arches by the water are purposefully not accessible. I can only imagine someone claim this is for safety however it sort of a bummer. There are arches all over the world that can be climbed, they can find a way too.Bathrooms needed better air flow and more upkeep but were there for use so that is something. You can walk around the park 3 times and have your fill. According to the park office around the pond 3 times is about a mile, though I measured it shirt of a mile.
Diverse play areas with extensive space make this a good to great family park. Bathrooms are fairly clean and equipment is clean and well maintained. The park has a beautiful nature preserve in the park with a large lake and different species of bird life within. Certain times of year, the excessive Canadian Geese can prove problematic. The tulip festival is a great family event in the early spring and the music and dramatic arts at the outdoor theater is a nice touch. The art museum usually has some nice collections traveling through and for Huntington township residents, the prices are reasonable.
Beautiful park. Nice walking paths and ample seating. Playground, bocce court, and open fields for playing. Outdoor sculpture work to look at. Parking is fairly easy and free. Easily accessible from Huntington village. They have public restrooms in the park.During the warmer months, there are frequent performances on an outdoor stage. Its a great place to bring a picnic blanket and relax while getting some entertainment.Theres also a small art museum in the park, but there is an entrance fee for it.
Ive been going to this park since I was little and I will never get sick of it. Its a beautiful clean park (if you ignore all the goose poo), and the path around the lake makes for a great lap for running. Theyve upgraded the playground to be super-cool, though Ive outgrown the ability to use the playground without getting looked at weird.
My family and I love this park. It has so much to offer including tennis courts, various playground areas for different ages, nature paths, various ponds, gardens, a performance stage, sprawling green grass, ducks, swans, fish, and turtles. And its right next to a musuem. Its a great place for families and couples. And the best part is thats its totally free - even the parking
A little slice of nature and culture in town. Well maintained and nicely landscaped and lit. Heckscher park has a good mix of activities with tennis courts, walking path, playground, museum, and concert stage. Heckscher park does a great job of holding events for the public with several festivals throughout the year and a great summer concert series with lots of acts for all ages and music tastes to enjoy.
Went there for an art fair and picked up a great piece of glass art. The park on the whole is nice with a lake and benches. There are concerts, events and shows in season. A seasonal calendar is available. There is also a small art museum. There is a very well done 9/11 Memorial. It is within walking distance of the downtown area. One word of caution there are many many geese in residence which can make a walk a tip toe affair.
Its been very very nice lately. I think they put in those fountains in the water and that sort of took care of the goopy green stuff? Its a great place to go take a walk and hold your sweeties hand. They do like it when you hold their hand, and theres usually ice cream trucks, and you know they like it when you give them ice cream too. And remember boys, the ladies love men who bathe regularly. 😂✌️
Walkway around the lake, playground, tennis court, concert hall (Rainbow Theater), museum, baseball field, bocci box (bring your own balls), gazebo, and sculptures- all make this park a great place to have fun. Well maintained and not too huge, it is a go to place for the locals. A must visit place.
The good: Nice park with paths, park benches, picnic tables, ponds, fountains, bridges, etc.The bad: Roughly between 60 and 70 percent of the people either do not wear masks, wear them under their noses, or wear them as chin straps. And thats despite the numerous signs posted requiring masks. There needs to be enforcement of the mask rule.
Very nice, EXCEPT, if they let dogs in the park, on leashes, there wouldnt be goose droppings like EVERYWHERE!!!The tennis courts and the playground are great, and the Fall festival is a great asset to the area. This will be one of the things I truly miss when I escape Long Island.
Ive lived in Huntington for over 35 years. Hecksher Park is great but its constantly covered in goose poop, everywhere you step. The playground is great but sometimes over crowded. The pond is wonderful to walk around or explore with little ones because there are geese, swans, turtles and fish! The art museum is really cool. Overall its a great place to hang out... ball field, tennis courts. concerts and other free shows during the summer put on by the Huntington Arts Council. Every morning the walkways get washed (because of the goose poop) and the pants get watered. The only reasons I am giving it a 4 out of 5 is because of the goose poop and when it says popular hours, they mean it and it is over crowded... neither of which are the parks fault... just a reality.
This park is like the Yellowstone of Long Island NY! You will love the landscapes and yes there is something to take away from this whole natural experience! Gotta love the nature side of it all to appreciate a park of this size! Hope this park doesnt go anywhere soon cause its great to go to open places and spaces and youll be saying (HECK) why didnt i find that earlier!
I’m amazed to see how much this park has transformed over the past several years. I enjoyed it as a kid ( before the new renovations) and now I take my kid there when the weather permits. We live 20 mins away and walking distance from a park but she prefers this one hands down every time!
A no fee, beautifully landscaped Village park, not to be confused with the New York States Heckscher State Park. If you live in the area or just visiting Huntington Village you really should check this charming little park out thats opened year round. Its only a mile to a 1/2 mile from the Village. Loads of trees, lovely well maintained grassy areas throughout the park. A handful of picnic tables tastefully located at various points, enclosed modern playground for the kiddies, a museum Heckscher Museum of Art and an outdoor stage Chapin Rainbow Stage nestled within the park for free Seasonal concerts and performances, lighted tennis courts and a baseball field. Theres a paved lighted walkway that goes all the way around the lovely duck pond that is easily accessed by stroller or wheelchair. Some Handicapped parking.
Park is beaten up from the past winter. Grass is poorly kept with more weeds than grasses. Lots of beer cans in the pond. The turtles are taking over the pond . Nesting swans are getting aggressive with both people and snapping turtles . A turtle was climbing onto the swan nest and the non-nesting mate knocked him off. Place needs turtle control and gardening. Been coming here for 67 years and never saw it so run down. Maybe the the town will fill the pond in and build some apartments!

The scenic views with waterfalls, extremely well maintained walking path and pond with a variety of wildlife has a calming & relaxing effect on us. 2022-02-25We enjoyed it in todays beautiful weather. So lucky to have this park in our town. However, as expected was crowded due to school holiday breaks. Also, wondered how people can be so crass to throw garbage into the pond.

2021-10-05One of the best Long Island parks. Great for all ages. There is a wonderfully maintained pond to walk around. The pond is filled with geese, ducks, turtles and fish. You can walk your leashed dog. There is a playground for different ages. The park has different activities all year long.

2021-11-14Instagram: @andiamoadventureBreathtaking beautiful little park in Huntington! We picked up food to go from Stella Blue Bistro and then ate at some benches while we enjoyed views and relaxing sounds of the stream, pond, and waterfall. Such a romantic and lovely spot. We will surely be coming back again soon!

2022-04-30Beautiful park with lakes and playground. There is a lot to see and its worth walking around to see the different sculptures.and the museum. The lake is nicely.landscaped with fountains and there are.ducks, geese and even turtles. The playground is suitable for all ages. Some of the rides for younger kids good do with a little love though. There is even a free library box in the playground so donate your old books and exchange for some new reads.
