Ive Been Coming To This Spot For Well Over 20 Years And The Food Has Always Been DeliciousThe Staff Remember You And If A Regular They Already Know What You Want When You Come In LOLI Would Actually Give Them A 3-3.5 But Cant Do Half StarsWish I Could Of Giving Them A 5 BUT UNFORTUNATELY...And I Blame 100% Of This On COVID-19 The Place Looks Run Down And Has A Weird Odor Now.....(Like A Old Place)Food Is Still Some Of The Best Flavors (Full 5 Stars For Food) Around And In All Honestly You Cannot Beat The Lunch Specials....From $7-10You Get Hot Tea Or Water, Those Crunchy Snacks While You Wait For Your Order, Soup, Your Main Dish And Finally Ice CreamDefinitely Worth A Visit...If That Odor Is Worked On And Resolved They Would Be More Busy
Ive been coming here since I was 5 and Im now in my forties. Ho wan is a good choice for great food. The owners and the people that work there are amazing! They have consistently and repeatedly served some of the best Chinese food ive had in my life. You want good NYC Chinese food out of manhatran? Come here. Their homemade duck sauce is phenomenal! Fried or steamed, rice or noodles, dumplings or ribs (MY GOD THE RIBS!!!!!), or any other dish, you will not find a better food or nicer people!
I will not order from here again a waste of $40. Shrimp and broccoli was very sweet, the broccoli was overcooked and soft and worst of all did not smell fresh. Boneless spare ribs were like mush, were very sweet. Either they used a cheap cut of pork for this or the meat was old because it tasted like imitation meat nothing like boneless ribs i usually have. Pork fried rice that came with the meal was horrible, did not seem freshly cooked and had sweet after taste. The only thing i enjoyed was the pepper steak.
Delivery was fast but that was the only good thing. The food was pretty mediocre and not worth the price. I’ve had better food from any small take out place. The ribs were not good, the house special fried rice was bland, seriously disappointed. Wish I never spent the money. :/. I can tell everything is cooked from frozen. 👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼👎🏼 I feel bad writing this but I think people should know considering I only ordered because of all the good reviews but now that I glance I can tell a bunch of them are bought reviews they say the same thing with different names.
Friendly staff, all the food was delicious, prompt service, freebies is the fresh crispy noodles, hot tea, soup comes with meal. ( Never even had to ask for anything)Dinner for 2 - 2 appetizers, combo rice & entree all under $40.00We are from New Orleans ..so good tasting food matters along with environment. We felt at home & the food was excellent.
We ordered dinner from here last night and the food was delish with savory sauces. The delivery was fast. The chicken wings were flavorful but too big. Please use smaller wings. I love how they pack all the condiments together in a cute little bag and include tea bags! To notch Chinese food!!!
Worst dining in experience ever. You cant sit wherever you want, the waiter tells you exactly where to sit even though the restaurant was almost empty. He was rash, unfriendly, businesslike and made me extremely uncomfortable. The cutlery and wares looked as though they werent washed properly and I didnt feel like using them. The food wasnt great, it was overpriced. And the waiter wanted ten dollars for his horrible service haha I hope I never see that man again. It was my first and last time at that restaurant
Best Chinese food in the city. Lunch specials are a great deal. The staff is super nice. Its a local family spot. The staff treats you personally and remembers you when you come back. Love this place. Its been here for many years. Highly recommend the food. Its not fancy. But its delicious
Best Chinese food ever. Spare ribs are incredible. Whenever we have spare ribs elsewhere we compare as good as hi wan? . They never are. All the soups are wonderful especially tomatoes egg drop, which is hard to find elsewhere. Chow meinDelicious. Very good service. Reasonable prices, Sundays has wide noodles which can be a meal with a bowl of duck sauce. Recommend highly you willLove it. I recommend eating in. For some reason taste better in one of their booths. Enjoy!
Maybe its better if you eat at the restaurant so you can complain in person. Ordered for delivery. The food tasted very stale and days old, got very sick after a few bites, not to mention how expensive it was from what the normal price. The sesame chicken tasted like rubber and if it was cooked in rubbing alcohol, the fried rice was undercooked, hard, and tasted like absolutely nothing. Thought the quality would be better at least for the price I was paying but how wrong I was. If youre thinking of this spot just use a different one or eat at the restaurant so you can be safe. Really upset, if I could give 0 stars I would. Shame.
My family and I have come to this Chinese restaurant for almost 17 years. We have watch this restaurant blossom into a beautiful strong business on Liberty in South Richmond Hill. Once youre in you taking the yummy aroma of great culinary Chinese cuisine. Its wonderful for the entire family. The minute you walk in youre greeted with a warm smile and friendly service.
I have been eating here with my family for over 30 years! If you want delicious quality chinese food then This is your place. The staff has been employed for decades, Steve is almost globally known as he has been in every picture we have ever taken in this place. My recommendations:Chicken with eggplant & garlic sauceBoneless RibsLo meinThe fried rice is served on a platter and a small portion doesn’t exist. The price is very affordable to dine out with your family, make wise food choices as you don’t need to over order.
Flew into JFK and was craving Chinese food so decided to stop here off of reviews on Yelp. There is a front take out section as well as a sit down section in the back with tablecloths for a nice dine in dinner. The waitress was very nice and the food was good. We ordered the spare ribs combination platter, house lo main and shrimp and broccoli. Everything was hot and freshly made and came out promptly.
Had a good experience ordering online before, but I am currently waiting for food that was ordered 2+ hours ago. Called the restaurant twice, the first time I called they told me they were still cooking it (hour and a 15 min after ordering), the second time I was told the delivery man should be here any minute. That was 20 minutes ago. The restaurant is a 10 min drive away.Update: The food finally came, it was hot but the egg roll tasted like plastic.
The atmosphere is comfortable. The food is good. There are vegetarian options. Beer and wine are also on the menu. There is always fresh crispy noodles at your table to enjoy with duck sauce. You can dine at Ho Wan alone, as a family, or even for a guys or girls night out. Ho Wan is a neighborhood favorite. Steve is the most sought out server. Definitely a place to try if you have never eaten there. Cheers!
Whenever I go there Im always happy. The food is delicious and the staff is so pleasant they treat u like family. Took my dad for the first time he enjoyed it tremendously. Steve is the best, there is nothing he wouldnt do to please u as a customer. Get the pu pu platter you wont be let down!😉
An old style sit down chinese restaurant. A bit dated but outside of flushing or brooklyn I dont know of any sit down chinese full service restaurants. Food is okay. I dont sit up and bark but its there. Theyre clean quick and reasonably priced! Something really unusual today
If you think of one of those old Chinese food places in the city well this place is on top with those places, & I couldnt beleive the prices there heck I sure love the price but just the damn taste & flavor of the food will make your mouth water.... Steve the waiter is great ask for him & u wont be disappointed.... Enjoy...........
Great Chinese restaurant. They have a twin lobster special. There is enough food to share. Two lobsters prepared any way you want: Cantonese style, with ginger and scallions, red wine sauce; white rice; soup; dessert. Try the special dessert: ice cream, pineapples, sherbert. Yummy. The ribs are delicious. So are the scallion pancakes. If you have more than 3 people in your party, order the pu pu platter. Delicious
Omg I grew up with this restaurant...Im sorry to say it has gone severely downhill...it took me 3 visits and 1 take out to realize, It is the worst...Undercooked ribs...stale greasy fried rice....Go to Dannys on Crossbay Blvd...you wont be disappointed....Go anywhere...just not here...

