Hertz Car Rental - Albany - Central Avenue HLE in other cities:
Sadly Hertz is flailing. I have rented from them for 5 years continuously. I have a new rental every 60 days. Always been great service and great pricing. Because of my employment I have given Hertz over 30,000 Dollars in the last five years. The last two visits have been different. On One the car smelled like weed and the second time there was only one person working the whole shop on. Friday afternoon at 3 pm. Line of customers out the whazoo.
I have rented with Hertz multiple times. Customer service is usually great, except yesterday (7/1/19 at 3:30 pm) I dropped my rental car off and the woman at the front desk was very unfriendly. She asked me if I filled the tank with gas to which I responded yes and handed her the keys. I stood there waiting for her to say Youre all set or Thanks have a good day... But she said nothing as I stood there. I asked her if I was all set, or if she wanted me to walk around the car with her to make sure all was OK. She gave me a dirty look and said no unless you want to.. It was a very strange encounter. No smile, no how was your vehicle?, no thank you, no have a nice day, nothing. At this point I walked out and left. Before I left, I was hoping to inquire about renting another vehicle in the next coming weeks but felt very unwelcome, so that did not happen. I encourage people to rent from this Hertz, but this review is to just let Hertz know that the customer service at this location could be more friendly.
Showed up having transacted online, had to wait another half an hour from our appointment time so the clerk could have a few conversations with his other staff?? Dont even know if the other people there were customers or just friends of the manager hanging out until closing. Once the chatter was over, he politely brought our dilapidated Toyota to the front. Also, website doesnt mention the $200 deposit youll also need to fork over when you pick up. Thought that was a lovely surprise too. Maybe hertz needs to train their managers a bit better, maybe its just me.
My car was smashed into in the middle of the night. Insurance company was going to cover the majority of the cost. After my initial deposit. I went through the list of insurance coverage. I told them i did not want it. After i returned the car i was billed for 300 plus for insurance. I did not want the insurance, i was lied to and they will not take it off because, i did not decline the charges. I especially remember that i did not even have enough money to pay for the insurance whilst paying for the deposit and again told the rep. That i did not want it. I did not agree and he told me he was going to remove from the billing. My card is still on hold for almost two weeks.I was screwed over for this whole situation,i over hurd a phone call, about insurance charges and a hold of the same amount of money, they screwed another customer the exact same way.
I would recommend renting from the nearby Enterprise instead of this Hertz--the customer service compared to Hertz is superior. When I made a reservation, I requested pick-up service by phone one day in advance. I was told by the customer service rep on duty that I should call back the next day by 10 am to make arrangements and I did just that. I was assured that someone would be there to pick me up at 5 pm on the dot (the distance to my location was within 10 minutes of the agency). At 5:05 pm, no one was there to pick me and I called the agency. The counter rep informed me that someone had been dispatched at 4:45 am and he was not sure why the person had not arrived. To make a long story short, I waited until 5:20 pm outside my office on a quiet, low traffic street and saw no sign of the car that I was told would be dispatched. I called the agency and informed them I would be taking the bus as I needed to leave soon for a trip and the car still had not arrived. When I arrived, the driver was sitting in the office and complained that he attempted to reach me 3 times by phone (I had been receiving calls all day, by the way) and persisted into telling me that my office building is not numbered, etc. Keep in mind, I stood outside the building in clear view for 20 minutes before calling the agency to inform them I would be taking the bus. He did not once apologize for the inconvenience. The assistant manager and another staff member stood there while this discussion took place without intervening and offering an apology. I requested a discount for the inconvenience and was told by the assistant manager that the driver would be spoken to. At that point, I was very disappointed that I had to defend myself against the driver without any mediation from the staff on duty. This should not be the experience a customer has. Recommendation: Rent from ENTERPRISE in Hannaford Plaza--the customer service reps there are extremely friendly and helpful.
