Holiday Inn Express & Suites Utica, an IHG Hotel in Utica

Utica, Oneida County, New York, US
Arrived after driving in freezing rain from a funeral for a lifelong friend who had died of covid. When I entered the lobby to register, fully masked, the unmasked clerk said oh I forgot my mask, but were all done with masks. and proceeded to check me in unmasked. She continued to tell me about an earlier customer who had (inappropriately in the clerks opinion) admonished her for not wearing a mask. She also shared her opinion that vaccines dont work. I made a decision not to leave and find a safer hotel because of the driving conditions, and also opted not to engage her in conversation as I was anxious to get out of the shared air space as quickly as possible. Do not recommend.
If your in the Utica New York area I highly recommend the Holiday Inn on Wells Ave. I’ve stayed at this property on multiple occasions. There were times when things didn’t go as planned however the manager of the property (Nicole) saw to it our needs were met and followed up with us with upmost sincerity. You could tell staff was informed of our stay and what a difference it makes. I travel extensively and can tell you that not all hotels have this type of concern and hospitality. Great rooms and facility. Go Utica!
Needed a room for the night as we were on a travelling, no agenda vacation. We traveled as far as we felt comfortable and would stay where ever we could find a place to stay, at a reasonable price. Found this after checking other nearby hotel and decided to stay here, mainly due to proximity to highway and restaurants. The grounds looked cared for and the overall appearance of the facility looked nice. Check in was easy, and the rates were great and I thank you for the military discount. Asked about local recommendation for eating experience and was recommended a local Italian restaurant, which turned out to be a fabulous place that was our topic of discussion for several days after we arrived home, for a few days. The room was cool, the sheets on the bed looked and smelled fresh, the lights worked as they should, and the water was warm when we took our shower of the morning. There were plenty of outlets for our electronic equipment, laptop and phone chargers, plus a comfortable desk to work on. The coffee maker didnt want to work off the lamp plug in so moved to wall plug and worked great after that. The only minus I will mention, was the breakfast, it was very disturbing. The food looked and tasted reheated and was not very inviting. We did find cereal and yogurt and fruits and juice that was ok. All in all very happy with stay. I know, because I stayed at a Holiday Inn last night.
The front desk manager, Nichole, was wonderful to my brother and I while we were staying there. Excellent, warm and caring environment. Knowing this staff would be willing to go above and beyond to make our stay great is a lost art. It can be found there. Thank you, Nikki, and all your team.
Enjoyed our 2 night stay at Holiday Express Utica. Staff were great, room was spotless. Everything a person could want. Now the except for...breakfast for 2 days: We were told that the full breakfast was now in place and to look forward to hot and cold items as breakfast choices. I cannot tell you how disappointed we were for our first breakfast. There were warm cinnamon buns, the pancake machine was not working, there was a very unappetizing sausage and biscuit offering, oatmeal was edible but dry, the juice machine was not working and there was no milk or cream for coffee or cereal. Suddenly, a gallon of milk appeared from somewhere. Oh yes, there was bread for toast, biscuits, and another item in the bread box. The hostess was frantic running around trying to make coffee. We were told that the delivery truck had not arrived. The next morning the breakfast situation was even more depleted. At least the sacred mild was almost gone and we(the other guests) shared what we could. There was no hostess, but the front desk person immediately jumped in to make things better as best she could. However, there were no cinnamon buns, toast, oatmeal, milk. There was that nasty sausage gravy again. No one touched it! Finally, the truck arrived!!! All available staff pitched in to unload and unpack. Unfortunately, it was too late to prepare and serve whatever arrived. Dont get me wrong, the staff did what they could do. Kudos to them. Dont know what the problem was with the delivery. Can only guess...but breakfast for both days was not a pleasant experience.
Positive: Location Negative: Yes, we spent 5 nights and our rooms were not cleaned for even one day and I requested for the rooms to be cleaned but, they did not at all. We used the same everything we met there from day we checked in till the day we checked out. We were disappointed.
I thought the hotel was just OK. When attempting to check in, I had to wait approx 10 min for the receptionist to come to the front desk. There were 2 other people waiting there as well. We even tried calling the hotel to get someone to the desk. When I got to my room, the bathroom had hair all over the floor, tub, and sink. Overall my stay was good…. Need to focus more on cleaning rooms. Not worth the price I paid though.
Nicole at reception was the best from the moment we arrived until we left. she could not have done more, could not have been more responsive or helpful. We got there late but felt at home the moment we arrived because of her. The breakfast was plentiful and delicious each morning-a great benefit to the visitors. the gym was tiny but ok. the pool was clean and indoors.
This hotel is not well kept what-so-ever. Outside is littered with cigarette butts, inside has beer cans and bottles all over the place. The common areas were sticky and dusty. The room was just as sticky and dusty. The beds were as hard as a rock. The HDMI cord was all ripped up so I couldnt connect my laptop to the TV for streaming. On top of it all, good customer service was non existent at this location. Personally, I would avoid staying at this IHG branded hotel unless youre getting a super low rate on a room. Like a motel 6 rate.
Not bad but not the best. Some of the bathroom fixtures were rusted. Bathroom didnt lock. Tub didnt drain. When we mentioned it to the front desk staff they nicely said..oh so sorry.. but did nothing to compensate us.Beds were comfortable. Fridge and TV. Gear restaurants chose by.The breakfast was good. The attendant at breakfast was so nice and welcoming. Very helpful.
I have stayed at this hotel a few times and will continue to stay here. They offer very clean rooms and a great continental breakfast. The staff is always friendly and accommodating. This hotel is right on my way to my customers businesses and allows me enough time to have a good breakfast and make it to the sites on time.
The hotel staff was great! The pool wreaked of chlorine, which to me was a good sign. The breakfast was decent. The only two complaints are that the room seemed to be cleaned in a hurry, leaving half of the bedding hanging from the mattress, the toilet paper looked like it was torn into in a hurry and the desks were only half wiped down. The second thing was that there were no blinds and the curtains didn’t close, leaving only sheer curtains. So when the sun was shining early at 5 am, so was my young son, leaving me to also be up at that time when we didn’t get to sleep until 2 am. That certainly put a damper on my day.
Great location. Clean. The staff was experienced and knowledgeable. I felt very safe. The parking lot was well lighted. The one thing that could be improved was the breakfast. Although the breakfast staff was wonderful, the food was lacking in quality and variety. My stay was wonderful. Cleanliness and bed quality is what i am looking for in a hotel and both were great at this location.
The hotel is clean and quiet but the breakfast is listed for 6am Monday-Friday well you can forget that! Never out before 6:30. The person preparing it just chats away in the kitchen. The grill outside is ready to fall off its stand. The room refrigerators either freeze you food or it never chills it.
We have stayed at this property many times before but not since the pandemic started in 2020. It was wonderful to see so many staff familiar faces. Longevity of employees is one key indicator of a good employer, particularly during trying times of a pandemic. Debbie greeted us warmly at the front desk. I remembered her face and name from before. Dan also interacted with us at the front desk and he was tremendously helpful too. The next morning I saw Jeanine at the breakfast room. She was wonderful and very helpful. I was sad to hear that she had just returned from 14 months of layoff, but nice to see she is back at the hotel. The pool was in operation and that was part of the reason we had such a good time. Thanks for a great stay. Much better than the Fairfield Hotel nearby.
My husband and I have stayed here numerous times while visiting our son at Utica College. It is clean and the staff is attentive if you need anything. I did however find the room we stayed in last time which had the 2 double beds was not comfortable. The bed was hard. The previous rooms we stayed in were Kings and those beds were much more comfortable. I don’t sleep well when I’m not at home so it could of just been me! We have never had an issue at this hotel and I’ve recommended it to many parents of Utica College students. My son graduated this past weekend so we have no need to ever return. But I’d always choose this hotel if we had to come back for any reason. Thank You for a great experience over the last 4 years. We’ve always felt welcomed!
