My advice to ignore any reviews left by people who went to a sour beer brewery and complain that they only had sour beers. This is like going to the Baked Potate in North Hollywood and complaining that they only serve baked potatoes or going to McDonalds and complaining that they only serve fast food. The beer isnt quite as good as it was a few years back but they still make the best sour IPAs available. The pizza truck makes great pizza as well. The worst thing about HVB is honestly the parking lot.
Its a bit hard to get to using google maps... Make sure you turn down the side street and youll see a gravel road that leads to a brick and white warehouse with outdoor seating. The beers are quite good, in fact probably some of the best sours youve tasted. The seating inside is adequate, but a bit crowded. Definitely gets a thumbs-up for overall presentation of beers.
I love this brewery!! Very friendly and helpful staff. Some of the best sours ever and the menu descriptions are phenomenally spot on. I was happy that they had a pilsner as well (my dad is a picky lager/pilsner only kinda guy and he enjoyed himself here too). We were there on Sunday and they also had delicious dumplings for sale inside, nice touch. We took some nice sours home and we will definitely be back!
The place itself may not be much to look at, but its cozy and people come here mainly for the beer, the atmosphere is secondary. For those who might not be aware, the beer styles here are mostly Sour and Farmhouse. Dont expect your typical IPA or Stout. Hudson Valley focuses only on its specialties and does it really really well. They often have food trucks outside. Be prepared for long lines though as the beer here is in very high demand.
Definitely a standout brewery on the east coast. Must try sour beers. Unlike some tasting rooms there is plenty of space as well as seating. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and if you are feeling hungry there are food options as well. Bonus: Located in a beautiful little town that would make great for an overnight stay if traveling far.
After being told by so many people to come here I finally did! And I am so glad I listened. After getting lost (the brewery in on the backside of what appears to be an abandoned building) I came in and the atmosphere was so warm and comfortable. The employees immediately greeted me and offered any help. The beer was amazing and while Im not usually a fan of IPAs the fruitiness of theirs takes it to a whole different level. Even the merch is cool (took home a hoodie) and the staff gave me some stickers on the way out.Next time Im passing through Ill definitely stop by for another round.
Great beer selection and really great environment. The garage space really made me nostalgic for Midwestern breweries (my love language). It was a perfect mix-and-match scenario—you could order a 4, 8, or 16 ounce of any drink, making it possible to try lots of different brews. I will definitely be back!
- High ceiling, industrial space that highlights the process- Great selection of sours- Outside seating a bonus- As printer they get an A+ for merch- A few non beer options including cider- I was hoping for a wider selection of porter and stouts but it sounds like I’m in the minority
Best brewery in NY! Great dog friendly outdoor area with food trucks.Dessert sour beers are out of bounds. They brew the most creative and imaginative styles. Im annoyed that they work to keep all of the beer drinking in house. I understand why since people like to take advantage and resell beer but I came up intending to bring a car full of sour beer home and they didnt have any of the styles I enjoyed available in bottles or crowlers.
Great spot to spend a couple hours with a group after hiking or exploring Beacon — tons of unique beers (heavy selection of fruity /sour ones) in beautiful glasses, plus a few snack options like spicy popcorn and jerky. There’s usually one food truck option available for real food. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating, but expect it to be crowded on fall weekends, with a crazy long restroom line. Will be back!
My rating reflects the limited range of beers (sours are the focus), the less then friendly staff and the local competition. On the staff point, understand that the tap room is basically a basement level garage with a concrete pad at the entrance. The entrance is a rollup door, and the pad out front serves as the patio. So, yes I know that they do not allow dogs and I was not staying, but I thought it would be okay to walk 5 feet into the entrance to buy some take-out beer. They may have sold me a 4 pack, but after repeating that they do not allow dogs 3 times, I decided to leave. Industrial Arts (3 mins away) has the same policy but I was able to bring the dog in to buy take-out. Melzingah (across the street) is also a better option with a wide selection of beers, very good food and a dog friendly pavilion (heated).
