High Rock Park in other cities:
High Rock is an American Classic,. Most Staten Islanders Take it for Granted, and NEVER go!So it is Not Crowded and has ... Benches & Tables. Spectacular views of Nature. Wonderful trails and picnic area. The Park is Accessible to the Public easily with Ample parking and Rest area. The Wooded area is perfect for beginer Hiking and Jogging. A very peaceful Park not to be missed or taken for granted of. P.S.Bring your camera -F .Esposito
Bigger place than I thought, a lot to explore. Spacious enough that you can expect to not see other people around too much which is great if you want a more private experience on your hike or picnic or whatever it is you want to do there by yourself or with friends or family. Its bike friendly and pet friendly. A lot of beautiful scenery including creeks, marshes, steep rocky inclines & dense forested areas. Be prepared to have the necessary defense against ticks and mosquitos, eg. Long pants, bug spray.
The park is gorgeous, there are numerous species of trees that you dont normally encounter in the streets of NY, it is also a good bird watching place. There is a lot to discover for nature lovers. However, the more people started coming over the years, the more polluted it became. Please, visitors, take your trash out with you!
Its amazing because, I lived in Staten Island, I was born in 1990, And lived here in Staten Island, mostly South Shore of Staten Island, from 1990 to 2001. In 2001 I moved to New Jersey, not too far away from the Outerbridge Crossing. I then moved back to Staten Island, to Annadale, in 2012, and then back to Jersey same year and back to Staten Island in 2013. Then, from Annadale I moved to New Dorp. I lived on New Dorp Lane and Richmond Road corner. When I was a young boy living in Annadale, I was a trailblazer, an explorer, yet, surprisingly, I had NEVER heard of this location and trail. It took until AFTER I moved away from New Dorp town area in 2015 that I discovered High Rock Park. I took a date there as a romantic hike , and boy, was I pleAsed with this location. It doesnt take much hiking and climbing to get to the top, the summit of High Rock, but when you do, oh boy it is breathtaking and amazing. We went in Autumn and the view was amazing with brown green orange purple red and yellow leaves everywhere. It was straight up awe enspiring and I would suggest anyone to visit it.
High Rock Park is part of the green belt and its all connected. its like going to the Adirondack Mountains right here on Staten Island. however you must be careful of tics because theres plenty of deer roaming around. so you always have to be mindful of the possibility of getting Lyme disease.

2022-06-06If the weather is too hot, a nice place to walk with all the trees around. Follow designated colored paths marked on the tree trunks. Tables are located in the entrance if you want to rest or if you brought food.BUG SPRAY IS A MUST. take note of the closing of the gate in the afternoon. Have fun.

2020-06-30Its ok wasnt the greatest.Trail wasnt clear. Lots of bugs, particularly mosquitoes, gnats ect. Was my first time with bulk of my walkin the northeast entrance on Staten Island Blvd entrance. Only got to entrance to moses mountain. Next time will start in the middle of park. The lake was really nice and breezy before sunset. Will definitely consider it for mountain biking though.

2017-06-06The best kept secret on Staten Island. Come here to get away and take a quiet walk or run. Trails are always maintained and safe. Grab a map and go already.

2021-07-07A great place for a quick walk through the woods. Decent elevation changes to get the heart rate up, and some pretty water features to look at. Complete with bathrooms and running water to refill your canteen. Overall not bad for a park that can make you feel as if youve completely stepped out of the city.
