Hunts Auto Service in other cities:
I am very happy with the service I received at Hunts Auto! I went in with some non-descript transmission issues. I was nervous because I know transmission repairs can be expensive. The people there were friendly and approached the repair in a conservative, replacing and cleaning what needed to be done but not recommending extra things. My car ran SO much better after I picked it up. They worked quickly and texted me as soon as my car was done. I was also pleasantly surprised by the price. Would definitely recommend.
We were sent to Hunts years ago for transmission work, and have never left. They always do their best to get our cars scheduled in a timely manner, the work has been excellent quality, they dont try to BS us, they explain every issue, and prices are fair. They are also friendly and knowledgeable to communicate with.
Very happy with how they treated my mother. They let her know she just needed new tires, not other repairs, and could get the tires elsewhere at her convenience, rather than trying to push her to buy. Then, told her no charge for their time, which included road testing. They are friendly and honest.
Excellent and honest service. Ive been going here 3 years after terrible experiences at other shops in Ithaca (including one that put the wrong oil in my car, one that didnt do an oil change but charged me for it, and one that claimed they performed an alignment after putting new tires on my car but clearly didnt). Hunts gives an accurate estimate, never recommends anything that doesnt need done, and lets you know if you can safely delay a repair. They diagnose issues accurately and prices are fair. Definitely trustworthy. Be sure to schedule your appointment early as they are usually booked a week in advance. They have a new Slaterville location too that is smaller but is also convenient.
I was visiting from out of town and had a piece of plastic underneath the car that was dragging. After stopping by, Rick was able to put the car right on the lift and quickly fasten the plastic (in less than 10 mins). Best part is, I wasnt even charged! A hometown, busy, reliable garage like this can be trusted without question. Great customer service, if I find myself in Ithaca again with a car issue I will head back to Hunts no question. Thanks again, Rick!
Hunts Auto repair is a 5 star auto repair shop hands down!!!! Everything about them from customer service, knowledge, professionalism, absolute honesty and price is top notch!!I’m a parent of a IC student who’s car broke down on campus his first day back. Tim hooked us up with a great towing company (Ryans Towing) who had my sons car down to Hunts within a hour. Hunt’s top notch mechanics went to work on my sons car, diagnosed it, and repaired it within 1 day!!! My son and I could not be any happier with Hunts auto repair!I absolutely recommend them for any auto repair work!! The best in Ithaca!!
Amazing people, great mechanics and amazing customer service. I has some issues with my car which caused it to need a head gasket replacement, they were super apologetic and got it done less than within a week. They also provided a 1 year warranty with the repair, whenever I go there I always feel like Im being treated respectfully and I always feel welcome there. Definitely recommend these guys!
Ive gone to 3 different shops since moving to Ithaca and Hunts is the best in my experience. My neighbor recommended them and Ill do the same for anyone who asks. One shop nickel and dimed me; another just didnt have knowledgeable people; and the dealer wanted to do a $395 repair that Hunts quoted me $250 for, but they said it wasnt needed yet. That was two years ago and still no need for the repair. Hunts saves me money, does the work that is needed and does it the right way with no problems.Update:I ask a lot of questions and make a lot of special requests. But they just keep putting up with me and making me happy with the way they treat my cars. I never saw such people. They repair what is necessary; they are the most honest auto repair people in town; and they do a great job at keeping customers highly satisfied. What is wrong with them? They are giving car repair places a Good Name! Dont go any where else. Hunts is the the best garage.
I drive a modified car and I often feel hesitant bringing it to non-specialist shops. Being new to the area too, I didn’t know which shop to go to (dealership was not an option for me). These guys had the highest rating. I must say they lived up to it. I had some very particular requests for them that they followed perfectly, and they got the car back to me and it was flawless. Not only was it done so well, but friends I have who work in the industry were not able to spot the paint work. Will definitely be going back here and highly recommend for all types of cars.Price was affordable. quality was great. And timing was awesome.
Hunt’s put in a used transmission. When we got the car back there was ZERO front differential oil. Had we not thought to check this, our second transmission would have been ruined. HUGE oversight. They also did an inspection and completely overlooked a brake light being out. Seems as though they have some technicians who are not competent. Will NEVER bring a vehicle here again.
One of the worst car mechanics in Ithaca.i took it for a transmission leak and I pointed it out to them and they still fixed the wrong part. When I tried telling them they fixed the wrong piece they told me that was the problem which wasnt. They also tried telling me they didnt know about the leak when I told them thats why Im here for. I know they knew about the leak because when I got my car back the first time my front grill wasnt even put on right. They charged me 2 grand for a messed up dented transmission. After I told them about it they told me it wasnt their problem and they WONT do anything about it. I have a warranty for the transmission and they still wont do anything about it. They screwed me over big time. I would not recommend anyone come here. I took it to another mechanic and they told me all the problems that it STILL had and hunts wouldnt do anything to fix it unless I paid them another 1000 which I dont have. Dont not go here!!
Always great service. These guys will tell you what is wrong with you vehicle, what has to be fixed right away and what stuff that can wait. They dont try to find problems that are not there like other service places. For example, we where getting ready to go on a trip to Tennessee had a recall for the radio on the vehicle we were taking dropped it off at Maguire. They calls us and said they had to red tag the vehicle because of the brakes. I told them I would be right down to pick it up. I ran it over to Hunts told them what Maguires said, with in 10 minutes our vehicle was in the shop getting looked at. The findings were what I had expected nothing wrong with the brakes on the vehicle. Thanks to all the hard working guys at Hunts. Ive been going there for 30 plus years hopefully Ill make it a nother 30.
My son and I arrived here early in the morning and were immediately greeted with a smile. We were helped right away by a very nice gentleman. He solved our problem and explained how we can fix it ourselves in the future. Fantastic experience, and very quick turn around.
Theyre honest and efficient and have competitive rates. Theyre very busy, which is a good sign in a town with so many garages to choose from, so you might need to give them a little time to work. If you drop the vehicle off after hours, they do have a key drop and if you leave those keys with notes and a dollar range, theyll often get it going ASAP.
Stellar and Honest Operation. Rick and the crew are top notch. Ive brought my car in a couple times with noisy brakes and Hunts cleaned the dirt and soot off the brakes and let me know there wasnt an issue - no charge. Honest, great work, good down to Earth customer service.
These guys are great. After being ripped off by other Auto shops around Ithaca, its nice to finally find an auto service company which really does care about your vehicle. My MINI Cooper 2005 had a head gasket failure, they were extremely apologetic since they knew how much it would cost. They were friendly and they did an excellent job on my vehicle. The turn around was amazing too, I brought it to them 6 days ago and they fixed it, baring in mind it needed a new Head Gasket and new exhaust fitting too. i really cannot recommend these guys enough, if youre looking for an auto shop that wont rip you off, then come to these guys.
