I saw Overall rating as 4 and menu prices made me try this place. But the actual prices are higher than prices posted in the menu pictures here. I liked plain dosa but the sambar and chutneys tasted very bad I wouldn’t call them sambar/chutney. I am disappointed with dosa places in Long Island, I will try making at home.
Food portion inadequate and could have been more tasty. Coconut was very very very miniscule portion and tasted .........To owners response - if you have to ask for it- shame on ........ Besides its a constructive criticism to highlight your shortcomings with an advantage for me to compare you with other Dosa places, that you cannot. Food portion IS INADEQUATE and you can definitely do better on taste.
Ordered one Mysore ghee roast dosa and one poori change masala and 2 madras coffees. Sadly disappointed! Ambience is nice.. staff is sweet but the taste of food averageThe coffee tasted sour like the milk was about to spoil. The chanas masala seemed undercookedThe dosa was very amateurWill not be coming back
First time trying authentic Indian food and dosas... what an experience! Food was so flavorful and portions were large. Their soup was my favorite!!! The staff were incredibly nice and accommodating. Owner made us feel so welcomed we would love to come back! Definitely come here!
Very disappointed in House of Dosas that they ONLY accept cash. It’s 2022 and who has cash anymore? Seems like they are doing something shady if they changed to a cash only business. I used to come here all the time but now I will move onto something better. Shame shame.
I have been their loyal customer for past 14 years, used to love there food, service and ambiance but now I am just getting more and more disappointed and annoyed. They are charging top dollars but the service is trash. First no credit cards then no debit cards, only CASH. Now no table service, no waiter, one girl is working if you ask her anything she says NO ENGLISH. No free water. Rude people ,Food is so oily. Seriously.. what’s going on?
ORDERED FIVE DIFFERENT KIND OF DOSAS AND ONE KARI PAKORA. TASTE WAS GOOD. BUT THE DOSAS PACKED IN FOILS WERE LITTLE MESSY. I GUESS IF THOSE DOSAS WERE MADE IN TRADITIONAL STYLE LIKE LONG ONE WITH CRISSPY COVER WOULD HAVE MORE BETTER. SAMBAR WAS HAVING BIG PIECES OF TURNIP, MORE TURNIP THAN OTHER VEGETABLES. I GUESS EQUAL QUANTITY IN SMALL PIECES MUCH BETTER. GOOD LUCK.
If I could give this restaurant more than 5 stars I would. I’ve been eating here for over twenty years. The dosas are absolutely amazing. There are no other dosas that compare and I’ve had many. I’ve never had a meal here that wasn’t perfection. My favorite Indian restaurant.
Absolute rip off. I ordered samosas thinking theyre normal sized samosas. Turns out theyre mini samosas. They should have specified that over the phone. On top of that overcharged for 6 small pieces costing over $8. Go a few blocks down to baadshah grocery store or anywhere else for properly sized, fairly priced samosas. We ordered rasam soup from here before too and it was watered down. Go to dosa world for a flavorful filling rasam soup
First of all whoever gave 1 star is absolutely right. Food quality is mediocre and prices are insane. On top of that I have attached a pictures below for the pricing they have on google and what I was charged for. $14.99 for Chinese dosa? Are you kidding me? Why does your price on google shows $8.99? And when I asked about the difference simple answer was google wasn’t updated. Also, no card CASH ONLY. Dude what’s up with that? And you have the audacity to charge tax if you are asking for cash only? I am so reporting you to town. My advise don’t go there if you really love south Indian food. Sambhar was cold, green chutney was stale. The only good part was red chutney. I would absolutely give you zero if I had the option.
ADDENDUM 4/27/22 - this restaurant stopped serving water with food. If you want to drink water with your meals (a completely normal thing by the way)- you will have to purchase a water bottle.Logic does not make sense. Unsure if this is any sort of violation as I’m no expert.__________________ otherwise….This is THE BEST DOSA SPOT.If one looks on Google maps - you’ll see multiple dosa spots. Stop looking just go here!A great variety of options from dosas to chili paneer. All the food is super flavorful & good portions! It’s cash only.PRO TIP: as someone who loves her curry but doesn’t want to carry it on her clothes, You’ll leave the restaurant smelling like it (avoid by keeping jackets, scarves etc in the car!)
