This place is nice and its very intimate. Its a little high end. The food and the sake bottle selection is great; anything dginjo would be amazing. If you know your flavors, you could have an incredible experience. However, the staff kills the experience that this restaurant could offer. Service is not something you would get here, they would just take your order and rush you out at 10pm when they close at 11. Dinner was on a saturday.
The food is just okay but super expensive. Four adults and two kids cost $270 but just half full. It’s too pricey in Flushing and nothing special. The male waiter’s attitude is so bad. He forced us to put down 15% tips. Also, he said the tips is based on the amount before tax but actual it’s after tax. Even though I explained it to him, he still insisted he is right. He seems knew nothing but just wanted money. We definitely won’t come back again! Terrible experience…
Decor and sushi is the best part of the place the rest leaves much to be desired especially looking at the bill and feeling hungry 2 hours later. They dont serve any liquor that you would know or even soju. Other restaurants in the area next door when you are walking in is even better
After having been here 2-3 times during and now after this pandemic of 2020, I can say I really enjoy this restaurant. From beginning to end each time I have been here, I have enjoyed my dining experience.Yes they wear masks, have sanitizer, temperature thermometer and the unisex bathrooms are kept very clean!!Drinks: sake selection is varied and deliciousCold food: fresh and well preparedHot food: cooked well, flavor profiles blend wellAmbiance: nice outdoor set up and indoor is spaciousI am Chef with a fine dining background and love these higher-end food options like Wagyu beef and Foie Gras. When I am in town, I will frequent this restaurant.
First time for here and last. We just no need to spend money for scallops roll because after we ate one bite we think it doesn’t fresh, we just would like to cancel that order only or do something is better. So after we asked to take it off the bill, the manager brought out scallops to try to convince us that it was fresh, he even pressed the scallop with his bare finger! They didn’t take the roll off the bill.
I came here for dinner to eat Sashimi with my mom because I couldn’t find any decent sushi/Sashimi restaurants in flushing area, and the review of the restaurant was good. I was very excited to come here. We ordered Sashimi $48 and Uni toast. Sashimi was pricey compare to other restaurant and Uni toast tasted oily for me. I wouldn’t recommend sushi or sashimi here, but who knows- maybe the lunch would worth the money or other non raw foods. Also, the server was not friendly. Overall, we spent total of ~$100 and it was not worth the money at all. Very disappointing.
Got taken here as a surprise for my birthday. had the pre-set menu. the place was clean, the service was great (they’re very kind and knowledgeable of what they are serving), and the food came out quickly. the food itself was beyond amazing. iki has the best sushi i have ever eaten in my life. the wagyu was also among the best i’ve had. of course the pre-set menu may be seen as a little pricey, it’s completely worth it for the grade of food you’re getting. it’s a wonderful experience every food lover should have at least once!
Nice decor a little noisy while we visited must of been doing upgrades or repair. Service is good as well as the food. Despite being in an expensive rent area this joint attempts while largely succeeding at providing nicely executed dishes at a favorable price point. Just so you’re not confused about directions the location is one level down on 39th if you remember that it is below the hotel I think you should get there quickly.
Weve been here a few times, the food is really good and all, except for this time two waiters just kinda forced us to tip. Dont get me wrong, i always tip well, but I tip for the service, tipping is not mandatory in the first place. Never coming back here, didnt like the experience.或许是我孤陋寡闻了,但是这家店吃相太难看了😒
One of the waiters hassled me because I put down 15% tip *before tax* (as how it should be) instead of after-tax which is how they purposely calculated on the receipt. This is fundamentally unethical and petty.Never put up with this kind of entitled attitude. I blew them off and stood my ground.Never coming back here again because of this only reason. Their waiters need to be trained to be less entitled and pretentious. There is no rule or law requiring a minimum tip amount 🙄
Loved the dining experience here! They serve a range of Japanese foods including sushi & sashimi, handrolls, stir fry and soup noodles, sizzling beef, seafood, etc. The food was all very good that we added order a couple of times. Most interesting was their beef - cooked on a hot stone at the table. Seafood was also very fresh - saw alive prawns in the tank one minute, the next minute it was on a plate.Service was expected of a pricier restaurant.
Looking for a fancy modern Japanese restaurant? This is one of them. However, the prices are a tad much. Interior is wonderfully decorated and atmosphere is welcoming. The ramen bowls I had were good except for the super salty egg and watered down broth. The takoyaki had a tiny octopus than normal. I wanted the unagi don, but based on the picture, it looked small and the price was high. Great place, but a little overpriced.
