Cayuga Medical Center in other cities:
Been here since Wednesday at 6 pm and still here at 921 am Thursday morning with no diagnosis. DO NOT come for mental health. The staff is very rude uncaring. No compassion whatsoever. This room we are in has no call button no blankets so I have had to get my daughter her own blankets. Anyway been in this room from730 pm Wednesday to 130am Thursday morning with no one to come check up on is. No water or snack was ever offered by nurse. Thanks to the security guy Jim my daughter was able to eat and drink. You left a patient alone for over 6 hours no contact what so ever. I guys we will continue to be ignored and wait on a diat
I hope this message finds it’s way to those that took such great care of me during my surgery. The admin staff, nurses, doctors, anesthesiologist, and neurosurgeon were absolutely amazing.Rachel, Amy, Ilan, Abby, Jen, Dr. Mahmoud, and surely other names I am forgot during anesthesia. All of you were fantastic individuals and made me feel extremely comfortable during surgery. The laughs and fun conversations were a real highlight of our stay, so thank you all very much for your kindness!
As a person with Crohn’s, I have been in this hospital many times in the almost 20 years I have lived here. The care from every single medical department has always been top notch. From Radiology to Infusion, from the baby ward to the emergency room, I have never had a bad experience at this hospital. Most recently, my mother had to visit the ER. The staff was attentive, informative and kind, despite us having to quarantine until our negative COVID results came in. Thank you for your professionalism and care. I trust my life and that of my loved ones at this hospital.
Went in because me and my one year old randomly got a bad cold, really bad that she would cry & was throwing up plus a fever. Nurse said it would be a few minutes to get a room. No one was in the waiting area. A few minutes turn into 6 hours. We waited 6 hours and never got seen , we slept in the waiting room, in uncomfortable chairs with no updates on when we will be transferred to a room. As well as when we would wake up the waiting area filled up with 10 plus more people then before. This hospital is the absolute worse I went home with no medicine for my child nor were we seen. I even asked the nurse how much longer with no solid answer. This happened not once to me but three times.
I really wish I had found these online reviews before going there. Like most everybody else, I waited over 4 hours with no updates along the way. 5 other folks around me were in the same boat. When the doctor finally saw me, he read my symptoms to me and asks What do you want me to do about it? After going back and forth for a few minutes, he told me to go home and try Tylenol. He wasnt at all trying to be nice or even professional, and he made it very clear that he just wanted to free up a bed. I do not recommend this hospital at all. After digging around this morning, I found an article about how someone died in their waiting room. What a horrible way to go, in a hospital, in a freezing waiting room surrounded by nurses/doctors ignoring you.
I came in with a friend who severely cut his hand. His wound was VERY serious and the hospital staff did not attend to him until well over 4 hours of us being there. The entire time he was bleeding and at one point he began to start shaking and feeling light headed. We kept calling nurses over to express the severity of his injury and we were continuously ignored and dismissed. This was by far the worst experience I have ever had while trying to receive medical care.
I had surgery for a bilateral inguinal hernia repair with Dr. Ripich on April 12. I couldnt have been more happy with how I was treated. Everyone was extremely friendly, and helpful. I went in a bit nervous, but my nurse, Mihaela, had excellent bedside manner and was great at making me feel comfortable.Prior to the surgery, a couple weeks before, I had a CT scan. Again, the team was fantastic. My CT technician, Peri, also had a wonderful bedside manner. In both of these instances I was quite nervous, but both times I felt better after these 2 employees made my visit that much better and made me feel that much safer.I will be coming here for any procedure I may need.
Zero star if I could. Do not go there. My 2 years old daughter was in pain, so we went to ER. We waited for three hours at the ER. A nurse got our information and vital and sent us back to the waiting room. She said it takes even more longer and when we asked how long, nobody answered. Finally, we decided to leave without getting service.
The medical care I received was adequate. However, the billing department here is the most hostile and inept I have ever encountered, and their self-service system for the hospital itself and the associated services is byzantine beyond belief. Despite my 5-digit surgical bill otherwise being paid in full, they sent me to collections for TWENTY DOLLARS and put a huge ding on my credit without ever attempting to communicate with me. A request for assistance from Patient & Customer Relations was completely ignored.
This week it took from Monday to Friday for my surgeons office to get an ultrasound scheduled. And it will not happen for 13 days after I was told by the surgeon that I need one for a diagnosis to be made. Two issues. One is the M to F time it takes for CMC to schedule an appointment (reasons are their system was down and the phones werent working, but there is a difference between reasons and excuses CMC). And two, why can X-Rays be scheduled within a few days but there is a 8 or more day waiting line to get an ultrasound--inadequate staffing, not enough equipment, or just a very poorly run Medical Center? When I told this story to my medical providers at Guthrie in Sayre, they were aghast. My experience at Guthrie in Sayre this week: A shuttle bus picked me up from parking lot and delivered me to front door, where Volunteer Transport helpers wheeled me to the 5th floor for lab tests, then from the lab to a doctors office to be seen by a doctor, who within an hour had my lab test results to discuss with me, The difference between quality of care and service by CMC vs Guthrie at Sayre is astonishing!
Got treated terribly there. Was in sub waiting room and left by myself for 45 mins. Had blood drawn and the whole time i was waiting there- there was already a room waiting for me. Got in room and didnt see anyone for hour and a half. Had some testing done. Waiting on results took 3 hours!!!!! Waiting room was filling up with other people and i wanted to get out of there asap.asked 3 nurses for my results and i got no response. Didnt feel i got treated like a human but more like a number. This hospital is for the birds. If you want to be treated fairly go elsewhere.
