HoBrah in other cities:
Great drinks, better food! My first time here and def not my last. Sat at the bar and Joe was our server/bartender. I had the beef nachos and it was delicious! Drank the frozen flights (alcoholic slushy-type drink) which come in 4 different flavors with 1 order---very tasty. Great service and in a up and coming neighborhood!
Amazing place!!! Loved the drinks and the food was delicious. Not to mention the staff, very lovely people, very attentive and fast. It was my first time here and I was treated like a valued customer and you dont really see that here in the Island. I sat at the bar and I felt that I received the same attention you should expect as if youre sitting at a table. Did not expect this place to be as good it is. I will definitely come back here again. Really good playlist amazing atmosphere. Loved this place!!
I ordered food on the app for delivery. I waited over 2 hours for the food not to come. When I called after an hour I was told they were waiting on the delivery driver. I never got my food and never got my money back. It’s ridiculous will never order from there again.
Pretty Good Food. Burritos are a Bit Dry at times but the Cadillac Margaritas make up for it. The Guacamole and Chips are Amazing. Salsa is good also, just needs to be more consistent flavor wise. Sometimes it has a hint of spice and sometimes it doesnt. Fresh taste every time though.
Food was great. Nice place. The place was empty. The hostess sat a group right behind us which I thought was weird since there was plenty of seating. In these times, I would try and space people if you can. With that said the place was empty, it could have been better managed.
Great place with amazing food. Ive been many times over the past two years and Ive loved it every time. The food is great, the steak burrito is my favorite and I recommend it to everyone! The noise level is typically on the louder side, can be distracting when having a conversation with anyone who isnt sitting next to you. The staff is great and I was surprised when I got my food fairly quickly on a crowded Saturday night. Overall, its a great place worth a visit.
Love this place, I get delivery a least once a week. Best of all, staff is super nice and helpful, especially Megan! As someone who worked in the restaurant industry for over 10 years, service is so important, and Megan is a great example of what a great employee is!!!
Why I give 4 stars ? Because evething you expect from a cool place like that to happen happened! Ok service, the food was so yummy you have to try it yourself to understand, I had one drink and I was happy(good bartender). We visited with a 4 year old that had good time and liked the food too
It was pretty good, the flavors were there. I had the Sunset Pork and it was delicious, had the mole in my burrito but I could hardly taste it and the margaritas were good. All in all, the food was good, the service was great and the prices were a bit expensive (to me, at least). If that doesnt put you off, its a great place.
This place turned into a rip-off. Theyre charging about a dollar an ounce for well drinks now. No dine in, just a sidewalk Tex-Mex-ish place... Would you expect a $330 bill for two couples for a light meal and a few drinks? We were shocked, but management didnt care. Too bad, they used to be good.
Ive come here a few times. The food is good. The menu is not overwhelming which I personally like. Drinks are decent. A nice place to visit with the family or to kick back with friends. They have a small bar area which can get crowded quick. Since its a small place if you go during the dinner rush expect to wait. I didnt give them five stars simply because on my last visit I was a party of two and they told me it would be up to a 40 minute wait yet I could visibly see empty tables. We managed to grab two stools at the bar and just ate and drank there.
Will not be ordering again. I ordered tacos and empanadas and as soon as I opened the lid I got hit with a strong smell of ammonia. I thought I was bugging out so I started smelling my lemon water and other things around me. My nose wasnt the problem. It was the food. I had to stuff my nose with tissue to ignore the smell as best as I could.
Been here 3 times with my wife and kid. Each time I’ve been here I’ve had new server helping us and each time the experience has been amazing. The crew is literally phenomenal! They’re always moving and always helping one another out. I’ve been there in busy nights and seen them make it look easy. Definitely will be returning many times for the simple fact that the food is amazing and there aren’t many places like this in the island. On top of the the food the staff is another reason this place is great. TRY THE CALI FISH TACO! THANKS GUYS
Very American Mexican food, which is fine for what it is, just dont expect anything authentic or staff who speak Spanish. The food is pretty good, nothing drop dead amazing but what bumps it up to 4 🌟 is the service, they really have a well oiled machine and friendly staff and youll never have to wait long for food to arrive. Also this place somehow manages to be both kid-friendly as well as drinker-friendly with an ample bar, no small feat.
