Great location off the tourist side. My wife and I went to our daughters apartment to shower and change hoping we would return with a hu***e room. Service in the hotel was pleasant and unpretentious. I would say this is a great place to stay if you can find a good rate for it is pricey.
Treat yourself to this exquisite smaller highly personalized hotel in the French fashion. Everyone was so helpful and the accommodations were exactly what we needed for a weekend in the city. I got a fairly decent rate (for New York) for the room. How can a business hotel not have a secure connection.
I have seen pictures of the really beautiful rooms with deluxe terraces but the more regular rooms suit me fine. I asked bell about this when being escorted to and touring the room and was assured that it would not be noisy. Highly recommended for an upper east side stay in NYC.
I had an accident in the hotel spa that caused injuries to both hands. The hotel has refused to address my medical expenses. They have hung up on me numerous times and refuse to give me the email address of their general manger. I am disgusted with this place. Do not stay here if you value your physical well-being.
I stayed here for two nights and my experience was not pleasant. This hotel should really be a 3-star hotel. I would never return.1. Shower water at its warmest is lukewarm.2. Facilities inside and outside of the room are very outdated and need serious renovations.3. No free water in the room. One bottled water in the room costs $14 but would cost only $4 at Duane Reade just 5 min walk away.4. No coffee machine in the room.5. No water and wine glasses in the room.6. During my stay, the WiFi was down for over 3 hours.7. They had breakfast pre-order menu in the room that says I need to hang it at the door nob by 2am to get room service for breakfast next morning. I checked my choices on the menu and hang it at the nob at 1am. But next morning at my specified time, no food was delivered. I opened the door, only to see that they didnt collect my menu.8. The hotels restaurants have overpriced and so-so food for both breakfast and lunch.9. The guy who accompanied us to the room when we checked in had bad manners that made us uncomfortable. He had a condescending attitude. The way he introduced the hotel amenities gave us the impression that our arrival at his property was not really welcomed. Plus, he stayed in our room for longer than he should, clearly in an attempt to get some tips from us. Nope. You didnt let us feel welcome and we didnt have any luggage that you helped us with. No tips!
Great location close to central park. The room was of ok size for New York and comfortable. I was in the city on business and found my stay to be perfect. The staff is friendly and kind. The team was not able to retrieve a clothing item that was left behind in the room.
Im a bit of a Plaza boy, myself. I havent even been here but I can assure you its much better than Trump Plaza. One of their desk clerks called into my business to ask us questions about what we offer for a guest that was staying at their plaza. That is so cool. The staff is so friendly that they are willing to save your lazy bones the time and effort to call a business nearby for you, ask them your questions, and still be cheerful on the phone. 5 stars.
Located on what is in my opinion of the top prime location of Manhattan, this old hotel still deliver a luxury experience to its guests, mad of consistency and attentions.Rooms are large for Manhattan standard and ambience is very relaxing. The bathroom, despite the ages, still keep the place, are in excellent conditions and the pressure of the shower is one of the best in the city. The service is at the maximum level, and for who needs to work, wifi all over the structure is offered with a solid connection.Gym is fine, with the last updates machines.Breakfast instead, despite the excellent service its pretty poor and over expensive.105$ for 2 coffe and 2 Benedict eggs (very poorly served) its simply offensive as on other top hotel for the same rate you get a completely different experience.Overall Its one of the very few hotel of Manhattan were you really get what you pay for (Breakfast excluded).
The hotel seems upscale but has some simplistic elements to it. The rooms are comfortable but not necessarily worth the rates. Theres only one restaurant in the space which is pricey so bring your own water bottles and snacks, or prepare to go outside the hotel for anything.
I have stayed here on several occasions, as I am in NYC quite a bit. Everyone from the doormen to housekeeping, is first rate. I love this hotel and will always choose it before any other. Its it well worth the price, easy to get to, easy to get a taxi or uber. Love the Hotel Plaza Athenee !!
