Shazeer and his staff go beyond whats expected, providing an excellent living experience at HUIS24. Learning of a lung condition in the family, the building team cleaned the filters in the air conditioner and heater. While the filters were not due for a cleaning, the staff felt it was the right thing to do, and this is a great example of them going above and beyond. The building itself feels new and is well-maintained, and priced competitively in the area.Highway recommended if youre looking for housing in the Long Island City area.
Pay Attention! They will hold your security deposit! Our lease ended on April 2021. I waited 3 months. They never sent back our security deposit. And they dont reply our email. We had to find a lawyer and filled a claim to Small Claim Court. It is super frustrated experience.
Weve lived here since August and while our experience with the building staff (supers and doormen) has been great, we have had issues with structural issues and the management team.Structurally, we find that soundproofing is very poor, and tenants can hear everything that happens in the halls, and anyone in the hall can hear everything that happens in the unit. I mean normal volume conversations sound like you are next to the person even if the door is closed. Insulation on the outer walls and windows is also pretty bad and the windows get really cold and you cant sit next to them. The balcony is virtually useless for a majority of the year due to the placement of the AC split outside unit-- it blows ultra-freezing air on you if the heat is on, and ultra-hot air on you if the AC is on. So you cannot have the AC running inside during a party and have a few people go outside. While these are good things to keep in mind while making your decision about where to live, the major warning to future residents would be to account for the fact that the installed heating systems-- mitsubishi hyper heat units that both heat and cool --are not sufficient for northeastern winters, and will create a high bill (budget around 300 a month for electricity during colder months in a 2 br, more than double what Ive paid at any other home). The realtors lied to us and claimed that the landlords would be paying for the heat, going into extensive detail about how the landlords generated the heat and the units only delivered it when I specifically asked about this during our viewing --and the lie went as far as for the lease to misleadingly state landlord pays for heat, hot water and cooking gas. Tenant pays for Electric (Distribution of heat powered by Mitsubishi HVAC)-- although this could not possibly be accurate since the heat was being generated by the units, not distributed, and was being paid entirely by us, the tenants. When we confronted management about this (with hard evidence including engineering studies showing that these units are inefficient beyond certain temperatures, something even the manufactures admit), they were extremely slow to respond, promised to help with excessive bills since they were dishonest about who was responsible for heat in the first place, but ultimately did not follow through on an acceptable solution offering us much less than necessary to cover the excessive cost after conducting an inspection on a particularly warm (over 8 C), completely misrepresentative day, and determining that everything was ok.Their dishonesty and slow handling of this issue is a red flag to me that I feel compelled to warn future tenants about-- please note that these are brand new appliances and we are the first tenants of the unit-- the problem will only be getting worse as the building and these heat pumps age. For current residents, if you are facing similar issues with your units, please note that we have found that placing the fan setting on high is necessary to achieve adequate heating. Medium or low will not work.
Absolutely horrible building management, don’t expect to get an email response from them for any matter except when you forget to pay your rent 5 days before it’s due. Building itself is very nice except it gets really cold in the winter and electricity bill will be high.

2022-06-30I moved cross-country from San Francisco and basically took a leap of faith and rented an apartment at Huis24 SIGHT UNSEEN based on the great google reviews from past tenants!!! And that was probably the second best decision Ive made in NYC (no.1 being my current boyfriend).Shazeer and his staff (Mike, Luis!!!) went above and beyond to make us feel like family.- You cooked a dinner for 10 and clogged your kitchen sink - Shazeer to the rescue- You travelled for 2 weeks and order too many packages - no worries well ask for permission and bring them straight to your apartment- You accidentally lost your key within the first week living there - dont worry were not charging you an exorbitant amount (if at all) to replace themOn top of that:- He made me this delicious braised beef from his hometown in Guyana- Provided his feedback on the interior design of the apartmentIf not for my decision to move to Seattle, I would have loved to stay here again (luckily a friend was more than happy to take over the lease). Highly recommend Huis24 because of this team!

