Ichiran in other cities:
They specialize in Tonkotsu Ramen and it’s the only entree on the menu. It was super delicious and I liked eating in the solo booths. The wait wasn’t long to be seated but I got in line 15 minutes after it opened. Definitely worth a try!The Tonkotsu Ramen is pork but I believe they have a vegetarian option that’s not listed on the menu but I’m not for certain.
Best Ramen broth in NYC! It’s an experience you don’t see your servers face it’s all through this window cubby situation. The point is to enjoy your soup with no distractions. You check off what you want and they have what’s popular there to make it easy, go for the package deal the egg mushrooms etc. your not supposed to tip , everyone is really friendly. This is a must in nyc!
A unique, ultra efficient dining experience topped with some d*mn good ramen! The full, deep flavor of the broth…the bouncy fresh mouthfeel of the noodles, the sweet-spicy Red Dry sauce…oh my goodness! Highly recommend this spot for a solo meal, or small group more focused on good food (the seats are in a cubicle style and aren’t conducive to close socializing).
I went to this fine establishment earlier today (June 21, 2022) and the line outside was not too bad. Before coming to this location, I went to the one on 42nd Street and they had an even longer line. It took about 15-20 minutes of waiting to get inside. I ordered the Classic Tonkotsu Ramen and it was delicious. I also got a Calpico drink (canned). They will hand you an order form outside while waiting in line. You can customize toppings for your specific ramen bowl. The spicy red sauce was not spicy at all (I personally like spicy food, so I got the second level, but your spice level may differ). The environment was very clean, individual booth style seating (where you give the server your order form). The food was excellent, albeit a bit more pricey/expensive since they are a no tipping restaurant. Around $30 for my order plus drink was not too bad, money well spent. After you finish, you take a card with your table number up to the cashier and pay that way (cash or card). I will definitely be coming back for more!
When I was in Japan, I went to Ichiran every week. I loved it so much. So when I found out they had one in New York, I had to go. From the moment I sat down in my solo booth to when I was served, it all took me back. Went on a Monday around 1:30pm and no line. The ramen is delicious and I love that I can control what I add to it. Thank you bringing me back!
One of the best ramen places I’ve been in the city. Definitely a no-frills kind of spot. Line outside was really long on a Sunday evening (probably waited about an hour). I expected it to be packed once we got in but the seating was practically empty. I assume that was due to a staffing shortage. Would definitely come back but perhaps not on a very cold day.
Great place to eat ramen. Service is quick as everything is made to order. The only down side is having to crack your own egg, which is uncommon at other ramen places. Still, a great experience and Id recommend this spot to anyone looking for a womderful ramen experience.
Hands down the best ramen place in NYC.Been to so many ramen places in the city but they have the best broth.I feel like it is little pricier if you were to get extra noodle and the toppings but it will fill you up nice and warm. I think it is worth it to upgrade your bowl.I highly recommend to get a clove of garlic along with extra sauce & fatty broth. By default, the order sheet will recommend to have everything in medium settings.Cozy, highly recommended place.
Stopped by for a visit tonight & this place is definitely one of the top highlights of my trip! The staff is very kind, friendly, & patient with new visitors. The ambiance of the restaurant is clean, calming & refreshing. I had the vegetable ramen with scallions, mushrooms & their famous red spicy sauce & balsamic vinegar. The flavors were perfectly balanced & the broth had me wanting more! I’ve seen a few reviews complaining of the price when this is a “no tipping” establishment. Considering how they don’t let you tip, the prices are certainly fair in my opinion. Definitely a must go whether you’re visiting or are native to the area. Ichiran made me want to pack my things & move here.
Im on a trip in New York this week and had to add in my ramen hunting experience. If youre in the search for something authentic and miss those small late night ramen shops in Japan.. Ichiran is the place for you!Youll notice the interior is a no nonsense decor, but highly functional. Private booths where the screens pulls up and mysteriously serve you reminds me of the ramen shops Ive been to in Tokyo. Booths are kind of small but cozy once you get settled in. Dont expect much conversation if youre in a group because side wall partitions separate each customer. Its perfect for the solo traveler.Ramen :5/5Tonkotsu broth ..very rich and savory. I got the noodles extra firm but would probably go one step lower to firm . The broth needed to be hotter to soften the extra firm noodles a bit. Egg , chasu , green onion were served separately..which was a nice touch. Noodles are not the curly kind you are used to seeing..they are straight. I love them and has become my fav kinda noodle recently. NoInterior : 4/5No nonsense ..private one person booths. Youll feel like youre in Japan. Nostalgic..props to the team maintaining that cozy vibe in New York. Kudos !Tip:If you usually still feel hungry after eating ramen ..order an extra serving of noodles( called kae-dama on the menu) . It got 1/2 kae-dama. You can press a button at the table to let them know youre ready for the 2nd noodle serving.
Been here twice now, and it is definitely worth the hype. there was a long line, but the wait wasn’t too bad despite the amount of people. my party and i were quickly seated together after choosing our preferred options on our individual menus, it was easy to pick and choose what we wanted. luckily the panels in each booth come down, making it easier for you and your party to eat and enjoy together !the ramen and broth was made exactly to my liking, and extremely filling. i especially enjoyed the matcha pudding afterwards, as it was light and fluffy :)definitely coming back for more ~
They do, do this, one dish really well. Loved the atmosphere. Didn’t know Japan was no tip, that’s wild. But that means they probably charge more for the food but that’s okay because everything was really good. I appreciate how they keep things moving and the wait isn’t crazy. However, I felt like towards the end of the day, they compromised curtain aspects of the dish as they are just shelling them out to go home and that’s totally understandable. Like my friend, he orded 5x spice and that was not spicy at all. But besides that, would go back foresure!
Absolutely delicious! Staff were very courteous and pleasant to talk to.There’s a self-serve water station in the middle as well as coat hooks at the bottom of each individual boot. The broth was extremely flavourful (I chose the light saltiness option) and the chashu was tender. Highly recommend!
This is my ideal restaurant set up. Private booths, simple menu (with vegetarian options!) and great service. I was so happy with this experience, i’ll definitely come again when i have a solo day. The food was also phenomenal. I ordered the veggie broth and it was very yummy. It can be vegan as well as long as you don’t get the red sauce. So they have options for everyone. I was satisfied with the standard serving of ramen, but you can also ask for refills of noodles.I wouldn’t recommend coming during peak lunch hours (12pm) because there was a line outside around this time. I went to some shops nearby and came back about an hour later and got seated right away. So just a warning, but honestly the food is worth any wait.
I thought this was a great experience! It was cute and fun! My boys also enjoyed it! We all had the pork based broth, which was yummy in our tummy!! The price is a bit on the high side, but really what isn’t in NYC…what matters is that it was good to eat and enjoyable to experience. I really enjoyed eating in my own little cubicle type section and someone just opening up the window and giving me my food!! I got up and got myself some water from the water machine. I did order the matcha pudding and that was sooo delicious. Not knowing how much food would come we ordered the extra side of noodles. Only myself and my husband ate that, the boys had enough with the portion that came in their soup. I came here on recommendation of a friend that had brought her daughter for her 16th birthday. I’m sure we will come back again, my kids already asked when we could go back. There was a wait when we went, I think we waited about 30 min, so mentally prepare for that. The wait was worth it though, no complaints here. The staff was also super friendly! Overall a 5 in my book!
