Really hard to point out a positive thing about this hotel....Our room had a leaking faucet in the bathroom. Not dripping, but streaming. I let the front desk employee know about that, but no one cared. The room itself looked nothing like the pictures on their website. It was just big enough to fit a bed in there. On the second day I broke the room key (but Im really not that strong) so I asked for a new key. They didnt have one.So I left the hotel in the morning, and they said there would be a new key upon my return. But there wasnt one....They just took the broken key and taped it back together. So of course that doesnt work! Still no key available, so I asked the employee how I would be able to get in my room now, since there was no spare key, and no master key either. The employee said: I know a way to get in, because thats how the maids do it. He went to the room with me and opened the door using a credit card. I almost felt like a criminal getting into my own room. Then I got a new room because of everything that was wrong with the first one. This other room was pretty much the same, except the tv was hanging from the wall in a weird angle. And the faucet did not leak, so that was a small plus. But that little positive thing was negated by the fact that there was no mirror in the bathroom, and everything was covered with stains. When I got back to the hotel after a day out I saw that someone had replaced the bathroom door, without notifying me, even though there was a do not disturb sign on the door. The entire floor was covered in sawdust. This hotel was the cheapest option, and it showed!
This is my third year in a row of staying here and I have to say this year (2019) was the most unpleasant. The bathroom on our floor was out of order all weekend making us seek out other ones on other floors. There was no a.c. unit in our room and the light/fan combo wouldnt let us pull the cord to turn off the light. So we have to keep the light on all night as we slept to keep the room cool since there was no a.c. And the final thing- I in 3 years have never been told about the breakfast room!
Staff were friendlier than I expected. The location was perfect near my nieces apartment and Columbia and not far to subway and Central Park. Also the room was larger than I expected. As it is an older building the room wasnt perfect but I could overlook that for the price and location. I was over all pleased.
Good place to stay, if you want to save some money! We didn´t experience any bedbugs (but were so afraid of them because we read the other comments before just after booking online). The room was small but clean, to my surprise there was a rather new refrigerator and an old small, but good aircondition. There was no safe, but i expexted that regarding the price. The common bathrooms must have been renovated, we had no problems regarding hot water. Overall it was a nice stay for really cheap, the hotel had everything we needed for a really good price!
STAY AWAY FROM THIS HOTEL!!! This hotel is the worst experience Ive ever had in a hotel. First they did not honored the reservation I made in their website for 9 days, when I arrived at the front desk the clerk was very apologetic and gave me room for one night, the room was not good at all, no AC, no blinds and the mattress was very soft that you can feel the springs form it. I was not happy at all that I booked another hotel and went back to the front desk to ask for reimbursement on the one night I was not going to use at all, they did not reimbursed my credit card, so they stole my money and did not want to give it back. There are a lot better hotels in the city for similar price.
If I could give less than one star I would!!!This place is the worst hotel/inn I’ve ever stayed in. Even the average backpacking hostels are cleaner than this!Basically everything was molding and the bed was like from the 19th century... the shower was a complete disaster, moldy and leaking and there was always a puddle of water in there that didn’t go into the drain...When I read the reviews I thought “well it can’t be that bad” but it was.The only good thing is that it is quite close to Central Park and you can be in downtown Manhattan easily. But that is really it!
I put one star because I had too. I however, rate this dump a 0!!!!!Lets see we got there at 145 pm for 200 pm check in and the woman would not let us check in. So we went to the Yankee Game came back to the elevator broken. My boyfriend had to climb into the basement to get our luggage. When we finally got our room we found out that the room I booked was given away and we got a room that had 2 beds, an old beat up phone , refrigerator, and alarm clock. The door would not open all the way because it hit one of the beds. Not to mention the rug was filthy, stained, and overall disgusting. One light bulb in the ceiling fan worked , there was cardboard above the light going into the ceiling. The worst part was sharing a bathroom with other guests. You had to wait to get in, it was filthy and dirty with one toilet and one shower. The best part of this place is when you first walk in. The rest was falsely advertised !!!
Cheap, but contrary to many other reviews our room was fairly clean. Location is nice in Manhattan and close to the metro. WiFi not working though and be aware there are people knocking at the door telling you elaborate stories of why you should give them some money for pizza.
Overall I would say it is OK to stay there for a few days if you can keep the expectations really low. Positive to mention is the hotels location. It is loud all the time. Water dropping shower (not fixed after request) thin walls and lots of electrical sounds. Warm (not hot) water only after letting the water run for several minutes. Chemic smell in the whole hotel but really strong in the room. Its an old hotel and almost everything makes you feel that.