The Burrito was particularly underwhelming with approximately 85 percent of it being white rice. The ambiance was nice as well as the service, I felt the waiters and staff were responsive. However we were asked to move our seats to the bar because they were having a difficult customer who wanted our seats. The waiter offered us 2 drinks as recompense and we agreed. However after ordering only one drink the bartender proceeded to charge us. Popular Staten Island watering hole probably not going back.
Waited an hour and a half with a party of 4, just to watch 3 kids walk in who knew a waitress and get seated immediately. Besides that after spending good money at the bar, food is only mediocre at best. Several other taco places in the area with much better service and food
I went here tonight for dinner and to be honest I don’t understand all the good reviews because the food was not good. My friend took her meal home with her which was steak fajitas. Her husband was about to eat it and noticed green mold on the tortilla wraps. No wonder it’s so dark in the restaurant. I would upload a picture to show if it was possible. I would have given no stars but you have to choose at least one.
Just went for the first time and loved it. The tacos were delicious (especially the Cabo fish taco), my coconut marguerita was lovely, and the server was very helpful. The staff was also super cool about letting us hang out all night and catch up with each other; they didnt bug us and we never felt the slightest bit rushed. Save room to get those churros for dessert: they are amazing!
I have been here a bunch of times and the food is always AMAZING! Some of the drinks are skimpy. Im talking like 8 ounce glasses and empty within two sips. And they have forgotten my sauce on every single take out order I have ever placed. Besides that the service is very friendly!
Good bunch even though it is a little heavy for my tastes. Not worth it if you dont drink. If they offered something better than unending coffee or tea I would be more inclined to come. Oh and live music during brunch is fun if you like loud bars with people singing along. I do.
First I’d like to say the food and drinks were pretty good. The service.... ehh not so much. The bartender wasn’t so pleasant. A customer came in and was offered specials, and chips and salsa. Needless to say although the food was good, it doesn’t beat the bad customer service.
The food was not good. As was the service. No taste, room temperature, horrible service. You could smell the racism. Typical of Staten Island. I ordered three tacos. I ate one. And I eat a lot. Even if it isnt that good. I hate wasting food but it sucked. I left them a tip because I work in the service industry as well and these workers didnt deserve a dollar. Plus the waitresses were giving us the nastiest looks. Not professional. Grow up. I wish I could give them a negative star.
Welcoming environment and well maintained restaurant. The quality of service is above average, awesome and caring staff. Wide range of food and drinks. Fantastic place for a dinner with a family or friends. Visited this place once and looking forward to come here again. Only thing they should improve is the amount of light inside the restaurant as it felt a little dark inside. I would recommend that place to everyone ! :)
I came here for the happy hour which you cant beat.... 2 dollar tacos and 5 dollar frozen margaritas. The tacos were just ok. They did have alot of different combination of tacos. I had the shredded chicken and then the pork with pineapple. The shredded chicken was pretty good. The frozen margaritas were pretty good and strong. The waitress was really nice and I liked that she was attentive even though we just stopped in for drinks. I would only come here again for drinks or happy hour.
One of the best spots to get tacos and Staten Island. There is also a location available in Brooklyn as well. My wife really liked the fish and shrimp tacos, I really enjoy their pork steak and chicken options. They also have a good selection of drinks and appetizers, we have the chips and queso and chips and guac, both were excellent.
I wish this place was better but it is just ok. I have had issues with proteins in their tacos being very dry and some of their tacos just being bland. The guacamole is just mashed avocados, they really need to fix that dish. The Mexican corn is really good as are the drinks. On weekend nights prepare to wait a while.