I keep coming back! Favorite place for lunch. Excellent service, high quality food. Reasonably priced. Adjoining store has soaps, incense, perfume, oils, books, clothes, statues, and more.Home made Rasmalai, excellent Sambar, Tali, Dosas, Chai Tea, everything Ive ever tried is incredibly satisfying. There is a reason why people keep returning to a great restaurant like this.
I cant say enough good things about house of dosa. The people are nice, the food is terrific. If you have never had dosa before you might be in for a strange experience because its very different from western cuisine. Dosa are like crepes, some are crispy, some are more doughy. If you like spicy try the malgudi rava masala. If you arent into spicy get a pondicherry dosa. Also, the deserts are all homemade and theyre absolutely out of this world.. Please be aware they are currently only accepting cash, so plan accordingly!
My family and I have been going to this place for the past 10 years now. Last time we were there, the very rude owners sent the server over saying we can not go back to their restaurant again. After confronting the owners they said, it is too much of trouble serving my family because we ask for different things! They also said they don’t care if I write bad reviews. Very disappointed, but hey, this is not the only dosa place! Their quality has downgraded and prices are very high. Such food can not be so expansive.
Definitely my favorite restaurant to go to for dosas. It’s always very flavorful and cooked to perfection. I can always guarantee leaving happy. I also appreciate the little shop that’s connected to the restaurant, it’s a good distraction is case there’s a busy weekend wait.
Have been going to this restaurant for the past 18 years and forgot to leave an extra $10 tip the last time I dined there and was going to pay on my trip there today. The owner comes out in front of my family after setting us and goes “we cannot serve you”. He spoke to us in such a was degrading and disrespectful manner, what terrible customer service over $10 that we were going to pay anyhow. The fact he even needed to say that? We were going to pay right away he did not even give us the chance to do that because right away told us we could not be served. AWFUL CUSTOMER SERVICE!!! Absolutely Would not recommend to go to this restaurant to anyone because of how terrible this experience and customer service was and particularly the owner is full of himself and thinks he can talk in any way he wants to to his customers.
I was a long time customer at this place. I love the taste but the owner is a rude man. He used to accept credit cards like a year back and then I was surprised it said cash only about a month ago. After making inquiries I heard that one customer charged back as owner was rude. Therefore since customer won the dispute he stopped accepting credit cards . He probably doesnt understand that customer service is supreme in USA and uses his srilankan mentality here which fails in the long run. He lost a faithful customer as he said I will ban you if you speak to a neighboring Indian customer who is dining at the same restaurant. Are we not supposed to talk to our neighbors while dining here? Should we be banned if we continued speaking to a neighbor.? This is a loosing battle he doesnt realize. Good luck to him!
We have been going to this restaurant for the last 21 years. Typically we pickup a thali once every week. In all this time we have never had a disappointment. The food is always fresh and amazing. We travel a lot and we have not found better south indian vegetarian food in US. I personally believe that they deserve a michelin star for the innovation that goes in their thali alone.
House of Dosas is a shining light of authenticity. The food here is nothing short of incredible. Everything is jam packed with flavor and cooked to perfection. The service can be a little slow at times, but the food is certainly worth the wait. If you are in Hicksville for any given amount of time, stop by, its worth it.
Anyone who has rated this place one star is 100% right. All of them say that the owner is extremely disrespectful. Definitely true. The quality of food is mediocre and the prices are lucrative. It used to be good food here. Found a bug in food and brought it to owner’s attention. Drove us out during the busiest hours at the restaurant instead of owning up to his mistake. Owner has ego problems and other reviews say the same. This restaurant only accepts cash too as of the time of this review, not very convenient for most people.
The food was really really great. But apart from that, everything was terrible. There service was slow, long wait to get seated, the food was served cold, very small portion sizes and the decor and furniture looked cheap and tacky.Only go here if youre really craving good dosa - the malgudi dosa and onion masala dosa were especially great. The medhu vada too, other dosas and idlis were okay.