Went in with chest pain and my left arm feeling numb. They said my blood pressure was high and they would get me into a room really fast because of my condition. Two hours later, they were taking back a lady that had literally bumped her head and a guy with his foot ace bandaged before me. Not impressed with there lack of caring about people that need real emergency treatment.
Their billing office is criminally incompetent. They inappropriately filed my sons insurance claims, costing our family hundreds of dollars. They consistently lost my payments (its unclear to me how this is even possible!) and then sent a 17 dollar bill to a debt collector, even though I paid multiple times. When I tried to speak to someone on the phone, staff are rude, brusque and extremely unprofessional. They now seem to have outsourced all billing questions to what seems to be a call farm, which is extra scummy.
Hi mamas,Just wanted to share an awesome experience I had with our health system here in Ithaca. 6 weeks ago I switched my primary care to Pine Point Medical and saw Tess for weird stomach pain. She was amazing and that day had orders in for me to get an ultrasound of my Gallbladder. Turned out I had gallstones (yay postpartum!!). Her and her husband Doug referred me to Dr. Rippich at the Cayuga Surgical Specialists office for a robotic cholecystectomy. Dr Rippich was so fantastic and eased all of my fears. Surgery day I was a hot mess and the staff at the hospital was so great in keeping me calm. The anesthesiologist was phenomenal and made me feel so safe and secure. Dr Rippich was calm and caring, the staff was so great, I wake up screaming from anesthesia so the staff let my support person be at my side when I woke up. Tess called me that day to check in after surgery and ensure I was doing ok. The whole experience was phenomenal. A month later and I am feeling amazing. The surgery was minimally invasive and I actually got yelled at at my follow up for not resting enough, that’s how great I felt a week post op.I literally cannot put into words how grateful I am for this health system and the awesome practitioners in our town. I cannot recommend pine point medical enough. These doctors are fantastic and Dr Doug Macqueen works at the hospital and knows everyone and can make great reccomendations. Our hospital system is so great and everyone is so professional. We are lucky here in Ithaca ❤️
So far so good; we have had only positive support the few times we’ve needed the ER over 15 years; and recentlymy husband has received excellentCare in the ICU; thus hospital is clean , quiet, simple ; the staff is focused, kind and efficient!I think they may have saved my husbands life;W much gratitude; we are in the process of a major healing, awakening and physical, spiritual transformation! W much gratitude to the entire staff at CNC; from the EMT To check in; front desk, ICU nurses, telephone staff; doctors; techs and Nathan +++ in the dietary/ nutrition Dept! Thank You everyone! My only wish now is an upgrade and integration within the dietary / nutrition to collaborate w the amazing local farms/ growers to incorporate “farm to hospital” ; IE; bone broths, carrot ginger soups etc; local free range poultry ; and meals using foods prepared w local organic Produce and products! THAT to upgrade to a pioneering/model hospital Nutritional system!
Fantastic patient-centric care. A great place to seek assistance. Please don’t give a wretched review for trivial nonsense. Waiting? We’re in a pandemic, and the medical field has critical shortages. Hurrying can compromise care of the patient, and the staff. Have a bit of empathy for people that are literally dying for you.If you have enough time to post a negative review you have enough time to apply, and effect the change you think needs to occur.Thank you, one and all, for serving this community. If I had money I’d donate
If I could give zero stars I would. Theyre extremely slow and very unprofessional. When I went there with my fiance we waited for a total of 12 hours for them to finally tell us that they didnt know what was wrong. Its was definitely a waste of time and most of the doctors there act like they dont know anything so I definitely wouldnt recommend Cayuga Medical Center to be the best hospital unless if you just want to waste your time dealing with stupidity.
I waited for almost an hour at the ER. A nurse called me in to get my information and sent me back to the waiting room. I decided to leave without getting service since I was told the wait would be even longer. I informed both the nurse and the secretary. 10 months later, a debt collector calls me with a $170 charge from Cayuga Medical. No mailed bill, no phone calls, no email, no notification thatThey did not take my insurance (Yes!! I had insurance!!), And NO SERVICES. I fought the bill and lost (Cayuga claims the charge is correct). Absolutely the worst. Not to mention the secretary was so rude that my chaprone called her out. I also saw a microagression while I was in the waiting room against a colored woman who had been there for hours and still didnt get service. I am appalled. Simply appalled at Cayuga Medical Center.
DO NOT GO HERE. I went in college for treatment. I had to order my own CBCs because the nurses and doctor basically ignored my complaints, and they tried to let me go without testing me again for what I went in for (if I had left when they wanted me to - I would have had complications, so be prepared to advocate for yourself like crazy even if youre on pain meds). They accepted my insurance (and still do according to their website) and then charged me for thousands of dollars more, I worked with them to resolve it right after the fact as it was an error so I didnt pay it...because it was their billing error (read the comments, seems like its not uncommon for them).. but then last month (almost 5 years later, I dont even know how this is possible) it came up on my credit report as a COLLECTIONS DEBT. LITERALLY DRIVE TO ANOTHER TOWN BEFORE GOING HERE I DONT KNOW A SINGLE PERSON WHO HASNT BEEN BILLED INCORRECTLY. If you want to ruin your credit go to this hospital. I went from nearly perfect credit score to this. I cannot believe I have to write this to warn people.
