Hertz Car Rental - Middle Village - Metropolitan Avenue HLE in other cities:
They rented me a car that was illegal to drive (expired registration), and said that I would have to call customer service to get a refund - essentially saying I will have to spend my time to clean up their mistake. While I dont doubt that frontdesk person does not have the ability/clearance to issue refunds, pretty insane to say its on the customers time to clean up their illegal mistake.
Our reservation is at 10:30, but when we came in on time to pickup a car, there were more than 10 ppl in a line in front of us. Only one person working at the register, filling out some forms for at least 15 minutes per person( why do you need to fill out everything again if all info was provided during reservation? It is 2021, not 1985). It’s been 1 hour already and still 6 people in front of me. Also, if you know that so many people will show up at the same time to pickup cars, bring another person in!!!? It is as simple as that!!!! Unacceptable and never ever use Hertz again.Update: It took a little over 2 hours to finally get a car with uncleaned bird poop on a window and non working phone charger. Thank you Hertz!Update #2: Great, there was no window washer fluid in a car. Found it while driving. This is serious safety violation! Hopefully wheels wont fall off on the way back. Good job Hertz!
Hertz is about to ruin my credit over a bill I never received:On August 19 2020 I rented a car from Hertz (under Ashley Stearns) from this location. Just before returning it on August 19, 2020, someone scraped the side of the car while it was parked and did not leave contact information. I filed a Vehicle Incident Report with Hertz and gave them my insurance information. I was told that Hertz Claims would take the case forward, however I never heard from them after filing the report. I rented again from Hertz in June 2021 and there was no mention of me having any sort of balance due.In September 2021 I received a call from First Financial Asset Management claiming they were collecting a debt for Hertz for $774.60. I asked them for a copy of the bill which he said they could not provide. I called Hertz Claims department immediately afterwards and they said the bill had not yet been sent to collections, and they could see I had an amount due. I asked why I wasnt sent a bill via mail, email, or phone, and the Hertz rep said the bill likely got lost in the mail but could not give me a date of when it was sent. He did not have any record of Hertz trying to reach me via email (where I received the incident report) or by phone. He said they would email me a repair estimate and demand letter within 2 business days and verified my email address. I never received this email. I have called the claims department an additional 5 times and left voicemails but no one has called me back. FFAM is now calling me multiple times a week and sent me a letter saying I need to pay them by 11/29/21. I still have not seen a bill from hertz and cannot reach anyone in the claims department.I am shocked that after being a Hertz customer for 10 years that they are about to ruin my excellent credit over a bill I never received. Needless to say I will never be renting from them again.
I dont like leaving nasty reviews, but feel like I have no choice in this case. PLEASE stay away. Spend more to avoid this place if necessary. Why?1) Passenger seat and dash had three large dark spots on them which I noticed shortly after driving it off the lot. Wiped it down with Clorox, and it became evident that it was blood. I proceeded with the rental without returning to the rental place to exchange the car, as I was out of time and able to clean it myself with relative ease.2) Fast forward three days. I dropped off the car, the agent in the lot said everything looks good and I left. But before I got home, I had a 400 dollar cleaning charge appear on my credit card, which was very surprising, as I returned the car in much better shape than I collected it (I even cleaned up BLOOD that their expert cleaning team missed...)! I immediately called to see what was going on with the charge, and was informed by the corporate customer service agent that the car had been assessed and that it smelled like cigarettes. Interesting, as I dont smoke, nor did anyone who was in or even near the car at any time during the rental. If this were some other kind of cleaning, id be able to ask for photos from them as proof, but unfortunately you cant photograph a smell. How very convenient. I have a strong hunch this is a scam that this Hertz branch runs often.3) After pleading with customer service for recourse, I was repeatedly told that there was nothing they could do to reverse the charge, and after begging to speak to a manager, I was eventually hung up on by the agent.I am at a total loss on this one. I will file a complaint with the BBB and dispute the charge with my credit card company. I really hope no one else has to go through this nonsense. AVOID this place like the plague.TLDR: Received a car with blood all over it. Cleaned it myself and returned car in cleaner shape than when rented. Was scammed out of 400 dollars for a cleaning fee. Was hung up on by customer service. Absolute disgrace.