Experience overall was positive but felt it didnt fully live up to its hype.Ramen was good but not sure Id say is hands down best ramen so Id say is comparable to other good places Ive been to.Got the ramen with the recommended set.Plus is they make it very easy to customize your order. What I didnt like was the cold egg which had the shell on. Dont think I can think of another ramen place Ive been to that has needed me to do that...
There are two locations in Manhattan. This one is closer to our hotel so we decided to go to this location. I tried Ichiran in Japan and the experience and ramen is similar except that the price is almost doubled. I got extra cha shu and an egg to fill me up more. Didnt get the noodle refill. The egg was cold and later gave me some stomach issues. Other than that, it was fine. The second time I skipped the egg.
Still my favorite ramen place. First time after pandemic. No compromise in quality. You can configure your ramen however you want. This is unmatchable by other ramen stores. I like the exact medium tenderness of noodle and slightly more than medium spicy, in a beautiful and fragrant pork broth. The taste don’t fluctuate from time to time - everything seems to be timed. If you have more time, I recommend a beer to make the meal more refreshing. Also add green onions and wood ear to make it taste less fatty. Download app to accumulate points.
One of the best Japanese cuisine experience I’ve ever had!!! This is the kind of level I expected from NY. The broth was so tasty and the ingredients felt fresh and balanced. The noodles were great! It was a little bit more spicy than what we expected but it was awesome!
Very unique experience at Ichiran. I asked for recommendation from my hotel for a Ramen restaurant and this was their first choice. The set up of the restaurant was not what I was expecting at all, however the food was delicious. Very very tasty Ramen 🍜 I am a soup and Ramen fan so I would definitely return🥰
Must-try! As a specialty restaurant, Ichiran focuses on tonkatsu ramen with adjustable options to fit it to your own taste. Filling portion. Toppings come on the side. Personal booths which makes a perfect solo dining experience, especially for those that are always uncomfortable talking to waiting staff. Theres usually a line so be prepared to wait! A no-tipping establishment.
A very unique Japanese style restaurant, with 50 individual slots for customers to sit and enjoy their ramen. When you enter the restaurant, they hand you the order menu based on your preference of protein or veggie. Once you sit at your counter and figure out your Ramen order, you call and get to talk to the server, standing on the other side of the wooden window. The Ramen itself is pretty delicious too. The breathe is excellent. The noodles is okay for me, as I prefer little bit softer ones. The $5 topping set is a good add-on, if you like extra ingredients in your Ramen. To me, the soft boiled egg was the best topping out of all.Because there’s NO TIP, prices of the items little bit higher than their competitors.Food taste - 5/5Food prep time - 5/5Service - 5/5 (No tipping)Price - $$$$
Interesting experience. Wish there was an option for a variety of toppings on the ramen included in the price (seaweed, soy-marinated egg, etc.) The broth is very flavorful and the noodle texture is great. They are very efficient, the ramen bar is an interesting concept. Overall, I do recommend the ramen. Although I do feel like the pork can be a bit more tender. Very pricey, it’s about $16/bowl (without anything extra). Though it is a no-tipping facility.
I have been to the ichiran in tokyo and the one here comes incredibly close to the original. i ordered their tonkotsu (pork bone broth) ramen with the recommended toppings (chashu, egg, seaweed, mushroom, scallion). they give you the option to customize almost everything about your order including: noodle texture, broth thickness, spice level, etc. they use the thin straight ramen noodles which pair perfectly with the thick broth (as it soaks up and holds the thick-flavored soup), and the texture was near perfect for me. the broth is very pork-forward in flavor and is very thick/filling (collagen filled). i’d highly recommend checking this place out as it stays pretty true to the ichiran found in japan; however, there is almost always a line outside, so i would come at a less busy hour.
This place does not disappoint. The ramen was delicious, and the broth was amazing. The standard Tonkotsu Ramen and Recommended Toppings Set ($18.90 and $5) are definitely enough to fill you up. The soft boiled egg is always the highlight of the meal. If you want the best broth, follow my recommended settings: medium dashi, extra rich, a clove of garlic, with scallions, medium spicy, and firm noodles. Medium spicy was not spicy at all, so if you want that extra kick, Id recommend more spice. There is also a no tipping policy. The grapefruit sake was also very delicious.
Tastes very good. There was a pretty long line at around 1pm on a Thursday. Waited for around 40 minutes. The food was pleasant but not the best ramen Ive had, especially at its price. I would say its more for the experience then for the food. The matcha pudding was very good however.
So happy that Ichiran has made it to the US! The quality of ramen is among the best Ive ever had; the broth, soft boiled egg, noodle texture, all on point. However, I cant get over the exorbitant cost! The most basic ramen starts at $19, so if you want seeweed, chashu, soft boiled egg, ANYTHING, youll have to pay for add-ons. So after-tax (no tipping policy) its actually close to $30, by far the most Ive paid for noodles. You can probably get 90% the quality elsewhere at 60% of the cost.
Its soo good like any Ichiran across the world would never never disappoint. The fact that its very customizable and you can click the BUTTON to be served should be the standard instead of trying to seek attention towards your waiter. You can also take down the barrier so you can eat with your friend. You can also ask for EXTRA noodles if youre finish your noodles and have brooth left. And NO TIP (in most countries tipping is not a thing because THEY actually pay their workers higher wages unlike in North America)
This is surely one of the best places for Ramen in NYC. The whole concept is unique and is worth experiencing. The place is compartmentalized for Solo Dining Experience.I tried the Vegetarian Ramen with Nori Seaweed, Scallions and Garlic extra(Though now I feel that it’s not absolutely necessary, just plain ramen with recommended toppings is great). The Broth was amazing, complex flavors coming so well together. Noodles perfectly complemented the broth.Plain Broth is mild but flavorful. Spice level can be chosen (level 1-20). My suggestion is to try something between 5-7 if you like spicy. It makes the Ramen spicy but still keeps little flavor of the Broth itself. The staff was very friendly and the place was clean. Worth visiting this place if you’re visiting NYC!
I really enjoyed my time here, this was a new experience for sure. I wish we had more establishments like this all around the city — it really feels like a portal. The place is pretty popular so sometimes theres a long wait time to get in OR you can just walk straight in. Its a first come first serve type of situation.
I have been a costumer for years. Out of all the ramen places I have tired out it is the best. I have taken so many people here and they have all loved it. If they sold merch I would be walking around with it because I absolutely love their ramen. It’s the best food to get especially in winter. It’s a great place for special occasions or just when you want to eat alone. The service is amazing and fast. The line does tend to be a long wait but I wait as long as possible because it is completely worth it. I strongly recommend trying it at least once in your life!
Ok, this is my 2nd time trying ichiran. The first time was back in 2016 in Japan so I dont remember anything about it. I think it was good but not that special.Actually, it was my mom who craved for a bowl of ramen so we finally chose ichiran as it was the closest from where we were. As you can see, the rating is also very good, sounds promising. We arrived at 5pm and we waited for almost 30 mins which is okay.Oke, first thing first was the menu. They only have one menu which is tonkotsu ramen. When I googled it, I thought the price is 17 bucks + tax (which is quite expensive already). But it turned out to be 20 bucks + tax!!!For me, even in New York, I think 22 bucks for a bowl of ramen is a bit too much. They also charge EVERY SINGLE THING AS AN EXTRA (CHILLI, GARLIC, SCALLION, ETC.) Well, I tried to stay positive as I imagine that the portion would be enormous as it is in general in the US.Well, it turned out that it is just a normal portion of noodle with 2 THIN SLICES OF CHASHU!!! Ok ok, I still try to believe that it would be the best ramen broth I ever tasted in my life......and it was not..... Im not a big fan of their noodle either as it was sticky and starchy.Btw, I ended up paying almost 90 bucks for 3 bowl of ramens + condiments 😬For comparison, in my country, a bowl of a very good ramen + FREE condiments would cost me not more than 8 bucks. I think the basic price of ichiran in Japan is around 10 bucks.Well, Im not here to compare anything. But, ichiran is surely my biggest disappointment during my visit to the US.
