Highbridge Park in other cities:
Absolutely love this park. It sits at a higher elevation, allowing for great views of the surrounding areas. Lush with trees and with unpaved, sometimes non-existent walk paths, it makes you feel like youre in a forest until you hear and see the road traffic beneath the park. There are natural exposed rocks like the ones in Central Park. The autumn colors are amazing, similar to the famed foliage of New England. There is a path to an aqueduct-style walk bridge, which you can cross to get to the Bronx.
I grew up in Washington Heights from the late 80s till 2008. The bridge and everything behind Highbridge pool was always closed, full of stolen cars and homeless people its great to see that they have cleaned up everything and made walking paths for people to enjoy the history thats back there
This nostalgic historical bridge that has been refurbished is an ideal unobstructed method to commute from the Bronx to Manhattan. The ability to walk, jog, or ride a bike without worrying about car fumes is refreshing during the day. There are a few benches to sit and watch the boats riding along the river. The only safety concern is that once you walk the bridge from the Bronx towards the Manhattan path, there are no lights to guide you once it gets dark. People have been seen using flashlights and walking accompanied to avoid traversing alone; although the bridge is closed and not accessible approximately after 8pm.
Its a nice little park to sit down and take in the view or a nice stroll across the bridge. You get an excellent view of the Harlem River, the Major Deegan highway or Harlem River drive. During the early days of summer is the best time to walk the bridge because of the cool evening time and the amazing sunset view from the bridge.
Off the beaten path less used park, great connection over to the Bronx via Highbridge pedestrian overpass. Also a low traffic alternative throughfare and nice way to avoid the hills of the westside on the Harlem River Path. Lastly there are dirt jumps and legal mountain bike trails in here actual elevation and some interesting runs, wouldnt want to fall in here alotta strange items on the side of the trails nonetheless very cool.
Very clean pool. The only problem was that ever few minutes the kids were finding rusty nails all over the pool. Mostly in the little ones section. Fortunately no one stepped on any of them. Oh and my bathing suit was stained by the rust on the grates at the edge of the pool. Aside from that, all staff we encountered were nice.
Highbridge park is beautiful, but it could use some improvements. I know the city has been working to update some of it, Ive seen the updates. But I wished there were plans to add more garbage cans. Maybe it would I courage people not to litter there. It used to be an easy 5 stars park but people have been leaving their garbage everywhere. I see the odd garbage can is being used because its full. We all need to do our part.
Highbridge Park, a wonderful quiet hideaway that my dog and I enjoy everyday!! Has a great trail that goes up to a walkable bridge that lets you end up in the Bronx. The scenery along the trail is awesome and peaceful...My dog, PETRA loves running and sniffing every part of the woods!! Bring your dog and lets enjoy them enjoying nature in the middle of Manhattan!!
Thats my mountain bike there in the pictures its a pretty cool little park lots of glass so on the trail so make sure you have puncture strips theres even some Adventure trials I cant do definitely worth it for free especially in York City grab your mountain bike come on out and get your backflip on
Beautiful. What a renovation. I was lucky to witness the great renovation and even read about it. It was a wreck. The homeless used it as a safe haven. Monumental! The work seemed to go on and on. However, today itsnot only beautiful but clean with a great view of the Bronx (Yankee $tadium. What a great bit of history. Check it out.
An outdoor park with multiple sections to do different activities with your children and family. Great for family picnics and gatherings, also to play many diverse sports and games with your kids. One of the best places to make any of your plans happen. If you are from the neighborhood, its very close to everything.
Nice park if you wanna just walk around and breathe in so mother nature. Park can be dirty at times but has gotten a lot better in the last couple of years. Pool in the summer and rec center all year. Even a jungle gym for kids. Park is small and dirty at times my only compliant
Nice park. Nice views. Do the walk across the historic bridge. The parks department does free tours of the bridge and I did one and it was good. There are plaques along the bridge that tell you some of its history. The outdoor public pool in this park is free and big. Two pools, one that goes to about 2 feet and the other one that goes to 10.5 feet. Second one starts somewhere between 3-4 feet I think. Its the only free outdoor public pool in the city where you can swim in water taller than you. Love it.
Its a beautiful park and they offer many different things to the community from exercise, swimming lessons and many more. They have a large Olympic pool and a big kiddie pool for small children. They offer many activities for everyone from children all the way to senior citizens.
