This place was amazing! Got their gin cocktail and it was surprisingly smooth. We decided to be spontaneous and went with the chef cook for you menu that is $48 on Mondays (normally $60) and comes with family style appetizer and entrees. The octopus was cooked to its perfection, and the chorizo was super flavorful unlike normal sausages to how you would expect. The swordfish was slightly disappointing as it wasnt as flavorful as the other dishes but it didnt ruin the overall dining experience. The food was great and the staff was friendly - always stopping by at the right time to serve us the next dish and fill our water. This place also doesnt accept tip nwhich was a surprise towards the end. Definitely recommend!
We had high hopes for this restaurant but it was unfortunately disappointing. While the atmosphere is pleasant and casual, the food is very average. We tried the patatas, the octopus and the mackerel conserve. The patatas are just normal potatoes and were probably the best of the three. The conserve was okay. The octopus was the most disappointing since it was pretty much tasteless. The one positive thing about Huertas in my experience was the selection of ciders.
We opted for the Cook for you menu, which is based on they chefs selection. Cant say I would recommend that. I think we would have had a better meal had we ordered a la carte and probably paid less. The pork chop at the end was good, although a bit salty. Everything else was forgettable or too salty. Overall ok, but probably will not be back.
This is a review of the even by Tasting Collective that we attended. It was a 10-course brunch, created especially for this event (they dont usually serve brunch). The inside was really nice and warm, with lots and lots of wood used throughout. Even the sign outside had wood. The left side was exposed red brick wall, beautiful and brings out the rick history behind it. The inside is long but not so narrow. I liked how the tables are set in a way that they are more spacious than most other restaurants in Manhattan. Right behind these counters is a huge, beautiful, wooden bar, fully stacked. They have counter seating and tables seating up front, and booth seating in back, next to kitchen. After the booth and kitchen, they have a bigger room with more table seating.During this 10-course brunch, I got to taste: Citrus and Cream Torrijas, Green Garlic Tortilla Española, Jamón Croquetas, Little Gem Salad, Marinated Mushrooms, Membrillo and Idiazabal Toasts, Octopus and Shishito Pepper Skewers, Pimentón Bacon and Pea Migas, Piquillo Rellenos, Smoked Pork Fat Potatoes.I had an amazing brunch here at Huertas, thanks to the chef, staff, and of course, Tasting Collective. I would love to go back for more of their high quality, tasty food. One thing I learned about this restaurant is that they use “Hospitality Included” structure, meaning, no tips required. Therefore, their staffs are treated equally and fairy, and they have more connection to the restaurant and it’s success. It is good to know your server is not working to get your tip, but they are working to do their best, without any concern for tips. I really like and support that! This is a great spot to have an amazing, high quality meal to share with your loved ones, in very comforting, relaxing atmosphere. I can already think of several people to bring with us for our future visits…! Read my full review of this restaurant and food on my food blog, foodlovergirl.
Everything was excellent, but I we did find the octopus a little bit bland. In addition, the mackerel was literally out of a can, so also a bit blend. Great service and a comfy restaurant in the LES. Wise to make a reservation. Also, as most tapas restaurants, it does get expensive.
Too busy eating to take photos! Dark, intimate and cosy table at the back for 6 of us. Waitress was excellent and in moments we’d agreed on the chef’s suggestion of sharing plates for 6. Excellent food - Mexican/Asian with a gourmet twist on homely. Wine list was well-rounded and not gouging on the pricing front. 800 bucks for 6 chef’s meals and 3 bottles of Spanish Rioja. Good soundtrack that was 80s/90s and not too loud. An excellent casual addition to that part of town.
I recently bought a Basque cookbook, but have never had the food, so I was really excited when I found Huertas while researching places to eat in NYC. Wow! The food and service were so good I found myself asking why there arent more restaurants like this everywhere...meaning outside NYC. The pintxos were a great way to start. Our waitress highly recommended the Iberico steak and it was so delicious I cant even describe how good it was. The Octopus was excellent as well. Wine by the bottle is reasonably priced. I have to come back to NYC soon for business and am definitely coming back here for dinner!