Eh... Came in on a Sat around 5ish. Place was packed and felt like it was understaffed for the peak hour. Took easily 10 minutes to get a drink from the only bartender there.Anyway onto the food. The food was alright. Had 3 different tacos all of which almost tasted the same, except for one smothered in bbq sauce. They all tasted pretty bland and was like they were trying too hard to think outside the box but failed. Cheap stringy coleslaw on most of their tacos for much needed texture. Steak tacos were cubes of leather belt oozing with typical BBQ sauce. Obviously this isnt for people whove had authentic tacos or know anything about spices. All of the tacos I ordered came garnished with cilentro ontop, which wasnt even removed from its stem. Never seen that before at a restaurant. I ordered 2 beers with my wife when when placing our order, only to remind my waiter minutes before finishing our dishes that we still didnt get our drinks. A whole meal went by before we had anything to drink.. Guy didnt even check on us once...The place looks cool, has a nice ambience and fun decor. However, the food and service was lacking and leaving me wanting more.
The decor & vibe of the place is pretty cool, Calif surf-bum. The food is good & the staff were excellent - friendly, helpful & courteous. Just be forewarned the price$ are pretty expensive. That bowl of chips with the salsa & guacamole that are placed on the table quickly upon sitting are NOT complimentary, rather its $9, so when u ask for another bowl of chips, ure $20 in before uve even barely glanced at the menus. And 1 complaint regarding my Grilled shrimp burrito is I wouldve liked & expected more than a mere 4 shrimp inside it but it was very tasty. So there ya go...
Love this place because they have great drinks and they brought back the damn shrimp empanadas (disclaimer: they are slightly different from before they were taken away). Drinks here are always good, they also have sports on, and everything has a good flavor and nice portions.
Because its Staten Island and there Arent many choices like this. So it gets the four star. Its a clean fun fire joint. Younger crowd too so thats a huge plus. The place is 7/8 restaurant space and a sliver of a bar up front. The place can get backed up so you could end up waiting an hour for a table to free up but youve got the bar to drink and wake at (Standing room only probably if busy). Outdoor space adjacent should be great when it opens up.
Blane...Spanish only in apperance. Tastes like unfrozen Costco. Standard over priced generic lighting and .....prices are again are hilarious. Three tacos 15$? White rice not Spanish rice. It seems to add vinegar to the tomato paste and think thats salsa. The lemonade wasnt free refull. Would have been nice to know when I asked for a refill. 3.5 for half a Mason jar that was full of ice...thats two..7 plus taxes....Cronyism is never in good taste.Everyone was....as good as it gets in nyc....rarely seen when needed. After looking around and seeing awards I can only guess the judges where other Italians and no actual Mexican chefs where eating here. Its not a restaurant. Its a college bar serving food for tax purposes...probably.
Its Wendys what more can you expect? I would rather order in than drive-thru. The lady usually gets my order wrong and I get charged more than I should. For example, I ordered 4 sausage biscuits at 99 cents each. She charged me 2 for $3 breakfast sandwich which comes with eggs. I got charged nearly 50% more than I should.Any size coffee is a great deal. But hey, the food is delicious! Was this review …?
Food is ok. Service is horrible. Young, immature kids run the place with no adult supervision. Went there last night for dinner, we were a party of 5. Arrived at 8pm and was told the wait was 45 mins. Long, but we had drinks at the bar while we waited. 45 mins passed and no table. We watched everyone waiting with us near the bar get seated. At 9:15pm we spotted a big empty round table at the back that would seat at least six. We asked about it and were told that it was only large enough for 3 people. At 9:25pm a group of 5 younger (18-21) girls walked in off the street and were seated at that table. We left at 9:35pm without being seated. We figured out that the entire time we were waiting the hostess was seating her friends and friends of other staff members first. We went over to burrito bar, waited 15 mins, and had a good meal. We are all finished with HoBrah. Terrible place run by people who couldnt give a damn about fairness or customers. Hopefully people figure this out and just stop going here. Nothing Hawaiian about this place at all, Hawaiians are great people.