I was extremely disappointed with the result of my stay and the service of the hotel. From the start the hotel did not appear to be clean as there were crumbs on the rug of the floor and there had been odd smells throughout the halls and inside of our room. Our room key hadn’t worked throughout the entirety of the stay as the battery of our door had been broken and flashes red every time we tried to get into our room. Every time we tried to get into our room it had taken 20-30 minutes each time as the front desk had only 1 person working and handling the situation. The front desk had not come around to open or fix our door so the room cleaning/ maintenance worker had let us in when they had been cleaning the room next to us. Finally on the last night someone came and tried to fix our door battery while we were trying to rest in bed around 11:30pm. They stayed and tried to fix the door for about an hour as screws were falling on the floor and we could hear them saying it was not working. The door battery was still not fixed and we had to leave our door open when going to get breakfast the next morning because we knew the people at the desk were not going to be of much help. While I stayed here my car had been broken into and had my MacBook Pro stolen. When I had asked the front desk for help regarding this issue they were extremely uncooperative and had an attitude about resolving the situation. They claimed that most of the cameras do not work and that there would be a manager around to help that never appeared. I was not updated by the front desk nor did anyone help us to try to get down to the bottom of this. I had had a police investigation at the hotel regarding my stolen property and even the officer had said the lady at the front desk had not been an easy person to deal with. I felt scared to stay here and did not feel like it was a safe environment. I drove 5 hours to Utica and had to extend my stay by one night because of the weather conditions. I truly wish there had been somewhere else available to stay because I feel I had a terrible trip staying at the Holiday Inn Express. I have stayed in many other hotels before and did not ever have any of these issues. I advise anyone to never stay here or at any Holiday Inn.
The room was clean and comfortable making it a relaxing getaway. Hotel is close to everything including the Adirondacks. The only issue was kids running up and down the halls and stairs at around midnight. This is more of a parenting or lack there of problem. Years ago if your kids acted up like that they would kick you out of the hotel but society has changed and maybe not for the better.
As Holiday Inn Express goes, this one doesnt rate high. It is independently managed—that is, not by Holiday Inn itself—and it shows. There is a worn-around-the-edges feel to the place: e.g, peeling veneer in places. The electronic keys are squirrelly and the WiFi is temperamental. The breakfast choices are thin. One has the feeling of some budget-conscious corner-cutting here and there. Also, it is grossly overpriced—the previous night we stayed at a Holiday Inn Express in Toledo, Ohio, that was significantly better, but this one in Utica cost $50 more after taxes. The inspector general for Holiday Inn should pay this place a visit. To be fair, it is very clean, all the expected Holiday Inn services are there, and it is very close to I80; had we not stayed in a better Holiday Inn Express the night before we would not have noticed the contrast. However, the price is clearly too high regardless of any comparison.
The very nice lady at the front desk at check in was very nice, polite, warm and efficient. I asked for two extra towels and she immediately supplied them. After visiting our room, I didn’t see any wash clothes so I went back to the desk to ask for some. She again complied. You have a treasure in that person.
Good location. Overall room was quiet if you closed the bathroom door, there was some type of mechanical noise coming through the bathroom vent. Moldy bathroom baseboard and shower. Windows dont open and there is no way to get fresh air in the room. Staff was pleasant enough.
Such a nice convenient QUIET place to stay, back from the road, so no traffic noises. Staff were very accomodating and helpful. Facilities were neat and clean. Cinnamon rolls at breakfast were delicious and the coffee was as well. This hotel is very convenient to most Utica attractions.
The door on the bathroom had water damage and hung poorly to where it would not latch. The room upon checkin was clean but not fully stocked with coffee, enough towels and toilet paper for a 2 bed room. Cleaning crew did stock the first day when asked by myself for certain things. Also, no fan in the bathroom caused condensation on the mirror, making it hard to get ready while somone was showering. Room was dimly lit.
There was mold in the bathroom sink and the bathtub. Seeing the mold, we had concern over what else may not have been thoroughly cleaned previous to our visit. It also would have been appreciated had there been more pre-packaged options for breakfast as advertised. There was only pre-packaged OJ as an option for juice and the juice machine was out of order. The milk was a gallon jug instead of individual cartons of milk. When we arrived at the hotel, I waited to check in at the front desk for at least 5-10 minutes. The employee apologized when she walked in the front door saying she was walking the exterior of the building. When we came downstairs after arriving, there was no one at the front desk. In the morning when we were checking out, again, there was no one at the front desk after waiting 2-3 minutes.
We came to Utica for a business/leisure trip. The desk clerk was simply darling. Gigi made sure our stay was comfortable. We took a walk downtown at night, not a far walk at all and enjoyed the old architecture, friendly and safe atmosphere. There are plenty of food options and a quick mart in walking distance. We wanted pizza delivered and Gigi hooked us up with her favorite choice, we loved it. I recommend this IHG family hotel. Just note, if you want to use the pool, check in advance if its open. Unfortunately we didnt get to swim due to repairs.
Not bad however, ask for the 3rd Floor unless you want people n kids stomping over your head. walls are thin, beware...Checkout is at 11am however housekeeping will try and bust down your door at 8ish for you to get up and get out now. Put the do not disturb sign out to avoid this!!
The main reason for the lower score is the “complementary breakfast”.I am currently in the middle of a 5 day span staying here and everyday I’m here there is less being offered. No bacon, no cinnamon rolls, no pancakes, no English muffins or bagels, no coffee except I’m the lobby and that’s hit or miss, no biscuits just gravy because they never made any more and just decided to take away the sign. Most of the butter packets sitting out are open and the cream cheese that says keep refrigerated is not being kept cold. So long story short if you like oranges and turkey sausage your in luck but other than that don’t let the enticement of a free breakfast sway your opinion because there isn’t one.
Room was comfortable and everything was sanitized, including the remote. The bathroom was immaculate. The beds were comfortable but I could of used an extra blanket since it was a bit chilly during the night. Other than that, the rest of my stay was unremarkable and extremely comfortable. Staff was extremely friendly and kind.
When a few minor issues arise, staff were accommodating - tv not working, switched rooms; no parking due to construction vehicles in lot, front desk allowed parking out front; unable to print documents in business center, front desk printed via email. Although most staff were friendly, upon check out front desk couldn’t take 2 minutes to help my son find a hot chocolate packet and then refused to unlock dining area to use microwave for drink. Not a nice way to depart!
Upon arrival, we were greeted by a very friendly and helpful front desk staff person named Debbie. She set the tone for our stay inn a very positive way. The room was just fine with the exception of the fold down HC seat in the shower. It had definitely seen better days. But it was still usable and really didnt retract from the rest of the room Room was very clean, and while the mattress was a little firm for my liking, the pillows (firm or soft) made up for it. Fresh linens, a decent breakfast and a good nights sleep. Most likely we will stay here on our return trip!
We have stayed here many times. The rooms are always immaculate. The front desk staff is always helpful & pleasant throughout the stay. We are happy to see the extra safeguards in place during the Covid 19 pandemic. We will continue to stay here a few times each year.
I have stayed at this hotel twice in the past two months both time I have been given a room with TVs that do not work. Both times I had to go to the front desk to tell them. They gave me keys to another room and I had to go to that room to see if the TV works. They did so I had to go back to the first room to get my things and move them to the new room and then go back to the front desk with the keys to the original room. This is unacceptable. I was told on first stay they were changing out out TVs and I must have gotten a room that was not done yet. One would think those rooms would be blocked out so someone does not have to go through this. Guess I am finding a new hotel to stay at next month when I head to Utica.
