Hotel Scherman Formerly The Inn in New York
The Townhouse Inn of Chelsea is a wonderful place to stay. Bed is excellent, shower water pressure great, view from 23rd St side is fascinating at every hour (though might be quieter at the back), management and staff are professional and kind. We had an issue with no sittable chair in our room, which they fixed asap. Excellent service! Location is terrific for public transportation and cabs, uptown or down, and close to Trader Joe, Whole Foods, and Eataly. Splendid!
Beautiful, independent family run inn. The building is a lovely 19th century family home that has been converted to cater for guests but still retains the charm and features one would expect of a New York building of that era. Antiques, photos, books and art are abundant and give a quirky eclectic feel. My tip is to stay here and eat out at the amazing array of local eateries.
We had time to buzz up to NYC on a vacation and stayed here. Great location, great staff, great place. It is B&B style so dont expect commercial hotel setting, thats not what you want in this area anyway! Rooms are nice, beds are good, wifi, good size desk, so you can definitely do business here if needed. Perfect spot to hit lots of high lighs in southern Manhattan. Flat Iron is a block away. ESB is just 15 min walk. Great food and drinks very nearby! Breakfast was high quality continental style. Quite pleased with it
A very unassuming NY hotel. What was once a private dwelling has been transformed into a charming and historically characteristic 13 room Inn. The breakfast is uncomplicated fresh and delicious. The charming host makes your stay simply perfect. Wifi is spotty, but to be honest you dont need it. Just sit back in their street view 2nd floor lounge and watch NY pass by.
Terrible customer service. We booked 1 month in advance. They took the money and when we arrived from our flight no one, was available at the hotel to help us get in. Turns out they made a mistake and didnt book our room. Never apologized and told us to go to another hotel because they couldnt help us. Its, an old hotel and over priced.
I really wanted to avoid the massive hotel chains, so i asked for a reservation here 1 month before travelling dates and gave my credit card details. After 10 days i emailed them again to double checked the booking and they told me they were still to do the transaction... they sent me an email 2-3 days later, ON A SATURDAY, saying that the credit card was denied. My bad as i had made other payments in the mean time (I am travelling for 2 weeks around US so flights, other hotels etc), but they did not give me any chance! Banks are shut at weekends and they do not accept debit cards. The next day SUNDAY they send me an email saying that my reservation was cancelled and the hotel was then fully booked!!Leaving me with no reservation 1 week before my trip. Unprofessional to say the least.
If your idea of a minor inconvenience is to have an overflowing toilet pour human waste all over the bathroom this is your kind of place. If you expect to be told to clean it up yourself as there are no staff after eight within a two our journey time this is your kind of place. If youre ok with not seeing a plumber to fix the issue for over 36 hours this is your kind of place.I wont start on the poor service, shabby interior, rubbish air con, misleading advertising.........
Customer Service Fail! The first night our shower was broken. Things happen, we get it. Unfortunately another room wasnt available to change us to that night and no one could fix it that night. Ok, unfortunate but we get it. Night two, we return at 7pm after a long day of work. Apparently a pipe had burst in the building therefore, no running water in the hotel. We understand that too BUT this is now night two of no shower additionally, no running water. We left the hotel that night. We tried to speak to the owner before leaving but he couldnt be reached. We called numerous times the next day and emailed the following week trying to discuss our stay and the charges with someone. NEVER a response. They charged us for our stay and we are now having to go through claims. I am not one to leave reviews but I definitely want to leave a negative one for this hotel.
A Princess & Her Castle: Townhouse Inn of ChelseaWho wouldnt love to stay in a castle that has been converted into a charming boutique inn located in the middle of Manhattan? The Townhouse Inn of Chelsea is a very lovely and unique inn that is beautifully and tastefully decorated in which guests can enjoy a delightful selection of delicious breakfast items every morning (for free); snacks and drinks throughout the day (honor system!); and, evening wine and cheese. Guests need not worry about modern accommodations as they are plentiful including free WiFi, in-room hair dryers and satellite TV. Conveniently located, public transportation is available just steps away from the inns front door. For those who dare to drive into NYC, a public access parking garage is located just up the street. You will definitely want to ask Eric Ord, General Manager, about where to eat as his recommendations were fantastic ... all within walking distance of the inn. And, you are in for a real treat if youre staying at the inn when Sophie and Max are around ... the inns English Bulldogs. They are the raspberries on top of the trifle! I absolutely recommend The Townhouse Inn of Chelsea to those who have never visited NYC, to tri-state area locals who are looking for a weekend getaway as well as those -- like me -- who come into town for business. I will definitely stay here again - Former Jersey Girl Who Used to Work in Manhattan Who Now Lives in St. Petersburg, Florida
No hot water. The manager (Eric?) would answer the phone by just saying this is eric. Not saying the hotel name or anything. A little offputting for a hotel. Also they dont have 24 hour desk which is unusual for NYC. Lastly they didnt offer toiletries like toothpaste.
Our 23 inn to Chelsea was welcomed by the friendly owner Eric, which was a great surprise. The inn is located in a quiet neighbourhood surrounded by small shops and is within easy walking distance of Times Square. This lovely inn is beautifully furnished, the overall atmosphere is very comfortable and the rooms are spacious and beautiful. The delicious breakfast and the friendly staff gave us a great deal of experience. It is a good and affordable place for any visitor to New York. Robert and Sandra.
It is not the first time since my arrival that the hotel level and services are consistently high. You are sure that everything will be as it should be.Great place, great design, friendly staff. Breakfast is not a great choice for breakfast, but there is everything you need. We had dinner for a fee. Every evening you can choose from two versions of dishes, everything is delicious. The room has everything you need. Spacious bathroom.

