My favorite BBQ place in nyc! Both locations are amazing but I have to say that this location serves the best cornbread!!! While outdoor dining is not an option at the restaurant you are able to take your food to the park spaces provided by industry city. Try the brisket sandwich and pickles! Make sure you ask for extra bbq and take napkins and cutlery.
Food is absolutely delicious as always. The meat is so tender and juicy, it’s the best BBQ restaurant in Brooklyn. We have tried the one in Red Hook, and We are so glad that they open another one in Industry City which is closer to where we live. We will definitely come back often.
Excellent brisket sandwich, with Cole saw and corn bread. $30 plus tip for just me alone feels pricey. Line to order felt long when I came in but I think I was at the counter and ordering in about ten minutes. Be prepared to have trouble finding a seat if you stay to eat and if you do, youll be sharing a table with new friends. No big deal really, and the huge picture of the Wo Hops chef on the wall might be a tongue in cheek hint about that. Anyway, foods good, I recommend.
The food was great...that I got, but I ordered to go and didnt get a burger that I ordered for my 3 yr old even though I was assured everything was there (parents you can sympathize with my situation when I got home) and when I called to let them know I couldnt get an actual person, only a recording. Disappointing since I drove from another borough...
Im giving this place 3 stars because the food was delicious, but its way overpriced. I ordered a brisket taco thinking for the price ($12) it MUST be filling.Nope.On the websites menu you see its 3 brisket tacos for $12 but at the industry city location its one big tortilla so its just one taco. For $12 Id rather get 3 small tacos with brisket and sufficient toppings to fill the tortillas than one large mostly empty tortilla with a slice of brisket in the middle... Hell I just paid $15 for 3 sufficiently stuffed tortillas elsewhere and I would happily give this place a better review if I wasnt still hungry after spending over $20 on lunch (I also ordered the macaroni and cheese, a bit too runny for my tastes.)
I would give Hometown BBQ 500 stars if I could. My husband and I had our wedding party at Hometown Industry City and it was everything we could have dreamed of and more. The staff was so kind, Mel, the event manager, was so helpful and got everything we wanted accomplished, and the food was phenomenal. Our guests had such a wonderful time, as did we, and we wish we could have a million more parties here. Highly recommend for a meal or an outing, or if you have reason to celebrate- a party! Thank you so much Hometown, we love you.
Editing our review because while we were not initially a fan of the pastrami sandwich, the manager was very accommodating and gave us the opportunity to try it again. It’s a good sandwich, though we would probably order the amazing lamb bahn mi and the HBIC sandwiches instead next time.
If I could give zero stars, I would. Maybe a 1/2 star. This is one of our favorite bbq spots, but this past experience was very disappointing. I placed the order online, checked in a couple minutes before, and was told the order would be ready in a few minutes. When we checked a second time, we were told it would be a few minutes. Same message the third time we checked. The food was finally ready 45 minutes after the time it was supposed to be ready. We saw walk-ins get their orders before us.
Great BBQ. We had heard good things and visited in the 4th of July, which was obviously extremely busy. Indoor seating was closed (presuming due to covid) but they have plenty of outdoor seating. You need to order/pay on an app, which gives you a time to collect your food. It may have just been too busy when we went, but there was a lot of confusion as to when your food was ready. It was a hot day and people were getting frustrated at their order not being ready when the app said it would be.The food was outstanding. Cannot fault that at all. Whatever your decide to order will be delicious. Looking forward to visiting again when things are back to normal and a little less busy!
Im a die-hard bbq spareribs aficionado as indicated by the bulk of reviews posted in my ever so continuing crusade for next big name in bbq ribs culture. In comes Hometown BBQ. Knowing its location Industry City Brooklyn Ive always been wary of trying this much hyped BBQ joint. Driving, parking and even commuting via public transportation are all wrought with perils. This time I put aside all these mentioned obstacles I made it!! But,Boy oh Boy, what a adissappoint. At a whopping price of $ 28/ lb. Expect a max of four bones if you are lucky. $7 a bone?. You do the math. With so much hype and after finding a nearby parking spot, merely because of laced Sunday parking restrictions, I bulkerd under pressure and requested center cut spare ribs for the fact I am not too fond of the ends. I have done that in almost all BBQ restaurants across the country and very few of these places stay firm especially the ones who sell by a slab not weight. Well, since I as paying by a pound, I made my usual request, only this time, for granted.. The gentleman quickly whisked me off to the cashier and said Ill see what I can do , just wait outside if you need to keep an eye on your car, well call you and he disappeared behind swinging kitchen doors. His abrupt instructions didnt make much sense but then, while surveying the surroundings I saw signs of Butcher 1/2/3 posted by the servers spots. Strange, but for meat fans its encouraging and exciting; it leads them/us to believe that people in this joint, are ligit , Broollynese style. So after feverishly waiting for good 15 minutes I stuck my head in, my Butcher guy Immediatly spotted me and motioned with his fingers in a dog call like manner to come over. A quintessential Brooklyn parks style gesture akin to asking your dog to come get the reward bone. I rushed in and there was this massive, highly animated confused debate in session between two professional butchers:leaving me and cash register person bewildered at this slap stick comedy. The quarrel was over my not to be found