If I can, I will give 0 star!!! We had THE WORSE experience while renting from this location!!!First, it took us TWO HOURS to get our car (reservation 10:30am, waited in line and got car at 12:30pm) while we had all our info in your computer system when booking and checked in before picking up the car but still WAITED for our car exactly TWO hours. We HAD TO cancel our NEXT destination appointment because of this situation which is UNACCEPTABLE!The car WAS NOT CLEAN NOR SANITIZED! There were a huge chunk of bird poop on the window, the car charger was BROKEN, there is NO windshield washer fluid in our car which was SUPER dangerous while driving when needed!!! The customer service at the counter was RUDE AND VERY SLOW.We will NEVER rent from Hertz especially from THIS LOCATION! DEF will tell ALL our friends, coworkers and family DONT rent from this place!
Charged a random $400 cleaning fee for completely unproven reason. Smell of cigarettes, for a non-smoker. Customer service was a complete disgrace, spent days on the phone for the usual nothing we can do. No investigation, no proof. Absolute zero value for customers. Save yourselves some money and go elsewhere.
We rented a car but when we got there there were about 15 people in front of us. It took forever. We waited about 3 hours, and when we got to the front of the line they had run out of cars. Even though we had rented one! There was only one person working there the whole time. I would rate it 0 stars if I could, considering we didnt even get the car in the end.
Wish I could give zero stars. The absolute worst customer service experience I’ve had in a LONG time. I made a reservation online and when I got there, the car that I reserved was gone. When I reluctantly agreed to a smaller vehicle, they wouldn’t accept the card that I had paid with online and wouldn’t manually input another card. When I offered to take an Uber home to get another card at my own expense, they said that they wouldn’t hold a car for me.They were unhelpful, had zero problem solving abilities, seemed to not care about customers at all, and were unapologetic about the whole experience.Do yourself a favor and go ANYWHERE else.
Worst rental car experience of my life. They charged me cleaning fee of 300 $ when car needed simple vaccume (imagine that) for left over bread crumbs and they did not even let me use their vaccume. This was a clear sefiance of their own cleaning policy. I would never in future rent with Hertz at this or any other location anywhere in world. I recommend same to everybody as well. They seem truly ill prepared and had non existent customer service. Line was down the block. Lot was over filled. I was waiting for an hour to complete a return. No one came to tend to the many customers on the line. I called Hertz customer service and was assured that for the inconvenience there would be no changes in my fees (I changed drop off locations). And yet the location tacked on a $200 inner city fee. As a Gold customer I am appalled. And I will be rethinking utilizing Hertz again after exclusively renting from them for the last 7 years.
Showed up to pick up my car (prepaid); zero cars on the lot. After having me wait outside for 75 minutes, they drove me all the way to LaGuardia. There were at least 4 other people who also had reservations who did not get a car. By the time I got my car, it was 2 1/2 hours after I arrived....and I was at LaGuardia during rush hour. When I asked about getting any kind of compensation (a credit, an upgrade, etc.) they just said no. Like, I get that not having a car might not be their fault, but not offering any kind of compensation is ridiculous, especially for a prepaid rental. Driving customers in a car with other people they don’t know during a pandemic also seems risky. Do not recommend using this Hertz
Costumer service is not so great. Returned the car 2 min late and I called ahead that traffic was a mess, yet they used those 2 min to charge extra fees. In my eyes they are just being greedy. Store manager came up with interesting excuses that they couldnt look into the matter. Not again with Hertz!
This location is horrible. I went to drop my rental car off on 9/22/18 and was asked to leave because they wanted to close 90 minutes early. The guy was rude and extremely unprofessional. They refused to give me a bill. He told me not to worry about anything, that it goes through my insurance. Here we are 32 days later and they are charging my credit card Without my authorization.
Expect to give up any choice in vehicle, and having a clean quality vehicle for the convenience of going to this local Hertz branch (rather than an airport location). However, that is not even the reason I am giving them one star.Hertz car rental prices are often competitive, so it may be hard to avoid this place all together. Hopefully this review will at least let you know what to expect. The employees at this location are a nightmare to deal will, a true customer service disaster! Just to return (drop off) a car, I had to sit in their dirty/smelly office for 25 minute until a staff member would help me. They have zero sense of urgency about anything while there was a whole line of people trying to return vehicles. The real kicker is after the employee inspected the car and started the check out process, he told me I owed $40 more than I should have. When I inquire as to why he told me I picked up the vehicle 2 hours earlier then I actually did. I showed him the inspection email, which I received immediately at the time of check out but he refused to accept that. Then I also showed him I didnt even make the reservation until 12:10pm (on the same day as pick up) yet he was insisting I picked up the car at 11am! I kid you not! He then consulted with the other staff member, who basically accused me of lying. After arguing with both of them for close to 30 minutes one of these morons suddenly realized they were trying to check me out for someone elses rental. The staff member who actually made the mistake then told me it was my fault for his mistake and laughed about it. Seriously!What a disaster this location and staff are!!!STAY AWAY IF AT ALL POSSIBLE!!