Great service! This is what stands out the most to me. The staff at check in and breakfast were exceptional. The room and bathroom were clean and spacious. The bed was comfortable and clean. There was no problems with noise or any comfort. I wish there was more variety at breakfast but otherwise I would definitely stay again and/or recommend the location.
We were pleased with this stay and when there were minor issues with our first room staff promptly and correctly responded, we were moved to a larger and better room. The pandemic restrictions mean that there isnt a breakfast buffet for health safety reasons, but breakfast is still available to order. Beds were comfy.
A very typical Holiday Inn experience. Just what you’d expect minus the breakfast. This location is making a grand attempt at recovering the pre-pandemic breakfast standards. Food choices were limited and the supply wagon was unreliable. By the time you stay I’d expect the location to recover.
These newer Holiday Inn Express hotels are wonderful in my opinion. The staff were excellent, especially the front desk personnel who were very friendly and accommodating. The King Suite room was amazing. Large and spotless with such a comfortable bed bed, and amazing pillows that I never wanted to get up. The bathroom was large and spotless with plenty of towels and toiletries along with a great shower head. The heating and air worked perfectly which isn’t the norm in many hotels and the unit itself was clean with no odor. The room itself smelled fresh and not that musty smell. For Utica, NY I think the hotel room rates are way over priced but that’s only my opinion. Overall. 5-stars and more to this Holiday Inn Express
While on a long road trip we made a late night phone reservation for a room and received confirmation that one was available. Arrived at hotel 20 minutes later. Desk clerk could not find her glasses so I had to eventually giver her mine so she could look up reservation. She had it in system then told us there were no rooms available. We ended up having to sleep in our car in a rest area that night. Highly disappointed in IHG.
From the moment we arrived, we could tell that this location was definitely set apart from the rest. From the staff, who went out of their way to accommodate my special needs, to the room, pool, dining room, we were impressed. We will stay here again when visiting family, or for any other reason were in the area.
It is always nice to walk into a hotel and feel like you are at home. The staff I interfaced with during my visit did that for me at this location.Only complaints I have with the room is that the work desk is too tight to the bed and the TV is mounted flat to the wall so it is not easily viewable from anywhere other than the beds. The breakfast is probably the most minimal I have seen during the Covid pandemic with just a small breakfast sandwich and a small orange juice.
I’m overall very happy with all of my stays at the Holiday Inn. Always felt safe and comfortable staying at all of the locations I’ve been. Only thing I was a little disappointed on was how many Spire Membership points I had to use for my last stay. It was double what I usually use. Other than that everything was satisfactory.
I stayed overnight. Front desk was friendly and the cleanliness of the hotel was good. Because of the circumstances you have to choose what you want for breakfast from very limited choices and it’s bagged for you to take with you. The breakfast was awful and both phones in the room didn’t work. Also the smoke detector was literally dangling from the wall but room was spacious.
The hotel itself is newer and in good shape. Unfortunately there is a lot of construction going on and the street leading in is in need of repair. The bed and pillows were great. I was able to sleep good every night. The fitness center sucked. Dont expect to get a workout in. Breakfast was adequate wouldve liked different choices but there was enough to get by each morning. My bathroom was dirty the shower curtain was stained as was the shower wall. Ran out of tissues and the maid never replaced them until I saw her and asked for some. Could be a great place needs attention to detail. Also is within walking distance to some good places to eat.
The last time that I stayed at a Holiday Inn was over 35 years ago. Since I have not stayed at one for so long, I was a bit unfamiliar with what I would be getting, but the hotel staff was extremely friendly, the room was very clean and spacious, there was no noise and we all had a good night’s sleep.
The hotel staff were polite, and professional. The hotel checkin and checkout was seamless. Most importantly during these times, the hotel was clean. I traveled with a young child and was pleased to see there were safety precautions in place. I will definitely consider returning if I need to stay in the area again.
I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express on 23 Wells Street, Utica, NY. This is the first time I have had to travel for business. I am glad that this is the place I decided to stay. They really cater to people traveling on business here. Check in was a little busy but the nice lady at the lobby desk said it was a full house that night. I had left my tax exempt form in the car and she quickly printed another one for me to fill out. That was well over and above in my book. The room was very clean and well stocked, there was a Keurig and K cups plus all the other little extras. I realized I had forgotten to restock the shaving cream in my shower bag after an incident during my last trip. Sure enough that nice lady at the lobby desk had complimentary packets of that as well. The added hospitality of the morning breakfast was also very nice. What an especially nice added bonus that there was a small indoor pool and beautiful fitness equipment available. This could not have been a better experience for me except if the fruit at breakfast had been fresher. Check out could not have been easier since my bill had been delivered to me when I woke up. I will seek out a Holiday Inn Express whenever I travel in the future. Thank you and the nice lady at the counter for a great stay.
Our stay was phenomenal. The staff was so polite, pleasant, ready and willing to help. We just wanted to have a night away from home for our grandchildren and the pool was perfect for them. They swam for hours! The breakfast was the best continental breakfast We have ever seen with an all inclusive price. The room was very clean and the beds were ok (we have a sleep number so it’s hard for us to judge it fairly). Kierych coffee pot in the room.
Driving all day, it was a relief to see the big Sign Holiday Inn Express going down the highway. We were greeted with a smile and made to feel welcome right away. The clerk, Debbie worked with us on a reasonable rate so we could afford to spend the night. She also gave us information on restaurants close by that we could walk to and that was such a relief not to have to get back in the car. The room was very comfortable and we had plenty of room to bring in our luggage and not feel crowded. The breakfast was very good with quite a few choices to make. Very enjoyable stay !
I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express, and my stay was incredible. The pool was a little small but my kids loved it. The breakfast had a wide variety and was very delicious. The bed was very comfy but the pillows were very uncomfortable. The bathroom was very clean but we did run out of conditioner. I forgot a hair dryer but the hotel had one for me and it worked great! I recommend this hotel to all!
This facility represents what we have come to expect and why IHG properties are our first choice of hotels to book when we travel. The Utica Holiday Inn has well designed and appointed rooms and common areas. Everything we encountered was spotless and well maintained. It’s wonderful to quickly locate conveniently placed outlets for recharging our electronic devices. Linens in bed and bath were top notch. Nozzle in shower was great for washing and rinsing long hair. (No frustration at all here with lame water pressure!) Breakfast area as well met our expectations-especially for five year old grandson who felt empowered pushing a button to make his own pancake! That’s an improvement over those old fashioned flip waffle makers.
We were on our way home from a trip throughout New England and arrived late with no reservation. The check-in staff was excellent and got us into our room quickly. Room was clean and spacious! The full breakfast was excellent as usual but would like to see more fresh fruit offered like strawberries, blueberries, melon, etc. The bacon was fully cooked which we especially appreciate!
Front desk person was pleasant and very busy. Hand sanitizer available in entry way. Rooms were clean and comfortable. Bagged breakfast was provided made to order. Problems were we did not have soap or hand santizer in our bathroom, and even though I mentioned this to the front desk it was never brought. Masks were not worn by other patrons in common spaces. These two things should be addressed.
Stayed 4 days 3 nights. Upon arrival the staff was courteous, the rooms clean and well cared for. Unfortunately the following day we discovered that the cleaner for our room stole prescription medication. I reported it hoping the cleaner had found it and moved it, truly knowing I had not left it out but didn’t want to accuse anyone just in case we came across it. I was told that the person who cleaned my room was no longer there to speak to but the service manager would be informed and she would be in touch with me. We were there 2 more nights and nothing. Not even when we checked out was it brought up. Very disappointing. Would not recommend this hotel.