Great views of the city! This is a must see for native NYers and people who are visiting. Its a hidden gem and the bike trails leading up to it are in great condition well maintained. You are riding along and all of a suden you come to an opening and there is this bridge that connects Washington Heights to the Bronxs. The views are amazing and there are a few benches to sit and enjoy the views.
Beautiful park. Theres a walkway down to the restored bridge and you can cross over to the bronx. Wonderful views and so much to do. Theres a pool, playground, small baseball field and of course lots of places to sit and have a picnic if you want. Theyve cleaned up this park and its great
I love this park! It has everything. From trails which you forget your in manhattan, tennis courts, basketball courts, baseball field, grass fields, sitting areas, and my favorite the two dog runs. One for larger breeds & one for smaller breeds. Both include fresh running water, pools with small pebbles grounding for no dust, good drainage and easy clean up.
Awesomely challenging hardcore urban mountain biking trails. Nice dirt jumps up at top as reward for climbing from lower flowing skills section. Various sections to learn on or flow together at top section from rock gardens and rooty to water logs and rollers. Just know your limits and be aware.
Amazing park, you can walk or ride your bike. One of the drawbacks is that restrooms are not easily accessible, only few point along the way have restrooms and at times are closed. The pool here is used by the community and it is well maintained. You will have to make long lines to get in once school is over. One of NYC finest locations. Once a year they offer and inside tour of the water tower.
I love this park but could we finish it?? I was walking around with a toddler for an hour and a half because we found ourselves at dead ends several times. We followed a path and then it was gone. We finally got out except we were blocked by a construction site.... so I taught a 2.5 year old how to slide on his belly under a gate. So.... finish the park.
I was there to get the Covid 19 test done. There you can get tested for both of them, the nasal and also the blood to check if you had it before.maybe you have the antibodies.Thankfully I got a negative result but be ready to make a long line. The healths personal are very professional.Just get there early and have patience.Good luck and keep you mask on.
It has a pool and its where the Major League Domino players are at. Friendly ambiance, kids park, 10 feet pool and a kiddie pool. It has a Kids play ground, tons of open space ***it also has a solar panel charging station*** how cool is that? It has a baseball field too. And a walking bridge that takes you to the Bronx aaaaand a YMCA
Visiting, walking along Highbridge Park is refreshing, invigorating. It always brings me a lot of memories since I have lived in the neighborhood for such a long time and I am familiar with this park. It looks clean, neat. Id wish the Watertower section would be open.
Too many lowlife pigs going there in the night mostly. The park is filled with Marijuana smokers. Though there aare cameras there, I seriously doubt that they work. Feels decent in the morning. Turns ghetto in the night. The bathrooms borderline useable. Cleaning staff shows up way to late and leaves way to early. I wouldnt be surprised if prostitution goes on in the park. Park police never truly patrols nor adequately enforce the rules. Go at your own risk
I use to go here all the time when I was a little girl. Its a huge park. Beautiful view. They have a huge pool. Theres always vendors in front selling food and icecream. They have lockers. You can come and walk around or even do excersise or go bike riding. When I was little my mom use to go and play bingo in this park. They sometimes do festivals and concerts here or even do fundraising. Theres stores across the street. When you come for the pool you have to wait in a big line so try to come early so you wont wait as much. This park is very old been here for years.
I always go to the pool here during the summer, its okay but sometimes when one person does something stupid a bunch of other people follow and then everybody gets kicked out. And it sucks sometimes because you cant even bring in water to drink if you get thirsty & they dont even have vending machines inside where you can buy some .
They finally after years of deterioration, they have renovated and open the bridge for everyone to walk in it, though getting there from the Manhattan side in the park is dangerous if youre not careful. Back then you can see the bridge from Washington bridge not too far (the bridge connecting Manhattan and Bronx) but would never cross it because of the state it was. Some people did tend to pass through the barricade, and went in, (before camera phones were invented and people taking selfies) for the thrills.
I remember this park back in 73-75, I was just a young boy , went walking, swimming, played baseball, went to the swings or just explore. Man that was so much fun! I lost mom and two sisters along the way and I guess when I look at this park it reminds me of them, cant believe it still brings me to tears. Do yourselves a big favor, forgive one another, love one another, care for one another. Be blessed , may Gods richest and best be yours.