The hospital itself is great, but the Google location is incorrect. The actual hospital is located 10 minutes away at 101 Dates St, Ithaca, NY. I have submitted a request with Google to update the address, but it hasn’t gone through yet. I’m hoping no one else with an urgent health emergency mistakenly drives to the wrong location.
Objectively the worst experience I’ve ever had. From the waiting room all the way to now dealing with the billing department I haven’t had a single positive experience. This was my first visit here and I will never go back, everyone I know will never go there also. Would give 0 stars if possible.
Waited for 3 hours and got no service except for the nurses (for no particular reason) taking temperatures and measuring weight, and got billed 200 dollars. Not sure if its just this hospital or hospitals in the US in general, but unless you absolutely have to dont visit this place.Dont reply with the useless canned response please.
The people are very sweet but honestly, unless youre not going to make it to another hospital, try another hospital...Ive always been told it was a miracle I even survived that place and after what my grandmother went through, I agree. Their website for paying bills isnt user friendly in the least and their financial office NEVER has their information together. Ive never struggled so much with paying bills.3 stars is generous and the extra star is for the majority of the nurses and doctors being sweet.
In my experience, I’ve been treated like a worthless waste of time and contacting patient services does nothing. In fact, they ignore emails, requests for help, and in the end, the only person who suffers is you. Transfer elsewhere. No one deserves to be guilted about their understaffing, lack of organization and doctors who don’t listen. There are some good people on this team, but they aren’t allowed to shine.
MARCH 24 2017: I am so impressed with the care and service that I received from two recent visits to Sports Medicine and Athletic Performance. Dr. Seemant is an outstanding physician, so kind and caring. I am so happy that he is giving me options to avoid surgery again. The athletic trainers, Adam Long and Katrina Marshall were wonderful. Adam even checked on me and asked if I wanted a drink while I waited. The wait time was minimal. I have never had that happen at any other doctor visit! They gave me as much time as I needed and answered all of my questions. They are all at the top of their field. As a commuter, it is great that all of the services that I need are in the same building. I would definitely recommend them!!!!!! 5+stars!!!!
Unprofessional and negligent staff. Very unorganized. Never communicated that results had to be given after evaluated by a doctor so we waited four hours after the blood test because the nurse said we would definitely get results soon after the blood test. So we never were able to get the results because we had to leave and when we asked at the end they finally told us she had to be first evaluated by a doctor. When I complained they were very defensive and basically said it’s not their job to explain which job title tells the patients their information and that is ridiculous. They also said they can’t hand out medical record information to just anyone which is understandable but they should have told us how it worked when we got there instead of promising results soon without seeing a doctor.
Do NOT go to this hospital unless it is absolutely necessary. In September, i arrived with a kidney stone — excruciating pain, and vomiting. I’ve had them before, and I know that pain medication and good care is absolutely vital during the process of passing the stone.I didn’t receive pain medication immediately or even quickly. I was taken to an ER room, given a vomiting bag, and was not given pain medication until I was found on the floor an hour and a half later crying on the floor and vomiting.I later received a CT scan, and shortly afterwards passed the stone. However, I wasn’t discharged until HOURS after this fact. I kept pressing the buzzer, and nurses would tell me they would discharge me soon, but had other patients to take care of. I arrived at the hospital at 7 AM, passed the stone around 11:30 or so, and wasn’t realized until at least 3 PM. This was on an ordinary weekday.Months later, I was billed a $600 bill for horrible care, one CAT scan, and some pain medication. I have great health insurance, and have never been billed this much for a kidney stone visit (im originally from Pittsburgh). I’m a pretty broke college student, and have been working overtime while being a full time student to pay this bill. I’m so upset by this experience, and I highly discourage anyone from stepping foot into this hospital.
Having now left the ER not for first time mind you, for poor service, wait times beyond comprehension, and all around incompetence I can say with certainty that this is the worst ER on the planet. For the past 6 years my wife has had many health issues only made worse by surgery and ER visits to Cayuga Med. Each surgery ended in infection, picc lines and home nurses. Though they do have a few wonderful doctors they are busy apologizing for their co-workers. If you value your life and are in emergency need I would do my best to get to Upstate or hell anywhere else close enough to make it too. 8 hour waits when you think you have clot are unacceptable. Sitting without a word from a nurse or a doctor for hours unacceptable. Listening to the ER doc chat and joke with a nurse about his thought that my wifes pain is constipation right outside our room (CT showed the 5 inch tumor in my wifes hip that he couldnt see he must be blind) unacceptable. I could go on for days with the list of mismanagement, rudeness, incompetence, all around mess that this ER is but I think you get point. All these things could be easily fixed but it seems they have no care too. Nothing has changed in the last 6 years. I know there are good people there trying their best but if your life is on line I would think twice before going to Cayuga Medical Center ER.
Very poor communication and care! You hit the nurse button an aide comes to say your nurse will be right in, 45 minutes later still NO NURSE. Theres concern of a broken neck, MRI done almost 3 hours ago and still no results. Was told after asking whats going on it takes a while because they have to send it out to be read. Very terrible service.
A lovely staff, however the waiting can be excruciating. I waited two hours to be allowed into the examination area, only to find out my appendix was on the verge of rupturing. When the pain became almost unbearable, I called for two different nurses requesting pain medication. It ended up taking twenty minutes for them to return at which point I was close to passing out from the pain. When it came time for the surgery and my actual admittance into the hospital though, the doctors and nurses couldnt have been more gracious and lovely. Id say that overall the hospital is great, but things could be managed a little better on the first floor.