Very good place to stay. We had a problem with the first room we were put in but they immediately changed us to a better one. There is always someone at the front desk, which is convenient and makes you feel safe. The rooms are ok. We had a private bathroom and it was perfect. Theres a TV and a small fridge. I think its a great place for the price. The area is great, with good places to eat and buy stuff. Very close to the subway. Totally recomend it.
Decent place, bathroom is shared with the whole floor of probably around 15-20 rooms. So very inconcenient, as toilet papers were out and was not refilled for a while. No shampoos, towel and thin bar of soap is provided. Kitchen but no pots, pans or plates/utensils. Look is old but you get what you paid for. The breakfast is included which was coffee and packed muffins. The doors seemed very easy to be opened even if locked. Keys are to be returned when going out. Would try another place for more money if I knew situation ahead of time.
1st of all its a shelter not a. B n b. THEY should charge 10.00 a night. Dirty rugs dirty sheets thank god I brought my own. The elevator was out of service. Bathrroom nasty had flood problems. I ONLY GAVE IT A 1 BECAUSE NIGHT STAFF WAS VERY NICE N HELPFUL. THERE IS NO BREAKFAST OR ANY OTHET AMENITIES THEY CLAIM IS THERE. ITS A SHELTER FOR HOMELESS PEOPLE .DONT WAIST YOUR MONEY. WHAT A BIRTHDAY😢
I will give five stars based on the budget it was on in holiday season. It was not on the great location but the rooms were warm and clean. We took room with one queen and twin bed. The view is not to die for but the location is easily accessible from the metro station and it is close to the central park.Reception people are helpful.
You get what youre paying. Small room, broken air conditioning, shared bathroom, and funny smell of the room itself. The receptionist are somehow not that keen to provide friendly and decent service. If youre travelling to New York on a budget and only need a place to store away your baggage without worrying about staying a long time in the hotel, this is the place
Ive stayed here twice. The first time was alright. Our room slightly tilted, but no other problems. The second time, however, we were greeted into the hotel by two employees loudly arguing with each other. Our hot water and radiator turned off in the middle of the night in December. And our TV randomly stopped working, and couldnt be fixed until the next day.Its bearable if youre on a budget, but Im probably not going to stay here again. Also, the wifi may as well be nonexistent.
Rooms are very small. A full size bed, a bureau, and little else. Rooms were hot and humid. Some windows opened; others did not. Shared bathroom in hallway lacked soap. Water on the floor of the bathroom. No desire to try the shower. But it was clean and relatively cheap.
Disgusting place every single bed piece had stains.box spring looked like soda spilled all over it. Was honestly afraid of catching bed bugs. The smoke detector was in a dresser draw. The shyt looked like something out of a horror movie. The asain lady at the front desk attitude stunk when we bought our stained pillow cases down she insisted they were clean so i asked would she feel comfortable sleeping on this we recieved no answer. She suggested we turn the pillow cases inside out. Check out is at 11am no compromise or you have to pay for another full day. Another guest literally looked like the walking dead. This place needs to be shut down!!!! Dont waste your money
DO NOT STAY HERE!!!!!!!!!!After being foolish enough and staying at this hotel for MANY YEARS, I can honestly tell you to avoid this place at all costs. Spend a little more for a better place. I have learn my lesson the hard way. (stubbornly learned)Keep in mind I travel to NYC roughly 6-8 times over the summer months and have given these people thousands of dollars in business. I book WAY in advance, usually in January.THE GOOD:First of all, its a great location, close to the subway, plenty of places to get food, Duane Reade around the corner. Its generally very quiet. I dont think I have ever had to wait for one of the shared a bathrooms.THE BAD:Most importantly..... YOU MAY NOT EVEN HAVE A ROOM WHEN YOU SHOW UP!!!The people who own and work at this place dont care about you, and are not helpful in any shape or form. Not helpful at all.2017: I usually book though hotels.com but for this particular trip I saw a lower price on Morningside Inns website. I go to check in and thats when the person at the desk informs me Oh you booked through the website, you shouldnt have done that, it doesnt work and Sorry we are full booked And pretty much, so what, dont let the door hit you on the way out. He didnt give a damn. You would have thought I would have learned my lesson.....2018: Labor Day weekend, after a long day I was exhausted. I go to check in at 9:30pm, this time Im informed that the day before there was a flood on my floor, so I have no room. What?!?!? So why didnt anyone call me to tell me? Again the person at the desk really didnt seem to give a %#%. He did let me use his phone to call hotels.com