Majestic views up & down Hudson River from way above water from High Bridge. NYC skyline, Palisades cliffs, Washington Heights, Cleopatras Needle, several bridges. Quiet oasis in bustling city. Completely renovated and rebuilt w new playgrounds and exercise areas. High Bridge gate gets locked at night on Bronx side
Its a nice park just watch with the tigers or as americans would say hoodlums. Nice place thoAs a young kid i was swiming in the nice pools they have only to come back to my locker being rob and broken into had to walk home in bare foot no shirt and wet with trunks on
Not a very big park, however its trail does extend from about 158th street to about 172nd street so its safe to say the trail is fairly distanced. You have the actual High Bridge at the top North end of the trail, which also offers a different view at the center of it, and a great view of the Bronx across the Harlem River on the East side. If you stay on the trail you can have yourself a pretty good run and its not often crowded so it offers a little relief from the average busy NYC streets.
A perfect place for skate boarders. Safe place for kids from noon to dusk. Also great for views of Manhattans Eastside and the Bronx. With a jogging and walking trail. The walk on the newly renovated and opened walkway across the Harlem River. Great views during the day of the Eastside of Manhattan and the west side of the Bronx. But at night the view is more magical. Try it out.
That old school New York City charm. Vibrant, views, swimming and BBQs. A mixed urban crowd. The sort of a place a woman should expect to catch a holla in passing. If your looking for a park to restore your faith that there are signs of life in the city that isnt AMEX fueled, look no further. If you come open minded youll find one of the more uniquely beautiful parks in the city.
First time going to the pool with my friends, I have to say it we okay just not the best. Why?? Because they enjoy throwing peoples money away instead of returning it back. My eyeliner pencil and my friends UNO cards were thrown away without an explanation. My friend asked if she can give them back, they said no and threw them away in front of us. I understand there are rules and regulations but it doesnt look right. There are lockers, they could have just returned our items and we can put them away or better yet, have ALL of the pool rules outside the pool enterance. After the pool my friende and I saw a full 2 liter soda in one of the garbage bags along with other material that is just a waste. I had to speak with one of the workers who was very nice to explain why are they throwing away some of our belongings. The rules arent clear and theres a chance I will not return to this pool. However, I dont like holding grudges against this place in general the pool is nice and there are lots of lifeguards who keep an eye out for people in the water I just dont like the service.
This park is awesome .lost of sights and lost of friendlys the pool is 10 thats a big plusss the have 2 sessions they also have akiddy section life guards and like I said friendlys.. bring your own combination lock no floties for ur babies they arnt aloud aside from the pool the walk around and in the park was great lots of trees with pathways u cant get lost I took my friends through the bushes and found some great chill spots ...but also bump into the deeper part where it was nasty filthy and fool of needles from crack heads
I lived in the Bronx back in the 60s ,grew up over there in South Harlem area. And it brings back memories when crew of friends go up there to high bridge park and go swimming. Afterwards eat outside before heading home, frenchfries at the vending truck. It was a lot of fun!
A lifeguard was harassing my brother to go to the 3 feet for no reason because my brother is gay. It doesnt matter if he is gay or not. I thought lifeguards are suppose to save you if your drowning not laugh at you just because you are something different.I think the should fire him.

2022-05-12There is a lovely paved path on its northernmost eastern entrance heading south. The bridge, however, isnt the only thing thats high. Keep your eyes open for used needles on the ground! The graffiti museum under the Bridge is gorgeous and love the maps pointing out the starting point of the Old Aqueduct Trail.

2021-10-29On return from biking from Roberto Clemente State Park to Astoria I and my six years old took the advice of a DOT advisor and chose the high bridge route. The views were stunning on the High Bridge. My little son was so happy with the green pathway 🏞️ after the High Bridge and the Central Park scenic route he didnt complain about the twelve mile distance even once! 💚He was singing along the way.

2022-03-05I truly love coming here during the winter time. The view from this park is so beautiful and you can have a clean view of the city. .. During the summer time it’s too clogged with people and this isn’t a place I would recommend if you don’t want to someone too close to your side.

2021-01-06Nice place to walk over even on a rainy day. The view is not scenic more industrial views if you like that kind of stuff. Interesting history associated with the bridge. I wish they would beautify both sides more to make it more a destination from both sides. Easy to get to via subway. I recommend this nice walk over!
