Came here on a wim as I was passing by during NFL games. It was fairly empty and had plenty of TVs. Both of which I liked. Good beer selection and friendly bartenders who allowed me to sample some of the beers before I chose. If youre looking for a quieter place to enjoy a pint this isnt a bad choice.
We had a great Saturday afternoon here. It was pretty busy and the lovely bartender was covering the entire crowd on her own. Normally that would have been a negative but, not only was she excellent in her profession, but very patient as well. I liked the “no table service “ policy, in part because I required that I move every now and again if I wanted beer. I had two great IPA’s that I hadn’t known before and noted some to try next time.Food was good but predictable.
The craft beer selection is awesome and well priced at happy hour. Definitely try the hot honey wing sauce: its absolutely delicious. Beef brisket sandwich was also very juicy, served with fresh fries.Outdoor dining is also well done with heat lamps.4 stars not 5 because the buffalo chicken sandwich was disappointingly dry and bland. Suggest Hellcat Annies look into that sandwich.
Honestly I thought about giving 2 stars, however the food saved them as it was surprisingly good especially the wings. However the staff left a lot to be desired. One member was just very rude and unhelpful. While the other was nice and friendly, he did forget drinks a few times. Food and drinks also took a long time to come to the table and the bar just didnt seem to care.Would I go back...maybe, but if this experience happened again I think I would just find a new spot.
Went here for lunch on a Friday, theyre not open this early the rest of the week. I was the first one there so had the place to myself for a half hour or so. Bartender was totally cool, into sports, fun and friendly. The burger was pretty good, I think a little light on seasoning but pretty scrumptious. Beer selection is good. Comfortable atmosphere, a fun place to hang out!
This place is a personal favorite. They always have a great beer list, and if youre not sure what to order the knowledgeable bartenders will point you in the right direction. Food is always a must when Im imbibing and they have a decent selection of basic bar food. The atmosphere ranges from laid back to busy and crowded (especially during weekends and happy hour).
My corned beef was half pink and half brown, it would have been 1 star but the fries were good. Hostess was nice.Update: owner replied they don’t sell corned beef and accused me of being drunk. I replied :“Obviously you don’t know anything, i had a Reuben sandwich. And it was one beer.I DEFINITELY will not go there again!
Just stopped in for a couple beers and a quick bite, but was very impressed even in that brief time. The service was friendly and prompt, the beer selection was great and the Bavarian pretzels were delicious. Highly recommend if youre looking for a craft beer bar with a laid back vibe.
A great place for good beers and food. Large selection of draft beer. They even understood Norwegian accent, kudos. I had pulled pork and it was really tasty. The homemade bun, was moist and so was the pork. The atmosphere was friendly and welcoming and partyish even on a Thursday.
If you like good beer you owe it to yourself to check this place out. They have an excellent rotating selection of beer, and the service is always great. The bartenders are very friendly and approachable, and they have no problem making recommendations or even letting you try the different beers. It can get crowded at time, but not uncomfortable. Definitely one of my favorite bars in the city.
This is a small bar with 2 single stall bathrooms (male & female.) There are very few tables and table service doesnt include drinks. Youll have to order those and eye the bartender until its ready for you to pick up. The impossible burger was great, but I wish they offered vegan cheese to go with it. Their fries were delicious. Id visit this place again.
Huge beer selection and all of them are $7. Dive type of bar, with a good atmosphere. If you get to know or talk to the bouncer or the bartenders, youll have a great experience. The food there is very good although a bit pricey. Its one of my regular spots in the city.
In response to your comment. We stopped in on one of the last days of June. The place wasnt busy but it took over 20 minutes to order two drinks. We asked for top shelf liquor and received bar stock...however charged top shelf price. The drinks were horrible and the food is what everyone claims to be bar food. We do visit the city often and were very surprised at the lack of customer service while plenty of staff were available. Better luck for us next time maybe!