I need you to go here, because I need these tacos in my life. You just cant get good Mexican good in Staten island, although this definitely has a good mexicali twist. Great cocktails, excellent guacamole, and did I mention the burritos? Ive had all of them, fantastic.
I was so excited to watch HoBrah renovate the resturant that was located there prior. They certainly did my neighborhood proud, offering something new and exciting to a community starved for eat out options. The place gets very busy, which is a good sign and the food is awesome.
All my friends and I LOVE this place! The Ho Brah in Bay Ridge used to be our go-to spot, and since a few of us live in Staten Island, this is even better! The SI location is bigger than its Bay Ridge location. Though the service and food are excellent at both! ALWAYS packed and thats because its always great!
Ive been here before and really enjoyed it but Im never a fan of deceptive upselling. As soon as we were seated, the waitress asked us if we wanted some chips and guac. I cant imagine anyone who would say no when asked that. What we werent told is we were charged the $9.95 for the normal appetizer. Chips and salsa are complimentary but I guess we had to say no to the guac. We were also both overcharged for our burrito bowls, even with the ridiculous $1 fee to NOT serve an actual burrito. I was even charged an extra dollar for some crema that was offered to me on the side. Then we waited a good 15 minutes from the time the incorrect bill was given to us until the time it was collected. We also had to watch who appeared to be the manager conducting himself entirely inappropriately with the hostess. It certainly seemed that they were a couple but the whole restaurant doesnt need to know. I was excited for Kettle Black to open but if Im going to get nickle and dimed with fees like a cell phone bill, Ill pass on both places.
Worst food I’ve ever had, I went there for the first time today because of the good reviews, the steak had no flavor tasted like rubber, the beans and rice tasted as if they had been cooked in the same place the steak was made just gross. Only thing worth it was the Mac n cheese
Horrid place. Looks good, shiny decor, but bottom line is the wait is always too long and all the people who have friends working at HoBrah get seated before customers that have been waiting for 1+ hours. The management couldnt give a damn, otherwise this wouldnt happen. Typical Staten Island stuff at work here. Selfish, inconsiderate people. Not recommended.
Do yourself a favor and head down to Adobe Blues if you want some real tex-mex with courteous service. The ambience of the place is nice but the food is mediocre and sometimes even a little cold. They do the typical hipster-style mason jar technique with the drinks(an obvious effort to save money by skimping you on drink) which has become normal in BK and Manhattan, but is unappreciated here in SI. Stop being cheap and give me a real glass. The late 20’s-early 30’s crowd of typical bros also leave little to be desired. Its a chain too, which probably explains the lack of personality when it comes to the servers. They’re nice to their regulars but if they don’t know you its the cold shoulder for you. Seriously, if you’re looking for good tex mex eats don’t support this corporate giant. Head down to Adobe Blues. You won’t regret it. I’m not a spokesperson nor do I work there. Its just a shame to see so many people flock to this place because (I guess) they don’t know anything better.
I CANT UNDERSTAND HOW I SPEND $200PLUS WITH MY WIFE ALONE EACH DAY I GO HERE AND SIT IN THE SAME SEATING EVERY TIME, AND YET ON THE DAY CHRISTIAN THE MANAGER IS NOT IN I AM TOLD MY WIFE,KIDS AND I CANNOT SIT IN THE AREA,DUE TO THE FACT THAT MATT TRIES TO HOLD THE SEATS FOR OTHER PEOPLE.I GUESS MY $200PLUS BLACK MONEY AND TIPS TO THE BARTENDER AND COOKS IS NOT NEEDED THERE ANYMORE.ITS A SHAME WHAT THE HELP DOES WHEN CHRISTIAN IS NOT AROUND.I DONT EVEN THINK THE FAT GUY WHO SAID HIS NAME IS MATT WAS EVEN TELLING THE TRUTH.I ASKED HIM WHEN CHRISTIAN GETS IN AND WAS TOLD HE HAS BEEN WORKING FOR HIM SINCE HE WAS 17.I HOPE THIS BEHAVIOR HAS NOT BEEN ALLOWED BY THIS CREEP SO CALLED MATT FOR THIS LONG.
