Im sure when things settle down the atmosphere wont be so chaotic but since this was only the 2nd day back it was quite a mess. No organization, lines forming and people dont know what theyre standing on line for. I was lucky to get a security guard who was patient and knowledgeable to guide my daughter in the right direction. I wish I knew his name. Anyway, great school but very unorganized today!
If i could give this college a zero i would !!! I tried getting in contact with my advisor and the offices but no response , very unorganized and unprofessional, please don’t waste your time here, even community colleges are more organized then this college i would suggest Bmcc has way better advisors and organized
This school has by far the worst communication with students. They ignore emails & dont care if you are having trouble with classes or not. Nicole is the worst advisor for not answering emails and not helping , she made me miss last semester just because she kept cancelling meetings. 🖕😡

A phenomenal public college nested in the Upper East Side serves many future teachers, medical professionals, software engineers, professional actors and singers, media personalities, philanthropists, lawyers, and many more. I love that the college has preserved and kept its Tudor style building known as Thomas Hunter Hall which still features many of its original details.
The education is great, but the school doesnt care about you in the least. Theyre completely disorganized, often rude, and will do things like lose your financial paperwork and then claim you never sent it. (This happened to me and SEVERAL people I know.) All in all, if I had to do it all again, I would probably pick a different school.

Any other time than the pandemic, this college is the bees knees. But the ventilation in the higher floor classrooms are in need of more scrutiny, with more surface cleaning (such as desks). The upper floor classrooms are less than prepared to handle social distancing, given their nature and overpacked classroom sizes. Its still a mystery as to why distanced means of learning cannot be chosen at the discretion of the students.
Long lines for the COVID vaccination checks, and even longer for those whose One Card is not working for one reason or another. But the mood is good and everyone is glad to be back for in-person instruction.

It makes me lost interest in the subject I supposed to be passionate about. I still remember the scolding and sarcasm of some professor till this day even though I attended long time ago. I wish I could have chosen any school instead. :(
Service has to improve. Bad costumer service with very few options, 96st building school doesnt offer services for college students such as: cafeteria, library; etc...

I m very thankful for hunter college. The college has allowed Calvary Baptist church to hold their church services there until calvary Baptist church has been rebuilt on 57 th street 123 west 57 th street. Which will take a couple of years

I attended here for undergraduate. Its an extremely unique experience. Its not like your typical huge American campus school like you see in movies.. its in the center of Manhattan, very urban experience. Like nothing youve seen before. Very special.
One of the best cuny schools
Hunter provides great education for the money you pay for it. The nursing program is super popular among students. Staffs are nice but not really helpful with anything. The ratio of women to men in this college is like 3-1. Not a lot to do on campus but outside of campus lots to do. Overall a Great school.
A great selection of classes and such a great deal, if you want to think of an education in those terms. It loses a star because there isnt much support from the administration. When I was a Freshman in 2006 the Freshman Block was merely a group of students who took the same classes, with no extra support.Some 200- and most 300-level humanities courses are top-notch, while the lower-level courses and the sciences can be a bit rote. It truly depends on the professor. I wish they would make shopping around for classes part of the first week.