They have delicious and authentic South Indian food. Its all vegetarian. Dosa, idli, vada, sambar, and coconut chutney are all great. Madras coffee is an excellent sweet end to your meal. The prices are quite reasonable for a good portion size. The ambiance is nice. They have nice and clean bathrooms. Theres a parking lot in the back. They take cash only.
I dont like writing bad reviews but I was upset to see that now you only accept cash. I will just say that I understand that it costs money to accept credit/debit cards and digital currency but it is the way of the future. Try to reconsider as you will loose customers who have come to expect digital payments. What I am more upset is that you do not offer free water and you have to purchase a bottle of water. That is just ridiculous and wrong!I really love the food, though, and hope you reconsider your practices.
Had the worst experience of my life. We had a small bag of fries from McDonalds for the 3 yrs old baby and he asked us to leave because of that. There is a polite way of asking but he threatened that there was a big fight over outside food last week. Owner needs to learn manners.
The food was really bad. We ordered idli and vada, it felt that it was made in advance and just warmed up and served to us. The sambar was equally bad. Had worst experience, never going there again. I think the management has changed and the quality has degraded because of that.
Food was not so great. Ordered roti and curry. Looking at the roti I wasn’t feeling like eating the food. They warmed up frozen roti but that too was not cooked and was quite old. Sabji was neither great taste wise nor it was sufficient even for one person considering the quantity and price. On the top of all this the most important thing is it’s a Cash Only restaurant. In fact they have their own ATM inside the restaurant itself. I’m sure they r saving a lot of taxes. Wouldn’t recommend House of dosas to any of my friends or family.
Used to be my favorite restaurant. However now the prices have gone up and the quality has gone way down. It’s not the same taste that it used to be. Definitely try their best to give you as less filling as possible when before that wasn’t that case. Will definitely try finding a different place to go to. Such a disappointment that the food isn’t the same as it used to me. Also one of their chutneys, the orangish one, that also doesn’t taste the same. Need to find a new dosa place
Terrible service. They gave me less samber, the dosa barely had any filling and when I complained hoping they would fix my order they brushed me off like nothing was wrong. I asked to speak to the manager but they denied me. The person who was very rude his name was Jay T. Don’t waste your money here horrible store.
My family got bunch of lassis from them. The lassis were all watery and didn’t taste good at all. We went to return it but they refused to return it and told us that this is how the lassi is and maybe you have never had it before. I am a big of this place but their arrogance will not bring me back here.
I went with my husband on a labor day weekend-last week for a quick Lunch. What a wonderful place! This is a very clean & good ambiance vegetarian place I ever been to. The manager & staffs were friendly and attentive . we had great experience & highly recommend this amazing place. The portions were large & we wound up having a 3-course meal and took the leftovers home :-).Shiyama
I found a hair in the food🤢 so be careful guys. I told the owner but he start arguments was very disrespectful. Yes everyone’s right he has no respect how to talk customers. They can’t handle to many orders. So I left the place right away. Would not ever go there again..
Theyre service is horrible. They do not know how to even speak to customers. You would expect that during these unprecedented situations these people would be sincere but they do not even follow covid protocols. They dont have a cleanliness environment. Not only their service but theyre food is not fresh. We had ordered the dosas and the bhel puri chaat. The chaat was stale and tasted old. Not only that but there was dirt on their glasses as if they werent washed properly. Despite telling the employee, a women whose name started with an S, she was not even courteous and still made us pay our entire bill and said until I found a hair in the food there was nothing she could do. Which was astonishing because she was telling me that it has happened before. The manager did not even speak English and was not even understanding what we were saying. It was a terrible experience will never be coming back and will advise everyone I know not to go to House of Dosa in Hicksville. Horrible Experience.
The food has gone down at this place, we have been regulars at this restaurant for the last 15 years and the quality has deteriorated. We were there last week and the dosa was burnt, sambhar was tasteless and the owner didn’t even care when we brought it to their notice. Would not recommend eating there at all!!!
