My husband & I stayed at the Holiday Inn Express in Owego, NY for a few nights when we came to town to attend his grandmothers funeral. We didnt want to spend a lot of money on the hotel, but we wanted to be sure our room was clean, comfortable, and convenient. Our room did indeed meet all of these criteria. Our room was quite clean and had a comfortable king-sized bed, a full bath with all of the basic amenities, a desk & chair, a large TV with cable, as well as a mini-fridge and coffee maker -- ALL for just $79/night (plus taxes & fees). We would absolutely stay here again.
Room was clean and comfortable. Had cookies and fresh brewed coffee available on check-in. The elliptical machine had a wheel broken, and treadmill elevation did not work right in exercise room. Had to tell front desk several times that something needed to be done in the breakfast area. Beautiful view of the Susquehanna River.
The cons: I found a lighter under one bed. The other bed had 2- 12 x 6 stickers under it. This makes me doubt that our room was properly cleaned. Breakfast was okay. The pancakes which were hot, but took a little bit of a wait. There was no eggs and very little bacon on the buffet. The pros: the staff was very friendly, courteous and professional. Hotel appearance was clean and orderly.
Ok hotel. Staff are friendly and helpful. Breakfast is standard. Rooms are fine. My room was missing the translucent curtains so if I wanted any outside light in my room I would be letting anyone in the parking lot see inside.Wifi was really bad at nights when everyone was on the internet. Speed test was showing about 0.5 - 0.7 mpbs last night around 8pm. Painfully slow..Tv signal is decent this time around. Some choppiness. During my first stay, the TV signal was really bad and many channels were unwatchable. I guess it depends on what room you get.
Located along the Susquehanna River...some rooms have a view of the river and others....the trees. Hotel recently renovated and still ongoing...not bad. We had a King size room....small and not too well lit being under the trees. Nice huge walk in shower. Part of two other sister hotels....The Hampton, which is where you can use their indoor pool and a restaurant, the Rivers Edge, located in the Treadway Conference Center, with the Red Roof in the same complex. The rooms have all been renovated with new carpet, etc. But the bed should have been replaced. Not firm...very mushy...very uncomfortable
I arrived on 22 Nov very late at night. As I was trying to get my children in bed, we noticed loose dirt under the blankets on the sheets. We wiped it off and went to sleep. The next day when we woke up, while we were getting ready to visit family for Thanksgiving, we noticed how dirty our room was. I took a few pictures of the room that I will share. We tried to grab a small breakfast at the hotel, but everything that I grabbed was hard. The muffins and bagels were hard. The rest of the hot food did not look like it was heated only one time. Looked like they had been heated over and over again. At this point I walked across the street to McDonalds to get something I felt was safe to eat. I have a list of all the things in my room that was nasty. List: Kitchenette sink crusted with dirt in drain and did not drain very quickly, every corner of the bathroom had dirt, genital hair in the bathroom in one corner, fan did not work in bathroom, big dust ball or something in the fan vent, dirt on bed, disgusting food that is probably not up to ServeSafe standards, tried 3 different sodas in vending all sold out, a handful of channels on the tv did not work, only offered 1000 for all my problems, never received a call from management. I grew up in this area and only use the hotel when family doesnt have room available, but I must say that this hotel is getting worse with every visit. And this was my last time staying at this particular hotel. It felt very much like a motel and not the typical Holiday Inn that Ive stayed at all across the country. On a positive note, the staff that I encountered was very friendly.
Place is nasty, save your money and sleep in your car. There were bugs on the floor in our room, and it smelled nasty. I wouldnt walk around in the rooms without shoes on. Very outdated and I dont think they even have maids. Oh and the workers decide to paint the lobby at 3 a.m. these idiots dont have any consideration for there guests.
I stay at a lot of IHG properties, especially HIEs. This was a very clean and well maintained facility. The staff was very nice and helpful. They put up with me and my buddies that were there for the Spartan Race nearby. They joked and laughed and took care of us, even giving me free toothpaste and a toothbrush when they heard I was to run out to buy them.
This place cares for their residents as much as they do for their employees which is they dont. Dont bother staying in any hotel these people own or run in Owego NY, the Express, the Red Roof or Hampton. All ran by the same people and at the Red Roof the housekeeper which is a family member of the general manager is an alcoholic and steals beer from residents refrigerators and they have been rumored to have bed bugs, stay away, especially when there is nicer hotels in Sayre, Vestal and Nichols.
I was traveling for work and had no say in where I stayed but was pleasantly surprised. The location was great, my room had a river view, and the staff was friendly. The room was spacious and clean. The only minor complaint is that the walls are thin and I could hear my neighbors talking. Otherwise everything was great and Id be happy to stay here again.

2021-08-01My experience here was terrible. Much of it was due to an ongoing renovation, so it might get better over time. Here are some of the problems. There is no public 1st floor Mens room, we had to use the womens bathroom as unisex. The fitness room is under construction. The business center was closed. The ice machine on my floor was out of order. There were no vending machines on my floor. The waffle machine was out of order. My windows were covered over with paper. My son found a cockroach in his bathroom.

2021-07-16Nice rooms, friendly staff, but service people never actually cleaned the room. Also breakfast was lackluster to say the least... Went on different days between 630am -730am and they had coffee and prepared foods in the fridge but very limited hot food if any.