since my cell phone was dying. Gee so nice of him. Luckily this time I booked through hotels.com and after hours and a lot of work they helped me get a hotel by 1am!!!!!!! This is NYC and Labor Day weekend of all times, not easy to find a room last minute (it cost me 5X as much money for this new hotel, but hotels.com reimbursed me back the extra cost, I cant tell you how relieved I was)Again, I should have learned my lesson......big time...but noooooo2019: This year I made it a point to call the day before to confirm my reservation. I called 2 weeks ago on a Friday for the following day, it was confirmed. I even asked if my other reservations were showing. Yup. Everything was fine. However when I got to my room it wasnt even cleaned. Good thing there was a spare available. (even though they claimed to be booked)Now my next trip comes. I called last Thursday I was told my reservation was confirmed an all set. Shortly after I get a call back and the girl tells me no, that my reservation had been CANCELED. And cant give me any reason why. On top of that, she had NO RECORD of my other 6 upcoming reservations!!!!! ARE YOU KIDDING ME?This year I have booked through agoda.com and they confirmed that my reservations were active and confirmed. They called Morningside Inn Several times and told me they couldnt reach any manager there and the people they did talk to at the desk were rude. (agodas words) They have tried to reach the hotel manager by phone and by e-mail, and as far as I know now (Monday Night) no one has responded to them.As I said I book well in advance to save money and to ensure I have a place to stay as NYC is such a busy place. They completely screwed me over and now its going to cost me much more money to re-book 6 more hotels for the rest of the summer. If you dont learn from my mistakes, well good luck to you. Perhaps you will get lucky and enjoy it. Or perhaps you will show up and have nowhere to stay. If you like the save money and are a gambler type..... go for it!!!
If I could give less than a star I would. Small and smelly rooms. Bad customer service. We stayed there for 3 nights and on or last night, all electricity in our room stopped working. We talked to the front desk person and they told us that there was nothing they could do about it because it was after 4 p.m. I told them that this situation was unacceptable to which they replied “welcome to Morningside Inn, I hate this place.”Please do yourself a favor and don’t stay there. Not worth the price. The location is not bad, but also not amazing.
I understand what comes with a bargain value place but.. as another said, cancel while you can! Unfriendly staff, small 2 inch high pillows (and one per person), cant trade in the dirty towels when we declined maid service because the maids have gone home, cold showers. Room is either too hot or too cold because you dont control the heater.
Room was very clean and neat.Bed was comfortable. But you have to share the shower and bathroom with other guests. Similiar to a hostel.Walls are thin in between rooms so it can be a bit noisy if your neighbors are loud. The inn is a bit pricey considering you dont have your private bath and shower. But otherwise clean , neat and quaint. The T.Vs. Could also be bigger.Ok for a one or a 2 nite stay but thats it.Front desk staff is nice and friendly.
I will NOT even recommend my worst enemy to ever book into this hotel. The problem starts from management (PATRICK) right down to front desk staff (CYNTHIA). Never book online to this hotel. They are cheats and clearly they need more than a crash course in customer service relations. The manager literally hung up the phone to avoid paying a refund. If you wish yourself a miserable stay in NY, try this JOKE of a hotel. It is amazing it still exists. Management and staff should be replaced. They are rude, uncouth and downright inept. Imagine a manager yelling at customers ??? NEVER, NEVER use this hotel unless you wish to be tormented and insulted in addition to your credit card being charged without your notice or authorization. Manager Patrick is a raving lunatic and unfit to be management material. I think a job as a prison guard will suit him best.
So disappointed with the manager Patrick. The room and they didnt tell us we have to share bathroom with others!! We reserved a room through their website and when we got there we had to cancelled because of the condition. They dont give us a refund back at all and when we tried to contact the manager Patrick, He got mad and started yelling over the phone and kind of threatening us by saying, you dont know who I am, you dont know who youre messing with etc... I was SHOCKED!!! Clearly, They need to hire a new manager, someone whos patient and knows how to deal with customer frustrations!!! If youre not patient and dont want to help others, you shouldnt be a manager. RULE #1 ALWAYS assumed that youre customer is right!! Until now, we still havent got our refund at all and we dont want it since I dont want to get yelled at again and its not going to be easy to get it back. Hope they can sleep better at night with this kind of service.