2021-03-25My boyfriend and I lived in this building from the beginning of its build and for 3 years we truly enjoyed our time. Shazeer and his team became members of our little family and we always felt like valued tenants. Shazeer is a prompt and responsive superintendent and all the staff were friendly and helpful whenever we needed any sort of assistance, from moving furniture out to needing playing cards late one evening. The building itself is super close to all forms of transportation (bus, train, bike, ferry) and has great access to the queensboro bridge walk/bike path and many bars and restaurants. We will miss Huis24!

2020-02-29My boyfriend and I lived here for 2 years and had to unfortunately move due to new needs. We absolutely loved our time here. The building is in outstanding condition and management is on top of everything. Door guards are some of the nicest, most thoughtful people we have ever come across. The building manager, Shazeer, is also great with all the tenants. Ive never left a review at a place Ive lived but felt this team needs to be recognized for their great work!

2020-12-01I chose this building for its proximity to the city and easy access to the subway. The true value of this building though comes from the exceptional staff that work here. Shazeer is the building manager and he and his team are extremely friendly and helpful. They go out of their way to address any issues quickly and conveniently. The guys at the front desk (specifically Mike and John) are some of the nicest people you’ll meet. The staff here are truly exceptional!

2019-10-25My wife and I lived in Huis24 for two years and loved it! The location is very convenient within 5 minutes of 6 major subway lines and down the block from a bus stop that leads into Manhattan. The value is good and on par with the rest of the area, and as a smaller building there tends not to be a lot of people using the amenities. The staff is great and always cheery and helpful. Communication with Shazeer, the building’s manager, is very good, ensuring that any building issues are promptly tended to. If not for a move out to California, we would very likely stay for at least another few years!

2019-10-31Absolutely loved living here for the past two years! Our apartment had amazing floor to ceiling windows with lots of light, all new appliances, the amenities were awesome and the building has a great location. Most importantly the staff is amazing, always going above and beyond to help tenants out. The super (shazeer) truly puts the *SUPER* in SUPER STAR and the doormen are also fantastic!! Would definitely recommend living here to anyone!! 😊

2021-02-25I can only say good things about the extremely observant superintendent Shazeer. He is fantastic at balancing tenant comfort and the buildings needs. . I have had the pleasure to have Shazeer as a super in my previous building and apparently have followed him to huis 24. Shazeer is the building manager. His team is always working around the clock to ensure a clean, and safe building. Any Issues that I ever faced one specifically with a faulty dishwasher. I had put in a request and it was answered immediately, but Shazeer came up to inspect the issue firsthand. I have lived in many apartments and Shazeer is professional in how he manages his team, and employs them to care for the building with an exceptional attention to detail. Above all his professional and caring demeanor is an asset.

2021-09-03Every doorman is great besides John. Treats me like an outcast and has something against me. VERY UNPROFESSIONAL. For example , he refuses to open the door for me but will open it for everyone else. When asked why his reply is “Did you get a key fob when you got your apartment? Ok then...opening the door is not my job it’s just a courtesy.” Every other doorman is beyond great and actually enjoys their job and show nothing but respect.

2019-05-08Have lived here for 1.5 years. When I first moved in, the building was great we had 24hr doormen and the building was clean. There were some maintenance issues for such a new building, but the intimacy of the staff within the building made it a great place to live.Unfortunately that has changed. Management has been very sneaky about the changes within the building and although we are paying for a 24hr door men building, they have replaced 8 hours with a virtual doorman... it would be no big deal but they were not honest about the process advertising the virtual doorman as an adjunct to what were we’re currently paying and then one day they removed the doorman. As staff has been cut, the building also looks older than it actually is.If you are considering this building, I would definitely speak to some of the tenants, with so many new buildings in LIC you would be paying the same amount or lower for more services
