Had dinner here last night and our waitress Liz was amazing! She was attentive, friendly and efficient. I even watched her have to deal with one of those customers who clearly came in looking to complain. This woman was so rude to her and she handled the situation flawlessly. Her professionalism was something I felt should be recognized. Besides recommending Liz as a server, I also recommend the grouper with truffle risotto! Delicious!
I went for my birthday with a good friend of mine. I wanted to impress my friend Ive known since we were seven years old end she was thoroughly impressed with her meal I was thoroughly impressed with my meal the service was great and the live music was icing on top of everything. The only thing that could have been better was the weather so we could have seen the views
My wife and I took her mom and aunt out for their birthdays. Overall, the experience was just OK. I had the salmon, which was amazing, even my wife liked it. My wifes dinner was very good too. My mother in law and her sister on the other hand, not so much. Unfortunately, this time around, it was both hit AND miss. Hopefully next time, it will be better.
Delicious!! We had king crab legs and prime rib, wild rice, sweet potato fries, salad and I even ordered a half bottle of Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc.... Cinnamon apple creme brulee for dessert. And the view....simply breath taking. This is a must go, romantic night out, birthday celebration or just because...We happen to be celebrating our very first anniversary and at the end of the evening a couple came up to our table and told us how they had gotten engaged there and they were on their 53rd wedding anniversary date simply amazing...
I cant say enough about Hedges. Its family to me. I was a little girl when my mother took us there when it was on Joseph Ave. in the good old days. Food is the best, never had a bad meal. Just came home from there, yes a rainy too. The food, our waitress Jess, even the bus boy. Steamed clams to die for. Next week crab legs. Please try it, you wont be disappointed.
The location is gorgeous; the food adequate, but uninspired. Hubby got the prime rib and garlic potatoes, which were tasty. I had the chicken special. Very odd dish. Breaded chicken then smothered in a white wine sauce. Not my favorite. The peanut butter chocolate cake was good. Very pricey for what you get. Service was excellent.
Very nice place .Service very good but disappointed.in the food .Over priced ..The clams casino probably the worst I have ever had No solid piece of clam and a topping like mush .Thought it was mashed potatoes. The rice was Luke warm Asked for Balsamic vinegar and oil and they just put a bottle of each on the table .The 2 pieces of bread were very tasty .My crab cakes left alot to be desired .Didnt taste much Maryland crab as stated .The fish fry was the best thing we ordered .Was expecting so much more since we had come here many years ago and the food was very good then .Very 😞 disappointed
We had an excellent experience for lunch. The restaurant was fairly busy but we were seated immediately even without a reservation. 2 of us had the seafood salad that was loaded with fresh scallops, lobster and crab meat over mixed greens. The seafood was abundant. Our friends seafood pot pie also had an abundance of fresh lobster, scallops and crab meat and was described as delicious. Made them think of New England. The drinks were well made and tasty. The waitress and staff were excellent with a great ambiance on the lake. Perfect service. I cant wait to go back again.
Took my wife, daughters and 2 grandchildren to Hedges today for Mothers Day. Everyone had either steak or chicken french, except me. I had the turkey dinner...big mistake. Turkey was served in big slabs, and looked and tasted processed. Green beans were hard, stuffing was hard and the entire dinner was luke warm. Was actually gross. I thought turkey would be a safe bet, but was not. How do you screw up a turkey dinner....Hedges does! When waitress took my plate away she didnt even question why most of the dinner was still on the plate. Spent almost $400 for 4 adults and 2 children, and I would have been better off with a Swansons turkey TV dinner.
Had a wonderful experience at Hedges on September 6, 2018. Dawn was our waitress and let me tell you how great she was! She was so attentive to everything we needed before we needed it. Her attention to detail, personality were amazing. She gets a 5 star for sure, they are lucky to have her. As for the food, I started with the Charbroiled Oysters. Have you ever even had those before locally? I have only had them in New Orleans where they are a staple. Thad and the crew nailed these and they were delicious. I should have gotten a dozen and a half dozen werent enough. Salads came next, they were great, my wife had the wedge which was awesome and some French Onion soup which is always perfect there. Main course, Brittanys twin medallions. Holy cow was this awesome. Cooked perfectly medium to my liking and the lobster claws on top were super fresh and just delicious. This place has it down...oh and did you know they have the best view on the water than any other place around, BONUS!!! Thanks guys, we will sure to be back.
