Hickories Park in other cities:
Best dog park in the area! Its beautiful and its really big. There is a small dog area, a big dog area(which is huge), and an area for training dogs like a little dog playground lol my beagle loves this park and its fun to go there I couldnt believe how nice it was the first time I went there I was really impressed.
Had a nasty encounter with one of the volunteers today before this we always loved your park we have met many great people and dogs .now we will no longer come . I was told my 5 month old puppy should not be around other dogs .I dont understand this at all . I then asked her why she said your being ignorant lady...I was shocked .I then asked her what her name was and she yelled pat and I dont give a S..t if u turn me in Im the boss i run this place ...other volunteers we have met are wonderful .very disappointed and upset
This is a nice, simple, no frills park. Mostly wide open grassy areas with few trees and nice views overlooking the Susquehanna river. Great for walking, biking, or flying model airplanes. There are multiple pavilions and a nice playground for kids. The eastern part of the park has camp sites for tents and trailers and the north part has a very nice dog park with three sections; small dogs, large dogs, and an agility course. If you like wild hickory nuts and black walnuts, visit in the fall. You can pick them up off the ground, if the squirrels dont get them first. :-) The only down side is that the park is a bit noisy due to the nearby route 17.
Wonderful park. They do not take reservations and there are way too many seasonal taking up sites even though they are not using their camper. Rates are very good and the staff are friendly. Recommend ... but be prepared to boondoggle it because full hook up sites are monopolized by under utilized camp sites by the local seasonal folks.
Large community park with a dog park, playground, and tons of green space. The highlight is the campground. Nice open sites with water sewer and electric for $25 a night. They dont take reservations. So 1st come 1st served. This is only an issue on holiday weekends. If staying over a holiday, just come on Wednesday or Early Thursday and youll find a site. The staff is nice, and the place is well kept. The sites arent very private, but I dont mind at all. The more campgrounds I stay at, the more I appreciate the Hickories.EDIT, 2021 Update: The hickories park is just as good as ever, still one of my favorite campgrounds. The issue is availability now. There are often few sites left if arriving later in the week. I would suggest calling ahead to confirm what sites are open. They still do not have reservations, however Scott (Park mamager) is usually able to answer any questions and let you know what sites are open. Speaking of Scott, he has always been extremely helpful, and is always working hard to keep the park in great shape.
Little gem right off the highway. Run by the city, this nice campground is right on the river. It has grassy sites, with not a lot of space between them. But we camped in the fall and it was gorgeous and handy for us as an overnight spot on our travels. We enjoyed the friendly host, and lots of happy dogs. There is a dog park in the same park as the campground!
One of the nicer parks in the area. It’s of a quite decent size and is very suitable for large events. There are many pavilions and also fields for sports, a basketball court, and paved roads for children to ride bikes and scooters. It has a little creek and is also right next to the Susquehanna river.
Wonderful park with plenty of safe, paved walking/running trails. Right by the river, you can stroll through the grass to enjoy the scenes or walk on the paved walking lanes to get your steps in. Plenty of camping space and during the summer it really fills up with RVs. Last time we were there (End of July 2019) the water fountains were not working though, so be prepared to bring your our water or stop by McDonalds on the way in for tap water.
Nicely kept park in Owego NY, sitting alongside the Susquehanna river. Open fields, playground, dog park adjacent, open camping area for campers, rvs and tents, picnic tables and pavilions available, pedestrian lane around the maine field, bathrooms could use some major updating. Seems like a safe, family friendly park.
The park itself is great. Very nice place to go. Its all the people that go there and rent year round that seem to think they own the park that are the issue. We had many issues of people trying to claim things in a public park because they are there all summer. Watch out for the park commandos, theyre certainly watching for you because they have such insignificant fulfilment from their own lives they have to try to make other people feel small to make themselves feel bigger. Pathetic.