Best hotel Ive stayed in. Perfectly appointed room with a bedside Bose. The room and bathroom feels like a guest room in a European palace (a real, lived-in, functioning, contemporary one.) The staff is awesome, especially the kitchen crew. F/B is flawless - morning papercup coffee with muffin for a stroll in Central Park. This is the place to stay when doing Christmas shopping in New York. Five full stars for not knowing how to say no. Will be back ASAP.
Daniel restruant expensive but fair for excellent 4 course dinner. Only downside is the 100$ per person on a credit card to make a reservation. After dinner and bill comes amount of tip and share if splitting hard to compute(after several bottles of great wine). Restaurant should go to no tipping as a solution.
Decor is more old-fashioned and I believe there is some renovation on the way. The service was excellent. I especially enjoy the fitness breakfast with yogurt, berries, granola and gold leaf. We would not hesitate to stay at the Plaza Athenee on our next weekend in New York City.
Underwhelming experience for a 5 star hotel in NYC. Great location - but rooms are totally outdated. Moldy smell, air condition in the room makes the noise of a 747 taking off at JFK. Room service waiter woke me up at 11.15p mixing up room numbers - but that was probably a one time event as service is supposed to be good. Outrageous pricing for mini bar items - bottle of water USD 13 plus tax and 5 mini Twix for USD 16... even as a 5 star property this seems to me like taking advantage. No free water in the room but check-in staff was kind enough to offer. Careful - if you hope for LHW loyalty benefits - you only get it if booked through their website. Summing up - plenty of better choices in NYC. It was a one time try for me - looking forward to checking back in at the St. Regis tonight where rooms are much nicer and you get all the SPG benefits.
WORST customer service ever. We were going to stay in this hotel, and had a issue with our reservation. I called several times to speak with the director of revenue. Obviously this person never called back nor adressed our concerns. We spent 800 dollars for one night on that hotel and they did not even have the decency to call us.
Can‘t believe they dare to aks for the rates as they do. Old rooms that would really need an update - noisy AC, poorly isolated windows, no slippers, no conplimentary water. But, the worst is the snobby attitude of the staff. Too many people standing around opening doors - but easy things, like providing the right paper in the morning? Doesn‘t work. Neither do the key cards. But they blame you for it. Concierge Jonathan is the snobbiest unfriendliest concierge I‘ve ever laid eyes on. No smile, just attitude. Never expierenced rude staff like that. At a place like that!!!
The staff is not as welcoming as you would expect for this name , the breakfast was not good at all, even the basic details such as the cheapest jams , bad quality tea , burned toast , over boiled eggs , cheap sausages etc can spoil your day .Rooms are decent , some baths need an upgrade . Glad they reduced the prices as last year they was overpriced.
Deceptive practice: I made a reservation at the Plaza Athenee with free cancellation through Expedia (see screen shot). When the confirmation came, there was no free cancellation. I called right away but Expedia said there was nothing they could do and the hotel would have to release the funds. When I finally spoke to the general manager after several unreturned phone calls to the hotel, he (David Cohen?) was extremely rude, blamed Expedia, and refused to release the funds or to help me resolve the issue. When I pointed out that he had contracted with Expedia and shared responsibility for the deceptive screen shot, he said he could not refund the money because the hotel needed it and he would have to do it for everyone. I would not trust Plaza Athenee to deliver on anything they promise after this experience.
Our company owner and his fiance stayed for long term at the plaza Athenee Newyork. Unfortunately During her stay, two items were stolen from her room in her absence where it was placed in the drawer. She had notified the staff promptly of the theft and have also reported to the New York City Police Department. The hotel did not do anything to solve this case. Finally, from her conversations with hotel employees; this is not the 1st theft in this hotel; She understand that on several other occasions cash & valuables have been stolen from other hotel guests at Hotel Plaza Athenee New York, especially on 9th floor. So it is obvious who is responsible from those several thefts and hotel is covering the person. Still no news from the hotel.

