Partly my fault for not reading my contract closely and believing the deliver truck driver. Back when I was renting a house in Ansonia I used this company for a couple of years. Knowing that I was probably going to move out I asked the driver what I needed to do in order to not have any more fill ups to the tank. He said, just letting me know is enough, we wont come back until you call and schedule a delivery. I trusted him and silly on my part for not actually calling the company. I moved out on December 31st 2016, by Feb 2017 this company went and refilled the tank claiming I never told them not to. Now the claim goes to court. I show up and I agree on my part that I didnt send a written cancellation of contract. So, they agree to just charge me the fill up rate and not the interests and other charges. I tell them right there that I can pay the full amount on the spot, the lawyer says no, I will mail you an invoice and you can pay then. So I waited. Then a couple of months later I get a notice from court saying I didnt show up for their second meeting and now I owe all the cost plus extra charges. After writing this review someone form this company contacted me (as you can see below), they helped lower my bill by $100, so at least that was nice.
I talked with Terrisa of the HOP Energy company to sign up for the oil delivery for my tenants so I would get the Annual Maintenance Plan to cover the heater. However, they unlike what she said, they failed to send an Annual Maintenance Plan that supposed to start in April as soon as I sign the service plan. It never came. Also, Terrisa told me that despite my assurance that my tenants do not need oil for a while since they filled the oil tank with the exiting oil supplier, she said there will be a call on April 28th, 2021, to ask the level of oil tank to schedule the next delivery,Of course nobody called about that .It turned out that Hop Energy or its subsidiary made a phony phone call to checked the heater in 10 min. In fact, nobody examined the heater but delivered unwanted oil and left a bill.I repeated cancellation via email but this Terrisa woman called saying they had a scheculed delivery. NONSENCE.STAY AWAY FROM THIS PHONY BUSINESS!
I hate doing terrible reviews, but I want to save some people the hassle. Since HOP took over for Kosco I have been charged over $150 more for my maintenance plan while receiving less- I was told I could only book my deliveries online when I tried that was “down for over a week”, ( when I asked to please do it when I had a rep on the phone fixing the issue of them over billing me) all the phone lines are always busy. I used to enjoy being a one stop shop customer with Paraco and Kosco since my $80 propane tank rental was also covered in my $350 maintenance agreement.. now I pay over $455 for the same agreement.. which I don’t get my$80 fee waived since they are no longer partners( which I get) but less is covered even though I pay more now .... I was “accidentally” billed for the $550 plan without agreeing to it.. if you don’t monitor your bill you will regret it! I can’t say I trust this company and I will be looking for a new company to give my business to next year. Extremely disappointed- dont waste your time getting wrapped into the new customer low rates once your a customer of 4 years they truly don’t care about you or your loyalty, unfortunately.
Very disappointed with this company. Im just about out of oil because since October, no one cared to call me to tell me the whistle wasnt working. They came yesterday and delivered me 12 Dollars worth of oil. No ticket or explanation as to why. Called this morning and was told you got a full delivery yesterday. Checked my tank and its just about empty. Called back and was put on hold to check with delivery and then was told about the whistle. They cant deliver oil till Thursday. Cant void my budget contract but will not be renewing my budget with them next year. Very UNRELIABLE!
. i do not usually leave negative reviews however-hop bought kosco a couple years ago- i was with kosco for 30 years and they were great - friendly and accomodating. i had a billing issue with hop - took me 3 calls to get to the right person- debbie- who was very nice- to get it straightened out. the 2nd time i called they were supposed to call me back that day- never did- so i called again 3 days later and finally spoke to debbie.in addition - i have a dog whos in and out of the house all day when i work- he can be a little intimidating - with kosco we set up a particular day first appt in am and i could leash the dog and have control.. hop , in particular the appointment lady- told me in a most unfriendly manner they dont do that. the last driver came the dog came out and driver left. i got called by the appt lady who said i needed to call to reschedule. i explained the situation again- and again very unfriendly manner was told we dont do that. i explained there is a driver who has come and delivered oil and apparently gets along with my dog because my oil tank gets filled and could they just note to have him deliver my house. well we cant do that . not a friendly representative and not willing to work with the customer .