The location is lovely and the food is fantastic! We enjoyed a delicious dinner. I had savory beef medallions in a mushroom congac sauce and my husband enjoyed a Tuscan seafood pasta dish. The beef was very tender and perfectly cooked. The pasta dish was loaded with lobster, shrimp, crab, clams, and scallops. Neither one of us could finish the large portions. Desert was a delectable Pecan bread pudding with a vanilla bourbon caramel sauce that was to die for. While this place is a bit pricey, its worth the cost. We will definitely be going back on our next special occasion!
Lunch visit for our first time there. Loved the crab cakes (small portion but delicious) and mom could not stop raving about the seafood pot pie. Pleasantly surprised with how much lobster was in it vs the vegetables. Very friendly staff and lovely views. Will definitely be back.
Date visited :May 18, 2013, 5pm.Family dinner/birthday.I want to say the whole experience was wonderful. The service was polite, fast, and personable. The food was excellent in all categories and our special dessert was a great hit. A big sparkle for the big 50! :-). There is no beating the atmosphere in that area. We enjoyed the view and the heaters! For those who had abad experience: do a little research before you go anywhere; people have off days-dont ruin the trip as a whole, try showing extra kindness; my father told stories of his experience over 50 years ago; it was comfortable for all generations. Thank you for a great service to the community.
Food came out very quickly. the portions were large, but expensive. The Tuscan seafood pasta was very good, but inconsistent. I got 5 scallops but my mother got 1, my brother got 3 artichoke hearts and I didnt get any. Overall the experience was wonderful and I would recommend this place to a friend.
This is a very classy establishment. The food is amazing and the service is beyond exceptional. The owner is a local, born and raised in this town and its a second generation ownership. You can tell how much they care and appreciate their patrons and staff. Live music on the weekends with a large, full size bar. Come for a full dinner, dinner party, small intimate dinner or just grab a drink and watch the sun set over the lake. Due to its unique position on the lake you are able to watch the sunsets over the lake. Beautiful.
Love this place, old world costal vibe with tons of wood and fish decor. Feels like youre on a ship, Port holes help that. Amazing piano players. The staff is top notch, and rival most. Drinks are stiff and well made with the proper garnishment, great olives and 🍒. If you like prime rib its definitely recommended. Fish specials are always amazing and fresh. Clams casino, King crab, lobster, and the bisque are all amazing. BEST Sunset in Rochester 🌞 as well. Cant say enough good about this place
I took my husband here for his birthday dinner and I was telling him how this place was good big mistake it wasn’t the same Hedges I knew long time ago. Food was real bad the salad was bad it looked like they got it out of the garbage shrimp cocktail was warm lobster had this funny taste to it I didn’t eat all of it I took it home for my cats. The decorations where god awful I wasn’t sure if I was in a Chinese restaurant or a restaurant near water. Ramsey Gordon would shut this place down. We will never go back. It’s very pricey and not worth it. They need Ramsey Gordon this place will be out of business if it don’t change who cooks the food and care what they serve people.
I went to this restaurant this evening to bring back a recommendation for a great, new location for our annual company dinner that we have at Oak Hill CC. We are ready to experience a new venue but this ended up being the worst dining experience I have ever had.First, we asked the hostess to sit near the water and she said that no tables at the window were available but she would get us close, with a view and then she seated us 3 tables from the back.It took our server over 15 minutes to ask us if we wanted a drink. For dinner, the filet mignon came out way under cooked and our server never came to the table to ask us how our meal was, if we needed another drink or check on us at all. We asked for her and she never came so we had to ask another employee for assistance. The plate was taken back to remedy the situation yet they didnt recook the food properly and sent the plate back without two of the items it was sent back with. Not an apology from anyone, not a credit for the meal or our server to check in with us yet. The person with me had to wait over 10 minutes for lemon for their dinner, all while the food got cold.Over 40 minutes and again not a word from our server who continued to walk past us and ignore us. The food was expensive and nothing to write home about.Normally, I am not one to get involved with race conversations, but after this experience I cant help to feel that the poor service had to do with race. As I looked around the restaurant I noticed that there wasnt a single black customer or employee, besides me. This was very disheartening. If I didnt have to give this post 1 star to write the review, the restaurant would receive a 0.