Hunts does a great job of diagnosis and repair, communicating and working with the customer to find the best solution for individual needs and resources. The only downside to their excellent service and great reputation is usually having to wait a week or so to schedule work, although the work itself is always done very quickly. Really cant recommend enough.
WOW..amazing service. Had a issue with my Jeep recently and it was just out of warranty. The service advisor Kurt first recommended we go to Jeep directly since it may be covered under warranty. Not being from Ithaca, I was not expecting honest service (we rarely get that here in NJ). Turns out repair was not covered by Jeep but I happily had the repair completed by Hunts. Its comforting knowing that there are still trustworthy mechanics out there who do quality work.
A bit pricey, but they never tell me to get something unless I really need it. Great customer service and very nice workers. It is my local shop I take my car to when it needs servicing. I have owned four different cars and brought each one here to be serviced and they handled each car with care and professional know how.
I sort of used these guys twice and was never treated more rudely in my life. The man who took my keys the first time didnt listen, talked over me, and - well - really didnt listen. He informed me that they have a standard charge of $99 if you have a check engine light - which I did. It turns out I had a cylinder that was misfiring. It took them 5 hours to call me to let me know. They quoted me the price for a tune up. I called an Audi dealer (they are notoriously expensive) and found that Hunts quoted price was higher than even the dealers price! I called back and declined the repair and they offered to make a smaller repair that should fix it which I had them perform. When I went in to pick up my car, he desk guy handed me a list of items needing to be repaired on my car and was, again, quite rude. After reviewing the list closely, I realized it was comprised of recommendations to replace hoses and belts, power flush the radiator, and get a tune up - all maintenance items; not repairs. Yes, they tacked $99 onto my bill for the check engine light (which diagnosed in 2 seconds the fact that I had a misfiring cylinder). But older cars like mine do need to be maintained to keep them running well, so I held onto the list. When I was ready to have one of the listed items addressed, I again called Hunts and made the second appointment. I do believe in second chances. When I arrived at Hunts on the day of the second appointment, I was informed that their Audi guy was out on a scheduled vacation but they would have someone else look at the car. He also mentioned I would most likely still need to bring the car back for the scheduled maintenance because only the Audi guy can work on an Audi. Isnt that why I made an appointment? Shouldnt they make appointments for Audis when the Audi guy is actually going to be at work? Why do they need to look at my car when all I am asking for is to have the hoses replaced? He did mention there would be a charge to have my car looked at although they would be performing no work. Of course, I just left. So ridiculous!I found another mechanic right down the street and took my car there. I asked for the same service (hose replacement). After looking at my car (no charge), the new mechanic came out and told me he would be happy to perform the service but he didnt really think it was necessary at this point. He suggested another service which actually improved the performance of my car and saved me money. And he wasnt rude! Never going back to Hunts for anything. Ever.
This is the only honest shop in the city of Ithaca. Good prices and courteus staff that knows what they are doing. I had a check engine issue for my vehicle that turned out to be a stuck valve. Most shops would replace the valve for the extra money but hunts was able to get it unstuck without replacing saving me a good chunk of money. Not a lot of shops would do that. They have done similar work honestly for me and others that I know for years.
The guys at Hunts are friendly, caring, professional and reliable. Ive been going there for 10 + years and they have never done me wrong! This is the only place where the work has come in under the estimated price, more than once! They are also great at explaining the problems for automotively challenged people like me.
This is probably the best car repair shop Ive been to in my entire life. Rick (the owner), is extremely helpful, very professional and courteous, and the repair was done faster than anywhere else (had the rear passenger tire wheel bearing, brake pads, and caliper replaced). Price was cheaper than anywhere else too. Highly recommended.
Took my car in for NYS inspection after making a reservation on the phone. Everyone I spoke to was courteous and friendly. My power steering fluid seems to be seeping out, but not an all-out leak. They could fix it ($500-$600, they estimated, since my car is old and there are some rusted/deteriorating parts), but they thought it could wait a few months. I appreciated how they didnt push me into a costly repair that could wait. (And if the seepage is slow enough, maybe itll be even more than a few months!)
Hunts is THE BEST! In all the places I have lived I have never had such honest, friendly, and experienced staff. I know my car is in excellent hands at Hunts. I would recommend them to anyone looking for an exceptional auto service experience. Thank you for everything you do!
Called and got a quote for $250 to fix my vehicle. Turns out I misdiagnosed the problem and they ended up fixing it for $150. Took them less than twenty-four hours to get it back to me. Ive only had one experience with them but it was definitely five stars. Highly recommend this place.
This review is for the Penkse rental only (I never had a car serviced at Hunts). The staff were so friendly and helpful. I had to call ahead with several questions, and the staff was kind and attentive on the phone, and always answered me clearly. When I picked the truck up, the person who helped me was very patient as I learned how to use the trailer. He helped me set my mirrors correctly, gave me driving tips, and answered any questions I had.Preparing to drive such a big truck (26 feet) with a trailer was nerve-wracking, but I couldnt have asked for a better rental experience.
This shop needs to learn what customer service means. My daughter had her vehicle towed there to have it fixed after an accident; they lied to the insurance company saying nothing was wrong with it but then admitted they had not even put it up on the lift to look at it. Then they told the insurance company they did not want to fix it but never told her that, the insurance adjuster had to tell her that. I would not take my vehicle to that shop after this experience.
Hunts costs are always fair. More importantly, they never pressure me into doing work on my car that I cant afford or dont feel that I want to do. In the end, if they say something NEEDS to be done, I trust them. They get my business because I always walk away feeling like I was treated with respect. Great business!
After having bad experiences with local shops from google searches alone, i finally went around through word of mouth and arrived at hunts.what an awesome shop!!i brought in my vehicle to have an overall oil change, transmission flush, brake flush, belt change etc...brought all my own parts and they had no complaints at all. charged me only labor, which is also very reasonably priced.i had an european car so in the end they couldnt change the belt because they didnt have the necessary machine but i understand that perfectly. they did inspect my current belt and said nothing was wrong with it.what an awesome shop. id recommend hunts to all my friends.check my other reviews if youre curious about who to stay away from. im just glad i finally found a reliable shop after 4 years in ithaca.
Honest, reliable, fast, friendly mechanics. Good at explaining what is wrong with the car and what options there are regarding fixing the problem or possible repercussions if left unfixed. After a few disappointing experiences with other local mechanics before Hunts, I would never take my car anywhere else
Convenience, friendle, professional.I took my car to their shop on a Saturday. This day they open half day from 8 am to noon. To make an appointment I used Facebook messanger where I explained my issues. They answered my message quickly. You can drop your car early after 7:00 AM to get a number. I got number six and had an estimate by 9:30 AM. Job was done by 11:00 AM. Changed both back roters and pads for a very decent price. Have not had any issues since then. Price was very competitive.

