The dog park is super necessary for this neighborhood of dog lovers, always good amount of dogs there and the size of the small dog area is pretty generous! I just wish theyd install water fountains for the pups, they knock over their drinking bowls in two seconds and we all pray someone brought a water bottle.
This small but humble park has something for everyone. A dog park, basketball court, wall for tennis or handball, chess tables, playground, water feature, BBQ area with tables, a loop for running, green space for taking a nap or tanning, and an auditorium for goodness sake! Theres plenty of shade to stay cool as well. It might not be the biggest or the best park in the city, but its definitely a 5 star park for its caliber.
My pup loves this park! We go a few times a week and sometimes on the weekends. There’s a big dog park and a small dog park and at times there’s larger dogs in the small dog park but they are usually more chill (which is safest for the small dogs). Even when the small dog park is empty, I feel confident taking my small dog into the large dog park because the dogs are usually pretty sweet and owners keep close watch!
Took my 8 month old miniature aussie shepherd here for the first time. (For both me and her), they have a section for small dogs only which was very nice and the owners and dogs were friendly. No fights or matches that needed breaking up and most dogs were fixed. I only went in the small dog area but it was clean save for a few broken toys but nothing of danger or concern. I went on a Saturday so there were about 10+ dogs. Recommend. Will go again.
Good dog run with lots of space. Majority of the handlers there are responsible, Ive rarely heard of any incidents but they certainly happen. The further section is technically for big /more active dogs but that rule is only like half followed, especially when theres less dogs around. Only downside is the park floods when it rains and becomes a lake/mud pit.
The Von King Dog Park is too small for the amount of furry babies who currently live in and around the vicinity of the park. Presently there are renovation projects such as ground keeping (recovering alot of bald spots in the grassy areas), bathroom overhaul taking years to finish and its quite dirty throughout the park. Some people arent really using the receptacles provided plus maintenance cleaning is needed. Outside of this people are enjoying themselves spending time with family and friends. DJ music blazing from the stage helps to get you in the mood too.
It’s a cute neighborhood spot. The dogs are cool and the owners are courteous. Everyone respects the space considering all the dogs are there at once. It’s clean, doesn’t stink. My dog and I usually enjoy ourselves every time we’re there. There are 2 sections that are well separated. The park is small and fairly quiet. I love it and there’s a coffee shop not too far if you want a quick bite.
Its one of the larger dog runs in the area. The amenities are pretty bare bones, and the ground can turn into muddy ponds after rain storms, but its nice that there are two separate fenced in areas which people use for mellower or more active dogs. Of course, there are also the off-leash hours in the larger field just steps away in the park, too.
Its always a fun time here, with all the dogs and owners hanging out. There are two pens, one for bigger dogs, and the other for smaller dogs. The ground is primarily dirt and woodchips. The drainage is bad, so do note that after rain, it gets puddly, muddy, and generally messy af.
It used to be a lovely dog park but since bed-stuy is a fast growing community, it is now packed!! always!!! And I have known countless dogs to leave here and end up catching Mange from another dog at this dog park. Also, people dont know proper park etiquette like not shutting the gate door and letting dogs out who end up running into the street! I do not recommend taking your dog there unless you work from home and can hit the park around 1p - little more chill at that time.
Park is pretty well maintained and has nice wide paths.Great little dog run. Remember to bring water for your dog (if you want your dog to have water in the first place). Nice double gate entrance. I’ve always had a pretty good experience with dogs and people alike. Be prepared, in wet conditions this area has the potential for a lot of mud.
This park is very nice and brings out a side of bedford-stuyvesant that outsiders are not aware of. I work out and hang out in the park almost every day. I saw two kids about 10 years old have a fist fightold school styleeven that was a good experience. They got it out of their system shook hands and made up.. Ive never seen one argument or one negative incident of any kind. They have concerts weekly and all kind of events. I give this park five stars and recommend this park to everyone and I mean everyone. I guarantee you will feel welcome 😊....
One of the only dog runs in Bed Stuy. Overall, its a good place for dogs to socialize. Owners are generally courteous too.A few things it can improve on:- a giant lake develops after a rainy day (like today). Some times it takes a couple of days for this lake to get cleared and can be a bit of a health risk for dogs- I like how there are two sections in the park but there should be clear labels on which section is for large dogs and which section is for small dogs.
This dog park is the only one for this entire area of Brooklyn and can get pretty crowded because of that which I think can also lead to dogs feeling crowded and getting uncharacteristically aggressive. Additionally the fences are not well maintained and dogs can jump out of the park and into the streets or into the back area that isnt maintained.I agree with the other comments that people have posted: No water station, can get incredibly muddy, and trash cans arent emptied as much as they should be.Its a bummer because its truly the only place to bring my dog in the area, but needs some TLC. With just a few improvements it could be 5 STARS! 3 stars basically for just existing and having potential.
Actually, out of most of the dog parks Ive been to in Brooklyn & Manhattan, this is one of my faves. Lots of room, and benches. My smaller dog also likes the wood chips/dirt & grass over pebbles. That being said... I feel like maybe they should make the time out area just for small dogs. Also, they def need a water fountain. I wouldnt be mad if they changed the wood chips, either. Also, if your dog can jump, I saw one sail clear over the fence (inside the park, but still) once.Otherwise, its generally a good group of owners, which is what really makes a great dog park. 🐶 🌳💟🐾
Its a great dog park in bedstuy but the only downside is the ppl. The ppl dont watch their dogs and it seems to be used by a lot of dog walkers. Ive seen pleanty of of dog fights here and the dog owners seem not to care that much. There is two separate play area for the dogs but there always aggressive dogs there with incompetent humans.
Happy this place exists, because it’s well-needed in the neighborhood. I go with my pup almost every day and really enjoy it, but agree with other posters about the need for a water source, more frequent mulching to prevent it becoming a mud pit, and more frequent emptying of the trash cans.
Big dogs as well as small dogs play here. Sometimes, it can be a good thing.. And sometimes bad. My dog got bit by 2 pitbulls. If you have a small breed dog, i dont recommended taking them there during certain hours while big dogs like pitbulls and huskys are unleashed. Theres no direct rules but please note, just because dogs are friendly to humans, that doesnt mean it will be so friendly to other dogs
Its okay. It could be better, but also a lot worse, I guess. Its also one of the few fenced in dog parks that isnt in Greenpoint or Williamsburg, so it gets points for just existing, I guess. Also very thankful that it isnt pebbles, my dog wont walk on them and therefore a bunch of dog parks become non-viable options.
Its horrible.. the people dont know how to take care of them dogs no one watches the place and the park definitely doesnt keep up with the maintenance its always run down and disorganized and all the dog poop bags I never in there receptacles it seems like no one bothers to you and refill them
They kidnapped my dog here and sold it back after dyeing its tail! Please read before coming here! The dog area is extremely cliquely, its over run by this unruly gang of new-age art-school alumni PTA moms from the Midwest. They take pride in pantsing you (the immature act of pulling your pants down when youre not looking) they are big on shame!! So come prepared with tighty-whiteys or boxer-briefs! I made the mistake of running into them and the Van Buren Boyz.