Hunter has great professors and a better community. The professor pushes you to do better and everyone likes to give a helping hand. Hunter is a very kind community that will not be shattered just because of one persona doing. We are here for an education and not some unwanted drama.
Great location and conveniently connected to the subway station so it helps when the weather is nasty. Professors were mostly ok, it depends on your major but I had two really bad professors, so clueless and unprofessional that any of the students could give better lecture than them. Overall it was a decent experience and I recommend this over other CUNY schools I’ve been to.
Good school for the price. Considering the value you are receiving, its hard to complain. Yes, its overcrowded and severely underfunded. Printers usually wont work, or there will be a huge line. Hallways will be so crowded you wont be able to breathe. Professors are exhausted, out of their minds and underpaid. The quality has indeed deteriorated over the years.. but its still decent for what you are paying.
Great school full of diversity and tons of things to do. Best bang for the buck. Its one of the best schools after transferring from Columbia. Go here if you dont want to major in DEBT.
I’ve attended hunter for both my BA and MA degrees and aside from the half-renovated, half-dilapidated infrastructure, I found it to be a good deal for my (borrowed) money. I also enjoyed most of my professors here who are very passionate about their content areas. The service from different offices/departments has improved since I first came here in 2007, because you can do a lot online and purchase books, etc. from other stores. It used to be terribly crowded and slow.
This school do not help you in any aspect they just look for money that we don’t have I’m broke and they want more money very expensive even though I have financial aid.
I went there and got a degree in accounting back in 2012. Some of the teachers were awesome, others not so much. I had one in particular who was extremely rude and nasty and would cop the biggest attitude when you went to his office hours. Not fun. Some of them would curse in class. Also the students....were not the friendliest. People basically go to class and go back to their personal lives so making friends was hard. Many of the students were big cheats. Library facilities were not the cleanest or roomiest. Its a city college so you get what you pay for....its cheap. You want a real college experience complete with lifelong friends, fraternities, activities, etc this is not the place. Go to Columbia or NYU, if you could afford it. You want a diploma factory, then you got it here.
Check the professor reviews in your department first, before coming here for certain majors. Geography is very good, but urban studies less so. Student body is good in general, however the campus, food and actual degree requirements suck. The degree requirements have multiple levels of requirement and the internship requirement for some majors are ridiculous. Its okay to require an internship ro graduate, but no student should have to take an essentially useless course to receive credit to work for free.

I am a transfer student here at hunter college. I had an idea of majoring in education, but I was declared undecided. My advisor, Erica Pearson has not helped me or bothered to reach out to me. I have emailed her, never answered, called her, a busy line, and made an appointment, but was cancelled because she was busy. I have only contacted her once and that was only for my schedule. As a transfer student, I wanted to talk to an advisor and explore my major. Even though theres a walk in advisor, they told me that upcoming freshman were only allowed and that the advisor that I had, was to be contacted. I had to figure out everything myself. If you are planning to transfer to hunter, be advised, it will be hard to figure out everything that you will need to do. very disappointed
This college is supportive of students. The school uses its resources for the students. The clubs are very welcoming. For a good school experience, choose Hunter. Good job Hunter.
I go here and Im surviving. As with any college thats in NYC that you commute to you will be tired, and stressed but its life. This is a cuny you get what you expect, a college life that allows you to work, have a family and learn to be an adult and if has a diverse environment. FYI the professors husband made those comments not him so stop blaming him and go read a book or get a degree like me and the other 4,000 students
You hear lots of stories from people that once attended hunter about the corporatizing of the college. You can see the President cutting down on the students served from the boroughs. At the same time we are being taught by grad students and less by seasoned professors. I studied at USC before this and the difference is stark. White students from the neighboring counties are being brought in and now theres less culture to the campus. Its more like an average cookie cutter school.The redeeming quality to this school are the different cultures that are here. People are incredibly nice and not pent up like at more competitive schools. Its obvious in the creativeness and openness you get in the environment
Onen of the best value colleges in New York City, New York state, and the entire United States. In a great area, awesome campus and surrounding area, and students are friendly. Some complain that its antisocial, but that is their own fault. Talk to people, join clubs! Hunter is a fantastic school!

It is a great school for Bachelor in Computer Science. I have never had problems finding jobs in the IT field since I graduated. I recommend it.

Ive had many good friends that have gone here. Ive heard only good things. Staff has helped them get through every aspect of graduating.
Overall, the education was more than satisfactory. While not a sprawling campus, social interaction is fluid and organic for the most part. Academics were taught by competant staff and successfully covered the subjects. Would reccomend.