We went here to get the tasting menu, and it was really good. Its probably my favorite restaurant right now, and I would like to go back when I can. It was cool that they had a chefs tasting menu that wasnt necessarily on their menu. One of the favorite dishes I had was potato and squid in squid ink. I think the tasting menu is really worth it especially on Sunday and weekdays when its cheaper. I love the fact that it doesnt accept gratuity, while their service was still very good. The manager, Flip, was also very friendly and came over to talk to us for awhile about the food. I will definitely come back here again.
Really awesome place! Was invited there tonight and it was my first time. Everything here is first rate - food, drinks, decor and service. We had couple of tapas (tuna with chick peas; some kind of rice; octopus over potatoes; a dish with shrimp; deep fried stuff balls) topped off with a sweet fried roll dipped in hot fudge. (Sorry, dont remember what were the dishes called!) The portions were so generous that we ended up taking some home. Really exceptional was the service... Staff continuously checked on our well-being and it wasnt only our server. They were so professional and courteous; always came over with a genuine smile and helpful suggestions. My friend loved it so much, shes seriously contemplating a party there for her sons 21st. Absolutely will return and recommend!
My husband and our 2 friends had been to Basque and we were missing the food so we went to this place. Made a reservation for a Saturday night and they kept it. Even though our 2 friends were running late, they sat us. Everything was delicious. We did around 7 main plates amongst the 4 of us and 2 desserts. Perfect amount of food for us and all delicious. The only reason for 4 stars was our server wasn’t the friendliest and seemed eager for us to leave, maybe since 2 of us weren’t drinking alcohol? Worth a try!
Made an easy reservation for 2 on a Monday night after work and just in time for happy hour ($5 for a selection of beer, wine, and mezcal).Came here primarily for Lil Deb’s Oasis pintxos, which were fantastic, and got a plate of arroz to share. Really good food and service.Perfect ambience for dates but great for larger groups as well since noise levels are too high.Best part- they incorporate service fees into menu items so you don’t have to fuss with extra numbers.
With a menu showing the La Concha of Donostia, you know it has to be good 🚰 Solid happy hour choices including gin and tonic on tap. My choice was the traditional cider, served complete with bottle pourer.Didnt get a chance to try the food but Ill be back to do so! Atmosphere and attention to detail are perfect here.
Huertas was amazing! We had my sisters baby shower there and the food was delicious, the service was impeccable and the space was beautiful! They were incredibly organized, detailed and responsive in terms of finalizing the details of the event. Thank you so much Huertas for making such a special day for us!
We dined here the Friday following NYCs relaxing of mask rules and the whole city was jumping, including Huertas, which was packed full by the time we left. But the service was attentive and timely. And the great thing about tapas is the food comes out as its ready, so we never waited too long for the next delicious morsel. And delicious it was, all of it! I could go through the list of everything we ate, but will simply state that everything was a hit, so whatever suits your appetite, order away!!The atmosphere is very European, with a number of tables outside, under cover. not sure how much longer the city will let them keep it up, but ask for a table outside if you can.
We loved this place! We organised a family reunion remotely with people coming in from LA, Houston and UK along with our NY family, and the communication was great. There were 17 of us with food in family style, octopus and rice with shrimps were standouts but everything was delicious and the whole evening went off without a hitch. The whole family loved it and the NYers will be heading back very soon.
If you have never been to Spain, this is the place for you! Happy hour doesnt even cushion the blow that normally they would serve for $4 two 1/4 inch pieces of bacon between similar sized pieces of pepper as a dish. The patatas bravas and Spanish omelette was salt as the sea. Our recommendation - order the croquettes during happy hour ($1). Order 10 and nothing else.
What an amazing meal. The jamon melts on your tongue and all is deliciously paired and coordinated. It’s been a great while since I enjoyed a dinner so much; well, maybe since Spain! The vermouth is also a real treat. Until we can travel again, this experience brightened our winter. Special.
Our family visited Huertas recently and loved it. Great food, excellent wine and our waitress, Katie, was fantastic. I appreciate how conscientious the staff is about mask wearing and social distancing. I also noticed that unlike many restaurants, Huertas has hot water in its mens restroom, which always makes me feel more confident that the restaurant sweats the details on cleanliness. Having has such a great experience, we will be coming back to Huertas soon!
Excellent gem on 1st Avenue. Perfect ambiance, delicious food, small plates allow you to try many great things on the menu! Perfect wine list that pairs well with our meal, our waitress was supremely knowledgeable about the food and wine selection. Thank you Kate (our waitress), we are honored you shared your evening with us and ensured we have great memories at Huertas! Gracias!
