I loved the German potato salad it was delicious. My fiancé on the other hand didn’t like the vinegar. The hot Berlin was okay I think they could have made it better with more fresh ingredients instead of corned beef. Pricing was very reasonable but I’m running out of people who are willing to come here with me which is a shame because I really enjoy coming here. Overall a good experience for myself.
Service was great! The owner was willing to accommodate our beer request. Food was delicious although we were hoping portions would be a little bit more generous. Overall a terrific experience and we will definitely be back. PS. The upside down German Chocolate cake for dessert was divine!!
Never have eaten traditional German food before. I wasnt a big fan but it had nothing to do with food prep just my taste. They had an issue and had to close early but that granted me the opportunity to meet the owner who was a very nice man. Our waitress was great as well! If your into German cuisine check it out!
The food was really nice, its been several years since my wife and I ate there last. There are no other German Restaurants in our local area . I really like the German Beer, my wife wasnt feeling the greatest, she is two weeks into her recovery from a Hip Replacement, it was difficult for her to really enjoy herself. I would go back to eat there again.
Great little place to have some authentic German fare. I highly recommend the German Sampler and Bavarian Sampler if you want the opportunity to try a variety of meats. We went in not quite knowing what to expect but were blown away by a delicious meal! Stop in if you are in town - you will not be disappointed!!!
I had anticipated having my favorite meal from years ago here with some friends, bragging how good the food was. We were all sorely disappointed! The Heidelburger used to be big enough to share, now it barely satisfies one. The German potato salad used to be a heaping portion of the real deal with unskinned red potatoes. Now it seems to be canned potatoes with vinegar, not palatable at all! And the once signature cheesecake is no longer offered. Too many corners cut for sure!Joyce and Bill would be devastated to see what their once special restaurant has become! If I could give it NO stars, I would! Goodbye forever!
Food was good but the portion was ridiculously small. I cant speak for any other meal but my table of 4 all had a Bavaria and it was nearly a slider sized burger bun with a little pastrami and a handful of fries. We have been going to vacation in Lake George for years and have always come to Heidelbergs for a good meal but this was ridiculous, I should not have to contemplate 2nd dinner after eating. Again, delicious food and the service was also good but the portion wasnt just small, it was comical !!
Excellent . German food and excellent beer. Owner and staff very friendly with great recommendations. Small interior so we opted to eat in the Biergarten which was delightful. Saurebarten was like homemade and the Jager Schnitzel was also very good. Blueberry pie was freshly baked and in season. Highly recommend. Away from the tourist traps and a local gem.
After experiencing 4 different owners in the last 45 years I am not exactly impartial. My Sauerbraten was excellent and a great improvement over the previous year. The apple strudel , however, needs improvement. The Hefeweizen beer should have the label medicine as it will clear your kidneys. Highly recommended.
The sausage is really good! But the rest of our meals were just okay. The pretzel is not homemade which was a bummer. The spatzle was too broken up and was not enjoyable. The Heidelberg Burger wasnt good, the raw red onion overpowered everything. Would have given 4 stars for the sausage and adorable restaurant alone though. The staff are friendly. I would come again.
I am from Germany visiting the area and I must admit I was skeptical about the authenticity of a German restaurant in New York. I am pleased to say that the food was beyond my expectations! Great stein collection and great staff. The Sauerbraten was prepared perfect. Danke Heidelberg, I will be back...
Took a trip out to see the eastern side of NY. Wanted to get out and be in the nice weather. Took the family out into Glens Falls Queensbury area. Was getting around dinner time, kids were getting hungry. Decided to stop here thinking it be a nice meal. Nothing like it really around. Bad idea. Ordered the veal schnitzel. Talk about eating rubber. Almost like they deep fry them. All you can taste is oil. My daughter got chicken fingers. They were so overcooked I didnt even bother saying anything..I was so irritated. Our waitress Dena had such attitude with us, we couldnt wait to leave the embarrassing scenery. My wife got a hiedleberg club and there was so much Russian on it you could barely taste anything but the dressing. Not to mention the bathrooms...I wanted to throw up after smelling straight up sewer. I had to literally hold my shirt over my nose while I was in there. Disgusting!!!!!!.