This review is based 100% on administration:Im so tired of being sent a bill that should have been dealt with by Workers Compensation. Ive been telling them the same thing for 3 years now. STOP SENDING ME THE BILL. Absolutely atrocious administration. Its no wonder people would rather pay more at Urgent Care or Guthrie. At least the service is consistent. HOW MANY TIMES DO YOU NEED TO BE TOLD THAT IT WAS WORKERS COMP?Honestly, the staff are quite pleasant and the Nurses are awesome (I know a few of them). The administration is pretty much the worst, which makes no sense because they are the ONLY hospital for miles. Has anyone done any research? Where is all that money from the state going?
They are beyond slow and not thorough whatsoever. Ive been in this emergency room going on 6 hours for something that should have taken 2 hours max. Not to mention the waiting room was swarmed with people who really needed to see a doctor but priority went to those with not as serious issues. Terrible staff and overall dont waste you time.
An amazing Staff from the front desk when you enter the Hospital all the way to the nursing staff and MD. The Care that my Mom received was nothing less than amazing! She was taken care of like a family member to the Hospital through her end of life. I would like to say thank you from the bottom of our heart to know there are still outstanding Hospitals, that care!!Thank you!
Very unprofessional employees. Which is truly horrendous and terrifying at a hospital.Be careful if you are a young female in need of emergency care. Doctor was extremely unprofessional and made my young female friend feel extremely uncomfortable with his vulgar comments. A patient should feel safe at a hospital, and Cayuga Medical Center made us feel as though our friend’s safety was in jeopardy.
Went in yesterday for tension headaches, stiff neck and throwing up.There was only two people in the waiting room including me. Of course more people came in but they were getting called sooner and quicker than me which is weird. I waited two whole hours for them to tell me there’s no order people get called based on illness. So when I asked based on the people who is are actually in the waiting room when can I expect to be called they told me they can’t say it’s fluid. That form of operation is obsolete, if someone they deem is more important comes in every thirty mins I’ll never get seen. Ended up leaving after hearing that BS. Unprofessional, negligent and dismissive. I’m from New York City I thought the cities hospital were bad but here they don’t even seem to give a hoot!! WILL NEVER BE GOING B ACK THERE AGAIN! I CAN SEE NOW WHY MOST OF THE REVIEWS ARE ONE STAR!
I went in for a Maxillary Osteotomy. Staff was very friendly and courteous. While I would like to give these people more than 1 star, not a single nurse I was assigned knew the recovery procedures for somebody who has had the operation. They had inadequate supplies to deal with the swelling that occurred and generally had no clue what to do with me. At one point we had to call the surgeon so that the nurses would have an idea what to do. Love the people, hate the service.
The care I have received and that other family members have received has been exceptional for the most part. What prevents me from giving a five star rating is the billing system. Over time it has gone from sporadic late billing and late processing of payments to improper billing, poor tracking of payments, and phone calls of an almost harassing nature due to their sheer volume. My latest complaint is being called and billed multiple times about a bill that has already been paid, including confirmation from my bank that payment was rendered on such bill. And with confirmation that I did include the correct account/invoice number on my check. I do not believe it is my responsibility to follow up further with my bank because your record keeping and routing of payments are faulty. An unbelievable amount of stress and time spent for a $48.38 bill.
Diane was flippant, rude, negligent and very unclear. I was in a lot pain and tried to communicate with her multiple times but it was like talking to a wall.Thank goodness for the other staff who were incredibly helpful and professional and eventually helped me to get the treatment I was looking for.I would consider training/re-training Diane at the front desk of ER in communication, empathy, and customer service in order to create a better experience for future patients.
What can I say that hasnt already been said... The wait times are crazy here. And the staff is disorganized and forgetful. We had to remind our Dr. A few times that we still need a shot before being discharged. We waited 6 hours to get some saline splashed on a dog bite that is now very infected. If we knew that we would just have that happen we wouldnt have gone. Go upstate if you have to go to the ER.. Thats where they will probably transfer you anyways.
This is a review of the ER specifically.* They left me screaming for over an hour in a hallway with the worst pain Id ever had. Then they asked if I could stop screaming. (Uh, no.)* Faced with a severe flareup of a chronic inflammatory disease, my girlfriend waited for several hours in the emergency room waiting room before we simply walked out and bought ice and packed her bed with it, since it was obvious we would get no medical treatment. They called four other people who had also given up on the emergency room and left (since they werent in the waiting room any more!) while we were waiting.* Someone recently (2017)died while waiting in the emergency room waiting room; I read about this in the newspaper.* They are severely understaffed. There are between 0 and 1 doctors available at any given time that Ive been there. There is nobody on call (I was told this by the triage nurses). The administrators refuse to change this. The nurses and doctors are complaining but nothing changes.* Someone else I know had a serious wound in her leg from a bicycle accident. The emergency room had nobody who knew how to pack or bandage it. After hours of delay, she was transferred to another hospital an hours drive away, where she found out that the delay had done permanent damage. She would have been better off if she had taken a taxi an hour away immediaely.* Faced with a patient (again my girlfriend) who had progressively worse shortness of breath, they failed to put her on any monitoring system at all for half an hour until they were yelled at. (The nurses stated that they were simply trying to see too many patients at once.)The emergency room here is a phony and the hospital should have its state license revoked. I will be happy to talk to any state regulators about removing the hospitals license.Do not go to this emergency room under ANY circumstances. If you think you are going to die in the next hour -- get someone to drive you to Syracuse, Sayre, Binghamton, or Elmira. Period. If you go to this emergency room it is worse than nothing.Postscript: The Patient Relations person called me within ten minutes, because apparently they spend their time monitoring Google Reviews. She offered to let me talk to her and the PR Vice President. I asked whether either of them had the authority to actually change anything, like hiring more ER doctors or hiring a list of on-call doctors at the ER. She said that they did not. I said I would be happy to talk to a President or someone who actually had the authority to *fix* the systemic problem of understaffing the ER. She did not offer such a meeting. I believe they are attempting to whitewash the problems and remain unwilling to fix anything.Added postscript: after two years, the ER is still a fake -- it is simply not staffed like a real ER -- and the hospital should still lose its ER license. (Read the other reviews.) In the last two years, the state convicted the administration for illegal union-busting and firing whistleblowers when the nurses complained about the short-staffing. But it is still understaffed. If you are doing something routine or scheduled, you will probably be fine at CMC. But this is a criminal, fake emergency room. I cannot repeat enough, if you are having a real emergency, if you are bleeding out or in extreme pain, go to Sayre or Syracuse. At Ithacas CMC, the fake ER will kill you.I attempted to start the process of getting the ER license revoked because the fraudulent, understaffed emergency room is killing and maiming people, but the state does not have a process for reporting fraudulent, deliberately and maliciously understaffed emergency rooms. I guess it is not something the department of health thought anyone would be evil enough to do.
