HKS Kitchen in other cities:
True Hong Kong style dishes, not the Americanized version of Chinese food. Thoroughly enjoyed the beef chow fun and ribena lemonade. Also ordered the Singapore mei fun and it was crazy spicy! It was amazing if u can handle real spicy dishes. I ordered pickup, service was kind, and the food was ready in
Ive been a loyal customer ever since I discovered this restaurant. It was a Japanese restaurant before called Shishito and now its under new management and team called HKS Kitchen. It serves Hong Kong style food and Chinese cuisine.Their food is always delicious and tasty. Im very sensitive to MSG and I approve this place does not make me thirsty afterward. They serve varieties of Cantonese, Hong Kong style street food, some of the most popular and common HK street food are HK-style Milk tea, HK style French Toast, Pineapple bun with butter, satay beef with ramen noodles, curry fishball...and more, etc.Besides the food deserves 5 stars, the owner of HKS Kitchen, Raymond(Oyster) definitely deserves a 5 star too! He really cares about every customer, always listens and takes opinions/feedback, he never stopped improving, never stopped learning, and he is always out there chatting with customers but at the same time, hes asking for your honest advice and thinking how to improve his restaurant. He often creates new recipes and tries new dishes to add to the menu. His work ethic and attitude have my full respect and made me a loyal customer ever since.
This was our first time eating at Shishito and it was ok. The portions were a good size. The service was friendly and helpful. It was all just ok. There wasnt anything truly outstanding about this place. The sushi was fresh or at least I hope it was. I guess Im used to having different experience and I was a bit disappointed. The place also had a slightly funky smell which made the experience place now just a bit off putting. The fried rice dish was not very good. We ordered the beef version but the meat they used was tough and not very tasty. I really wanted to like this place more because its so close to home but I think Im going to stick to the place in Bay ridge that I really like on 5th and 82nd street. I could tell the owners here were really trying hard but it was missing dinner touches that could make a huge difference in the client experience. The owners daughter was a cute little girl who actually added to the place. She was So adorable. I came with a friend who was less impressed because the rolls were too soft and hard to hold onto with the chopsticks. I would pass in the future but you decide for yourself.
This place is absolutely amazing! It was love from the first sushi piece :) The appetizers are also on point! Literally everything in their menu is fantastic. I love the special roles combinations with cool ingredients such as roasted garlic or Jalapeno sauce. I live in Berlin and really miss Shishito while Im home.
OverpricedDecided to try a new place when they first opened. The food was good, but nothing special comparing to other sushi places in the area, however the prices were much higher (about 20% more expensive) My kid ordered beef fried rice which usually cost around $7, this place charged around $12 for the same quantity and taste. For now I will stick with other sushi place.
One of the best sushi restaurants on the island! Everything is always so fresh! A few times we ordered online and someone at the restaurant called shortly after to say they were out of one of our items. He recommended something else and did not upcharge for the new more expensive item! So nice of them!
Your smaller local dine-in for great Japanese and Asian fair. Ray and his team always put in the extra effort to make your experience the best. Before things went South in early 2020, Ray would come over to say hello, talk with customers, and make you feel welcome. Even though the branding has changed to Sup Crab. Its still run by Ray and his crew. So youre still getting the best with delivery. While not every item on the menu has been sampled. Whether its sushi, ramen, or bento box. You cant go wrong with what you choose. Thats why itll always be known as Rays place.
Really just ok. I want to like a place when its a first time for me, but it wasnt supreme. Ordered take out. Ramen and wings. The Ramen was packaged nice and hot for take-home, and was hot upon consumption. The wings were unlike any wings Ive ever had before. Im pretty sure some of the wings were chopped off top-halves of chicken legs. A workaround Ive never encountered before. The sauce it came with was good, and they were fried nice.
I wish I could get my money back. I ordered 4 rolls (2 types) and I was surprised that they both came made with only fish, a very thin layer of rice and nori. Spicy salmon rolls and spicy tuna rolls normally have cucumber and/or avocado in them. Also, the spicy mayo wasn’t in the roll, nor was it even on the side. I was given plain mayo and dried chili pepper to make my own spicy mayo and it didn’t taste good because the large pieces of dried pepper flakes didn’t add flavor or incorporate well into the mayo and there were no other seasonings added so it didn’t taste like a spicy version of mayo. It tasted obviously like regular, bland mayonnaise. The rolls are very small compared to what I’ve had before.Until now, I thought I liked spicy tuna rolls but, now that I’ve tried a minimalist version, I’ve discovered that I can’t stomach them without a sufficient amount of flavors to complement the tuna.I’m not saying this is a bad place to eat, overall. But, I would definitely not recommend the sushi.
