I was craving for southern food and saw this place as one of the recommended places to eat in. I think the location is definitely difficult to go to if commuting. Nevertheless I enjoyed my Sunday lunch here. I went with a friend, and we got the brisket, pulled pork, and dino beef ribs. For sides, just the slaw and pickles and some bread. The meats were so tender and we definitely ordered too much! We ate like half of what we ordered and had to take the rest home. Definitely an experience. If you havent tried brontosaurus beef ribs, I suggest you to try it here. Kudos to the one who was preparing the meats, I definitely felt welcome and will come back for more.
Very good BBQ. Tried basically everything but the beef ribs. Looking forward to going back with a larger party to try them. Highlights, in no specific order, were the Brisket, Mac & Cheese with Texas Queso, Spare Ribs, and Korean Ribs. Its cafeteria style dining with a very cool vibe. They have two bars with excellent selections.
We came here for dinner around 6pm on a Saturday and waited in line for about 2 hours as they slowly started selling out of some menu items. Ill say the food here is incredibly delicious. This is some seriously great BBQ. But the extremely long wait and high prices are enough for me to say that, although Im glad I got to try it, once its enough.
Pros: their brisket and pork were unmatched. Pulled pork melts in your mouth. Pork and beans were also delicious. Great sauces at table. The decor and vibe are what you want in a bbq spot. Prices are nyc reasonable.Cons: We arrived at 6 on a Saturday so not sure what other times are like, but we waited 1 hour in line to order. Also while we were eating they ran out of brisket and blacked it out from the menu and oof…big morale drop for those waiting in line. So, go knowing there’s a chance they could run out of popular items. Also coleslaw was meh and not worth $7, but their other sides are great.
The bbq here was phenomenal, I tried the spare ribs, cornbread, and Mac and cheese. No complaints about any of it, but the prices here are so astronomical, that it leaves a bad taste in my mouth. What you see there is $47 worth of food, that leaves you still hungry. Add a $7 beer and now we break into over $50 for one person to eat. I’m sorry but you have to lose 1 star for the ridiculous price. $30 for 3 ribs… $12 for single serve Mac and cheese and $5 for one piece of cornbread…. The foods great but take out a second mortgage before you head here…
Came here to celebrate a bday with a group of friends and made the long trek to red hook. The line was long and unmoving and it took us 2 hours to get our food. We saw employees talking leisurely while we waited. I don’t think it was worth the wait nor the trek. The food was good but nothing to write home about. My favorite thing was the Oaxacan chicken and the jerk tips but the brisket was not even served hot and the sides were just alright. There’s no table service and i had to clear and wipe down the table myself. I don’t know if they are understaffed but they need to significantly improve their service , especially considering their high prices and small portions.
Lamb banh mi caught my attention but I suggest you pass. Bread becomes very soggy with the lamb juice and would much rather have a normal chicken banh mi. Brisket was good , portions are quite small for the price. Mac and cheese + corn bread also were good. But nothing outstanding about this bbq but I suppose New York is not the best place for bbq.
Finding any BBQ thats even remotely close to what youll get in Texas and other parts of the South is, well, not possible. Ive heard about Hometown for what felt like years before giving it a try. Theyve been regarded to having the best BBQ in NYC, so Id thought Id give them a shot via Seamless Covid-19 delivery.1 pound of brisket and sides of mac and cheese, pinto beans, and collard greens came out to $70 after tax and delivery fees.Brisket - Average tenderness, somewhat dry.Mac & Cheese - Bland!Pinto Beans - Excellent!Collard Greens - Also excellent.Overall, dont expect the BBQ here to remind you of the great stuff in Texas.
This is hands down the best bbq I’ve ever eaten. I’ve recommended it to everyone I know who has a craving for bbq and will take the drive. Location is awesome, and specially incredible for a walk before and/ after eating. I had the pulled pork sandwich, with Mac and cheese, and a piece of corn bread. Mac and cheese was good, but the sandwich was INCREDIBLE! And the corn bread was so flavorful. Can’t wait to go back!
Yes they have the Trinity of smoked meats, but its the outside the box food concepts that ends up being the real treat. Who would have guessed the best taco Id ever eaten was at a BBQ joint in Brooklyn! Its pretty clear that the owner, Billy, takes a lot of pride in his restaurants because we saw him go out of his way to make guests comfortable AND the place was close to spotless. Im sure seating was tough for a little while, but the outdoor spaces they created were perfect. Thats on Covid, though.Back to the food, its a ton of amazing flavor mixed with backstory. You eat a kimchi taco because that food meant something to Billy growing up. All his plates have a story like that and its 100% worth it to ask him about them if you catch him. Great stories with even greater tastes. Dont go in expecting only smoked meats and dont pass up the charge to try something you hadnt planned to, because its ALL GREAT!When your done eating, go down to RedHook Tavern for a drink and incredible dessert. If youre lucky, Rebecca and Daniel will be working when you go in. They are awesome.Needless to say, Billys restaurants are more than worth the price of admission. Our evening eating at both places and meeting the awesome team at both locations was one of our favorite dining experiences weve ever had. Just take a couple minutes to look around and notice how well done every little thing is. Billy and his team have countless history lessons for you about the restaurants, the incredible renovation of Red Hook Tavern, and the history of their foods (this was really cool).Im really glad we got to go spend time in Billy Durneys Brooklyn Restaurants. I cant recommend enough that you do the same!
The quality of the food without a doubt is excellent. The pastrami bacon was tender, the bark on the exterior was crisp, and the interior was moist and flavorful. The mustard sauce complemented the pastrami bacon as did the Texas style collard greens. The quantity of the food was somewhat small and the price was a bit high. The seating arrangements were rudimentary and the restrooms were just two port-a-potties. It may be best to just take out.