Oh man, the administrative services... I was emailed and told that if I could not attend the upcoming semester, to just click a button and my admission would be deferred to the following semester. So I clicked the button, and thought I was good. Oh no, I go down to the school prior to the start of the following semester and was sent in circles from office to office, then finally decided to speak to a STUDENT (or just recently graduated kid) in the office. I told him what happened and he asked, Did you readmit? I asked, What is this readmit? Ive never even heard of this before. He said, Yeah, sorry, you had to do that. No one told me this. So I go to readmit, and by this time it was too late for that semester. Now I had to REAPPLY for the FOLLOWING semester the next year. I just went somewhere else.Bureaucracy and red tape kills it, everytime.
I used to think this school was alright for the price until I started working and realized how much easier the courses are at York College and QCC and how those people graduate without actually learning anything. If you goal is learn something, then the professors here are great, you will be challenged, and you will graduate with new knowledge. If you just want to graduate and learn everything at work, then you should consider York or QCC. If you are coming for the nursing program, do note it is very competitive and look into a back up plan (York College, New Rochelle, etc.) As for food, consider all your other options first.
Horrible service. They cancelled the most important classes that I signed up for, but I already took one (the most useless class of marketing, where I didnt learn anything new) and refused give me the refund for one class that I didnt need. I only had to take it because it was included in the program). So I ended up paying 300 for the class that I didnt need and that was a complete waste of time, because there was no useful information given. They just made us a task to come up with business idea and present it. People, dont waste your money. Its a horrible college
Office personnel are not helpful. Admin are not helpful. Advisors are not helpful. Security is not helpful.Basically, if you are a student and you have a question, nobody can help you. If you owe them money, they will find you. If they owe you money, they disappear.Go somewhere else. Please.
I went to Hunter and the Staff In financial Aid is the worst! Your basically on your own and the staff really dont give a dam about the students. I will advice others to run away from this school even LaGuardian Community college is better at least they are helpful there most of the time. RUN-RUN-RUN AWAY!

My daughter is a Sophomore at Hunter College . She finds it to be the best school she has ever attended. They offer so many interesting courses. She has learned so much at this school.
The administration had reduced my transferred credits from 2 years college, From 68 credits accepted originally as I was accepted into Hunter College. When I applied for graduation, I was short of credits by about 16 credits, I could not graduate and I had to quit attending Hunter. Even though, most of transferred credits were accepted by each department with approval stamps on it. Nobody listened even Higher Administration. Horrible and terrible school to go to. Definitely, inefficient, rude, uncaring, insensitive, lack of professional understanding, broken the contract without any compensations. I was a upper Senior at this so called school.The administration doesnt seem know what they are doing, when you call, switch you to this one and that one. The staff is rude and unprofessional, Its a waste of time to attend Hunter and they probably wont give you the degree like they did to me. Injustice and extremely unfair is to describe this unreasonable and unthinkable low down school.They need to give me my degree as I have completed everything, that is a failure on their responsibility, shame on them, shame, shame, This is the truth, and Jesus said know the truth and the truth shall set you free. I transferred as a junior and really love it here. The value is unbelievable. I like my professors and the student body is wonderfully diverse in every sense of the word. I found my professors very responsive. Like any school, Hunter has its pitfalls but I found that when I explained a problem to an administrator for the most part they helped me solve it.
You can not get a human on the phone in any department! I called the financial aid office and was put on hold for over an hour! Then I discovered that I was on hold so long that the office closed and I was still on hold. Over the week I tried to get through on the phone but was put on long wait times and never got through to the office. Very bad service, unhelpful. At binghamton University the experience is completely different there is very little or on automated service!!!! You are able to receive help over the phone immediately. I write this review in hopes that Hunter college will make improvements !!!
Great school with a great professors. However, some department advisors need more knowledge about the system and the program.
Some of these negative reviews sound a bit adolescent. Hunter provides a lot considering how affordable the tuition is. The administration can be a bit frustrating, as with any school. Be courteous and remember that, as with anyone, the nicer you are to them the more likely they’ll be inclined to go out of their way to help you.My advice would be to get involved with your program. once youve declared a major, your major department can open up a lot of additional resources to you.For those whove had such terrible experiences: not everything is handed to you! Get used to navigating through bureaucracy, fitting round pegs into square holes, and doing other peoples jobs for them because if you want to be successful, youll find yourself doing a lot of that in life. At the end of the day it’s your responsibility.
Avoid at all costs especially summer courses. You pay tuition to be treated like you dont belong. Although the school is cheap its cheap for a reason. Think of it as a 99 cent store education and environment
Basketball courts in the basement. And I mean deep in the basement. The courts are pretty nice though.
There use to be a standard that teachers had to live up to, because they have so much influence over students. That Matt Lasner SET out to follow a woman and her children to intentionally HARASS them, is cause for immediate termination!! If I had a child/teenager who was a student in his class, I would pull them from his class and this college until action was taken. This is HARASSMENT in its truest form!! This teacher needs to be fired!!
Gotta give love to this fantastic part of the cuny public university system. For all of the political problems it faces, Hunter continues to provide a great educational resource for students and researchers.
The teachers are pretty cool. The campus has gone from really bad to recently demilitarized. Barely functional everything, I’d rather use the bathroom in Rikers Island. It’s like every other administration in the city: driven entirely by empty metrics.