2018-04-01GREAT location! I really enjoyed it. The staff are great and helpful with lots of suggestions. It was friendly and quiet. I think I was the only person in the hotel with kids but my kids are well-behaved and we loved it. We had a great time. Plus, its proximal to so many fun/cool things to see and do. We really enjoyed our 3 night stay in February and I sincerely hope to come back someday. Its a little homey place to relax in a big city which is perfect for us.

2018-11-13Small and friendly hotel. I mean rely small and really friendly. Wonderful breakfast is served every morning. Great location in Chelsea, although 23rd street isnt the most exciting one. Closer to lots of nice things, though! Lots of traffic on the street at night and thin windows means noise. Bring ear plugs of your not used to it. Apart from that, all was great! Highly recommended for a NY weekend.

2019-05-15We had a wonderful girls trip to the Big Apple and would absolutely stay here again! The staff is probably the crown jewel of this lovely old mansion full of history and warmth. Eric was very helpful with things to do and places to eat.Our room was very clean and spacious even with the comfy double bed and a twin. Breakfast is continental with many organic offerings sourced from Trader Joes or fresh croissants from the bakery across the street. Better than hot breakfasts that sit in warmers for hours. A short few blocks from the Flat Iron Building, the Hi Line and several subway lines. A quieter less touristy side of Manhattan without being too far away to still walk to most major stops on any trip.

2018-10-09The location is perfect! The room we stayed in was not as updated as a similarly priced hotel room and the sink faucet had very low water pressure (just annoying when youre trying to wash the face in the sink). Overall the location is great and clean.

2019-12-17Amazing location. and i actually liked the quaint decorations, plus for NYC the rooms are great size.however, the customer service is appalling. beyond appalling. no big that there is no one who works the front desk. but when i arrived i went to the room to find it was facing 23rd street - heads up if you are, its one of the loudest in NYC. constant honking. i asked to change since there were other rooms which had not been checked into (the keys were out, it was obvious to see this) but was refused. fine, i got ear plugs.however, the 2nd night there the heat in my room didnt work. and i froze the whole night. a NYC winter night without heat with old, thin windows is cold as heck.they did nothing to change this or offer a refund or even say sorry. they just said theyd reboot it but no one else complained... implying it was me... but i asked other guests on the floor, they were also freezing - they just werent the type to tell management.so, super cute place. impossibly rude owners. good price though and great neighborhood.

2015-09-16Sweet little B & B! My room was very cute and surprisingly large (by New York standards). One of the quietest hotels that Ive stayed in and the bed was comfortable - I slept great! Breakfast was simple and ample - toast, yogurt, cereal, fruit and coffee. Ill be back for sure.

2017-12-23The skylight room was gorgeous; shabby chic but tastefully done. The bed was the low point - if you prefer soft beds without any sort of resistance, then youll be in heaven. The staff was phenomenal, and I loved the location. I cant wait to go back.

2018-08-04We reserved a room, paying $465.00 for two nights. Our flight got cancelled and there was NO flexibility in the cancellation. No partial credit, no refund, nothing! Running a business in this industry that forces everyone to be somewhat flexible and not having provisions for our situation is not right. Don’t gamble with your money!

2016-11-29Im staying here for a work trip on the recommendation of a colleague. The highlight of this place is: ITS CLEAN! (My biggest concern when traveling and very pleased to find such a well-kept place to stay). The breakfast area is charming and cozy (I regret I wont get to try it this time- will leave before it starts, so thats for the next review). My main concern walking here was noise on 23rd St, but I find it to be minimal inside the room. It is an old townhouse, so there is some floor noise from upstairs/hallways to be expected. I will return on my next trip.