Decadence avec elegance. It was already a great hotel, certainly a 5 star, but nowadays it is well outdated. The location is great and the staff is quite attentive and efficient. While the room is quite spacious, the bathroom is tight and old-fashioned. The whole hotel has that 1970s look, elegant but looking decadent ... I think its still worth the stay, but I prefer the more modern hotels ...
Cozy and charming hotel in a great location near Central Park, Madison and 5th Ave. Rooms were a bit old, but well maintained and clean. The bed was very comfortable and the room for NYC ratios rather big. The bathroom and shower were very clean and tidy.Staff very friendly and helpful.I am happy to come back.
I have been to the beautiful New York Plaza Athenee Hotel several times and I still find it so beautiful. The rooms are magical, the service is impeccable and the location is ideal. This magnificent luxury hotel has all the charm and beauty of New York. Thank you very much for this sumptuous stay. Yours truly.

2019-11-18What a truly lousy experience. Forced us to wait until 4:30pm to check in. Lousy room, hotel offered to clear out our minibar in order to accommodate our child’s food/drinks, all they did was take everything out and stick it on the counter. To top it all off, they stuck us with some random $16 charge and are still refusing to call us back. Much better options at this price point. I guess this is what happens when you stay in a trophy asset of a two bit dictator.

2018-07-17Ive been coming here for 20 years and its sad to say but its showing its age and not too well. The service has always been impeccable but this time it was average at best. Even the courtesy of asking how you enjoyed your stay was replaced with heres your bill. The curtains in my room were ragged and torn, the bar has gone from being active and vibrant to dull and dreary. And to add insult to injury the day before I arrived I saw on their website a special price of $250 for the night but because I made the reservation by phone I had to pay $420. Ill be back in the city again next month but at a different hotel.

2019-11-15This is my second time staying in this five-star hotel. The first time was flawless. The second time was flawed. Highly flawed. We arrived around around 12:30 pm and rooms were not ready. No problem with that. Our bags were given to the bellhop to store until we returned later that night. We had two people, two rooms, two bags per room. I gave the bellhop $20.00 and reviewed which bags went to which room. We returned to the hotel at 11:45 PM to find our luggage still sitting in the same corner of the lobby where we left them almost 12 hours earlier. They had confused which bags went to which room and didn’t want to make a mistake. OK, then lock the bags up where they will be safe. I come up to my room — quite lovely, large and nicely appointed. The heating duct (it is about 21 degrees outside) is hidden in the small entry so only about 1/4 of the room gets heat. The remaining part of the room, including the all-marble bathroom (i.e. COLD) gets no heat. I call down to request another room but the front desk tells me they have to call me back. It is now well past midnight and still no call. I call down to request a spacer heater which they reluctantly send up. I then want to order coffee for the morning. I call at least 10 times to room service where the phone rings and rings an I get a recorded message that no one is available. I call down to the front desk where I’m told they will call me back. I want to order my morning coffee and go to bed in my freezing room. Still no return call from room service and a third call to the front desk where he takes my order. Finally able to go to sleep around 1:00 AM. MIddle of the night run to the bathroom on the freezing floor not pleasant.Leave the room the next morning with the heat up to 78 so that I may come back to a warm room. Return the second night around 10:00 PM to find out that housekeeping has turned off the heat and my room is reading around 45 degrees, which is the outside temperature. I go to speak to the evening manager who only offers me an apology and offers to speak with the head of housekeeping. This is what I would expect from a Holiday Inn. Not the five-star Hotel Plaza Athenee. Too bad.

2017-07-04I had a meeting with someone who was staying there. Its a really small bar. We were there after work, and the place was almost empty. I guess its a good place if you want to drink privately. However, for the prices they charge, I would expect something a little more interesting. There are many nice upscale bars in the neighborhood.

2018-08-01Twice their housekeeping opened my door while I’m sitting here naked with my lady. One of those occasions was an hour after I checked in. The other was while I was sleeping at 845am. apparently even if you do not have the “service my room” card on the door, they still want to walk right in after only 15 seconds of waiting after the knock. Room service sent me an overdone steak. Only half the time does the doorman actually open the door for me. The picture of the grand deluxe room on their website was not at all what we received. No complimentary water bottles. No coffee. Housekeeping took left me 1 bath towel for 2 people. And took the toilet paper off of the roll without putting the other roll back on it. For such a “nice” hotel I’ve received horrible service and when I brought this to a “managers” attention he had no answers and repeatedly blamed me saying this is how it is in New York. Time after time I’ve been disappointed and was hoping to give this experience a good review. Unfortunately they don’t take respsonsibility for their mistakes so I’m left paying for treatment that was worse than even a Hilton

2019-06-03Its the quintessential NY luxury hotel experience. Doorman, bellman always cordial. Room is dated but clean, well kept. Service staff are just as one would expect in this grand hotel.

2019-06-14The concierge service is second to none. The entire staff goes out of their way to make you feel as if you are the only guest in the hotel. The room was incredibly comfortable with a absolutely no complaints. The location is perfect.

2019-12-10Weve stayed in a dozen NYC hotels (and I lived in NYC for 10 years) so we know the city well, and chose this hotel accordingly. It was wonderful. Staff was so welcoming and warm, and the location and setting cant be beat. Just a block to Central Park, and right at the zoo entrance.

2018-10-16Absolutely the best! We took visitors from out of town to this longstanding Manhattan gem, and no one was disappointed. Excellent service, wonderful food and menu choices, reasonable but full prices, in a venue setting that was perfection - overall great value at the high end of the expense scale. We loved it and our only regret is that we dont think of Plaza Athenee often enough. That will certainly change; we will return soon.

2018-09-222 BLOCKS from Central Park, not 2 MILES. Sophisticated and elegant. Great location (example 2 blocks from Daniel restaurant). Expensive, believe I paid paid $16 for a cup of tea, but great ground-floor cafe/restaurant experience. Old school Manhattan. Think Carlyle-type experience, but half their cost. Staff were wonderful, but dont expect anything complimentary (no water or coffee in room). Overall great experience.