Im a New York native trying some of the ramen spots in Manhattan. Ichiran is famously a tourist destination but we gave it a try a few weeks ago.The seating at this location is only in booths. When you declare your party, they Tetris-sort your group into into adjacent booths, you might be able to talk to your closest neighbor, but the fast-dining eat and go component of Ichiran is certainly there. The menu is short and simple, the ramen has some customisability. The basic set is ~20$ and comes with noodles, scallions, garlic, and sliced pork. The broth, ramen, and spice was very good. You can really taste the pork-bone meaty broth and it tasted very clean. I prefer the ramen extra firm as it makes the texture and bite more substantial, like al dente. I got most spice you could get before paying extra, and it was surprisingly very mild. It imparted flavor to the broth and the components of the ramen rather than addding plain heat. The next time I would probably get less spice as it sinks to the bottom, making that last bit of broth you want to drink very granular and spicy if you are unable to tolerate heat. One slightly disappointing part was the sliced pork. It felt very thin and not very substantial. It was leaner that I expected, and visibly very pale. Of course its unfair to compare American-to-Japanese standards in regards to portion sizes. However the existance of the Yakibuta made the standard pork slice less impressive compared to what theyre capable of. It was much thicker (standard was maybe 1/8in vs the Yakibuta 1/3-4in thickness), charred and fatty in the right places. It came with 3 pieces and I savored every bite with my ramen. For the full experience I also ordered the ~10$ matcha pudding and ~10$ premium Yakibuta described above. The matcha was very clean and creamy with glass jelly on the top. It was refreshing and cleansed the palette, but I wouldve guessed the price to be closer to a 4-6$ tops dessert. It was a nice experience (being served in the booth format), but we started waiting at 5pm on a Monday and it took nearly 90mins to be seated. It was worth a try to experience the format and ramen.
One of my favorite ramens in the city! It is a bit pricier than other places (a bowl is $18.90 and its not as big; additional toppings are ~$3), but super flavorful and you can customize how seasoning, noodle thickness etc. do expect a wait! It took us 40 min for 2 people (we arrived ~6:20 on a weekday and by 6:45ish they already cut off their line)
Booth seating, 1 stool per booth with around 50 stools. Orders filled outside while you wait- around 30- 45 minutes. Menu is based on Tonkutsu ramen with optional toppings. Ramen can be customized by firmness so is the heat. Expect 45 minute wait outside. Ramen was good but the broth was great so was the hiden no tare sauce. Instructions on how to make the most of the fare are posted in each booth. Worth the experience. As in Japan, tipping is not allowed.
For a ramen spot that is hyped up, has only one thing on the menu, and has a hefty price tag of $25, it was very underwhelming. The broth itself was nothing special; just like any other tonkotsu broth. The soft-boiled egg was unpeeled so we had to peel it ourselves which I thought was kind of weird. On the plus side, the meal was plenty filling and the experience of dining in a traditional Japanese-style ramen shop was fun.
Waited for 45 mins outside at a cold, windy night, but was worth it. A little more expensive than average ramen places if you add the toppings(tonkotsu, scallion, egg..), but you had the option to choose the hardness of the ramen, the richness and saltiness of the soup, which was awesome and can suit different people’s preferences. I liked that you didn’t have to face the waiter/waitress at all and they just open up the little window to pass over the bowl and cups (a very Japanese idea that allowed single individuals to eat by oneself and not to face any judgements from other people about eating alone) and could just eat and enjoy the ramen quietly. I love to eat alone and although I came with my friends, I would want to come here alone next time to experience the original “intention” of this restaurant.
The customization options for how you get your ramen is unparalleled. From the firmness of the noodles, to the richness of the broth, this place will make it exactly how you want it and for that, it has my respect. The broth was amazing (I got max salty and richness) and the noodles were exactly how I wanted them. The only problems I had with the experience is that if you get the standard add-ons, they give you an unpeeled soft boiled egg where I expected an ajitama. That was probably the most disappointing part of it all. The pork was also just ok, it was too thin and a little dry as a result. Besides those things, the ramen was phenomenal.
Wait time is around 30 mins and maybe longer during peak hours. The line starts in front of the entrance and continues after the parking lot next to the restaurant. Its a dynamic and well organized wait, dont get discouraged when you see a long line. Itll worth the wait! The seating arrangements is very unique here. Every guest will be seated in single booth with only you and your noodle(s), the point is to maximize your precious moment enjoying the ramen itself without distractions of people next to you!5 Stars for comfortable of dining out experience during this special times! They will have a detail form to order your noodles, fill everything according your taste and your noodles will perfect.5 Stars for great food and delicious taste! My noodle details:Firmness: MediumRichness: RichSaltiness: MediumSpicy level : 2Garlic : 1/2 cloveScallions : YesAdd $5 popular add-onsKae-dana : fullAdd another 1/2 portion of kae-dana for my lil one who finished every slurp, super yummy even we shared the broth.**for the restaurant, please periodically check on restrooms cleanliness, especially during peak hours.
Cool decor and ordering process, and had I not eaten Kame a few nights earlier, this might be a 4-star review. The tonkotsu soup base was very good, but not as good as Kames top-notch broth or Tenkas distant-second in Richmond, VA. It might be a half-step below average in Japan, which is still much better than most Ive had in the US.Where Ichiran fell a little short was the noodles-- they tasted more like Chinese Yi-mian, which are amazing for Chinese dishes, not so satisfying for ramen. The chashu was run-of-the-mill as well.In all, not bad given the lack if ramen options in my hometown.
Adorable place. And the ramen is so good!! Its customizable food and a super fun and unique place (for New York). Also, there is no tipping/tips are included, so thats nice for both the workers and you! Everyone is really nice too! There is often a bit of a wait so be prepared for that.
One hour wait on a Saturday when my friends and I went at 5:30 PM! Not bad at all.I totally misread the instructions and over-ordered. I don’t recommend getting the $5 topping set unless you’re super hungry. The egg was the best part of it.I loved the chashu don! The sauce on top of the rice was SO good.
Ichiran has perfected the Tonkotsu (pork broth) ramen and no other place comes close. They have a unique ambience with their famous “flavor concentration booth” - a Japanese style booth were you are given you’re own space to savor their flavorful ramen.Ichiran will transport you to Japan and make you miss traveling even more.
#Very unnecessary text waiting list policy. Why we need to wait for 30min when there is more than 50% available seats? #We used to eat Ichiran almost every other week and what we love about Ichiran is how efficient and convenient it is. We could be seated and we could order as soon as we get here, just like what Ichiran is like in Japan and what it was like in New York. BUT currently, they have a waiting list, which is fine when there is no vacant spots. Today’s situation is that although there are more than 50% of available seats and no line here(see the attached picture) ,they still put everyone in the waiting list and asked us to wait at least 25min to receive the text notice.1. This is causing a Unnecessary crowd in the front desk while the inside has lots of spare seats!2. People could be seated immediately but because of the unnecessary waiting list, they will leave and wait for the text notice so the people behind them have to wait for them to come back.3. What are all the vacant seats for?Hope they could abandon the strange rule…..It’s Ichiran ramen !Shouldn’t ramen be something fast and delicious ?