Incompetent oil delivery. I ordered 125 gallons and they delivers the last 42 gallons from the bottom of the truck. I called to ask when the rest was coming and they said I would have to place another order. There were only 2 problems with that: 1 they still had my money and I wouldnt get it back to me for several days, 2 they said I needed to get at least 100 gallons. Well after they put 42 in I no loner had room for a full 100. If they cant fill the complete order then they should give the option to cancel or reschedule. I will never use them again and I steer everyone away!
I called Supreme energy this morning to discuss my budget and my credits. Spoke with Rita in customer service. She was extremely pleasant, friendly and knowledgeable. At 65 years old, I can honestly say this was by far the best experience I have ever had with any utility company or any customer service person.
This company has the worst customer service I have ever dealt with and is not the least bit concerned with any problems or issues if it is not making them profits. They are not ethical, fair and not willing to work with you in any way except to extract money from you. Very, very frustrating to talk to and they have not qualms about hanging up on you if you are trying to get to the bottom of an overcharge or wrong bill. They bought out a reputable company known as Mercury Energy in Waterbury, CT and I know have lost many good previous customers and based on my last call with them, will continue to do so. It is too bad but please RUN, DO NOT WALK AWAY if your old fuel co. gets bought by Hop Energy. There are so many better companies in the area, thank goodness!
I find it weird that when I cancelled for the technician to come they sent him anyway and told me a different proce than was charged. Then last month since they come monthly to top off the tank I dont see how I ran through almost 200 gallons in one month! And now I owe them almost 500 for one month. Makes no sense since we only use the oil for hot water and heating up the top floor when Im not home. Shady and Im about to find a new cheaper company.
Mike Bouchard from Hop Energy resolved a problem that we were having with the heat pump/air conditioning system installed in our house. These units have been working flawlessly until they stopped working and displayed a system error code. He was very pleasant and professional and explained in language that I could understand what the problem was. He was able to solve the problem and completed the service call in less than an hour. My wife and I especially appreciated that he used shoe coverings in order to protect our floors and carpeting. Mike is a great representative of your company.
Frank has been out to my home now twice. He discovered a leak in our tank before our first fill and since I am a renter, I needed to pass the issue along to my landlords. They replaced the tank and Frank just came back to inspect and fill it for me. He was courteous, knowledgeable and professional.
Horrible company to deal with all around. Set up a contract with them to fix issues with anything (which cost more of course), had issues with the furnace later down the road. They came out and fixed the furnace... Next thing you know, they cancelled the contract on us and we owed them for the oil they put in previously that should have been part of the contract at a set price in combination with oil and other maintenance issues. So, if you go with this company dont do contracts, you literally get screwed in the end.
I tried to do the survey but couldnt. Wanted to let you know that Patrick Doyle and his installed men were very good and helpful. I had to have a service call on Saturday because the was a loose wire from the installation that needed to be taken care of. It was done by a very nice young man. Thank you.
I just bought central air and Bob Gagnan the salesman told me when I get my first bill to call the office and they can set me up on auto pay. I call the office and Janice tells me I have to go to my bank for that. She cant even email me the form. She said the bank has them This company has no clue what theyre doing. So glad I didnt switch to them for oil.
These people dont know their a__ from their elbow! They double bill, their customer service stinks and Im finished with them after my yearly agreement runs out. They have taken over Koscos customers and have ruined 2 companies in the takeover. I must not be alone in my feelings about them.
Awesome reps, and great company. COD market rates seem lower, but when you need the majority of the fills during the winter time, the market prices sky rocket with pricing.. dont try to be a wiz and do it yourself, you end up getting screwed. Just go with a contract a lock in price.
We’ve had multiple bad experiences with HOP but after our first bad experience they worked hard to fix it which was much appreciated. However we went out of contract months ago and we’re clear we didn’t need oil. Three weeks ago oil was delivered that we never requested. We sent emails to our contact and have followed up the only response we got was trying to get us to sign up for another contract and that would bring the oil costs down. This is a PREDATORY practice. You can’t give me something I didn’t ask for and then try and get me to pay a little less because I could get a contract. We’ve reached out again multiple times without any follow up or response. Be. Careful with this company. They will try and lock you in to high cost oil any way they can.