Hellcat Annies is a true neighborhood treasure. Its the perfect place to grab a drink or a bite any day or time of the week.A beer bar without being a Beer Bar (i.e. intimidating and pretentious), a place to watch sports while also enjoying conversation and music, and a hometown bar for people from all over the country, the owner has really created something special here. They have an incredible selection of beers on tap (plus special cans!) and the servers/bartenders are knowledgeable and friendly. On top of that, the food is way better than is needs to be or what you might expect. Their menu includes standard bar fare and a few items prepared with a unique twist, and its all good. I mean really good. Well-priced, quickly and consistently prepared—ideal for a casual dinner, late night snacks, or for sharing with friends while watching a game. Scruffy Duffys wings (traditional or boneless) never disappoint, and the nachos and pulled pork sandwich are delicious! An all-around great spot to enjoy alone, with family and friends, or the lovely strangers you will inevitably end up chatting with over a beer.
I have been coming here for years and it used to be one of my favorite beer bars in NY. Im really sad about how it has changed. It went from having tvs that listed the beers on tap and a charming new beer bell ritual to just another sports bar. It is probably a better than average spots bar with an OK beer list, but has lost its character.
I’ll admit up front that this rating is partially attached to how the bar was before the owners split up. It used to be an out-of-this-world rotating craft beer bar that had built a great following over the decade it was around. And while Annie’s seems to be slowly inching back towards a more diverse beer bar, I miss the days when you couldn’t even think about getting a seat at the bar on a Friday or Saturday night. Now it’s sort of a normal corner bar, filled with the last bit of local regulars that have stuck around.
I absolutely LOVE it here. I came with a group of five friends about a month ago and then again with my boyfriend a few nights ago. They have an awesome selection of beers, cocktails, and food. Also, their playlist is awesome. Definitely gonna make this a regular spot!
Originally my wife and I were visiting the DMV area. We decided to take a day trip to NYC and especially wanted to walk around Hells Kitchen. We stumbled across Annies and thought it was a good time for a beer. We made a great choice! A nice, quaint bar with good beer options and very friendly staff. We will make a return the next time we visit Hells Kitchen!
I loved it! The place is great, not big but not claustrophobic, beer selection is really good, tap beers are majority, and the menu is small but really good, NOT FOR VEGANS, the portions are good for the price and the taste is awesome, NOTE: most of the menu is a cholesterol bomb but is like heaven sent!!Update:Name changed to Annies Hellcat tap room, still awesome
This is one of my favorite after work bars...and apparently a lot of people feel the same way as it is crowded after work. Never ending list of rotating craft (many local) beers and they are about $5 each! An overwhelming selection of beers is written in their menu above the bar. Even mixed drinks are about $7. If you review 200 of them you get a shirt, ask the bartender how. They even serve food here but I have never tried it.
Beer centric bar catering to a younger crowd. They have a good selection of what appear to be rotating drafts at reasonable prices. Not as crowded as other places in Hells Kitchen and they werent blasting music later at night which made for a good environment for going out with friends who want to have productive conversation. Definitely worth a visit if you are on a craft beer tour of New York.
Amazing beer list, seemless neighborhood feel friendliness among staff, ownership, locals and tourists, and business community clientele. Good food. Handsome and comfortable atmosphere. The owner, Pat, is a true and great New Yorker who works hard for perfection; and loves his work and his clientele and staff.
Great selection of local crafts and friendly bartenders. Plus, the regular prices are reasonable and their happy hour prices are great! Didnt try the food, but those around that did had great things to say. Menu seems interesting and will definitely try food on the next visit.
I love this place. They have an excelent selection of craft beers from all over the US. They are really good prices, mostly at only $5. Its sort of a small space so it gets crowded but its one of my favorite bars in town. Their selections change a lot too so there is always something new. A must for someone who enjoys microbrews.
Great variety of beer. There was only one barman when I got there and the place was fairly full, so he was a little overwhelmed. Later another one showed up. Not having table service is an interesting choice, but here was a mild nuisance, since the bar was really full and I didnt have room to talk to the bartender. Other than that, really good.