3 star for price, food and service + 4 star for aesthetic and big food portion = 3.5.Interior of this restaurant is spectacular. Lots of natural light coming through the windows, lighting up the whole space. Very clean and tidy. I was here during lunch on Friday and ordered the lunch special set. You pick a main entree (I got the katsu curry rice) from the selected list on the menu and you get rice, miso soup, small side dishes, egg custard with mushroom, and a small scoop of ice cream (they have vanilla, chocolate, red bean, and green tea). The total came out to be almost $25 after tax and minimal tips.A little pricey for very standard Japanese food. The curry was nothing special and honestly tasted like the boxed Golden Curry. I know because I eat it all the time, so that was a little disappointing. Katsu was big, but a little on the dry end. Miso soup tasted like every generic miso soup. I did like the egg custard though. It was a nice touch. And the portion was big, so that helped lift the weight of unsatisfaction over the curry. The unagi-don was mediocre; tasted a little fishy. But I had fresh unagi-don from Japan so my standards might be a little high 🤣I would still recommend this place if you are willing to pay a little more for basic Japanese food. There are other great spots that sell the same food. But once again, the portion was big and you do get a variety of different food in the set.
One of priciest place in Flushing but also a place to get high quality food. Everything we had (e.g. sashimi, uni foie gras, waygu beef, etc) were fresh and delicious. Services were great as there are many waitresses walking around to make sure every table got coverage. However, toward the end of the meal, when we were ready to get the check, it took us a while to get someone over since 3 waitresses were cheat-chating over their phones
I go with my wife to this great restaurant from time to time! This is the best place to to have a good dinner. I visit this spot at least once a month. The cooking is of high quality, the crew is friendly and the prices are reasonable. I enjoy meeting in this spot to have a rich lunch.
4/5 for the food, 0/5 for the serviceI came here with my family to celebrate my birthday.. The food was delicious but the service was horrendous. First, the server got my order wrong multiple times. I placed 3 sushi orders but they only brought out 2. When I explained to the server that we were missing an order, he responded with a nasty attitude and told me that I was wrong, even though he repeated my order back to me when I initially placed it. Second, he gave us an attitude, going as far as rolling his eyes, when I tried to exchange my drink order when the wrong drink was brought to the table. Third, the staff was making us uncomfortable by giving us looks and judging when we requested forks. Overall, the experience was not enjoyable in the slightest because of the way that the staff made me and my family feel.
Burnt food all I gotta say first time I had burnt sushi it was so burnt it completely overpowered everything else. They burnt the mushroom to charcoal black and then rolled it into the wagyu roll. given that the food is less than 4 ounces and it costs 25 dollars and there was pretty much no one else they had to serve, not sure why they couldn’t have held themselves to a higher standard.Went here another time for a lunch invite and their salmon was over cooked and very dry. You can marinate and then pan fry the salmon before putting it into an oven to finish. If it’s about the money then just charge slightly more, the current cooking technique is below average.Sea urchin was not fresh another time I got invited to lunch. Also green tea ice cream had ice granules, so too much freezing and defrosting, maybe better to leave it off completely if you can’t control the texture. This place has a nice decor. But only half the food is good, the other half is below average. It’s a work in progress.
Diamond in the rough....wow, I literally cant say enough about this place. Atmosphere very nice, Service spectacular, food absolutely amazing. When they say fresh, they mean FRESH! I watched them pluck my lobster straight from the tank, and turn it into an amazing sushi dish. We ordered 4 Sushi rolls, Lamb chops, Lobster salad and a few other things, all of them were amazing. If you get a chance definitely stop in, you wont regret it. My only regret to stuffed to order anymore...lol!
Good service and very attentive. Food came out fast. All very fresh. We seat outside and overall dinning experience is good. Suggest to try their beef which is really good. Softshell crab. Not too soft and I will recommend to avoid. Shasime are all good. Will recommended.
I came here when it was first opened and it was super fancy and everything was deliciouswith great presentation. Through time, it had become more of a sports bar vibe and I AM NOT paying $$$ for food to also hear a bunch of people screaming at the TV. So I stopped coming. My friend wanted (good) sushi in flushing and picked this place off of an internet search and I had warned her about my previous experience. We visited regardless. Due to COVID weirdness, she opted to sit outside. We picked a table in the corner by the fountain and it was nice and relaxing under the canopy with a slight breeze. We were the only people outside and the staff was attentive and came outside to check on us a fair bit. The food was just as delicious and nicely presented as it was the previous times Ive eaten here, and inside was pretty crowded but lacking in the frat/sport bro demographic, which was pleasing to see. All in all, amazing and I am glad to be a patron here again!
This is a great spot for high end japanese food. I got the toro, sea eel and some of their wagyu. All done quite well. I dont recommend ordering the fish shabu shabu because of how many bones were in the fish, which took up a lot of my time to pick out. Also they said that it would be 2lb and ended up being almost 3lb. The fish cost $38/lb and wasnt worth it in my opinion. Also the free ice cream was a bit freezer burnt and they were very cheap with the single scoop they gave me. Id definitely go back but order differently.
My favorite thing now is feeling safe while eating “out” they have outside individual/small group tents, breathable enough to feel in an open space but close enough to stay warm and comfortable. Food fresh and delicious, and service was excellent. It really follow COVID restrictions. Thank you!
I ordered 2 Tonkotsu ramens and takoyaki, Takoyaki was good id say 4/5. The ramen on the other hand was not the best Ive had, it was missing veggies that are shown in the other review photos. It only had pork, noodles, 1 chicken egg, 1 fish cake and little to no veggies. Broth was a 3/5 as well due to watery consistency not as creamy as other tonkostu bowls from competitors.