The service was so bad. The manager came to our table to tell us to put our water away very rudely. The waitress didn’t really help with letting us know about the food, the prices are high and quality of food is low. I would recommend people to stay hungry and go elsewhere than eat their food
ONLY WAITER WITH GLASSES WAS SO DISRESPECTFUL!! My family and I were dinning here and we ordered ONE appetizer after 15 minutes of our food coming out and disrespectfully he snapped saying “why didn’t you tell me this before when I first asked you. I have ten people waiting”. I shouldn’t be told how much to eat. If I’m paying I should be able to get what I want. We dined for less than an hour. Never coming back AGAIN!
Excellent doses and Indian food. I have eated at dozens of restaurants of all sizes and varieties. The food did take long to come out on a day that wasnt busy but it was well worth the wait. Portions were good, the flavor of food was authentic and it was not too oily. I enjoyed my dosa and the food I ordered. This Id a vegetarian only restaurant and there are many options, which is something vegetarians have a hard time finding. I will definitely become a regular here.
Hands down the best dosa place Ive ever been to. The family that owns this establishment are so kind and helpful. When one of the owners realized I was vegan she gave great recommendations, which is super comforting for someone who usually worries about dietary restrictions. The little boutique connected to the restaurant has so many beautiful trinkets and clothes. They sell tons of incenses, soaps, and tapestries. I love House of Dosas, so so much!
This food is SO SO good and the staff are so friendly. I’m not familiar with Indian food but they explained the whole menu to us. They even sent out some apps for free for us just to try to see how we liked them. I live 1.5 from here but I try to go every time I pass by.
The owner is rude and racist. He clearly treats white American customers differently. He was loud , argumentative and difficult even while we were just trying to order food. We had the worst dining experience and should not even get one star. We would not recommend any of our family or friends to go there.
I love the good here, its really tasty, and a pretty healthy place to eat. The staff is friendly, and have a good knowledge of the items on the menu. Parking is sometimes an issue, but most of the time, you can just park around the side of the building. I recommend the gunpowder dosas if you like something spicy
Amazing Indian restaurant. Food was spicy hot fresh and delicious. The dosa I ordered was of perfect taste. Owner of the place was friendly and helpful. Service was nice and place was clean. I will come back with my family. Overall it was a great experience of having Indian food for the first time. Surely I will be back again.
If you are a first timer, let me warn you! Your taste buds will be so mad at you, for depriving them of such delicious, authentic South Indian cuisine, for so long! Even for those from India, for whom such food maybe common, will love the perfect crispy dosas and such yummy sambhar and chtuneys. All this freshly prepared in a clean kitchen environment (yes have seen the kitchen long time ago, and it was impeccable). The only downside I see here, is that the dishes have gone pricer, over the years. But hey, for a speciality cuisine, its well worth it!
We use to go to this place for 10 years but not anymore. They have lost their touch. Waiters and staff rush you to order your main course. They want you to get out of there so they can fill more seats. Small portions, too much oil and spicy. Owner is rude and doesnt know what customer service is all about and the bad behavior trickles down to the staff.
The place serves South Indian cuisine. The restaurant is usually quite crowded. We have frequented this place since it started as Dosa Hut and then grew and became the House of Dosas. The owner, Jai, is very nice, friendly and courteous. But the food is not the best and the prices are on the higher side. Some things are excellent while some are not. There are other restaurants in the Hicksville area where the food quality is better and prices are lower.
The absolute worst place I’ve ever been to. I went there with my family and the food was garbage. There is no flavor to anything even the coffee we bought was bad. How bad do you have to be to mess coffee up?. We’ve been having stomach problems ever since we’ve been there. 0/10 would not recommend going there. The stuff we bought wasMasala dosas (tasted old and it doesn’t even slightly taste like actual South Indian dosas$Cheese Pondicherry dosasCoffee (the coffee was very bitter and it tasted like microwaved coffee)Mango lassi
Have been coming to this restaurant from past 20years ordered Dosa which tasted ok and pooree chana which tasted so bad and when I told them it doesn’t taste good I was told that chef has not been changed from 20 years owner said that she’s not our slave and does not have to come to our table again and againToday was the worse experience I am very sad that the place I have been going from 20 yes would treat me like this The owner has no customer appreciation.... am done!!