I have nothing bad to say about this hotel. The place was clean everywhere. Debbie was friendly and helpful when we checked in. The star though was Janine. Janine managed the breakfast and it was great. The room was clean. She patiently explained the food options to me. And, I thought it was great that she helped a family with 2 young kids. I would hire Janine is a second.
This place wa an excellent place to stay for a meeting or leisute stay. It was convient and close to the exit off I-90. Close by are several Restaurants within walking distance for a nice evening dinner. The staff was very courteous and friendly. The only improvement I would suggest is that they expand the exercise room. It was a little crowded with only three people there in the morning. There are treadmills and some weights however there was not a bench to use the weights or room to workout without bumping into the other equipment. The price of the room included a breakfast. For me they provided enough choices for me to eat a good breakfast and be on my way.I would recommend this place and I would return.
Friendly staff in all areas of the hotel. The bed was comfy and room spacious enough for 2 adults a 5 year old and a 1 year old. Internet connection was fast and cable tv had more than enough channels. The whole room was clean and the bathroom spotless overall the entire hotel was clean top to bottom!! Daughter loved the pool very basic but clean. Breakfast was great lots of selection from the usual fruit, bagels, toast and cereal to pancakes, muffins, eggs and sauasages. Great location too just off the highway. This is a very clean and secure hotel every need was meat.
My husband and I first stayed here when we were driving through a snowstorm on I-90 in November 2019 and decided to stop for the night. It was such a great experience we stayed here again in January 2020.The front desk staff is friendly, the rooms are clean, the beds are comfy and the breakfast was simple but satisfying. The staff are very friendly and helpful at this hotel.
Nice stay; however the room next door downs alarm clock went off at 4:30am and nobody was in room. I rolled around for an hour or so and was forced to get up. Didnt need to get up that early for fist appt starting at 8am....Other than that, things were good for a Holiday Inn Express.
From the moment I walked in, I knew it was going to be a good hotel. I was greeted by a friendly staff member and quickly taken care of. My room was well maintained and the bed was just right. The pillowscases actually said if the pillow was firm or soft. Also the internet speed was fast enough to play online games. Breakfast was on par as well. My only complaint is the fitness center. It had weights, but no weight bench. Just not enough for a workout.
There was plenty of parking here. Newer hotel, five years old. Lobby was clean and welcoming! Had a double bed, room. Plenty of space, bathroom was clean with little extras. The complimentary Breakfast was better than most hotels that I have stayed at. Staff was kind and helpful. The only thing negative was they had computer issues when I was trying to check in, but Im sure this was a isolated incident.
Our room was large with 2 comfortable queen beds and a sleeper sofa. Two tvs with their own remotes. The bathroom was big.We used the microwave and nice sized in room fridge. The staff was all genuinely warm and friendly. The small breakfast selection changed slightly each morning which was nice. We enjoyed how quick and convenient check in and check out were. We highly recommend this hotel.
We arrived very early but were given a room right away. No other hotel that Ive experienced has done this. The room was spacious, super clean, and very pretty and comfortable. The breakfast was much better than I expected, with hot food, hot coffee, a lot of choice, and a very pleasant dinning room. It was quiet at night, and extremely comfortable sleep. And it was easy to connect to their wi-fi.
This is a nice hotel overall. It looks like it was recently renovated. It appeared to be fairly clean. The location is convenient for restaurants and the Polar Express train station. I have 2 complaints - first is the small laundry bags that you cannot fit one adult’s clothes in from one day. Spend a little extra on the bigger drawstring bags. Second is that for more than 2 weeks after we left I got an email every single day to do mobile checkout. Once someone checks out, stop sending the emails. It was very annoying. I clicked on it a few times and it gave me an error code because I had obviously already checked out. We did not eat breakfast at the hotel or use any of the other facilities but the room was comfortable. The bed and pillows weren’t the best.
This was my first time in the area and first time staying at this property. The experience was fantastic from check-in to check-out. The hotel is new and is situated near a part of the Mohawk River, which provided a nice view and a great backdrop for photos. Plenty of area dining options nearby: both fast-food and upscale. The housekeeping staff was very attentive and responsive, ensuring the in-room amenities were stocked, and fulfilled request for extras! The room was extremely clean and comfortable – the bed and pillows was awesome! If youre ever in the area, I highly recommend Holiday Inn Express and Suites Utica!
We stayed here for a Business trip and they were able to accommodate us at the very last minute. The rooms were clean and the beds were so comfy. The breakfast in the morning was great. The price was a little to high but in the area all the prices for the hotels were the same. We will be coming back to the area soon and we will definitely stay here again.
We are frequently in the Utica area to visit family, and have become very familiar with the lodging available there. This was the first time we had stayed at the Holiday Inn Express, which has been open for only a couple of weeks. There were good points and a few that were not so good, and we are chalking these up to it only being open for a short time.First the good. The room was spacious and furnished nicely. Great TV. Bed was extremely comfortable and the bathroom was lovely. Lots of nice towels, toiletries, and good lighting. The front desk staff was very helpful upon check in and friendly. The breakfast was nice, fairly typical, but good, hot, and well supplied. On the side of not being good. The housekeeping staff needs to pay a little more attention to the room of the guest who is staying for a few days. While there were fresh towels and the bed was made, the coffee and its supplies were not replenished, nor were any bathroom toiletries. The room did need to be vacuumed and while it may have been, there were spots missed. While the rooms are nice, it is a noisy hotel. Sound does carry. Possibly that was because the guests around us were noisier than usual, but we did hear quite a bit of conversations and lots of water running. all of those things are pretty typical and wont make or break us staying again because we do take into consideration they have just opened. The only issue that we were concerned about was on Sunday morning there were employees in the breakfast room who seemed rather disgruntled. There was a lot of complaining about other coworkers who were not there and management. It was a long ongoing conversation that went on the entrie 20 minutes we were having breakfast. And these employees did not seem to notice or care that guests were in ear shot of their complaints and rants. We will give this location another try in the next month, hopefully then the little kinks will be worked out and their employees will be happier. If not, we will go back down the street and stay were we usually do.
This hotel is a bit expensive for what is offered. Breakfast was nothing special with the automatic pancake maker falling short. The curtains in the room did not move so the light in the morning is annoyingly bright. The front desk never had a staff member at it so I had to ring a bell and wait or call from my cell to talk to someone. They allowed for early check-in which was nice.
The hotel rooms were very nice and clean. the workers were very nice and they were very helpful. they helped us make our stay discounted and helped us find activities in the area and they had DVDs that were free to use in the hotel room which was nice. the pool was not the nicest but it was okay. we passed by a workout area and it seemed good.
We were in town for a funeral with other family members. We had several rooms booked for several nights. There were no complaints from any of the family members. The rooms were clean and the staff was always very friendly. Breakfast choices change daily so you didnt have to eat the same items every day. From the check in to the check out, all was great. I dont know if well be in your area again, but I have added this hotel to my favorites list, just in case. Thank you for your hospitality!
The hotel is quite new and that is nice. The bathroom is very clean and new and the quality of the linens is fine. There is a nice little shop where you can purchase snacks and meals. The washer/dryer is new and works well. The staff is generally very friendly and accommodating. That said, the walls are thin, so expect to hear your neighbors conversations and comings and goings. And the price is fairly steep, going up on whatever nights the hotel is expected to be more full. Not within the price range expected for this city. Finally, cost savings means that floors are not vacuumed nor linens changed unless you request it.
I have stayed here quite a few times and the staff is great. They are always helpful and friendly. They alone are the reason for the 4 stars. Unfortunately the walls and floors are paper thin. When buses come through with large crowds its hard to get any sleep unless you are a seriously heavy sleeper. I definitely recommend getting the top floor. Also on the weekend the restaurant in front is very popular and theres cars parked down both sides of the street and people directing traffic. Its a pain to say the least.
