Imani in other cities:
This restaurant popped up as hot spots to try so we did just that. My boyfriend and I ordered the coconut salmon and jasmine rice with steamed callaloo. Staff were friendly. We were seated right away. We enjoyed the atmosphere is nice great vibe and nice area to bar hop after. Recommended for cute date night.
Table of 6. 2 children under 12 and 4 adults. Appetizers and entrees were amazing. Really caught the essence of Jamaican/Caribbean cuisine and traditional dishes; portions were fair. We also ordered the Brunch Mimosa for the table which is more than enough for four adults. Music was tasteful and not too loud. Enjoyed the overall experience. Would highly recommend.
Really enjoyed my visit to Imani. I was immediately seated (party of 2) with no reservation. I think we just beat the Saturday dinner rush. The hostess was friendly, very communicative, and our waitress, Tracy J, was friendly, helpful, and very attentive despite managing multiple tables. The food was great, tastey, flavorful, and vibrant. It was as good as it looked. The cocktails were strong (I think the menu could use a strength rating). My only critique of the food I ordered is for the jerk chicken tacos, or any taco for the matter, and that is they should always have double tortillas.
We went in early for lunch on Saturday. It’s not so busy but customers kept walking in around 12:30 then the restaurant filled out quickly. We were lucky to have a table outside the restaurant under the trees. It’s so nice to enjoy summer breeze. Food is absolutely delicious, full of flavor but the small plate is a bit pricey to my opinion. $12 for 5 piece of chicken wings and they are not even organic chicken.
Was difficult to get in during the summertime but finally made it. Very nice rustic decor and the winding staircase is a nice touch. Extensive menu but a bit pricy. Service was just okay. The baked wings were delicious. Shrimp and grits wasnt as spicy as I anticipated but the coconut flakes in the grits made it flavorful. The coleslaw was different but tasty. The codfish fritters were fried a little hard. The ackee and saltfish spring rolls were good (the scotch bonnet dipping sauce was the right amount of heat). The coconut rum punch was strong (good ole Wray & Nephew) and delicious. Overall pretty good first time experience. Nice location. Eager to revisit to try a few other delicacies.
Finally satisfied my craving for some Caribbean food and boy was it worth the wait and rain pour. Got there an hour before closing but the staff was very accommodating with seating my party. The food and the drinkzzz had me feeling greatt 😋. Only thing i did not try was their desserts, kitchen was doing last call so i just ordered my food. They understood the assignment when you say you need a drink drink. But definitely going back again to order the whole menu.Ox tails stew w/ rice and beans and plantains
Visit: Sunday 26 Dec , 2021Order:1)Baked Jerk Chicken with salad ($17): tender, tasty, bread was soft and the salad was good (8/10)2) Capuccino Martini: Best, well executed, I enjoyed it (9/10) $12They will charge you 20% of service automatically in the check, and they will ask you for an extra tip. That was the only thing I didnt like about this place
Finally visited this resturant in August with family for my birthday and it was well worth it! The restuarant greeter was very nice and wished me a happy birthday. There is indoor as well as outdoor dining options. The food very flavorful and delicious. The drinks are on point, not watered down and not stingy with the alcohol. The waiter was friendly and attentive. The ambience and music were great.
Brunch with my ladies from out of town (Boston) and it was AMAZING! We ordered a variety of menu items with no disappointment. The frozen rum punch packed a mean punch indeed! We can’t wait to return for the dinner menu. We will be sure to take care service for our dinner. Staff were warm and genuine. Definitely a great gem of Brooklyn.
Had brunch with my two dear friends from out of town (Boston) for the first time. It was an AMAZING experience. The staff are genuine, warm and friendly. We came in for brunch. We ordered a variety and everything taste EXCEPTIONAL! We all even ordered some items to go including the corn & pumpkin soup and her chicken hash. The frozen rum punch packs a mean punch indeed! We will return again together for dinner, we can only imagine what that cuisine will do to our taste buds.
I had my birthday dinner there with friends and I am so happy Imani is where we went. All of the staff was incredibly friendly, attentive, and accommodating. We started out the dinner outside but had to move indoors and they were so nice and had no issues with the change. Plus the food and drinks were delicious and they have great vegan options! I highly recommend this restaurant.
Great staff, out waiter Greg or Craig ( I dont remember) was really AWESOME!!! The food was good, we didnt have to wait long. I was in a party of 8. The drinks were also good. The restaurant was clean and nice. The food is a bit pricey but understandable with the economy.
Yay😭😭finally went there, I’ve been waiting!!There’s no wait for a table and you can choose wherever you wanna sit, but indoor seating requires your vaccination card.Oh my God the playlist!!!! I was singing along the whole time and it felt so relaxing because most places don’t play afrobeats. The food was awesome! I was so fullAnd the drinks were good!I definitely wanna come back, it’s just so far from me. Awesome place!
The food was good but it was pricey for the portion and 1 side that came with the dish. Very overrated and the rum punch and blue long Island ice tea were okay. The only bright side was the young lady at the front and the music. I believe she was the host. She was very accommodating, extremely helpful and nice to our bday dinner group. She made the experience worth it. Our waiter was okay, wasnt really friendly and attentive. When it came down to his automatic 20% gratuity that seemed to be his only concern. He just didnt seem like he wanted to be there or to wait on us. The guys who clean the table kept hovering around too to take our plates like they couldnt wait for us to finish. Which made the experience highly annoying. For those reasons and the mediocre food for the price is why I gave this place 3 stars. Been to better spots for less...