Rudest owner and staff! Worst service I ever experienced! This place used to be good, the food is okay and customer service has gone down the drain.I have been to the restaurant for sit down dining for several years, today was my first take out. I had ordered four dishes over the phone. When I got to the restaurant, they charged my card as I was waiting for my food. I requested the lady for extra chutneys (coconut sauce) as I was given two with 4 orders. The restaurant was super busy and she was in a rush to charge my card again and I asked what am i being charged for - She said $8 for chutneys! These chutneys are not charged at the restaurant if you are eating there. Since I did not know there was an additional charge, I told her I should have been informed out of courtesy.- Her response to me was what do you think this for free in the most disrespectful tone. Then the owner screamed at me in front of all the people there and he was extremely obnoxious along with the woman. The point is if there is discrepancy you should know how to handle and you dont disrespect and scream at the customer in front of other people. I have never been treated like this ever before!!I paid for my food and chutneys and I will never go back to this restaurant for customer service. Its not just about the food, its about the whole experience and these guys ruined it for me!
A local favorite. Fresh food reasonable prices. Excellent service! Quality preparation and flavor. Always something new if you get Tali! Highly recommended, its a mix of all great foods.Dessert is not to be missed , ever! Rasmalai is always light house made. Lychee shake has pieces of real Lychee! Tea is wonderful , flavors abound! I return multiple time a week. Its like home away from home.Staff is more than friendly, theyre like family.
Amazing Dosas and other vegetarian South Indian dishes. Brought my family here and they all loved it. Reminded us of back home. The food is delicious and very nicely priced! Try everything!! From Idli to pakoras to even one of the best Bhel Puris Ive ever had. Food and service is always great over here. One of my top three Indian Restaurants on Long Island.
The most awful restaurant Ive ordered from this being my first and will be my last time. The prices on the menu are literally half of what they actually charge. When I got my order the entire amount was doubled - this is terrible! The food is too flat even when spicy, the price you pay for one order of rice is ridiculous for the amount they give. The complimentary roti is in such bad shape youd be better off with store bought pita wraps. They hand you trash and over charge. I mean its my no meat day and I thought of trying somewhere new. Im happy I learned my lesson - if I could have given -1 star I would have. Never again!!!
Nice place. I was surprised when I first saw the dosas because they are the size of a rolled up newspaper - kinda funny really. Definitely worth a try. Alcohol free and unfortunately you cant bring your own (there multiple signs prohibiting it) - I enjoy a cold beer with spicy food so that will keep me from going back but if you are ok with that it is definitely worth a try.
We had dinner here last night. It has been one of our more favored places to eat at. My favorite is the Rasam and my sister in law loves the Spinach Salad. The dosas are as good as one would expect from a place named after the famous crepe. The reason for the three stars is the increased prices for reduced portions, especially the dessert portions. Our standard order is the Almond Halwa, Delicious stuff, but you get no more than a generous 4 teaspoons for a hefty price of 6.95. I ordered the lychees with mango ice cream. I have NEVER seen a smaller scoop of ice cream - again for the handsome price of 6.95. The portions are definitely cause for concern. You leave feeling a little ripped off.
I have eaten at this vegetarian Indian restaurant many times. I always thought it was really good, until the last time I ate here. It was about two weeks ago, in late February 2014. It was terrible. Maybe due to the fact that the restaurant was extremely busy. I sat down to order my food. Before I could even read the menu, I had three waiters asking me, why wasnt I ordering food. After I ordered, the waiter disappeared for a good 45 minutes. As soon as the food was placed on the table, two waiters came by to ask if I wanted to wrap up my food. I just got my food after waiting 45 minutes for it, I was not about to leave. Then the bill was slapped down on the table, while I was still eating. Horrible. The service was the worse. I was not happy. They accept cash only. I do not plan on going back there any time soon. Plus there are about 5 other good restaurants within a 3 block area. Prices are expensive.
Hands down, THE BEST DOSA place in NY that I have found, and believe me I have looked for other contenders in/near the city area where I now live, but House of Dosas beats them all!! So I make it a point to stop and eat whenever Im passing through the Hicksville area, and will be back at the end of the month for my birthday dinner with some friends who love it as much as I do!! 😍🙏
Delicious. Ate the pakora appetizers which was fantastic along with the lunch special which for the price was great. Three of the assortment of seven I didnt eat either because of the taste or dairy which I asked to not have. Otherwise the service was prompt and friendly. Will return. PS. They now accept MC and Visa.