Hometown BBQ has completely hit it out of the park! Excellent smoked BBQ, sides and desserts that are consistently delicious and an incredible staff! Do not confuse this place with a restaurant that thinks what they have is BBQ food! Hometowns BBQ is Authentic. Real wood, real fire and real smoke!!! The owner, Billy has done a fabulous job!!! I wish him and his business nothing but continued excellence and success!!!
My wife was insisting on coming here and let me say I’m so glad we did we ordered 1/2 lb brisket Korea ribs , brisket tacos ,cornbread , Mac&cheeseeverything was delicious cants explain how great everything was We will be returning soon we oonly took pictures of the Korean ribs because we started digging in and completely forgot to capture more pictures
This place was fine but not worth the 90 minute wait for our food. We came at 3:15, and the line didn’t seem too crazy, but the kitchen was molasses slow. Lunch at 5pm! The ribs were sort of tough and not juicy. The collard greens were tasty though, and the cornbread was like a piece of cake. I can’t tell if the food was truly good or if I was just insanely starving by the time I finally ate.
Hometown Bar-B-Que is one of the best BBQ joints in all of New York City. The menu is diverse and has surprises beyond the amazing staples like brisket, beef ribs, pork ribs, and pulled pork. The prices might be higher than you normally pay for barbecue but the food quality is high enough that it’s worth it.
Solid bbq, worth the wait (Waited 50mins on Saturday 4pm-ish)Beef rib was sold-out before 5pm so make sure to order or go early on the weekend.Brisket was soo juicy and pork short ribwas surprisingly good. Order collar green and cole slaw if you can’t handle too much grease from meat. Corn bread slice was a jam.Water and leftover-to go box are self-service. Plenty picnic tables outside if you want to dine out.
They obviously specialize in meat and you can tell. But honestly, it just feels too heavy and too greasy at times. Seems like a heart attack waiting to happen. That’s just my preference but the ambiance in the outdoor seating is nice and the music as well. Alcoholic beverages are way overpriced.
Food was delicious; some of the best I ever had!!! Korean Ribs, Pulled BBQ with all the fixings sandwich, side of pickles. I travel all over the US and this is in my backyard. YUM. You guys use a lot of plastic especially for a waterfront restaurant. Is it all biodegradable?
Saw a bunch of lists that call this place one of the best BBQ places in America, so my rating is relative to that. This place would be an average to above average BBQ place in any suburb, but its nothing to write home about. Its definitely not worth the exorbitant prices. The best thing was the Oaxaca chicken, in my opinion. And its not a case of getting one bad thing on the menu. We tried the brisket, the pulled pork, the Korean ribs, the beef rib, The lamb banh mi, rib tips, and corn bread, aside from the chicken.Korean ribs and lamb banh mi had too much going on and the over flavoring of them didnt add anything.Brisket was flavorless.Pulled pork was more grease than pork.Beef rib and rib tips were okay. The cornbread wasnt special, and the addition of sea salt actively detracted from them, though I got why it was added, the honey butter did make it sickly sweet.Chicken was pretty good.Wouldnt go back to this place, and wouldnt recommend it to others.
We had a company lunch here last week; everyone agreed, food and service was off the charts. From appetizers, to the mains and sides, everything was DELICIOUS. Best cornbread I think Ive/weve ever had. And the wonderful staff who took care of us were exceptional and gracious. Thank you Hometown BBQ!
We are grateful for Vinnie and Mitchel. They welcomed our Brazilian group to the store and everyone had such a GOOD time. We are also thankful for knowing the story that you shared with us about the owner cooking for the community when the properties were sadly affected by severe weather events... YOU ROCK! Many thanks!!!
The brisket is 5 star, pork ribs were too dry and pulled pork not too bad. Id read its the best BBQ in Brooklyn so, as someone thats spent a lot of time eating BBQ in Austin and in Lockhart, it was disappointing (aside from the brisket). Still gets 4 stars because they make a good effort (and the brisket is excellent), but Id choose Pig Beach over them of youre a serious bbq lover.
This is my go-to redhook and queens bbq joint. Rustic, smokey, and good. Lean or not so lean brisket, pulled pork, smoked turkey, ribs, to name a few. Within walking distance of the widow Jane distillery. All good. Dont go on Monday, they are closed. Oh yeah, within walking distance of some damn good key-lime pies as well! Some might even say the best.
I’ve been to Texas a few times and naturally eaten at a few of the institutional bbq joints. Hometown Bar-B-Que is right up there and is the real deal. There’s nothing like a great Beef Rib and I’m so happy to find a pit here in NY that delivers the goods. The whole menu is chef driven cooking and nothing short of sensational. Can’t wait to go back with friends and family for a table bending feast.
The food is okay, in my opinion nothing to die for. The wait is way too long (1.5 hours for take out) and seating is first come first served (outside), so on a nice NYC day, good luck with that, especially now with COVID. The food is cold even after waiting so long, which makes no sense. The Mac and cheese gives creamy packaged cheese and box macaroni vibes, the meats have a raw smell/taste which was a turn off for me. Also, the canned drinks (alcoholic) are crazy over priced, youll pay $40 for 2 cans of wine SMFH ... Not interested in another visit, they have a live band though😏
I’ve been wanting to go here for years. The first time I tried going it was a weekday and the line was out the door and half the menu was sold out, so I gave up. Went back on a Thursday and the same thing, huge slow line, and a good bit of the menu sold out. I assumed that this was just a sign of how good this place would be but it just not that good. They really get creative with their seasoning and menu which I like, but I think it’s all to cover up that the bbq is just alright. The chicken had no smoke or grill flavor and relied to heavily on the salsa and pickled onions. The jerk ribs were good in flavor but not that tender. The sausage was straight up cold and gross. The Mac and cheese was the best thing we had which is just sad for a bbq spot. Meal for two people was $75 and we didn’t order a lot. Overpriced and overhyped, the vibe is also corny 2010’s “hip” Brooklyn. Every beer is $9 and is some overly heavy 8% alcohol ipa.