2022-08-13Worst company ever ! During covid we used hop energy because they were the cheapest in my area and times were rough. We filled the tank and told them we will pause it because we had to leave out of state due to the death of my grandfather that we will not be home. During that trip they came back and filled the tank after I told them to pause the next delivery. When we return my wife got really sick and ended up in the hospital for a few weeks. Mind you driver did not leave a receipt at the house so I had no idea. Once my wife gets out the hospital its been 2 months since they filled the tank when we requested to pause service, we get a letter that we are being sued for non payment the bill came out to $695 ! Normal fill was $300 so I was confused on why the total. When I contacted them they advised me to pay the amount or direct any questions to their lawyer. Unfortunately we were unable to make the court date notified the court due to covid had a doctor sign off on a 14 day quarantine because me and my 3 children under 7 had tested positive. So now after all of that judge ruled in there favor because we were not there and now have to pay $1000 to Hop Energy for service we requested to pause. Never again will I go to hop energy and never again will my friends, family, or neighbors use their service. If I could gove 0 stars I would.

2022-02-26I could not be more satisfied with the service we have recently received and have been receiving from this company over the past few years. We have an old furnace on its last legs that needed a new blower, the original having literally fallen apart leaving us with no heat on the eve of a significant winter storm with frigid temperatures on the way. We had someone out to our home within a few hours who quickly understood the problem and though without the part at hand determined what was needed and they got the new blower the next day driving on icy roads to get us back in business. Everything from the receptionist taking our original call to the technicians who fixed our set up could not have gone more smoothly . This type of service has been the norm over the years!

2022-03-19DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY..... Came to my house to inspect the oil tank prior to my first fill, within the first 3 seconds of looking at the tank the delivery driver stated my tank was leaking badly and refused to fill the tank unless I changed the entire oil tank. Which was completely wrong because it in fact was not leaking. Fast Forward 2 days later when a separate company came out and filled my tank my oil tank has not shown any signs of leaking or even drops of oil for that matter.

2020-12-07Extremely disappointed with HOP Energy, who recently acquired Supreme Energy, whom Ive done business with years. I might not in the future!! A year ago, they serviced my furnace, suggested I may need an additional part for it to work optimally. They came to service it this year, found no issue, and due to the acquisition, customer records didnt make to HOP. (...perhaps a different business concern).Anyway, as I have an annual service plan ($189, increase to $199 this year by HOP), I requested they send someone out again before the winter season and advise on what should be done. Made the appointment, and...CONFIRM I would ONLY be charged if an issue was found and fix (if I agreed, of course). The serviceman from last year wasnt available, so a new guy came and couldnt find anything wrong. However, while standing in my living room, suggested I bleed my radiators and change the valves annually. Again, CONFIRMED there isnt a cost to the advise, but if he changed the valve there would be substantial cost. Valves at a hardware store are $5-$7/valve, they charge about $14 - $21/valve. Of course, I agreed to do this myself, than take on that ridiculous overcharge. Fast forward, I receive a bill for $119. Billing person was rude when I inquired about the charge, and then , yelled at me when I request to speak to a manager. She indicated that the charge was because he bled 1 valve, plus the charge to come to my house. This was even more upsetting as i requested confirmation about possible cost every step of the way.Anyway, while I hope to continue this with the BBB, but I thought other potential customers should be aware such BAD customer service by HOP Energy as well.

2021-06-21Horrible, Do not recommend, after i cancelled my services, I still received deliveries and was charged. When i called regarding this balance, I was told that there were notes indicatetint that I indeed did stop my services. However, when they transferred me to the account rep, he then switched it and said he never said that. He then said that he will review the recording and give me a csll back and never did. I called multiple times and was told that i will receive a call back, in which i never did. A couple nonths later I received a letter stating that my account will go into collections. I call customer service again and they were of no help, they stated that if i did not make payment my account will go into collections. I then asked for a copy of the notes on the account, since the last representative said thar the account indicated that i had requested all services to be stopped and they then said that is not something they are able to do.DO NOT RECOMMEND!

2020-11-04Jon delivered and tuned my oil tank today. When he called ahead of arrival to let me know he was about 15 mins away, I panicked because I was not home! I was actually on my way over to pick up my kids from after school sports. He was kind enough to let me know he will hang out until I get home. He did just that and was very informative and super helpful with any questions I had. He went above and beyond his job duties and I’m thrilled with his professionalism and happy demeanor. Their prices are lowest I can find in my area. Agents were friendly and scheduled us for a quick oil tune up and fill up for the season. Super happy customer.

2020-12-06Exceptional service: The day after I received my first oil delivery (in Natick, Mass.), I could smell oil near the oil tank in my basement, although there was no obvious spillage. In the afternoon, I called for service regarding this. Even though their service department had had an extremely busy day and the technician couldnt come until 11 pm, he *did* come. With great courtesy, he checked everything, although the odor had dissipated by that time. And he told me to call again anytime if I smelled oil.