This Park is kept clean and well groomed. A free Park for one day of quiet walks in a grassy area or low cost overnight camping. RV are welcome. This Park also has a dog park area so your pets can run and socialize with new friends. Hickories has a garbage policy of you bring it in, you must take it out with you.
Very well maintained park. There is a dog park, huge fields for any type of outdoor games including kite flying, campgrounds (these you’d need to pay for), and even shower and bathroom facilities on site. There is no swimming anywhere in this park, and it is a carry-in-carry-out park. Please bring bags with you to remove your garbage and recyclables
We love bringing our RV here during the offseasons and on weekdays. Theres a crowd of regulars who congregate for the summer and make outsiders feel unwelcome and uncomfortable.Otherwise its both beautiful and serene with clean facilities, friendly staff, and fairly reasonable rates.Another reviewer mentioned the social climate at the Hickories as well. When we came midsummer, we were made to feel like we had crashed a private party. We were surrounded by people who had spent the entire summer together at this campground and we were definitely not welcomed. Apparently a bunch of coworkers from some nearby company come and really settle in. They surround their RVs (way beyond the bounds of their campsites) with dog enclosures, tents, attachments (some even grow gardens!). There was even one family flying a political flag and others who set up things like birdfeeders, lampposts and windchimes. Charming and homey for a summer cabin, but this is supposed to be camping. I couldve stayed home for this atmosphere! I camp to be in nature and get away from suburbia - not to have it be recreated around me. They all gather for a community campfire every night (to which we were not invited).None of this would actually bother me but for the fact that these are unfriendly and entitled people who treat this like it is their private property and others are intruders.I prefer to go off season when the summer crowd breaks camp and goes back home. (I actually believe there are one or two who live there year round, because they have decks built around their RV.)Its a shame that something thats meant for everyone to enjoy has been co-opted by a large group who treat it like its their private property.
Beautiful camping park. Walking paths throughout. Great for families or older couples. Great green spaces, very well maintained. People are friendly. Park is pet friendly and has one of the finest pet parks on site I have ever seen. Showers are clean and well kept. July has bands playing every wednesday. Close to other activities. It is right on the river for fishing and boating. We have truly enjoyed our stay and much more reasonable than a KOA or other campsites.
I used to come here all the time growing up camping almost every weekend. The sites are pretty big, but sites are also first come first serve. Ive Never Camped down in the Overflow area, down by the music tent. Theres always regulars here every year. And this place constantly floods, almost every year theyve got it to work to get it open back up again. But its so big I hope they never close it. My reason for four stars is because only until recently has it been more accessible to find if theyre closed or not due to flooding or weather.
We stayed here for a week at the campground which was a pleasant surprise to find considering it is a city managed facility. The sites were capacious, and have upgraded, newer services such as 50-amp full hook up. It was generally quiet through the week, and as we approached the weekend, weekender local campers came out. There were only 2 flaws in my opinion: the first being they dont take reservations according to whomever we spoke to on the phone, yet when we arrived, we found campsite occupied signs being moved around to various sites. That hardly seemed fair. Coming in from 1200 miles away and with no real destination campgrounds to choose from in the area as a fall back for our size rig, this does not make you feel good on approach. Second, the campground had a lot of locals driving through the campground, many were less than on the up and up looking which presented a safety concern should we decide to take a day trip. We didnt feel safe or confident in leaving our rig unattended which naturally attracts a lot of attention due to its size.

2021-09-15Weve been coming here after Labor Day for a few weeks every year for many years. Its a great park, & it used to be easy to find a spot then but now its almost impossible, even on a weekday! The park doesnt have a reservation system, its owned by the Town of Owego. Spots are available on a first come basis. However, now RVers from the south & locals are coming in the spring and staying all summer, even into the fall, as the park allows seasonal camping. We were able to get one of two spots left!I walked around the camping area very early this morn (5 AM, Tuesday 9/14/21) and a third of the RVs were unoccupied. I suppose at $25 a nite its a cheap way to store your RV for the summer. The town would do other campers a favor by limiting half the sites to a max of 2 weeks.