Beef short rib has slight underseasoned crispy crust, while juicy and meaty with a subtle amount of smoke flavor.Brisket (Moist) has a layer of fat in the middle but is a little dry as there is no fat in between intersection of meat.Pork ribs is tender and moist but seasoning has little flavor.Lamb belly is seasoned well with spices but not enough fat to create an explosion of flavor.Overall, the food is delicious but not blown away. Hill Country Barbecue offers better smoked barbecue (personal opinion)
This is one of the best meals I’ve had in my life, and I’ve been to most of the Michelin starred restaurants in NYC. Started with an amazing Bloody Mary, then got some brisket, Oaxacan chicken, collard greens, potato salad and honey corn bread. The sides and brisket were all terrific, but the star of the show was the Oaxacan chicken. It’s as beautiful to look at as it is to eat. The line is long, and the meats aren’t cheap, but this place is well worth it.
Bad experience. Not worth it, at all.Zero service, you go get your food after a really long queue.Food is just warm, not even hot. Many choices from menu run out after 9pm and after 40min queue - or more - you just eat what is left.No one is helping when you ask for info.Prices really high for the average quality of meat (I could only try pulled pork and brisket because the rest was finished already).
2 thumbs down, the wait was ridiculous. The food was less than mediocre. Unless its free I wont be returning. When youre on line look to the left to make sure how long youll be waiting. The bartender is more interested in pushing drinks in the hot sun than moving the line along. 4 people behind the counter but only 1 taking orders. What a waste of time and money‼️
The bbq was very good, ordered the ribs, brisket and queso Mac and cheese. For 4 ribs, a half pound of brisket and one large side of Mac and cheese it came out to $75, which to me is pretty crazy. This was for 2 people. The ribs were large but I don’t think 4 ribs are worth $40. Was a good experience to try but definitely would not spend that kind of money again when there is bbq comparable at a much more reasonable price.
Just fantastic. The highlight was definitely the beef ribs. They were tender in a way that was different from everything else. However, everything was great from the brisket to the pulled pork, the sides and the corn bread.Get there early because youll have to wait on a long line to order and finally eat.
This is probably the best barbecue in NYC, hands down. It’s quite a bit out of the way and there was a huge line on a Saturday afternoon (over an hour!), but the food ended up being well worth the wait. They have multiple bars and we were drinking beers and Bloody Mary’s while we waited. The Korean style ribs were really good. I also loved the Mac and cheese. The banana pudding was also amazing.
Good barbecue is hard to come by in NYC, yet the debate for best Q in NYC is a contentious one. But Hometown is near the top of every list. (Additionally, it is strategically positioned near the Ample Hills Red Hook Factory for the one-two punch of Q and ice cream.) The meat—the brisket especially—has some subtle quality that distinguishes it from the runners-up. Yes, they also provide sliced bread in accordance with tradition. Great meat, good experiences, and viable pricing. *Note: written based on pre-Covid in-person experiences.
You would be doing yourself a disservice by not visiting this incredible place. Having had meat in over 80 countries prepared in various ways, this place blew me away. Sure, the queue is long, but every minute you wait for this absolutely magical shrine to bbq is well spent. I went for the brisket and also the pulled pork sandwich. It was a religious experience. Cooked to perfection, juicy and melts in your mouth. The atmosphere is amazing too. The hot and sweet sauce also won me over. I could drink it by the bottle.
My favorite BBQ spot in NYC! Tucked way in Red Hook (on the same street as another favorite, Brooklyn Crab) Hometown has an authentic southern BBQ atmosphere that makes you feel like you’re about to overindulge yourself with comfort food. They offer large, cafeteria style seating where you place your order and pick up once it’s prepared. All of the BBQ options are worthy contenders for your meal however the beef brisket and spare ribs are sensational and lie a top of my recommendation list. They also offer a unique take on a whipped potato salad laced with an intriguing and addictive tang. In addition, like any quality BBQ joint, the cornbread is a must. You’ll leave Hometown BBQ happy and with the feeling of overeating, in the best possible way.
Definitely one of the best BBQ joints in NYC. My first time going there and Im hooked. We had lamb belly, brisket, Vietnamese hot wings and pork ribs, which were all very delicious without adding any sauces. Naturally i wanted to try a little bit of the 2 sauces, and i had trouble deciding which i preferred. Side dishes were also very good. We had cornbread, collard greens, cole slaw and potato salad. A few beers and a lot of napkins later, all is good; very good. Friendly service, clean tables and a fun, lively placeCant wait to return to try more meat!
Not the best BBQ Ive had, but maybe I was expecting too much from other reviews. I had the jerk ribs and tried the pulled pork as well. The ribs were a great level of spicy and had nice flavor, but really werent that tender and were on the small side. The pulled pork was good but also not great. The sides are lacking compared to the meats, but both the mac n cheese and out beans are pretty good. Service is fine and prices are a bit high for what you get.
First time here. First off the food is delicious. Can’t really complain about the food my bf didn’t like the lamb sandwich so much but I enjoyed it. I think the tacos were my favorite. The only down fall of this place is that the line to order move soooo slow and it’s on the pricey side. The meal cost about 66 dollars I felt like it could have been about 10 dollars cheaper. But it was delicious. I just don’t see myself coming here at busy time the line to order food I can see it being triple the time of what I waited.
Top top top! I come back every time I’m in the city! I would try everything! I had a couple of spare ribs, a nice pulled pork and a medium container of smoked beans.. 38$Just remember is far away.. from Manhattan you can take the subway + E61 bus it will stop right in the front
Great food. Period. My favorite BBQ spot in all of NYC. One of three restaurants. The lines can get crazy outside of quarantine but is totally worth it. We ordered food via the toast app and went to a nearby park by the water with great views of the river and Statue of Liberty. Great experience! My recommendations are the brisket and Korean sticky ribs. yum!!