I have mixed feelings about this school. Although I and many of my friends attended it and had a great time, this is really dependent on what subculture you belong to. If you are a square, you will be bored.Let me break it down, this is a LARC / SJW school although most of the kids are not. It boasts 4 Communist and Socialist clubs. I had a great time attending Occupy Wall Street and other events during school. There was an area where students purchased weed from grad students. That area is now gone.Indeed life has really changed here because of the corporatization of the school. Last year I tried to take one of my buddies upstairs. Because he has a strong Brooklyn accent and came off as a community college guy, the front door guys were suspicious. Moreover, they put up 9/11 style security and scanners.This is because there was an anarchist vs communist riot here in 2011 and they ruined it for everybody because we had a good thing going on. I was denied beer from student government because I had been part of the old guard subculture and was considered a bad influence at the end of my tenure.
This College hires morons who are incapable of controlling their emotions to teach your children. Their professor chased down a woman and child in an airport near Christmas to verbally accost them. Then bragged about it on social media....what an idiot!! And you pay how much thinking your children are being taught by responsible, thoughtful professors? THANK GOD I WENT TO INDIANA UNIVERSITY!!!! Thankfully Mr. Lasner is not in a genetically reproductive relationship. Hopefully, the pairs defective genetic code will die with them.
They advertise for studies for people in the community and their research program and they dont follow through with what they say theyre going to do after you spend your time and open up your personal secrets and life details with them and I just dont think its appropriate the way that they lie and manipulate people and situations to get information and then they dont even do what they say theyre going to do as far as gift cards or cash incentives

Cheapest college in all aspect. Overcrowded, smelly, trashers all around. College is supposed to be a memorable point of your life, dont make it horrible by getting here. Choose another school, preferable around queens or long island. :)
Didnt get to attended, accepted months after applying and had to find out after calling the school 100 times. had to pay 100 dollars for enrollment and then when it was time to apply for classes, i had little to nothing to choose from. Lord knows the regret i feel, wasted a few months of my life in this money hungry institution.