One of my favorite restaurants on Long Island. Its a place for really delicious, affordable food whether youre just looking for great Indian food in general, or great Indian food that is vegan! They serve everything from dosas (obviously), to curries to other creative options. The restaurant is vegetarian, not vegan, but its really easy to find all kinds of awesome, entirely vegan food on the menu. Jay, the owner, has been serving vegetarian food here for decades... long before other plant-based options existed on LI. So if you havent put this place into your favorites on your maps or GPS, Id suggest doing that!
Probably the best South Indian restaurant in Hicksville. I have been to the neighboring restaurants serving South Indian food but the taste, ambience and music at this place is the best. Will certainly go back when Im in the area and feel like eating South Indian food. Sambhar is a very important criteria for a good South Indian restaurant and this place certainly had a good one. Dosa batter was fresh and staff was friendly.
It used to be great place but looks like that owner and staff has developed some arrogance and disrespect towards the customers. We had to walk out because he could not really understand and then offended religious beliefs. Very likely we will not be going there again after this. There are many better choices closeby. I hope food quality stays okay.
About as close as youll get to good authentic Indian food in the area, unless youre willing to cook it yourself. Its vegetarian for those who are looking, but definitely not vegan. And they have options that are more mild like the masala dosa, and ones hit higher on the spice and heat meter.
Nice place for south indian food. Place is small, so it gets crowed in evenings. Parking could be issue. There is street parking and some additional parking in the back. Overall good place to enjoy south indian food. If you are large group, be ready to wait for some time. Lots of Dosa options at reasonable price.
Everybody, please remember that this is a tiny restaurant. The waiters are on the ball and are always working hard to seat your party. If you think the service is lacking, you are wrong.I adore spicy food. It hates me. I love that HOD will make my dish mild. Thank you, HOD.This is the place to go for dosas.
Today people were waiting at the House of Dosas while the tables were empty. I asked with utmost curtesy as to why people are not being seated and the manager started screaming. In the end he said they dont want to serve us. Not easy to handle success but always remember that you are successful because of your customers! Shame on the management of Dosa Hut!
I have been coming to HOD for 7 years and have had consistent, polite service and amazing food every time. I asked the owner what his secrete was. He told me , we make everything fresh the day of. Nothing stays over night. All the coconut flavor in coconut rice is hand shredded coconut,, all the potatoes and sauces prepared daily.I mean, i can see when they get busy things take longer but time is what is needed for really fresh food.I enjoy my experience every time I go. 5 stars for me!My favoritesCoconut ricePaneer dosa spicyRava dosa (onions)“Almond dessert” a la mode forgot name but it’s delicious!Oh! Mango lassi and their coffee (Mumbai ?)
The owner of the restaurant said we cannot bring outside food for my 8 month old baby cousin. I could understand if they provide baby food that I can order from here but I do not appreciate the owner, none the less, of this restaurant basically telling me I cannot feed my cousin unless it’s something from their menu.
Seriously the best food on Long Island, I dont mean the best Indian food, I mean the best food, period. The staff is courteous, but not overly pushy or annoyingly friendly and the prices are extremely fair. I highly recommend the chetty pondicherry dosa and a mango lassi. You absolutely must try this place!
I had my worst ever experience yesterday when my family and i went to the house of dosas in Hicksville NY for lunch. We requested water which we got after 20 minutes and 5 reminders. The water was very warm and when we complained about it,the server who i presume was the owner(as any employee wil not dare to behave like that)started shouting on us and told us to get out of there. We have never seen such rude behavior in our life.We naturaly left and were sorry,we ever went there.
With thali, they gave like 1 gm of pickle and i asked more. Later i saw a charge for pickle. Never experience such charge in my life. Unlike Saravana, who gives extra curry in thali, these guys charged for everything. No dal in thali too. They charged for rasam but never delivered. We caught it in the bill. Very bad.