Absolutely the best bbq place in reed hook. I love their brisket & Korean sticky ribs with cashew nut sprinkled. Very tender meat with great balance of seasoning & delicious sauce. The place was very pack even on weeknights but worth the wait. Will definitely coming back for more. ❤️ ❤️ 🍖 🥩
I think this might be the best BBQ Ive ever had. They have some classics like brisket and pulled pork, but they also have some interesting options Ive never seen before like turkey and lamb. The mac & cheese was perfectly creamy. The potato salad is really more like cold mashed potatoes, but really tasty nonetheless. And the slaw was crunchy as well. The staff is extremely friendly and helpful. The place was clean where it needed to be and rustic in others. And I love that you can go to ther bar to get a drink while you wait; we went twice. My only critiques would be that we were prepared to wait 30-45 minutes in line like the website says, but it was actually just over an hour for us. And this place is also the most expensive BBQ Ive seen in Brooklyn. But neither of those things would prevent me from coming back, because its that good! Im already thinking about what Im gonna order next time.
This is a great spot for good barbecue and comfort food. It’s a big, open, friendly space filled with communal tables surrounding smaller, 4 seater tables. It’s very laid back, and has a comfortable, backyard bbq/cafeteria kind of feel. You order your food at the counter and take a number. Most of your food can be served immediately, but depending on what you order they may need a few extra minutes to prepare it, and then bring it to your table. There’s a full bar that’s completely separate. I would recommend ordering beer or a spirit in the rocks, but I happened to order a pear margarita and although I didn’t like it very much, my boyfriend said it was delicious. To each their own. 🤷🏻♀️Over all, everything we ordered was good. My absolute favorite things were the chicken tacos, pulled pork, the corn bread, and Mac and cheese.
It was my first time here at hometown, and I cant say anything less than amazing. At first when you walk in it throws you off a little because you have to stand in line to order your food . The place has a really nice vibe and the food was amazing. The pastrami bacon and briskets cut like butter. The chicken wings were really spicy which I loved because I tend to lean towards spicy food and the Jamaica jerk ribs had a very distinct flavor. I can honestly say Id love to go back and try the rest of the menu
Another Friday night of being out. I invited a few friends who were wanting meat. Well aftwr going to Hometown BBQ, they got their fill of meat. We walked in thru the front door around 630pm and it was already at capacity. They have 2 areas; the front where the live music venue is and a large bar is. We walked past all the people already getting busy with their BBQ. Then we proceeded to the back area to order out BBQ. The line was already long, but it took us only a few minutes to get to the front. As I said in the beginning, the carvers are quick and professional. We order the 1 Beef rib which is like a pound or more. The rib is so freaking good. The bark on it is perfect and slightly crispy. We also ordered brisket, pastrami bacon, lamb belly, sausage, collard greens, Mac and cheese, baked beans and of course the corn bread! Yes it may seem like a lot, but you can order in portions of as low as 1/4 pound. The only thing we forgot was the banana bread pudding I did not feel getting back on line, but it is really good. The beef rib is $30 a pound, but believe you me...Worth every ounce!! The drinks you order separately at the bar, and I ordered the Hometown brown ale, which was nice and cold, and went down smoothly. Even with as many people pouring in last night to get their BBQ, the line can almost go out the door. It is worth every minute! The only other treat is when the owner is there. He is so friendly and he even cleans tables....Thats a real owner!
The food was SO good, absolutely delicious. The brisket was so tender and flavorful, the mac and cheese was so good. Everything was delicious! And we were so full, we had to take the rib home. Dont underestimate their rib, their ribs are like a foot long and at least three inches thick, but still so delightfully yummy!
This place is the real deal. Its expensive, sure, but the food here actually beats some of the spots Ive eaten at in Dallas and Austin. Arrive early to beat the lines. We got there about 20 minutes before open and just beat the crowds and were 2nd in line. Line got drastically longer even just 5 minutes before opening.Pulled pork was flavorful and tender, although a bit more fatty than I prefer. Turkey was amazingly juicy and nicely smoked, I wish I had ordered more. Cornbread was OK, but super dry and crumbly. Mac and cheese was great, but not what I was expecting. Its made with queso which wasnt as creamy as youd hope Mac and cheese to be. Lastly, banana pudding was great, but very small portion size for the price. All in all, Id come back. At $48 for the meal pictured here it certainly isnt the best bang for your buck, but it sure was damn delicious
1. The line was way too long, took about a half hour just to order2. Way overpriced. We paid $60 for 2 ribs, mac & cheese, beans, 1 sausage, and 3 tiny brisket tacos3. There was only one bathroom, a 1 person bathroom for a huge location4. Barely any meat on the ribs and the bone was huge so youre basically just paying for the bone5. Sausage tasted weird and I didnt like it at all6. I was expecting nice decent size brisket tacos but they were tiny af and you couldnt even fold them
Bartender was very friendly and gave good food recommendations. The Lamb Belly sandwich was devine and the mac and cheese is among the best. I am a fan of the potato salad all though I hear some are not because it is not chunky, but rather creamy. I am a first time visitor from out of town and now I understand why many people have told me that this is the best BBQ in NY. You cant go wrong here unless you are vegetarian. I will be back during my next visit to NYC.
The BBQ spot is by far the best in greater NYC area. It’s always busy on Saturday/Sunday but if you come early enough this is a short line. You order cafeteria style and sit anywhere in the restaurant. The beef ribs were unbelievable (must order). The prices were a bit expensive, but worth the money. Pit beans were incredibly smokey and the greens were salty, but the pulled pork and beef ribs were to die for. Great for families and large groups.
Quite simply, the best BBQ in New York City. Pulled pork, lamb belly, pastrami bacon, and house made sausage are all amazing. And their Korean sticky ribs blew my mind. But when it comes to BBQ the true litmus test is beef brisket and Hometown has the best Ive ever tasted outside of Hill Country Texas. Smoked to perfection, its super moist with a deliciously crispy bark.