2022-07-05This place was one of the very few places I thought I could trust to work on my bmw in Ithaca (because too many others torqued my wheels incorrectly), until they gave me back a crooked steering wheel after the alignment after replacing the lower steering shaft this time. I went back on the next morning, they did not even apologize, were not willing to fix it instantly, but mocked me at supplying my own parts (which are always OEM I obtain from Germany). I really did not want a quarrel.By the way, the reason why I supply my own parts is simply I know the source of the parts, and I have a membership with the supplier. And if I bring my own parts, it is usually easier and quicker so that my car spends less time at the shop when I daily drive it. Price is another factor, true. Last year I wanted them to quote on a set of struts, they quoted 1900 and 11 hours of labor. Later I brought the car to NYC and had all done at a bmw specialty (who work on all M cars) for less than one grand.Again, you agree to use customer supplied parts, I agree to pay a premium for the labor 150/hour by the way). You cannot laugh at customers for not being to “afford” the markup. That is not how you treat customers.Yes, eventually they were able to fix it, but my morning time was wasted, and I had to take Uber twice (40 dollars). And they still never said one sorry for this all inconvenience. If you were able to fix it quickly, why didn’t you do it right the first time?I tend to believe some of the mechanics here are competent. As I said, this shop was the first one who followed bmw torque specs. However, it has become a hit or miss. I hope you can improve.