order bag. Once realizing my presence, I was told to wait there by the cash register while my personal butcher hurried back into the kitchen through those swinging doors, yet again. He emerged a minute later with a brown paper bag with its top tightly trifolded. He handed it to me securing the folds firmly. I rushed out and could not wait to head back home. Staten Island. Once home I franticly opened the bag to find a clumsily foil wrapped package that had 2 skinny, one meaty and dreaded the end rib bone. $30 later and a bag with undesirable order, no napkins, no sauce anything????. What???? Where did I go wrong???. Did I end up being coned by pseudo- generic gentrified modern day eateries with their hyper-articulate owners who dictate their own terms under the diction of their scripted/rehearsed speech/rant to justify their over inflated prices and us customers are nothing but gentiles who should succumb to their unrealistic institutions????. Well, l am not that easily convinced. As a matter of fact if I am treated with sincere accomodations to my request, I will convert without any qualms.Tastewise there was undoubtly a great acidic vinaigre taste attributed to North Carolina taste but for $30 just one rib (mentionable) is quite a hefty price to experience a Replica of North Carolina maverick. And, why cant I at least have a pouch of your BBQ sauce.. If your justification is based on contingency of demand made by the patron, dont even bother. At the least put two napkins. Combine all these deficienies with a pricy, risky driving/parking situations and being greeted by confused/arrogant staff, spare yourself a hassle. Dont bear all such risks and go to Feta Sau, instead. Now thats where its (ribs) called music. Hometown people, please take some lessons!!
I ordered the 1# Pastrami On Rye bread . I know that it is a fatty meat. I was so sad that 60% was fat and 40% was meat. and I Spent $30.47 on one Sandwich Only . I am Still it SHOCK ModeUpdate on This Post ,The Customer service is the support you offer your customers both before and after they buy and use your products. In This CaseMitchell Rosen Reach out to me and did an Understand Job looking out for me . In which he solve the problem . Again thank you and you will see a future post when i try one more time the PASTRAMI Sandwich
Gladly Mitchell! This review is based solely on my customer service experience:1) It is really difficult to get a response when calling in, I’ve tried multiple times and keep getting redirected to the main menu, regardless of choosing the option that mentions pressing zero for further assistance.2) I visited your location with some questions and while I totally understand things not being possible (due to staffing, covid-19, timing). I feel like I was approached with an apathetic/ dismissive demeanor and to a point a bit rude/ stand-offish. I’ve worked in customer service and while I DO NOT believe that the customer is always right... I do believe some grace goes a long way. There was no effort made to work with/find/prove a solution and again, maybe there wasn’t one but delivery sometimes matters more than impact when working with people . I came to your location on a glowing recommendation and was disappointed in the people experience.3) I get there is a need for more technology especially in these times and I am sure it is helpful to the general ops and workflow, however having a fail safe or work around for those situations is always beneficial. These kind of things and the people touch is just as important as serving great quality food, which I am sure you do provide.I was just more than a little disappointed in my personal experience.
Went to IC the other day with my wife and ordered a 1lb brisket($16) and a cauliflower wings ($13). The meat was well prepared, tender and tasty. The cauliflower wings came in a box that than fit about 1lb. When we opened it up, there were 5 bite size pieces of overcooked cauliflower drowned in a spicy sauce, which makes it $2.50 apiece for this creation. The raw ingredients that went into this culinary marvel were under 50 cents. Not sure what these guys are thinking - probably that their customers live in trees and that they can atrociously overcharge them for their mediocre, overpriced meals.Do me a favor, walk a couple of blocks to the fifth avenue and get yourself a couple of tacos pastor or goat tacos for a price of each cauliflower wing piece Hometown BBQ sells.
Updated rating to be more fair, before it was 1 star. 2 star food, 2 star service. Fell sort of expectations: lacked expected flavor, no salt. I wish they provided bread with the brisket, usually typical. It was juicy enough. For context, here is how would rate other options:5 star - Franklins bbq (austin, tx)4 stars - hill country (can be a bit dry sometimes, fatty always good)3 stars - mighty Quinns
Pastrami sandwich was good but not great. Ive had better Pastrami in Manhattan. I went at 1 p.m. on a Thursday and it wasnt crowded at all so I did not have to wait long and there was plenty of seating. If you drive here, be advised that parking is difficult in this area.
This hometown favorite (pun intended) from Red Hook, Brooklyn has a satellite venue in the new and excitingly vital Industry City. Formerly Bush Terminal, a manufacturing hub in Sunset Park, Brooklyn that became a relic of its past is resurrecting itself like many parts of Brooklyn. To capitilaze on the revitalization Hometown opened a new store also. As a top 10 BBQ place in the country it is not hard to believe that the tradition would carry over to this eatery in IC just as it has done in Miami, Florida. In this Covid environment it is delivery and takeout only. For takeout you need to order in advance, 20 minutes or less, but do not wait too late. Just like in the original in Red Hook you may get shut out of your favorite BBQ selection. Only so much fresh BBQ can be done in twelve hours.
Forget Katzs Deli the tourist trap. Im coming here for a pastrami sandwich! And its $7 cheaper than Katzs Deli at $17. There are always events going on here in Industry City on weekends. Love the food and fun but I hope they dont manage to gentrify all of Sunset Park this way. That would suck.