I got takeout, so I cant vouch for the dining experience but the ramen was fantastic, broth was delicious. The menu is not vegan/vegetarian friendly because the broth is pork based, other than that you will not be disappointed. It was so tasty I would have eaten it out of a strangers shoe
Just the experience as advertised!Clean, efficient, one type of ramen (vegetarian/pork) so no fomo here, limited toppings, solo booth.Rich broth, fresh noodles cooked per your preference. I ordered 10x “hiden no tare” spicy stuff, and only regretted a little 😁Apparently that one job they were “given” was mastered.
Just not the same as Japan.Ichiran is one of the best, if not the very best ramen joints. Definitely our favorite. However, you can’t do japan Restaruant service in NYC. Yep, New Yorkers don’t have the same service mentality as Japanese. Just a fact. Here’s what I mean….we got there in the afternoon and over 75% of the restaurant was empty, but the cashier told us it’ll be at least 45min wait.So we waited and was called after 45min. But even as we sat at our stall, over half of the restaurant was still empty.Everyone was moving at slower pace and I guess they don’t want to sit more customers so they don’t have to work as hard???Also, ramen was good, but again not like Japan. Even after paying twice as much as Japan prices the broth, noodles, and the egg was just ok.Maybe it’s the best Ichiran can do outside of Japan.
Ichiran is probably my top saved locations since my first trip to NYC. This review has been in the works for a little over a year or so. Im glad I finally made it to Ichiran Midtown location, despite the visit still during the time of Covid.Ichiran brings the authentic atmosphere of eating ramen noodles in single booth style. Making it feel okay to eat by yourself, rather than having to eat with others. Interior decor is reminiscent of Japan and includes signage/banners to match. When you enter, youll be greeted by the staff who are very pleasant and friendly. Theyll help answer any questions you have, get you or your party set up, as well as, take your order if youre looking to just do take-out. They ask that all guests wear a mask upon entry, take temperatures, and keep social distance as best as possible. The entryway is rather narrow and cramped, so expect to wait outside if theres no more room. Seating is currently limited to 25 guests, this may change so look for the sign on the door before you enter.Menu is very friendly and easy to navigate. Everything you need will be inside of a zip lock bag, which is a menu and pencil. You select your choices of flavor and spice levels. Theres pre-circled choices for what they recommend, but feel free to choose your own. Theres drinks to choose from as well, such as Japanese beer and soft drinks, even some tea choices. I went with the iced matcha green tea, includes syrup and cream.Amongst the ramen Ive had in Atlanta, this is comparable to one of the best Ive had in a long while. Noodles were fresh, broth was rich and filling, pork well cooked and the additional toppings added for more flavors. After finishing and even drinking all of the broth, I was not overly full. I was satisfied, the most Ive been with any meal in a very long time. Its the kind of meal you always want to have. One where the portions are just right and after finishing, you dont feel too stuffed. Perfection.Safe to say that Ichiran is one of the best ramen spots Ive been to in NYC. I know there are others to try, but if any locals or visitors are in the area. Definitely stop by here and give it a try. Itll be on my list to revisit during my next trip to NYC. Thanks for the meal!
Too expensive for mediocre ramen. The service and experience was great, but the ramen was fairly run-of-the-mill, and we ended up paying over fifty dollars for two bowls. Not fully transparent about prices, however I love the no-tipping rule; it indicates that they pay their employees enough to not need tips to survive.
This is my first time here and I will come back for more. Best ramen! You eat in your own little booth. Every one has their own booth. The ramen is fresh and made to order. You get to customize your ramen (saltiness, amount of oil, option for green onion and chashu, etc). You can also add on items like soft broil egg, extra chashu.
Simply awesome and a unique dine-in experience. They serve just one preparation- Tonkatsu ramen and they do an amazing job at that. Also, they do not take tips which very unlike North America. I wish they had one in Toronto but when I visit NYC again, I will make a point to go back.
This is probably the best ramen I’ve ever had. The broth is really rich. The noodles taste amazing. If you love spicy food, I’d recommend getting a spiciness level of 7 or higher. I’ve been here numerous times and the staff are always friendly. The only reason I’m giving it 4 stars is because it is kinda pricey. But overall, I think it is worth it. Definitely try this place if you haven’t!Just want to post an update:Me and my husband has still been going here occasionally. It’s still our favorite ramen place ever. Service has remained consistent throughout the years. Sometimes there could also be a long wait time, some days you can just walk in and there are tables ready. We’re always happy whenever we eat here!
This location is stuck up compared to their other locations. I’m not sure if it’s because of the area or because it caters to corporate clients/ideals but I noticed a bit of coldness in the customer service. Waited for roughly 7 minutes just to get acknowledged on a weekday afternoon (2pm). One star off for that. Making a customer feel welcomed is very important in providing customer satisfaction.Other than that, it was excellent, high quality ramen, that is Ichiran. I waited about 20 minutes from ordering to receive my dish. Not bad.In conclusion, I’m not too sure if I’ll go out of my way to this location again because of the lackluster customer service.
After having this ramen I have no words. Just eating this ramen in your personal little booth will be like in a world of your own. Every bite is just magnificent that you will engulf all of it once and trust me one bowl will not enough after having this once you will need the refill of noodles. The customer service was perfect and they get you your food in no time. This tops even your top ramen spot.
Service: Despite arriving at 4:30pm, we had to wait in line for about 30 mins. At first we thought the restaurant was packed even at this hour but we saw at least 10 people exited the place without taking new people in. There was a curtain between the inside and the waiting area so we could not see how full the restaurant was. I grew a bit impatiently so I took a peak through the curtain and saw that the restaurant was basically empty. One of the employees approached me and told me that I cannot look inside. I believe they do this so the restaurant would appear to be busy all the time at the expense of having their customers wait. I was upset and decided that I would tip them less, only to find out that they have a no tipping policy because they already included tips in their price 😅Food: very mediocre and the portion was very small. Would not come back here.
Hey Ichiran, you better give us Loyalty Certificate. THIS IS OUR MOST FAVORITE RAMEN PLACE. We’re here almost every months for 3yrs!! We first tried the one in Brooklyn (and there’s still no Herald Sq, and timesquare during that time. So we need to go all the waaaaay to brooklyn just for our ramen. Good thing they already got 2 other branches) little pricey but its worth your money!! When we have a friend/s who visiting NY, this is the place we always telling them to eat! 😋😋
Weve had the privilege of visiting Ichiran at a couple cities in Japan, and have to say the New York locations maintain the same high level of quality. I cant remember pricing, but the NYC pricing does seem very high. Sure, they may be doing that to pay staff better as there is no tipping. However, still hard to fathom a boiled egg (that you have to Peel yourself) costing $3. Price aside, the quality is really really good. If you can handle spice, I recommend getting the spicy broth. Nice kick, but still maintains the tonkotsu flavour.
