When I discovered that the pipe that goes from our house to the septic tank was leaking, I knew it was imperative that I hired the right contractor to dig up the mess and correct the problem. Thank goodness I found Jason at Herring Sanitation because you need a true professional with experience to get a job like this done right. Jason was extremely prompt and knowledgeable... and was able to explain exactly what caused our problem. Jason found additional problems and corrected them quickly with fair prices. Its a good feeling to know that all of those issues are behind us for years to come. Thanks, Jason.
They were not professional they didnt finish the job of pumping my tank and then did not want to give me a good discount for the fact they didnt finish the job. There was faualty notations of septic size in their past notes from former owner.Also information they did have was not accurate which ended up,costing me the new owner a year later a brand new tank and they would not even give me a good discount on the tank and Jason wasnt the nicest person to speak to.So they lost a customer and a tank job.
I LOVE Herring Sanitation! They are a family run business and have been around forever. That alone says something. The owners are great people and very honest and real community minded. They do great work and respond quickly when you need them. We have always been very happy with their work and now they even have fancy portable toilets which I used at a wedding recently - it was nicer than my bathroom! LOL
All i have to say is this company is AWESOME. I used to use another big name company Earth Care) and they ripped me off i had a problem with my septic and was told i may need new leach field and i called herring and Jason came out within 15 mins and the problem was fixed just like that. I told him that i will be using Herring going forward because i am tired of getting ripped off by Earth Care - Herring Sanitation You guys ROCK thanks so much for helping me out and i wish more people were like your company!!!!!
I was having an engagement party at my house with a guest list of 200 people and I did NOT want everyone going inside to use the bathroom, especially since I am on a well. From the first phone call inquiring about their services to the pickup of the portable restroom at the end of our contract, every individual that I spoke to was professional, courteous and very accommodating. The portable restroom was nothing short of perfect!! It was meticulously clean, it was decorated beautifully and most importantly IT SMELLED GREAT! Our party was an all-day affair and ALL DAY it did not have that nasty porta potty smell, which was a big concern of mine! Their portable restrooms are equipped with air conditioner, pleasant fragrant fresheners and radio. The reserve tank filled with water was enough however, I was concerned with the large party we might need more so they also connected it to the house just in case it was needed, very reassuring to have that option as well. They delivered the restroom a day before the party, set it up and explained everything I needed to know (very sweet guys) overall my experience with Herring sanitation was wonderful! I do have to add they were a little bit pricey compared to others in the area. With that said, their product and services show why. I would much rather spend a bit more to be assured everything will be perfect and to my standards. Its one less thing to worry about. They exceeded my expectations all around with this experience. I highly recommend Herring sanitation!!
Septic problems on Sat night, Sunday service by Herring Sanit. was great and the Plumber Peter got to the root, of our problem. Thanks again, and Im happy that the company has a direct line instead of a call service. Thanks too Amy! I wouldnt hesitate to call them again for future service.
We had a difficult situation, with a very old house and no idea where the septic tank was. The crew from Herring did an awesome job, finding it, uncovering it in a very difficult location, and pumping it. They worked efficiently and quickly. Very pleased with the service.
Weve been customers for I dont even know how long.... 20 years? Longer? Herring has pumped out tanks for us at locations in Holmes and Patterson. Their drivers are always friendly, patient, courteous .... explaining things that you know theyve probably had to explain over and over, day after day. Maybe one of the most important things I learned is especially critical right now: DONT FLUSH THOSE WIPES. Even if they say flushable.