Went here on 10/6/18. The atmosphere was great! The locals were talkative and fun and so was the bartender who had the three deathly hollows tattoo on his left arm. Food was great i reccomend the chedder bacon ranch fries but make sure you have people to share with they give you a lot. Great selection of drinks as well, something for everyone. It is a little small on the inside but that wasnt an issue at the time i went which was a little pass noon.
Very friendly staff good beers on tap and really delicious wings. My one criticism would be that they really need to reevaluate their fish tacos as they were bland and uninspired with no hint of mango or habanero and very small portions of fish loaded with iceberg lettuce and canned corn. Aside from that the pretzel bites, wings, and especially the fries are all great!
Walked into the bar and I immediately loved the atmosphere. It had a certain sophistication about it that made you feel you werent just there to drink beer and get drunk, but to critique each beer tasted. Bartender was awesome. Let us try a bunch of different beers as samples. Compared to the bar up the street (Rudys) that boasts cheap beer and free food, spare yourself the horrible experience and go to the Pony Bar instead. I wish I didnt live in Nebraska or else Id come back to this place many more times. Keep it up.
Sweet little divey/quiet bar in Hell Kitchen. Stopped in briefly around 730pm in a Tuesday, pre-movie, and found a solid draft list at decent priced ($7/$8) and varied draft list. Didnt get to try the food, but the place smelled of wings, which is always a good thing. Bartenders were attentive and jovial, as well. Check it out.
Great, lively bar, when you can get it. The constant crowds during peak hours make it difficult, but when its more manageable, you can experiment with some great beers and mingle with patrons of all types. People who like Pony Bar are very loyal, and its worthwhile to find out why.
We were staying in Hells Kitchen and popped into Annies for their lunch combo deal at noon. You can get a couple of sliders and a drink for $8.95, we added fries for $2 and for the price it was a good deal. The food, although simple, was nice and freshly made.I would probably return for another lunch if I was in the area again.
I guess if you live in NYC, you think this is a good bar because its that hard for you to get out and see whats really out there in the micro-brew or craft brew scene. Four people were in the bar and the bartender still managed to be pretentious and too busy prepping for the evening rush to actually provide decent service and knew nothing about the beer. The cask ale was terrible and nowhere close to a proper temperature (it was too warm ~65-70 degrees). While I went on an apparent Founders theme (all but one tap was Founders) and they do make good beer, there is more to life than one beer company. I guess if youre a hipster who wants to think you know about the craft scene and want to feel like youre part of the hipster scene and feel good, I guess this is the spot for you. as for me, Ill hit up a proper pint somewhere else. Maybe I just went on a bad day.
Had a nice stop there for lunch. Loved the service and the atmosphere. I thought the tap selection was very diverse and had a lot of local brews.and it was nice to see that they had the impossible burger on their menu for vegans and vegetarians. Would definitely make a stop there again!
As a concept, it is wonderful. Carefully curated American beers rotate through the numerous taps. A semi-exclusive club for those who have tried over 100. A down-to-earth, roughly hewn tavern of sorts. In actuality, its not the perfection it sounds to be, but is still very good. Getting a beer can at times be difficult, in part due to the popularity but also in part due to bartenders also waiting tables and serving food. Some months have weaker beers than others, and the food is a bit on the expensive side for what youre being served. But the strengths outweigh the flaws here, and the unending opportunity to try brews youve probably never heard of is too good to pass up.