My family always visited another German restaurant in the area for years. We happened to stumble upon this one and decided to give it a try last night...well I am sure glad we did. We had 8:00 reservations and were seated immediately by the owner who was very personable. Our server, Dee, came right over and took our drink orders. Our drinks were ice cold (beer, wine, lemonade and soda). We ordered the pretzel appetizer and our main meals. The bean and bacon soup was delicious. I ordered the sauerbraten and it was probably the best I have ever tasted. My husband had the wurst sampler and he was extremely satisfied. Kids had schnitzel (veal and chicken)with pan roasted spatzel. Another aspect that we really enjoyed was that some of the meals had the option of getting a smaller plate or a larger plate of the food. We ended with dessert.....homemade warm blueberry pie and cream puff. Delicious, delicious, delicious. We can’t wait to come back because this will definitely be a staple in our vacation plans. Thanks again to Dee for making a very memorable dinner!!!
Wow! Authentic German cuisine thats absolutely delicious. We had the sampler with Bockwurst Knockwurst and Bratwurst, tangy sauerkraut and warm German potato salad, everything tasted amazing. Potato pancakes with thick, tasty, and cooked nice and crispy. Warm pretzel rounded out the dinner and also had the Dunkel dark beer.Waitress was helpful, friendly and attentive. They are keeping everything clean, distanced, and safe for everyone.
Went for dinner Tuesday night and was pleasantly surprised. Dinner was really good and the desserts were amazing. Everything is made either on site or locally and it shows in the quality. We had a big group and tried every dessert they had. Every one of the desserts was wonderful. I recommend it.
As a German I must recommend: dont come here for food. The place is nice and the beers are German, but not the food. Not the best meat quality, poorly breaded (medallions are never breaded). Undercooked potato pancake, bad Spätzle and the gravy made of power from a cheap brand.Sorry guys, but simply not good.
Incredible German-themed restaurant! My wife and I have been exploring the capital region for somewhere to remind us of our trip to Germany, and this place brought us right back. The food, atmosphere, and staff were just what we wanted. We drove up from clifton park and would drive twice as far next time if we needed to!
Decided to try somewhere we haven’t been before, was pleasantly surprised. The place is small, but cozy and wonderful. Super attentive staff and the food was great! I had a Heidelburger and curly fries, the burger was juicy and the fries were well seasoned! Can’t wait to come back!
Great relaxing atmosphere - Indoors or outdoors...Waitresses and manager were superior in attentiveness...Food was delicious and filling - veal Jaeger schnitzel was tasty with potato pancake ...Chicken wings were spicy but hit the spot...Still a winner 3 years in a row ...
Stopped in for the first time tonight. I highly highly regret.... not coming here sooner. The beers on tap were phenomenal, got a liter of the hofbrau, huge, delicious. Just went with burgers for this time around, and for under $10 these are easily the best burgers in town, especially for the price.Good atmosphere, little small, but that was nice, didnt feel like i got lost to the servers in a big dining room. All in all, i will be recomending this place left and right from here on out, and i suspect i might just become a regular.
We were looking for a German restaurant in the area as our normal place has transitioned a very limited menu. Did some research and based on reviews decided to try it. There were seven of us in our group. Great food and excellent service. Everyone enjoyed their meals. Very small restaurant, but quaint. We will definitely be going back.
The red cabbage is amazing. Id eat a bowl of that by itself.Currywurst tasted good but was room temperature below the top and just plain cold on the bottom like the sausage and fries had been sitting for a while, and just had hot curry sauce poured on them. The place is really nice inside, and the waitress was super attentive.
Stopped in for dinner w/ my Dad after a busy Saturday of wrapping up our camp for the fall & winter. We were seated promptly and our drink order was taken swiftly. The HB Oktoberfest beer was great. Dad ordered a wurst platter w/ Leberkaese, Bratwurst & Knockwurst. His entree came with two sides, he chose German potato salad & sauerkraut. He was pleased with his selections. I ordered the Jaegersnitzel with spaetzle. Both were fantastic. Overall, the food was excellent and came out fairly quickly.Unfortunately, the young lady waiting tables inside seemingly became very overwhelmed by the incoming dinner crowd. Dad never received a refill of his soft drink despite having asked for one. No one came to refill drinks after that initial request. No one came to ask us how the meal was or if we needed anything else, either. After finishing the meal, we waited for no less than 20 minutes for the waitress to bring the check. This was at least 10 minutes after a fellow-waitress commented that she [was] working on checks right now. Overall, the service that day was terribly lacking. All checks are hand-written, which I suspect contributed to the slow down. Furthermore, the waitresss documentation of our bill lacked clarity. We suspect we were overcharged, but needed to leave so did not pursue this.Overall, the food was great but the service was terrible. I hope this is, perhaps, just a bad night, as can easily happen in the business. I will go back again for the great, authentic German fare. I hope next time to have a very different experience with the service so I can leave a more positive review.