I am beyond disgusted with the slimy practices at this location. My father got a rental car thru his insurance company. When we got there the woman pulled up the reservation, took my fathers credit card for a $50 deposit, had him sign an electronic pad twice and then handed us the keys. Weeks later after the car had been returned we realized they charged us $120 for God knows what. When I drove over there to speak to them, I met with attitude as they told me we were charged extra because the vehicle we drove was a class higher than what the insurance approved. I explained that we didnt get to choose the vehicle, we were assigned a Toyota camry and the clerk told us everything was covered under iesurance. Hers rep said that because we signed we agreed to pay extra...even tho no one even told us that there would be more charges. They took advantage in the most slimy way possible. Its like me going to a store to buy silver earrings. As I hand them a card to pay they swap them for diamond earrings and charge me 5 times the amount...and say well u signed so now you have to pay! Im disgusted and furious.
Love this place! The staff is great. Marcus, Zach, Tom, and Nykos are super friendly, courteous and quick to help. Im amazed how they keep the flow going between handling customer requests, the phones, and cleaning cars between visits. Ive always had a car waiting for me and whenever Ive had a problem, they always make it right. Ive been renting here for several years now and dont bother going anywhere else. The team here is top notch!
The customer service was good and the staff were very helpful. I would definitely rent next time, but the only drawback was that they do not have much full size vehicles. They would always give me a Hyundai Sonata or Nissan Altima with which I really had many bad experiences. I would definitely appreciate them if they could find different full size cars apart from these two.
They have horribly trained agents. When I got the car the agent asked me if I wanted to pre pay for the fuel. I asked him if I will be refunded for the balance if I returned with fuel in the tank and he said yes, which I later found out was against company policy. I ran out of fuel and filled up the tank but ended up returning the car next day. I wasnt given the refund and was given the run around. On top of that, I returned the car within 4 days but they entered the time wrong and charged me for an extra day. Horrible experience!!!
Great Car Purchase - Rent to buy Program- Great Car Buy!!!!! In 2016, I bought my car from Hertz (2015 Compass Jeep). As a rental, it appeared that it was maintained well. Purchasing through the rent to buy program was ideal for me. The purchasing process can be lengthy (about 2 months), but who cares? I wasnt being charged for the rent to buy vehicle during that time. Furthermore, they were responsible for upkeep. The NYS inspection expired and they paid to update. And, due to my concerns, they paid for a comprehensive check of my car (no charge), too. Two years later, Im still loving the car and it continues to run beautifully! Thanks Hertz!!!
I needed a rental vehicle rather quickly I called Friday morning to multiple rental places in the area. I finally got ahold of one that told me I would be good Im getting a car that same day. Being the insurance company was paying for the claim I had to contact the insurance company and the rental agent numerous times which took up most of my day. I was frustrated I called back within 20 minutes letting the gentleman know I was on my way he had left so I spoke with someone else who advised me the reservation was never put in for me and there are no available cars at all I was freaking because I was leaving the next morning for a trip to Buffalo. I called hertz at 40 Lodge Street and spoke with Mike. The man was amazing! He not only got me a car but he waited after his shift to make sure that I made it there on time when I got a little lost. Every day that I had to call and extend the reservation he had already done it for me and just made my life so much easier I definitely recommend if you need a rental going through Hertz at 40 Lodge Street in Albany New York I will use them again in the future for sure
My car got wrecked and is in the shop for three weeks. First I got a Versa. Didn’t like it. Then I traded it for a Sentra, which I also didn’t like. Employees were nice about letting me trade it for a third vehicle, a Kia Soul, which I’m very happy with. Clean, well mainta
WORST hertz company ever. Billed $600 dollars because the manager Chris, said he saw cigarette ashes in the back. I rented the car for one day. Something that shouldve costed 50 bucks was overcharged an additional 550 dollars. I will never rent from here and recommend you boycott this company too they look for reasons to place an additional $300 dollar bill on you. Its sick twisted and bad business pratice. Also staff except for one guy in the front is extremely rude.
This place sucks......I have dealt with them twice and both times was a disaster......I had a rental this time for 3 weeks which was paid for by insurance company because of an accident....I paid a $50 returnable deposit......well I go to cash my check and there is a $303 hold on my account from Hertz Rental......I call and have to wait 15 minutes for Todd the manager to get on the phone and tell me it was a smoking fee. Well Todd I dont smoke and there was no ashes in the vehicle and I cleaned the car out with bleach and filled the tank up.....I think this is just a way for them to keep your money.........You can go to any car wash on Central Ave and have your car cleaned out for $25.00.....$300 please, you can kiss where the sun doesnt shine!!!!!!!!!
Literally always put me on hold and then forget they put me on hold. I just waited over 20 minutes on hold. They have done this before and then after waiting for so long they picked up the phone and hung up the call. Every time I go there it’s empty, so I don’t see what the issue is.