Great bbq food at reasonable prices. The space is huge with plenty of seating. Seems to have live band performances sometime. You order at the counter. The brisket is their staple, but I really enjoyed the pull pork. I recommend coming with a couple people to try as much of the menu as you can or make multiple visits.
Brisket was really good and expensive they charge by the pound. Ribs were good I did expect thicker pieces. The corn bread and Mac and cheese were good as well. Just was browsing the area with the kids and decided to stop here...Im a real meat and potato guy. Worth the trip.
Excellent BBQ joint! I ordered the brisket sandwich and was very pleased. I did not expect the awesomely tender and juicy flavors my friends were raving about. The only thing I would have enjoyed more is a hotter BBQ sauce, but to be honest, I found the meat VERY enjoyable without any additional sauces being necessary.
Tasty options for anyone regardless of their culinary preferences, though definitely more of a meat-eater’s paradise. Comfy seating for dining, as well as a big bar if that’s more your speed. Definitely worth the trip down to Red Hook (and a great stop to fuel your IKEA trip).
I haven’t had barbecue this good outside of the south. I got the pulled pork, smoked turkey, Mac n cheese, collard greens and pickles. The pulled pork was great but was missing that smoke flavor I was craving. I know a lot of people sleep on turkey at BBQ places but you really shouldn’t. The turkey was phenomenal. Best thing I had next to the collard greens. The collards were so good. I usually find collards to be a bit mushy and bland while also being greasy but these were not. They had great flavor and chew. The Mac n cheese was also fantastic. It will be fantastic tomorrow with the leftover pulled pork. The pickles were pickles.
Very good barbeque meats. Im not sure if theres another place that can match the smoke flavor. Got there @ 5pm... Pork and Brisket were sold out by 8pm. I had an hour wait before I could order, must have been the day I picked to try this place. Order meats by 1/2 lbs or by the lbs. Open bench table seating.
Very good BBQ with good size portuons. It is a good idea to come with someone else so that you can order different items in the menu and split the cost.the food delicious and was very tender. I recommend the Bacon followed closely by the ribs. But everything here is delicious from the main items to the sides. If you get the chance to be in red hook I recommend that you check out Hometown Bar-B-Que.
Is there really much more too say other than what you see in this picture? It tastes exactly how it looks, it is freaking delicious. You can eat it as is, or you can put spicy BBQ or sweet BBQ, its just Delicious. This is just my favorite with a side of Corn Bread, sorry the corn bread was packed up for dinner, so no pic.Their brisket and pulled pork are delicious too.Sometimes the lines are so long, youll have to wait for an hour and 30 mins, so if that is ok with you, just go and be in heaven while you eat. You can drink and talk with your group while waiting in line.Just love this place
When you arrive, you stand on line to order your food and then take it to a table. The line is almost always long and you dont put your name in to wait, but always seems to work out as by the time you are ready to order, a table has cleared. Ive waited for about an hour tops but have seen where the line is fully out the door. Trust me, its worth it.
One of the best barbecue experiences I ever had! We were a group of 4 and had the brisket, pulled pork, Korean ribs, and wings plus 4 different sides. The brisket was my favorite but everything else was really good too. Just keep in mind that there’s a long wait to get your order taken (30 min easily), so grab a beer at the bar and catch up on lost time with your friends!
If you survive the line you will love the food. I had a fantastic experience at hometown. I tried the pull pork sandwich and it was just perfection. Just talking about it makes hungry And dying to go back. The sides were excellent and the overall atmosphere was just great (cant go wrong with 80s music in a BBQ place). Cant wait to go back and ask my friends to wait in line while I will be having a beer at the bar.
My family and I came here during Memorial Day Weekend and it did not disappoint. There was a long line to place your order but the music is great and theres a bar where you can order a drink for while you wait. Once you get to order, service is friendly and quick. I highly recommend the sausage, beef ribs and side of beans. The rib is humongous but incredibly tender and the beans are a nice combo of spicy and sweet. Although I love brisket, I found the one here to be on the dry side and needing sauce. Speaking of which, they offer good BBQ and sweet sauces. They also have a station to serve yourself water, and to get utensils and to-go containers. There is decent seating and tables turn over fairly often. Plenty of high chairs for those with little ones.
Best barbeque to be found in the Northeast and arguably anywhere. Flawlesslessy executed brisket, excellent checkin and Korean wings. The sides are not to be missed either. Favorites include honey butter glazed cornbread, beans, slaw, and greens. Fully stocked bar with good local beer selection.Be prepared for a long line on weekends. Grab drinks from the bar while you wait as drinks are purchased separately anyway. Free water cooler near register.
The bbq was good nothing really special the reason for the 3 star review is because it’s extremely expensive. 15$ for a sandwich without a side is pricey. The corn bread was good but not worth $5. A large Mac and cheese (pictured) is $10. the staff was friendly and place was clean. This lunch cost my friend and I $60 with the two sodas.
The most amazing meat around. We got there on a Saturday at 11:30am. We were first in line. Glad we got there early because lines started to form and with good reason. This is some of the best BBQ anywhere. The Korean Sticky wings were some of the best I ever had as was the brisket. Literally everything I tried was sooooo good.
Best BBQ Ive ever had. After trying KC BBQ in KC, Carolina in NC, and Texas, in Dallas and San Antonio ....Hometown rains supreme.Ive been a couple times and each time I have to get the beef rib because its so glorious. The crust and flavor of said crust is magic and the Juiciness is second to none.Ive ventured out to other menu items on each visit and have never been disappointed. The beans are a staple side in BBQ and its always sad when theyre such an after thought but at hometown they are outstanding!!Cant wait to go back. But probably early on a week night as the word is out and the lines are long on the weekends.
Outstanding.Best barbecue/pitt restaurant Ive ever been to. Canteen style and I happily queued for an hour and was not disappointed (even though they had run out of loads).I would highly recommend the spare ribs, brisket and pastrami bacon which was outstandingly tasty. You can eat heartily and still have some to take home for $50 For 2.Its the best!