I had the pleasure of visiting this restaurant three times. I will say that the service of the premises is very polite, friendly, always helpful. As for the Caribbean dishes served in this place; they are edible, you can eat it and sometimes you get the impression that they are well prepared, but not always. The service of the restaurant confirmed that it is different who cooks the dishes on the kitchen. The worst side of the kitchen forgets about many side dishes and does not season the dishes as much as they should be.The dishes are not hot, it has happened many times, the restaurant is crowded and you can feel the rush on the kitchen. When it comes to drinks, its a disaster, just sugar and syrup bought from the store. I had the pleasure of talking to a bartender, three months of experience, a bartender course?I wonder about what consumers say about drinks. They dont know nathing about a drinking and dont know how they really should taste and be admitted.Hope will be changed in the future.
Took my son to enjoy brunch and it was horrible. Him and I order at 2:04 pm a simple meal which consist of waffle and fruit, I ordered the French toast with the fruit. The French toast was serves to me at 2:40pm with french fries. I asked the young man where was my son food. We had to wait another 10 minutes for his waffles. No communication and no apology. I watched how they catered to others and how they food came out much quicker then our food did. I will take my m I need to another part of Brooklyn and will inform my friends to do the same.
Ridiculous that 20% gratuity is automatically applied to your bill when the service is not up to par. The food is good, but our waiter never checked in with us, never asked if we wanted more drinks (which we would have), never came back to see if we wanted dessert (which we did), and we had to flag someone down for the check. Maybe Ill order takeout if available on an app but will not visit again.
I finally made it. This is a much recommended spot. I hear the weekends are busy! Delicious and nutritious food options and a solid selection of drinks. I do stress that you decide on mild/medium options if you are sensitive to spicy dishes. After all, this is a West Indian spot. Indeed, Ill return for more!
Just left, had my birthday dinner here. It was a gift from my hubby. We kept it small and intimate and Imani was the PERFECT choice!! Hubby wanted it to be a surprise for me and I LOVED this place. Everything was well seasoned and presented beautifully! Will definitely be going back here!!!
I had a really great experience at Imani. When my husband and I first got there, we were told it would be a 45 min wait. 10 mins later i received a text message that our table was ready, this made me very happy. The food was hot and on point and the drinks were very good. Everything came out in a timely manner. I will definitely revisit Imani again. Thank u for such a great experience.
This was a lovely spot! I went for brunch on a rainy day so it wasn’t as packed as everyone I spoked to about the place said it was. Five of us dined on the roof seating area, which is small & tight, meaning your seat is going to have to be pulled in every time someone wants to use the restroom, which is located inside, or when the waiter comes & brings your food & drinks. I did notice the outdoor dining area below is more spacious & not as closed-in & it has a covering overhead to keep from getting wet. The food was visually pretty & delicious. My only & biggest issue was the menu didn’t mention that everything prepared had spicy seasoning. I don’t even eat the mildest hot sauce, so I probably won’t be returning. Lastly the servings were pretty hefty in amount so that was a highlight & the prices were good.
The food was good, but lord I wish I could give this 0 stars. I waited so long for food it’s ridiculous. I asked for a fruit punch juice and was given a guava. The mac and jerk tacos were good. But it took 35 mins for me and my girlfriends entree and I was told to order everything at once so the food could come. And the worst part, we finished eating at 10pm nobody came to give us a check till 11pm. There was a woman with a Afro who instead of helping us was interacting with guest downstairs laughing while she had one man covering an entire floor. Please fire her because she literally did nun there. I WAS NOT GIVEN WATER WHEN I FIRST CAME IN. I thought this was standard at every restaurant where they give water. I’m a normal big tipper but the service was the worst service I’ve seen in my nyc food experience. I will make a blog about this place and the service. Having gratuity included in the price when the service is terrible is ridiculous. I’m so disappointed because the food was good but the service was the WORST thing ever. When we finally got the check the server brought the check book with no check in it….. please don’t go here. Pick up the food but don’t eat here.
The food was amazing as always we, the curry chicken and curry shrimp was delicious. The cod fritters and chicken were great and of course the oxtail was on point. The pond di Beach dish was amazing amazing. The imani and coconut rum punch hit the spot. Definitely will be back!! (This review was written by my mom is of legal age) --signed Saniyas mom
I just left and I had to write a review. I had called the restaurant the day prior to see if they could accommodate my party of 12. The hostess, simone was SO KIND and accommodating. The hostess, Olivia working when we arrived, was also SO SWEET and did a wonderful job communicating where we would be sitting, telling us about cocktails etc. we had a great time, so I hate to say this, but our food took almost 2 hours to come out…that was the only con to the entire experience. I’m sure it was a staffing issue, but our server Sergio was a rockstar.the food and drinks were excellent. I’ll def be back.
A friend of mine told me I should try this spot so decided to take one of my girlfriends out for her birthday here. When I called they told me it was first come first served so decided to get there for 12pm. Glad we did because we were seated right away and it got packed after while. When we arrived I was lucky to find a close parking spot. We were able to pick where we wanted to sit outdoors. We were served by a nice lady. I ordered rum punch and my friend ordered the coconut rum punch. The drinks were good. For my entrée I ordered ackee and salt fish and my friend ordered chicken and waffles. Heres where the problem lies, the food took forever to come out and the waitress got lax with checking on us and keeping us udated. Also I asked to do something for my friends birthday and they never got the manager like they said they would. When the food finally arrived my callaloo looked different than what I am used to. It had some kind of yellow sauce that it was mixed in, it wasnt bad though. The ackee and salt fish was a little too salty also. My friends chicken was good when I tasted it. All in all it was just an ok experience.
