There are a lot of things to like about this place. To start with the good, the food is definitely delicious, the ambience indoors is great, the tequila selection is impressive, and the staff were all very nice. However, there are some significant limitations that keep me from giving 5 stars. The drinks are surprisingly small for their price and the system seems pretty disorganized. For example, we were given the food for another table, even after we tried to tell the server we thought he had the wrong table, the guacamole (for the guacamole and chips appetizer) came almost 20 minutes after the chips at the same time as the entrees, and the bartender had to ask us to remind him what drinks we already had ordered from a different staff member. All said, wed love to come back and definitely want to try out the live music.
Fatty-fresh mexican food. 90% of the time I order the pure carne burrito and it takes me straight to burrito euphoria. Ive tried most of the dinner plates and they are sooo good and sooo authentic. All food is cooked in front of you (see that its fresh), salsa bar is huge and give slightly oily but light corn chips-delicious!!.
It’s somewhere between a 3.5 and a 4.5. The concept is cool - jazz + Mexican food and tequila. The food is good but the drinks, especially the margaritas are small and the service is poor (no bar back, low attentiveness to tables). Moreover, there is a hidden fee for music, when they do live music, that they don’t tell you about when you first show up (but was on our bill at the end). Honestly, if they addressed the service, drink sizes, and were more clear on the music fees upon entering, this would actually be a very cool place to go visit.
All the braised meats we tried from here were delicious - the mixiote dish, the carnitas taco, and the birria taco. I thought the al pastor quesadillas and chilaquiles were dry, but I’d definitely come back for the braised meat dishes. We did takeout, but itd definitely be more fun to eat there.
After a long day of work and school, I was famished and needed some Comida Mexicana! After 20 minutes of searching google maps for Mexican restaurants, Hermana caught my eye! I figured sounds great, I love my sister what can go wrong. The food is top notch! I ordered a veggie burrito, with the guacamole and chips. Hermana did not disappoint. I got a new favorite Mexican Jam in Manhattan. Why are you still reading this, order some dam Mexican food from Hermana already!

2022-05-14Would recommend (2 out of 3)- Al pastor quesadilla was a tasty delight. A little greasy but in the way you’re ashamed to say you prefer. Go chicken if you want a lighter experience.- The guacamole is absolute 🔥. More buttery than tangy, which I prefer.- Service was a little slow but who’s in a rush. They kept the margs coming when I needed them most, so I can’t complain.

2021-07-23Amazing tacos and love jazz,We came here for a late dinner and Hermana did not disappoint. All of the tacos we tried were wonderful and unique. We even got a second plate to split afterwards. The staff were friendly, and the live jazz was a nice touch.

2022-08-08This restaurant is in my neighborhood but it was my first time coming to see my friend whose Jazz Band was performing here. The restaurant has very good enchiladas and they charge $10 for live music. I will come again next time when my friend is playing when my schedule can work.

2020-09-06Wonderful vibe. Live music, great coctails, friendly staff. Had the “Mexican Caesar,” the lettuce was grilled and the salad was lovely- though I hear the non salad food is great. Ford brought me this watermelon cocktail and apparently they only use fresh juices. They pass the hat around for the musicians for now, I love feeling like Im back in nola. Pandemic seating outdoors is nice, and yes they let you use the bathroom if you are a customer.

2021-05-27Best taco weve had. No exaggeration. The carne asada taco and al pastor taco were mind blowing, carnitas taco was great too. The mixiote had deliciously tender pork shoulder and best brussel sprout we ever had. So much so They said meat loving partner raved more about the brussel sprouts than the meat.

2022-04-17On a trip to NYC for a long weekend away, Hermana was suggested by a local as a place to go for good food and great music. And it exceeded expectations. A great set up to hear the music, and a selection of talent that was mind blowing. Be sure to order the Birria Mulitas. You won’t be disappointed.

2022-08-07Great beer, great music, and great service. The singer that night (Arianna Neikrug) was also astonishing. If you catch her one night, you would be blown away! Trust me.

2021-10-22Great little place for top notch Jazz, some of the best players in the city…hell the world for that matter pop in and play all the time. You never know who might just show up and sit in. The food is also excellent, with arguably some of the best authentic tacos in the city…ohhhh did I mention the massive tequila selection? Do yourself a favor and get in there, you won’t be disappointed!!!