This is the place I learned Dosas can taste good. No, really. If you lost hope in your dosa needs, come by, they are really good here.So lets start off with the interior. The inside of this place is very nice, well-lit environment and a lot of items placed around the restaurant that give it a Indian culture feel. The food.We ordered Vada, Masala Dosa, Cheese Sada Dosa, some mango lassi, and this almond dessert.I have to say, Dosas here really puts all the other Indian food joints to shame. The Dosas are very well made, cooked to the point where its nice hot and slightly crispy without burning it. The Mango lassi is tasty and sweet, but not sweet like a pack of sugar, which is good, and doesnt taste like watered down stuff from a can.The dessert, Im not sure what it is called, but it is extremely tasty, Ill have to ask for that again next.Service was great, quick, and to be honest, really good. I didnt have trouble order from a foreign menu, nor did I have to wait for the waiter to know when I was ready.House of Dosas is really one of the best vegetarian Dosa places in Long Island. If youre in Hicksville, take the opportunity to swing by, grab a bite, and forever change your Dosa standards. Maybe, maybe not.
Great place for dosas. I love going there and the only reason I give it 4 stars is that there is no consistency for serving my favorite Malgudi Rava Masala. When it is burnt you are told that this is how they come out and that is it. That kills the taste and the pleasure.
Used to be our favorite place to go out. We had been going for 4 years almost weekly, with great food and service. The last time we went with friends that have also been going for years. The children have sever nut allergies. They ordered a plain dosa and it came out with the potato filling. Our friends returned it and the same dosa came out with the filling scraped out. Thats not acceptable for people with nut allergies. Some Hindi words were exchanged and the owner basically refused to service our friends. They even started to take away food my son was eating. The children were crying because the owner was yelling at their grandfather. The owner flipped when the grandfather told him that he would have to call an ambulance if the children ate the unclean dosa.Love the food, but we havent gone back there since the incident. They have to get with the times and treat customers with more respect. Doesnt matter if their dosa is the best. Ill settle for 2nd best just fine.
Went to eat at this place for the first time.. very disappointing. Their service is very slow, the staff is very rude. After being seated it took a good ten minutes before they gave us the menus, they weren’t even busy. They attended someone else who came after us but not our table. After finally being served they did not come back to the table to check on us. I guess they don’t care about the service because gratuity is included in the bill so who cares. They don’t even deserve 1 star
One of the most favorite places for my husband and me to hog on some south indian food. The food seems much more authentic than the chain based restaurants. My favorite dish in this place is the chetti pondicherry dosa and then a hot cup of filter coffee . My husband loves the podi idli here. I recently tried the veg korma with Kerala parantha which turned out to be pretty awesome as well. If you are in Long island and looking for an awesome meal - this is your go-to place .
Ordered for a pick up... Online website menu and google menu showed only 7$ but when i went for pick up they charged me 9.5$ for the food and they juistified it by saying theitr actual prices are on FB page and they are working on updating their online menu prices. That was not my problem in the first place.Food was also salty.. This is just my first experience here.
Ridiculous service, they charge extra for chutney and sambhar, everywhere u go it comes free, when we told its our first time and we assume its for free he shows us the menu, bloody rude staff, pathetic service. Dont come here its a loot. Go to other dosa place which are 2,3 mins away which has nice better dosa.

2022-06-04Disappointed .... Used to be one of the best places to go for south Indian food but they seem to have lost their roots with an upgrade to the decor. You now have to go to the counter to place your own order as no table service is provided. Water is placed outside the eating area close to the front door, so you either have to walk past everyone & go get your own water. I guess the feel like they need to sell more bottled Poland springs.Food tasted sour or burnt. Maybe will try again in a few months and give them another shot.

2021-08-15Authentic #southindian treat. It was so delicious and the waiter was also very polite. Tried, idli bada, dahibada, salted lassi and my fav: carrot halwa with vanilla icecream.