I went to the ER twice. The first time, they incorrectly diagnosed me with a UTI when I had blood in my vomit. I had another test done the next day at Cornell Health and confirmed I in fact did not have a UTI. When I told the nurse I did not think a UTI could result in bloody vomit, she said that my body was overreacting to the bacteria. My second time, I was discharged from the hospital within 5 minutes with the note to take some antihistamines which I was already taking. The manager of business incorrectly told me that physicians assistants have MDs on the phone (this is recorded). This blatant lie was told to force me to pay for a 5 minute visit during which a real doctor (one with an MD) never saw me, no samples were taken and no treatment was given. The receptionist was on her phone the entire time I was checking in. Did not help with my paperwork but was having a heated text conversation.I understand that Ithaca does not have many options for healthcare. This does not mean that Cayuga medical center can exploit the sick for their financial gain with questionable medical treatment and lack of professionalism.
Easily the worst experience of my life. This is a poor excuse for medical care. The staff is extremely rude and incompetent. I was left alone in a room for hours just for someone to come back and give me discharge papers. These nurses are the worst people I have ever met and are an embarrassment to the medical community. I was left on the street with a fever and swollen tonsils because emergency rooms cannot provide tylenol. My uber driver actually took better care of me than these medical professionals
Today I under went an ACL reconstruction. I hope Cayuga medical didnt half ass my surgery like they half assed everything else. Ridiculous that I have no idea what to do after I was discharged. Yea I should have asked more questions, but for my doctor ( Dr. Young) to not even come back to see me after surgery makes it kind of hard to ask questions, especially since the nurses couldnt answer any one of the questions asked. I am strongly disappointed on how poor things went today. I acquired this injury over a month ago and a half ago and had to wait week by week while you just kept giving me pain pills thinking that would solve my problems. Finally I had surgery and the assistant who called acted like it was her first time using a telephone, and today I get no direct discharge instructions that were specific to me personally. I was given an ice machine style ice pack with no instructions on how to use or care for it. Was lied to on how my knee was wrapped up and that damn ace bandage doesnt even cover where the whole knee immobilizer brace is so its really uncomfortable. Only time I talked to my doctor was right before I was put under anesthesia so I remember nothing he said and was still in the recovery room longer than expected and still did not get a visit from my surgeon doctor. Not one clear discharge instruction while I was awake and stable enough to understand instructions. And my girlfriend who worked at a vets office knew more about what the nurses were supposed to be/what they were doing then the nurses did about the simple little tests and thing. Very very disappointed and would never recommend anyone to go there. Not to mention I asked for graham crackers 30 seconds before the nurse brought me back saltines and piss warm ginger ale, and while she wheeled me to my vehicle waiting she bashed my freshly worked on leg into it and giggle thinking I was still to numb for it to not hurt. Come on. Giving doctor licenses and nursing certificates to anyone these days. Not very professional.
I wish this hospital, would hold its doctors and staff more accountable. I was scheduled for tonsil removal here. When I arrived, I was told I needed to completely undress; even though the doctor separately, and instructions from this same hospital (the night before) both told me I didnt need to undress but rather that I needed to wear very comfortable clothing. This conflict in information made me question the nurse and whether they even had the correct information. Next I am told I would be required to have a urine pregnancy exam; even though I was also prevented from drinking anything for over 5 hours prior to arrival. I replied that that there was zero chance of pregnancy given other medical issues, but also that I had no need to go; because I had not been allowed to drink for the past 5 hours. My throat was so dry I could barely talk, given the warm weather. Unlike other hospitals, where such tests and their need are no big deal and the doctors trust in what their patients say (Ive had 2 other recent surgeries at 2- different hospitals); this was turned into a huge deal and lead to cancelling surgery. Frankly, given the poor communication and neurotic staff I had encountered to that point, it was fine with me. The doctor seemed to want to wash his hands of all associated responsibility, which didnt sit well either. Well, its a good thing because I received a letter in the mail the very next day from that doctors office (Dr. Cryer) and which was mailed less than 1 week prior to the surgery The letter indicated a requirement that I not take certain anti-inflammatory, aspirins, and acetaminophen type medications for 2-weeks prior to the surgery. Given the surgery was scheduled with 1 week notice, that would have been impossible. This doctor had just had an appointment with me 3 days prior and did NOT say one word about any this; even though he had in my records that I take prescription strength Ibuprofen several times a day. The fact is, he had little to anything to say during that pre-surgery appointment and just deferred everything to others. It seems he didnt even take responsibility for discussing this important conflict and instead just relied on his staff to write me a letter (but his staff failed to consider that a 2 wk requirement should be mailed at least 3 weeks prior and not the week of surgery). Separately, I still have a tape recording of the Surgicare staff also telling me to take those same anti-inflammatory medications in the early am of the day of surgery. It seems they didnt get the doctors letter either. Ive since found a wonderful out of town doctor who is very engaging and who takes full responsibility for his patients care. He immediately spoke of the issue (that these meds can sometimes cause heavy bleeding). The new doctor spoke of several subjects such as this that werent covered over multiple appointments here.