Stress free experience. The car selection could be larger, but given that location isnt that big to begin with, it wasnt much of a problem. The car I received was very clean and gave me no issues on the 500 mile trip I took. I had not one single problem with customer service. Will be renting from here again very soon.
I have rented from many different locations and companies and this one has the least customer service. The female staff member i first spoke to over the phone to rent was lacking business phone skills. After calling several times with no answer she picked up and told me i had to call back in 40 minutes. Hmm i ignored my gut and i did call back as its close to home... reserved for next day pick up. Upon arriving next day.... a female staff member (not sure if same one) was not friendly as typically expected. When communicating witb male staff member she spoke instructions to him in a non professional manner. While i stayed behind at desk my husband went to check out car with the male worker - he was professional friendly and answered my husbands questions with respect and didnt seem bothered at all. On the inside she seemed annoyed at my questions. She stopped processing my rental and abruptly told me to sit down. No reason why or how long to wait. Turns out she had a scheduled conference call.... perhaps she could have said that and indicated length of wait. Waited 15 minutes for her to finish call. Then Transaction finished.Upon returning vehicle although it should have been opened location closed...door had a sign saying we are open but out helping another customer. No time indicated when they would return. I waited almost 30 minutes and there were five of us waiting for her.Overall not a great feeling - i probably wouldnt rent from hertz again as three different interactions on three different days and customer service was way below average at best.Location is great, the car was clean and the male worker did meet the customer service standards we expect.Its a shame the female worker seemed to be having a bad day times three....
I made a reservation online for 6pm. I came at 6pm and the woman sitting at the desk had locked the door prior to 6p and wouldn’t give me the car. I don’t live close to here and needed the car tonight, so this is an incredible inconvenience. I’m not sure that I understand how her getting to go home 5 minutes early is OK customer service. I expected better of Hertz.
Worst car rental place ever.I already booked a rental in advance. We explained to them how I lost my credit card. Luckily, my friend had her own credit card to finalise the booking. But then they said because the credit name doesnt match the drivers license we cannot complete the booking.We even tried showing my friends passport to prove that she was the owner of the credit card. Only the last name was different on the drivers licence. Everything else clearly matched, including the photo on both IDs.Honestly, you guys are pathetic.
I wish I could give it zero stars, Stay away from this location. Seems like workers there have no idea what they are doing, charge you extra and dont want to give money back so be careful before you sign anything if decided to go there. Highly not recommended location, management sucks same as employees. And if you reserve extra stuff like car-seat they either say they dont have it once you there and send you to another location or give you defective one. Definitely will not rent from this location again and hopefully you read this before renting.
We really like the Hertz location in Middle Village, NY. It was close to home and we appreciated their customer service. Anythime we requested an extension they were very accommodating. We were given a nice new model car very clean, ran smooth, & excellent on gas. We highly recommend.
Worst ever, please do not go here. Every time you call they put you on hold for 10-15 mins. I return my rental since 7/3/18 and it’s 7/31/18 and I can not have a copy of my paid invoice from them to submit to my insurance company. They are rude and very unhelpful. This place should be close not open because the service is bad. I will never go here again and trust me if you see any bad reviews on this place, I promise you it is true.
The woman I assumed to be the manager sitting at a desk straight up lied to me. I dont know exactly why, but I was trying to do a rental exchange because I had driven a 12 passenger van from Texas to New York, and wanted a smaller car to drive back. She said that all the cars in the lot either needed an oil change or had dog hair all over inside. I told her Id take a car with dog hair and she said, Uh-uh! I was then told to call Hertz Emergency service and tell them my van was undriveable and I needed a replacement car. I dont know if she didnt want the van, didnt want to give up one of her vehicles to take back to Texas, or if maybe I was just plain discriminated against. The reason I know she was lying to me was because there were several cars available when I looked online to reserve one.AVOID THIS CROOKED PLACE!!!