We stayed over a very busy Labor Day weekend. The hotel is new and refreshing. Even with the hotel booked up to what seemed to be full we were still able to have good parking at night and it didnt seem too busy in the common areas. Breakfast was about par with your staple items. There was adequate amounts for all the guest. All employees we came into contact with were very pleasant. My only complaint would be how hard the bed was. All other room amenities were very good.
This hotel did not meet our reasonable expectations. We booked a King, received a double instead, there was almost no water pressure (attached photos), the water was also brown/had black flakes in it (this was temporary as they had worked on the plumbing), the drains in both the sink and shower were broken, the light switch in the bathroom didnt work, the sink was dirty, and there was hair under a couple of pillows.
Day two of college move in trip! We booked this hotel as it gave us a very short drive into MA the next day. Both of us had an incredibly restful and relaxing sleep. The beds were super comfortable. Property was clean and facility was very nice.Great location off interstate. Would stay here again.
Very upscale for the area its in. Clean and comfortable. I had a great nights sleep - the pillows were awesome!! It had everything I needed and I didnt have to ask for anything except the shower curtain had been removed when I arrived and within a few minutes the receptionist herself came up and hung a new one. Everything is fresh and clean thats what I loved most about it. Staff were so nice!! You will not be disappointed.
If you think the Suite will be as advertised with 2 TVs dont count on it. Over the last year or more we have been able to call down to the front desk and get a TV for the parlor area brought in. Not this time... The night person at the front desk refused saying she would not take responsibility for that ?????? and then said that NO Suite rooms have a second TV anymore due to TVs breaking and not being replaced. Thank goodness for Daytime Brandy to at least take $10 off and give us some points BUT we still would have preferred to get what we expected in paying for a premium room. Seems that the owners are squeezing every nickel they can out of this property.
Overall a great experience. Staff is friendly, the beds and pillows are super comfortable. Very clean hotel close to everything in Utica. The pool is small, but we didn’t use it anyway, and most hotel pools are similar in size. Breakfast was exactly what I expected from Holiday Inn Express, that’s the main reason we choose them. The cleaning staff was some of the best I’ve ever seen, they really cleaned every room so well, and were so sweet.
The hotel was very clean, rooms very comfortable. Staff was quick to check in and with any questions. Breakfast variety was very good and breakfast area was kept clean. Fitness Center was a little small but had necessary equipment to get the job done while traveling. Noise level early morning outside the room was loud/woke me; or it could have been the room above me, hard to tell. It wasnt super easy to regulate the heat/air. The bathroom was very clean, however the lighting was somewhat poor. Overall, very good experience...the room was a bit pricey compared to other holiday inn express hotels Ive stayed at.
The rooms were clean and quiet. Staff was friendly and helpful. I would have liked the breakfast to have more variety (did not change much from one day to the next), but overall there were some good choices and plenty to eat. Check in and check out was fast and easy. Centrally located for Mohawk Valley attractions and a short drive to Cooperstown and Oriskany battlefield.
Overall stay was fantastic. Hotel is conveniently located near all major roads (thruway and highways) making my commute 15 minutes to family’s homes, Sangertown Mall, and local theatre/restaurants. The bed was uncomfortable and maid service showed up too early every morning. Complimentary breakfast was great and I loved the pancake maker.......made fresh while you watch. Hotel is set back far enough off the main road that you won’t hear highest traffic. Highly recommend and will be back.
Expensive for a chain hotel, but well with it! Super friendly staff. Extremely clean and comfortable rooms. It was quiet and we slept well. Breakfast had hot items like pancakes, eggs and breakfast meats. It was a nice breakfast. Coffee was really good for a hotel. This was an enjoyable stay and we wish every hotel on our trip was this enjoyable.
I was in town for some training and was ready to relax when I arrived back at the hotel. After a long day, I was able to come back to a clean, comfortable room with plenty of room to relax. Staff was warm and friendly. Beds were great and included pillows that were labeled softer or more firm. In the morning I was able to get a great breakfast in before heading back to training all day. Holiday Inn Express exceeded my expectations.
The staff at this hotel were all very friendly. We had one small issue with the bill - we had used points for the stay, but the bill showed that our card was initially charged for the room rate. This was corrected at checkout. The bathroom setup for the room was a bit odd. The sink area was open to the main room, and the commode was in a separate small room, but it was not uncomfortable. I do wish there had been a bathroom vent fan with a wall switch control, but I am noticing most HIE properties do not offer this. The furniture, carpets, etc. looked fine, and everything looked clean. The only real wear we saw, was that there were a lot of scratches on the inside of the bathroom door, through the dark finish. It looked as if a small dog had been locked in the bathroom and spent a lot of time scratching up the door in an effort to get out. These are small things, though. Overall, we felt we had a very comfortable and pleasant stay, and we would stay here again.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay from start to finish. The only issue I would say is that the family that was above In room 314 was very loud and had heavy feet so you could hear them walking above us and that basically woke us up early other than that, from receptionist entering the hotel, room cleanliness breakfast everything was absolutely perfect it was a great way for us to finish our vacation.
I was pleasantly surprised when I entered my room at the Holiday Inn Express and Suites in Utica, NY. I truly was shocked that I could get such a lovely room for the price! The beds and pillows were cozy and the bed linens looked and smelled fresh and clean! The bathroom and room itself were also VERY clean. I loved the modern decor! I had plans later the next day and asked for a late check out. I was granted it without hesitation. (I know that would have been different if they were very busy.) I went down to breakfast to take it to go and they provided me with a to go bag and everything! The hot food was tasty and hot! I could not have asked for more! :) A wonderful stay! The staff was all very kind and helpful. A true hotel gem in Utica!
We were dropping our daughter off at college and were very pleased with the hotel. It is relatively new and is in good condition. The staff was friendly and attentive. Breakfast was quite good. The only problem we encountered was that the doors on the rooms slammed loudly all night long. I dont think it had anything to do with the guests, I think it is the way the door is designed. I would definitely stay here again. The reason I said it was great for a short stay has nothing to do with the hotel. I wouldnt consider this area as a vacation spot, as some areas we drove through seemed unsafe.
Our family would like to thank Ms Ana, at the front desk. She was a wonderful and delightful person. She understood our needs and ensured that our stay was outstanding. The hotel is definitely a fine establishment. I have never stayed in an express hotel that offered such high quality. Being apart of IHG has made us appreciate our stays even more as time goes on. Please ensure that the staff is aware that the great dedication and work is well noticed. Thanks again. The Gordons
We had to spend the night in Utica after bringing our daughter to a college course. Hotel was very new. Rooms were spacious. Beds comfortable. Everything was clean. Pool was small but fun for our sons. Breakfast was OK. My boys thought the automatic pancake maker was pretty cool. The eggs and sausage looked a little instant. Muffins, yogurt, cereal and fruit were all good as were the biscuits. Front desk was courteous. We had lots of noise above us late at night. Seemed like two kids were running rampant in the room. Not the hotels fault. Poor parenting skills were evident. It took 2-3 calls to get it to stop. Not sure if that was the lack of response from the staff or a parent that just didnt care that their kids were so loud. This particular hotel is in a very unattractive spot. Actual hotel grounds are very nice and clean. It just sits in an ugly spot. But once the blinds were closed, it really didnt matter.
I spent one night at the Holiday Inn Express. The hotel is located between the Thruway and downtown so is pretty convenient to a lot of restaurants and the Thruway, but also sits back from the road so is pretty quiet. The hotel was clean, the AC worked well, and the top floor rooms have very high ceilings. More electrical outlets near the beds would have helped, but there were at least some. The staff was friendly. Breakfast was the typical HIE breakfast. Overall it was a good stay and I’d stay there again.