If it wasnt for the professionalism and realness of the manager Patrick, I would rate this hotel no stars. After the episode upon our arrival housekeeping leaves a huge question of level of care. Our bed was just complete flith and unmade and bathroom tub flithy. BUT manager listened, apologetic and is taking care of the situation. I will say this one thing, there is a housekeeper on Thursday morning who was super, she came to our room to check to see I if we were ok.Overall please if you need a quick place to stay please make sure you book with Patrick only too ensure you will be well taken care of.Guest 2As mentioned by guest 1 the room was a complete mess and filthy. When we asked for the room to be cleaned it was ignored. There was someone elses scum in the tub, a literal hole in the wall and poor housekeeping service. However, the manager patrick was so understanding and polite about the whole situation.
The hotel itself is in a good location. Wasnt necessarily dirty, but dated for sure. The property reeked of smoke (tobacco, weed, something else). I found what appeared to be a makeshift syringe out of a thumb tack in the bathroom. The neighbors were loud and you could hear right through the walls. Neighbors locked certain access doors and I was unable to get to my room at first. The shared bathrooms and kitchen were clean and functional. Had all neccessary accomodations, but is not nice.
It was ok. It was clean but needed major upgrading. They advertised a 2pm check in and told us we would be lucky if we could get in by 330pm. They also told us there was a locked room to store our belongings before we checked in (since we arrived in the city at 830am) it wasnt what they said. Not impressed. Nice area though.
We booked a deluxe room for 4 people six months ahead our Easter weekend in NYC. When we arrived at 11am, we were told the room would be ready at 3pm, so we decided to walk Central Park, shop on the Fifth Avenue and come back at 4. When we came back, the same lady at the front desk told us that there were no room left, only one room with 1 bed and no bathroom. I was astonished, since we booked 6 months ago and had a confirmation number. She told us many times, despite explaining the situation to her, that there was nothing she could do. She had all day to try and fix it but she did nothing. She gave us a paper with 4 others hotels to try around the neighborhood, and we were really afraid we wouldnt be able to find another room during Easter. When I asked if she would at least call for us, she said she couldnt. We were stressed and didnt have time to lose so we went out and called by ourselves, sitting on the sidewalk in front of the hotel. If at least she would have called and payed for the first night or something, but she didnt even apologize and tried to help us even if she knew when we came in the morning that we would come back later for our room. Fortunately, karma was on our side and we found somewhere else, but I still cannot believe how she didnt care. You cant trust a confirmation number because they wont honor it.
This is the worst hotel i ever stayed in. There was not a single thing good in this hotel. Room was very safocating, ac was not working, lift is not working, bed was bad( it makes too much noise), bathroom was in bad shape, there was even drainage pipe in my room. On top of that the hotel staff was not welcoming at all. He was very rude. The photos of hotel uploaded in google is far from reality.
When we arrived I paid $230 to upgrade to a private bathroom. The window unit was so loud you could hear it from the elevator. The toilet seat still had stuff on it. At 1am we asked to move to another room. They said to wait til 2am so we did and moved into a bigger room. It was nicer. We got up at 10am & left the hotel. At 5pm we came back to our stuff packed and a note on door saying to come to the front desk. They said we had to move out of that room and that the guy didnt switch us in the system so we cant stay there. They tried to put us back in a smaller room that the door wouldnt lock. I refused and asked for refund of my $230 upgrade. She said manager wasnt in & I would have to wait til the next day. I said do I need to come back in, she said no he could do it from his machine. They never refunded the money. I ended up leaving and paying $550 to go to another hotel. I called travelocity & my AMEX to try to get some money back considering I stayed only 1 night and its cost me almost $500 for this 1 night in this crappy hotel. The manager has lied to travelocity & AMEX saying that I was told it was just for 1 night to stay in the bigger room, that we packed our stuff ourselves & that I just left the hotel without saying anything. Yet I recorded the conversation about returning the key & what they wanted me to do. So Im glad I did that. Im hoping to get some money back. We will see. But I would never recommend this hotel to anyone!
You get what you pay for. I needed an inexpensive room just for one night, and know from experience that even a very expensive hotel does not guarantee you a good nights sleep in noisy NYC. I actually slept fine: not much noise, no bed-bugs, etc! The staff looked bored and were unhelpful, though.
Hotel with bad conditions, bad hygiene.Bad treatment, bad hygiene. The bathroom for collective use. There was no water in the bathroom. No air conditioning. I do not recommend this hotel to anyone. a terrible experienceThe hotel ad does not match the ad on the website. Nothing is true, many rats inside the hotel
This it by far the worse hostel ive ever been to. Unless you want to simulate being a refugee, stay away from this hostel. First night our three beds single reservation turned into a one bed sleeping on the floor. And it was obvious they knew it. The room was in terrible shape as well. The key did not work and the staff used a credit card to open the door. Next day they did not apologise but promised we get a triple room and they move the bags to our room. When we came back, they had not moved our bags... they used super lame excuses why they have not had the time. The new room was soaked in cigarrett smoke. Every five minute the valve on the heater started to scream like crazy. Please do not book anything here, pay a few bucks more. I promise it is worth it!