This is an extraordinary meal of bold and savory flavors. We had the chefs tasting menu and it is really well worth it. Every plate brought to us was magnificent. From the sardines, to the octopus to the cheese. They were so accommodating giving us a fabulous menu that didnt make us miss gluten one bit. And of course you should do it with the wine pairing. :)
Not only does Huertas make Vermouth in the basement, they have the best happy hour in the East Village by far! The menu is delicious from top to bottom, the cocktail options (especially the on tap Gin & Tonic) are affordable and scrumptious, the service is excellent and the whole vibe is friendly and cosy. Great place to spend a lazy Sunday afternoon.I cant wait to go back asap!
I like the atmosphere most if all. Nice design and feels like it goes out of its way to be a neighborly place. Food is simple but tasty. This a no tipping restaurant. I liked knowing that the staff was taken care of financially and that their wages were dependent on customer whims. I would go back again if I was in the area looking for a place to have a drink that had food.
Huertas has good drinks and so-so food. The food was not very good, but it was good enough for snacking with your cocktails. The bartender upfront is so sweet and shes really great! I suggest staying at the bar and enjoying the drinks. The back restaurant area is a little unfriendly.
A very nice Spanish restaurant in downtown Manhattan on the Eastside. Can be both cozy & romantic and casual. The hostess and servers were very good, friendly, helpful. The server was knowledgeable about everything on the menu and took time explaining everything in detail including giving suggestions based on what we wanted to eat. The quality and taste of food was excellent. The cocktails were pretty different and very well made. Had a great evening. It is a little on the expensive side but well worth it. Would definitely be going back again.
Groups of six for dinner including two gluten-free and one eating only fish. Menu consists of small plates. Chose the tasting menu and two bottles of wine for the complete experience of the food. Every dish was delucious and perfect for the group. Service was attentive and very friendly. Anticipate a return visit soon.
Had the tasting menu and it was one of the best takes on Spanish/Basque food Ive ever had. Having recently gotten back from Spain I can assure you this is a great spot for dinner. Happy hour specials are great. Seriously try the hotdogs they are the best Ive ever tasted.
Oh man, I loved this place. A tapas bar that loses the formality and keeps the fun. Lots of interesting Basque style tapas, plus a focus on cask sherry and unusual cocktails. Highly recommend one of the frescas, light and sparkly (and not sweet!) cocktails which you can order by the glass or pitcher. Acoustics permitted easy conversation, which is rare these days.
The happy hour at the bar is totally worth it. Pintos are half price and very nicely done, loved the croquetas, anchovies, meatballs and basque dog. Unfortunately the mains were really overpriced and below average, huertos rotos became strange noodles instead of thin fries and scallops were not very fresh or interesting with mismatch on sauce and plum accompaniment. Staff and service is great and nice looking restaurant!
When we lived on the LES, this was our goto place. We went there at least twice a week for more than a year. Cocktails are great. Food is always amazing. Weve probably recommended Huertas to 20 people at this point and theyve all had similarly great experiences.Beyond that we got to know most of the bar tenders, servers, managers and owners over the years and they are all great people and now friends.Honestly the first place I recommend in NYC to everyone who asks.
Saffron rice was flavorful (maybe a touch salty), croquetas crispy on the outside hot and tasty on the inside, egg salad and anchovy/pepper/olive pintxos we’re authentic and well executed. Good selection of drinks (only had cider and beer, satisfied). I’d give 4.5 stars if I could, half star deduction would be for one bathroom opening onto the kitchen, a little weird to emerge from there and looking eye to eye w the chefs. And maybe a bit of tough experience w service sitting at the table by the window, understandable due to layout. Would come back and give this place another try, especially given the well executed food.
Super restaurant. Love the ambiance and the staff. Food is super good. Love the spicy chicken bites for appetizer. I was not sure about the fish in a can but it was super good. Drinks are also surprisely good. Even if wine and sprite sounds simple, it is amazingly good with the food.