We have taken advantage of many free hotel breakfasts over the years, but this was the best, having individual cheese omelets, bacon, sausage, and warm cinnamon rolls. In addition, there were the expected bagels, toast, cereal, fruit, yoghurt, etc.I would guess that the hotel was only about 1 year old, so everything was new and very clean. The night staff was exceptionally friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our stay so much that we stayed there again on our return trip a week later.
We stayed in King bed Suite. It was a very spacious room were we could hang out and play cards. The room was very clean!!! It was also conviently located! The breakfast was great for my son who likes pancakes but I wasnt impressed. Overall we enjoyed our stay and would stay again.
Bed was comfortable and the met our basic needs. We didnt get the room we had booked, with two beds, instead it had one queen. We needed a handicap accessible room, which this was, however it was a struggle to get into the room as I needed to hold open the heavy door and manage to push my father into the room at the same time. The bathroom was very nice and handicap accessible. Overall it was an okay place to stay.
Upon arrival without a reservation, but Ambassador Gold members, we were treated very graciously by the front desk staff and given a room immediately. The hotel is great looking, and the rooms comfortable. Its clear that it was just constructed at there are still pencil measuring marks on the shower enclosure and plastic that wasnt removed completely from door hinges. The housekeepers have to pay a little more attention in the bathrooms, especially under the vanity and in the tub as there was noticeable debris and hair there.Breakfast was very good - the usual Holiday Inn Express fare, and in general we had a great stay. Wed definitely come back again when driving through New York.
The property was fairly new, nice and very clean. The rooms and bathrooms were clean and comfortable as well. Choice of firm or soft pillows was very nice. Overall, we thoroughly enjoyed the stay and would definitely stay there again. The only somewhat negative comments were about the breakfasts. The first day they offered some mystery eggs with cheese inside...similar to an omelet, but maybe fake or very processed eggs, I think. They werent bad, but not great. The 2nd day I didnt eat breakfast but my husband said they had real scrambled eggs and those were good, but the day after that, only the mystery eggs. He also mentioned that hash browns wouldve been a nice side dish, but the in-house kitchen may not be able to handle real meals - if there is an in-house kitchen. Lots of other breakfast options in the area, so not a huge deal. Id stay there every time I visit Utica.
The beds were comfortable and the room was clean. The staff was friendly. The rooms were noisy as you could hear everyone in the hall very loudly, especially when kids running through halls to all hours. The staff also could be heard very early talking and banging carts around. The breakfast was your typical egg beaters and reheated sausages. Coffee was awful. Dont count on a good breakfast here.
The hotel is clean and very nicely decorated. All staff I encountered prior to departing were extremely pleasant and accommodating. Very customer orientated. People I would be pleased to have representing my business. When departing I was quite disappointed in the lack of customer service provided by the front desk receptionist a female in her early 20’s ( her name began with an N). She indicated there was no manager on site or available to speak with me on a Friday afternoon during the summer when all new guests were arriving. When I inquired about would if there was an immediate need for management or an emergency she sarcastically replied she would call 911. I requested contact information for a manager or corporate she totally ignored me. It was unfortunate my visit ended this way.
We stayed here because the Hamptons pool was out of order. The Holiday Inn was able to accommodate us last minute. The Holiday Inn was willing to work with us as we were a group of 8 and wanted to eat take out together somewhere in the hotel. They gave us the use of a conference room but only until 7:00 pm. That was a little odd, but I suppose they were being respectful of the guests near that room. Maybe we looked like we might get rowdy. Ha.
One of the Best Holiday Inn properties I have stayed at.The rooms were clean and decorated tastefully. Comfortable beds and a Quality TV with great channel selection. I rate this a Big Value with all the amentities anyone would be happy with. Also the staff was friendly and very efficient and the wake-up calls were always on time and the entire Inn was pleasing to the eye.An excellent place to stay for my business trip.
The staff at the HI was great. They were all very friendly and greeted you with a good morning or have a great day. The breakfast staff woman was super friendly, asking how we slept, etc. The hotel is nice, clean and modern. The room itself was also nice and clean. The only complaint I have is that the walls are SUPER thin, and I could hear my neighbors most of the night. Ugh. Not what you want on a business trip/
Upon arrival front desk staff was without a mask and spent 5 mins explaining that she couldn’t cover her nose because she couldn’t see. Over several days both shifts did not comply. To our surprise one day there was a pile of laundry (dirty, clean?)heaped up on the counter. One morning we were told that there was no coffee because of low occupancy! Those that were there paid for a breakfast and we couldn’t even get a cup of coffee. Bad form! We understand the COVID circumstances but for 7 days we were offered the same exact bag to go of chocolate chip muffins, a tiny orange and strawberry blueberry yogurt. We stayed extra days and upon check out we wanted to pay with points and day cash but could not because the desk clerk didn’t know how to complete the transaction. Because we were in Utica from VA due to a death in the family we certainly would of left this facility but personal trauma kept us from the frustration of moving to another hotel. We have been members of the IHG club for years but are disappointed with this experience and must rethink using IHG in the future.
The hotel is beautifully decorated, clean, and well maintained. Most of the staff was reasonably friendly, too.At check-in, I was disappointed that there was no recognition for priorty club members as we have experienced at other Holiday Inn Express hotels. There was some slight confusion with the block of rooms I had booked, but the manager took care of it within a few minutes.Even though we could connect to wifi, it was beyond slow. The pool water did not seem to be heated and I do believe my core body temperature dropped about 15 degrees. Luckily, there was free hot chocolate! The worst part of our stay was that a large group of teenagers checked in and seemed to over take the hotel. They were quite loud and disprectful. In the pool, they had no regard for the rules or that our young children were in there. Same held true at breakfast the following morning. This hotel is close to the thru way and offers restaurants within walking distance.
The hotel is very new looking. Plenty of parking as we were pulling a small camper with us. The lobby/room were very modern, clean and updated. We were on the first floor at the end of a hallway. It was generally quiet. The exception is that early in the morning, you could hear noises from the plumbing in the rooms above us / around us. I am not sure if that is because we were on the ground floor. Also I did wake up to what sounded like a cricket in the room (chirping noise). I could not locate the source of the noise, and it stopped after an hour or so. To be fair, I did not alert the hotel staff to the issue because I assumed it was a fluke. The breakfast was very good with a wide selection of options. Overall, I was pleased with the appearance and cleanliness of the hotel.
I stayed at this hotel for 3 nights while in town for work. I arrived late the first night, after traveling for several hours. I got my key card and went up to my room only to find out both of my keys were not working. Instead of lugging all of my stuff back down to the front desk, I tried calling from the phone around the corner. No answer. So, I went back down and sure enough it wasnt keyed in correctly for the room number. Most of the stay was pretty typical...and then there was the last day. I didnt have to get up until about 9:00 that day, however I was in a room beneath a family with several rambunctious children, or a herd of elephants (I never did find out). Starting at 6 AM, I heard racing back and forth, back and forth. I tried to let it go, thinking theyd tire eventually. Then the shrieking and squealing began around 6:20 AM. By 6:30, I began trying to reach the front desk to see if they could kindly relay a message to the family upstairs that some people are still trying to sleep. However, similar to the first night, nobody would answer the front desk. I probably called down there 25 times between 6:30 and 7:15 AM, at which time I finally walked down there. I noticed my bill that came under the door was incorrect, so I asked for that to be updated. I also mentioned the loud noises above me for the past hour, and Meagan (the front desk clerk) was less than helpful (or polite). I had asked how one was to reach the front desk by phone, as I had been trying for nearly an hour and couldnt get through to anybody (message came on that the voicemail box was full). She pointed her finger in a downward motion and stated you press 0. I told her I had been trying that repeatedly and there was no answer. Her only response was that she was not in yet at 6:30 AM when I started calling. She said she would send maintenance up to address the noise. Needless to say, the noise was never addressed, at least not by my 9:45 AM checkout time. I travel frequently for work, and this has to be up near the top of my list of hotels to never revisit!