DEFAULT ON YOUR STUDENT LOAN: If you are in the education department and are not already in the DOE, you should abandon the degree and default on your loan. Most of the NYC jobs are seriously part time, and the criteria of U rating is very random. The hunter education department doesnt train you adequately -principals will tell you this. FAIR WARNING. IT IS NOT A CAREER.
Hunter college provides students with an enriching experience that will last them their entire lifetime. The college hires the best of the best in terms of professors, who take their roles VERY seriously and provide students with an affordable, objective and amazing education. My only complaint would be the financial aid/bursars office, but that doesnt undermine the institutions academic capabilities. Please realize that many of the students that go here are low-income and that your reviews would be affecting their lives. The previous reviews SHOULD NOT be based on misinformation about what a professors SPOUSE said to Ivanka, but should be written by actual staff or students who know what they are talking about. Yall need to calm down just a bit, get off the internet, and go back to your Holiday celebrations. It feels pathetic even writing this review to get the colleges ratings back up, because of a group of people who are on a witch hunt. This is not the 1600s, but 2016. Ive gone to this college for a couple years now and I have to say I really enjoy being here. The coursework of most of my classes feels pretty understandable, but not necessarily easy and I always feel like Ive learned something new. Their are a few teachers with problem teaching styles, especially in the science courses. So make sure you read those ratemyprofessor reviews before attending if you like 90 percent of the students here are looking into pre med.
I am so ashamed to see a college professor act in such a unprofessional manner in confronting the president elects daughter. He should resign or be fired for acting this way in front of the children.Not only hers but his own. What example isbthat for young minds?

I went here for college classes during highschool. The school looks like a high school on the inside and feels like one too. People sit around in the hallways before classes and talk loudly. Atleast the class I took was easy. I wouldnt want to come here for a degree.

Im not sure why there are so many complaints here. I suppose people take a small negative aspect and turn it onto the whole school. Im a transfer here at Hunter, and I can say the process what fairly quick and easy. No pains or gains, nothing from their end anyway. As a junior transfer, I didnt get to have an orientation, but I didnt need one. The campus is fairly small. Composed of four buildings with subway connections and walkways connecting each building, its a very convenient school for commuters. When it rains, I dont even realize until I look outside the window. I never have to go outside! My professors were very accommodating and each one seemed to love the topics they were teaching. Im currently an English major changing to an Urban Studies major simply because Ive come to love the city so much more.A few downsides are the train traffic days on the 6 train, as well as the on going escalator construction. But I never liked escalators, so thats find by me. If you get to school an extra 10-15 minutes before you class starts, the elevators will do a fine job getting you anywhere.The cafeteria isnt one of those freshman 15 cafeterias. They offer more healthy options than not. They even have a great selection of Japanese food, my favorite being vegetable gyoza dumplings.The gym is also a great feature. They offer free facilities and even classes. I went to a HIIT training class to try it out with a friend, and was surprised to see more than 15 people attending the class! And it was intense.All in all its a decent, if not great school. You should come see it for yourself. Its conveniently located in the quiet Upper East Side, right off the 68th Street 6 train stop.
My friend Marcin’s friend, Shaun went to this school. His gpa was 3.795. I met him the other day and I have to say he’s a complete ignorant moron, just like Hunter teaches you to be.
Hunter is a senior college that specializes in the sciences. HC is an urban college in the UES of Manhattan. It has a high academic standard. Alumni 2006. HC is a big bang for your bucks💰...well at least back in the early-mid 2000. Lots of protest from students and professors backthen.Profs were good teachers and scholars. The downside is it doesnt feel like youre experiencing college life because of the urban setting and it lacks school grounds like a typical Uni/College. Oasis student services are good resource for students. Social clubs are just okay. The escalators are pretty cool but its always crowded and so does Lounge areas. HC Library is a 4 floor bldg and relatively huge. Bookstore is cool but small and prices are expensive. Shakespeare bookstore aint cheap either. Overall, I recommend Hunter from an academic pov.
This school was pretty bad. As a commuter school, making friends was quite difficult, and Im usually a very outgoing person. The overcrowded nature of the school made it feel like HS, and the administration was completly incompetant. Calling during business hours would often take 15-25 minutes to get an answer, and when you did manage one, it usually led to you being put on hold as you got transferred elsewhere, resulting in yet another long wait. Professors were a hit or miss, but most were extremely lazy. One professor promised a review sheet for a final exam then straight up forgot to email it, so he just gave us a large curve. I transferred out after a semester cus that place just got me depressed. Upside is it only cost me $10k a year WITH dorms which is hella cheap and I did meet some great people there.