Ordered food for my wifes 31st birthday because kids were to tired to leave... i ordered a fajita with no corn or beans all that was in it was corn ... drove 20 mim there 20 min back for the manager to give me an attitude and argue about a burrito i ordered with red sauce for my daughter that they sent with a spicy brown sauce ... oh and for vegetable fajita they marked it as the most expensive fajita on the menuOh and no refund for anything but a restaurant credit for the fajitaId remove the one star if it would let me
I called several minutes ago to place an order. The person that answered was rude, told me she was not taking any new orders for the rest of the night, and before I got to ask a follow up question, she hung the phone up. I rarely leave negative reviews, but you should not treat people this way. Especially now.

2022-02-23Just spent well over a hundred bucks for dinner and got a raw steak. This is no where near medium rare. The picture makes it look more cooked than it is. The exterior of the steak is literally gray. Horrendous that a chef would send this out with their name on it. I would say I could just eat my appetizer and be happy but it’s covered in a sauce I requested be left off due to an allergy.

2022-05-01The frozen blueberry margaritas were delicious and we also ordered tacos (thunderbird & captain jack). Both were so good!! Outdoor setting was perfect on Sunday.

2021-08-14Holy shrimp empanada! This restaurant is the best- a thorough and inventive menu. How can you decide?Dont worry-- all the food is good and high quality, you cant go wrong with your selection. We enjoyed shrimp empanadas, beef brisket taco, sunset taco, the long island all-star taco, the cabo fish taco, and the bbq sauce taco.Every item was delicious and beautiful to behold! The homemade corn tortillas housed some epic eats!

2021-08-03This location is the original on the island and it’s pretty good! Corn is amazing always and the chips and guacamole was delicious although pricey. The tacos are alright! Anything with friend fish/shrimp was delicious but the beef was okay at best. Service was friendly!

2022-04-17I mean 8/10 times Ive been here everything i ordered was amazing. The other 2/10 one thing was lacking. However the service is always fairly good, not too intrusive, but also pretty attentive. I go here for lunch sometimes so its not packed... But all in all its worth it. Little pricey, but their foods good.

2022-05-09Not a great experience. My son wanted to take me out for lunch and I wanted some place quiet in the neighborhood. First.. the lighting in this place is terrible. It was so dark I couldnt see the menu or if there was anything in my food. I can tell that the little ipads that were on the tables havent been wiped down in weeks. Drinks tasted terrible and the food was super salty. The tacos my son had was tasty. The guacamole had no flavor and the chips were stale. Food wasnt that great and the atmosphere is too dark for a taco spot. First and last time coming to this place. Wasnt worth $60 for a few tacos and chips. Disappointed ☹️

2020-10-04Outdoor dining with shade on the side of the restaurant. I ordered a fajita dish and asked for everything but the meat on the side. The waitress stated that its served with everything on the side. When I received my dish everything was mixed in together. The food was ok.Update: 10/4...finally indoor dining. Our waitress was very on top of everything so we had great service and the food was great tonight.

2019-07-22I’m not usually big on Mexican food because of my allergy to spicy peppers but this place has some delicious options and frozen drink options too. Our waiter was Lou and he was great! He helped make sure I didn’t order anything that I cannot eat. He was supposed helpful, friendly and accommodating. The food is delicious and decently priced. I’d definitely recommend this place to anyone. The atmosphere is nice and family friendly but also great for an adult crowd. The also give free chips and salsa.