Dining alone, I arrived to find the parking lot full due to the popularity of bringing Moms for Mothers Day. I was pleasantly surprised to be seated right away and told they have designated seating for those without reservations. Located on the shore of Lake Ontario this restaurant offers breathtaking sunset views over the Lake , and many patrons go to the waters edge for photos after dinner. I was slightly under dressed in nice jeans and a shirt and will wear slacks or a sundress on my next visit. The food was great, service was quick and super friendly, my water glass was kept full and I was offered a selection of hot tea from a beautiful cherry wood chest. They offer bar drinks and seats outside if you are only there for comradereie and a sunset. Definitely a MUST if youre in Webster!
Got there a little late, just in time to snap this shot of a great sunset. We were lucky to get a small table by the window. Always great service and food. 12 ounce lobster tail was a hit I had filet mignon. Great jazz trio Jim Nugent, at the bar had cocktails after at the piano bar. All in all a great evening!
So the reviews are mixed Annie here to tell you that the food is great! In terms of the setting it is dated, but I like the retro look, I think it gives it some character! Their seafood and the clam chowder is awesome. Shrimp cocktail and crab cocktail are great! Steak and lobster are reasonably priced... Service is always impeccable! View is great right on the lake! Bon a petit
Very disappointing........ We had finger foods to celebrate 5 people retiring, they gave us plates that you put under your coffee cup and no silverware. I wanted to be able to fit veggies, dip and a piece of pizza on my plate but couldnt. I also wanted sausage, peppers and onions but had no silverware to eat it with. I asked them to bring out bigger plates and silverware, which we never got. To bad a place with a great location is owned by ignorant people.
Great food actually excellent , but if you want to get a cheap meal its not there. We paid and we got more than we could eat and no complaint at all. Prime rib, filet mignon , and the Tuscon seafood platter (which was enough for two) service was like you were Royalty . Didnt have to ask for anything and table was continuously cleared. Well worth it
Excellent diner place right on the water of Lake Ontario. Hedges is a classic place where everyone in town goes to socialize and grab a drink at the bar or relaxes and listens to the piano player. The food is excellent and you will never have bad service. The dinners are quite expensive but you get a lot in return. Great spot for special occasions.
Very disapointing! I made a reservation for my Fathers 90th Birthday! ( he is a happy , healthy 90 is the new 70 kind of guy!) Asked to be upfront with a view was told we would for sure have this - NOpe! Food Rack of Lamb- ordred rare came well done. veggie was broccoli huge piece just slaped on the plate and over cooked. Fillet looked like a hamburgar with a fat onion ring on top like Dons orignal. Over priced and poor service From the hostess who had a table upfront to give us and refused because it was set for 6 not 5 . to the waitress who never even asked us how our food was. Dont blame her she knows it sucked! We also asked the hostess for a birthday candle / sparkler she never bothered to tell the server who came to the table and asked if we wanted something special for the birthday boy? 90 years old is a big deal! the place is better as a seasonl bar. I will never have a mal there ever again!
This is a fine dining establishment at its best. Everything here is just the best of the best of the best. The staff are also well trained and on point. The food is also on par with any 5 star place you could visit in NYC. If you are looking to get the special thing come early because they can and do run out as only a limited number of them are made for service on a given night. Gentlemen please dress up, women too. This is not the place to show up in shorts and a tee shirt nor is it a place to be trashy. This is a great place for date night and to make an impression on him/her or your business prospects.
Booked a private party at Hedges. We were given quotes for the menu choices and told that beverages were not included. That was fine. One of the menu choices was a burger. During the party, manager approaches and says some of the guests were requesting cheese, but they would need to charge extra for that. I said fine. She also said some of those people were asking for fries instead of chips (although I later found out they were asked if they would like them). I was told I would need to pay extra for those as well. During dessert, when the cake was being served, coffee pots were put out (coffee cups, creamer, and sugar were already on the table). Wait staff had disappeared so one of the guests started serving the coffee. Suddenly, wait staff reappeared and started frantically trying to write individual checks for our guests for their coffee! We hailed the manager and told her it was not only inappropriate, but embarrassing. When the check was delivered, she said the charge for the coffee had been removed. Upon looking at the check, however, I saw that they had charged us $30 for 5 side orders of fries ($6/person on an $11 entree!). Needless to say, we will not be booking any more parties there in the future!