Septic problem (toilet backing up) … midwinter … temps under 10 degrees … snow covered ground ... worst time of year … called 8AM … Herring here before 11AM. I had Herring come out to pump my septic tank and check our fields since we just bought the house. They said the fields were mushy after it had just rained and just shot out a number of $11,000 to get new fields installed without looking at anything else. I had another company come and inspect the area because I felt very weary about Herring. The other company came out and inspected the entire area and said that the only thing wrong was the distribution box and that it needed to be replaced because it had crumbled which was visible when they exposed the area. Therefore, their could not be a problem with the fields because nothing was even getting to them. I ended up paying $1100 instead of $11,000. Herring didnt even check the distribution box. They are trying to rip people off and after speaking with other people that have used them they said the same thing.
I called Herring for a tank pump. What an outstanding group of people! Kind, funny and professional. Knowledgeable of the area. I guess thats what happens when youve been in business so long. I felt as though I was speaking with family.
Rip off!! These people are dishonest! I called for a price and these people just showed up and started digging holes in my yard. I didnt even hire them. I have a map which they could have used had I known they were coming. Then they charged me 950 bucks to pump the septic when I had another company coming for only 350. To top it all off, they damaged my sprinklers system and claim they have no idea how it happened. Shop around before you use these guys otherwise youll be sorry you even called them!
Had Septic issues. I Calledge and they arrived in 20min to pump my tank. They sent extra guys 1hr later to snaked the main line. Service was quick and problems resolved.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED
This is our second year renting a portable toilet for our families big BBQ. The other DAT the guy who delivered it , Casey, was so polite & kind. My husband & I both said he was one of the nicest guys we had ever met. We will be renting from Herring again next year for sure
Sharon and Jim herring are truly some amazing people not bias or discriminatory of there employees or customers working hard to satisfy and improve all avenues of service daily all I can say from my family to yours is Thank you I’m currently employed here and must say it’s a very healthy work environment and I feel appreciated as well as seeing the urgent attention and prioritiey every customer receives. I wish I could give 0 stars. Would never use again. Had jason put in a septic drain at my house left me such a mess gave me a price than asked for 2000 dollars more after completing job. My yard is a mess. Worse than what it was. Said he would come back to fix and never did. Took the money and ran. I have pictures of the mess. Do yourself a favor and use anyone else
They responded quickly as we had an immediate need due to a clogged main sewer pipe. The guys were Great! Exceptional service and very thorough. Would highly recommend Herring Sanitation for any and all septic needs.

I USED HERRING ON 11/23/2020 TO PUMP OUT MY SEPTIC SYSTEM. TOM ARRIVED FROM HERRING SANITATION. HE PUMPED OUT MY SEPTIC AND EXPLAINED THAT SEPTIC NEEDED TO BE BACKWASHED DUE TO TANK SLUDGE LAYER AT BOTTOM WAS VERY THICK. WHEN HE WAS FINISHED, I COULD ACTUALLY SEE THE BOTTOM OF THE TANK. HE GAVE ME A BRIEF LESSON ON SEPTIC TANKS AND HOW TO TAKE CARE OF IT. WHEN HE WAS FINISHED, MY SEPTIC WAS RUNNING LIKE IT WAS NEW. PLEASE NOTE THAT MY SEPTIC IS 30 YEARS OLD. IT WAS WORTH THE EXTRA MONEY. I STRONGLY RECOMMEND TOM FROM HERRING IN TAKING CARE OF YOUR SEPTIC. VERA T.

This local area-company has been nothing but stellar, for all of the years that we have used them. One of the few necessary expenses in our life, that is a breeze to deal with, thanks to this wonderful group of people...from reminders, to appointments, to service, to payment.....A++++++!!!

2021-05-28I called Herring for a Septic Inspection on a home I am in the middle of purchasing. I spoke with Steve who was great and answered all of my questions. Previously I had hired a different company for the inspection. However their report was a 1 line run-on sentence so that was a total waste of money. Within days, Herring sent out Alex and Ashlyn. They are great!! They asked tons of questions and Alex answered all of mine. So knowledgeable!! I received a professional report within hours. If you ever need a septic inspection, CALL HERRING. All around great experience and highly recommend!