Best Bar B Que in NYC dare I say the whole East coast. I compare it to real Texas BBQ and it does not disappoint. This place its amazing. Everytime I have visitors in town I take them to this place. Its amazing. It can get crowded and if you dont come early enough they will run out of things. So come early as possible. On the other hand this might ruin the rest of your day and have a food coma. But it is worth it.
I hyped myself up for some Hometown BBQ and when I finally got a chance to try the restaurant out, the food was mediocre. I was really disappointed with the beans. They were sweet with a little kick. I liked the kick, but I didnt like that they used their signature sweet BBQ sauce on them. The cornbread was plain, nothing special to it. They sausage was ok. The brisket was plain. Im not a fan of Hometowns BBQ sauces. If you dont cook your meat with some kind of sauce/marinade, you need a strong signature sauce on the table, I just didnt get that here. My family enjoyed the chicken. I cant complain about that. The queso mac and cheese was different but I enjoyed it. However the banana pudding almost made me cry. It was a waste of $6. It was gritty and lacked a strong banana flavor and real bananas. Needless to say, I wont return.
Located in an old produce warehouse near the Hospital district in Miami. It is an outpost of the Hometown BBQ from Brooklyn. The place is huge with seating inside and outside.Small menu consisting of sandwiches, smoked wings, tacos, and smoked meats and ribs by the pound.I had the BRISKET sandwich with pickles, white onion, fresno chile, and bbq sauce on a hard roll, very good except the brisket was a little fatty. Also the SMOKED PIT BEANS with chunks of brisket in it, also very good.
A cool lay out with tons of open space and ample seating. It was nice that the kitchen was open and they carve meats in front of you onto your tray. Brisket was a big favorite, but really everything, including the sides were great. Ample portions and plenty of adult beverages to choose from
Love this place especially on weekends. Nice music, nice vibes. The food is really really good. The beef rib melt in your mouth, pited beans are delicious but I have to say brisket is always a little dry, not juicy. Corn bread is so good. From Manhattan to this place is about 40 minutes by train. It worth it, trust me.
Wow. This spot is outrageous......ly good.Everything is fresh and delicious. They cut the meat right in front of you. Theres a couple bars inside too so you can grab a few drinks while you wait for your food. Which you will wait btw. Ive seen the line out the door and around the corner. And tbh its so worth it. If you can catch it on a slower day, consider yourself as having stumbled upon a second Christmas, or whatever holiday you may or may not follow.
Ok the food is good. It has outdoor seating (benches/umbrellas). You must order your food on your phone, seat yourself at a table, clean your table because the restaurant staff is inside, pickup your food when its ready, grab paper plates, plastic forms etc, then dump your own trash... this is fine but its a lot of self service after youd paid a hefty gratuity which is pretty much requested when paying the bill (minimum gratuity was 15%).But I will repeat that the food was very tasty and the staff was very nice and I will probably come back.
By far one of the best BBQ joints on the east and probably east of Texas. Thats probably a stretch but this stuff is GOOD!!! Beef rib ✔️, Moist Brisket ✔️, LAMB BELLY✔️✔️, Corn bread ✔️, etc etc.I started coming here after a friend told me about this place while I lived in the West. Ive actually driven from California and made this a stop on my coast to coast road Trip. Its worth it!! I now live on the East coast and bring my friends and family to this place. So name dropping, Douglas. thank you for getting me hooked on your place!!They are open for Thanksgiving and thats where I spent my first turkey day last year and look forward to making this a tradition.
A really great Brooklyn BBQ joint. Food is really well thought out for flavor, like the pulled pork sandwich which has a hot ranch sauce, or the Korean wings with a generous topping of scallions and crusted peanuts. Great portions sizes and sides, and the location at the tip of Red Hook is beautiful. Can get crowded on nights and weekends, but well worth the journey for good BBQ! Brooklyns best BBQ!
Great music and great cue!Tender fall off the bone beef ribs, better then the brisket in my opinion. Perfect amount of fat and meat blended together waiting to be sucked off the bone. Briskest was pretty bomb too. The Vietnamese wings and the korean ribs were a little too sweet for our table. But I love the Asian influence in a BBQ menu and for that reason this place is a clear winner!!And!!! All the sides were good Mac and cheese, cornbread, pickles and cole slaw. No beans because we had a long car ride back...Although it gets busy the later you come, I recommend coming after 7:30 for the live Great music and great cue!
One of the best BBQ restaurants in NYC. If you are BBQ lovers, you must go here. It’s great food and good atmosphere to chill. They have live music on the weekend.I ordered pulled pork, brisk, pork belly, beef ribs, spare rib and sausage. My favorite meats are the brisk and beef rib but other are equally delicious. The beef rib so so tender and juicy, it melt in your mouth like a butter. If you like the chicken wing, try the Vietnamese hot wings. For side orders, we ordered collard greens, smoked pit beans and whisky sour pickles. I didn’t order the dessert. If you do order the dessert, I recommend Steves Authentic Key Lime Pie, which are made it local and they’re delicious. They also have good selection of beers and wines. The location is may not be convenience if you don’t have a car. However, you can either take a subway and bus or take the water ferry to Ikea ferry terminal and walk a few blocks from the Ikea ferry terminal. If you take Ikea’s ferry on weekend, it is free and. If you are going there on weekends, make sure to get there early since its a long wait for the food.
I should start by saying the bartender was very nice and the ambience was perfect for a beautiful day. That being said, the food was just not good. The mac some how was worse than from a box, do you use cheese? The potato salad was whipped, had too much dill and what I suspect is mustard. Id compare them to cold mashed potatoes, which is as unappealing as it sounds. The collard greens were unflavored even though they used more pork than greens. The corn bread was dry and didnt come with butter. The ribs needed sauce to be appealing. The brisket was dry. I think the only decent thing was the wings. All of it as cold. For the price I was expecting better. If youre looking for fun time in the sun, this place is beautiful just eat before you get there.