The best Caribbean dishes in BK! EVERY BITE IS AN EXPLOSIVE EXPERIENCE! So flavorful I had a vegan dish, my family had veggie burgers, chicken and stake dishes. We all thank the chef! Food was made with love. We also loved the outdoor seating very comfortable and spacious. Best side dish was the callaloo
Atmosphere was warm and welcoming. We sat for a bit before we ordered. Music and other patrons were very friendly. We were not rushed and were able to enjoy ourselves. I had Tiger Shrimp and Grits and the other meal was Curried Chicken and Roti rollup. The drinks...(one was stronger than the other so we switched. Coconut Rum Punch and Imanis Rum Punch. I look forward to coming again to explore the other dishes.
The food was good and the service could have been better. The service wasnt bad, but slow. I suspect the server was a bit overwhelmed. He was pleasant and seemed to try hard.Too many issue for large parties. No separate checks. No individual payments allowed. Just felt like a hassle. I called and planned in advance and they didnt share those details with me up front. I may dine again solo if its convenient, but I would never take a large group there again.
Omg! Love it here. The food taste good. The service is good...I went on a brunch date with my friend and we only had appetizers but everything taste great. The only thing is ... I do feel like the food was too pricey for the portion that you get, But besides that no complaints. The drinks also was great. I had the rum punch and it was really good.
Sooo this is my 8th time coming to Imanis...maybe my 10th😄. However each time is a sweet experience. The ambiance is beautiful...good energy...lovely dancehall tunes...friendly staff and exquisite dishes. I always get the jerk shrimp and grits..jerk baked wings...my Favorite🍤and the Blue Duppy Cocktail 😋...This time I chose the Mimosa Experience. Overall this is one of my favorite restaurants to brunch...dine and have cocktails.
Stopped here on a rainy Sunday afternoon for brunch. We got there around 12:50 and it was busy, but not pack. I would suggest getting there earlier because the time we left, it was PACKED. lets talk drinks, I had the coconut rum punch and hubby had a hottie toddy, both delicious! Apps, wings and cod fritters, the fritters were ok. I didnt taste any fish in the batter. The wings seasoned and were good. I have the traditional ackee and saltfish, hubby had the shrimp and grits. Both were SO GOOD! Well be back for lunch and dinner. FYI, theres a 20% gratuity on all bills, but didnt mind it.
This is a really beautiful space, the food is delicious and the vibe is chill. The spiral staircase dominates the clean aesthetic of the indoor part of the restaurant, the street side outdoor seating is comfortable and quiet. We were too early for the backyard patio which it seems opens after 2pm, which was a little bit of a bummer, but we still had a great time. Food highlight was the hot sauce that comes with the beef patties - 🔥😋 also really enjoyed the ackee but everything was great. We’ll just have to go back to check out that patio.
We were a party of 5. I had the traditional ackee and saltfish with the blue duppy cocktail. The fried dumpling was soft and delightful. The cocktail was just what I needed. My meal was exquisite. The service was excellent. We all enjoyed our food. This was my second time at Imanis. Ill definitely be back
Found this place after quick local search. Fortunately I was able get a table after 20 mins from my arrival. The tables on the outside were crowded, especially since I arrived on the same night as Joe Biden was voted president elect. The atmosphere was chill. Shout-out to our server Carlos, attentive yet not over bearing. Bathroom cleanliness was decent.
Not taking reservations right now, strictly walk-ins so wait can be a bit but WORTH IT. I got the Vegan Delight (as pictured first) which has chickpeas, okra, and cabbage curried with Dahl puri (for those who don’t know, it’s similar to roti but with mashed split peas in side) and a side of rice. It was excellent and super flavorful. The only thing I’d say could be improved is the macaroni - the crust is the most flavorful part but digging in, it could use more flavor. Overall, I’d go again to try other menu items as service was good and we received food super fast. Also, to note - they add an 18% gratuity beforehand.
Our waiter didnt know nothing about to the menu. Ask simple questions with no answers to my questions just excuses. The food took about 40+ mins to come out. Our drinks took 25+ mins to come out. A table that came 15 mins after us got there drinks before us. Over all bad service. I would never come back again. Especially when it was my birthday on top of that!
I really love this place the atmosphere was great. A diverse crowd good service and great food. Their coconut rum punch was everything and their sweet country fried boneless chicken OMG and chicken breast is usually dry this was far from it. The fritter was good too, all around it was very good experience.
I enjoyed my time eating at this restaurant. There was outdoor seating due to everything going on. I was told the food they served sometime ago wasn’t all that good but they have good dishes now. I enjoyed the salmon, fritters, oxtail stew, the jasmine rice was alright it could of been better and I ordered a pina colada with liquor. I would definitely come back. My table I was sitting at was moving to much so they changed it for me. The customer service was nice. You have to wear a mask to use the restroom. Their bussers just stand around waiting for you to finish your food so they can take your plates which was a little uncomfortable to feel someone staring you down but other then that it was nice to sit outside and enjoy the weather until it started to rain. 😊
Loved it here! They renovated a brownstone into a restaurant! I had oxtail w/ rice&peas, macaroni pie, and plantains. Absolutely delicious, the oxtail was falling off the bone! And if you’re looking for a strong drink, order the blue duppy. I would recommend.P.s. I’m a food blogger. Follow me on tiktok ellenajisoutside
This was an amazing experience. The decor was fabulous and the space had a really nice smell. It’s starting to get cold outside and I felt so cozy inside this small restaurant. It was just me so I sat at the bar. The wait staff was very friendly and the bartender spent a lot of time with me to make a perfect drink, fruity but not sickeningly sweet - he pulled it off excellently! For my dinner I ordered the Big Red. I wanted to try something new and I’m glad I did, it was so tasty. There were a lot of bones to pick out, but it was still worth it. The plantains and okra really enhanced the dish. When all the fish was consumed i dumped the rice on to the plate and mixed it with the sauce. I’m just passing through NYC, but I would absolutely love to come back. I am very pleased.