2021-08-02We booked online and had no warning that the hotel was under construction. The outside looks like a broken down prison. I don’t hold that against them. It would just have been nice to know. The inside was pretty nice but definitely paint and new carpet smell. The front desk girl informed me they are in the process of switching brands and apologized for the mess. Our keys didn’t work the first time we got to our room which was on the 2nd floor and all the way down the hallway. The girl came back with me the second time to ensure the new keys worked. I’ve worked in hospitality so I’m thorough when I check a room. It didn’t take me long to know the room hadn’t been cleaned properly. Hair and possible blood stains on the bed and the shower was gross. The girl apologized and brought us keys to a new room. Upon inspection of the second room our window had been spray painted from the construction and there was a spoiled milkshake in our refrigerator. I called the desk and the girl came and took the trash from the fridge. The rest of the room looked decent enough so we stayed. In the morning when we checked out there was a young girl in a hoodie who clearly didn’t work there behind the desk eating cereal sitting. I found this very unprofessional. I won’t stay again. The first girl from the night before was the only pleasant thing about our stay. I think her name may have been Jasmine?

2021-07-13The staff are nice but the hotel is another promblem the rooms are small the beds uncomfortable when you take a shower you feel that you are going to fall through the floor the kitchen in the room is out dated the coffee maker is broken the windows in the room are covered up so you can not look out side.the breakfast the first day was fine but the second day it was nothing to choose from. The pancake maker was broken. Will not stay here again. I stayed in other holiday inn express but this is the worst.

2020-11-17I ended up staying at this hotel because I had driven across the US and after getting back into NY I figured that I should self quarantine for at least 2 weeks. This hotel had a fire while I was there that was pretty severe, no compensation was offered by the owner or manager. I had just finished making my coffee and I heard some strange noise out in the hall. I looked out there and I still that it was a fire alarm going off! I gathered some of my important stuff and made my way downstairs to the office, while walking to the main all there was smoke and a lot of water coming out of a room. When I went downstairs, the manager was just sitting there doing nothing. She wasnt trying to get the people out, or even go upstairs to see what the issue was. Felt that the manager endangered the people there including me. Another employee told me that housekeeping told the manager that she smelled something burning in that room. The manager did nothing about this step send her daughter upstairs to investigate cold her mother manager that she smelled something burning in the room. The manager did nothing! The hotel in general looks nice, but upon entering the hotel there is a septic smell all throughout. That doesnt surprise me because in my first room when I flush the toilet, feces came up in the shower! I was there for two and a half weeks and did not hear any housekeeping staff use a vacuum cleaner, especially in the hallway.. after I complained that the hallway was filthy I heard the girl the next day run the vacuum for less than 3 minutes. The rooms that I had did not feel clean. First room that I had I found two pair of underwear and a sock by the curtains. When I informed the front desk of this the girl just made a face. After the fire I asked the manager if there was going to be compensation because of the fire she said she was going to have the owner call me the owner never called me. No surprise...

2020-05-31I stayed here during the COVID-19 pandemic. Im an English Service Engineer, who lives in Asia as I normally cover that region. Nobody from England was able to travel so I picked up the Job.My first impression was very good, the staff were very welcoming and friendly. My room was very clean, had a fridge, microwave, super fast wifi, and a very comfy bed. Owego seems like a pretty good location, but I didnt get to see it all due to the lock down restrictions. On the evenings after work I would sit on the patio at the back of the hotel with a couple of beers and such a fantastic view of the river I was next to.There are all of the local fast food places close by too.Last of all, the staff were amazing. They made my stay great during difficult times. A big shout out to the mother and daughter at reception, and the house keeping lady. I truly hope to see you all again.

2021-08-07Disgusting. No one cleans this hotel. Will not respond to my concerns or complaints about unsanitary conditions. No regard for covid cleaning standards. Would not sleep on the bed. Would not eat in dining areA. Sticky dirt filled bedside table. Sheets unclean. BED BUGS.

2017-12-23I was pleasantly surprised when I arrived at this gem of a hotel. The staff was wonderful, everybody was so nice. The room we stayed in was a standard room, but they had a full sized refrigerator, a two burner stove and full bathtub. Besides that, the room itself was very spacious, and had great views of the river. Breakfast was nice, with a good selection to choose from, including cinnamon rolls. Would definitely stay here again, and recommend it to anyone.

2020-06-26I was staying at a near by hotel , and the room air conditioning wasn’t working in my room, at the other hotel . The front deck could help me fix, and didn’t have another room for us.I called holiday inn Express, and at 1 am , they were able to get my family a room for three nights. We pack moved to stay the night in room with air conditioning. In the morning the room we had wasn’t available for the next two days , the manager upgrades us to a nicer room for our two next day.We are in town to see my mother in hospice, we can’t thank everyone at the hotel more , everyone was so nice, and every time we were ask how the room was, and what they could do to make our stay better! What a difference form our first hotel. So to all at Holiday Inn express , OwegoThank you from the Johnston family!

2021-06-07If i could put 0 stars i would. We went to NY for a funeral and when we got there everything seemed great until we checked it. Barb at the front counter had us put our debit card in two different credit card machines (which we found out from one of the staff members there that one hasnt worked since she had been there). When we got to our room i seen that they charged us TWO TIMES! So we went down there and they said they would help us and told us to let us know when it went back into our account.. A few days past and our time in NY was over with. We went down there not happy at this point because Barb and the guy higher up still did NOT give our money back. She was very hateful and was refusing to do some thing to help us. She told me when we checked out that if the money still is not back into our account on Monday (today June 7th) to call her and we will figure it out. I called her and she still is refusing to give our money back saying its not on them, even when she let us put our card into a machine that did not work. So here we are still with them not giving our money back. So BEWARE if you go to this hotel and Barb is working there, pay with CASH! They will charge you twice and refuse to give your money back. Not professional at all and she could care less about her customers.