My sister was in the ER until 2 in the morning with pregnancy complications. They gave her priority, but the doctor who saw her was very rude, and brushed her off without testing. Not even for the things recommended by the midwives. She ended up having to miss a day of work to go back for tests that should have been done that night.
The absolute worst. It’s sad there is only one option here (Ithaca) for emergency treatment. From the welcome you get at the door, to your interaction in the hallway, the poor communication from professional to patient, the discharge process and as a former employee the manner in which your treated even as their “own” is absolutely disgusting. I have never had anything positive to say and still as an emergency room patient have nothing to say. 😷 disgusted
I fell and broke my hip on the first evening of our vacation in Ithaca. I was taken to Emergency where numerous tests and examinations were given. I was transferred to the Short Term Stay section and the orthopedic surgeon on duty (Dr. Dirk Dugan) worked me into his surgery schedule around noon of the following day. We were very pleased with the care and skill of everyone we interacted with from Emergency, Orthopedic, Short Term Care Staff and the team that helped with my post operative care and discharge. In addition to Dr. Dugan, special thanks go to Christine Payton, Orthopedic Nurse Navigator, who went over and above with her efforts to make sure everything was in place for my release and follow up with PT in home assistance and two week follow up appointment. This involved a great deal more effort on Christines part since we were staying in a rental home almost 200 miles from Ithaca and not returning to our home in Houston for another two and a half weeks.
I will begin this with stating that I am a nurse. Cayuga employees treat their volunteers miserably. They do not have the class, courtesy or professionalism to make them feel welcome. They are rude. I know of students from Cornell and Ithaca whom were ignored by the nurses at Cayuga. They introduce themselves and offer to help and do not even receive a courteous reply. If they ignore their volunteers, imagine the lack of attention they give to patients! I worked in a tertiary care center in Westchester county... we appreciated and valued our volunteers. That courtesy was extended to our patients.
Just left the e.r. without making it past the waiting room. Because of chronic pain, I had to leave because I couldnt stand the pain anymore sitting in the waiting room. Im crossing my fingers and hoping my medical issue ( that my Dr sent me there for) isnt anything really serious. If it gets worse, we will just go to syracuse. In all the years Ive been going to this Hospital, and as frequently as weve had to; it has only gotten worse. Ive been reading comments from prior employees and almost every single one of them says that they are crazy under staffed. People have died because of it. They have talked to the administration repeatedly and they ignore it. I hate its the only Hospital in town. The administrators should be sued for negligence.
Cant speak for the entire hospital but I am happy to adress issues with the pain clinic. So, your 6there to be treated for lower back and DISABLING leg pain. First, lets park the car. Chances are good the best parking including the Handicap spaces are takin by administration staff so they can smoke in their cars on breaks. Now lets go check in ,I always tried to be 15 min early, at the first stop we go to the desk on ground level . Maybe theres a line, but usually you can get thru that and get off your feet in 10 minutes. Dont get comfortable, now we go down stairs to the waiting room and they will be with you shortly! After a bit someone will again review your paperwork and allow you to fill out a couple more forms. This time we use red ink to show where the pain is(weve only been coming here for a few years), now we go to the exam room and the nurse will be right in to take your vitals. There are some good people that work there, and there is more than one good Doctor, but I have WAITED 2 HOURS or more on at least 8 or 9 appointments! After years of this being the standard, I said in my Big Boy Voice that I was not only a patient but also a CUSTOMER. I want to speak to the Administrator and tell them of the lousy service. I wasnt allowed to speak to anybody but the NY STATE POLICE CALLED me and said that the pain clinic management felt that was a threat, I agreed that I threatened to complain to the administration. They have Zero tolerance for threats. I never received any thing official from the hospital and the Trooper was very nice, there was no talk of me being in any trouble BUT HERE IS THE KARMA ! I spoke with a DOCTOR I TRUST and was referred to Doctor Ralph Ortiz out by Dryden. Been seeing him about 6 or 7 months and I NO LONGER WALK WITH A CANE OR TAKE OPIATES! I dont know why they didnt use the same treatments and technique. they were certainly available. And the years I walked with a cane, wasted. I know they SUCKED A LOT OF MONEY AND TIME OUT OF ME. I walked my Daughter down The Isle a couple of weeks ago with out a cane, if I was still with them, well, we will NEVER know. Dont be afraid to get another opinion, wish I had done it different!