Good food and good atmosphere. I would recommend making a reservation for brunch if possible so you are seated right away. The wait time for non reservation is about 15-20 minutes. Food is seasoned and tasty. Unlimited mimosa option is a nice addition.I would recommend more than one server on the floor to help with the service of drinks.
Wow! My bestfriend and I came here on a Saturday night. They were playing an amazing mix of afrobeats and dancehall. The hostess greeted us with warmth and seated us immediately. We started with the coconut rum punch, wings , and jerk corn. My goodness everything was delicious. Then our entrees came. We ordered oxtail, rice & peas, shrimp and grits with macaroni and cheese. The flavor made me want to run to kitchen and high five the everyone who contributed to these dishes. We enjoyed our meal throughly. The decor was beautiful. The staff was kind and attentive. I have to come back!
The food was AMAZING! Everything was so flavorful and seasoned to perfection. The corn and pumpkin soup was EVERYTHING . You know the phrase, Kiss the cook? Well, I would have kissed him! Lol my servers were awesome and do was the host. I will definitely be back. Caribbean food at its finest!
Went to this place yesterday. the food was delicious.. we had a variety of small plates as we are trying the vegetarian life once again...so we has the jerk corn on the cob (Im not a corn fan so i didnt eat much. He loved it), ackee and saltfish spring roll with habanero sauce (caution HOT 🔥), codfish (which is another name for saltfish lol) fritters with curry dipping sauce and mac and cheese (very cheesy)... i dont eat shellfish so my options were limited by the seafood dishes on the menu but if you love shellfish you will love it... there was one vegan dish on the menu but i despise okra so i passed on that ... I had the rum punch with coconut rum as wray and nephew makes me sick. He had the kulture klash. My rum punch was delicious, i had 2!. Our server Joshua was very attentive..... and he was handsome too ladies so check out Imani. The one star comes off for the tall lanky busboy who gave me a strange look anytime i spoke to him... he gave me a strange vibe whenever he did that... but i would return..
The food at this place was great and they have vegan options. I also enjoyed the rum punch. The staff was nice and helpful. The place is a bit pricey, but it is post pandemic so it is what it is. My only complaint is that rats are rampant at this corner. I would recommend eating inside the restaurant because it is nice and bright. Or at the very least in the sidewalk shed. Do not eat outside in the front or anywhere next to the house on the right hand side because you will be exposed to rats in the evening. I like this place just do not eat outside for the most part.
I loved this place from the food, to the drinks, to the music!! My kind of spot especially if you love Caribbean food like I do. I order the oxtail stew with brown rice and plantain which was soo good and flavorful and my drink was the Imanis Rum Punch. My date enjoyed his meal the Chicken from yard and his Sam Adams, Summer Ale. The place was great and the staff was soo nice and welcoming our waiter was very helpful as well made sure we were straight and our food was good. I am going to be visiting again very soon would like to try other menu items and drinks.
Imani’s is a nice spot located in the heart of downtown Brooklyn in an in the wall corner of a Brooklyn brownstone. The food is a fusion of the Caribbean Islands headed by Chef Banta from Mali and incorporates various flavors and island inspired drinks to give you a nice tropical vibe 🌴
I went here to diner for a job outing and the spot was absolutely beautiful. I love the lighting of the spot and the out door seating. We were served by a gentleman by the name of Karim who was an absolute pleasure! He took his time to introduce us to the menu as well as got to know us by first name basis which I thought was a really cool and personal touch! :)The place will filled and we dined with a party of 5 and received our drinks with in 5 min of dining and our food within another 15The food was phenomenal I had a jerk ramen for the entree and the Imani salad for the appetizer. The salad was fresh and the the ramen was spicy and extremely flavorful!I definitely would say I had a very memorable experience and Imani and particularly Karim, helped bring our birthday celebration to life!Thank you guys 😊❤️
I stopped in last night at around 5:30, I was seated right away, the hostess was nice as well as the servers. I had the jerk chicken rice and beans with Cole slaw.the chicken had just enough kick to it. I also consumed 3 of the Imani rum punch beverages they were awsome...it was a good thing I walked there.
I went there to celebrate my best friend’s birthday. I was able to find parking, there were several options for seating. My friends and I had to wait about 45 mins for a seat but it was worth it. We ate upstairs which was great because there were less ppl there as compared to there outside seating area. The appetizers were delicious, rum punch was just right, I really liked the Coconut rum punch. I ordered the jerk chicken with rice and it was addictively good.