Worst hotel ever. After 2 days I started to get red spots all over me, and soon it started to itch like c r a z y! If you do not want 92 (true story) bedbug bites, you should stay far away from this place. The manager, Patrick, promised us before we left that he at least would pay our dry cleaning bill (and ointment against the itching), since we had to laundry all our clothes in 60+ degrees celsius before entering our apartment at home. (Expensive!!)He answered our first e-mail that he would compensate us, but then nothing happened and after 3 more e-mails with no response we gave up.Now we want to warn others not to do the same mistake as we did.We never saw the bedbugs in the room or the mattress, but our bags was on the floor near the bed, and when we came home we saw them in the bag.And the itching continued for days. Please, stay away from this place.
This place is a scam. We booked a room for eight nights, and we paid more in order to get a bigger room. The room they gave us wasnt the same as the one we booked, but when we informed the receptionist about that she said we werent the first one to complain about this prolbem. The room was small, and the hallway was noisy. The only good thing wad that its close to the Line 1 of the Subway.
THIS IS THE WORST HOTEL EVER!! We booked and got confirmation but when wegot to the hostel they had overbooked. The personnel were unfriendly, rudeand childish. They said that it was not their problem and they did nothing. They did not propose us any alternative or solution. And the did not evenhelp us finding another place. It was 21.00 and we were in NY without anyplace to stay. So, we had to go to a pub to connect to the WiFi and bookanother hotel. We ended up paying twice as much. Besides, we had already paid10% of the stay, which the do not want to give it to us back. We are stillargueing to get our money back.
If I could leave a no star I would first start off with walking in the place was so hot like they had no air conditioner. The place is not like it shows online PLEASE!!!!!! Read other reviews, the front desk lady was dumb first was like I dont see u on my room list. Had an attitude but it doesnt suprise me she was ratchet looking. The place is so ugly and maintenance is horrible. The rooms are small and are not cared for . U have to share a bathroom with the whole floor. DISCUSTING !!!! The tv didnt even work , said no signal, the ac in the room is so small and u can see where its installed theirs cracks large enough bugs can get in.! As I was leaving I saw other families with the same look on their face. Luckily I got another hotel but i regret no believing the reviews on here. And no this isnt worth what I payed for. CLEANING LADY WAS SO NICE THOUGH . Thats it!!!!!!! Pshh I didnt even wait for that crazy man Patrick !
This is a place for just spending the night, if you want to walk all NYC and do some sightseeing and just need a place to sleep then this is your place. Had an issue with my room but the staff quickly gave me another. The only thing that some people would find strange is that the rooms doesnt have bathrooms, they are located between two to three rooms.
For the price I cant complain! The room was ok. The location is perfect. Right in the center of everything. The staff was friendly and helpful. The only complaint is the bathrooms. They were dirty and werent cleaned, but were usable. Overall I would recommend this place to anyone looking for a cheap night or two in Manhatten.
Had a great stay here, the clerk on duty Tanya was EXCELLENT. She helped me over the phone and when we arrived to the inn. She was very knowledgable about the area also. Im so glad she was able to help us because we had booked with Royal Park Hotel and Hostel and I explained to here that they didnt ACCOMODATE US. At that time she explained to me what I needed to do. The room was cleaned and the bed was comfortable. Thank you again Tanya
We paid just over $1000 inc. tax for 3 people for 7 nights in a room with a fridge, en suite and cable TV. We put a do not disturb sign on the door every day and werent bothered at all. The reception was friendly and helped us out whenever we needed. The bedclothes were stained a little and the walls were pretty thin (whenever our neighbour took a shower it was like the heavens had opened and were pouring in behind the wall) but at this price, whos complaining? The subway is very close and the Duane Reader pharmacy/supermarket is even closer, there are even a few cafes, a ben and jerrys shop, gamestop and others nearby. I heard others had issues with bed bugs a few years ago, so I did a check and found nothing. Thanks for making my trip to NY the great thing that it was.