I liked staying here. It was between every location for the wedding weekend I was apart of. Because I would get done later in the evening, it was great because there are quite a few food options. The front desk associates were very friendly and super helpful, probably a couple of the nicest women I’ve encountered, though most Holidays Inn’s I’ve stayed at, the team members at the front desk are friendly which is awesome!!
I had a wonderful experience at the Utica holiday inn and suites. First I arrived at 10:30 PM and were greeted warmly by your amazing employee Debbie. She helped me Navigate through a terrible experience we had with booking our room through an online reservations site. She personally took it upon herself to reach out to the booking site to cancel the room and ensure we were refunded the overcharged bill they had conned us into purchasing. She then quickly rebooked a room directly at the hotel to make sure i had a wonderful room and stay that evening. Debbie was an amazingly helpful person.
Both my husband and I would like to know where you purchase your pillows and your towels. The pillows where very comfortable as I had a very good sleep.I have tried looking for the towels in many department stores. They were the perfect size. What more can I stay!!My husband and I would stay at your Holiday Inn Express when ever we visit Utica in the future.
We were very happy with the size and cleanliness of the room. The front desk lady at check in was very helpful getting information about a local church for us. But probably the best feature of this hotel is the super friendly and helpful woman that is in charge of the breakfast buffet. She is just lovely- her cheerfulness was infectious!
Doing some ancestor headstone restorations in the area. Two long days from sun up to sundown and couldnt ask for a better stay. From the time I checked in to the time I left. Great Staff Dan!! So good I had to come back!!! and see you guys in the spring Ill be back doing more restorations.
During my stay at this location I was treated with politeness and as if I was someone really important. The staff on hand were very nice and had no problem helping with any requests I had. The room was clean and The bed was exceptionally Comfortable. I was not able to experience the breakfast but was told good things by my family.
We had a great stay at the hotel. The rooms were clean and the staff was friendly. I especially like that the hotel is not pet friendly. My daughter is allergic to dogs and cats so it’s difficult to find places to stay at, at times. The breakfast staff was very friendly and kind, good selection of food. My family was very happy with this hotel.
This hotel is perfect for people who dont want to overspend but do want spotless rooms and helpful staff! Absolutely perfect! Ive paid significantly more for much less. The rooms are spotless and nice and big and the beds are very comfortable. My new fave since I have a son at a nearby college (Hamilton) and will be a frequent guest. Bonus points because its right across the parking lot to an excellent restaurant!
Excellent location (off highway and new area with new development of more restaurants and hotels). Excellent staff. Room was big, clean, updated. Toiletries are very high quality. Our only issue was noise level - we could hear everything along the corridor (we were in a ground floor room). Toilet was very noisy - when taking a shower and when guests on the upper floor turned on their taps.
The friendly staff went over and above to make our stay comfortable.Suite 317 was awesome. High ceilings, modern décor, clean and quiet. The room had plenty of work space, a wet bar, fridge, microwave and an area to comfortably sit to watch TV. It made for a very pleasant stay. The hotel has a DVD library and evening snacks which made our stay even more enjoyable. We will certainly be back again when in the area.
The hotel room was decent and the staff was friendly. However, there was construction in our hallway each day we were there (painting, hammering, sanding, etc). Construction was starting at 7am on Saturday and Sunday, which is really unreasonable. We didnt spend much time in the hotel room except to sleep at night, which we didnt sleep great because of the noise. Its unfortunate because the hotel itself was very nice but the construction noise really ruined the experience. We complained but I dont think it did anything to change the time the workers started.
The property appears well maintained and modern. The Staff we encountered was polite and helpful. The breakfast offerings are broad. The beds well-appointed and comfortable. And last but not least - this hotel is properly maintained from a pest management perspective.:Far too many motels / hotels are rife with bedbugs and roaches - a danger during ones stay and a greater danger as one transports these disease-spreading entities to ones home. Failure to maintain a safe, pest-free environment for guests is criminal. This facility stays on top of this issue and is pest-free. We feel safe when we stay here.
Upon arrival to the hotel l could see they were in the process of sealing the parking lot and painting the lines but there was still plenty of parking and it was not inconvenient. The property as a whole was exceptionally clean and inviting. The staff was very friendly and attentive to my needs. If ever in the area I would definitely book my stay there.
As we entered we were greeted by Ana and Yvette at the front desk who could not be more accommodating. Upgraded our rooms, without even asking. We were three families. Rooms were excellent clean brite. Staff was fabulous! Love the steak house in front of hotel. Breakfast at hotel was delicious! Thank you for a great weekend, we will be back!
Driving from Buffalo, NY to Maryland is a long trip for us now that we are older. The Holiday Zinn Express offers is the opportunity to stop and relax. During these COVID times, we were presently surprised to find things somewhat back to normal. We were even more surprised to find the pool was open. Our 9 yo grandson enjoyed the pool.We have stayed here before and it just gets better!DONY eat at the TGI Friday’s located in front of the property. Both times we have been here we have had a bad experience! But that’s for another web site survey.
The hotel staff, all the accommodations and food services were excellent. I have no complaints with the Hotel in general. We were disturbed by the very noisy up-stairs neighbor. They obviously had children who were up late (past midnight) and up early (about 7 AM). They must have had toys or something that made loud voice and often a loud crash and boom we could hear it over their TV . It was loud enough to rudely wake us in the morning. My wife spoke with the manager on duty and it did get better but not for long by any means.I have to thank the General Manager (I did not get his name) who called my wife on Monday 12/2/13. He apologized and offered complementary points. This was very nice and generous.I understand that things like this happen. I just want everyone to understand that in no way was this the fault of the Hotel staff.Thank you and we will be returning for more visits. I prefer this Holiday Inns over all other area hotels.Thank you for your continued efforts to make your guest comfortable.David Chanko
All of the employees I interacted with( front desk, food server and housekeeper) were friendly and helpful; and responded to my needs quickly. The room was clean and stocked. I had a little trouble turning the shower on; the person before me must have used a wrench to turn it off.
I will start of by saying I have been a loyal IHG member since 2015. I have had unbelievable experiences at numerous properties and so when I had to book a hotel for my work trip to Utica, I knew I would be staying at an IHG property. I chose this Holiday Inn Express and Suites at 23 Wells Ave, Utica because it was at a central location. Upon entering the lobby, I waited to be checked in and there were no issues at that time. I took my keys and I went up to my room. When I got to my room, I realized I was given the incorrect room as I reserved a one King size bed non-smoking room and I was standing in 2 Queen bed room, no big deal!!! Right!! I would just let the front desk personnel know and I would get that corrected, but that is not what happened. I went back downstairs to notify Debbie, the front desk personnel, that I reserved a one king size bed room but I got a 2 queen size bed room. Debbie quickly interjected to say there were no King size beds available. I indicated to her I reserved a king size bed room and my reservations confirmed that availability for my dates of 8/20-8/22. Debbie said sorry I have no King size beds available and you are currently getting the room at government rate, so you get what we have to give you. I was lost for words when she made that comment. I said to her ok. I went back to my room and immediately made a call to IHG customer relations. The representative was super nice and she was in disbelief once I told her Debbie’s disgusting comment. The representative attempted to resolve the issue by contacting the hotel directly in regards to not honoring the confirmed room reservation, but Debbie did not answer the calls made to the front desk. I received a claim# to use as a reference if there was no timely resolution. About an hour later, I went back downstairs to request a copy of my pending bill. At that time Debbie said, Oh I have a king bed now available for you! Housekeeping just released some rooms. At this point I was already turned off, but accepted the room change. I got to my new room and began to settle in. I wanted to request fresh bed lining so I called housekeeping at 6:30pm...no answer. I then called Guest Services...no answer. I called Housekeeing and Guest Services for a 2nd time at 7:45 pm...no answer. 3rd time at 8:10pm...no answer. 4th call at 8:50 pm...no answer. I was so upset at this point, I went downstairs to the front desk and there was no one there. It was as though I was on an episode of candid camera. It was such a terrible experience. I went back to my room, stripped all the sheets and pillow cases off the bed then went to sleep on the bare mattress...yes I did. In the morning, I woke up at 5:30 am and made a 5th call to Housekeeping at 5:40 am...no answer. I totally get if housekeeping works a standard 7-3 or 8-4 pm shift, but customers should be made aware of those limited hours if that’s the case. There was nothing at this Wells Ave Utica Holiday Inn Express stating anything like that. After my experience the first 12hrs at this hotel, the rest of my stay here was a blur. I did return to the hotel that evening to see new bed lining and pillow cases on my bed so that was a plus. I could not wait to complete my work trip because I needed to get out of this hotel. It was a 2 night stay so it wasn’t worth looking for another hotel. I will ask that if IHG wants to maintain its standards in customer relations and hospitality, this Holiday Inn Express at 23 Wells Avenue, Utica, should be the first to look at. Sincerely loyal customer.