2021-06-09The lack of communication and poor customer service of this company are a few of the many reasons why I will not be recommending this company to my family and friends. My fiancé and myself decided to work with this company for a septic inspection, and were charged with the amount of $225 TWICE, just for them to come out and not locate the septic tank. We were told by them that they had no luck with finding the septic and still charged us for the short amount of time they were there for. We ended up asking a family friend of ours to excavate the 2 foot deep hole that was needed to find the tanks. At this point we were not willing to pay $800 for them to excavate, as quoted !! Our family friend contractor found and excavated to locate the tank. The fact that they could not find these tanks and charged us a hefty price, is very concerning. After my fiancé and real estate agent spoke to the owner on multiple occasions, he fortunately deduct it a small dollar amount off. They also conducted a septic inspection. Very basic. This experience was very time consuming and hectic, and expensive for us as customers, for an error on their end. Next time, we will take our business elsewhere. “Spagnoli” and “Dawes” were recommended to us for the future.

2021-06-18I was charged per foot to dig up and pump my septic system. But was charged 3 times what we agreed upon due to trial and error finding the hatch. They had been here twice in the past so it should not have been an issue. Despite a rational conversation they would not budge on price for customer relations.

2016-02-05Our septic backed up into our finished basement through the laundry room and created an enormous disaster - our family is new to septic and were misinformed by another party on how often the tank needs to be pumped. Herring was here within an hour of the call to pump the tank, which they did very quickly, and the technician (Eric) was friendly and professional. The fee was very reasonable and I had no complaints.We unfortunately werent able to clear the blockage (following his instructions, designed to save us a little cash), so we called again and they had someone out here to help in about an hour - again friendly, professional, and reasonably priced. Im so grateful for the fast, efficient service, which I expected (given an emergency) to be very expensive and wasnt - Herring has a customer for life. I would recommend their service without reservation.

2017-10-09We had been experiencing septic issues for MONTHS and had four companies out before finally discovering Herring. I called them on a Friday, Jason came out immediately, diagnosed our problem and work started on Monday. Incredible! Once we got started it became obvious (even to me) the issue was bigger than it seemed. The entire side of our tank had disintegrated. Jason was able to arrange for an immediate utilities survey and obtain a tank the same day. Tuesday midday, we have a properly functioning septic system. The entire team was considerate and they left the job site in great condition. I dont give out recommendations all that often but I will be calling on Herring for any future need we may have.

2015-09-15We needed to have our septic pumped as part of our contract to close on the house we were selling in Hopewell Jct., NY. We called a company that was recommended to us, well first mistake, they showed up 4 hours late, only one person, he walked around the back yard sticking a digging bar in the ground in several places then he told us he could not locate it and quoted us an outrageous price to locate it and pump it. Ditto for the second company. We spoke to our Real Estate Agent and said we were calling Herring Sanitation, the reply was “Oh No, they look for problems to charge you more”. Well we called Herring anyway and it was the best call we ever made. We spoke to Sharon, explained the problem and she quoted us a price that would be no higher but could be lower. They went to our Hopewell Jct. House on Monday, found the septic tank and pumped it clean. They did and extraordinary job and we are very, very pleased. We would recommend Sharon and the whole Herring team to anyone that needs the service they provide. Thanks to Herring Sanitation we are closing on the sale of our house in NY.

2017-04-28Every person I spoke to at Herring from the beginning have been awesome. My fiancé & I just closed on our FIRST house a month ago and our septic failed on Sunday night. We were lost on who to call - so we immediately went to google/yelp/etc to look at local companies and find reviews. We are so happy we found Herring. The staff in the office were so easy to communicate with and were understanding of our situation (aka we new nothing about what was happening). From the guys who came to pump the septic to see if that was the problem, to John Herring who spent 3-4 hours in our basement working to discover a broken pipe, and including Jim Herring who stayed until 8:30 at night to fix our broken pipe as a temporary fix so we can use our house until we replace our tank, were nothing less than extraordinary and accommodating. Top notch service as well as making it their priority to make sure our house was in working order. Thank you Herring!