Where do I start? The check in procedure was absolutely farcical. It would be hilarious if it didnt cost me 30 minutes of my life. The guy in charge of checking us in was more concerned with stuffing his face with pepperoni pizza and slurping down his Red Bull than giving us our room key. He wanted me to calculate the exchange rate I paid for my deposit FOR HIM, i.e do his job for him. The room is akin to a sauna. There is no breakfast.
Rooms are too small. The service to clean rooms is bad. Some days they clean it and others didnt. Many people that works here are very kindly but others doesnt want to help you. I needed help to print a tickets for a game at MSG and a man on front desk didnt help me and the option was that I sent my tickets to his personal mail (???)The price is too much against you receive
First, let me say that I found the place to be clean. The room was small but we had plenty of room to sleep and we would have showered IF THERE WAS HOT WATER!!!We arrived on a Friday afternoon, as someone was yelling at Patrick, the manager about there not being any hot water. The man threw his key at Patrick. We inquired and he said it was being fixed as we speak. He invited us to check out the room before we checked in and then he gave is a small discount ( $30 off entire stay) because we were nice. We came back that evening, hoping to shower and there was still no hot water. The woman at the front desk said they had called someone to fix it and they were coming. She must not have known that Patrick had told us in the afternoon that they were already there fixing it. Hmmm...24 hours later, there was still no hot water and we had an event to attend that evening. We went downstairs and asked Patrick about it again and he said it was fixed. We had just left the room and the water was stone cold. We told him that we thought an additional discount was in order because of the lack of hot water. He flew into a rage and told us he already gave us one discount and why did we think we deserved another one and did we want him to lose his job. My friend stayed downstairs talking with him while I went up to check the water and it was still cold. He started screaming at my friend, kicked her out of the building and called the police on us!!! When I came downstairs, he told me that he felt threatened by us, he was concerned for his safety, we had to leave and the police had been called. I told him we would stand outside and wait for the police. When the NYPD arrived and realized that we were the problem, they thought it was pretty laughable that this big burly guy felt threatened by these 2 middle-aged women! He told us that we had a right to have hot water and a right to stay there because we had paid for the room and if we discover that our stuff is gone from the room when we return, we were to call 911 and they would help us. We returned to the room at 5pm and there finally was hot water. However, it was scalding hot and very difficult to control. It took me about 15 minutes to get it to usable temperature and then there was very poor water pressure. But at least we could finally shower! Its too bad. I would have stayed there again since it was clean and convenient. But Patrick either needs anger management classes or he needs to find a new line of work. I work in the hotel industry as does my friend, who used to own a motel. There was no need for him to react the way he did. His anger was misplaced. Perhaps if he had been more forceful with the plumbers and less obnoxious to the guests, the whole issue would have been resolved to everyones satisfaction!
Walls are paper thin. The heat was blasting and there was no way to control it. The only way you could try to offset the heat was with a ceiling fan that didnt make much of a difference. Communal bathrooms and showers, but the rooms do have sinks in them. Beds and pillows were awful and I woke up with a very painful back and neck ache. Would not recommend, if you want to be somewhere near the city you can get a much better place in Jersey city and just take the PATH over. It will be worth it.
I made a confirmed reservation on line with a deposit through my credit card for a two night stay at the Inn. I arrived at 10:30 pm with my 10 year old daughter and my immunosuppressed disabled sister-in-law (we were in town to see her daughter). We were told there had been a mistake and they had no rooms. We were told this happens frequently. A young woman spent an inordinate amount of time trying to deal with us but told us she had no authority to help us in anyway except to call another hotel. We had to go stay at a hotel with which more than twice as expensive and very far away. By the time we arrived it was 12:30 pm. The next day I called to try to speak to the manager starting at 8:00 am. One number on their card listed as “switch board” did not work at all. The other number was never answered and so I left a series of messages saying we assumed we would have a place to stay for the second night but could not travel all the way back up town as we only had one day in NYC and we wanted to sight-see, not spend hours dealing with the hotel and for the manager to please call back. When we made it back up at 5 pm there was a new young woman with no authority telling us she had no room for us. She could not reach the manager and claimed we had not called but then played one of the messages I had left that said “Hi, I am calling again…” She told us the manager was not allowed to call us back as it was an “out of town” number. She could not reach the manager. Another 1 and ½ hours later (lots of time when you have ONE day in NYC), we took the subway to another much less desirable neighborhood for a more expensive hotel. Upon arriving home I called the manager (Patrick) who was unbelievably rude, never apologized, only offered to refund the deposit and claimed again I could have never left a message for him. He finally hung up on me.This situation seems especially wrong as they surely would have kept a full night’s fee had I not shown up.