Really disappointed. My husband and I went here at night. They only had sour beers…like 20 different kinds. I don’t mind sours, but didn’t really like these. My husband is a beer connoisseur and doesn’t like sours, there was nothing for him to drink. Definitely a hipster-burn out vibe. They had stickers at the register, I’m not even that old, but I’m assuming this place is for a REALLY young crowd… Again, just really disappointed in their beer selection and the whole vibe was off putting.
All of their beers are 5 star quality. Very tasty but the parking lot is inadequate and the interior of the tasting room was not the best use of space in my opinion. On the other hand it’s in a beautiful part of the state and worth going for a great drive and great beer.
Best brewery of all time. Their beer is flawless and customer service is excellent. They treat you like a person that is spending alot of money there unlike other breweries who get cocky with their success. H. Deserves all the success theyve had and hopefully even more to come. Cheers guys🍻
Love their beers! Mostly sour beer/ sour ipa on tap. Staff is friendly. Can releases are popular and usually sell out quick so I normally just enjoy whats on tap. They offer a several different sizes of beer so its easy to try it all. Definitely a place to check out if you are in the area.
The best sour beer selection in the NY area. They come out with weekly batches of new sour flavors. That means when they sell out, you may never see it again. They have a patio for outside sitting and doggies are welcome! I recommend getting the flight of tasters rather than committing just to one flavor, they are just all so different and unique, you don’t want to miss out.
One of the coolest breweries Ive been to and the beer was excellent. My only gripe was customers not understanding the line for beer. They had everyone coming in from the left side of the bar to order but people would then get their beer and NOT move. You constantly had to ask people to keep moving. Annoying customers aside, I cant wait to go back!
Great sour IPAs. Will convert any sour doubters. Integrated beers with robust smoothness. Not like so many other sours that are sour overly fruity beer. Wonderful, informed service. Glad to see them up and running post-COVID. A tad hard to find. Better signage in front would help. Everything else is A+.
Easily one of my favorite breweries in the world! The beer is dynamic, and unique, and delicious in all of the best ways. The staff is friendly, informative, and generous with their time. The taproom is light and airy, with plenty of seating and room to roam. Given the current state of things, we recently placed an order online and had a unique delivery request for them... their staff helped us out, and made the experience pleasant. If youre already a fan of this place this just further cements your feelings... but if youre considering making the trek to enjoy it in person, or considering ordering online... you cant go wrong, this place is just terrific.
One of the best breweries around. I love driving inland from the Long Island Sound. HVB has #1 Farmhouse sours, lactose-y Double IPAs w fruit, stouts, and I especially like the tamer Pilsner and Black Lager 🍺 and always grab two bottles to age one! 🔥 favorites include blueberry lemon and earl grey, and the 11% cider crossover from last year! But Love them all.
This brewery had amazing beer selection. Really enjoyed it during my time in upstate New York. Place was spacious and was honestly one of my favorite breweries ever. Shame its not in a more popular part of New York like one of the boroughs. None the less what a great place to stop by.
One of our favorite breweries to visit. Theres always a tasty, fruity beer on draft or a release. Depending on the day and time, the place has a different feel. The place can get crowded during releases, but there is adequate space indoors and outdoors (if its warm enough) to stand if not sit. Well make the trek out here every month (or more) from Manhattan since its worth it every time.
Easily one of the most pleasant brewery experiences we have ever had. We flew up from Florida, made this our #1 brewery stop, and are so thankful we did! Not only is their beer world-class, the employees are friendly and thoughtful. Natalie went above and beyond. We cannot wait to visit them again!
Sour beers are good in the same way cigars are good: they aren’t, you basically pretend to like it until you get used to it. The sour fad has completely taken over the beer list here, and it’s pretty bad. They’ll have to change things up for me to come back. They got 2 stars because the pop up foods are great.