Hello! I’m from another country and have finnished my high school there. So what I’m supposed to do to be a student at Hunter College. Some people told that I have to go for an associate degree before taking a bachelors degree
It is a great college with friendly people however when it comes down to the campus having decent and cheap food spots around its lacking. I cant really blame that on the school or anything, its just their location.

If I could give this school and its faculty 0 stars, I would they are the worst school I know of to attend, I had applied for the Spring 2018 semester in August and followed up in september to realize that the application was not even submitted. I than had to call the CUNY welcome center on more than one occasion to have them move my application for the Spring 2018 semester. I have also called Hunter College admissions office only to be told I would need to send in my high school transcript. When I had the transcript they told me it was already on file. This has stressed me to no end. So much so that I was worried I would not be able to take the classes and set up the schedule I wanted because of the unprofessionalism in this institution. The Assistant Director of Admissions reached out to me and insured that she could assist me and at this instance I no longer want to go here because she insisted it was not that big of a deal and I still had a week to have my information reviewed. Now it is the end of December and I have no response from the school! Will not recommend this school for transfer or any students whatsoever

All the negative complaints were true, especially when it comes to Financial Aid and other offices, but you have to realize this is a CUNY school, which means most of the students coming here barely pay a dime and therefore this is what you get when you pay cuny little money.Anyway, Financial Aid DID screw up mine and a lot of my friends, but we took initiative to get it fixed. Yes, we complained about it as we waited on lines, but after 3-4 visits to the Fin. Office, it was all fixed in a jiffy. Just be patient and deal with it, besides youll probably go through worst situations in the future.For a CUNY, this isnt a bad school, Id say it exceeded my expectations. Free GYM services with great free exercise classes, swimming pool, convenient subway entrance, if you are disabled mentally/physically, you can ask always Hunter to give you accommodations. The ladies bathrooms are always cleaned, and my professors were pretty great. The LIBRARY IS HUGE (cus this alumni couple donated $15 Million), and they also have separate buildings for theater, social work for grad students, etc. Hunter is known for Science programs (Psychology, Nursing, etc), but the English Dept is also excellent. The Humanities arent bad either. Just be proactive, and always make sure you are knocking down your general credits (be warned about the Language requirement).
Deal with you employees and show the rest of the country you enforce the code of conduct your college swore to uphold. Or you can hope the problem goes away on its own.
I got accepted to Hunter but after orientations, negative experiences with advisors and miscellaneous staff, I changed my mind. In my honest opinion, this school is probably the most overrated school within CUNY.