Fish was really fresh. Wagyu beef melts in your mouth. Soups are savory and not too salty. The few times I have been here though, my kid didnt seem very into the food, maybe not the best place to bring your kids as the food can be a bit pricey but for the quality I was pleased. I would definitely come here again, the service was exceptional when we first came here for lunch when they were still new. Other times during busier hours, it wasnt as attentive but not at all bad.
I like this spot! They provide great food, their menu is large, The cook in that restaurant is a real pro, I love a lot trying all their dishes. The dishes are always good, the service towards the visitors is efficient. I frequently visit this place and I not even once was disappointed. I recommend it to all my friends.
This place is very expensive, $48 for 12 pieces of raw cheap fishes ( no any thing else included), $18 or $24 main dishes don’t include any rice, salad or soup. We spend $160 for two adults $ two girls, we are end up half full, we have been many sushi places all USA, and No thing is special in this place & will never go back again.
This restaurant is unquestionably one of the most attractive restaurants in the neighborhood. Always when I visit this place I am very happy. They preserve their very high standard service and the topmost level of cooking they provide. You surely will enjoy this this restaurant. Warmly recommended.
This place always has great service and excellent food. The sushi is fresh and great quality. I love their affordable lunch sets; theyre definitely worth it! My favorite is the Kaisen don set. Sashimi (and uni, salmon roe, and a raw oyster in ponzu sauce), rice, steamed etc, salad, miso soup, and ice cream in the end. Its amazing what theyre serving for the price. The waitress and the manager/boss work hard and are always super friendly. This is my favorite sushi restaurant!
Not bad sushi was alright, I had better. This restaurant usually treat group so they are not used to treat individuals who just want some sake and sushi. Overall place looks fancy and food tastes good fresh. They also let u choose ur lobster and crabs for ur meal, u just have to talk to the manager. And u get free ice cream in the end.
All the trappings of a high end restaurant. Unfortunately the staff has the mindset of a low end fast food place. Everything was fine until they missed a dish. We asked about it towards the end of the dinner. Made it clear if they forgot to make it we will do without it. They assured us its already done and bringing it out. 10 minutes go by and we realized they pulled a fast one on us. We told them to cancel it. Another waiter comes over and asks pus if we are sure we want to cancel. We told him yes. He then asks us if we want to take it to go. 5 minutes later 2 waiters AND the manager bring the dish over making a scene about it. Manager tries to shame us into taking it. REALLY?!?! Really ghetto way to run a restaurant. McDonalds treat their customers better. This is NOT the experience a $100+ per person restaurant should be run
This place has given me and my family members multiple cases of food poisoning. When I called to let the owner know that our entire family became sick from the meal that we are, the owner told me that it was my responsibility to realize and food has gone bad, and my responsibility to not put said food in my mouth. He then explained that other customers with food poisoning just went to the hospital and the restaurant used its insurance to reimburse. Utterly disgusting and irresponsible.
THIS REVIEW IS ONLY BASED ON LUNCH MENU ONLY! More like 3.5 rather than 4Service 7.5/10 not super attentive nor friendly. The servers seem really knowledgeable with the menu A+ . Service seem more like taking order, bring you your food & dessert, do your payment, and no thank you nor goodbye. This place seem like a wannabe high class restaurant and Ootoya gimmick (during lunch time). Lunch sets are so similar to Ootoya sets.Wagyu sukiyaki 7/10: too much vegetables than wagyu! Not WORTH the price youre paying for! Broth is GOOOD! but it can get overwhelming when you keep drinking it.Gindara saikyo 7.5/10: had high expectations but didnt live up to the hype. Received two medium sized Gindara. Gindara was tender and flaky. The saikyo miso that they used is not well balanced and doesnt seem to suit the Gindara itself.Sets that comes with your entree: miso soup (7/10), salad (6.5/10), chawan mushi (8/10), seaweed/pickles (2.5/10), and rice (8/10). Received red bean and green tea ice cream (9/10).
This place will always be special to me, its where I proposed to my wife. Ive been here for both Omakase, and a la carte. Both experiences were amazing. The Omakase is a great deal in quality andt taste. The A la Carte was a just as good too, try the A5 Wagyu beef, it melts like butter. This is a place great for dates and special occasions and intimate dining.
First of all, the food is very delicious. The female waiter and the front desk have a very good attitude. I dont understand why some male Cantonese waiters can be so arrogant at work when they have a problem and need to be served. Talking loudly next to me makes me feel like Im not in the mood to eat at the vegetable market
Let me say something, that steamed egg should be apprenticed, salty! The whole experience is too greasy, the whole package has no green vegetables, and it is all pressed by a bottle of sake! But considering the service, the attitude is very good. Still give five stars!
The sashimi plate is not very fresh and it taste like its in the refrigerator many days. Plate Set up could be subpar at the top. If you like the freshest sashimi, I dont recommend this store. The taste of several kinds of fish in sashimi is extremely bad. It is almost like cotton without the toughness and elasticity that it should have. As a diner who often fishes and cooks, it is a good quality to eat this kind of sashimi at a Japanese food store. Quite disappointed