I like sours well enough, but I was pretty blown away by the beer I had here. I had a can of Amulet and liked it a lot so when I was in the area we decided to stop in. This is some top notch beer. The way they balanced sour, sweet, breadiness, I dont know if it could be done better. I only wish I got some crowlers.I live about two hours away but I would happily make a day trip here to enjoy some beer. Cant go wrong in my opinion.
A mecca of sour IPAs and other fruited lovelies. It is not for everyone but many non-beer drinkers approve since most options are sweet and fruity. There is a fair amount of quirkiness like no growler fills but they usually have some crowlers filled as an option. Tap room is part of their brew facility, fairly small and pretty dark since there are no windows. Beacon is a neat town on the rise so definitely worth a trip from NYC if you are onto the craft beer thing. Plenty of free parking was available and decent food truck option was onsite the day we went.
This Brewery brews some of the most complex craft beers in Dutchess county and in my opinion one of the top breweries in NY State. There options mainly consist of citrus and sour beers. All will be different from what your used to. Who wants the same ol crazy beers anyways? Not me. This place is great! Also they have setup shop in a large open warehouse. They allow well behaved dogs and usually have pop up restaurants inside on most weekends. If there isnt a pop up restaurant then they will not have food. But have no worries. Your in Beacon NY which had plenty of options. Hudson Valley is also very casual so no need to dress to impress.Eat, drink, love, be free 😉
Nice place, love the surrounding area as well. strip away the hype, and you have a pretty good brewery. aside from my opinion that sour ipa is just a marketing ploy, the sours are solid. theyre adventurous and dont always work well; when it does it is certainly a treat. curious to see if theyll try their hand at some classic styles in the future. taproom staff were helpful and patient, but could be better about moving the line along for pours. we came in shortly after opening and ordering was a breeze. but by 3pm some people were in line for 15 minutes on a pretty lowkey sunday. all in all, positive experience. def will be back.
Plan ahead when coming here, as if theres a can release that day, it may be crazy (so check their social media). Can releases still often sell out that day, but the beers stick around on tap for a few weeks. Everything on tap can be purchased as a 4/8/12 ounce (and sometimes pint for the lagers), allowing you to try a bunch of their beers on a visit. The sour IPAs have defined their niche, but there are usually some traditional sours, a lager or two, and sometimes a standard IPA on. Generally a food truck or food vendor on the weekends as well.
These folks are really putting together some interesting, and more importantly, well done and delicious beer. The location itself is typical brewery with tap wall and bar top. Go fo the beer then walk up the street for some eats. You will not be disappointed it you like sours, IPAs, or interesting adjuncts.
First off, the logo for Hudson Valley Brewery will totally be a tattoo for everyone who visits here. The sour beers were full of flavor, mildly sour and worth a taste, even if youre not a sour person. It was a bit crowded on a Saturday in November but the staff at the bar hustled to make sure everyone had a drink. The crowlers might sell out on a weekend, so grab one early.