Good experience. Im taking a summer class at Hunter and they helped me so much. Im always late to things, so when I came in 5 min. before they closed I was worried i wouldnt get my application in. They were very friendly and stayed after their shift was done to help me and finish my application.
DONT GIVE STUDENT LOANS TO EDUCATION AT HUNTER;I was a student at Hunter and experienced a lot of bullying from the highest level of administrative officials at Hunter. Below is one example:I was asked to film classes I taught at public schools, but the filming instructions didnt work so well and I was bullied by the admin in the education building. This became a problem.Bullying includes directed comments in meetings from admin staff such as these below:1. [Some of you should not be here.]2. Ill be making so much money I wont need to even go back to teaching.-direct quotd3. [Just go back into your school and shoot the video of you teaching. (without permission guidelines).]4. [You are being a demanding person for asking questions and I would not recommend that you receive a license.] (recorded email printed and shown to the law offices of S. Kar***.)5. [I will not recommend you or evaluate you. No other person in your class has ever had a problem video taping their classes. ]6. [I can not certify you if you are a demanding person.]The Hunter employee evaluating my performance told me that he WOULD NOT RECOMMEND MY CERTIFICATION.(wo..wo..wo...wait a minute...The camera I was using to upload videos doesnt work and the students at the public school know this and did not want to be filmed anymore. The directions for uploading and making the videos are wrong according to a number of witnesses, and even the supervising teacher at the school didnt like the idea at this point.)This interaction above was recorded in emails. They were presented to an attorney.( A purple binder with 30+ emails was presented to an attorney.)But what was most stunning was that my DOE NEW TEACHER application received a RED FLAG. I received a RED FLAG on my NYC DOE profile. It was reported to every principal I interviewed with. Why???So maybe I am a difficult person-FINE!!! My evaluator doesnt like me and doesnt want t certify me- FINE!!! I dint ask for this.BUT DONT GIVE FINANCIAL AID TO A PROGRAM IF THE OBSERVING STATE EVALUATOR DOESNT WANT TO EVALUATE.**The reason I am reporting this is that I could not gain employment from the RED FLAG issued on my DOE account from many schools that were interested in me. Again, this is fine, but..DONT GIVE FEDERAL LOANS. THIS IS A WASTE.
Typical left wing hypocrisy. They sing about diversity and tolerance, but then refuse to tolerate those with whom they disagree. Professors who chase down a woman and her children in an airport ought to be fired. But on this campus, the guy is probably a hero.

I got accepted to Hunter college, and my first day there, non of the staff were helpful in fact they were down right condescending. They would not listen to me when i wanted to double major and did not believe that i was capable of succeeding buy taking these classes. although I was coming into hunter with my Associates degree they were rude about my transfer credits and kept shoving the catalog in my face. Everyone walks around with there noses in the air and i immediately moved to queens college after this horrid experience.

The most horrible decision in my life was to go to this college. Some of the professors are very corny and racist, the dean of the student is very rude and she is careless just like most professors. I attended Hunter for some classes post-high school during my gap years in between high school and college. My parents taught in the CUNY system at Brooklyn College (which, unlike Hunter, has an actual campus) but I overall preferred Hunter, as it was right in Manhattan. I was impressed enough by the strength of both Hunters Theater Arts and Film & Media Studies departments to make it the one CUNY school I applied to for my Bachelors when I was finally making my college application decisions. Taking classes there before applying was a REALLY good idea, because it gives you a more concrete idea of the college and what the experience would be like if you enrolled and went there for four years. It also connects you with faculty and the departments you eventually hope to work in throughout your undergraduate education.Theres Hunter history in my family as well: my grandmother attended Hunter back when it was still a womens only college. I took a total of twelve courses at Hunter over a two-year period, while working, interning, traveling and auditioning, and all the classes I took at Hunter and Brooklyn pretty much transferred credit towards distribution requirements for my Bachelors in Theater & Film which I ended up completing out of state at a private college. I took eight Theater courses (six of them were at Hunter, two at Brooklyn) and four in Film & Media Studies at Hunter as well (Hunters Film Department was much better than Brooklyns, where I only took one film course). One was on Israeli & Middle Eastern Cinema, which was an INCREDIBLE course!Another was on Avant-Garde Cinema, and two courses in Experimental Film & Video. I was impressed by how enriched Hunters programs in the arts were for a public college. I enjoyed how interdisciplinary Hunters departments in the performing and cinematic arts were (far more so than at Brooklyn), and SUNY Purchase (which also has strong programs in Theater & Film as well, and even an intensive conservatory program in Theater Arts) and Hampshire College (where I eventually attended college for my Bachelors degree) were the only other institutions that I applied to for my Bachelors along with Hunter, that facilitated nearly seamless study of both fields. Most other places had structured divisions between departments. NYU for example. Sarah Lawrence and Emerson colleges were some of the other examples of places that made you choose either/or, major/minor. Reed College also: very STRONG Theater Department, but no Film Program (though you can find options for working in film within the city of Portland, which makes Reed a viable choice). Yet, because these programs were strong regardless of that I applied and they rounded out my top choices. Hunter was in my top five, along with the four other private institutions, BECAUSE I felt it was such a strong choice and it competed with those same schools in terms of departmental and academic quality. People who hold assumptions that CUNY schools arent as good as private institutions are SORELY mistaken.One of my best friends from high school started attending Hunter during my second year of taking classes there (Fall of 1992). She was studying Nursing, and she absolutely LOVED Hunter. When I went away to school in Massachusetts the following year (Fall of 1993), she was just moving into the Brookdale Campus residence for her sophomore year. And I completely understood why. Its a very dynamic college. And the price tag is FAR LESS steep than private colleges offering the same level of education as Hunter does. Hunter was the ONLY CUNY school I applied to, because it would have been the best place for me to be to study what I wanted to, at the maximal value. Other than where I did end up going for my degree, Hunter was ABSOLUTELY in my top five choices. I just really wanted to go to college in New England and have a different kind of undergraduate experience. She was ALWAYS a friend that I would hook up with when I was in the city for whatever reason and Id always ask her: How are things going at Hunter?