Some dishes are more successful than others in being a good representation of Spanish food when it comes to deliver the rich flavour of Spanish cuisine. The croquetas, the mushrooms, the shrimp pil pil and the octopus (although slightly overcooked) are very good and tasty. However other dishes fall flat, like the Spanish omelette (only resembling in shape but not at all in proportion of ingredients or texture as it is very eggy instead of being mostly potatoes and onion as a good Spanish omelette in Spain would be), or the Saffron rice, which is just an odd combination of ingredients that is not at all Spanish. The staff is friendly and professional and the ambiance is nice. All in all worth giving it a try. Though the kitchen needs to up their game and improve on some of the dishes, particularly learning to do churros (they served us something that was not made of churros mix at all, although when we mentioned they didnt charge us for them).
Warm and personal staff. its a no tipping place. I ordered the tapas, truly a delight. I tried the octupus - cooked just right.very tasty. another tapa shrimp in a garlic sauce, awesome , the garlic was not overpowering . Rice tapa ( forgot the name) yummy with a little crunchiness to it, outtasight. I dont drink alcohol but my sister who does, sabes about their tinto with their own homemade vermouth. I ordered a mocktail made with grapefruit, honey and seltzer I dont know what else, but it was refreshing tasty and simply delicious. nice atmosphere, clean and with a nice ambiance ..go there youll return. I am
We threw a surprise 40th for our friend at Huertas and we were so pleased with the event!! Rachel was fantastic to work with and super responsive. The food, cocktails, and service were perfect. it made our intimate event of 30 people extra special. The owner took the time to chat with us the night of our party to ensure all our needs were met. Will definitely be back and recco for other private events!
Huertas serves Basque food. Service was pretty good on the one hand, they accomodated my late arrival (there was an issue changing my reservation in the Resy app) but on the other hand they didnt answer the phone when I tried calling back and our second round of drinks sat on the bar for about ten minutes before someone noticed and brought them over. Food was pretty tasty, maybe a bit on the salty side but I may be sensitive to that since unlike most Americans, I dont eat a lot of processed food. I really liked the sardine presentation with salted butter, radishes, parsley, and crusty bread. The Manchego was good although I would have liked more cheese and fewer crackers. The shisito peppers were maybe a bit much--tasty but a bit one-note to have a whole dish of. I liked the fried rice, kind of like shrimp paella but with aioli although again it was a bit salty. My favorite dish was the pinxto (Basque tapas) of the day, some kind of fried fish with chickpeas and a delicious mayo-based sauce. The overall vibe was cool and even though service is included, the prices were not overly high.
Honestly, we came into this meal being so optimistic about it because the menu looked great and I shaved to say the whole thing was terrible. The room is pretty but the food was actually so underwhelming and left us looking at eachother so confused, the service was bad because they are no tip so they don’t care because they’re already getting paid. There are so many other places to try, this shouldn’t be too of the list.
I went with my girlfriend for my birthday, and found it a fun and palatable way of trying a cuisine (Basque) that isnt very advertised in the city. The chef personally came to our table and explained the particularities of every dish, and the rest of the staff was very approachable, personable and helpful.
I really like the menu here and the prices were more reasonable than I expected. The large party I was with seemed to have enough room and they were able to manage the pre-set menu pretty well. I would like to go back to try some more of the small plates and specials. I liked that they gave all the dishes I tried a Spanish flair.
We had a reservation for the small backroom where only the 5-course tasting menu ($55 plus $30 for drink pairings) was served. We also had some clams and apertifs in the front bar areas where tapas are passed around like hor douerves. Everything was quite excellent with a good mix of traditional dishes and more innovative ones like parsnip puree with poached egg and shaved cured eggs. The desert of sweet goat cheese pot au feu type treat was probably the highlight. Service was efficient and each dish was explained well without excessive elaboration. Overall an excellent choice for a good value gourmet dinner when you inevitably get sick of all the French, Italian, and new American/locavore choices.
My fiance is from Spain, so hes always eager and cautious to try different Spanish restaurants in the city. This, was a home run. He talked about the food for days after and we will definitely be back - with friends! The friendly staff with a gratuity free vibe also helps to let you simply relax and enjoy the experience.
If you want real spanish food dont go to this place. First of all I ordered a Clara, its beer with lemon, and they brought me beer with a real lemon in the top of the glass and ice... yes, ice!! Omg! Beer with ice? Since when??? And the pintxos? well... they leave to much to be desired. They are smaller than I thought, after got dinner I had to go to Mcdonalds so guys, if you dont want to take a disappointment, avoid Huertas restaurant.