First time here! 👏🏾 I loved the food. The ackee and salt fish bakes was delish and the codfish fritters (yummy!!!) but things didn’t get going until I dove into that chicken and waffle with bananas and syrup and what not. I will be back, but with a sweater on because the heat needs work and I was cold af. The music is too loud for me but who am I? All in all, I left full and happy! Love Love Love
I was so hungry, I was looking forward to eating carribean food. I ordered the curry shrimp but instead of tasting Jamaican it taste like Thai food and the rice was a Mediterranean style flavor overpowering with cloves, cardamom etc. This meal was not authentic at all very disappointed
The drinks were not my favorite BUT the food is amazing, the music is good, & the staff is attentive !! This place is addictive once you go, just order a soft drink 😂*** Ask if the have any food specials going on if you chose to go. My second time going they had a seafood burger as a special that day & it was delicious.
This beautiful place is, hands down, one of my favorites ever! The service is so genuinely kind and sweet, Thoughtful and detailed. All the staff from wait-staff to food runners are very attentive and most of all, seem happy to be there. . As a guest, one can feel the love. The Food! The food is incredible. It is always deeply delicious and soulful. I will make this my weekly stop for good food and good welcoming vibes. Thank you!!
Overall a good experience with tasty food and portions on the larger side. Still minor knocks on how long the waiter took to come to the table the first time for a drink order. Also the Tiger prawns and grits was more accurately much smaller shrimp and grits. It still tasted great. In summary, Ill be going again.
The codfish fritters is my favorite. I didn’t like the pasta, it was too soggy to my surprise. I traded it for an oxtail dish and that made up for everything! The drinks were okay, it may sneak up on you on an empty stomach. The menu is limited and service can be slow. Overall, I would recommend coming with friends, you can actually have a conversation in there and relax.
This place gets all the stars! My girlfriend and I ordered the akee spring rolls 😋 I ordered the Curry w black rice and my girl got the jerk chicken w rice and peas 😋 it was so good and alot of food! The drinks were super strong and tasty ! Malik our server was so kind and attentive ! Such a great date night and over all great time, we will for sure be back!
I attended a birthday dinner here. The staff members were friendly and we were seated promptly. The decor was very nice, with multiple seating options outdoors and upstairs. The restaurant was not overly crowded considering it was a Saturday night. The intimacy was perfect! The food was delicious but the portions are a bit on the smaller side and the prices were $$$.Drinks were absolutely amazing. I will definitely be visiting again especially for the banana pudding!
Malique and AJ were amazing!! The customer service was on point. I loved their music choices, they were friendly, accomodating, good vibes, and attended to every need we had. I came for my holiday party and was a table of 25. I felt super taken care of. Music was good and the tables were timely cleaned. I loves their service!
My party of 10 was seated in the upstairs area. The service provided by Daniel our waiter was great. The apps, entrees, and drinks came out at a steady pace which was great for a large party like mine. Drinks hit the spot and so did the music. Will definitely be back again!
The food is really good. Usually fusion is not the best, but everything is really good here. The chicken, the Ramen, and island burger are all great, but the oxtail is the dish to get here. Combine that with the fun drinks and atmosphere, delivery option, and you got your 5 stars right there!
Andres my server made a great experience. Me and my friends a had a great time and Andres was well versed in the menu and great recommendations for entrees and drinks! Not to mention Alan the hostess from the beginning greeted us with warmth and a smile and great vibes. The restaurant was great the atmosphere and outside seating all great ! I recommend the. Jerk bake chicken I was skeptical at first but the entree was full of flavor and packed a sweet punch !
This restaurant never disappoints in terms of flavor seating was a little congested but thats to be expected its in high demand I was disappointed that the outdoor awning was not up or maybe under construction Im not sure so in terms of ambience it lacked one star but excellent customer service the food is always great full of spice of course and its just a nice vibe.
This place has a nice vibe to it. Great music, spacious outdoor seating and the host even bought us bug spray for mosquitos. The host was very friendly and attentive also. We had cod fish fritters(very tasty, crispy and not oily), fish tacos ( also very tasty and perfect amount of seasonings with avacado and their rum punch and margarita were strong and delicious as well. We had a great time there. I will definitely return soon!
Imani is a delicious spot for tasty food and drinks! I got the rum punch and seriously one will have you done. My friend got the salmon and it was cooked to perfection. I got the burger and it was loaded with tons of flavor. Our server Tracy was very sweet and accommodating. We’ll definitely be back !
Ive eaten here twice because the food here is delicious and there is something for everyone (vegans, omnivores, etc.). The cocktails are also decent and strong; I recommend the rum punch. Hence, the 4-star rating (I wish there was a 3.5). We visited last night (Tuesday) with a group of six and things did not go so well. The service was terrible. It started with our drink order. They couldnt seem to get our drink orders straight. It took one of us 40 minutes to get a 2nd beer from the tap after asking 3-4 times. The appetizers were good (try the ackee and salt fish spring rolls). They brought a random side order of callaloo out with the appetizers that one of us ordered as part of the entree. The biggest issue that sent this into a spiral was the entrees. The entrees arrived at the same time with the exception of one entree. It then took 45 minutes for that entree to arrive and the servers seemed confused about how to get this entree ordered. My colleague with the missing entree watched us all eat but seemed satisfied when her order finally arrived 45 minutes later. The server also seemed annoyed with us that she screwed up the order. Timing and attitude is everything sometimes! I spoke to the manager 3 times about various issues (some of which I have not mentioned here). He was apologetic each time but then a new problem would arise. We understand that they are newly opened and are working out the kinks, but the servers in particular need more training and coaching. With that, this place would be a gem. In the interim, I would avoid dinner if your party is larger than a duo.