I got a letter from Hunter, and they say my son is eligible to join them, I wouldnt want to make a mistake, my son is very good at math, I dont know what to do, son, hes in sixth grade.

2022-01-24*Just a review of the physical location/campus.*A huge, rambling, campus. Twisting and turning, both horizontally and vertically!I had a positive and helpful exchange with a security guard in the visitors center--she helped direct me to the 110 69th street location (which is beautiful--though covered in scaffolding! Lets hope for a lovely reveal in 2022).

2020-09-27Amazing college. They gave me a second chance. At my previous college, I failed and dropped multiple classes and had a very low GPA, but the Admissions Office saw potential in me and believed in me, and I was able to transfer here. Now in my senior year, my GPA is a 3.8!If it wasnt for Hunter College, I wouldnt be where I am at today. There is a reason why CUNY, with Hunter being a flagship, is called the Ivy League of the Masses.This college is also a great value for the price, and most of my professors are extremely passionate and the courses are quite challenging.If you are looking for a commuter school at a great value, this is the school for you. If you are looking for the typical college experience with dorms and frats and a big campus, then NYU, Columbia, Stony Brook, etc., might be what youre looking for. But Hunter has that stuff too, just more low-key.The only downside is that this is a commuter school so most students just go home after and it is hard to make friends, but the ones you make are awesome. Also, the bureaucracy and administrative stuff can be overwhelming and archaic at times. And it is it a little run-down and needs renovation. But honestly, I dont even mind because the culture and vibe of this school is awesome.I also like the support network as well, and was able to get a practical Work-Study job related to my field, a part-time job with CUNY Tutor Corps at a middle school in Chinatown, and was also able to be a part of and have internships in amazing organizations like Teacher Opportunity Corps and NYC Men Teach. Shout out to Kenny Robinson for getting me an interview at a prestigious school, and my professor Virginia Russell for getting me an interview and an amazing job in my field! There are many others I need to thank as well.

2020-02-25It’s a pretty good college among all the CUNY schools. It’s the main campus of Hunter College, the other two big campus are in uptown(for social work major ) and east village(nursing school ). The library and classrooms are nice. However, the office services are really bad, and some people who work there are not nice, sometimes they’re really mean!!!

2021-12-26I would give this school a 0 if I could. Similar to some of my fellow classmates, the college never responds to my emails. I can’t get in touch with anyone. My counselor Nikole Feliciano is rude and has a horrible attitude and should not be working at the school. They are not allowing people to take online classes! THERE IS NO SOCIAL DISTANCING IN SCHOOL! People are getting sick left and right! This should be reported because it’s a serious issue!!!!!!