What if I told you you could get Texan style BBQ that was as good as any right here in Brooklyn, would you believe me? Well you dont have to take my word for it, just go find out for yourself and I know that in the middle of your meat sweats youll be thinking dang that reviewer on the Google was right.Little known fact the prices are advertised by the half pound but you can order by the quarter pound. It gets justifiably busy on weekends but the line moves pretty fast and one person can order for the whole party.
I havent had a proper barbecue in about 5 years. I am so very happy I chose Hometown to refresh my memory on just why I love barbeque so friggin much!Outside - looks like a converted car shop, complete with garage door.Inside - the smell hits you before anything else. That mouthwatering, digestion inducing aroma of cooked meat. There is a nice bar and plenty of space for parties of all sizes.Food - drool all over the floor tasty!Price - meh, seen worse, definitely seen better.Drinks - beers around 8$, did not check anything else. I mean why would I? Beer is the way to go.Conclusion: if you find yourself in red hook, do not miss the chance to visit this fine establishment.
BBQ is delicious! Best was the brisket and beef ribs. Had the beans, cole slaw and macaroni and cheese, all good! And a beer of course! Decent bar with a good beer selection. There is a long wait, tried going on a Saturday night and it was impossible to wait. The line went all around the restaurant and out the door, easily would have been 2 to 3 hour wait just to get food. Went today, Friday about 2:30, there was about 20 people on line and waited about 30 mins. They have a live band too in the evenings. If you have time to spare and time to wait the BBQ is worth the wait!
Aside from the wait, this place was really good. Grab a drink at the bar before getting online, or make sure you go with some friends so you can save a seat. My friends and I all ordered something different and tried a bit of eachothers food. It was great. They smoke tge meat right next to the building.
The brisket. I dream about the brisket. The brisket is my friend, my enemy, my everything. They have other dishes, dont get me wrong. But THE BRISKET.Now for the fine print:I actually prefer the smaller location in Industry City.If you go to this location, youll get awesome views, and more selection for food, but youll have a long wait. Could be 50 min, could be forever. You can get the same *amazing* brisket, at their smaller location in Industry city. Sure, youll miss out on the beef rib, but the wait will be cut in half. Half the time, twice the brisket, right?Debating between Korean Sticky Ribs and the regular spare ribs? I prefer the regular ones. They slid right off.Ill go to bed dreaming about this brisket again, like every night.
I really want to give hometown BBQ 5 stars, because their BBQ is hands down the best Ive ever had.The pulled pork? Great! The lamb belly? Omg yum!The beef rib? To die for!So why 4 stars? Well, we waited a good 2 hours before we can get our food, even though it was a sorry but not sorry situation after we took our first bite. All I can say is that try to get here early to avoid the super long lineup.
The ribs were considerably dry and the brisket was not very flavorful. Unfortunately, the side dishes (beans and slaw) were also subpar. I was expecting much much better considering the reviews and hype around Hometown. Overall disappointed and cannot recommend. Also we had to order 80+ minutes in advance.
I arrived to this barbecue place in Red Hook and realized right away I had to order online, and that it took an hour for my food. After a brief detour I grabbed my food. They gave me a good selection of sauces to go with my ribs. Its good food, albeit a bit out of the way.
Stumbled upon this gem...which was not really hidden at all. All the other reviews hold up! Super good and if you can catch tymhr live music it is an all around good time. Saturday was crazy busy. Many of the sammies were 86d. The line was super super long, right about 630. We found plenty to keep us satisfied. Notably the beans, corn bread and brisket. All was good, pretty much had all the sides and also tried the chicken. and pastrami bacon. Only thing Id skip...the potato salad, was a mashed potato consistency with typical additions except the very apparent vinegar flavor which Ive never had. Maybe this is a style, a particular region...not sure not a Bbq but I know I didnt like the vinegar isn flavor to it. And I usually love potato salad.
Went here for my birthday lunch...The food was great! The place was cozy and beautiful....... The only thing I did not like, as soon as we stepped up to the cashier he turned his back to us and acted like he was doing something so he wouldnt have to take care of us for a good 5 minutes without say anything to us! I wanted to walk away and go to a different restaurant.... Another gentlemen come out and he was great! .. Were in 2021 its time to get along and leave the negative energy at the door SR! ......
Have always adored Hometown BBQ, so when it came time to pick a caterer for my wedding, it was a no brainer. They went above and beyond to make sure the day was perfect. The food was perfect, the planning was seamlessly and all our guests were blown away by how amazing our wedding food was. Mel at Hometown helped us organize it all and she is such a pleasure to work with. She was flexible with our requests and made sure everything was the way we wanted it. She and her coworkers were kind, professional and talented. If you like visiting Hometown for meals, definitely think of them for your next event.
This is a spot to go to the drinks are good . You can sit outside they have tables with umbrellas for the sun the food is good their brisket is sooooo good a must try if you go . The Mac and cheese has a spicy kick to it but I was able to bare it and I dont eat spicy foods at all . the prices are reasonable you have to order online and pick the food up they dont take orders when you get there . I would suggest just more beef on the menu and the collard greens to be made without pork not everyone eats pork other than that this is a go to spot and I will be back
This used to be a fun place with decent service. The food is still good, the service is extremely slow - it took us an hour and 20 mins to get our order and at the end it was the wrong food. There was no apology - on the contrary we treated like it was our fault. The staff particularly, the guy with at the cashier was so rude. It was not worth the wait at the end. There are other BBQ places in Brooklyn, there is nothing special about the place...