As a craft beer lover and afficionados, I had to hit up the Pony Bar while in NYC. After walking along the High Line which isnt too far from this place, we decided to check it out after a friend recommended it (hes a regular there). We walked in and immediately fell in love with the place. The atmosphere is casual, theres wood everywhere including barrels which are part of the decor (and furniture) and a nice long bar where people can sit elbow to elbow and hangout. We did just that, and hung out for a good couple of hours. They have two locations and Im not sure how they compare to one another but this one, in Hells Kitchen, was nice and clean. It wasnt all that spacious though and was packed with people the whole time we were there. That area didnt seem to offer too many alternatives, especially for craft beer so we were pretty excited to be able to remain in that neighborhood and we immediately ordered a few rounds of cold ones. One awesome thing which I wish more bars had is their tap screen - behind the bar are two giant televisions which display which beers are on tap (and cask) and it is updated very frequently. Their website also updates in accordance to whats on tap just like the televisions. They also have a brand new mobile app available for both Android and iOS where people can check-in, rate and track their beers and win prizes. Awesome, right?!Their pints are super affordable and their happy hour are between 4:20PM and 5:20PM is great with every pint of beer for $4 making it a great deal, especially for craft beer. Their regular price is $5 a pint as well which is much cheaper than any bar in Boston where I reside. As far as the beers go, they have a ton of local ones but go to great efforts to keep the selection as diverse as possible. They have something like 20-something beers there and have everything from hop-centric ones to porters, stouts and ales. All served very cold and very fresh. Theres nothing super rare there, but then again, I was only there once so who knows. They also have food there but we didnt get any - Nothing on the menu was above $11 though so its all affordable as well and most run at $9 or $10 a plate. From spicy gumbo ($10) to Thai calamari ($10) to a short rib sandwich ($10) and a sirloin burger ($10), Im still not over how cheap it all seems to be. Maybe next time Ill eat there but Id honestly rather make room for the beer. The staff was friendly and was able to let us sample a few of the beers as well. No complaints really, except that, like I said, the place gets packed daily so keep that in mind when you go.
Walking in here brought ideas of what a neighborhood bar should be. Lively, a large beer collection, and some energetic staff. It was kind of cool to see two people on the same night finish their beer challenge. If I remember correctly, they have to have ordered all the types of beer at the bar. Typical burgers and fries available.
Shortly after taking your first sip of a delicious pint, youll hear the glorious ding of a bell followed by joyous shouts of New Beer!, which I can only liken to valkyries welcoming one of their fiercest warriors home. What you have experienced is the changing of the guard. See, The Pony Bar only stocks one keg of each beer; meaning that once it runs out its gone and they must rotate in a brand new beer. Ive frequented The Pony Bar numerous times with various groups of friends, and it never disappoints. If you like trying many different kinds of beers (mostly local/domestic), this is the place for you.
Simple. Screens that change as the beers do. Great prices on said beers, ESPECIALLY for New York. Awesome selection. Attentive bartenders. Unpretentious atmosphere. One thing to note: the music was very loud when I was there and we had to do some shouting just to be heard across the table.
I live in Hells Kitchen but Im low income. This is one of the few low-key spots closeby that doesnt make me regret going there when I go to pay the bill. Good food, friendly bartenders, good selection. A bit of an older crowd, its not going to be filled with artists, hipsters, or tourists.
This is a perfect place if you cant decide where to bring your friends or family to eat for a quality dinner. The service is wonderful, and the food are breathtaking. Price are cheaper than expected, thus CP value is raised. This weekend or some evening, come and see why people love this restaurant.
We stumbled upon this place in Hellscat Annies on our way back from the USS Intrepid museum. We sampled some of the house IPA also some food. The staff were wonderful, also the local people. A Big shout out to Tray our Bar person and Eddie Chan, a lovely person we bumped into in the bar.
Whenever I find out about another bar that serves craft beer, I smile inside a little bit. I know that the mega-breweries still hold a commanding place in the market, but every time somebody really enjoys their pint of whatever, its that much better for the little guy.Pony Bar not only does that, but keeps it on the American tip, which is really cool too, though I cant help but wonder if they didnt get the idea from Barcade (aka Im too lazy to find out). But either way, this is a very decent bar. Busy, but not overcrowded. Far enough away from Times Square not to be overrun with tourists. Loud but not raucous crowd. I wouldnt seek it out, as there are plenty of other craft beer bars in the city that are similarly good, but if it were my hood, Id be in there quite a bit.