Oh, em, gee! Talk about the BEST BREWERY IN THE HUDSON VALLEY! Ok, maybe I’m exaggerating (perhaps not in the whoooole Hudson Valley) but just try it for yourselves and see!I’ve heard so much about this place through many friends and truthfully never really wanted to go to it since there are so many other breweries around. This all changed when one day, I went over a friends house, he offered us a beer, asked me what I wanted. I said: “surprise me.” I’ve had sours before and I’m a true fan. When I said “surprise me, I wasn’t surprised. I was blown away! I tried the “bloom” batch and oh my goodness. That sour, red beer, stole my heart. I went crazy looking to see where they sold some nearby, and of course, no one does. Hudson Valley Brewery sells exclusive beer, not sold in stores or anywhere else. Some places only have it on tap. I want in on this, so I had to go personally to try the full experience. After grabbing some food on Main Street, we decided to go grab a beer. I was going just for “bloom”. To my disappointment, “bloom” was sold out. My world fell down right that instant. Line was out the door, my beer is gone, now what? One of the guys working at the counter made sure to offer me a quick alternative that was similar to “bloom”: “gemheart”. Wow. This sour tastes exactly as described: berry açaí bowl!We also ordered the “hiding place”: Aperol Spritz, Fanta, focaccia. Serious orange citrus overload. My overall experience at the Hudson Valley Brewery was all thumbs up. It’s not a huge brewery, there are some benches and seats inside (it was very packed on a Saturday afternoon). Since it was nice and sunny on this cool winter day, we went outside and soaked up that sun with our fresh, cold, sours. Also got our puppy fix since some awesome humans brought their pups (they’re pet friendly, WHICH I LOVE!).If you’re hungry, there’s a food truck where you can grab a quick bite to pair with your beer.Make sure to take home some cans and stock up on your favorite beer before it gets sold out!
GREAT Brewery. Uses business model most popularized by Treehouse and NE IPA breweries (secret releases, only can get cans at the brewery, small batch that can be in short supply and order limits) but is more known for sours than ipas. Get there early, expected a wait and a limit of what you can buy at a time. Demands patience sometimes, but the payoff is well worth it. Plus barbs butchers bbq on the weekends.
On a weekend trip to the Hudson Valley, I stumbled on Hudson Valley Brewery after having their absolutely delightful Tangerine Silhouette in a local bar. There was no question about visiting the HVB the next day. After a short struggle to find the location (it really isnt that hard, just on the backside of the main Beacon drag), we walked into a low-lit, warm and welcoming tasting room. Huge shout out to Jesse, who greeted us at the bar and was wonderful! My first pour was the Passionfruit Silhouette, which was nothing short of life-changing. My next was the Soleil 2018 Farmhouse which took it to an entirely new level. As they did last call and after a passionate conversation about HVBs endeavors, Jesse sent us on our way with a token precious can of Total Internal Reflection. The next day we went back when the doors opened for two crowlers of the Passionfruit Silhouette. Ive without question found my all-time favorite brewery, followed HVB on every possible social media channel, and will be stalking their releases. Theyre crushing the sour game and Im in love!

2022-03-08This is a really fun place to go with a group. I’m not normally a fan of sours but they have some amazing flavors here. Lots of outdoor space but I wish they had a little more seating indoors. They don’t have any food but let you bring in any food you’d like. The pours are also generous and very inexpensive!

2022-01-19Happy the taproom is open indoor tasting this winter. Definitely go for the sours, I can’t really say much about the stouts/IPAs. Some of my favorite sours in the northeast. Lots of tasty flavors - love anything with raspberries, passion fruit, blueberries. The beers can be a little overpowering, which is fine if you stick with smaller pours/flights.

2021-10-26People need to come with an open mind. Yes, there were a lot of sours on the menu but they all didn’t taste like sours to me. Also, I’m not an IPA fan and I had the DIPA and it was by far my favorite beer. Friendly staff. Beer cans have great graphics. Cool logo. Would return. If you’re looking for outdoor seating my advice is come early! The place opened at noon on Sunday and by 12:30 p.m. tables were filled up!

2022-04-23We have been coming here for 7+ years. Started coming to the brewery before it became popular and there were just two tables inside and you could can anything on tap.Although I still do like their beer, I was pretty surprised to come across the “no pets” sign at their brewery. This is on the patio. I have never been to a brewery or even a restaurant (outside of Michelin star or really fancy places) that did not allow dogs .Those with fur babies can find nice places in Beacon that are not just allowing pups in but are happy that you and your pup are there.

2022-02-12This place makes the best sour beers in the world in my opinion. I always make sure to stop here when Im in the area. Beers always have a lot of depth to them. Its an art here as much as it is a brewery. A must go to when in the area!