This was a really terrible place. Ive planned to stay here for 7 days and made a reservation. But I stopped my schedule in 3days after check-in. If you would like to experience a disconnected wi-fi, (especially)very unkind and rude manager, dirty bathroom, and unpleasant tour, Stay at the morningside-inn. Most of things are really different with informations and pictures of their website. I have forgiven up my New York tour schedule and checked out three days earlier without any refund. A cheap cost means a cheap treatment. Especially I cannot forget the managers bad attitude. In my opinion, the manager should learn about the meaning of customer-oriented service. Id advise you not to go there.
This was the worst hotel I have ever stayed in in the whole 24 years of my life. We were forced to beg for towels and washcloths. They failed to even know what a washcloth was. The staff complained when we stopped to talk to another guest in the lobby. In my experience lobbies are a place for socializing in hotels. The bed was uncomfortable and the pillows horrible. After the first night my back ached and I am still young enough to blame it on the bed not age. I heard another pair of guests complain about finding an insect in their room. Being completely candid I think this building should be condemned and torn down.
Yikes! They tried to charge more than my booking and argued with me even after I produced email (from them) with promised rate. Place is literally collapsing with exposed support beams and you cant even use the commode without knocking your knees against the wall. Adding insult to injury there was street construction all night long so I barely slept a wink in the horribly uncomfortable beds.
BED BUGS! My husband and I woke up with bites all over us and had to clean every single thing we brought as soon as we got home. The rooms and hallsways are dirty. The staff is unbelievably rude. God forbid you ask them a simple question. Honestly the worst place I’ve ever stayed in.
The Morningside Inn is not a pretty place to stay. The mattresses are unbearably hard, the facilities are not terribly clean, and the walls are paper thin. But, if youre coming to NY to be out the whole time, this isnt a bad place to stay. Also, the breakfast is cookies and coffee--not pastries of any other kind.
Tragedy! Unfortunately I cannot rate zero star. Small, smelly, dirty rooms, with good old fashioned bed. Walls made of paper, ac and wifi? pfy! Just forget about it.... but crème de la crème on the top of the mountain is SHARED with the whole floor bathroom. Mmm walls, tiles, bath, sink and everything is coated with dust, ferry and pubic hairs and smells co ugly like nothing else.... and obviously no toilet paper.... Do i recomend? Yes indeed :)
Avoid. I stayed at the Morningside Inn in early March, having booked through Expedia. The hotel was ok at best, and was served its purpose for one night. That said, to stay any longer would have been testing. My main grief, however, is not my time spent there. Upon returning to the UK, I noticed that id been double charged. I called Expedia, and about a month later, they agreed to refunding me. It has now been three months, and I am yet to receive any refund. The only reason that I stayed in the hotel was because it was cheap, but having paid twice, its not even that!
The elevator never worked when I got their and and house keepers didnt speak english, they also barged in without knocking...and not to mention the foset water smelled funny...the front desk staffs were wonderful though....overall I enjoyed n.y besides the hotel it self.
The guy at the desk was rude, mean and refused to even let me and my mom make other arrangements... he claimed that I didnt have a reservation, even though I called the hotel about a week ago and confirmed my reservation.... I HAVE NEVER BEEN TREATED SO RUDELY IN ALL MY LIFE!!!!
Hotel...? Hmmm.... price was cheap..cant complain about that.... room was tiny...as was bathroom... which was spotless...room itself not so clean..bedding spotless...on last day we noticed blood stains on base of bed...actually looked like someone had bled out...got in touch with Expedia who said morningside inn had sorted this with us... which wasnt true... definitely would not stay here again...will pay for better hotel next time
Aboslutely!!! the worst customer service. Watch out when you reserve because they do not let you go to know that you have to share a bathroom with other guests, and when you go to cancel they charge a one night stay!! like really. Do not stay here it probably looks nice in pictures but it is literally crap
Pros *Nice beds *nice bathrooms *very warm in the winter *good crowd / neighborhood *easy transit to LGA *laundered towels daily Cons *no/little cell signal *wifi was temporarily overloaded *elevator wtf *furniture new but falling apart/not well put together I would come back again as it was a great value and neighborhood.
Please do not stay here please they charged me $380 for 2 night heater doesnt work dresser is broken wont open bathroom worst condition ever and needed new sheets for my bed because it had threw up on it guy couldnt give me one because he said he was alone at night and that he was sorry for heater not even him could make it work

2021-01-15When I stayed here I loved the experience. The building is always clean and comfortable. It is safe and in a great location. The tenants and staff are really lovely. I stayed here for two months and have fond memories of the place. It’s not the Ritz but it is fantastic value for money. There was a gentleman by the name of Patrick who worked there when I stayed and he remains one of my fondest memories of New York City. One of the nicest people in the world.