Im a boy, I dont like beer. I like cocktails. But Im slowly learning to drink beer. The stepped into the pony bar. Seemed chill. Thats a good start.Next, I looked at the extensive beer menu on the wall. Omg, how was I supposed to choose? I guess I could choose it based on alcoholic content- pick the strongest one DUH. Or choose it based on names. I chose some sort of Brooklyn Lager, I figured I should drink some local beer.I didnt know my beer was going to be dark. I dont like dark beers. I should have known that a Brooklyn Lager would be dark! It was quite good though, slightly smoky.I guess next time Ill ask the bartender to help me choose a beer.
They are legendary for their Juicy Lucy burger, with the cheese inside the burger. Their chicken strips are amazing - hand cut and wonderfully crispy breading. It isnt on the printed menu, but you can order a dinner basket. The onion straws are delicious and a giant portion.
I wish I drank more beer, because Pony has a great selection of craft beers on tap that rotate regularly. However, the bartender didnt shoot me a funny look when I ordered a glass of wine. It stays busy pretty much all night, but if you can find a seat, take it and dont move.
Basically NYC beer. Beer is worse than Pony Bar. Same layout as its predecessor. Maybe they changes barrels into tables. Famous wings were good, not great.Response from owner before they delete it: Beer is worse than Pony Bar?That sounds idiotic. Other-half, KCBCand Single-cut not crafty enough for you? Pony bar is still open at 75th street. Go for it.My response to owner - Sounds like you are new to the craft beer game. You get the same NYC beer that I can get at any bar. We left your bar, and walked up to As Is, because of your lacking tap list.Pony Bar currently has: Smuttynose, Founders, Victory, Half Acre, Saranac, Port City, Allagash, Hill Farmstead, Anderson Valley. Thats on top of the easy access NYC beers - Interboro, KCBC, Gun Hill, Brooklyn, Industrial Arts.
Sadly I used to love this place and frequent it anytime I was in Hells Kitchen. Back in June, I attempted to use a gift card to pay for a few beers and eats for my friend and I. They tried to run the card several times, but told me it wasnt going through. So my friend gave them his card, which they charged. I found out later a charge WAS placed on my card after all. After months of calling the restaurant to try to rectify this double billing, they are simply not helping me. I cant ever step foot in there again with their extreme disrespect to customers, and inability to help solve this simple problem.
All beers are $5, they are listed on the menu by ABV, and they have an incredible selection of American microbrews. Hooray for microbrews other than Sierra Nevada & Dogfishead (ew)! The dinner menu is small but the spicy sausage is excellent, as are the home made chips.Gets a little crowded at happy hour but usually thins out early.
The Pony Bar of old has disappeared, and a new place has appeared nextdoor they has two names, and is claiming to be the new Pony Bar. Beer list is good, but service was terrible. Instead of the old Pony Bar menu its now pizza. The food was cold, and overpirced. Not sure whats going on. But very dissapointed.
With beer prices creeping up to the $8 a pint mark, this Hells Kitchen watering hole keeps things real with plenty of pints for $5. The rotating selection of American craft brews is unrivaled in this area of town and the room is always packed with hops heads trying to drink their way through 100 labels for a free T-shirt. The food is an afterthought - pretzels and burgers are serviceable but you should knock back a few pints and then head elsewhere for dinner.