2022-04-14I work for a local collision center. Hertz NEVER picks up their vehicles unless we threaten to tow the vehicle. Ive been calling for 3 weeks for them to come get a car off our lot and they will literally pick up the phone , you can hear talking in the background, and hang up. We do not recommend them to ANY of our customers due to this HORRIBLE customer service.

2022-06-23Absolutely terrible location. Take it from your local collision center, do not go to this location! Called about 5 times in a row today and was hung up on every time like someone was answering the phone and hanging up just to make the phone stop ringing. The Latham location was quick to answer and take care of a customer for us. Go there instead.

2022-04-14HORRIBLE location. AWFUL customer service. STEER CLEAR AT ALL COSTS. They pick up the phones (you can hear people in the background) and then hang up. I have tried calling 3 times in a row today alone and this happened every single time.

2021-09-27The WORST people ever.My second flight to westchester had been canceled the day before and I had been trapped in NC overnight. Albany was the only airport available that was within 2 hours of my end destination but I needed a rental car and there were none available. Finally I reserved one through Hertz but my flight was a little late getting in. The Hertz office was going to close in 10 minutes and I was 10 minutes away. I called the Hertz office and finally got someone on the line and begged him not to leave until I got there. The guy said he was leaving at 5 on the dot and would not wait. He had a life. I explained that was flying in to help my mother post surgery and begged him not to leave me stranded. Finally he said he would wait. When I pulled up at Hertz it was closed. He had completely lied to me. But then a Hertz employee came to the door. Wonderful, I said, thank you so much. No I can’t help you, he said, I’m not in uniform. But I spoke to someone on the phone, I said. Oh that was the other guy… he’s coming back, he’ll help you. You promise? I asked. He looked me straight in the eye and promised. No one ever came back. That guy deliberately lied to my face so he could leave and not help. I sat there for another 20 minutes without any clue as to what to do.Then a fellow traveler found out that Enterprise was open just around the corner. When I pulled up to enterprise they were leaving but without hesitation they opened the door for me with a smile and asked how they could help. The entire crew stayed open an extra hour on a Friday so that they could help us. There had been three travelers that Hertz had stranded. Enterprise helped all of us with a smile and the greatest kindness. They even found me a one-way car even though it was against policy. If ever there was a model for customer service of the highest caliber it would be these guys. I have no way to repay them except with my utmost thanks. To everyone there at Enterprise: thank you again! You guys are wonderful!

2020-12-14I have been renting from this place for a few years now never an issue until this past weekend. The car was awful and not cleaned obviously. I had no time to get a new rental because i had somewhere to be. They gave me the car half a tank and on topOf that i still haven’t received my deposit. I just want to say Erick was very nice and if Jennifer the other employee who was too concerned about her being “Too pretty to be working” left the poor guy when she could have helped. Its reaching the end of day and still no deposit this has never happened to me before. I am so unhappy with the customer service that was provided and I’ll be reaching out to cooperate if this doesn’t get resolved ! I just want my deposit and that’s it !

2021-08-19Look at the number of 1-star reviews at this location and youll see that theres a major problem here. I was going to be arriving close to closing time, so I tried calling their number...it always went to voice mail, and when I finally got to a person, before I could tell them Id be a few minutes late, they said Please hold for a moment and then I was on hold until I arrived at the store, and it was closed, locked. They ghosted me on hold. Who does that? What kind of business leaves a customer on hold and locks the doors? So I was stranded in the middle of Albany, with no car, the only option to go back to the airport and pay 4x the price. So if youre hoping to save a few dollars from the airport prices, Im sorry, youre not going to do it with this location. Pick a different rental car company entirely.

2021-01-17The worst rental car company on earth. Have been renting from Hertz for 20 years. I booked a car online at this location with my debit card, as it plainly states they take it. When I arrived to pick up the car I was told that the debit card I was using had to be in their system for at least 24 hours? Huh? I booked a rental last night for this. Morning. Makes no sense. Plus were gold members and they could care less so I went next door to Enterprise and left there 15 minutes later with a great car at a better price. Hertz has gone down hill. They used to be a good company. Ive even worked for them previously. But the last few rentals have been nothing but huge headaches anyway, even before this incidence. Enterprise is now my go-to rental company. Way less headaches. See ya Hertz.

2021-07-15Reserved a car, got there and they said they didnt actually have the car available. Took my number and said theyd call when it was ready which never happened, they then wouldnt pick up the phone when I tried to call to change my plan. If I could give them 0 stars I would

2021-03-13The worst customer service, one of the representative was constantly interrupting (White Caucasian guy with shaved hair). The guy who was helping me had his Tinder on,right in front of me swiping left and right while trying to help me. Professionalism at its lowest level.