2019-12-09Private room, comfortable bed. The wifi is good. Great food just around the corner in either direction. The linens seemed clean, but the towels were stained. No toilet paper in any of the restrooms (which are shared) for the first 24 hours. Bring shower shoes if you plan to shower. No desk in the room, or apparently any seating anywhere. When I arrived, there was a gas leak being attended to in the kitchen, and it smelled like gas in the kitchen the next day as well. The doors all slam constantly because they close automatically - this is very disruptive if for example, 4 people check into the room next door at 2am and then all individually use the bathroom over the next hour. Obviously the whole circuit was repeated in the morning.

2019-11-20We spent 3 nights here, never saw anything in our rooms that didnt belong there (per the reviews about bugs and rodents). The neighborhood was quiet, there was a church next door, and the loudest we heard was when Sunday night service was letting out. We had a private bathroom and everything worked as it should with nice hot water for our showers. The bed wasnt a temperpedic, but exactly what SHOULD be expected when you book at the rate they charge. It was centrally located, subways 3 blocks each direction. The staff was friendly and always said hello as we walked by. We checked in late and the guy at the desk, Patrick, set the tone for the great experience we had at this hotel! We are already planning another trip back in the spring and plan on using this hotel again for that visit!

2020-02-14Ive now stayed here three times and can honestly say its better than its low rating suggests. Is it pretty to look at? Not really, its an old budget hotel that provides basic accommodations. If youre used to valet service, a concierge, a pool, and room service, the Morningside might not be for you. But if youre on a budget or just need a clean and safe place to crash after exploring NYC, I recommend this place. The Upper West Side location is awesome, very close to the Metro and bus lines which makes it a breeze navigating to other parts of the city. I would absolutely stay again.

2019-11-10Worst hotel I ever stayed at for this price. I booked a room with a private bathroom, but at check-in they said they are sold out of those and gave me one with a shared bathroom instead. Poor service. The person at the front desk said he cant help me but that I am free to complain or leave. Room was dirty, run down, and in bad need of maintenance. No A/C. A small space heater bolted to the floor was so noisy that I had to turn it off. Toilets dont work well, so disposing of toilet paper in toilet is disallowed (will clog it). Overall, stay away!!

2019-08-11A nightmare of a place! Really not worth the price of a hotel. The rooms super hot (they have a joke of aircon, super noisy) and everything is old and smelly. The personnel always looks annoyed when you ask for help.We arrived after a long trip exhausted just to realise they did not book the bedroom for which we paid. After a good half an hour they gave us the deluxe bedroom as the only free. The bedroom was really dark, placed on the ground floor, the lamps not working and the bathroom very dirty. One day we came back at 4.30 pm to find our bedroom had not been completely changed and we could not use the bed as there were no bed sheet. We had to look for the cleaner and pray her to finish it as she had left the bedroom in that state and just went away. The location is alright, a pity the hotel is so miserable for the poor quality it offers (and the high price they make you pay for it).

2019-11-09The receptionist was rude and not helpful at all. The room was dirty and old, the bed was AWFUL, very uncomfortable and the pillows were worst. The bathroom was okay but the bathroom door didnt work, my boyfriend got locked inside cause the lock didnt work and when I called the receptionist she said oh yes, that always happens, just dont lock it anymore that was her solution, we couldnt lock our door cause they dont want to fix it. We also saw a cockroach in the room that we didnt bother to report after that rude answer. I wouldnt go back, its not even that cheap. The location is the only good thing.

2019-12-06Hostel with shared bathrooms. The linens were clean and the bed mostly comfortable. Temperature is regulated by opening the window. The floor seems unstable in sections. There was no toilet paper provided the first night. Great Thai takeout and bagel shops around the corner. The doors all close on springs, meaning they slam unless stopped and it seems most people dont bother, so its loud. There was some problem with gas leaking in the kitchen when I first arrived, but someone was working on it.

2018-08-13Location is good, the room was super small and kind of dirty but the bed was clean and so were the shared bathrooms. I was there in August so it was really hot. There was an AC that worked but it was as loud as having a helicopter in the room. You can turn it off but youll still hear the noise from the AC from other rooms. If you can sleep in noisy environment than its an OK place to stay for a few nights. Pretty much what one would expect for the low price.