The bartenders were impatient and rude. First time exploring the area on 01/07/17. but saw this bar so stumbled inside. Me and my two friends were looking through yelp on which drinks/food were recommended. Took us awhile to look because of our bad phone receptions; however, the bartenders assumed we were all there to just steal their wifi just because my one friend asked for it to better load her internet. He asked us what to order once and we told them we are trying to figure that out on the phone. Then second time he came he basically kicked us out for just sitting there. Relax dude, noone just want to sit there and just use your wifi at 1am especially when you basically get free wifi anywhere in nyc. Im a bartender too so their actions were unnecessary. Instead of rushing us girls why dont you recommend and help us on your menu if youre that inpatient. Under 10 mins we got mad how rude they were so we got up and left to Rudys which is a much better joint with patient and helpful service. So, save yourself the headache and go to Rudys,
Beers, Beers, Beers! Although I lived in Hells Kitchen, I didnt really go out and drink in this area. Partly because I wasnt as familiar with the area in comparison to lower Manhattan, but thats not an excuse. I vowed that Id explore my neighborhood, and thus begins my journey to The Pony Bar. The Pony Bar is located right on 10th Ave, between 45th and 46th. Now before you come here, you better like beer, and you better like it a whole lot. Here, there are just loads of beers on tap, and none of them are PBR or Natural Light. From Kona to Troegs, The Pony Bar has it all.Now if youre looking for a quiet place to grab a drink, then the Pony Bar probably isnt for you. This is a spot where you can grab a great beer, and have obnoxiously loud conversations with your friends. Prices are incredibly reasonable, and if you suddenly get the beer munchies, then youre in luck because they serve food here. From finger foods such as potato chips, to full blown meals like gumbo, the world really is yours.Being in Midtown West, youre always fighting for space against tourists. Luckily at the Pony Bar, it isnt too overly crowded with them. I can come inside, grab a beer, and not have to see people walking around with their SRL cameras snapping away at everything. I like beer, and I like The Pony Bar. Perhaps Ill bring my growler next time.
Dust off your button up shirt and prepare to enjoy some tasty craft beers with your fellow beer snobs... Can get really crowded but service has always be exceptional... I like the back corner... it makes the recluse in ne almost feel at home... come to think of it I should come here more... My mother always told me I was an alcoholic... Do not want to prove her wrong... I say I say I say...
Apologies for previous post, submitted in error through google maps (more haste, less speed). Didn’t realise this happened. Called in for lunch and drink after uss intrepid visit. Could have chilled there for rest of afternoon, alas nyc beckoned. Great place and food. Very welcoming.

2022-09-19We came to hellcat annie’s for a late lunch during our stay in New York. We were greeted kindly and offered drinks immediately. We thought the prices for the location were very reasonable and the food was lovely. We had burger and fries, 2 beers and 2 vodka lemonades. Would recommend this place 100% :))

2022-04-27Ive only been on a break from, so Ive never been able to try their beer selection, but the food has been fairly good. Ive thoroughly enjoyed their wings! But the service is just so slow and the food take a while to come out. I wish I could enjoy the experience more, but I dont enjoy chasing down wait staff to get attention.

2021-02-19Me and my friend walked by this place and stopped for a burger lunch randomly. They have big outdoor seating area with TV that shows sports and huge selection of beer.Service was outstanding and burger was really amazing. Burger was $13.95 plus $1 for cheese and $2 to get side salad or sweet potato fries or onion rings. It was very satisfactory and ended up with nice simple lunch stop.

2022-07-26STAY AWAY!!! STEAL from you and OWNER is nuts!!! (Both Hellcat Annie’s and Scruffy Duffy owned by same person). I used to go in there frequently for the food and drinks (it was good)…spending a few hundred dollars over the past few years.Stealing: They changed the tip when they processed the charge. (I didn’t tip cuz it was a pickup order.) I know it because I checked a few days later and it didn’t match my credit card statement. I even went back to the bar to notify the owner and he never called me (reason for this post originally). Then after posting this, the owner texted me directly. Owner says it could have been his own mistake but that is even worse if that is the case (just blanket filling in tips to patrons).Owner: This owner is off his rocker. He owns both Scruffy Duffy and Hellcat Annie’s. The texts and every comment he makes to a bad review should suffice to prove it.

2019-10-31We stop here before heading to a company function in the area. The place is on the smaller size but it wasn’t bad on a Thursday evening. They do have a wonderful beer selection if you are into craft beer. Actually found a really good sour that night. We are also fried pickles fans but unfortunately their pickles were lacking.

2022-09-01Good variety of beers, good music and reasonable prices make this a great afternoon stop!