Went here for a company event. Kind of funny how staff was recommending beer only later to admit they did not like beer. The draft selection was pretty boring but among bottles and cans they had some pretty interesting craft beer so skip the drafts and go for cans/bottles.
Solid date spot. Lovely friend hangout spot, too. Get a booth, or a sidewalk booth.Come for the ambiance and service. Stay for the pinxtos: foie gras on toast (if they have it), toasted to perfection. Love their house hot dogs (just look up photos!). During the summer, order from the hot dog window. Its open all summer long, every weekend from noon until 5pm[1].Bartenders pour expert drinks. Their San Sebastian is Mike Tyson in a baby carriage: lots of punch in a tiny package. Their gintonics will make your toes curl, especially if youre into gin.See you at the bar (eventually).[1] last I checked
With hospitality included and an almond ice cream to die for, Huertas is the perfect place to try a distinct cuisine that requires thought to piece the each delicious component together. A start with the chicken liver mousse can put anyone in the mood for a great meal and is only topped by the Arroz and the amazing morsels of flavor it hides.
Great East Village spot to grab tapas and drinks in a casual atmosphere. The Mezcal and Bourbon are excellent drink choices. As for tapas, all of the following did not disappoint: mushrooms (setas), croquettes, chorizo, grilled octopus, huevos rotas, and shisito peppers. Churros cap off a great dining experience.
Wines are excellent, attentive staff, great for various social moments - catching up with a dear old friend, a date, a group of new/old college buddies having a laugh and a meal, or a business discussion over tapas, or etc .. Warm atmosphere, yummy food, I look forward to my next visit.
Tries to reinvent perfecr classics too much. Keep it basic and classic. Missed any sangria on the menu and some classics like garlicy shrimp, etc. Patatas bravas were delish, tortilla espanola was reimagined and not a success. Favorite bite was the fois gras mini app.
Routinely closes early and does not keep to their advertised hours. It’s probably worth calling ahead to make sure the staff feel like working that day before going in. Super disappointed with the service and attitude of this place. Not sure why they get such high ratings as a tapas restaurant.

2022-03-01We had a private event at Huertas last weekend and cant express our heartfelt gratitude with the quality and execution of their delicious food, drinks and exceptional service! From beginning to end, Katie and Jonah were phenomenal in helping us plan the event - made it easy and never stressful. We did a lot of research for a private lunch and Huertas met all our requirements - real private room, delicious & well priced food menu options and drink packages, and responsiveness. As I told Huertas, we are truly thankful for the turnout of our private event, that we cant wait to plan the next private event there again! If you are looking for a restaurant for a private event, look no further and reach out to Katie at Huertas - she is exceptional and was there for the planning and at the event itself!Highly recommend Huertas, for Happy Hour, Dinner and Private Events!

2022-05-15Food is flavorful, we loved the basque dog, the Gilda’s were tiny, not enough to fully enjoy the flavor. We ordered the octopus which was delicious, please try it! The drinks were great, we tried the vermouth on tap, the gin and tonic on tap, and a glass of rioja. The steak was the worst part of my experience. It was a cheap cut of beef cooked very very poorly. It had a thick grey/brown ring around the edges a little pink and mainly blue in the middle. Very poorly cooked.

2022-04-28Incredibly stingy portions for their events room10+ people. I do not recommend booking this for a work event or a large party. Their staff was also pretty rude when i questioned the portionsserved. At a $1500 bill, you get plenty of coldbread, 10 ham croquettes and two pieces of a tiny flank steak. Take your work event somewhere else.

2022-02-22Excellent Basque Tapas here before going to see STOMP down the street. Loved the simple presentation and fresh and perfect flavors. Really kind and friendly waiter who handled the fun 21st bday celebration with ease and generosity! Love the interior and cozy feel to the restaurant. Only wish there had been more of us so we could have tried more items! Croquettes, tomato bread, olives, hanger steak, tinned garlic fish, all impeccable. Thank you!

2017-05-03Solid place to go for Spanish style tapas.Everything we ordered was delicious. Alongside the well prepared small plates, the cocktails were also quite nice. The interior is also well designed and suitable for casual and nicer meals