2022-06-06Pretty solid Japanese spot in Flushing. Nice aesthetics and good service. I tried the fried tofu, clams, the dry boiled dungeness crab, and cheesecake. For the price, it was pretty good. My buddy agreed.Worth a visit if youre in the area and dont want to trudge all the way over to Manhattan.

2022-05-01This is a very nice Japanese restaurant. I don’t eat seafood but they have a lot of rolls with real crab meat. We also had hot stone beef which was delicious. I wasn’t a fan of the chicken because they used dark meat instead of the breast. Overall, an ice authentic Japanese joint.

2021-07-26The serenely decorated space of this restaurant caught our eye. The main attraction was the water cascading down the walls near the private canopies. It was definitely a delight to dine here as the atmosphere was aesthetically pleasing. Our table ordered the King Crab- steamed, with sauces on the side, okra, Fried Calamari, Rice. The waitress brought out the Crab before it was cooked..I didnt realize how big it was but I got it any way. It was absolutely delicious 😋. The Okra was perfectly cooked, it still had a little bit of a crisp bite so it wasnt as slimy as you would think. The fried Calamari was cooked perfectly as well, it came with spicy mayo, which we enjoyed as well. I mean even the white rice was good. The customer service was impeccable as well. Overall a great dining experience. Thank you yo all the staff that assisted us.

2022-02-09Came here with my boyfriend for some soba noodles and sushi (loved it!) We also had the wagyu udon which was alright and probably will not get again. Service was good.

2022-04-05The food was extremely fresh, with my only complaint being the high price for small portions. Expect to spend $100+ per person for lunch without drinks. Expect to spend way more if you want a cocktail with your meal.

2022-03-20Ordered the grill shrimp and a roll to-go. Not impressive, in fact more than half the contents of the shrimp was removed and the shell was then filled with a red mayonnaise mix. Only about a thumbs worth of shrimp meat. I think they charge full price, but remove most of the meat for resale. Same quality for roll I ordered also. Customer service representation was only okay. WOULD NOT recommend for both tourist and locals.

2021-06-20A Father’s Day treat today at Iki. This is our first time back after the covid19 March 2020 lockdown. The quality of food is still good and remains the same as before. Staff service is friendly, accommodating and food preparation is quick. We tried the codfish meal set, smoked duck, chicken karaage, lobster and avocado salad and two servings of my favourite lobster tacos. Will always come back for a nice treat.

2021-07-07This is my go to date spot with my boyfriend. We normally only go during lunch as their lunch specials are amazing deals and good quality.Ive tried the chirashi, butter salmon, sushi, and seared A5 wagyu sets and Id recommend all of them. Their sashimi is quite fresh. They also had a lobster roll with fresh lobster from their tanks, but I was meh about it.

2022-06-25The manager Kenny have attitude problem. The food quality is far away from the authentic Japanese dishes. The waitress can’t even take the order correctly.