The room was clean and hotel itself was nice but the service received from GiGi the front desk clerk was unacceptable. She needs to be more aware of hotel policy and follow through fully. As an employee its understood to do your job but dont try to cover your behind and leave the consequences for the guest to handle. Be a WOMAN OF YOUR WORD and a STAND UP EMPLOYEE at the same time.
I enjoyed my recent stay at the Holiday Inn Express in Utica. The room was clean and comfortable. The staff was friendly and helpful. The wifi signal was sufficiently strong enough for streaming media and there were ample outlets that were conveniently located for electronics devices. The walls of the rooms seemed to be a bit thin, which is common to most hotels Ive stayed at. This resulted in some disturbances during the night, but overall, the hotel was mostly quiet. I would recommend this hotel to anyone staying in the area for business.
Upon arrival, the outside of the facility looked wonderful. That never changed as I moved through check-in and in to the room--everything was clean...it even smelled clean! The staff were very courteous and asked if they could assist several times. I highly recommend this hotel. I will stay here in the future if travel plans allow.
We stopped in Utica late in the evening without a reservation, and the Utica Holiday Inn Express was able to provide us with a room. We were pleasantly surprised...this was a new hotel, and the decor was extremely nice. It seemed much nicer than the usual Holiday Inn Express. The staff was friendly and helpful, the morning breakfast was great...I only wish they had kept the waffle makers when they came out with the new pancake makers. The only real problem here was getting TO the hotel...it sits in a lot behind an Italian restaurant off the main road. During the day, theres no problem, but its a bit confusing at night. However, we were able to get to the hotel, and had a very nice meal at the Italian restaurant, which is within walking distance. All in all, I would highly recommend this hotel.
This hotel was very nice. One of the newer hotels that we have stayed and we enjoyed the look. The staff was excellent especially at check in. Made us feel welcome. The staff was knowledgeable of the local restaurants and activities. The House Keeping in the room was very good, with ample towels and space.
Nice hotel but certainly lacking in upkeep of the maintenance.Carpet torn and other things in room that you would expect to have been replaced or fixed.Worst breakfast I have ever experienced at hotel breakfast buffet. Eggs were scorched so they were discolored and crusty. At least the fruit and cinnamon rolls were good to eat!
Was in the Utica area for breavment and the Holiday Inn Express stepped up and welcomed us and did all they could to make is at home. The staff at the counter, to the breakfast staff and the maid services were great. Bed was so comfortable and room was clean. It was great to come into the hotel and have a fresh cookie and coffee was always available in the breakfast area. Highly recommend this hotel.
We spent a few days in the area and at the Turning Stone Casino. We were looking for proximity to the Casino and stores. We got a great room, with selection of pillows, super comfortable mattress, large shower in our room, along with coffee maker and refrigerator. The breakfast was just right with some simple hot and cold foods. The dining area and fireplace and entry lobby area we well laid out, clean and up to date. I would stay again.
Hotel was built in November 2012, so everything in the hotel is new. Rooms were large and beds were very comfortable. Staff was incredibly friendly and checkin was speedy. Disappointed in how easily the noise could be heard inside my room from kids that were next door. Breakfast was really good, just wish the attendant could have stocked the hot food a little quicker.

2022-02-22Awesome room at a very affordable price. The cleaning guy who knew we were staying an additional day was very surprised when he walked in and found we had left but came back in about 10 minutes. Not sure what he was up to. But weve got a pretty good idea he was casing out our room after he watched us leave but failed to see we had came back. Shady Id say. But otherwise a nice stay.

2022-05-05I made 3 trips to Utica, NY in the past 5 months and stayed at this hotel every time. The General Manager Nicole and her staff were very friendly and helpful throughout my stay here. As many times as I have stayed at different hotels I have never met the GM but Nicole was always out and about to ensure everyone of her hotel guests were always taken care of. This is a GM that cares about each of her guests needs and ensures that they have a great experience at the hotel. Thanks again Nicole to you and your staff for making my stay here at the hotel a great experience.

2022-05-29The staff as very friendly. And the stay was not too bad. There were just some minor inconvenience we ran into. The pool was down so we had to go to the Hilton across the way to swim. The microwave in our room, while we didnt ended up needing to use it, was broken. The door would not close and just swung open. I was also a little disappointed im the gym/fitness center. Just one treadmill, bike, and an elliptical. With a few free weight dumbbells. The breakfast was really good though with a wide choices of options.

2021-12-17The holiday inn is a really nice hotel, it was easy to make a reservation online. The room was so nice with a four post bed and really comfortable chairs. The room was clean and very well set up. It would have been nice if there had been a channel guide in the room , but my stay there was top class. Will stay here again when in the area.

2022-05-16IHG diamond elite member here. I am in hotels 4 nights a week for work. Stayed 2 nights at this one. Checked in and found out that a water main in the hotel broke. Plumber is on the way, should be fixed soon 24 hours later they finally got the water back on. Bill was originally $376 but they charged me $360. So 24 hours without water and because of that, no breakfast the following morning either... Refunded $16. I understand things happen that you just cant control but... 24 hours without water and I got a $16 discount? Not even some extra points? Other than that, the staff was friendly, hotel has a good location and room was decent.

2022-04-25The room was lacking a pen and pad of paper. The front desk was able to provide a pen from what appeared to be their office supplies. The television worked fine but the channel guide was missing. The front desk was able to supply a channel guide for analog channels. The problem was the TV channels were digital. The channels were on the guide were in the correct order, so the guide still provided some benefit. I brought this to the attention of the front desk and the response was that needed to fix this. On morning one, the OJ was empty and their were no paper plates. I brought this to the attendant and the problem was corrected promptly. Morning three, there was no attendant present. A cleaning person that passed thru was able to refill the forks on the counter after I approached her.

2022-05-03The hotel was clean, but very noisy. I believe the hotel was fully booked and 10-12 year old boys running up and down the hallways yelling was not ideal. I do not blame hotel staff, I blame the parents and guardians. My only complaint is, there was a dirty washcloth hanging on my shower rod that was from the person before me. Other than that, my stay was good and I will stay at this hotel again.

2022-02-04Fairly well kept and friendly staff, but an old building, and they are clearly understaffed. The PTAC unit would only run at low speed, and when I first arrived a used washcloth has been stashed where it wasnt seen by the cleaners.Trash pickup was delayed.Breakfast was spot on for people who just need to wake up before work.Overall would recommend.