Unique experience and a restaurant that cares about covid safety. The service and ramen was wonderful, although I wish I got mine spicier. I have had many restaurants with ramen and left unimpressed but this gave me an Anton Ego “Ratatouille” moment. Seriously felt warm in my soul after this ramen. If you’re in NYC this is a must.Tip: If you like spicy food I got the 3x and it was not spicy at all. Don’t be shy
Authentic ramen experience almost the same way you’d get in Japan (minus the ticketing system). Service was polite and courteous, and the ramen was absolutely delicious. The broth was flavorful but not too heavy. Firm noodles got softer in the broth over time. The spice mix added an extra kick and the chashu was well cooked with softer fatty bits ingrained. Overall the experience was fantastic
Most amazing ramen 🍜 in NYC.Ordered to-go, and now wonder how it tastes right away. (Took 1.5h to get home 🏠)Well packaged. Everything in individual container or bag.Only point of concern is main paper bag. Was worrying whole trip that bag may rip apart. If ordering to-go would recommend to bring your own large bag to carry ramen goodness home.
A good bowl of ramen, but not up to the level of Ichiran in Japan. Kind of pricey for what it is too, but I guess thats NYC.The hours show that it closes at 7:30 PM (Thurs), but my wife and I arrived around 7:10. Initially, we were told they couldnt seat us. There were only two parties (6 people total) ahead of us. I asked the server to relay to the manager that we walked a long way, very quickly, to get there, and only then they were willing to accommodate. If thats normal practice, maybe it should be disclosed that last seating is 7:00 PM.
Worth the hype! I went by myself twice on a week night and there was a line during peak dinner time. But the line moved really fast! They actually check your vaccination card which is great because a lot of places dont actually follow that procedure. The ramen was SO amazing and totally worth just going to try if you are a fan of soup noodles. Because this is a no tipping restaurant, the ramen itself is pretty expensive. If you want the ramen with all the recommended toppings, expect to pay around $26 per person. Pricey but for NYC its not that bad.
If you have tried the one in japan or in hong kong before, then this one in nyc is going to be a huge disappointment. 100% not recommend. If this is your first time, then you are lucky you havent tried the real deal in the stores in asia, coz this is worse than store bought ramen.
I recommend extra spicy. The broth is too heavy by itself and the spiciness of the paste helps cut the savoriness of the broth. Overall, it was a great experience. The staff was helpful and friendly and the food was fantastic (but seriously you need the spicy paste). I got the ramen with extra noodles, eggs and chashu. Chashu was really soft too.
Friend brought me here. had the best tonkotsu ramen i ever had! fully customizable, recommending to add the value topping add-on. atmosphere feels like youre eating inan authentic japanese restaurant. i got too excited to take puc before i ate my food. guess just try it yourselves.😅
My son came from Atlanta specially so that I can bring him here! As robotic and singular, awkward this may feel, it is a great experience. Different, fun and delicious. It was hot inside and the music too loud, but food was great and service too. I will personally will go back for the vegetarian option. Def recommended it. If my Blank pink girls, Naomi & Skrillex like it this is for all of us.
I would say at least try it once. For the experience, for the decor, and finally for the food. It is not cheap, there are better place and with better price then this (-1 star). Noodle is decent, the sides are a bit lacking. The portion is small (-1 star) and be ready to order the extra noodle. Try some places near st. Marks.
Layout (private booths) and food offers was very similar to Japans restaurants but instead of paying at a vending machine at the front you pay at the end of your meal. The amount of noodles are the same as well. There are two broth choices - tonkotsu and vegetarian. You can order drinks and extra food at their order slips before, as, or after you eat. We went on a Saturday evening and their waitlist was so long they had to stop taking names an hour and a half before closing time. All of the servers and staff were sweet the entire time I was there. You can also purchase their noodles to-go or packaged! I recommend this place to anyone if they have the cravings for Ichiran or love spicy ramen noodles (not the spiciest but you can intensify it past x10!)
Place: Its small in the counter but pretty spacious in the dining hallway. Its also neat and gives you privacy, go here and youll know what I mean.Service: The service was so nice and straightforward. It was packed since its already lunch when we went so people already in line. We waited for 30mins and get a sit and served immediately.Long time no see/taste to one of my favorite ramen! It was so nice to sit and eat again in Ichiran. This restaurant in NYC reminds me so much of Ichiran in Tokyo and Naha. Theres some differences at some point like the bowl, chasu, the servings and the side dishes.Yet, am so glad cos the staff were most Japanese, the way how they serve was so similar in Japan so you will get the Japan vibes. So glad to taste it again!
The ramen was overpriced. Waited in line for 20 minutes on a Thursday afternoon. $21 for the classic one which only has noodles, scallions, and two tiny pieces of chashu pork. Experience was fun but will not visit again for the food quality. I had other much better ramen with lower costs.
The taste is not as good as in japan but close.Update; 4 years later, I am in NY again and it becomes very pricy. $20 of a ramen itself. Added the topping for 6dollars. Additional thick chashu for 10 dollars (just soso,). However the match pudding was a boom. So good. Creamy and tasty.
This place goes to viral on Internet and I tried its new opening around Penn station. For the price, if you choose its recommendation, it is about 23.95 plus tax, it is pricy but one good side is that it does not ask for tip; for the service, the food is quick but you never have any interaction with waiters because of the curtain in front of you. A good place for dining alone and for those not good at small talk; for quality, you can customize everything of your ramen, I like the noodle to be soft and you can do that. It is a plus. Considering all these factors, I give it 3 star because I still think the price is a little high.
Over priced! However, this is an at-least-try-it-once place. Both the service and payment experience are quite unique. Going to a food place, obviously the food is the most important thing, not the small eye-catching tricks. The noodle is high quality ganshui noodle. Everything is very good but it doesnt live up to the hype. Its definitely an experience in NYC ramen scene.
They are doing takeout and a vegetarian option! The vegetarian option is packed full of flavoured. Delicious. The meal is beautifully packaged and while the broth didn’t look like much at first it was enough for a kaedama (noodle refill). They have two bubbles for outdoor dining but even take out was an awesome experience.