Went here for my birthday dinner and I was in love! Food was great, and I LOVE the atmosphere. As a lover of German and Austrian culture, and as one with such roots, I’m always curious about anything German and/or Austrian, especially if it’s local.Boyfriend who is a picky eater, even enjoyed the restaurant, opting for a cheeseburger. He enjoyed his burger and the fries. And said he has no issues with returning, Wonderful because I intend to return often!I had the Wiener schnitzel, Spätzle and a potato pancake- everything was amazing. As well as the German vegetable and beef soup. Best soup I recall having. The aesthetic of the restaurant was very pleasing to me, reminding me of a traditional Gasthaus as seen in video footage I’ve seen.Staff was wonderful and kind. Also, very affordable! My only “complaint” is the lack of German language music, but I get they have to offer some other American things rather than burgers ;) but seriously, this place is amazing. I’ve already told my fellow American German and Austrian culture interested friends about this gem and intend to take them there if they ever are in the area.I can not wait to return. I’ve never enjoyed a birthday dinner more. It’s a must go to!
Went there with some friends and were very disappointed. I have been going to this resturant for 19 years. First they stopped giving salad with meal. I used to leave there stuffed with the portions. Now you order small or large portions. (Not very large) then they charge extra for a soup on board. I had more guests coming up this week and I was going to show them this resturant. Not going to happen. Taking them to pumpernickles. I must say the service was very good. To bad.
Our drinks were served almost immediately after being seated but it was 40 minutes before one of the cups of soup was served. The other cup of soup was served 10 minutes later. No explanation or apology was offered. (Apparently they ran out of it and had to heat another batch). The entree arrived before the second soup was finished. We had the sauerbraten and schnitzel which were okay. Definitely nothing to recommend here.
Gave it a try a few weeks ago for a week night dinner out.The sauerbraten was disappointing. Seemed like dry roast beef with a sour gravy. But the sausage sampler was tasty and the side dishes on both dinners were yummy. But the services was shockingly poor. Took forever to get the waitress to take our drink order -- which she did only after waiting on a nearby table that was seated after we had been. And then her indifference and preference for other tables only continued......she did finally ask me if Id like another beer, but by then I was finished eating my meal.Based upon the service alone, unlikely to return.
We are local and weve been here many times in the past 5 years. The majority of the staff is the same but they act like were tourists and have even asked us if weve ever eaten here before. The staff service has never been friendly or sincere when weve visited. The food is always pretty good and reasonably priced and this is the reason why we continue to come back.
It is our tradition to take our eight-year-old daughter to the Heidelberg after she performs in the Nutcracker Suite at the Wood theater. This year we ran late getting there and we were told they were just about to close. After seeing the disappointed look on my daughters face, Jaylene told us to wait one second and went into the kitchen and came back out and told us it would be no problem to serve us. The food and the service was exceptional! Jaylene and the kitchen staff went out of her way to accommodate us and make my daughters night was extra special. That sealed the deal for us that we will always be loyal customers and we would highly recommend this place to anyone for its outstanding German food, always friendly service and its cozy atmosphere. Thanks again Jaylene and kitchen staff!
The other night my husband and I went in to the Heidelberg Inn....we arrived very close to closing hours (which we hate to do) but we were still warmly welcomed and not rushed out the door. Our server, Amber, was very hospitable, personable, and helpful which made our experience that much more enjoyable. The whole place is cozy, rustic, and has that old-country charm!
Its the small details that makes this the best german food I have had in a while. Both the red cabbage and the spaetzle are homemade. The Weiss beer on tape is fresh and cold (very clean tap and lines) and the desserts are to die for... assume everything in between is just as good (service, ambiance, Schnitzel)All good...
My girlfriend and I were there on opening day, she was a Nurse and friend of owner, my Cousin did stonework for building. We loved Heidelberger and Chefs Salad, we are now in Florida but our kids are still there, but did you use Dill bread instead of Rye way back then?
I been going here for years now. But now I will never go again. I went with others. Staff is very nice though. But food was not cooked. In the years I been going I was always full when I went home but the food was small. My group was not happy. Really dont remcond this place.
Had very strong stomach pain the same night for 2 hours straight and then proceeded to vomitEdit: Also, we had to wait an hour for our food.Edit 2 (I cant figure out how to reply to your reply so Ill just do it here): I was there on the 1st of August. I ate a Hamburger with fries and ketchup and one of these filled chocolate things for dessert.