2022-07-22Got the brisket sandwich, very spicy but the meat was very moist. Service was slow.Edit - Have been back three more times and I have to say that the food is great, tried the ribs, the brisket, the Vietnamese wings, beef rib and at this point cannot tell which one is my favorite. This place is a must if you like barbecue

2022-06-06Doesnt quite have the same feel as the red hook hq but that is splitting at hairs. The chopped brisket in the sandwich cant compete to the thick slices you otherwise get, but its still an excellent sandwich. Industry city is lucky to have hometown bbq.

2021-06-05The brisket. I dream about the brisket. The brisket is my friend, my enemy, my everything. They have other dishes, dont get me wrong. But THE BRISKET.Now for the fine print:This is the smaller location. But dont fret - it has the same amazing brisket, with half the line. Yep, you heard me, half the line. They also have less food options here (no beef rib or jerk ribs), but the our friend the brisket is here.Debating between Korean Sticky Ribs and the regular spare ribs? I prefer the regular ones. They slid right off.Ill go to bed dreaming about this brisket again, like every night.

2021-03-14Finally finally finally I got their #1 rated always sold out pastrami... and it 100% lives up to the rating, BUT the bread kept it from getting 5 stars🌟 as looked and felt like grilled cheese bread. The bread wasnt bad... if just does deserve to hold this pastrami. Next in flavor favortness would be the pastrami bacon, the Korean sticky ribs, and the Vietnamese hot wings.

2022-04-17Hmmm..where do I begin? Maybe its the 10 minute wait to even order at an empty restaurant. So, lets start there. My husband and I are in town from St. Louis. We decided to try Hometown-Industry City to see if they truly knew how to smoke meat. We ordered 1/2 lb of brisket, jerk rib tips, beef ribs and fries. They didnt have beef ribs even though their menu indicates they would...nevertheless we proceeded to purchase the rest. We got the brisket and beverages immediately. The jerk rib tips and fries come from the kitchen. So, while we waited for that we decided to dig into the brisket. The first order was still bleeding on the backside and we returned it. The next order of brisket wasnt that great either. Let me just say there was 1/4 fat on the half pound meat. The bark looked lovely but was bland. The meat wasnt sturdy and felt more like minced meat in our mouths. I mean look at the photos, the quality of the meat or lack thereof is evident. Moving along...the jerk ribs came. They should not be called jerk because they didnt have the slightest hint of traditional jerk flavoring. They tasted like.....pepper/salt/paprika ribs....thats the best description I have for ya. The meat was quality but the flavor was dismal. The fries...well theyre fries...shaped similar to potato chips but thicker. Overall, this restaurants brisket and rib tips suck.If youre ever in St. Louis swing by some REAL bbq spots like Salt & Smoke, Sugarfire, Pappys or Bogarts. You wont be disappointed and youll definitely kiss the cook. Lol

2021-08-31I just love brisket! This was so close and we had never been. I got a brisket taco and my fiance had the sticky ribs. Stinking good! The mac and cheese was delicious. The cornbread was sweetend and made it pop. The potato salad we had as well but it didnt agree with our taste buds. Too any herbs and tasted like pickle juice. Everything else was great and we ate at picnic table outside and there was live music. Check ot all out at Industry City.

2022-07-20A year ago I was already here, I took sandwich brisket then and now. Last year it was juicy and fresh. Now, the meat is somehow not fresh. It looks like hes been spoken to several times. The price has gone up and the quality has gone down. Hope they change for the better :)

2022-05-01It’s a 1 for me, dog. I could live with the prices if the food was outstanding. It is not, not even close. A tiny flavorless portion of mac & cheese, half a pound of ribs (just say 2 ribs, guys, for $34) which came cold, underseasoned and tough, the wings were tasty but that could not save this meal. Dinosaur BBQ beats this place for taste and value.

2022-04-26I went to the location on a Saturday. I wanted the beef ribs but they were out of it. I had the Oaxaca chicken and a 1lb brisket with a side of their queso styled Mac and cheese. My chicken was actually pretty good and well seasoned. The brisket was decent nothing to rave about but to be fair I didnt drive it with any of their sauces. The mac and cheese was pretty meh honestly and I was expecting a bit more. Maybe Ill give the original location a try. Anywho the service was decent overall and there was a steady stream of customers and they ran out of food by 6pm ish so that must speak to something right.

2022-04-11Pastrami is usually burned lol. All other sandwiches and food are great. They used to have Thai sandwich, that was my favorite. Unfortunately they have it no more. But overall, I would recommend to try.