Last night ate at Ippudo NY... to my great disappointment... Nothing like the Ippudos in Japan Id been to, which became my fav Japanese ramen chain while traveling in Japan.I started googling for high rated ramen shops in the area - to my delight Ichiran came up - I actually vaguely recalled a Youtube review (Strictly Dumpling) of Ippudo vs Ichiran... never actually went to an Ichiran in Japan tho!My hotel is 5 blocks away so I walked & almost walked past it lol. I was confused looking at the store front bec its quite loud in contrasting colors (bright red & green) & patterns (Japanese letters) - not typically what youd see in Japan & the interior is in the same way like a big bright flag waving around lol.I arrived after 1pm so there was a short line, waited about 5mins or so. I was given a small sheet of paper, directed down a hallway & told booth #2. I took my jacket off & hung it behind my booth on the coat hook. The tissues box hanging next to the coat hooks were super convenient - my nose always tends to run eating a good hot soup & being chilly out.The booths are tiny & the stools are quite hard (metal), Im only 55 & too tall to eat comfortably on the stool in the booth (definitely hunched over). They asked if 1st time & I said yes, they said to fill out the paper provided & press the call button when ready. I picked the Classic Tonkotsu Ramen ~$19 with all the recommended settings circled + a Soft Boiled Egg ~$3. The server read back my order & provided my payment square to take to the register when I was done. In prep of my meal went to the restroom to wash my hands - the 12 toilet paper rolls really threw me off... I guess it was supposed to be like art work next to the toilet ? Lol, last pic posted...I saw some1 else get up and get water from the somewhat hidden black water dispenser so followed suit & selected hot water. My egg came out early so I followed the cute instructions & prepared it for my soup. And then the soup came out, in this black majestic box. I tried the broth by itself & it was stunning - rich & warm without being too salty - out of this world. I then mixed everything together, split my egg & added it to warm up. I happily ate up the noodles, meat & egg. I had to restrain myself from taking down all the broth too but I ordered a Kae-dama (noodle refill) ~$4 - I wanted something actually just slightly more firm so betw the regular & firm but they said they couldnt do that so gave me firm - & also ordered the Matcha Draft Beer ~$9.My solo neighbor in booth #1 left & they cleaned out his booth & started to do the same for mine, which was strange & alarming. The server/cleaner finally asked if I was done with my broth & I said no I was waiting for more food (youd think they would have some sort of system so theyd know that back there !?) so he confusingly put the #1 Payment square on top of my #2 Payment square (you can see it in 1 of my pics) - at this point I wasnt sure if that was to cover my updated order or for booth #1... well luckily several mins later the neighbor came back looking for his #1 Payment square which I handed to him & he apologized. I told him no worries. (It was not his mistake that the server was incorrectly assuming I was paying for another patron... that wouldve been on the server & register folks if they were letting people out without paying). The firm noodles, as expected, were a bit too firm for my liking so I let them soak up the broth & heat for a bit which made them better. Honestly, I was not impressed by the Matcha Draft Beer, at 1st it was a super light green tea flavor which became heavier/a bit more bitter as you drank it = not my cup of tea 😉. I shouldve gone the safe bet with an Asahi (my fav Japanese beer) or a cup of sake.Yes its expensive for ramen but youre in NYC & pricing was comparable to Ippudo NY (at Ichiran tip is already included in the pricing + its MUCH better quality & flavors). All in all highly highly recommend this place for any1 that enjoys ramen... or soup! I will def be back!! 👍👍
Ive only been to Ichiran on Japan so when I found out it opened in NYC, I knew I had to try. The pork was definitely a bit too dry / lean but the soup and noodles and everything else were very authentic - even the waiters bowed and spoke Japanese when they could! When I went, they had a coupon for free refill of noodles so that was a steal! $18 for ramen is very steep but its a no tipping establishment if that helps.
Came here Thursday lunch around 1:15pmIt was long long line. The waiter came out and tell us there will be 20-30mins wait. But after I done eating there is no line at all. So try to avoid lunch time!Love their new junako box ramen. I kinda forgot how heavy was the round ramen bowl. But I feel this one is much heavier. And it keep the noodle soup warm for pretty long time. You can customize your noodle. From the firmness of the noodle, richness of the broth, how much garlic, scallion and spicyness. You can choose what you prefer.I personally like rich broth with more garlic hahaha. Also you eat like inside a small booth. So you dont have to stare a stranger while eating or waiting your food. Perfect to come alone as well.I remember their matcha pudding is amazing as well, but I was pretty full this time. Hope will get it next time:)
Im so happy they have a second location available now closer to the Manhattan/Chelsea area! When we went on Sunday around 11am it looked like there was a crazy long line but it was for the brunch place next door so dont be fooled by outside lines just go in and check. Good thing we didnt leave because they had plenty of open seating when we arrived! It is relatively new so the facilities are super clean. We were seated immediately and you are presented with the menu. On the day we went we were offered a coupon for a free noodle refill. This coupon is well worth it especially considering how much the ramen costs in the first place I got most if the recommended options with the exception to the garlic(I went extra on that)Food came out quick and it was awesome!
Theres nothing bad to say about Ichiran besides the price but its well worth it the fatty broth was thick and spicy that i scoop my bowl and drunk it in one go. I love the single stalls its a privacy between you and your ramen as you make love to each other, slurp it hard and loud because its heaven sent.
This is an experience. The dining experience is very anonymous. You never have to see your server and they never have to hear or see you. Its just like Spirited Away or Aggretsuko. Even the toilet paper is arranged in a Japanese-humorous way.The food is yummy. The tonkatsu soup base is very rich. The sheer quantity of food seems to making fun of American consumerism or corporate America. I fell for it. I took the free first noodle refill. This is the fullest Ive ever felt. Sake choices are nice. I really felt like I was at a Japanese noodle place for a fast lunch during my work break.Single stalled gendered bathrooms available with walls of toilet paper to choose from.
It’s Ichiran! I love it because it’s consistent; the most consistent ramen chain I’ve been to in terms of broth and noodle texture. I always customize mine to have the right flavor and it always arrives hot and perfectly spiced. I do not enjoy their new bento style “bowls” but it doesn’t take away too much from the experience. This Ichiran has a nice water dispenser and plenty of hooks to store jackets and bags. The booth seating wasn’t very cramped, they spaced it out more than I’ve seen the ones in Japan spaced. Took a friend for her first time and she also loved it! No surprise, would return again.
Oh, my God! First time eating proper ramen. I loved the seating arrangement due to the fact that I was out there for business so I was by myself. The one person booths remove you from having to awkwardly look at other patrons. The food was delicious. The broth was steamy and full of flavor. I added the seaweed and the pork along with some powder and the end product was so good, it had me ordering seconds of noodles.
Broth was good, but not the noodles. I tried Ichiran twice before, in Tokyo and NYC ( The one at Times Square ). Both were a good experience. However, this time was a disappointment. Maybe because of COVID-19, the store used another type of noodles for us, instead of the one I used to have. The noodles were very soft, it tasted like instant noodles. Not the chewy one I used to have. I also remember the ramen I used to have in Tokyo didn’t look like this.
What a delightful and unique dining experience! I was super excited to try Ichiran in NYC after hearing about how famous it is in Japan and how it was a Michelin-star restaurant. I ordered the Classic Tonkotsu Ramen and it was incredibly delicious. The broth was so rich and heavenly! I even received a free noodle refill on the house. My bill came out to about $25 USD, only to find out that the tip was included in the price - an additional pleasant surprise. We waited about 30-40 minutes to be seated, but the food and experience was definitely well worth the wait. I would highly recommend visiting, especially if youre not from around NYC!
Came here with a friend (which maybe wasn’t the best option because you get to sit in individual booths, but we were enjoying the food too much to talk anyway). The entire process from lining up to payment was a breeze because of the efficiency of this restaurant. While the food is kinda expensive, it is totally worth it (also the restaurant is a no tipping establishment so it kinda levels out). I would definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone who is in search of a warm, hearty ramen
Ichiran tables are set up as single seats with dividers in between so that people can focus on the food. The food is brought out from behind a small curtain so you also cant see the kitchen, chef, or waiter. Because of this, I wouldnt suggest going with a large group.. Unless youre stuck with a bunch of people you dont want to talk to. Service is pretty good. Ramen is not as good as in Japan and more expensive. An extra soft boiled egg was $2.90. Total was $56 for two ramen sets, one with extra meat.
The most delicious ramen have ever tried in my life, only have the seat for private seat, can help you enjoy the ramen your own. The soup of the ramen is super delicious, flavored but not feel oil, the egg and the pork belly is also maginificant. Will definitely come again next time to NY
Expensive but worth it, the Ramen noodles and broth were a whole experience on their own. Love the private seating style but still close enough to enjoy dinner with someone. Only dropped a star because for the price it could have had more toppings, even extra scallions cost more and an egg costs almost $3 ro include.
I been to alot of ramen spot and this one was unique! It truly follows a Japanese traditional ramen service. You get your own booth and the instructions of how to order is clear. The ramen is amazing and even better if you get more noodles. Great place, great vibe. Also, they dont accept tip.