It literally rained on our parade. Went out with some friends to catch up and enjoy outdoor dining. Couldnt really enjoy the atmosphere since it started to rain so our food was packed to go. Our waitress Brittany was hospitable. I did enjoy my rum punch frozen to go. I dont usually drink but it was good. I ordered the chicken and waffles didnt have an appetite when I got home so I ate it the next day. Everyone knows chicken and waffles are great fresh but let me tell you it was absolutely delicious. My food tased as if it was just made. The chicken is large enough (it comes with two large pieces). I ate one piece of chicken and half of the waffle and was so stuffed. I cant wait to return and be able to enjoy the atmosphere and not have it rain on my parade.
I am writing a complaint review to inform you of how disappointed I am about the terrible service my girlfriend and I received by your colleagues on 9/20/2021 between the times of 9:10p to 9:30p at Imani Restaurant.I am surprised of how your colleagues at such a well-known and respected restaurant dealt with us in a unprofessional and disrespectful manner.Let me first mentioned I have eaten at this establishment before with my family in the past. I was impressed and my experience was great. My girlfriend never been here before which is why I recommended this restaurant for us to dine in. Let me start from the beginning ; after attending a seminar in Brooklyn I called to check if the restaurant was still open and seating guests around 8:50p the young gentleman from the start who answered the phone tone was rude and unprofessional stating yes we are open but our last seating is at 9:15p and we said ok we are on our way. Then he stated the kitchen will be closed by 9:15p,again at this time we started to second guess should we still go because we just told him we would make it before 9:15p , we felt this was a way of him indirectly telling us not to come. Moving forward, we made it around 9:10p and my girlfriend went in while I parked the car , when I finally came in my girlfriend informed me the two young man (a short and tall guy both with facial hair of African American descent) tone was rude again and she was offered a seat at the bar. This was not what we preferred but we said we would just settle for it to not waste any time placing our orders. We sat around for about 10min without being acknowledge, realizing no one was at the bar area to take our orders and after reflecting we felt uneasy about what had taken place and eventually we decided we was not going to spend our money where we felt unwelcome and the service is poor. We both ended up going across the street to Evelina, who said their last seating was at 9:15p but their kitchen close at 9:30p and would be happy to service us. The service and experience at Evelina was immaculate like night and day compare to what we experienced with your colleagues at Imani Restaurant . There wasn’t any attitude or anything but more of a welcome and service was expedited to get our orders in to the kitchen as soon as possible! This is what I expecting for myself and guest to experience at Imani Restaurant as well as anyone who plans to support Imani Restaurant. I doubt myself and guest will be returning anytime soon due to this experience. Im asking you to please discuss this matter with your team members because as a business owner myself these kind of behaviors and experience should be handled as soon as possible because it will negatively affect the reputation and brand of the business. Please contact me to discuss this matter and to outline how you intend to rectify the situation. General manager Danielle K., was emailed as well.Best regards,
Love this place. It was my first time and we ordered Shrimp and Grits, Saltfish and Ackee spring rolls and fish tacos. Omg! So good! I was so impressed with the taste and the variety of the menu, from vegan options to whole fish options Imani’s has a menu to fit everyone’s taste. The customer service was decent, no issues. We sat outside under the canopy and we were immediately given a table. I highly recommend this place.
Terrible Service! Food is Okay. So before I went I called ahead to ask if I needed reservations and I heard through the automated system first come first serve, Ok! I then spoke to the hostesses because I wanted to eat off the dinner menu not the brunch menu so I asked her what time does Dinner menu start she told me, Brunch stop serving at 3:30. So I reach with my family at about 3:45pm, the hostess tells me the kitchen is closed for one hour. Now I wish on the phone the hostesses would have told me this. Okay so we decide to wait the 1 hour. I go back to the front at 4:45 and the hostess tells me again sorry another 15 minutes. I ask can we sit and drink while we wait, he tells me I could only sit at the bar and since I have children with me I cant even do that. Okay so we continue to wait, not even 5 minutes later a couple walks into the place and gets seated before us, not at the bar but at a table. Then after another 5 minutes when we were finally getting ready to just leave a hostess comes out and seats us. After 10 minutes sitting down we were never acknowledged not even for some water (by the way the place was not busy at all, lots of empty tables) the same hostess comes and tells us we only have 90 minutes to sit, now at this point I am furious. Not because of her telling me we only have 90 minutes, but because of her delivery. She could of said this to us while walking to our table, before sitting down or maybe while we waited for an 1hour and 20 minutes. Its all about delivery and her delivery was terrible, shes telling us we only have 90 minutes I havent even seen a waiter gotten any food, and her telling me that just made we want to walk out. I swear if I wasnt with my kids who were hungry and i just made wait for over an hour I would have walked out. So I told her in response well it would be nice if I can get someone to even acknowledge us sitting here and get some water, you trying to put us out in 90 minutes but we havent even seen a waiter, so does that mean the 10 minutes I waited is deducted from the 90 minutes. As I said that she pulled a guy who looked like he just woke up or just started and had absolutely no clue what was going on. Since we had waited so long, at this point we only have 80 minutes left so we decided to order everything one time, drinks appetizers and main course in one shot. First the waiter wasn’t sure about the drinks we wanted a Frozen Red Sangria he said he dont know if they have, then my kids wanted Sprite he said okay and then said sorry we dont have Sprite, again he just didnt seem like he was all the way there. But nevertheless he took our order. My humble opinion the place looked very chaotic, the workers looked like a bunch of people who dont care about the job. No one was pleasant, not even while we were waiting no one was apologetic, no empathy NOTHING!. I honestly felt like I was at a McDonalds getting service from a bunch of teenagers, and even then Id had better service. It look like the workers were all just hanging out, chatting it up by the bar like they were all just catching up on their day week whatever. So now the food comes, to start we got the baked wings, mac and cheese and the spring roll. The Spring rolls were delicious, baked wings were just regular wings and Mac and Cheese nothing special. We had all this without our drinks, just some water. After we finish our drinks came then our food. We got the Oxtail stew and Chicken and Waffles. So the chicken and waffles were simple, nothing to rave about. The Oxtail now the meat was too tough, it was hard for me to eat, I felt like I was chewing for days. Im sorry but I am Trini and I know what good oxtail is and this aint it. I seriously came here due to the raves about the food and I am highly disappointed, I waited because I anticipated some bomb diggity food. So the food was just okay, the Spring Roll delicious even the sauce on the side had a nice kick to it. The Imani Rum Punch was good it was hot but it was good. Overall I wouldnt go back here, to anyone considering this place just beware.