Decided to check out Hometown BBQ since it is listed as one to the top BBQ places in US. When we got out food, the ribs was tender but it did not have much flavor. The brisket was just ok - it wasnt delicious & it wasnt bad. We enjoyed the brisket more with bbq sauce on it. The collard greens did not taste like collard greens. The Mac and cheese and baked beans were good. The vietnamese hot wings were really good. Overall I was expecting to be wowed but wasnt. The food was just mediocre.
You may show up to Hometown Bar-B-Que, see that the line is miles long, and decide its not worth it. You would be wrong. Good lord it is so worth it. Some days are better than others in terms of wait-time, but even if the line reaches the opposite side of the building (it does this), the food is delicious enough to grab some drinks while you stand in line and wait it out.
I was really looking forward to eating here but, I was sorely disappointed. We had the brisket, turkey, Korean sticky ribs, Thai wings, collard greens, potato salad, pinto beans, macaroni and cheese, and banana pudding.Lets start with the fact that the prices were outrageous for the amount of food given. ($16 for 3 ribs). The brisket had no flavor and hardly a ring of smoke. The potato salad was more like cold mashed potatoes. The mac and cheese was like soup. The banana pudding tasted as if they doused it with sugar. The ribs although pricey were not bad. The wings tasted it like the pitmaster is a little heavy handed with the pepper. Not everything was bad, the collard greens, turkey and pinto beans were very good.Sorry, but I will not be recommending this bbq to anyone.
Main dishes are absolutely delicious. Side dishes are so so. Tried almost all sandwiches and enjoyed. Ribs are great as well, but wish it was more meat for a price lol. Drinks selection is good as well. I think everyone would find something for their taste. There are covered tables and benches outside premises. You cannot eat inside building. Order is ONLINE ONLY even if you literally satay there.
Definitely delicious, no question about that.Order early, the process to receive food can take a long time. The only reason this restaurant gets 4 stars is because they will not modify anything. I have a dairy allergy and dont eat red meat, so there are only a few things I can eat. Still worth eating here but how hard is it to not put cheese or sauce on something?
I dream of this place sometimes. Yum. Really nice Texas vibes with the shiner bock beers. We had basically everything on the menu and wanted to keep eating even though were stuffed. Just absolutely delicious and worth coming back. People seem to complain about the wait but good things take time…grab a drink and hang out!

2022-06-28Really phenomenal BBQ, the best I’ve had since being in NYC. The meats and sides are absolutely amazing. It’s a really nice location too - a bit hard to reach from the city (45 min by ferry/subway), but it’s really nicely decorated with plenty of space. Wish they had more fans because it is HOT in the building, but would be fun to come at night when it is cooler out (and they have live music!).The cornbread, pickles, and mac and cheese were delicious. The brisket was super juicy and I liked the turkey too. The ribs were a bit dry but still good. The line gets super long during the day (was about 30 minutes on a Saturday at 2pm) and I imagine it’s longer at night.I will 100% come back here, had a great time and would highly recommend.

2022-06-13Came here around 6:30 and finally got to order at 8:30. The long wait here is pretty normal for hometown so that was expected. However, when you do order make sure they charge your for the right amount that you ordered. I ordered 3 lb of brisket but got charged for 3.5 lb.The brisket here is pretty good. They cut you nice thick cuts that are very juicy. If I come back Id definitely be getting more of those. The ribs we got were pretty lukewarm and pretty tough to eat honestly(especially the end piece they gave to us). The smokey taste was definitely there though but overall I think they can be better. We got a bunch of other sides that seemed pretty average. I liked the Italian sausage but wish they had more snap to them since they seemed mostly soft. One other thing to note was how the corn bread was so dry and hard that it bent the plastic fork we used to eat.

2022-06-12The experience was good - with the music, outdoor tables and some nice staff. The food is disappointingly underwhelming. All the food was served cold. The brisket is forgettable without discernible smoky flavor or any flavor. The ribs were slightly better but mostly just salty. The chicken wings were at least spicy. The potato salad should be called/described as mashed potatoes since food is about texture not just flavor and it is mashed. The chili was a bit spicy but otherwise uninteresting. The corn bread is good and except for the way too sweet bacon in it the Bloody Mary is excellent. Wouldn’t spend the money again.

2022-05-04Great place to stop at after a wine or whiskey tasting in the area — there’s been a wait each time I’ve gone, some considerably longer than others. I’ve never had trouble finding a seat, though. They do have a vegetarian menu, but I usually stick to Mac and cheese, corn bread and pickles. The cauliflower was too spicy for me the time I tried it. Prices are a little high for the portion size, but overall would recommend checking it out, especially if you can enjoy the meaty BBQ options.

2021-12-19One of my favourite barbecue restaurants in the world. I was in NYC for a 6h layover and spent the whole time rushing here grabbing a bite then heading back to the airport. It is a fantastic brisket and amazing coleslaw. The sausage was a bit disappointing as it was not as “smooth” tasting. Pulled pork also brilliant. I have tried almost everything on the menu and I highly recommend going again. I do wish they sold their sauces in easier to transport containers, I don’t live in the US so bringing it with me would be a dream.Highly, highly recommend.

2022-03-09Great food! If you can, get the Korean pork ribs. You won’t be disappointed. Also really loved their pulled pork and brisket queso 😍🤤. I’ve been wanting to come here for some time but never really make it out to Red Hook. Well, I’ll be going a lot more to Red Hook and especially to this restaurant. We got their at 7 and by 8:30 they were sold out of food and turning patrons away.

2022-06-09One of the best barbecue places in Brooklyn! The wait is always long but tables empty out as you wait so you can usually get a seat. All the meat is so tender, the pulled pork is juicy, the ribs fall off the bone. The sauces are delicious.

2021-12-28One of the best brisket I have ever tried. The place is so big and have a beautiful outdoor sitting. They were checking vaccination card which is a good initiative. The server were also helpful. I will go again when I will visit NY.

2022-01-17The best BBQ I have had in NYC.Their cornbread is the best I have ever had, wish I could eat that ever day. Perfectly sweet and delicious!