2022-02-17Still one of the best Chinese Restaurants in Queens! I ordered the General Tao’s tofu and it was delicious… You can take it Togo or eat in (the place was empty) either option the customer service is great.

2022-02-27Delicious! The way Chinese restaurants were back in the day. Tea was hot. Crab rangoon soooo good. Orange chicken was great. Excellent fast service. It is more expensive than a take-out Chinese place. But overall very good for a fancier Chinese restaurant in Queens. I will definitely be back!

2022-04-02I ordered take out. The food is usually good but today the egg roll was awful. It tastes like its old and fried in very old oil. The shrimp in the young chow fried rice was not good.

2022-02-01This picture is from a few years ago. My family has been going to “Tommy Wans” (that’s what they call it) for decades. This place is more than good food; it carries such a deep positive energy. I’m grateful a space like this exists. I haven’t gone back since my grandpa passed away but I think I’ll make a trip sometime soon and reminisce all the laughs we had here.

2017-03-25I honestly dont find anything special about this place. I ordered general tsos for delivery and it came pretty quick. The food tasted good but I had better Chinese food elsewhere. Prices were decent. I would probably buy again, but this place doesnt deserve a 4 or 5 star.

2017-08-06Love this place. The last of the real family style sit down restaurants. Food is excellent. Staff is friendly and helpful. Located near the A train.