I broke my wrist and went to the ER here. At 5 pm on a Saturday evening there was no wait and I was admitted immediately. It did not take long for a PA to see me and order x-rays. Even though the ER seemed reasonably empty, waiting for the x-ray results took 1 hour, getting a splint took another hour, and getting the x-ray results for my other wrist took a third hour. It was a little frustrating waiting so long just to hear whether or not my wrists were actually broken. One thing that bothered me is that I felt like a grocery store item. Before I received anything (tylenol, ice, etc) a lady would roll up with a glorified cash register, beep my wrist, then beep the item she was giving to me. I was imagining my bill rising every time she did that...
If it was possible to give you zero stars I would. I was there for 6 days (May 10th-15th) and the care was absolutely awful. Disrespectful nurses, uncalled for searches of my belongings, doctors would not do anything to help me, and the medications and equiptment I need for my disability was NOT EVEN CALLED IN! You people are lucky I didnt have a lawyer present! WORST HOSPITAL CARE IN THE STATE!!!
I am always disappointed with CMC billings. Dealing with childrens ER & convenient care billing are the WORST I have ever dealt with. If you dont want them to waste your time, I would recommend Guthrie. I wish Guthrie could make it happen to build their new facility in Ithaca as quickly as possible!!!
Many thanks for a positive experience! Nurses were very empathetic and inquisitive. I was admitted with altered mental status due to a concussion. The neurologist helped me remember that I had a downhill skiing accident 2 days prior that I forgot. Brain swelling sucks! Cayuga Medical Center does not.
There billing department is terribly incompetent and could not answer why I received a letter from a third party on behalf of CMC asking me for billing information they already had, she said that I should have received a bill from them which I did not and should not have as they had all my information and it’s workers compensation,, if they were on behalf of CMC then they already have the information they are asking for. But yet the lady in the billing department had no answers or idea at all . Besides the billing the actual care is a band aid, I went in knowing something was wrong with my knee and they took a x-ray and told me nothing was broken,, to go see an orthopedic doctor. I could have skipped the ER and x-ray and just went to an orthopedic cause I already knew that I didn’t break anything, I went in for my knee which is requiring surgery after my orthopedic doctor looked at it and sent me for a MRI. Thanks CMC for your care
I have been here multiple times, taken by ambulance for seizures. This is, without a doubt, the worst hospital I’ve ever been to, and the reviews speak for themselves. I would rather risk it and pay to be taken all the way to Crouse or Upstate than risk being under their care ever again. Do not come here unless you have zero other options.
Slowest hospital service I have ever experienced. Waited over 2 hours for my named to be called in er. Wasnt even busy. I was having terrible pain, yet people who came in after me were seen before me.Update: still in the waiting room 4 and a half hours later... Unacceptable.
It’s quite pitiful and shameful that your responses to every single low rated review have just been copy pasted and in some cases the name not even changed. This is disgusting and you should be shut down immediately. My friend went and had to wait several hours just for some help. Fire everyone working there immediately and hire competent HUMAN workers. Disgusting. Grotesque. Awful. SAD!
My sister recently had a baby and was given a pacifier to take home. According to every source out there, including the American Association of Pediatrics, a pacifier should not be introduced until breastfeeding is established 4-6 weeks. She was given no information on how to use a pacifier appropriately, as I was surprised when she sent me a picture of her newborn with one in his mouth. If this hospital does not follow recommendations from the AAP and the NIH (and countless other sources), what else are they doing wrong? Scary, huh?
They knew what to do the last few times I was there so far its been a very friendly community base type of environment. but they do that to hide how racist they are.but what ever you do do not bring your children here racist people get strings pulled here, just letting it be known its bad enough the towns out here have a lot of racist and to add to it this hospital is one of there strong holds.
Went to ER at 9am, was told no ER Dr comes in till 11am?!?! Triaging ppl in a hallway outside ER, instead of private available room right next door. They allowed ppl to leave the ER but not enter due to HIPAA, really?? Had relatives visiting from out of state that were APPALLED the way things were run.
Cayuga medical both the emergency room and admissions is full of unprofessional inconsiderate staff as they are rude an worthless I have waited for 6 1/2 hours today For no diagnosis as I came with a hurt wrist an got x rays that they are incapable of reading. Not a great hospital.

2022-06-09Terrible restaurant. The barium swallow was tasteless, and I had to schedule out a reservation a full month in advance for their radioactive oatmeal special. Apart from the food in the imaging department, the experience was great. COVID protocols are well enforced but efficient. Service was excellent and streamlined and I was waited on promptly, even though the parking lot looked packed.(In all seriousness, I had to get a bunch of x rays done and Im grateful it went as quickly and smoothly as possible.)