Imani is a nice cozy, quaint Jamaican restaurant here in Brooklyn. The seating arrangement you can tell is very well thought out and the glasses/plates they use make for an old fashioned at home feel. The wait staff are very friendly and keep watch to make sure that they can serve you as fast as possible leaving no worries for the restaurant goer. Not only are these great qualities of great restaurants but the food is an added bonus. They have all of your Jamaican favorites but they are served in a modern/contemporary way. Check it out you wont be disappointed.
The location is such a vibe, can even be romantic enough for a slightly dressy vibe. Food was reallyyyy good. Me and my date had cod fish fritters and Piña Colada, for our main course I had shrimp and grits and he had curry shrimp. I’d definitely come back here. Only problem I had there was a fly that kept buzzing around towards the end of our dinner. The table was slightly small as well, and the bill came up to $100 which I was surprised butoverall 8/10 will come again.
Great food , drinks are not strong. Good service Unfortunately, I asked for a Henny Colada and I was served a Pina Colada with a extra shot of something else . It’s too sweet no taste of rum just sweet Colada mix . Not crowed for a week day afternoon that was nice . The server was very polite . Too many flies outside . The garbage is in the corner not sanitary at all . Should be away from where people are eating just my opinion. I would definitely come again.
We were a party of five without a reservation due to the pandemic and new dining rules. We were given the option to wait until another party was finished dining or we could be seated at separate tables curbside. We opted to eat curbside, and so the servers merged 3 tables to accommodate us.The entire experience was one to make us repeat patrons (Ive already gone a second time). The food, from the appetizers to the entrée was an absolute delight. The drinks were on point! As mentioned before, I have since been back and will go again. The servers are attentive, professional, and friendly. All around, it was a great experience. I highly recommend this spot. You wont regret it!
Augastin.... That was the bartender who served me tonight and he was superb! As soon as I sat down he came over and asked if I wanted water... sure, then when I asked for a Chardonnay and he asked if I wanted to taste it first, wow, sure (and of course I liked it). He was so attentive, friendly, professional, and as a single woman dining alone at the bar, he really made me feel so comfortable and welcome, thank you mi amigo. Oh and the corn soup and callaloo was scrumptious too!. I love this place, the people, the music, the vibe... a real gem.
I would give it a 5 if we had a better waitress . The food on the other hand was EXCELLENT !!! The cod fritters , salt fish & ackee spring roll , & tamarind wings were superb . My friends and I ordered the jerk chicken , curry shrimp , & oxtail . All seasoned to perfection and we each loved the rice and peas !
I picked up takeout from Imani on Saturday and was blown away – this is one of the best restaurants I have been to in a *long* time. The atmosphere was amazing, even with takeout, on a beautiful corner with lots of great patio seating. My husband had the fish tacos (which were incredible in their own right), but the curry chicken bowl stole the show. It was so tender and flavorful, with an amazing curry/Caribbean fusion taste. I want to try more of their menu based on these two items, but I honestly think Id have a hard time not getting the curry chicken bowl every single time. Highly recommend!!
I really wanted to try this place after seeing a review on TikTok. The food is just okay. I didnt like it too much but I also cannot say its horrible. I ordered the codfish fritters and the oxtail plate. It was just eh. I really wanted to love this spot. Not sure if I will give it another try one of these days. 😕
Great service, nice hosts, nice drinks, nice ambiance and music. We ordered the curry chicken bowl as an appetizer which was good. We both ordered chicken and waffles. The waffles were 10x better than the chicken. The presentation of the chicken was nice but it was WAY too salty, the seasoning was off for something so simple as fried chicken and waffles. Literally ate the waffles and took one bite out of the chicken and told the server she could throw it out. On the fence about whether I’d come back or not. Please do a recall on your fried chicken!!!
Second time coming to Imani and I freaking love it here. Service is always exceptional, from the hostess to the bartender to the server, always amazing. We had Gerald as our server today and he was such a joy! I came with my taser (as always duhh) and simply zapped it to scare my friends but both the bartender and our server was there to experience it and was so fun and jovial about it all. Love this place, love the vibe, loved our service. Will be back with the family for sure
As a vegetarian, it has been a long time since I have enjoyed good flavorful food at a restaurant. My options are normally limited. To my surprise I saw a vegan curry dish that caught my eye. That dish so yummy and flavorful. I had enough for leftovers and it was even better the next day. Thank you Imani for creating a delicious vegan option!! And the staff was friendly and prompt.