2021-09-29Google has their menu published with completely different prices, so please refer to their website for current price. The dosa is listed for $8.95 and the gazar halwa for $4. When I called and placed the order they stated the price is $12.95 for dosa and $7.95 for the halwa. This was a huge price difference but I was hungry so I agreed making the total $22.26. When I got the food home, behold my amazement when I opened the halwa box because I thought it to be one of the chutney. I mean it was so less not even making it two spoons. I have added pic for reference and the M&Ms packet is not from them. I called the establishment to confirm in case of a mixup and they casually admitted that was their quantity. I never ever had a quantity problem with any food item before no matter what I ordered from any place. The dosa was good, the two chutneys coconut and the orange one both were good. The masala stuffing was decent and I am like, so the food is good so far. I eat a spoonful of sambhar and it is horrible, not bland or too spicy but horrible. The usual problem I face with sambhars are that they are bland but this one was just inedible. I ate the dosa with the masala and left the sambhar untouched and dumped it. I hate throwing food but I was not eating it. I added the pic after I ate to show how I finished everything but the sambhar. The one spoonful of $8 gazar halwa that I tried last was only ok as it was just sugary, not at all creamy and definitely not decadent or out of the world that I was expecting. It is ok to charge higher price if the menu or the experience is extra but the only thing extra is their pricing and the weird price to quantity ratio for the desert. Never going back for sure coz no matter how much I paid, I did not get good food overall

2022-04-11Hate to give a one star, to a place that used to be phenomenal, however service as of late has tanked and I truly hope changes can be made to restore the place. The place has a new strategy where servers are now removed and no longer is water(tap offered) for free. This alone seems a bit unfair given that most customers order drinks as is and water should be free (as it was prior to this new change).Outside the lack of service which is a strategy change, the food for the first time completely missed its mark. The food felt stale, and not to the standard they used to have. We ordered 4 apps and 1 main course and felt everything missed its mark to the extent that we question that this was once our favorite spot. The only good thing was the Mango Lassi.Either under the guise of COVID or managements strategy to just do things that dont work it seems the place we loved has gone down hill. Cash only was a setback but one we were used to but with service dropping and food being blah and having to pay for water it just seems that price hiked alone werent the answer but a whole rework which is clearly not working.

2022-04-14I have never been to a more ridiculous place. They charge tax on their food, but they don’t take credit cards.. and on top of that water isn’t complimentary. You have to pay extra for water. You can go to any establishment in this country, and you can water for free since it is a necessity. But instead here, it’s an extra $2.

2022-05-09Added reply to the owner’s reply at the end. Very bad experience. No organized. I waited for 45 minutes with my 82 years old mother and the man taking people came after us. No seat was available for my mom to sit. I pointed out at the reception desk and the guy remained quiet. Did not show any concerns. I notify the lady that this man at the door putting other people who came after us but no one took any initiative. The man was very rude when I asked several times why he is taking other people who came after us he was very rude every time. Finally I left. Never ever go back again. Management before them was very good. Staff was polite and well behave and properly dressed up. But now it’s ugly. The man at the door wearing dirty clothes and looked like just came out of bed. Shirt was hanging out and had sleepers. Also they only take cash. Looks like doing tax fraud. No water service. People were given disposable glasses and water was at the door where other crowd was waiting and no space for customer to reach out to water. Why they do not accept credit cards I need to find out and inform the IRS dept. And also making complaint to government. It does not look hygienic the way it used to be with past management. They are charging high price with tax and only cash. I am adding my reply to owner who replied my review. It’s a complete lie that I yelled at 84 years old man. That a complete lie. When no one showed concerns I left. Wow for 10 minutes I yelled. Lol. Do you think you will be able to run your business like that. I have never seen a restaurant payment option only cash. I am also going to my friend circle to stop going. Today you did not lose one customer, you lost at least your 50 regular customers. I have already informed my families and friends. Good luck to you to save your business.

2022-04-17Absolute horrible experience!!! They don’t accept credit/debit cards. They have posters everywhere for Cash only. I did not have enough cash on me and when I asked that why they don’t accept cards they got annoyed and said it charges them extra bucks and they had ATM inside of the restaurant and asked me to get cash from there, I told them that is absolutely wrong the customer has to pay extra fee to get cash out of the ATM and they just ignored me and started speaking to another customer. The food was also not good, it was not at all worth it. Would never recommend this place, the staff is horrible!!! I asked for extra chutney and the hostess did not get any for me unless I went to ask the owner and she gave her the permission to. 0/5 if I could!