Best Ramen in NYC! Simple and absolutely delicious tonkatsu. They say they close at 8pm but last call is around 7:30pm, and theres a long waitlist. We got there at 6:45pm and they almost didnt want to put us on the waitlist because they said we probably wouldnt be in by 7:30, but we were able to get in last minute. So be prepared and try to get there early as seating is very limited due to Covid right now.
This was my first time at Ichiran and it was pretty good! The seating is single booths only and there is only one ramen dish on the menu. It was easy to order and pick out what you want in your ramen. I know there’s several in Japan but I did not go to them while I was there. Biggest downside was the cost! I realize it was New York City but be prepared to pay at least $20 for one bowl of ramen without adding anything. I was spoiled by the cheap ramen in japan but I still recommend thus place if you want some authentic Japanese ramen!
Have been to the ones in Tokyo many times and really wanted to try it here in NYC, especially when it is right next door to our hotel. No lines at 10am. Well, at double the price than Tokyo, it didnt taste twice as good, but it was still just as good, though the broth, very flavorful, might just be a bit thinner. The pork slices tasted a bit more porky, not as good (different pig source 🤔). Noodles were all dente, excellent!
Great ramen fast service. The individual cubicle type seating is new for me but I think it facilitates quick dining. My party of two didn’t even have a wait to get seated. The food was delicious. A bowl of ramen works out to about $24. This is a no tipping restaurant.
It’s great place to go if you want to experience the authentic cubical setting, but the ramen is far from its Japan standard. I personally not a fan of the bento shape bowl, broth is thicker then the Japan version. Overall still a good bowl of ramen but not worth the cost if that’s what you looking for. You are paying for the experience. Ps- you also don’t pay up front with a vending machine, rather, you pay as you exist the booth area and pay at register. There is no tipping allowed. Make your own noodle at home package is 3 for $29.
The broth was excellent 5/5 but the toppings was sub-par. The noodles were fresh and cooked to what I specified but it was less than normal. For what you get, I felt the ramen was over-prices and you can get better ramen at lower prices elsewhere in nyc. Still, the single person booth is an interesting experience.
This is the best ramen Ive eaten in the USA, hands down. Having been to Japan multiple times, I find myself comparing the quality. The atmosphere is also very Japanese with the solo booths, bowing staff, speaking japanese phrases. Even the entrance/exit is on the left-side. You get a paper menu to fill out what you want. It can be more on the expensive side but if youre looking for delicious ramen, this is it. The pre-fix has everything youd want for a meal including a delicious dessert.
Fun experience but not the best ramen and considering that is all they do is one item I was surprised. I also think it was very expensive. I had a soup and an order of a side package extra for 5 dollars, vinegar and a tea, my bill was 33 dollars?!The broth was good but I have had better Tonkotsu at Ippuddo and many other places. Noodles were very good, made in house. It was disappointing as I had heard it was very good.
Broth was mediocre at best. Flavor was flatter than most ramen Ive had. Although Ichiran is Japanese, this one in NYC did not come close to any ramen I had in Japan.Overpriced. Much better places for cheaper. Also, I appreciate the Japanese phrases, but since most servers were American, it made it a little awkward.
Best tonkotsu ramen!!! Only one dish on the menu which shows you how serious they are at perfecting one dish. If it’s your first time I recommend getting the combo set so you can try everything they have. The medium flavor can be a little salty for some people so I’d say go light if you want it lighter. And light on oil too if you have never had this creamy of a soup. Self serve water. Solo booth. No tipping! But if you go in group I’d go during non-peak hours. It takes a long while to set up seats for a group if you want to sit next to each other.
I mean look its legit. The noodles are the star because they are so so fresh. Always get at least a half kae-dama as a result. I also liked the mushrooms a lot and the scallions cut against the broth well. I think spicy is the right level for those who can take spice. Dont go higher; youll lose the point, which is the noodles.
This Ichiran outlet definitely retains the authenticity that got me hooked in Japan. Waited about 40 mins with the length of line pictured and was pleased to enjoy the signature combo of service, food and convenience. Only downside was price (abt 20 bucks for the standard box) and the wait. However with the incredibly long business hours, I am tempted to come back for a breakfast ramen in the future. LOVE THE NO TIPPING POLICY.
The whole experience is so good. you have your individual cube where you have a button to call people. when you sit in the cube, youre provided with a paper with the menu choices that we like and press the button to call them and they will deliver your food. even their bathroom was clean. although its a bit expensive
Yes it is a chain, yes there is always a long line, and yes it has the Japanese-style solo dining layout which may not be entirely suitable for everybody (especially if you are on a date and just want to look at each other intently) but that all aside, this is hands down amongst the best Tonkotsu ramen spot in downtown NY. Super good broth, noodles cooked just the way you like it, with extra sliced Kikurage mushrooms, Tonkotsu egg - IT IS the ramen spot I will return time and time again, even if it means eating by myself which honestly, is rather therapeutic and comforting given the solo dining layout. Who needs a date when you have Tonkotsu ramen?!
Unfortunately this was the worst ramen I had during my visit in New York. It honestly did not live up to the name/hype. Something is different with the quality control here/perhaps for my particular visit. My usual order tasted drastically different to the other Ichiran branches Ive been to and loved. Id normally get an extra portion of ramen but I didnt this time. Its a shame.
Interesting concept. Pretty good ramen and they specialize in exactly one thing. They have one type of ramen and you can only specify the add ons. So its super helpful for those that have trouble deciding.Matcha flavored beet is interesting but not game changing. Also not the most conducive to group eating. All in all its fun to do once but there is definitely better ramen in ny.
Loved the atmosphere, service and food! They had a promo during the time that I went so I got extra noodles for free!! It was a very different experience, I wasnt really sure how to order so I asked the server and they were able to explain everything to me at my window in front of me. 100% recommend if you havent gone to the one in Japan.
We are vegetarians so we ordered the Veggie Ramen which was extremely delicious ! I also ordered an Asahi Draft Beer and a Matcha Pudding for dessert. The entire experience is worth the waiting line. If you are hungover please go with level 3 spicy, you will get out of the place feeling renewed. They also provide their own self serving free hot and cold water.
The ramen was delicious cant wait to go back again. I had classic tonkotsu ramen with seaweed in the ultra rich broth and the matcha beer. You can get the ramen with out the spice but I would recommend at least getting a half it does enhance the flavor of the ramen, I like mine spicy so I got level 4. Really nice place was just a little weird but fun talking to friends over the divider
Surprising solo dining booths, good ramen. The place is unique in its design as it is a double row of solo dining booths. You basically sit in a booth and there is a little bamboo curtain in front of you for the service. You order by filling a form and you can also re-order with an other smaller form. The food is sinple but good and the ramen stock as a deep rich flavor. The ramen were cooked to perfection. You even have a hook for your handbag. An original, fun place with good food.
This was the first time Ive bee. To a ramen place that was separated like they do in anime shows. The ramen was to die for! I would come back by myself or with another ramen lover. They are good with answering questions. Water is self served in these black mini cups. Hooks for everything(2 under the table, hooks behind you) and there is more than enough for the available seating. Its pretty quiet in here. There is a bell that goes off which is pretty quick to get the service to you. Everyone has individual attention which makes better for service. When your done eating you take this wooden board with the number on it to the front of the restaurant to pay for the food and its pretty hassle free. It seems like they get busy pretty fast because as we were paying there was a long line to be seated. Because this place is traditional, they dont accept tipping, nor do they have take out.