I live in Bushwick and used to get rentals at jfk or laguardia but this location is so much better for four reasons:Its crazy closeIts almost always cheaperThey are incredibly fast for pickup and drop offThey are the nicest people ever.Only downfall is some of the cars are in worse shape than others, but thats not really an issue for me. Keep up the good work guys- you make a usually stressful endeavor really pleasant!
I used to rent from Hertz about 20 times a year once I used this location, and they were so rude and unprofessional that I just stopped using hertz all together, they lied to me to my face when I confronted them they said straight up we do not care about you, and as you can see from other reviews I believe I`m am not the only one with a bad experience here
They are the worst place to rent a car, very rude manager, it took me 2 and half hours to get the car, and then i saw that they overcharged me instead of charging $35 per day, they charged me $135, and when I called in they said i have to come down and return the car, and re-rent it, in order to fix their computer glitch, and they could not refund me for the day that passed.
They did the job, were polite enough, and upgraded me effortlessly when they didn’t have the vehicle class I was looking for. Just keep your eyes open for fuel charges etc when you return the car; I’m not blaming anyone in particular but I was charged for a tank of gas after I had already returned the car full.

2022-03-26The best customer service I have received from a car rental. It was my husbands birthday and we were going away. I made a request and lady I spoke to surprised us with the request. She was very courteous and accommodating I have gone to so many car rental and this location is by far the best. My husband and I are extremely pleased each time we rent here. The prices are great the people who work there are amazing. I will be returning 100000%

2022-07-05No one likes going to the rental car counter. It’s stressful. Sometimes they try to upsell you. Charge your insurance you probably don’t need. And you’re probably rushing or tired or both and just want to get out of there.I love Hertz for this reason. They actually try to make it faster and easier. But of all the Hertz locations in the country that I’ve visited for business and pleasure, this one is one of the best.Jojo is amazing and cool and makes this experience so much less stressful. She is also the hardest worker I’ve ever seen at a Hertz. On a Saturday of July 4th weekend, she was running the whole operation on her own (literally no one there to help her). She was checking folks in, cleaning and moving cars, and doing an incredible job with customers. Prompt, efficient, and cool. She’s a true gem and needs a promotion and a raise for her follow-through and quality.

2022-02-23In the end I got a car I am ok with and got my trip going. But not because the staff at this location did their jobs well. Everyone who came in while I was there had to come back in multiple times to try and work things out. They didnt have the car we ordered. Then the second car was still dirty and the windshield wipers didnt work. Luckily we didnt leave because the guy left the car cranked but didnt leave the keys in it. He also didnt tell us the car was so called ready when he came in and went it the back for a while. When they desided to change the car out they couldnt tell me about the other car just wanted me to know. But hopefully all is well but I wonder if anyone manages this location or pays any attention.

2022-03-15Made a reservation with hertz through their actual website ( not a third party) and when we got there from the airport they said they didn’t have any cars for us to rent. which wouldn’t have been a problem if we were walk-ins but we had reserved it AND made a $50 trip here from the airport for the manager to be texting on her phone the entire time we were trying to talk to her about our problem. very unprofessional and will not be coming back.

2022-03-26They opened late, were incredibly rude and unprofessional, did not have the car I reserved, did not have information about when it would be available, refused to refund me or assist in cancelling the reservation, and supposedly required a credit card with a certain limit which I did not have on my person because of the hold for their available cars was much higher than my original reservation price. The woman who assisted me this morning was so rude and dismissive, I felt compelled to write this. I tried to call Hertz, as she recommended, and was informed it would cost me to speak with someone and complain or request a refund. Overall garbage service.

2022-01-03DO NOT rent from this location!I was charged 400$ cleaning fee for (some) pet hair in the back seat.The car I received was already full of mud on the exterior and I have been told that I can clean it and bring back the receipt. Yes... In my own free time.The manager was very rude when I was asking to see the contract and the fee that might be applied. Of course, the contract does not mention the amount of the “cleaning fee”.After I was reading more reviews I realized that this whole thing is a SCAM that they try in many different versions from smoking smell to pet hair to bread crumbs and bloodstains.AVOID THIS LOCATION.AVOID HERTZ.