Ordered:Spicy mushroom miso soupSpicy yellowtailChicken friend riceSapporo beer to wash it down 😊Thoughts:Ambiance was very peaceful with light chatter even though the place was busy.Quality of the food is the real highlight. Fresh, tasty and well put together.Would recommend as the best Sushi place I’ve been on the island.
I went here for my girlfriends birthday not too long ago. The owner of the store (so sorry, I forget your name!) was the nicest person as well as his staff. It is a nice cozy place, I personally love it. One of the persons in our party has a gluten allergy and the staff made sure to tell her what had gluten and what didnt which was very nice. Definitely will be going back here soon.
Exceptional new place in Staten Island. You can call a few days ahead and order aged steak or a certain kind of fish that usually sells out quickly. The owner always surprises you with great order suggestions. Fish quality is superior. There are many great appetizers with black truffle oil...Just an amazing place all together!
I finally found the BEST sushi on Staten Island! They serve all the sushi with warm rice. They serve the Unagi warm. Every piece of fish was fresh and melted in my mouth. Even the wasabi was moist and soft, the way it should be. They didnt have Tuna Belly tonight, so Ill have to call ahead next time and see if they have it in. They also need a better selection of Saki, but other than that, I found my spot!! Cant wait to go back!!!
Found this place while looking for a good ramen place; typed best ramen on Staten Island.I ended up going with my girlfriend on Valentines Day. There wasnt anyone else there, but the service was very good, everyone was friendly, we received our food within no time. I ordered the spicy pork belly ramen, and my girlfriend got the tonkotsu ramen. That with a 6 pcs. fried tofu appetizer came out to ~$45. Everything was amazingly delicious; we talk about it all the time. Definitely going back soon.
Came here for the first time since our regular sushi place closed down. The price was about 25% more expensive for the same quality I used to get. My biggest disappointment was the speciality rolls. Not only are they 3x the cost of the regular roll, but they are pretty much the same size if not smaller. Flavor didnt really wow me either.
This is one of the best Ramen I’ve ever had, even when compared to ippudo. It’s traditional in every sense of the word; the broth with pork belly speaks miles alone. Make sure to have the egg medium, the creaminess really adds a mouthful of flavor. A true hidden gem in Staten Island well worth the drive. Can’t wait til my birthday and try the aged ribeye.
Owner is the friendliest guy and he is somebody who actually knows and cares about food and is willing to surprise you with dishes. Not to mistake that this is a very simple restaurant where you can get an easy lunch if you want, but theres still a food experience here that you just dont find on Staten Island...especially outside of the usual Italian food.
First time here, we were actually going to another Sushi restaurant which we have visited before but they had a grade pending on the window which means they failed their last health inspection. So I googled for another sushi restuarant in the area and found this place. Its a small place but must say the service, sushi and owner Ramon is definitely why we will be back! He also made a spicey ademame upon request that was by far the best we ever had. Ramon said he will be putting it on the menu so if your a fan of adamame you MUST try the spicey! Cant wait to pre order the tomahawk steak! Ordered in advance will be aged and prepared for you to your liking. Dont miss this hidden Japanese jam on the island.
Ramen noodles have a generous amount of pork belly, sushi and sashimi is extra fresh (Salmon Belly is so rich and smooth) and Hamacha Kama (Yellowtail collar) is super delicious. The service and staff are very attentive and personable, giving us free desserts and what not. Also they sometimes get their uni (sea urchin) from Hokkaido and it is one of the most intensely nutty, buttery and smoothest things I have ever eaten. Just WOW! Please do yourself a favor and treat yo self.
The real Hong Kong-style delicacies you can enjoy in Hong Kong😍The milk tea (cold/hot) is amazing, you must try the fresh and hot crispy radish oil! After eating food D, there will be a feeling of reluctant to forget and look forward to going again next time! Nice clerk, good service quality 👍🏻
😩😩 It’s hard to say! I tried it at the beginning of October. All of them are disposable tableware. The rice is frozen. The only good food is West Toast! The first time I went to eat, the chicken color water was pretty good, and the second time I went to eat! Understand that the bridge tolls cost money, but the weight is really a pocket! The iced milk tea actually takes half a cup! You can try to scare, but there will be a second time!Nice and friendly Service. But the food just ok. The only food that we like was French toast.