2022-05-27Came in with a worn out clutch. Had Hunts replace it and machine the flywheel. They turned it around in 2 days which was great.Only problem is now in 3rd and 4th gear the truck buzzes. I brought it back in and they told me that it’s not a transmission part so it’s not their problem despite creating the problem. Still buzzes to this day.

2022-01-28I almost broke down 200 miles from home. I was referred to Hunts by a local. They put me at the head of the line and moved heaven and earth to obtain the part I needed. They drove me to a hotel and gave me recommendations for restaurants. I recommend them without reservation.

Theyre the reason I keep coming back. They also give it to you straight, which I respect a lot. They dont jerk you around on prices/costs.Ive been to a couple other car mechanics in Ithaca and Hunts Auto is by far the best! I always recommend my friends take their cars here!!! And you should too!

2022-04-08Clean and professional. Just moved to the area and it’s always sketchy trying to find a good mechanic, however, I have found my new go to mechanic shop.

2021-11-15I got a nail in my tire the morning I was supposed to head out of town and no one else could even promise to get me in to fix it within a day. Hunts let me come in and had me on the road in under 2 hours with a repaired tire, and saved my bacon. They were inexpensive, efficient, and extremely helpful, Ill definitely be using them in the future

2021-07-20Dropped my car off to have a piece in the engine fixed, picked it up and there was a broken piece on the exhaust. Was told that it would cost +1000 to fix. Got it done for a couple hundred elsewhere.Had another issue with my brakes pulsating, was told it was caused by tires that were treaded unevenly and blown out struts. They fixed the struts, Mavis fixed the tires. Neither solution fixed the brakes and they kept trying to push other ideas.$90 diagnostic fee is also absurd. They are nice on the phone and willing to talk you through what’s going on with your car, but I think you get nickel and dimed.