2022-04-12I have been at this Hospital twice in the last 3 weeks. The first experience was when I was being admitted for knee surgery on March 22, 2022. The process was pretty easy going though all the registration. The operating room staff was great. I had no issue until I came out of surgery and went to my room for my overnight stay. My room was clean but the bed was from hell. It was so uncomfortable and it put so much pressure on my already hurting body. I kept trying to get comfortable and the wires, IV, sheets and my sleep apnea machine were all in tangled. I used the call button to get help and someone came in. This woman saw my distress and I said I am all tangled and she said Yes you are then walked out. No help, I am in pain and distress. This was the night shift and I will tell you that the nurses and staff on the night shift were not very good. In the morning I got the a breakfast that was cold, dry scrambled eggs and 2 small pieces of cold bacon. I will say that my day nurse was amazing. She was kind, compassionate and she listened. The hospital makes this big deal about your meal before you leave. It was a nice meal, but I could not eat it. My son said it was good. But my point is make all the meals good. The food was nasty most of the time and the bed was no place to rest and heal. The night staff was inferior and the day staff was excellent. I was not impressed at all with this Medical Center. Now the ER visit on Sunday April 10, 5pm arrival. After my surgery my digestive system was not working, I could not feel the natural urges needed to urinate or other body functions that I had before surgery and I was having issues with the previous knee surgery. I was in extreme pain on all levels. My friends brought me to the ER and it was quite busy. After about 10 minutes I was brought back for triage then parked in a wheel chair until 11:30 pm when I was brought back to be seen. I made my friends go home after 3 hours of waiting. I was alone, in pain and scared. When I got brought back I cried, the stress and pain of sitting in this wheel chair was difficult. The ER was nice and seemed concern and listened and started the testing. One test was to rule out blood clots in lungs even though I had no symptoms. When that came back negative I was being pushed out the door. My issue with the lump in my thigh and the nerve pain was dismissed and my other issues with my digestive system and lack of feeling in my bladder and bowels were not a concern and I was told to do outpatient with my Dr. I was shoved out at 5:30 am. I was worse than when I went in. They did find a UTI. I wonder why? No other doctor was consulted, nothing. I got all the standard paper work and a taxi. My ER nurse was like a very professional robot. Not much compassion just doing the motions. The pain and discomfort from the bed or whatever they put you on my knee, and body was well over a 10. I suffered from Sunday evening 5pm until Monday morning released at 5:30am in that ER. This hospital is a very low grade hospital. They have their fancy equipment and boast great things, but my opinion is that it is a second rate hospital and needs lots of improvement. The ER is not the kind of ER this community needs or deserves. I bet my bill will be out of this world but my service and care was well below the cost. I really cant express my sincere disappointment with Cayuga Medical Center in just about every area of care and service. Ithaca deserves better. I will not go to this hospital again ever if I can help it.

2022-02-04Everything went great til it was time to leave. my nurse said it would b about a hour til the cab could get to me after a hour had passed I asked about my cab & it still hadnt been ordered. when I left to come to the hospital I was in such pain I couldnt even take my dog to go potty. my poor dog is probably about to bust bc some receptionist would rather gossip than do her work thats why my cab didnt get called to come get me til quarter to 5 & I had been done & discharged since 4pm.

2022-03-15This by far is the worst hospital that I ever had to deal with. They kept my daughter in the emergency waiting room with a concussion for 6 hours!!! If it hadn’t been for me who kept calling the er . I live 1300 miles away. She’d still be sitting there.I feel sorry for the good people who live in Ithaca

2022-06-07Horrible treatment in the Emergency center. Genuinely ran out the doors, they clearly don’t care for their emergency room patients at all. I asked multiple times for help and was shrugged off even when I was in tears. Go somewhere else if you’re 18-25.

2019-06-10Amazing staff and healing environment. I was treated for an emergency surgery and, compared to the many other hospitals I’ve experienced, I was able to recover in beautiful, quiet surroundings. the doctors and nursing staff took care of me throughout the stay and carefully monitored my healing process. I stayed for 17 days and couldn’t eat for several days so they gave me a picc line nutrition support. They also treated me for chronic fatigue caused by anemia—so I received two iron infusions and magnesium and potassium infusions. I left much healthier and happier than when I arrived.

2021-12-07I got an MRI with contrast and nerve conduction studies on two separate occasions recently. I was so impressed with Shannon in imaging and Buffy and Dr. Gaffney in neurology. Everyone took the time to explain what was happening before it happened and repeatedly checked in with me during the course of the procedures. I have a moderate fear of getting poked by needles, and I felt like these folks made me feel as comfortable as possible during the most uncomfortable parts. I felt respected and supported. Thank you!

2022-06-16Dangerously negligent staff. For your safety go anywhere else if possible.I got physically assaulted by one of their nurses after a surgery. I was having a reaction to the anesthesia and instead of helping me, she attacked me. The nurse left bruises on both of my arms and wrists. After attacking me she just left me to “deal with my anxiety” as I was just asking for a family member to come in and help.I would have filed a police report but I was recovering from said surgery and did not have the energy to do so.I had another nurse mess up an IV for a CT scan and so when they put the fluid in my arm, it contorted and became temporally paralyzed, after I regained movement it was completely weak, bruised, and sore for a month after this which made me unable to work, and I had to go without pay during that time. They are so negligent a patient died in their ER waiting room and they “changed policy” but still leave people waiting in emergency scenarios for 4+ hours without being checked in on.

2021-12-14If you have a choice, do not go here. Unfortunately, we had a life threatening situation, we were in the ER for 7 hours waiting for tests, results, and admittance. That would potentially be acceptable/understandable, but it has been 7 months since that visit and a constant battle with the financial assistance department. They do not respond to emails, they do not answer the phone, and have now denied the application due to the income of anyone in the home, regardless of financial responsibility or tax filing. If you try to contact anyone to discuss or get some answers, good luck, it simply will not happen.EDIT: They stated that they would try to reach me to fix this, as seen below in the company response. Still no resolution, they have not responded to repeated voicemails.

2021-07-20This is about my experience with them for 2 years ago when my baby was born there. Absolute perfect midwives and excellent delivery experience but then things got changed. No support from nurses at all, we were left alone all on our own till next morning. None of our questions were answered and they verbally abused my wife during lactation and other stuff. Even the pediatric were shocked when they visited the baby next morning. With all means avoid there for your child born.