The service was great. The food was even better. The Cassava Fries were bomb, the Ackee & Salt Fish Spring Roll was really good, it’s served along with a pepper sauce which was very flavorful. I wouldn’t order the Baked Jerk Wings again though, they need more jerk flavor. The Shrimp & Grits was really good with a little added salt & pepper. I also added some of the pepper sauce. The Jerk Bacon was also EVERYTHING!! Definitely will be back.
I can’t wait to come back again because I enjoyed dining here with friends. The food was so delicious. My favorite appetizer were the baked wings and corn on the cob although the corn should’ve been hot on arrival. They have happy hour all day according to the bartender. My entire party enjoyed their meal and the great service provided.
This restaurant is awesome! The food and drinks were GREAT.. everything we ordered taste delicious! I came here with my family for brunch and we throughly enjoyed ourselves. Very friendly and attentive staff, especially our waitress Brittany! I will definitely go back again
“Scan the menu with your phone”“Do you know what you’re having”This was my greeting from two different waiters On two different occasion in the same week. I dined here several times in the past and overlooked the service because i enjoyed the food. However, not sure of my return due to staff/ waiter lack of personality and overly dull presence. One of the sole reasons for dining out is for a catered experience. Not sure of my return or further recommendation.Additionally, an automatic gratuity was charged.Where is the service????Does the “ Pan di beach Rundown” really comes with HALF of a lobster tail? Or was this an honest mistake?
I’ve been to Imani’s like 9 times lol definitely too 3 favorite restaurants in Brooklyn! Every meal I’ve had has been 10/10. The hospitality is so amazing! The waiters, bus boys and hosts are all so sweet. Truly one of my favorite places and I bring all my out of state friends here when I need to show Brooklyn off haha. You won’t regret it!
Went to Imani BK yesterday. The place is so cute. My friend and I sat at bar and the bartender was an absolute sweetheart! I was a torn about what to order and she was very helpful and honest with her opinion( I appreciate when restaurants tell me the truth and doesn’t try to get me to order the most expensive thing). They didn’t have one item we ordered but the manager came over and was very apologetic about it. The vibes were super chilled. Music was great ( they play Caribbean music). Will definitely come back.We ordered : the fish tacos (my favorite), chicken wings, curry chicken bowl ( really good) and chicken and waffles.Rum punch (if you like your drinks strong)Coconut rum punch ( if you like it sweet)
I have been wanting to come here since they opened. My husband made reservations to celebrate my birthday and Im glad he did. I ordered the Upstream Scottie and he ordered the Tiger Shrimp and grits. Both were delicious! Our favorite drink was the La Senorita. Not too sweet, just how we like it. Will definitely come again!

2022-06-16This is A Good Restaurant. It only got 4 stars because I can’t Give a half Start for the curry chicken. The chicken had way too much coconut milk. It had more coconut milk than the curry. The chicken and waffle were flavorful and the chicken was very moist. The oxtail were tender and moist. This restaurant is a clean 4.5 and the service is great!!!!

2022-02-25This place is ok. It does have history being a staple in Brooklyn. They require mask upon entry. They didn’t ask me to show proof of vaccination.I came here just for a quick lunch & wasn’t 100% happy. But my dining experience was good. They were limited with tea options. And their tea bags are not the best quality. Plus my Jerk Chicken Over my greens was a bit salty.I didn’t like how the table has visible scuff marks on many. My waiter was occupied at the bar. I had to call other staff to call him many times. Sorry to be a stickler but I wouldn’t come back :(Otherwise the food was good.

2022-04-18I’ve wanted to stop by this location for quite some time and decided to right after eating lunch at another restaurant. We stopped by around 2:30pm. I was only able to have an appetizer and drink since I ate 30 minutes prior to my arrival. I was pretty full already. We were seated upstairs upon our arrival. We ordered the Shrimp and Grits, Codfish Fritters, Frozen Rum Punch and Coconut Rum Punch. Everything was amazing. The drinks were perfect! I expected to taste more codfish than breading for the fritters but they were pretty good nonetheless.I’ll definitely be back for dinner this summer! Our server was great as well!

2022-05-17Bittersweet review- This was the message I left them on Instagram. I received no response so I’m leaving it as my review“I am writing to tell you what a wonderful time I had at your restaurant today ! The food was amazing and so was the atmosphere. I was looking through your profile and saw the above post that soured my opinion of your place.I was at your restaurant at this same time this group was present. In the caption it mentions the 2 for 1 mimosa deal. When I was at my table and asked for that deal which was advertised on your menu we were told “we are not offering that today”.It is truly disappointing to see it being offered to another group of people and not to our group.”

2021-11-07I came here with a friend for dinner and drinks this past summer. We were able to be seated right away at 6p on a Wednesday, but the restaurant was definitely already getting full. The cocktails were great, as was the service and the food. I dont eat meat so i was a little worried but they had a delicious veg curry dish on the menu that was very good, spicy, and a generous portion. Id definitely come back!

2021-09-22This is such a nice chill spot with good food. I wished their brunch menu had better selection for the Caribbean aspect, too many American breakfast items on brunch menu and this is a Caribbean restaurant. I’d definitely go back, but for dinner, I think that might be where it’s at😋.The drinks are good, try the spiked lemonade 🤩… and the codfish fritters are really nice 👍🏾The fruit cake got many compliments days later. Will go back, stay tuned for updates 😉