The soup is very rich but not salty or grease. You will be asked to make choice of your ramen and beverage on a piece of paper when you are waiting in line and you will bring it to your counter. Btw, the line is moving fast, we waited about 5-10 mins while there might be 10+ people in front of us. Once there’s empty seats available to fit your party, the waiter will tell you the numbers and let you in. The numbers are shown on the seating chart on the wall. Each counter has a bag hook to let you hang the purse. Pass the order paper to the waiter who is serving behind the counter. The Ramen is brought to your table in ~10-15 mins. You can help yourself to get water from fountain machine behind the seat and the cup is on your counter. The hot water was not working when I was there :( Their hot sauce is more spicy than the normal J-restaurant standard. So you may want to choose only 1/2 mild if your tolerance is only a bit higher than the max spicy in other J-restaurant. Although they don’t accept the tips, the overall price is higher than other ramen restaurant in Manhattan, in contrast to the portion. Worth a try but I may not return very often. (Most of the empty tables have a voucher offering you complimentary noodle refill but we didn’t see that. They also offer this to your next visit when you check out but you may have to ask if they forget to give to you)一兰拉面汤头味道很丰富但不咸也不油腻。
Ichiran has only one item on the menu, and thats tonkotsu ramen. While that may sound like a downside, you have plenty of options for add-ins and you can request different thickness of noodles and amount of richness in the broth. While I highly recommend the standard bowl with the suggested add-ins for first timers, you can definitely make any bowl your own.The atmosphere of the restaurant feels straight out of Japan with the seating and its a really unique environment, one that were not used to in America. Its very private and reminds you that its a place for food and not for intimate conversation.
It was absolutely delicious!!!! The broth was so flavorful and the pork was so tender. The fact that you can customize you noodles and saltiness and garlic and really make itTo your taste. They also have a loyalty/point system that gets you Half portion ofNoodles for free!! I mean who doesn’t love that for the leftover broth. Can’t wait to go back.
Finally Ichiran opened in Manhattan!Ichiran is one of the famous ramen place in Japan and they are well known for Tonkotsu ramen. Inside of the restaurant looks like college library. Instead of tables they have individual cubicles. If you are dining by yourself, Ichiran is the perfect place to eat.I ordered Tonkotsu ramen with medium saltiness, medium richness, 1/2 clove garlic, with scallion, with chashu, soft on noodle texture. I love spicy food so I ordered 5 spiciness. The broth was so tasty and delicious. I can say its the best tonkotsu ramen so far in NYC.The only complaint is the price. In Japan, one bowl of ramen is around $8, but in NYC its $20.58 without tips!
I had such high expectation for this shop and it landed way way below my expectation. The ramen was ok at best, but I love how I can pick how my noddle is cooks. The marinated charshu is just bad, but apparently a best seller. I would for sure pass on that. Not worth the wait but worth it to try it once for the experience. Will give Ichiran another try when I am in Japan. But this was a disappointment. 3 star for the experience and option to select how the noodle is cooked.
Legendary ramen chain from Japan. Everything identical to the Japanese Ichiran experience I had. I generally dont eat big portions but here I recommend getting the extra portion of noodles. They sometimes give that for free for promotion. If you are in the area, stop by for a quick dose of heavenly deliciousness!
Ichiran is an experience. This place is an introverts paradise. Imagine a dining experience where you dont have to make eye contact with anyone ans You speak minimumal words. Ichiran offers an escape from the busy city with private individual stalls. The service here is fast and authentic. Food here is good. I loved how customizable my ramen is. I ordered my miso ramen to be extra spicy and I had an additional order of noodles. I was stuffed to the max. This place is a little pricey and you could have a long wait time. I would come back here again.

2022-05-27The ramen itself was fantastic, I really enjoyed it. But it is definitely an individual experience. There are booths with walls on either side that make it difficult to hold a group conversation. I would only recommend going if youre going alone or with one other person.Theres a parking lot next door so the line gets split before and after the entry. Though there is no sign or explanation, the staff keep coming out and have to tell people to go back. They should put up a sign!

2022-06-29This is very much a solo experience with the individual booth so you can enjoy your food in peace.I went in around 3-4pm and had no lines and the restaurant was mostly empty. However it still took a while for me to be seen to and seated. Once I was seated, the service was very quick and attentive. The ramen is very very good and definitely worth the trip to eat the ramen. However Im not sure if its something worth waiting over an hour for so I definitely advise going during the off peak hours.

2022-02-14This has been a wonderful experience. The staff were incredibly courteous and friendly. They patiently answered my dumb questions and explained the process well. The food was absolutely rich in flavor and high in satisfaction.I would highly recommend coming here for a genuine ramen experience and it’s a great place to go by yourself or with a partner.

2022-05-18I went around 12:40 and had to wait about 40 minutes to get in so expect to stand in line for a bit if you go during peak lunch hours.I would say that it was worth the wait. The noodles and the broth were cooked perfectly and the spiciness was at the exact level I wanted. I definitely recommend trying their matcha pudding. I almost didn’t but a friend insisted that I had to try it. I’m so glad I did because it’s been over 24 hours and I’m still thinking about how good it was!The staff was very friendly and attentive as well.

2022-05-06Definitely one of the yummiest ramen Ive tested. The attention and the explanation for first goers was spot on.Like it shows, the place is very traditional and you have your own space for the whole experience.Even when it says it EVERYWHERE, Do NOT leave a tip!.This is a no, no in Japanese culture. The ambience and the cleanliness, perfect.Ill be going back! 🌸🌸🌸🌸

2022-05-07Quite pricey for a bowl of ramen. $27 for a standard set. Experiencing once or once in a while is alright. It’s good that tipping is not followed at the establishment. Taste is good and it should be considering the reputation and price. Service is great.

2022-04-21Delicate and personal, your personal stall rewards you with your choice of a meal fully customizable. Al dente noodles with a spicy touch is what we wanted. While the price might seem high, its a fair equivalent to any other restaurants best entrees. Keep that in mind. Wonderful warming soup, especially great for cold days. The green tea pudding is a must

2022-06-28Ichiran has a really good balanced taste. Nothing stands out messing with the deep broth. The ramen is served at a great temperature and the display of ingredients very inviting. The concept of single booth is great and they have water machines your can serve yourself. No, no waiting around just for water. The option to add more noodles is really nice for those who have a larger appetite. Decently priced for such a good ramen. I removed 1 star because the hardness of our noodle wasn’t correct, it was a lot softer than it should. I still highly recommend this place as the broth and quality of ingredients is great.

2022-01-10This place serves just one dish. Ramen. Thats it. If you want to eat the best Ramen in town, then this is the place to go.The only problem is..a lot of other people want to go there too. Expect to stand in a long queue to get your seat. Most restaurants that we passed by were empty but when we reached Ichiran, we saw a long queue. We were in 2 minds whether we should endure the wait since the weather was super cold (0 degree Celsius and windy). We decided to endure the cold and I am glad we did.The Ramen was super delicious (perhaps the wait in the icy weather enhanced all the flavors). I ordered their bubbly sake that feels like Champagne. It was an unique dining experience with their solo tables and the food magically appearing through the curtain. For an unique Ramen dining experience, this is the place to go.My only quibble was that when we entered the place, there were many tables empty. I wondered why they kept us waiting in the freezing weather outside when we could have set in a cozy table waiting for the food.

2022-03-29Very unique dining experience. Love that they have veggie option. Staff was very respectful and helpful. There is a no tipping policy that causes the food to be at pricier end, but it is great if staff is getting paid what they deserve.