2022-06-05The milk tea is the best out of all the items ordered. As for the curry fish ball, pig skin and turnip, the curry sauce is very good. Pig skin is too soggy. Hardly can be spotted in the dish. The baked rice and spaghetti dishes was good. The tomato sauce is quite HK authentic. One of the better one to be found in all NYC HK cafes. As of the stuffed French toast, probably would not order again.

2021-12-29A must try HK style cafe, a lot a lot a lot better than those HK restaurants in Chinatown or Brooklyn. Surprisingly delicious and cannot wait to go back again to taste other dishes. Also, staffs are very kind and feeling homey.

2021-10-08Wow, so amazing to have this gem on Staten Island! Food is fresh and so nicely cooked. Nothing too greasy or too salty, everything was perfect. Service was top notch and all the staff were so welcoming and friendly. Definitely will be coming back for some HK french toast!

2021-11-29I have heard many good things about this place and finally got a chance to try this place tonight! Must try the wings (egg york or salt pepper), Hk toast and the milk tea (hk style). We also order the satay beef fried noodle (my all time favorite), baked porkchop rice and salted chicken. They did not disappoint! The portion is bigger than I expected. I would try the off menu “pineapple bun”, beef chow fun, beef brisket, and sweet sour spare rib on my next visit 😋.

2022-01-01Probably the best 茶餐廳 I’ve eaten at so far. That means yes, I’ve tried all the 茶餐廳 in Chinatown, 8th Avenue Brooklyn, and Bensonhurst, and I still gave this place 5 stars. Queens is too far for me so I can’t speak for that and if you’re reading this review…that’s probably true for you too.One of the owners, Raymond (aka Oyster Cookies) makes the best Hakka style chicken I’ve had. I highly recommend trying it! He comes from an OG spot in HK and that was one of the dishes they were best known for. He reverse engineered and then tweaked it into his own version.Other stellar dishes include the Kyoto Pork Chops & Tomato Beef rice. Portions are generous and not overly greasy - you’ll find more protein than other spots. Their cream of mushroom soup is the best I’ve had. It’s not watered down cream. They have a bar too, if you’re interested in alcohol.FYI- You can order whole chickens given time in advance (a few days at least) for special occasionsThis place is a godsend for Staten Islanders. 10/10Free delivery is available if the minimum is met and destination is close (under 3 mi). Paid delivery can be had for farther destinations on the island.

2022-07-12Finally a real Hong Kong style cafe in Staten Island. Their HK style milk tea is the best in NYC. I LOVE their main course/main dishes: Golden salted ginger chicken, Kyoto pork chop, Fresh pineapple sweet and sour spare ribs, fish filet with friend tofu in brown sauce. I would also suggest their appetizers: Salted egg yolk chicken wings, salt & pepper chicken wings, fish balls, pig skin and radish in curry sauce; pan fried oysters; Hong Kong style French toast.Well, you’ll need to make many trips to try them all lol 😁

2022-03-12I tried the Hakka chicken after reading some positive reviews. It’s just OK. Nothing is commendable about the seating or decor. It’s a place for a quick bite or brunch, not comfy spot for chitchat. However, I am still very grateful that we can have a HK style cafe on SI so close to home. They have the most authentic HK style milk tea/coffee milk tea I have ever had around NY. The fried beef chow fun is also decent. Definitely will go back and try other dishes.

2021-06-09Me and the boys decided to try something different and we felt like Ramen was a good crave for the day and we randomly selected this location and considered it a jackpot.Raymond hooked us up because we left with more than just Ramen. We added a seafood boil which included Snowcrab Legs, Shrimp, Crawfish, Potato’s, and Corn. The sauce he suggested was what made the boil even better. A good feed for 3 btw for the $45 Seafood Boil. The Ramen was delicious and we made sure to ask for double Pork Belly because who doesn’t like extra meat, pause. We also had the Grilled Squid and Fried Calamari which the sauce to the Calamari had an amazing kick.We all agreed the food was slamming and we will be coming back to get a larger order if all the guys come through. I personally want to come back to try the Sushi on our next order.

2022-05-18Went to HKS Kitchen for Mothers day with my wife and kids. Unfortunately they were completely full. So we ordered out. They made us wait for a long time to get our food. The food was great 👍 but for the long wait time i take 1 ⭐ off.