I ordered the open Reuben sandwich and the wife ordered the Hedges special. The Reuben was enough food for 2 people and the special had a dipping dish of maple syrup. The bread was dipped in egg, so dipping in the syrup was like having French toast. Really unique and delish! The lunch was properly timed and jen was on her A game! Had their bisque and it was a tad salty but excellent! I might call Hedges an East side Red Osier!
Growing up in Rochester, many special occasions have been celebrated at Hedges. Later, as we began having children, Hedges became a special place for them as well. Where shall we go to celebrate your birthday this year, was met with, Hedges! Lucky for us, none of them were born in January, February or March, because with the seasonal closing just before Christmas, we wouldnt have such a great tradition. Id like to say that Im a food adventurer, and much of the time I am, but with the steamer clam special as an appetizer, a side Caesar (yes, add anchovies) and Shrimp Leo (off and on the rotating menu) I have landed myself in the most magnificent food rut of all time. You just cant beat that combination of perfect. My husband loves the Tuscan Seafood, loaded with scallops, clams, lobster, shrimp, crab and mussels (for him, hold the mussels) though nightly specials tempt him on rare occasions. Though there is rarely room for dessert, you must try Judiths Butterscotch Sundae. This butterscotch sauce is homemade and delicious, developed by family matriarch Judy Swift (now retired) and perfected over time by her middle son Thad, now the owner. Thad frequently circles the dining room visiting with guests, many of them loyal Hedges lovers of many years. As summer turns to autumn, and we begin to feel the Wreck of the Edmond Fitzgerald weather, we call ahead to see if one of the tables near the massive fireplace is available. Depending on our willingness to flex on time (we always are), it usually is an option. And when the ice begins to melt, we measure time by when does Hedges open? always anxious to get back to the lake, wondering what changes will have come... a new fixture, a missing menu item or a delightful new one, familiar wait staff (we are madly in love with Jacqui), new bus-persons to get to know, an amazing piece of art- drift wood sculptures usually roll in unannounced- or pretty blue lights as beacons as you reluctantly find your way out the door to a waiting car... ah, Hedges. We never know what will wait as we mark our return by weeks, then days, then hours. Hedges and the Swift Family... we love, love, LOVE you.
Went here on a date night with my boyfriend who recommended this place since he was from webster . The food was amazing and service was good as well. Its a great place for date night or just to have dinner and drinks with friends. We will be going back again for sure maybe in the summer time since it is on the water.

2021-10-17Had a birthday dinner here and the waiter was friendly and accommodating. The people was very nice, thats very important even if the food is good and I didnt feel welcome I would never return. Ally family loved the restaurant. The food was very delicious. Everyone order was correct for such a large party.

2022-03-28Good food, professional staff, wonderful view of the lake, all allowing for a great experience. The only thing that hurt our experience was a young guy with a backward baseball cap who thought he was visiting a hot dog stand. I thought that with the rather high prices, we would be dining with a somewhat more upscale group of patrons.

2022-03-26Exquisite service, food and drinks. We had a work function tonight and I had the prime rib which was delicious and I had the smoothest gin that I have ever had as well… our servers Morgan and Christine (mainly Morgan) where phenomenal they were on top of everything despite the event being packed. I definitely will return here again but next time it will be for a date night with the wife.

2022-04-20Since I am a local to the area, I decided to take my wife there for her birthday dinner. She chose the surf and turf filet with lobster and I chose the surf and turf filet with crab legs. I had one drink from the bar and my wife had a soda. To sum this all up. Both fillets were overcooked and dry. Absolutely not one drop of juice left in it. The lobster tail was overcooked and the crab legs were fair at best mashed potatoes came from a bag. Dinner was absolutely terrible. Hard to believe they have a chef in the kitchen when we received our bill for over $350 we could not believe that they were serving this food and charging this amount of money. No view is worth the food that they serve.

2019-08-22Really good service and beautiful property! The restaurant has a retro boat house feel. Really sets a mood and tons of seating indoors and outside. Outdoor dining isnt allowed, but you can enjoy your drinks out there. There was a really nice gazebo, that is perfect next to the water. Id like to try lunch next time! Dinner was delicious, but slighty expensive. You definitely pay for the experience and location! Cant wait to waste some time and money when we go back!!! 😎

2022-06-26Im a native of Webster. I should otherwise like this restaurant. But have only been here twice in ten years. Reason - overpriced and the service just doesnt feel relaxed.