2022-03-15The new upgraded room is huge! Much better use of the space. I hope the addition of a water fountain is still in the works. Also, not sure what the wood chips are treated with, but my dog always gets extra drooly and puffy eyes. Anyone else?

2021-09-16Place is pretty awesome. Dog park, basketball, tennis, baseball, amphitheater, kids playground the works. It’s clean, families are ALWAYS there hanging out. Plenty of good people and great dogs. It’s safe, pretty flowers; looking for a great place to take the kids? Go here.

2022-06-14Great little dog run! Two sections, one for smaller dogs and the other for all sizes. Theyve improved it over the past few years, and added wood chips so its not AS muddy when it rains (but still a bit in some sections). The dog owners who frequent here are mostly pretty chill too. It can get a tad busy on the weekends and late afternoon/evenings - it just means more pup friends for your furry family member tho!

2022-04-20Dogs and puppies love playing in this dog part. Divided into 2 sections one for smaller dogs and puppies. Just make sure you are vigilant of your dog and make sure you move out of the way...running dogs having fun can knock you down...

2022-04-19It seems the city has provided a nice opportunity for people to get their dogs out of their houses and have them play. Some people do not realize the blessings they have and just watch without response when their dogs pick on and attack a newcoming dog. They need to learn some manners themselves first.

2022-05-16VON KING PARK better known as Thompkins park is NOT a dog park the dogs were given a courtesy of taken the old garden located on marcy and laffayette NOWHERE ELSE in the park. But the BBQ area that I was in was fine as it has been for the last 20 years.

2022-04-11The improvements are just ok. There is still a flooding issue but its not as bad. But looks like they lined the the ground then filled it in so the water has no place to go and its creating a smelly problem. Also they used large wood chips and the dogs have been hurt by them a few times that I have seen.

2020-02-23Fine park. gets the job done. concur with the mud, it’s wicked when it’s wet. plenty o’ benches. so many small dogs in the big dog run and so many big dogs in the small dog run. ¯\/_(ツ)_/¯ lotsa dust and wood chips. there’s a cool tree stump throne in the small dog run.

2022-04-28This is the best dog park in the neighborhood. They have a small dog area and a large one...it is well fenced, and the dogs can runabout 150 feet. No water fountain for the pups, and it is mostly dirt...but the residents clean it and it is the best option for 15 blocks in any direction. The park it is attached to is also quite nice for a stroll and really beautiful.