Was in there today for lunch, grabbed a Reuben. Excellent as always. Also..saw the bad review from last night. Personally, things happen. Despite how it looks like it was handled. I know the owners crew and they are all talented cooks. Everyone of those guys are hard working men. Dont let this ruin your own personal experience at the Hiedleberg. Keep up the hard work HIEDLEBERG CREW.
Went here after the lake george oktoberfest was so disappointed we ordered the saurbraten and it was like eating shoe leather saurbraten is suppose to be tender enough to break apart with your fork this meat was clearly processed not the real meat we are used to having when we get saurbraten we were informed by our waitress that it was precooked to add insult to injury while our waitress was very nice and accomodating the witch from hell that she went to for help trying to find out what she could do to help us was extremely rude so much so that i actually asked our waitress if she kept her own tips or if they get pooled as i did not want that other woman getting any of it even though i told her it was ok i wanted to keep mine she pulled it away from me saying she wanted to make it right and only proceeded to make matters worse i had only had one piece of meat and they said they would charge me for the soup and side that was suppose to come with the meal the fact that we were that upset with our food they shouldve taken off the entire bill to keep good customer relations but they wanted to split hairs like that i was so upset that i even returned the souvenir mug that i paid 3.50 extra for with a beer fill up which was only 15 ounces instead of the regular 16 oz it just left such a bad taste in my mouth that i couldnt bring myself to have there mug they had run out of saurbraten which they told us the previous day due to the large volume of crowds coming from the oktoberfest yet they were able to have it for us today so clearly it was inferior meat that they thought they could pass off as authentic saurbraten which is impossible as saurbraten has to marinate for a few days coming from german stock i found it very offensive that they would try to pass this off as saurbraten as we know full well how saurbraten is suppose to taste and how it is suppose to look and the tender texture it is suppose to have with a slightly crispy outside. heidelberg has lost 2 customers for sure possibly more with our families and friends when we tell them about our horrible experience here my sister got charged more than me because she ate a bit more of it than i did so she wanted the rest of what she didnt finish back and the red cabbage that goes with it and this woman actually said youve got to be kidding we are customers you dont talk to customers like that ever will never return here again the pumpernickel is a MUCH better choice they are also decorated in real german style and i believe they also play german oompah music while you eat and they dress in the dirndls and lederhosen they also have a huge cucoo clock this place offers none of that

2022-02-06My girlfriend and I came to the Heidelberg for our anniversary and we both loved it. Despite being packed the waitress made sure to ask if we needed anything a few times. We were also seated fairly quickly and the food was amazing. We will definitely be coming back for more.

2021-01-30The food and service was excellent. Everything we had tonight was delicious. I had the German Tour and really enjoyed the sauerbraten! I would easily order it again. The beef au jus with the horseradish sauce is a must have.We also orded the special which was a pork schnitzel with ham, cheese and a bacon sauce on top of it.My recommendation would be get more German beers on tap. Other than that, everything was great. Will be coming back.

2021-05-03W O W. I’ve only been here two times and the food both times have been outstanding! The authenticity of the building is just so nice and it feels like your in a real German Tavern. The potato pancakes and the Schnitzel were absolutely amazing. Hope to be coming here a lot more!

2020-08-08Old Heidelberg Inn restaurant....Update: while not the absolute worst we have had, definitely NOT the best nor in the top contendersOriginal:Eh jury still out. Right now, they are borderline. One person who is obviously overwhelmed, help just arrived. The interior is quaint and reminds me of the German guest house Restaurants.DrinksVery limitedBier is available, but did not try.Pepsi products ($2.50 with one refill, which was never offered or given) oh, wait she waited until almost the end, when I was asking for the check.Salad arrived prior to Appetizer, not quite sure why.Appetizer:The Stuttgart-Pretzel was ok, a tad too salty. The Brat had good flavor. The Bierkäße on the other hand, was heated up poorly and had as such separated and became watery.Main Entree-Wiener schnitzelVery non-descript, and bland. Zero flavor. It was tender however. Usually you have some sort of flavor - from the veal to something in the breading. The salad was basic house, and the German potato salad while tart was missing something. The only saving grace was the vinegar. And speaking of breading.. hahahaha keep reading...German Sampler PlatterA slice of bread in place of any type of traditional brötchen. I dubbed it the wonder-bread brötchen. HahahahaThe Brat - was good flavor (again) The Knock- was ok, And the Brauen - okSauerkraut was ok but not very bitey. And they forgot the potato pancake, of which we were to be up-charged. And now its being readied for take home, and looks like a hash-brown, and has similar taste.Overall, it was a sub-par dining experience. And not worth a second trip.
